SPEAKER_04

Y'all ready?

SPEAKER_01

Knock it out.

SPEAKER_04

What's going on, y'all? It's Ryan Rankin with Boys and Brides. I got Carly on the line and Don Luther as well. And we're going to recap the inaugural Borebass that we had um back in early February, I believe. I believe it was early February. We got my dates, right? I got so much going on in life, I don't even know when the dates was. I believe it was early February. Um, so we are gonna speak about that.

SPEAKER_03

Um I mean, I think pretty much everybody knows who I am. I don't know that I have to introduce myself. I mean, if they're listening to this, they probably know who I am. But uh Yeah, no, we had our uh our Borebash and uh everything went great. We were able to hold it in uh Abbeyville, Georgia, at uh where they host the Oak Mogey uh the Oak Mogey Hog Festival, and uh we also have Dalton Luther on the line, and he is kind of the fellow that they they chose or he volunteered. I'm not sure which one it is, but he kind of heads that that deal up. And and it is honestly, it is the largest one-day hog bay in the country. It might be the largest one-day field trial in the country. I mean, it is uh it is amazing what they do, and uh I know he's got a lot of people that uh help him out with that, but it is uh it's awesome what they do with that, and uh I'll let him introduce himself and uh talk a little bit about that.

SPEAKER_05

Well, what's going on, everybody? Dalton Luther. Like I said, like Carter said, we it's not just me that runs the old Mogua Wild Hog Festival. We got a we got a full team, but it was we we hoping for another big turnout and maybe keep this thing growing, get it as big as we can get it. Might even have to move it to a a full weekend if it keeps getting bigger and bigger.

SPEAKER_04

So yes, it it's it's it's awesome, guys. Like if you guys ever get a chance to go, y'all need to go. I know it's coming up uh May 9th, Mother's Day weekend that's Saturday, but y'all need to go. First and foremost, I just want to say thank you, Dalton, and y'all team for letting us post the event at your place. Um we are gracious enough to have 23 teams enter the inaugural Boer Bash this year. Um 544 hogs were caught with three and a half days. We had 23 teams enter. We had 16 armadillos caught. We had the biggest cash payout we've had in all the hunts over the past couple years we hosted. Um we had we paid out fifteen thousand eight hundred dollars in cash. But that's not including the buckles. Every every first through third got buckles, six buckles, and then all the side pots got buckles as well. And um we also was able to raise which became 54 total buckles we gave out, and then we also raise$5,850 for courageous outdoor kids. Tommy Windowman down uh their team down in um Dublin do a great job. And they do, if anybody doesn't know, they do uh hunts for kids with cancer, illness, uh illnesses, and ailments and stuff like that, and they're great folks. And uh we just wanted to be able to help them out. Each year we try to give it back to a charity, and this year we decided to give it back to courageous outdoor kids. Um we had the top three teams uh using the Dixie Doggers Big Boar Score. This was based off the three biggest boar hogs on first place. Oh, we'll go through third place, or third place was um the Armadillo Snatchers, they had 407 and a quarter points. Um they also they took home$2,300 and six buckles. And then second place was the Boar Junkies. Um they had 415 points. They took home$3,450 and also as well, six buckles. And then for the what is this, the third, third year in a row? Um not the board back in the Frenchman Memorial Hunts before then, but this is an August Borback. Um Southern Swan out of South Carolina got 416 and a quarter points, and they also paid out five thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars with as well as six buckles.

SPEAKER_03

And uh I think uh I think this is the tightest or top three's ever been, wouldn't it, Ron? I mean, only yeah, only nine points separating third from first. I mean, and when you think about a pound is half a point, yeah. 20 20 pounds, uh 20 pounds added on to three hogs really ain't that much, you know.

SPEAKER_01

No, and and even with that, I mean, it could be just an eighth of an inch on the teeth or you know, or an inch over the whole board. That was I thought it was pretty wild, or something, you know. Um which when we you know, doing the the big boar score, it uh uh we we had a couple in the Shankaton that was pretty close, but as far as from first to third, dude, that that's that was just to me, it was just it was crazy how close it was. It was it was confusing just about.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and I wanna and I'm gonna say this. Um I I mean I gave a shout out, I mean I don't know, shout out and gave a shout out to the Southern Flynn I think I Lucas and then with them. Um but if you can say that about the board junkies, because Chad's been in the top the top three four years in a row, I believe. Chad and 13 with the board junkies. They've they've been in the top, I mean Lucas and them have one in three years in a row, but Chad and them have been in the top three four years in a row.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So that they've done really well. We also have um the side pots, and they are the biggest board, the biggest live board, the biggest non-bore, the biggest armadillo, the longest tusks, and the longest stringers. The biggest boar haul went to the board hunkeys. They had a it was 168 and three-quarter points. They paid out$750 plus the buckles. The biggest live boar was pack them up South Georgia style, was 172 points, three-quarter points, and they paid out$600 um as well as the buckles. The biggest non-bore, which could have been a sal or a bar hog, and we caught some plaque this year for that. Over the past few years, we've always hosted up, we always had a bar buckle, like a bar hog buckle, or um biggest sal, and nobody and nobody's nobody's ever brought anything in. So this year we decided to do um the biggest non-bore, which combined the sow and a bar, and they brought like three or four bars in this year. So, of course, and then we had people be ITCH about that. So we're gonna figure that out for next year.

SPEAKER_06

Um, but I had to separate them too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, we're gonna leave it just how it is.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. That's right. I agree with that, Carter. And they can just be I T C H all they want.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I it don't matter how you do it, it does not matter how you shake it out. No, they're gonna somebody's gonna cry about something.

