Make Room for Jesus | Palm Sunday Sermon | Pastor Ty Hayes
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this powerful Palm Sunday message, Pastor Ty Hayes challenges us to prepare our hearts for the true King. As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowd expected a political savior—but He came to bring spiritual transformation. This sermon unpacks the tension between expectation and reality, calling us to move beyond comfort, control, and complacency to fully surrender to Jesus.
Through the story of the triumphal entry, we’re reminded that making room for Jesus means allowing Him to disrupt our plans, cleanse what doesn’t belong, and take His rightful place in our lives. This message is a call to examine what’s crowding Him out and to intentionally create space for His presence, His will, and His power.
If you’ve ever struggled with letting go, trusting God’s plan, or fully surrendering your life to Jesus, this message will challenge and encourage you.
Hey, if you have your Bibles, we're going to be in Matthew chapter 21. So I'll give you some chance to get there. But while you're getting there, I just want to highlight uh the connection card one more time and remind you of a simple reality. If you are a salesman or part of any pyramid scheme, I mean you'll have Pastor Kyle's number tomorrow. Do with that what you will. I don't know. Sign him up for all the things. Uh have fun with it. But make sure you fill out that connection card. It's going to be helpful to you, powerful. But with that said, Matthew chapter 21, we're going to read verses eight through nine. Today we're celebrating a holiday. Uh, for those of you that have been in the church world for a while, you'll recognize this. For those of you that aren't, that's okay. Uh, we we're celebrating a Sunday called Palm Sunday. This is the week before Easter, and Palm Sunday is when Jesus triumphantly goes into Jerusalem. And there's, man, I'm just dropping things. I'm so excited. Uh, there's people celebrating and throwing things and being excited and all that good stuff. And uh it's just interesting to me. You know, most religions, their God is never willing to come down to humanity. Most religions, you've got to get better to reach your their God. You've got to get better to hear from their prophet. And Jesus is the only God that humbled himself, became a human, came down, rode a donkey rather than a horse, came into the city, was celebrated as a conquering king, but did things vastly different. Man, I don't know if you understand what Jesus went through for you and for me. And this morning, we're I want to prep our hearts for this Good Friday coming up in Easter because, man, we're celebrating Jesus coming as king, coming as conqueror, how powerful he is. But we're also celebrating the fact that he would humble himself, that he would sacrifice his life for us, and that ultimately he would raise from the dead, be a God that is active, hears our prayers, hears our cries. And man, he is sitting at the right hand of the Father even now, listening to your prayers. And so this morning, when we talk about Jesus in this Bible, and this isn't a minus, I just want you to know this. We're not talking about a guy that, you know, just lived a couple thousand years ago that has good stories of good morals. We're talking about a God that can change your life today. Amen. That was quiet. Amen. Come on. All right, verse eight. We're gonna read verses eight and nine. Matthew 21, starting in verse eight, it says, Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of them, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Jesus was in the center of this procession, and the people all around him were shouting, Praise God for the Son of David. Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Praise God in the highest heaven. Let's pray. God, right now, I thank you for who you are. I pray as we dive into your word, that each and every one of us would just take a step towards you. That God, if we have known you our whole life, God, that we know that you have more for us. God, if we followed you for a while, that we would just trudge into deeper waters of faith. And God, if we don't know you yet, today would be that day that we make that decision. God, be with us this morning. God, make it all about you. We love you. We thank you. Name I pray. Amen. Now I just have a quick poll for you guys. How many of you guys uh are hoarders of things? Maybe you have closets full of stuff, you have a house and rooms full of stuff, you have like, you know, storage in your house. You might even have a storage facility somewhere else. How many of you guys love your stuff? You have a lot of stuff. I love you guys. You guys are gross. I just think it's weird. Uh, my wife makes fun of me a lot because she's like, you like take pride in how little things you own. Case you haven't noticed, I now own four outfits because I got a new shirt for this day. But I I only own one pair of pants. I only own like three or four shirts, and I won't tell you about underwear or socks because that's between me and the Lord. But uh man, I I can fit most things that I own