Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius: The Dark Feminine Refuses to Look Back

In this episode of Heavenly Bodies, I’m diving into one of my favorite archetypes in astrology: Lilith — the original dark feminine, the exile, the truth‑teller who refused to bow.

I start with the myth. Lilith as Adam’s first wife. The woman who refused hierarchy. The one who walked out of Eden rather than submit. Exiled, demonized, blamed for everything taboo — from sexuality to miscarriages — she became the ultimate symbol of the punished, silenced, inconvenient truth.

But Lilith isn’t just empowerment. She’s not cute. She’s not polished. She’s the complicated, messy reclamation of the shadow inside all of us.

I talk about how Black Moon Lilith works in astrology, how she changes expression through the zodiac signs and birth chart houses, and what it really means to “integrate” Lilith instead of projecting her.

We reflect on Lilith in Scorpio — themes of violation, power, obsession, sexuality, and my own Lilith return reckoning with people‑pleasing and desire.

And then we move forward.

On December 21, 2025, Lilith enters Sagittarius, where she’ll stay until September 15, 2026. This is fire. This is motion. This is freedom. This is refusing to look back.

Hello, Star Child. You've tuned into Heavenly Bodies, a trip through the Cosmos with David Odyssey. I'm David Odyssey, your personal astrologer and guide, cruising through the stars and down to Earth. Each week, we'll seek life's meaning in archetypes, old and new. And now, let's drop in. Welcome, Star Children and Sex Symbols. It is I, David Odyssey. There's a lot to discuss. We are talking about a favorite topic of mine, something that I love, love, love to bring up when I'm giving people astrology readings. I'd love to write a book about her. And it's sort of this archetype, this presence that I see everywhere. I see in culture, I see in art, and I see in my clients and I see in myself. She's been quite present. We're in, I'm about to explain to you like what Lilith is. You are listening to the Lilith in Sagittarius episode. You do not need to have Lilith in Sagittarius. You do not need to know what Lilith andor Sagittarius is. I'm going to break everything down for you, and she will be universally accessible and new user-friendly, mark my goddamn words. This archetype is obviously like we're in kind of a post-alphabet society. So Lilith is who we are going to be discussing. Lilith is a character outside of biblical apocryphal mythology. She is a sort of mythological folk character in a lot of different cultures. And Lilith is an astrological entity, all of which has um a fabulous application in your life. So to begin, let's meet the Dark Lady. Lilith is kind of most famously or most popularly known as the first woman and Adam's first wife in the Garden of Eden. Because there were two versions of the creation story made, one in which man and woman both were made from the earth at the same time, and one in which woman was made out of man's rib, which that one kind of took off. Anyways, before, while there's there was this sort of reconciliation between the edits, the myth basically is that the first woman, Lilith, is Adam's equal. And suddenly, when it is decided that, you know, hey girl, listen, we love what you're doing. Just so you know, there's actually a hierarchy. It's Adam, woman, and then the animals. Before then, it had been man, woman, animals all together. There was no idea of some allotment of power. When that happened, Lilith, the first woman, said, I'm not doing this. Like, I'm not below you. I'm your equal. And she not only challenged Adam, but she defied God. She spoke God's name and challenged him and said, You know, this isn't happening. For that, Lilith was exiled from Eden and a new woman, Eve, who was supposed to be the kind of like Stepford model, huh? Was created. You know, of course, with Eve, Eve still finds the tree, eats the apple, and kind of uncovers consciousness. So it's not to say that like the next woman uh was just going to be so boring and simple and amenable. But Eve has more of an awakening. Lilith is like, I'm already there, girl. I know the tea, I know, I know what's going on. You don't really need to like, there is no more lying. There is no, there is no wool over my eyes, there is no gaslighting to be done. I'm not having it. When Lilith is banished, she becomes this sort of desert she demoness. And the important thing here is that she isn't destroyed. Most movies with the femme fatale, they kill her at the end. Lilith becomes this enduring symbol of exile. Where Lilith really came in, and this is where like you, you know, I could spend hours, in Egyptian, Hittite, Sumerian, Israelite mythologies and folklore and superstition, they needed a figure to be the sort of repository for fucked up abject shit we can't talk about. So when men who were married were having ejaculation in the middle of the night, when they're having wet dreams, the town elders or the priests or the or the spiritual leader would say, It's Lilith, the she demoness. By the way, the name Lilith comes from Lilim, which are like night