SPEAKER_06

That's right, that's right.

SPEAKER_04

So the big we also had the biggest armboard went to the buttermilk biscuits, man. It was 232.1 points. They paid out$1,000 and they also got six buckles. The biggest armadilla went to the buttermilk biscuits as well, and they got it was a 12-pound armadilla. That also paid out$500 with six buckles. The longest tusk armadillo. Heck yeah, that's a big tank. That's a tank. Um, the longest tusk went to the armadilla snatchers with seven and seven eighths inches um of tusk, that's combined cutter tusks. And they paid out$850 plus the buckles, and then the longest stringer went to the Tri-State Coles. They brought in 41 hogs. They got$600 and um some buckles as well. Them hogs are stinking too.

SPEAKER_06

You ain't lying.

SPEAKER_04

But I just want I just want to give a shout out to everybody that participated, man, because we know these hard uh you're away from your family and stuff for three and a half days. We had teams all the way from Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina end of this year. And we could have we couldn't be more thankful. Um sorry, there's a burp. I'm sorry about that. But don't worry about it.

SPEAKER_01

We didn't have anybody from Arkansas. That that I know.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but uh shout out, shout out to uh um Sullivan for not wanting to uh get into it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you can't.

SPEAKER_04

I think he was scared. I think it's scary.

SPEAKER_01

Dude, I went down there. There's hogs. I'm talking I don't even want to get into it. White boy Rick, that dude worked so hard, and I'm talking about like we're knocking all these boar hogs out. And I'm like, bro, why don't we hunt a tournament or something? And then you know what he talked about. This was last week. This one's that well I guess we could hunt this one. What are you talking about? These damn hogs, 400 pounds and nine inch teeth. I mean, there was one hog, I mean, he he weighed himself. You know what I'm saying? And like, why would you not get it? And then all I heard was he was gonna get in the the boar bash and sent me all these pictures. How many pictures did you get, right? Of what? Of of Brax.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, I got I got I got I thought he was in there.

SPEAKER_01

No, he's in the he's in that uh LGBTQYN stuff. He's he's playing pretty strong in that right now. I think he's like starting a club.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, he's got the level four, level five hard dogs. They get they'll they'll just blow all the other dogs off the map.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I mean, I don't know. Listen, I don't know, but like I know I went down there hunting with him and I came outside at one o'clock in the morning. He had white boy Rick in the dog box breeding all his dogs. That's right. I was like, what are you doing? He's like, I don't know. And you know what he's on the rock. He looked at me, he said, That's the way the cake cut sometimes.

SPEAKER_04

That's right. Hey, I do want to give a shout-out to the man. We had um we had 80, almost I think 83 sponsors this year, and that helps us out with um covering uh bounce house for the kids, space painting for the kids, um paying for the buckles for the tournament, uh, just everyday food or something off the vendors this year. I guess some beer, some drinks, and this free alcohol up there at the weigh-ins. Like that that donation goes so far, and we can't thank all the sponsors. There's been so many. I know my buddy Um Brian Yeoman's from uh Okeechobee, Florida area. He uh he donated like$2,400 to go to the bubbles. I know Brent Johnson with uh Baden Chevrolet, he donated$1,000. Bud donated$500. I'm just trying to think of some big ones right off the rip. But they donate so much money to help out with this, and we're super thankful to have these sponsors, man. Um it it it really me it really means a lot. And and and also it means a lot to have the spectators show up. We have people driving all over just to watch the way in. Um and I know people come to watch the live hauls get pulled off the trailer and tied up and everything like that. And uh and we can't we can't thank you enough. We had a big freeze come that night. Remember, it was really bad. And we still had a bunch of people show up. And I think if we had better weather, we would have more. I mean, a lot of the food vendors sold the sold out all their food. We sold a bunch of merch. I know um um Raptor Art supplies, Darla Rapid, and then they sold a bunch of stuff. Uh the festival was telling them to sell some t-shirts. Um Joey, Joey and Nathan, Joe or Nathan was doing a lot of work, and we can't appreciate we appreciate Nathan doing a lot of work for that.

SPEAKER_01

I gave away all kinds of stuff.

SPEAKER_04

But you yeah, I'm about to say Joey, you was out there giving away stuff, you had a podcast going. I mean, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know how many people came by. We talked on the podcast. You know, just just talking, just saying hi. It was a good time.

SPEAKER_04

Well, that's what I'm saying, and we're so thankful, man. Um, we're hoping to be able to host it somewhere like that next year. If they want to do it again, we'll do it again. I know, I know we got some hogs donated as well to the uh the festival. We might do a buyback this year or next year, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_05

So uh so we'll we'll uh Yeah we're good we're good with hosting it if y'all want to.

SPEAKER_04

So we'll get together on that for sure. For sure. And uh I put I put a lot of this information and I have to give a shout out right here or say something to get off my chest. Um I put all this stuff in the latest Tuskers magazine, and I got the Tuskers magazine in the mail today, and I found out that this was the last issue he was ever doing. Um what? Yeah, look it up. Adding them, I think I believe they're hanging hanging the hanging it up.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I've been trying to talk.

SPEAKER_04

Oh my yeah, so yep, so so I want to just give a shout out to Ed and let him know we are Borther Bodge is thankful that he let us put articles in from the past couple years, and the last one, or if I would have known this, I'd have write a better one. But the last the last article was about the inaugural board bash and this uh this issue. So we just want to say thank you, Ed, for everything you let us do and hope that that you come back around and social media and digital stuff these days have killed a lot of stuff, so it kind of sucks to see a magazine go out go out the door.

SPEAKER_06

But I just want to say that real quick.