in one backpack. Like, I like having not a lot of stuff. I'm like just being able to grab my stuff and go. My wife and her family, on the other hand, are a little different. Like they love their stuff. They like keeping their stuff, never getting ready of the stuff. You know, my my father-in-law, I love them to death. His coffee maker went bad. He got a new coffee maker, but still kept the old one that was broken because you never know you might need it someday. And I was like, what is happening? And man, I get a little nervous because my daughter's picked up on this kind of uh mentality. So my daughter's got a room full of stuff, more stuff like you can't even walk on the floor without stepping on anything. And my in-laws are coming next week for Easter and they're excited. And every time they come, I kind of like twinge a little bit because they always bring us stuff. And I love them. They always like to bless us. So, like, hey, we brought you this and we brought you that. And I just told my wife, I was like, I prefer not to know. Let me just be surprised in the moment. But um, they always are so great at giving my daughter Thea more stuff, buying her more toys. And every time it goes like clockwork, I feel like I'm negotiating with the terrorists, and I'll go to my daughter and she's four, and I'll look at her and say, Hey, since you got these three new toys, maybe we can get rid of three old toys. And she looks at the toys and looks at the old ones and the new ones, and then looks at me and says, No, Dad, I think I'm okay. I want both. And I'm just like, of course, of course, man. It gets so crowded sometimes that I feel like there's no more room for anything else. Now, why do I tell you that story? Because many of us, we live our lives spiritually the same way. We love Jesus, we want more of Jesus, but we don't actually make room in our life to experience more of Jesus. That our life is so cluttered and so filled that we don't have room in our life for Jesus. In fact, if you are taking notes, I only have one point for you today, and that's this. We need to make room for the king. We need to make room for Jesus. And if you're not a note-taker, I'd encourage you to become one because we forget things and it helps us focus. So grab out your phone, grab out a paper and pen if you're old school, like Pastor Bambi, but do your thing. And Bambi, I did it again. Can you come on up to the stage real quick? Can we hear for Pastor Bambi as she walks up? So maybe some of you haven't gotten to know Pastor Bambi very well. She's been gone for about six months or so. I shouldn't say gone, but she's been at our Fort Hall campus. And the Bible says to give honor where honor is due. And you know, it's easy because I get to preach most of the time to kind of think that I, you know, I'm so great and everyone else is so ho-hum. And Bambi's kind of one of the unsung heroes of our church. Six months ago, we were in a spot where, man, I just to be brutally honest, hopefully from no one from Fort Hall is watching, because I don't want to hurt their feelings, but we were in a difficult spot, and I was like, man, maybe we close down our Fort Hall campus. I'm not really sure what to do. Like things are hard, it's difficult. And in that moment, we were like, we felt like God was calling us to locate a campus pastor. And Pastor Bambi said, in the season, while we're looking, I'll step up and I'll be the interim campus pastor. So not only has she had this heart of man, I just want people to know Jesus, but while she's been the campus pastor there, the attendance has more than tripled. Giving has more than quadrupled. More people are serving than ever before, and more people are being reached for Jesus everything before. In fact, they're talking to us about going to two services over there. So can we hear it for Pastor Bambi? And so uh they she actually told me this last week. She's making fun of us because so far no one in American Falls has signed up for baptism. But in Fort Hall, they have nine people sign up to get baptized. Like, let's go. And so, Pastor Bambi, we just love you. We appreciate you. If you have not gotten a chance to get to know her, I'd encourage you. She is a doll, is she not? Dustin, I know you're a big fan, right? Hey, come on. Thank you, Pastor Bambi. We appreciate you. All right, with that said, one note, we need to make more room for Jesus. Let me ask you a question. Do you have room for Jesus in your life? Now I'm gonna give you three ways that you can make more room for Jesus in your life. But before we get to that, I kind of want to break down the context, the history of Palm Sunday in this passage. See, Palm Sunday was kind of like a victory parade. How many of you guys remember going to a parade as a kid? Anybody? Man, I love parades as a kid. Hopefully you enjoy taking your kids to parades. If you're an adult that takes yourself to a parade for you, that's weird. We still love you, but it's weird. But man, I love as a kid. They throw out candy, there's balloons, there's horses, there's all the things. Man, parades are fun. People in this story, as Jesus is coming in, it's kind of like