spirit or wind spirit, that's the meaning of the word. They would say, Lilith has come to take your semen so she can breed an army of demon babies out of wedlock. Iconic. When a woman would have a miscarriage, it's originally claimed that Lilith wanted to take all the babies, and only households that had these sort of protective amulets around them were spared by her. But if a miscarriage happened anyway, it's because Lilith was granted by God, you know, she still gets like 19 babies a day or something. Okay. Then, and this is in The Book of Lilith by Barbara Black Kultov. But by the way, she's one of the translations they give, or one of the names she had was, quote, Wanton Night Hag, who, and I swear this is straight out of the book, quote, haunted Wells and Latrines. You know, when I read the Wells and Latrines thing, I was like, anytime you have been cruising in a public restroom, you know, I'm speaking perhaps more to uh the gay men listening, there is a goddess for that. There is uh, she really is the idea of cruising, which is sort of sex in these shadow realms or in these unseen places. And yes, I am talking about the basement bathroom of Essex Market in the Lower East Side, uh, Lilith is there. And James Joyce even refers to her as the patron of abortions. So it's amazing because within this idea of Eve, you know, the biblical first perfect woman, she has a shadow. And that shadow can be this amazing vast bastion who can contain all the dark sides of femininity, of sexuality, of womanhood, of biology. When you're thinking about abortions, miscarriages, basically coming orgasms, all of these things that can be taboo or unspoken of. Like, there's a girly for that, and her name is Lilith. You know, for Lilith, I would just core Lilith before we even specify what form she's about to take for all of us. I'm like, gotta watch Fiddler on the Roof for Masera. Hello. Ursula, Little Mermaid, Medea, Greek mythology. If you read X-Men comics, it's Madeline Pryor. You know, that wronged woman who kind of like, thank God she's been wronged because now she's really taking her final form, and who even cares about like the pretty little princess, Maleficent has it. Actually, Maleficent's great. Angelina Jolie generally, I think can really do the Lilith thing very well. So when we're getting into Lilith, generally speaking, before we even get into the specifics and like what this means in astrology and what this means for you, like oh, I mean, obviously the number one Lilith movie to watch is Black Swan, the number one Lilith album to listen to is Jagged Little Pill, right? Within each of us, I mean, I think Lilith has a really powerful application for women for the feminine, but I think Lilith really works for everyone because within everyone is the masculine feminine and is the dark feminine. Within everyone also, and this is where these are some of the key Lilithisms. If you have been exiled, if you have been silenced, if you have been punished for speaking the truth, that is what is getting kind of reclaimed or re-owned. And there's this aspect of Lilith that is the cackling witch who's kind of like, you didn't get me. You know what I mean? Like, you didn't kill me last time, and you're not gonna kill me this time. And now I want revenge. Lilith has this revenge aspect that's really delicious, but it's not all right. I want to say this. I'm gonna get in trouble for saying this. Lilith is not a yes we can sort of girl power thing, it's a much more complicated, ugly reclamation. You know, it's not a Ruth Bader-Ginsburg poster. I think I celebrate, I pop off, like hail to the Jewess. Lilith is a different aspect. Lilith is the dark side. Lilith is the side of you that is ugly and has been made ugly. And what does that ugliness mean? And why do we have that ugliness? Okay. So Lilith is not supposed to be like beautiful or unifying. Um, I think it's ultimately unifying because it's about breaking out of the surveillance state and kind of like the rejects claiming their power. But it is not like I discovered my Lilith, and now I feel amazing about myself. It's Black Swan, which is I have been this good girl, and now I'm facing my inner, my inner Mila Kunis, and now I'm bringing them into a reconciliation. You don't really want Mila Kunis to be punished, and you don't want Natalie Portman to keep being repressed. You want them to unify, and you know, I mean it's kind of fabulous how the movie ends, but they need to have sex. So what I'm just saying is like we kind of need to walk away from like moralism here, and we need to really look at those core experiences which have shaped us one way or the other. I think this is a big thing when we're looking at the Dark Femme archetype, okay? So Lilith takes on a different incarnation with every sign she enters. The signs of astrology are basically collections of elements or aspects or attributes. Together they form a unified whole, which is to say every one of us has a chart, and within each of us are the 12 signs. The 12 signs represent it's kind of parts of a whole, right? So each sign represents kind of a different ladder on the rung of spiritual evolution, a