SPEAKER_01

Well I know what I'm doing.

SPEAKER_06

You gotta start a magazine?

SPEAKER_05

Yep.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_04

There you go. I mean we I mean you need it because I mean and and and Eddie even talks about how his life's getting busy and all the stuff and what the fuck is that? Yeah, and that he's got a lot of stuff. He's doing a bunch of stuff. Yeah, I mean, I'm looking at it right now, he's the vice president editor of a magazine, knife maker, vice president of the Oklahoma Dog Hunting Association, working a 40, 50 hour day job, top of that, trying to throw a hog hunter in and not much time for sleep. I mean, I get I mean I get it.

SPEAKER_01

He was doing shirts and hats, and I I mean, bro, like all kinds of stuff. Like I I don't know how he has any time.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, but but like I say, I mean, I'm thankful that he let us be a part of it, boarding bugs be a part of it. And the last about the about the novel more bachelor's in this last issue, so y'all check it out, I guess, because you can even get it anymore. But I just want to say that.

SPEAKER_01

No, that's I'm glad you said that. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And then I also wanted to say, uh, I know it has nothing pertaining with any of this. Um, y'all be praying for the fires in Georgia, in South Georgia right now. Uh they are it's all of Georgia's on fire right now, especially South Georgia. They just declared a state of emergency because they had the government bid. Um you have going on. So I know I know Cody Galwin and their camp down there is uh up in flames down in the Fargo, Georgia area. And we posted that video the other day, we got announcements sent in from some people down that way, and uh I had that hall running out of the woods that was on fire. You just got things everything's everything's gonna be changed up this season, especially for bear season, so in a couple months. So that's gonna change the game. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I was talking to Charlie Watkins right when we we started this, and that's what he was talking about, how much it's burnt up. You know, him he's got uh his club is on the other side of the road from Cody and M's.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And uh that's what he was he said, man. He said it's bad.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I can I can imagine. I couldn't got to imagine. But like I said, we are super thankful for uh y'all letting us host this event at uh at the Okamoge Wild Hog Festival, man. It's it was a great location. Everybody's there, pull their chucks in, unload good. We had the covered arena with the let uh or covered area to let everybody enjoy up under there. Yeah, the kids playing in a little park area. I mean, it just it was just a it was just a fun time. And if y'all can make the next one, I would highly recommend it. But I want to say if y'all can make the damn Oakamoge Wild Hog Festival, you need to. Um two years ago, it was what he had y'all had 7,500 people in attendance. I think I think you'll have more this year. You just gotta have the weather to hold off.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, and that that's what that's what hurt us. That's what hurt us last year with the weather. Yeah, we just need good weather.

SPEAKER_04

Y'all still had good good amount of people show up, right? Y'all had leaf. Oh, yeah, we still had a good turnout.

SPEAKER_05

You know, yeah. It just hurt us on the vendors and stuff.

SPEAKER_00

I thought the weather was great last year. It was supposed to pour rain, but it turned out it was real nice out there.

SPEAKER_05

It it was. It did. The weather did hold off, but it scared people. It scared people. Yeah, that's what scared a lot of people from coming.

SPEAKER_03

I'm not saying Yeah, I know two people it's scared from coming.

SPEAKER_01

It it did. I woke up and I said, I said, man, I said, God mighty. Me and Rodney were just back and forth. Nate was like, hey, whatever, you know, and I was like, and it was raining here. I was like, ah, and then then I could I I'm calling everybody. What's it doing? What's it doing? And sure enough, it ain't doing nothing.

SPEAKER_05

Nah, it didn't it didn't rain all day, thank, thankfully.

SPEAKER_01

Well, all I can say is everybody had their good time with their dog. I'll be back this year to regain the to to to whoop some ass. Let me say that. Chaos Jr. or tuned up red. I let them boys have their time this past year, suck it up. Y'all laugh and ham it up, do whatever you want. But I I got some Brindle dogs that are gonna bust some ass. I hope so, man.

SPEAKER_04

I want you too, man. I'm going what oh, speaking of speaking of that, like uh the people that showed out last year, I mean Eric Neely drove from Oklahoma, he's done really well. He's done really well, and guess what? Two of his hounds won the two dogs at the rules this year. Yeah. So I want to feel I want to feel you back, but but he may be five. I'm trying to get a lot of people like me and Carter have been hyping it up at the people out west are saying, man, it's a damn I mean, I know they got their bays and stuff, and and people do things differently and all that stuff, but I'm telling y'all, the Okamorgue Wild Hog Festival is one of the bays to be at.

SPEAKER_01

It's just a good time. I mean, that's right. No matter what. It's just it's a good time.

SPEAKER_04

Well, and you you got you and and the festival does so really well. I mean, you obviously get people from Georgia, South Carolina, all that stuff, but you they pull so many people from Florida. The state of Florida shows up at that one. A lot of people from Florida come up to that bay because you can't do that in Florida. Yeah, I was like, go ahead.

SPEAKER_05

No, no, you go ahead.

SPEAKER_04

I was to say, I know Tapco and them have their bay and brought out and it does really well and draws a lot of people from Florida. But y'all, that it's different when you have a festival going on as well as a bay. Because there's so many there's so much other stuff there to do. Like that's right.

SPEAKER_05

It's a it's a family, it's more of a family event.

SPEAKER_04

You can bring your family and and the the the not trying to be no prejudice or or sexist or whatever, but the guys can go, the guy, the guys can go hang out at the the bay pen and the family and the kiddos or the the mamas and whatever they can go walk around the little vendors and hang out and eat some food and get their crafts and stuff like that. It it's like it's a little bit of everything for everybody, you know what I'm saying? And that that's what makes it special and makes it different.