a parade because these people are celebrating, they're waving palm branches, and they're even taking their coats and throwing them in the streets so that he and his donkey can ride over them. Now, this kind of parade, this welcoming into the city of Jerusalem, would be the kind of thing they would do for a conquering hero. It's kind of like if the king went to battle and came back and he's won, they're throwing that kind of parade. And so this is crazy because they're basically hailing Jesus as their king. And they're shouting in the in the in other translations things like Hosanna, which means blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. It also means save us now. So not only are they celebrating, they're excited that Jesus is there, but they are desperate. See, the Jewish people at this time are conquered by the Roman Empire, and they think that the Messiah isn't there to save them spiritually. They think he's there to wipe out Rome and make Israel its own nation with its own king again. And so when they're crying out, Hosanna, they're literally saying, Save us, be our king, help us to uh conquer these people, get them out of here. And they feel like desperately, like they need a savior. Now, here's the tension of this passage. See, they're welcoming Jesus into the city, but they're never really welcoming Jesus to change their life. They're giving what many of us like know commonly today as lip service. You guys ever heard of that term? That they're saying the right things, but they're not really looking to do the right things. They love the idea of Jesus. They want Jesus to work for them, but they're not really looking to follow him. See, Poem Sunday is about more than just a parade. It's about what Jesus did and is actively doing on our behalf. It's about how we celebrate Jesus and what he's done and what we are doing for him. Because let's be honest, it is easy to come into church and we can sing the songs. The songs are good. How many of you guys love singing the songs? Come on, they're good. We can show up to church every week and be excited. We can even get emotional in the service and still not make room for Jesus in our life. So today I want to talk to you about three different ways that you can make room for Jesus. The first one, and it's everyone's favorite word, surrender control. Man, how many of you guys just struggle with that word surrender? Like it's not a popular word. Even control is a hard word. We love control. We like to take control of the situation. You asked Pastor Bambi, man, when we when the staff goes places, I drive. I don't like anyone else to drive. And if someone else tries to drive, I look like my four-year-old daughter. I'm on the floor screaming and crying, like, what is going on? Pastor, or not Pastor, but our worship leader Tony, he's over there and he's like holding on for his dear life while I drive and he's saying, This is scary. And I'm like, it's all good. I'm I got it under control. The Bible says that these people grabbed their uh their coats, their cloaks, and they laid them on the ground. I want you to understand this is more than just laying your coat on the ground to be nice to your date. They are laying down everything that they had on them. And this culture, a cloak was valuable. They didn't have Chinese sweatshops, they couldn't mass produce like this took time, this took money, this is usually their only coat, their only cloak, and they're laying it down. And this represented their security, their identity, their finances, and it made it very personal for them. It made it very valuable to them, and it literally physically cost them something. And they're saying, Jesus, you are worth more than what I own. Jesus, you are worth more than what I have. And they're lowering the thing that covered them, that gave them security, that gave them safety in hopes of lifting up the one that they thought might save them. See, following Jesus always requires us to surrender. It's not just about belief. It's not even just about attending church, it's about surrendering your very life to Jesus. Many of us today, we like to hold on to things. We like to hold on to things like I mentioned earlier, control. We love to make our own decisions. We might hold on to our pride. We don't like to be humbled. We might even have some sin issues in our life that we're like, hey, I know that this is wrong. I know that God asked me to not do it, but it's hard for me to let go. We might even struggle to let go of our own plans. We don't ask Jesus what he wants. We say, Jesus, this is what I'm gonna do. Now, Amanda, could I get a quick favor? Would you bring up a chair and come on up here? Can we hear it for Amanda as she comes up to the front? Did she not do a great job with leading that new song? I found out today that was the first time she's ever led a song before. I thought it was fantastic. And uh the other great part is that we're matching right now. Like, I don't know if you guys noticed. It wasn't even on purpose. Uh, I love it. So, Amanda, this chair represents the throne of your life, represents all control of your life. Now, I need a good example over