different place we are in life. And in astrology, we also have the 12 houses. So those houses are kind of lenses into where we are or that part of our life. So Lilith, as she enters each different sign, is going to embody different aspects of what's going on in the world, what that is bringing out of us, and how we're responding to it. Okay. We also have in the underworld Hecate, goddess of crossroads, goddess of liminal spaces. Uh, Persephone, we know, is abducted and raped by Pluto. She then takes on this dual form. Again, we're seeing Lilith. Persephone is the daughter of Demeter, uh, the goddess of the harvest. She's kind of a spring maiden. When she's taken into the underworld, she becomes kind of the dark queen. And then a deal is struck in which Persephone spends six months above and six months below. So Persephone is the spring and summer, and when she descends into the underworld, we get fall and winter. We get the duality. We get death and rebirth, we get shadow and light, etc. I think Lilith and Scorpio was very present in the sort of sobering, harrowing realization that one's body is like fully under attack. And, you know, for women or for trans people especially, like, oh, all of this can just be ripped away. You don't have power, you can either be exiled or controlled. I think the idea of the truth teller or the kind of sobered harrowed uh Lady Macbeth who's kind of very aware of everything, she really is coming up in the Lilith and Scorpio thing. I was born with Lilith and Scorpio, which means I and my cohort had what is called a Lilith return. It means Lilith is back where she was when you were born. For me, like my Lilith and Scorpio has always played out in what I think of as a really complicated sexual identity. You know, I've had experiences with sexual abuse and sexual assault, which have led me on my own experiences of either reclamation in these sort of like hypersexual Dynesian dance floor dungeon arenas to reenactment of abuse in these arenas and to this sort of like ongoing reckoning in which my body, you know, as you know, I was a go-go boy, and there's this aspect of like I have to put it all out, even though there are aspects that are deeply hidden. I'm just talking about again, we can't really be moralistic here. When we're thinking about what we've been through in terms of our sexuality, in terms of power dynamics, in terms of abuse, in terms of conditioning, and observing how that gets expressed, how it gets played out, how we reenact it, how we heal it. A big part of the way that I've been in the world has been a people pleaser and being someone who smiles a lot and blah, blah, blah, kind of always putting on the show. And when I had my Lilith return, which I would say was like the second part of 2025, I really started to observe those behaviors, and I started to really not necessarily with judgment, not with judgment, but just observance, be like, oh, this is who I've been giving my power to. This is how I kind of want to make everyone happy. And I had this night, I went out in November, and I saw it was crazy. I saw this like rogues gallery of everyone I've slept with in the last three years. Everyone I've made out with, everyone I've slept with, everyone I've kind of like some some of those experiences were positive, some not so great, some kind of like, what the fuck was that? But I had this Lilith aspect being like, look at what we've done, look at all the power we've given away. Them, them, like you know, and I I had this moment of being like, oh, uh, in all those times there was a pedestal thing going on, there was a projection going on. What does it mean for me to take it all back and really own it? And when I say own it, I don't just mean like you go girl. I mean own the shame, own the projection, own the performance, own all of that. So there was that aspect. I saw Bugonia, which is the new Emma Stone movie by Yorgos Lanthimos. They had she had previously done, I mean, any movie she does with him is Lilith, she did The Favorite with Rachel Weiss, and she also did Poor Things. Those movies, for some reason, Emma Stone, who's my age, and I gotta say, like, you know, millennials have taken a lot of shit over the last seven years because we are such losers. But seeing Emma Stone, I'm like, alright, there's a way, there's a way forward for us. Those movies, the favorite poor things in Bugonia, I do think give us a pretty strong Lilith, which they are about these women in positions of power, either going up or down. And in Bugonia, she plays this real I mean, she's just kind of this unforgivable bitch in Bugonia. In Bugonia, she's kind of playing, she's playing a pharmaceutical executive who will not seek any form of redemption or atonement, no matter what crime she has committed. And there is this sort of triumph to it because it, again, it's so abject thinking about like a corporatist woman, but I think there's a really beautiful flip to it, which is like if we think about power dynamics, what if we show a woman as the perpetrator and as the monster? And I think Emma Stone did such a good job in that because she's so you're kind of rooting for her where you're