SPEAKER_05

That's right. And we're gonna have a lot more for the kids this year. A lot more.

SPEAKER_04

Heck yeah. So that'd be good. I mean, and they got that, they got the pig chase for the little kids. I mean, y'all take it, y'all take your time or do a lot to get the kids involved, and that's that's something to commend commend y'all, man. It's it's it's awesome to see that.

SPEAKER_05

It's gonna be we got uh uh we got we got 30 more vendors than we had last year. So we packing them in there. Yeah, we made more, we made, we made a we made a little more room, and like I said, we're gonna have a lot more for the kids.

SPEAKER_04

Well yeah, and it and y'all done so much, man, since me and Carter, me, this is probably this is probably our fourth year going, fourth or fifth year, me and Carter. It's been going, and um and the change y'all haven't done is incredible. Y'all spruced up the the y'all went from I mean that one year y'all went all the way to like two in the morning band and you had to call the local uh volunteer fire department to come in and get the lights going and but now y'all got lights in there and then y'all got to do it. Yeah, that was that was our first year.

SPEAKER_05

We wasn't that was our first year. I wasn't quite prepared for to have a turnout like we had. So but it was I mean, I'm not complaining, but yeah, we made it, we made it work. But yeah, last year we was a little more prepared, and this year we're gonna be even more prepared.

SPEAKER_04

Well that's that's what I'm saying. Like y'all, y'all listen to what the people's input is and y'all make the change. Like y'all, y'all, y'all's park has changed tremendously over the past three or four years. Uh y'all got concrete going through there and stuff like that. You got an area for the kids to play at a little park. I mean, y'all get that covered pavilion now. I mean, y'all got y'all got it going on.

SPEAKER_05

We we we we working on it. We working on it. What y'all what's y'all's opinion on going to the two dogs first? Let's get that out of the way.

SPEAKER_01

You don't have one sojo. Yeah, yeah. No.

SPEAKER_04

I think I mean I ain't got no damn good big dogs. I got some wood dogs out there. All I all I know is I got one number for you, Joey. He's running with chaos, so it don't matter.

SPEAKER_06

Right, bro.

SPEAKER_01

Right, bro. I'm fixing to give you chaos anyways. Like, dude, he is driving me crazy. He acts like 12. That's all he does. He wants to hunt and then he wants to bathe. So what do you do with it? You take him up and you take them to the back. I'm taking him this weekend. I was like, bro, I didn't even take him to Uncle Earl's. I did, well, Nathan brought him, but I never did bathe. Because somebody wanted to go hunting. Like, whatever. You know how that works.

SPEAKER_04

But but listen, y'all doing the two dogs in the beginning with the hogs you got, I think it's is tremendous because you'll give the dogs a break. Like, you know how you know how I mean you got so many injuries. Like, you you guys get a lot of injuries for a one-day bay.

SPEAKER_02

And by the time the dogs go to the two-dog, by them hogs go around from the one dog to the two-dog, they get tired out. Yeah, I think it'll be I think they'll be better. I mean, I think it'll have less catch outs.

SPEAKER_05

You know what I'm saying? That was that was that was that was my thinking behind it. And I got a lot more hogs this year, so that's gonna help too.

SPEAKER_01

That that's what hurt us at that the first one that we went to. Is but it like I said, at the same time, a bay dog should be anything that comes.

SPEAKER_05

comes out but the hog you know it was late at night and they had done been run and we were the last two runs it was us with Tap pole and uh Cody R and we got a little bit smaller hog and that was honestly the first time my dogs had caught out and I thought it was funny you know I was like look at these dummies you know but like you said doing the two dog first I really think that that's gonna help especially some some of the strong dogs yeah that's right that was that was my thinking behind it and and plus I think we'll I feel like we'll get a lot more two-dog entries because having it with the two dog not starting so late we just really don't get a lot of two dog entries and that I I just feel like that's what the people like to see so we're gonna try it and we can we can always go back but yeah I feel like running the two dog first is gonna be better it's gonna be a crowd pleaser and that's when the crowd's air middle of the day that's right that's right then I and I think I think it's smart man like you said you can always go back to it if it doesn't work out but it's worth the try it's a hundred percent worth the try well if it helps some strong dogs too much we'll just have to swap it back because I ain't got nothing but weak dogs that's what I was talking about like for people like Eric Mealey and drove all across the country like they they need it like I my dogs it don't matter anyway like whatever I've been I've been I've been after dust tomorrow trying to get Dust Amor to drive out they don't call him out here think he's like oh what are you doing I don't think I I don't think Eric Mealy's gonna make it this year.

SPEAKER_03

I think he's gonna send some dogs with with somebody but I don't think he's gonna be able to make it I I I talked to him the other day I don't I don't think he is yeah he done got a coon dogging well he's giving a hell here's what I know Eric Mealy will send some dogs and he'll send some money so it works out either way.

SPEAKER_04

That's right that's right that's right it's entries it's entries that's for sure oh yeah that's for sure I mean I do you know off the top of your head how many injuries you had last year?