here. Hmm. Hey, Rick, can I borrow you for a second? Now, my handsome friend Rick is gonna represent Jesus. Let's hear it for Rick. Come on. Looking good, man, looking good. Now, see, Jesus wants the throne of your life. Jesus wants to not just help you out, Jesus wants to be the king and lord of your life. But Jesus is a gentleman, he's not like me. Now, if I if I'm talking to Amanda and I'm like, Amanda, I want you know control of your life, I might be like, get off, move. Like, this is my throne now. And she'll hold offer to your life. She's like, No, no, no, this is mine. Jesus isn't like that. Jesus isn't the kind of God that's gonna push you, he's not gonna force you. He's waiting for you to give up control, give up the rights. And most of us, our issue is that we like to sit on the chair of our own life because this chair represents our decisions, it represents our direction, it represents our very future. And man, most of us, we love Jesus being around. Jesus is a good guy. He answers our prayers, he loves us, he does great things. We're like, man, we love Jesus being around. Jesus, I'm comfortable with you right here, but we are reluctant to ever give up control of the throne of our life. Can we hear for these two? Come on, I appreciate them. They're awesome. See, Jesus doesn't want to just be around you. Jesus wants to be the king of your life, the Lord of your life. And if we if we want Jesus to be that, then we've got to get up because Jesus can't sit on a throne of a life that is already occupied. See, we'll we'll we'll say things like, Jesus, bless my plans, Jesus help my decisions, Jesus fix the things that I broke. But we never actually step out of the seat to give him control of our life. We never actually submit ourselves to what Jesus might ask us to do. And can I tell you, you can't crown Jesus king if you're trying to run the kingdom yourself. Surrender is never partial. It's never just, hey Jesus, this is the things I'm willing to give up. It's never seasonal. It's never, hey Jesus, how long do you need to be in charge? And it's never, ever convenient. Jesus will always ask for things that feel like it's too much, like you're asking at the worst time. And only in those moments where it is hard, it is sacrificial, it is challenging, it feels like it costs us the most, do we really know whether we've actually followed Jesus or not? See, Jesus isn't looking just to have our Sundays. He's looking for total surrender. He's looking to be your king every day of the week, not just one hour a Sunday, not just whenever it's convenient, not just when you're going through a hard time. He's looking for you to ultimately give him your yes to say, wherever you want to go, Jesus, I'm with you. Whatever you want, Jesus, I'll give you. So you can't make room for Jesus if your hands are full of something else. And many of us, we struggle letting go of control. We struggle letting go of relationships we know aren't right. We struggle letting go of forgiveness. Come on, how many guys know we struggle with forgiveness? Jesus says, pray for your enemies. He even says, bless your enemies. That's hard. That's hard. Jesus tells us to give up habits that we don't want to surrender. He tells us to give up our very own plans and follow his. And man, many of us, we want Jesus to come into our house. We want him to be around us. We want him in our space, but we're not willing to clean out the other stuff so there's actually room for him. Like a famous country star, if you want Jesus to take the wheel of your life, you've got to get out of the driver's seat. And many of us, we we want Jesus to take control when things are out of our control, but when things get back right, we want to grip it again. And that's not what Jesus is looking to do. He's not your genie in a bottle. He's either your king or he's not. All right, everyone say two. All right, this is our second one. How do we make how do we welcome Jesus in our life? We publicly honor him. It says that they waved palm branches and they shouted their praise. Palm branches were a symbol of victory and royalty. What they're doing here is pretty crazy. They're already conquered by this foreign government. They have uh a king in Rome, they're not allowed to have their own king, and there they are publicly in the biggest city in Israel, waving these banners, screaming, Jesus is our king. This was bold, this was very visible, and this was very public. They were declaring Jesus is our king. Can I tell you an issue? Our faith in Jesus was never meant to be private. Our faith in Jesus was never meant to be private. If Jesus has saved you, he deserves the to be honored openly in front of other people. If Jesus has changed your life, he's not looking for you to keep that a secret. And can I tell you, real faith is not private. If you feel like you're following Jesus, but somehow it's it's only for you, then you've missed it. Following Jesus has to be very public. It's there, there's nowhere in the Bible that says keep it to yourself. See, if Jesus has changed your life, it should show up in how you live your life. And I'm not talking about even just in