like, she is just not going to say sorry or relent. I think that again, we're thinking with Lilith about the shadow and the mirror. So when we think about these periods where women are losing rights, there's something about seeing that flip side, which is the okay, what does power look like and why? And what is this world we live in? I warned my producers. We are gonna be talking about Anna Hathaway a lot on this podcast. I'm obsessed with her. I'm obsessed with she has three Liliths. She has Devil Wars Prada too. She's in the Odyssey as Penelope, which is a gag. And she has what looks to me like a very Lilith movie, Mother Mary with her and Michaela Cole, which is like this kind of dark pop witchcraft movie. Whatever, I'm gagged. Okay. Anna Hathaway is a Scorpio. Uh, she's kind of to any Scorpio woman, by the way, Kathy Griffin, Roseanne Barr, Hillary Clinton. There's always that aspect of we loved her, then we hated her. Anna Hathaway, we loved her, then we hated her, and now she's back. You know, when Anna Hathaway really was back and she was basically showed up and head-to-toe Armani and was like, you all tried to cancel me because you thought I was unlikable, and now I'm back and you can't kill me. That is the Lilith and Scorpio. Margot Robbie, my age also is Lilith and Scorpio. We have Wuthering Heights with her and Jacob Bellordi. Listen, I'm more of a Charlotte Bronte fan than an Emily Bronte fan. Wuthering Heights, I was it's tough, but Wuthering Heights is also so much about destruction and what does sex and love do that can fucking destroy us. Okay, so that's all been very present. All that is the overture for Lilith entering Sagittarius. Lilith has of the time of this podcast being released, Lilith is in Sag. She entered December 21st, 2025. She will be there through September 15th, 2026. So that's a large clumpy of 2026. When Lilith enters Sag, she takes on a new incarnation. What is Sagittarius? So, like I said, Scorpio deals a lot with the like the violation, the awakening, the underworld, truth and lies, abuse of power. Sagittarius is kind of what comes next. Scorpio is so much about you, you destroyed me and I've been resurrected. Sagittarius is then like, okay, now I'm immortal. What do I want to do? Sagittarius is really about, all right, we've had the reckoning. Let's look forward. Sagittarius has some of the best divas you're ever gonna get. Brittany Spears, Christina Aguilera, Tina Turner, Miley Cyrus, Bet Midler. We get Lucy Liu. I mean, come on, motherfucker, right? So those Sag women, they're gonna pound it. There is this aspect of I want to break a brick wall down and go where no one has gone before. That's Sagittarius generally, it's the it's the centaur firing an arrow. It's very much where do we want to go next? And for women, I think Sag is so it has this bon vivant quality to it, which is I'm out there, I'm brave, I'm curious. Um, I either want to like fucking slam it, you know, if you think about Brittany or Christina or Miley, or I want to explore things that haven't been explored. The thing with Sag, and this is gonna be a big one, Sag, I don't think Scorpio is so much about we're looking back, we're dealing, these are the recriminations. Sag is like, I don't want to look back, you know? Uh this was a big thing with Tina Turner, which was after What's Love Got to Do with it, as she continued to make music and be like the highest grossing, you know, during during Tina, by the way, during Tina Turner's second Saturn return, which you can read about in my book, When Saturn Returns, hello. During Tina Turner's second Saturn return, which is her mid-50s, she was the highest grossing touring artist. Okay, like suck on that. So Tina Turner, who after What's Love Got to Do with It, after her backstory, you know, for those who don't know about this, Tina Turner had been abused by her husband and musical partner Ike Turner, and they split up, she went solo and became the superstar in this real Sagittarian like record breaker for black women and for women in general in music and rock and roll. When the movie, after the movie with about her life and that relationship with Angela Bassett, What's Love Got to Do with It was made in the early 90s. Tina Turner was kind of like, I don't want to talk about this anymore. And as she kept making music and kept touring, every time she'd have to do press, she'd get these interviews where these idiot journalists would want to just ask these kind of probing questions about her abuse history. And Tina Turner was like, I'm wanting to be the first black woman rock star in the world. I don't want to talk about this shit. I don't want to keep having to go back and back and back. All right. So I'm bringing all of this up because if you think about the Lilith story, Lilith in Scorpio is the heartbreak and the catastrophe of leaving Eden. Lilith in Scorpio is the realization that husband, parent, god, authority is betraying you, has betrayed you, that the system was rigged against you, that you're fucked. Lilith in Sagittarius is what happens when she says, you know what? I'm going into the wilderness and I'm not looking back. If you send angels