SPEAKER_05

Uh in the in the one dog I had a hundred and sixteen and in the two and in the two dog I think we had right at eighty yeah and that and like I said everybody that's that's with the range everybody's got scared of the range of yeah yeah we we actually had more entries last year than we did the year before so we broke a record the first year and we broke that record this year. So or this past year so that's well see if we can break it again. Yeah yeah I I th I feel like running the two dog first we probably gonna have a good shot. Heck yeah did uh did y'all y'all went up from two dollars to five dollars this year last year right yes that that that was that was really the the two dog going first was a change and we did go up on our gate entrance to well it's really just to help us so I ain't you know it's two dollars to get into the festival and then it was two dollars to watch the band.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_05

So we so we just went to five dollars to get in and then you can go anywhere in the park. Yeah y'all hear that people it costs a whopping five dollars you can't I mean and and and we move we moved it was three and under free now it's ten and under free we we're not getting paid for all this is just all this is for the people so all this is for for the people so like I said yeah and it it helps us out we ain't gotta have volunteers all day to work that baby gate taking up money so we're just like let's let's just charge one fee and they can go anywhere they want to if they want to watch the band they can that's awesome man you got five dollars and you I've been to a lot of other places and and and they're charging twenty twenty five dollars to get in y'all y'all are uh y'all keeping it low and but I mean you guys get a good product when you get second and we want and we want all and we want all the kids there so bumping the age up to 10 and under I feel like that's that gets most every kid in there free you know but Drew and and the pig chase the pig chase is free yeah I forgot the pig chase is free too yeah I said Drew Brooks just missed the qualification by by about a year or so he can't get in free then my still can I think Drew's finally aged out of the uh pig chase too so but if you have never seen a pig chase at the old Mogey Wild Hog Festival that is worth your five dollars and about$20 more because they got about 40 of these kids herded up in there and then they got age conditions and whatnot.

SPEAKER_03

So 40 of them chase this little pig around one of them I mean these kids are diving all over the place trying to catch it. Well they get these 40 done with they somebody catches it you know they get the trophy they get the picture taken and here comes another herd of 40 kids and they put a little bit bigger hog in because these are a little bit bigger kids and it it just they rotate these herds the kids in there man they do a good job and it it's it is worth I mean kids are laying out there's stumps everywhere and trees everywhere and they're diving you know it's just it's entertaining for sure. It's the one in the bat that's scared of it it just runs over there and curls up against the wall they go there put their hands on it like I won't it's a it's a it's worth the price of admission just to see that man.

SPEAKER_05

That's right. That's right. And it don't cost them nothing.

SPEAKER_04

Hey how how did you get uh hooked up with uh becoming involved with the bay pin up I know y'all the wild hog festival committee how'd you how'd you get hook reeled into doing that?

SPEAKER_05

Well it's like I said it's been going on since 92 so and I grew up in Avyville so I've always been down there went to it won pig chases myself you know and as I got older I just I helped more and helped more and Mr. Wayne Wilson run it for a long time and I just started helping him as I got up in age and started hog hunting you know so I was down there working on pins doing doing whatever I needed to do with him and then COVID hit so the festival went away for a year or two I think it was two years we didn't have one with COVID and after that the the old committee well Mr Wayne passed away and the the committee all the other committee members were older and they didn't they didn't want to fool with it no more. So our mayor called me one day just eye to blue and like man wouldn't you want to um get some get some people up and start this festival back up. But I jumped all over it I was like yes sir I I I can get some people that want to have this festival and that's kind of where it started.

SPEAKER_04

Because y'all's y'all's town man I mean it's not a it's not a big town you know I mean what you got one stoplight in there or is it a four-way? Do what now I say I say y'all's town's not a big town like Abbeyville's not a big town so no we got one we got one red light. That's what I'm saying you got one stoplight in there so it's this this this event man it brings so many people to the the the little town of Abbeyville and it's just a to get see the community get together it's it's it's awesome to see that. I mean when you got 7500 people I know that beer store right there that little marathon or whatever dash they can oh yeah probably sells out of all their beer and I'm and I know Carter's a big contributor of that. But think about it though I mean that I mean that all the little that little coffee shop and little businesses I don't know what other food or exactly the dollar turn I mean they're they're getting they're getting paid out that that one day and it and it's or that weekend I guess you know people a lot of people are spending the night so that's yeah that's good to see and and I like how you say y'all took it over so I know your wife Rebecca does a lot of uh does a lot of work as well with the with the committee and then uh who I don't want to butcher the name who was who is the lady that was uh that works at the prison that was helping us joe Joe Barton yes she's she's a big she's a big part of it oh yeah she kind of handles she she's got it going on oh oh yeah she stays she stays on top of us now she stays on top of us yeah she's a very she's kind of like the mom she's kind of like the mama of the group okay she keeps us in shape but she's she's pretty much she's pretty much over our food booths and stuff and then we got Nicole Sheffield she's a she's a big part of this she's over our arts and crafts and Alex Clements is over our entertainment Caitlyn Barton she handles all our t-shirts and we're we're gonna we actually got bottom land camo shirt and hats this year to go along with our farce green shirts and and we also got koozies so hey y'all bringing them yellow shirts back on yeah you want one we sold we we them them was some big sellers I tell you I ain't got but 400 piled up in my house to say we that was a miss we we swung a miss with the yellow the yellow was not a hit hey you got you gotta try it out you got you gotta try it out I understand but but in our defense in in our defense the whole committee gave us a paper and they had every t-shirt marked down from 92 so I was like man let's just start it over from 92 and you know just follow their color and we'll just start over well yellow was the second year color so we're gonna I think we're gonna I think we're gonna scratch that one out.