church, I'm talking about at your job, in the conversations you have with friends and family, in every decision that you make, and even in how you live your life. See, Jesus didn't die publicly so that you could follow him privately. And most of us, man, we struggle because we have all kinds of excuses. Well, Jesus, I'm just I'm not that expressive. I'm kind of I'm kind of an introvert. Well, Jesus, I I I get that you want people to give, but guess what? I uh my bank account's just not the same as everybody else's. Well, Jesus, I know I know you want me to forgive and and bless those that have cursed me, but I know that you're just saying that to everybody else. You're not really asking me to do that. You saw what they did. And we're sitting there and we're struggling because we don't want to actually publicly live out our faith. Now, imagine with me something very, very horrible. Imagine that I was a Green Bay Packers fan. I I I can't even get the words out of my mouth without throwing up. It's hard. Imagine I was a Green Bay Packers fan. And every time you come to me, I'm never wearing the gear. When you ask me, who are they playing today? I say, I don't know. Well, who's on their team? Beats me. You think they have a good shot at the Super Bowl? Probably. That makes sense. Uh, have you ever even watched the game? No. Have you ever been to the game? No. Do you want to? I guess. Do you even celebrate when they win? Like I I'll give it a like on Facebook. Pretty soon you're gonna start asking me questions like, are you actually even a fan? And I'd say, hey, I'm a Green Bay Packers fan. We live in shame, we keep it to ourselves. You know how it goes, but it doesn't make sense if we say we're publicly a fan of something to keep it to ourselves. But for some reason in our life, when we talk about our faith in Jesus, we think that we can just keep it to ourselves. Do you love Jesus? Yeah. Yeah, I do. Do you want other people to know? No, not really. Are you gonna share your faith with others? Probably not. Are you going to serve the way Jesus asked you to serve? Probably not. Are you gonna raise your hands during worship? I'm just pretty introverted. You notice that every single person on our leadership team is always up front, they're always raising their hands. Can I tell you? We don't always feel that way. We don't always feel like raising our hands, we don't always feel like worshiping. But can I tell you, you're not held captive by your emotions, or at least I hope not. That we can lead through our emotions. And so every time that we hear the band going, that we are in the presence of God, I always tell our team, man, you are in the presence of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Your hands better not be like this. Like, come on, we're in front of Jesus. Our hands should be high, we should be waving them like we just don't care, like we should be going crazy. And that's on purpose. Guys, sometimes I don't feel it, but it doesn't matter whether I feel it or not. I want Jesus to have my praise. When Jesus is walking through this crowd, you don't see them being like, Oh, that's pretty cool. That's Jesus. They are excited, they're giving everything they have, they're shouting for joy. And we come in sometimes in the house of the Lord, and Jesus is presence here, it's changing lives, and we're just like, that's pretty cool. That's awesome. That's not how Jesus calls us to live. See, we're not called to have private belief, we're not called to have silent faith, we're not called to have hidden devotion. But the crowd on Palm Sunday, they didn't whisper. They didn't kind of nudge each other. They declared and they declared publicly and loudly in front of everyone. Because if Jesus is really king of your life, it won't be hidden. All right, last one, number three. Follow Jesus, follow him, don't just like him. Jesus is ready for the DTR talk. It's all or nothing. See, they made a path for Jesus as he was coming through. They laid down uh their clothes on the road, they cleared a path so that Jesus could enter. And the question for us is simply this, and we're gonna ask it over and over and over again Is there room for Jesus in your life? Are you making room for Jesus in your life? Because we all have room for religion, we love religion. We all have room for inspiration and feeling good. We all have room for church occasionally when it suits us. He came to be king of your life. Jesus didn't come just to be your helper. He came to be your king. And the same crowd that shouted for joy for Jesus this Sunday, they're screaming at the top of their lungs. That's Jesus, that's our king, that's our victor. And can I tell you that it is so easy for us to praise Jesus when it's easy? When he's answering our prayers, when we're seeing miracles, when things feel good, when the band's got the song just right, when the preaching is good and we feel passionate and we're excited, Jesus, you're doing all the right things. But man, where are we when Jesus doesn't do what we want him to do? Where are we when we pray and Jesus doesn't answer it the way that we wanted him to answer? Where are we when Jesus is