to bring me back, I'm not I'm not looking back. I'm going forward. I'm gonna make an amazing career for myself as the she demoness. So Lilith in Sag just generally, and I think this is a big thing for obvious reasons for 2026. I think a lot of the shock of this election cycle is now wearing down. And a lot of the shock of the world we live in and the cruelty of it is now present reality. As Lilith enters Sag, she's a bit, she, that side in all of us, and I think that cultural feminine is a bit more infighting shape. Sag is a fire sign, and there is this aspect of like, I don't even want to go back to Eden. I don't want to go back to the way things were. We have to find something new. So that's not to say, like, be optimistic. You're having your like, be optimistic, women and trans people, you're having your right stick and way. It's not that, but it is this saying of like, all right, we have grieved and now we are going to create something new and we're going to incarnate as something new. So I wanted to bring up a few of my like my girly archetypes. Jennifer Connolly, Sagittarius woman, let me just say this. I've said this before and I'll say it again. There are three people I will take a bullet for: my rabbi, my Zumba teacher, and Jennifer Connelly. Let the record show. Jennifer Connolly, who is just like, I mean, not even to talk about little children, but I just even in fucking Top Gun, you're just watching and you're like, they just can't crack, like, they cannot crack you. You are, she's the perfect woman. She's the perfect everything. When we're thinking about the Sagittarian assignment for Lilith. I obviously have to bring up major Catwoman, Zoe Kravitz. Zoe Kravitz is a very important Sagittarian. You know, her, I loved the new Batman movie in which it's her and the Taurus Robert Pattinson. I'm obsessed with that Catwoman as the as Catwoman is the archetype. You're never gonna the idea, Catwoman never gets punished, she never goes to jail, she never learns a lesson. That's the Lilith thing. The other one that I would of course bring up um Tiana Taylor is a Sagittarius. I have always loved her. Um I've loved her since I know she has sworn away work this pussy, but you get it. If you've seen the movie One Battle After Another, Her character is unbelievable. I mean, first of all, she is so mesmerizing, she's so beautiful, she's so striking. And the character is literally a terrorist. She plays this sort of outlaw, and she's a real freedom fighter. She takes on this sort of cowboy role of like, I'm never giving up my mission, and I don't care what that means. And it's a really interesting portrayal of a mother because she's ambiguous, she's dangerous. We don't really know what to do with her by the end of the movie, but she is kind of a hard-ass motherfucker. And they show these scenes of her, you know, blowing up banks and holding Sean Penn at gunpoint. And you're like, wow, this is a sort of sexuality and reclaiming of power that isn't quote unquote good. And it might not all be for the good. And she might not be a good wife or mother or daughter. It's not really about that. It's about like this side of you that's like, this is who I've always been, this is what I've always wanted to do. This is what's held me back. We now know what's held me back, what's holding me back. We know that the society is not gonna change. We know that, you know, your family, your relationship, whatever those dynamics are, where we get the score. So it's like, all right, let's just fucking, let's just fucking go. So I think generally speaking, when we're looking at like the world at large, but also like where any of us is in it, I think Lilith and Saj really represents, and I think these are the questions we kind of need to ask ourselves. Like it's not even what is your dark side, it is what are the things you've been afraid to do and who would they have pissed off? What are the things that you weren't supposed to do because dot dot, and why was that bullshit? And with that, you get this sort of like again, Catwoman Dark Avenger. So I would definitely, with style and with the sort of invocation, we're really thinking Lilith and Sag is a little bit more adventurous, curious. She doesn't really care about being judged. So this isn't quite as much like this is my dark side, I'm gonna be a goth now. It's not quite that. It's a little bit more like I'm wearing this, I dare you to fuck with me. You know what I mean? And I think in terms of the role you're wanting to take in your personal life or politically or culturally, whatever, Lilith in Sag is so much about if we were to look forward at what needs to be done or where we want to go, if we were to consider the rules no longer applying, who does she look like? What does that look like? What form does she take? And what does she need to do or say? I would of course recommend, you know, if you get a reading with me, or if you look at your own chart, where is Sagittarius in your chart? What who is Lilith interacting with? Is Lilith hitting a planet? Is she turning it on? What part of your chart is having an awakening or an unleashing? So those are all some Lilith isms.