SPEAKER_05

I understand I understand um hey now y'all y'all y'all you you were on a team on the the board for the board bath weren't you yes yeah yeah yeah you don't have to tell it but let's hear about the let's hear about the one good hole you talking town yeah yeah we we we hunted two full days or two and a half days trying to and we hadn't caught nothing I mean nothing and I got a buddy he's actually the mayor now that lives right by the piglet the grocery store in Abbeyville he and he's been telling me he's got pictures of some big boar hogs so we go right there in town in the city limits and that's where we catch our biggest boar hog 200 I think he was 224 pounds that's a good one that's a damn that's a solid hog I therefore too yeah and had a good time I think we were I think we were second or third in the biggest live boar side part okay yeah yeah yeah in the city limits so how how'd you like hunting a tournament like that I don't know if he hunting many tournaments but how'd you put that that was actually that was actually my first one and it was it was it was awesome. I I love it like I like I like the boar bash strictly because it's no thermals no thermal dogs it's just straight bait dogs I mean you can hunt at night but you just use curd dogs and that's kind of that's kind of why I like it and it was it was a fun full three days of hunting. Yep yeah we I mean we we take pride in that and I mean we could open it up for thermals and stuff like that the boar wars I wouldn't I would not yeah I we're probably not but I'd say we could I know borer wars does that stuff like we try to keep a good um keep it straight and like um honest as possible and that's what we try to take in a hunt we try to take we we try to help hold the most integrity in this hunt we don't want to hear nothing to do with cheating like the first time we ever decided to host a hunt somebody was talking about it was going to be rigged of the jump and we're like oh heck no so we went and got a uh polygraph example that's that that's right and that's another good thing I like about you know like I said this is my first one I've done and I just done it you know to support the cause so yeah so it was it was it was awesome and I like how you do the polygraph and I I don't know how these younger kids they might can do it but I don't know how you hunt all day daylight to dark and then want to go at night I would slap out I bet I bet it's a it's almost a young man's game almost but I don't know that no what are y'all to I don't know the y'all saying it's a young man's game like y'all are young.

SPEAKER_04

Oh yeah well I'm telling you after after they like the dark I'm good on going at night y'all can have that night body beat the shit and I don't know I I like I like going home and taking some naps like younger I I don't know but I don't know these I don't know if these some of these guys are getting loaded up on the book sugar or something staying out all night but uh I think the yeah no I can I can't do that.

SPEAKER_01

I think the most impressed I've ever been was when we done I think the first Shankaton that we done and it this is one that we've done Dalton it's uh it's a virtual hunt and I I called it like we we originally done it and it lasts from like Friday till the next Saturday. Oh well and it's so that way like you don't have to hunt the whole time. It's you know with people work and all that stuff well couple guys I know they hunted from Friday till the next Saturday every single day. I and I don't know that they went to sleep that's crazy. Dude they caught enough I ain't got enough dogs to do it all them poor dogs I was like I I I don't know what what they I know what they were doing but I was I was impressed I said how in the hell did y'all manage that ain't no way and I think they did it two two or three years in a row and uh it it was pretty wild.

SPEAKER_03

I was like man I I just I can't do that it's like nine days total that's crazy I I was wild after the after the three days and I didn't even hunt the the weigh in day because I wanted to be down there to help out but yeah that's uh I can only imagine I can hunt about all I know is we hunted in that thing one time and we hunted I I guess it was just you know the weekend we we hunted the the weekend but we was hunting hard blood from 24 hour type stuff and we went down to South Georgia hunting come back up and man he was at Ryan's house and old Stinky Pete he didn't have no no skin left on no fur left on the front of his arms or his legs from running through fire and Ron sitting there just mad at him and I'm like Ron he ain't got no skin left on the front of his bag I needed what I needed one more class from him I mean we had been just running ragged and he sitting there just cussing this dog I'm like he don't want to go no more he won't give it that that's that's one thing that's one thing you will find out on these hunts basically on that bore badge like you you got to have some dogs that can go.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah you have some dog power and you've got to find out what you're feeding you'll find out what you're feeding. That's yeah you it exactly you will find out I want to say uh um sorry I misspoke it I thought about it was early February the weigh in was the January 21st through 24th we also caught some flack from that from all the Alabama people shout to my the Dawsons down in uh near Union Spring so they wanted to enter it but with Carter's rest on the schedule and uh we had made we already made previous commitments to go help out with a veteran hunt with Logan Campbell in February um we couldn't find any other dates but to put it on that so next year we'll make sure we get into February because Alabama has a deer season longer than yeah anything like Alabama's deer season is like 14 months.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah it's a long time it's it's stupid it's stupid it goes from February the 10th is our last day and we can start October 1st that's crazy. Yeah and I mean we're right go ahead that's my best go ahead gun season goes from November till February 10th that's that's gun season and and you can kill a uh a deer you can kill two deer a day every day oh bro like we have freezer don't do that in Georgia like and and we still there there's not enough deer taken off our properties but it just lasts so long it's like you get tired of you know like I don't know how some people can deer hunt that much but I I mean I guess it's like hog hunting you know some people don't say how you can do it that much yeah I know we we need to go to that two deer a day every day.

SPEAKER_03

I hate them things man we need to get rid of them.

SPEAKER_04

I'm ti I'm tired of this propaganda that's going around online and granted we did catch five or 544 hogs did get caught which does help the farmers a lot of people obviously it stops or farm a lot that helps the farmers uh get those hogs out but man these deer are ridiculous i i I see way more I'll go I'll go spy on a field at night with whatever and you'll see you'll see a lot more deer than hogs hundreds of deer man hundreds of deer and uh me and par me and par was talking about the other day about people at least these deerwoods near where we hog hunt and we're talking about Dave Williams and uh they're talking about how much money they spend on protein feeders and all this stuff well the land buds up to a dairy that has a depredation permit and they're just out there wearing these deer out and these people on the these people right there are damn feeding these protein and got all these rooms and stuff like that. It doesn't change anything the deer is still there and they're still shooting good deer on the hunting club next to it. So like there's so much deer around and I and the propaganda against hogs that's a whole different podcast but it's ridiculous.