we feel like asking more from us than giving us? Where are we when we've been praying for our family members and we still haven't seen them saved yet? Where are we when we want healing and healing hasn't come yet? Where are we when faith gets difficult? Because can I tell you, it's only in those moments that you know if you actually believe or not? It's only in those difficult moments when things are hard and not easy when we know whether we really believe or not. See, following is different than feeling. How many of you guys have ever used the GPS to find out where you're going? If you're kind of a bum like me, you'll put it in the GPS and you'll have no idea where you are. You get there, and for some reason, even though you feel like you need to ask GPS, you think you're smarter than GPS. And it tells you to take a left on whatever street, and you're like, that doesn't seem right. I'm gonna go up another mile and do this, or I'm gonna take this turn. And pretty soon you've taken turns, you're not sure where you are, and you're trying to figure it out. And what does the GPS do? It brings you right back where you started and tells you to take the same path again. Many of us in our relationship with Jesus, it looks exactly the same. We say, Jesus, I want you to lead me, but when he starts to tell us to do something that we don't feel like is the right decision, we begin to ignore him. And then we wonder why our life is falling apart. Can I tell you, it's it's so funny to me. I have these calls and texts and emails all the time of people reaching out and they say, Pastor, I don't know what's going on. I don't think God loves me. My life is a mess. And we'll begin to talk, I'll begin to ask questions. It becomes very clear very fast that your life isn't a mess because Jesus doesn't love you. Your life's a mess because you're acting like a dummy. Because everything that Jesus tells you to do, you do the opposite. Then you wonder why you are where you are. And it's so much easier to blame Jesus than it is to take responsibility. Many of us, we we we love Jesus when he's leading in the direction we want to go. But man, do we cower when he leads us in a direction that's hard, that's difficult? We want to ignore him, we want to walk away from him. See, we're not called to just praise Jesus, we're called to follow Jesus. Jesus isn't your assistant, he's not simply your helper. He's either your king or he's not. Can I tell you, Jesus is not looking to simply have you give him your leftovers? Like this crowd, he's looking for someone that's going to give them everything that they had. They laid down their coat, they laid down everything that they had in person before Jesus, and Jesus is asking us to do the very same thing. See, Jesus doesn't just want a part of your life, he wants your whole heart, he wants your whole direction, and he wants your whole future. So today, as we get ready to close, I want to remind you that although Palm Sunday was over 2,000 years ago, it still applies to us today. Because the same question the city was asking is who is this man? Who is Jesus? Is the same question that everybody's asking today. Who is Jesus? And how you answer that question determines everything in your life. Because if Jesus is simply just a good teacher, yeah, you should admire him. That's cool. If Jesus is simply just another prophet, you should probably listen to what he has to say. I remember when I got saved, I had a grandpa, and me and my grandpa were super close, and my grandpa was less than a fan that I started following Jesus. Now he liked the idea of Jesus, he liked the idea of the church or the Bible, but he was not interested in having Jesus change his life, and he made that very clear. And I remember when me and him were talking one day and he's seeing how my life is different, he's seeing that my priorities are changing, and he looks at me and he's like, Do you actually believe Jesus is actually God? Like you believe all that the Bible says, and I was like, Yeah, I do. He's like, Ty, that's that's weird. He's like, Jesus is just a good man, he's just a good teacher, he's just a moral, a moral person. And he's like, Are you actually gonna like change how you live your life because you believe in the Bible and Jesus? And I was like, Yeah, I am. And he just could not understand it. I remember him saying, No, Jesus is just a good man. You should take advantage of the teachings, you should take advantage of the stories, but don't base your whole life off this. Here's my problem when people say Jesus is a is a good man. Jesus made a lot of claims that I don't think a good man would make. Jesus came and said, I am the only way to heaven. That's not really a nice thing to say. Jesus says, I am God. That's kind of a crazy thing to say. Jesus says, Give everything you have to me, follow me, base your life off me. That doesn't sound like the words of just a good teacher. And so we're put in this spot where when Jesus is saying, I am God, I am your king, live your life based solely off me, man. Either Jesus is telling the truth and he is God and He is our Savior and He is our King, or He's crazy. Jesus