SPEAKER_06

That's right they can't commercialize hog hunting because it's hard work at the end of the day.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah commercial you can commercialize deer hunting and ruin all other hunting it's just like they commercialized hog hunting and then it went to duck hunting because of duck dynasty. And then all of a sudden it's now in turkey hunting. So everything's getting commercialized now they're just trying to make a dime off of it running the price up and just making it a rich man's sport. That's why dog sports like we gotta hold our ground on it because that's about the only thing we got left. We're gonna get funneled out of everything else. I mean shoot by the by 10 more years shoot normal people might not be able to go hunt deer except on their own property.

SPEAKER_04

Well I mean look at look look at the eight that little bill they were trying to pass with the Greyhound Act thing. You know what I'm saying? They're trying to push the dog hunting stuff out and then he will it's not just the hogs and the deer dogging it's all the doggings and I'm glad that I'm glad that got reversed as what I know for right now. And who knows if it's if it's actually done or if it's tabled for another time or what they try to bring it back again. Shout out the people that with the lawyers and stuff that caught that yeah put a stop to that that was a lot of people representative he said it was it was pretty much dead and you know what I mean was talking about we was talking about we was talking about uh all these deer hunters like you know I used to all the time I people looking for people to lease outland or they had openings in clubs and we're like the first ones to message them and like hey man we want to we want to get in the club we'll play a full membership we won't hog hunt during deer season or turkey season but after that we were in a dog hunt. You're like no we're not letting dogs on our property yada yada well first let me introduce you to a coyote that lives out there with them all the time so that's another that's one of my first go-to um second of all I always tell people I'm like I have all this equipment all this farm equipment like I can go out there and help you clear roads and do all this stuff they're like no no no no no and all this stuff we talked to one guy his I think his lease was four thousand dollars four thousand dollars a year and he said a guy from Atlanta paid sixty five hundred dollars to come in and shoot the hog that's that's what happens it was only for like a few seconds it was just a few seconds

SPEAKER_02

Oh anyway, so I'm going back to I'm going back to playing.

SPEAKER_04

Me and Car was talking about we're going to it's probably going to come soon. We're going to talk about getting a deer hunting lease or at least out lease the deer hunting lease, like bid more than it and get it from the deer hunters. And say we get like 10 headed guys or whatever, and we'll pay them the$4,000 a year to lease the property. But we're going to have rules on it. If you see a deer and don't shoot it like the hogs, we're going to you're going to get kicked out of the club.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, that's right.

SPEAKER_04

That's what we're going to do.

SPEAKER_03

So that's what we do. We're going to post it on the message boards and say, you know, we're looking for members, and then all these deer hunters will pour it in there, and we're just going to be like, no, we don't allow skill hunting.

SPEAKER_01

Dude, I've got so many people mad at me. I'm talking about they they hate me here. Because that's what we did. Like we have that that it's a lease, it's like a thousand acres or so, and it's prime deer hunting. And the guys that were in it were such jerks to us. Well, come time to pay the lease. Everybody was late with their money and couldn't do it. I paid the whole lease. Well, the next year, nobody had paid me back yet. Come time to do it again. So I told him, I was like, guys, well, you know, now we're now we're a couple thousand dollars apiece in the hole, and here I am, you know, it's eight thousand dollars a year. Well, I took that and I turned it into a strictly all I do is run my puppy dogs all deer feeding on it. I don't allow nobody to hunt.

SPEAKER_04

That's that's the way you should do it. I ain't that they're kill this commercialized deer hunting, it's killing the dog hunters, all that stuff. It's killing all of them.

SPEAKER_01

Killing all that killing everything. I had a guy call me yesterday and said, Man, I'll give you five thousand dollars a season, no, thirty five hundred dollars a season just to turkey hunt it. And I was like, damn. But I got one guy who turkey hunts that spot already, so I can't do him wrong. But I'm like, you would really pay that much. You know what I'm saying? To me, it's just ridiculous. But I because I made the comment, I said, if he comes up five grand, like I mean, he's gonna get it. He can kill all of them turkey. I don't care.

SPEAKER_06

I understand.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they they're commercializing it to where it's it's gonna be a rich man's game.

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah, listen.

SPEAKER_04

So what else you got about the open leg while hawks up there doing all these whistles and other there, dog?

SPEAKER_05

Like I said, we pretty much went over it. Like I said, two dogs gonna be first, starting at 6 a.m., same as last year. The signups will start at 6 a.m. We'll draw around 7 and we'll kick this thing off about 8. And everybody's messaging me about when the one dog sign up is gonna be, but I really don't know. It'll be 1 o'clock or later.

SPEAKER_04

100%.

SPEAKER_05

Like I said, I don't know. We'll we'll start we'll probably start signup right after the kick chase for the one dog. Even though we we'll probably we'll we'll probably be halfway through the two dog, I hope. I just really don't know. But other than that, like I said, five dollars to get in. What time is the whole family?

SPEAKER_04

What time what time sign up for the two dog?

SPEAKER_05

6 a.m.

SPEAKER_03

Boy, that's tough on a player. I got it I got to start earlier unless y'all want to be there at four in the morning. You got to with all them runs, man. You got to understand it.

SPEAKER_05

It's either start earlier or stay later, and I'd rather start a little earlier. We're gonna be there late regardless. Yeah, that's the truth. It don't matter what time I start, we're gonna be there late. That's uh I hope anyway. I hope anyway.

SPEAKER_04

They got they got anywhere to stay around that place?