isn't looking to be a good teacher, He's not looking to be a good man. Jesus is looking to be your king, and Jesus is looking to be your God. And if Jesus is king, you should surrender your life to him. See, the crowd made room for Jesus on the road to Jerusalem, and they did it very visible on the streets in the middle of the day. The question for us is will we make Jesus visible in our life today? Palm Sunday asks us a lot of questions, but let me tell you some of the things it's not asking. It's not asking, do you like Jesus? It's not asking, do you believe in Jesus? It's asking, have you made room for Jesus to be the king of your life? Can I tell you, you can have a moment of emotion, you can have a moment of praise, you can have a moment of passion and excitement, and still miss a life of surrender to Jesus. That grandpa that I was sharing about earlier, he's long since passed. He never knew Jesus. And now, not to not to be brutal, but just to tell you the truth, he's in hell. He liked Jesus. He liked Jesus being around, but he refused to surrender his life to Jesus and make Jesus king. And now he's in hell. It breaks my heart to say that I loved my grandpa. And I'm saying this because I not because I want to be mean, not because I want to be brash, but because I love you as well. I don't want anyone in this room to face that same reality. I don't want anyone's blood on my hands at the end of the day saying, Man, I we like Jesus, but we don't follow Jesus. We we we think Jesus is pretty cool, but we're not willing to surrender our life to him. I want to end by asking this last question one more time. Will you make room for Jesus? Will you make room for the King? Will you make room for him in your life? If I could have every head bowed and eyes closed, I just don't want you to be distracted in this moment. I want to ask two questions to two groups of people. The first question I'm gonna ask is Do you want to follow Jesus? Maybe you've never followed him. Maybe you followed him in the past, but your life has gone astray, and you feel like you need to recommit yourself to following him. If you're in the spot and you've liked Jesus, but you've not really followed him and you want that to change, I want to give you that opportunity. I'm gonna count to three, and on three, I just want you to raise your hand, and we as a church are gonna pray a prayer with you. Can I tell you, one, this is the most important decision of your life. Hear this today. Jesus and your relationship with him is more important than your spouse who you marry. It's more important than whatever job you have, it's more important than where you live, the things that you accumulate. That your relationship with Jesus is the most important thing about you this morning. Two, maybe you feel like you have a long time and you'll get right with Jesus later. You're like, I'll get there, I'm a work in progress. You never know when your last day might be. My grandfather, he passed away suddenly. He uh stroked out of the middle of the night and was gone. He wasn't even that old. We don't know how much time that we have. Don't wait. Make your relationship with God right today. Three, if that's you and you want to follow Jesus, would you just raise your hand? We want to pray with you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Church, would you repeat this prayer after me? Say, dear Jesus, thank you for saving me, for loving me, for leading me. Help me to be bold, help me to be powerful, help me to be loving, help me to follow you all the days of my life. So in your name we pray. Amen. The second question I want to ask is this. Maybe you're here and you do believe in Jesus, you've been following Jesus, but you've recognized this morning that there are areas in your life that you still need to surrender. Maybe you have some habits that you need to give up that Jesus is asking for. Maybe you have some spots in your life that you're like, Jesus, you can have everything but this. Maybe there's some excuses you've been making for some sinful behavior and you're ready to give it up. If there is any area of your life that you feel like you've been holding back, giving to Jesus, that you have not fully surrendered to the King, I want to give you that opportunity. If that's you, would you just raise your hand? I want to pray for you to have strength and boldness today. God, you see these hands, you know these lives, you know our situations. I pray for each and every one of us this morning. That God, you give us boldness, focus, power, strength, love. God, your spirit wasn't given to us just to save us, your spirit was given to us to change us. It was given to us so that your Bible says we can be more than conquerors. That God, we can live a holy and righteous life thanks to you. God, help us to surrender every aspect of our life to you. God, don't allow us to hold back. Don't allow us to be wishy washy. Don't allow us to be half hearted. God, make us fully devoted followers of you today. Let us celebrate the coming of our conquering key. God, we love you and we thank you. It is in your name we pray, and everyone said this morning Amen.