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah, yeah. You know, we don't have no hotels in Abbeyville or motels or whatever, but you know, Cordell, Eastman, Fitzgerald, and we got a bunch of Airbnbs, and I'll have Rebecca or or Joe or somebody. We'll post all the Airbnbs in the area for everybody. I'll get that done. I'll get that done one day this week and I'll let you know and y'all can share it. Whatever. It'll be it'll be on the Old Moga Baha Festival page.

SPEAKER_04

That'd be good. And anybody have any questions? What's your phone number for me chat?

SPEAKER_05

229-425-5520. Y'all message me, call me, whatever, whenever. You're a brave man.

unknown

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_06

You're a brave man.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, it's already done started. I've had a bunch of people call me. I don't it don't it don't.

SPEAKER_04

I'm gonna get we'll get Rodney to send him a picture, an unsolicited picture.

SPEAKER_06

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Well man, I know I know I know we've been on for about an hour. I didn't want to take up too much of your time. I just want to get on, chat a little bit, and go over to a Nyro Board Bash with you and tell you how much time or how much we thank you for letting us use the facility and we had a great time, hopefully do it again.

SPEAKER_05

And also just like I said, we're we we appreciated hosting it. I think it turned out great. All the food vendors loved it. So if y'all want us to do it again, we we're definitely we're definitely down for it. And plus it helped uh it helped us out with the hogs too.

SPEAKER_04

So we uh we I want to get you on just to talk about the old monk wildhall festival, the history of it a little bit and just hype it up a little bit. And I know I know everybody's time's busy. I'm in I'm actually just in the Lowe's parking lot, just got done looking in at some tile, and my wife went home already with the kiddos. And I am in the Lowe's parking lot doing a podcast and I'm gonna check that out. Um but I'll be home in a little bit with the kids. But anyways, I just want to say thank you, Dalton. It really means a lot. Thank you, Nathan, for uh everything. Thank you, Joey, and thank you, Carter, for your time, man. Uh it means a lot. Uh everybody's lots of hands that go in with this podcast up and uh the festival and all that jazz, and we can't thank well, we should thank all y'all.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, no doubt.

SPEAKER_05

We'll we're we're yeah, we'll yeah, we appreciate y'all sharing all our stuff, helping us out, getting it out there as much as possible.

SPEAKER_04

Well we appreciate anything else to say?

SPEAKER_03

No, man. I I'm I'm just uh I'm I'm just very appreciative. I look forward. Uh just uh but yeah, no, we got we got that coming up, and that's uh again, that's Mother's Day weekend uh Saturday before Mother's Day, so you may not some time with your mama. And uh so I mean uh we we we really looking forward to it. It's always a good time. And it if you got the means, man, by all means just come out because it's it it'll be a good time. You won't be disappointed that you can't. I'll just I'll just say that much.

SPEAKER_06

It's very good.

SPEAKER_03

We appreciate you and appreciate the city of Ivanville for uh keeping alive something that we love so much, you know, whether it's hosting our way in, doing the hog fest, the wild hog festival, whatever it is, we appreciate y'all. And uh we appreciate your mayor, your sheriffs, uh everybody involved with anything that has anything to go down with hog-related stuff. We appreciate y'all, and we appreciate you, man. I know that it's a lot of hard work for you, and you don't make no money off of it. And uh we we appreciate you and your team and everything that y'all do, man. It's it's a really it's a really bright spot for what we love. So uh we appreciate you, man.

SPEAKER_05

Yes, and Carter, and Carter, I'll have you a yellow shirt when you get there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, baby, give me a yellow shirt. Well, I might wear that thing all day so people can feel me.

SPEAKER_04

I ain't gonna lie, man. We uh when we were setting up everything for the for the weigh-in, and I was just up there doing, I turned around, and I saw a sheriff's truck pull in to the I started talking to people, and I was like, God damn it, they're gonna they're gonna shut this thing down or something. I already done got we got 23 teams, I got all this money to give out. Oh no. I thought they're gonna shut it down or say something about it, or call green. Like, I thought there was gonna be some discrepancy or something, and it ended up being good. Heck, the sheriff won a the sheriff won uh a shoulder mount from Fortner Captain Derby in the raffle.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah yes, he did. And and our mayor, and our mayor was there. He was that mayor was great guy.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that and that that's shout out Bruce Green. You're keeping traditions alive and keeping keeping away a way of life alive that a lot of people don't ever get to see. And that's that's and today those, that's awesome. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_03

Yep, that's what that's what we do it for.

SPEAKER_04

If this podcast comes out this week, I don't know if it is or not, I don't know when it has to go on the schedule. Um, I just want to say if y'all need to get ready for the Top of More Black Hall Festival, come to Park Banners Bay this weekend for the plot bay. They have the plot bay going on, and then they also have the uh open dog, so that means any dog bay going on, the one dollar thing. So y'all come up there to the oldest running uh bay up there in Hartlow, Georgia, if you got time as well. Mark and then do a great job and doing it for years, and uh like I said, you can put on a you can go up there and try to win that one and then get you warmed up for the overload festival.

SPEAKER_06

That's right, yes, sir.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, sir. Well, like I said, dog, we appreciate you, man. Thank you for your time and uh hope you have a good night, buddy. Yes, sir. Y'all too.

SPEAKER_06

All right, we'll see y'all. All right, buddy. Leave, Bill.

SPEAKER_01

All right, buddy. Y'all be good. Heck yeah. Yeah, man, that was a good one.

SPEAKER_04

That was a good little short one. I didn't I didn't have too many questions. I'm just I was just free balling the same.

SPEAKER_01

No, that's fine, man. That that's what me and Pat were talking about, the last one that we done, me and him.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, I told him, I was like, Pat, we don't have to do two hours. He's like, thank God. I was like, man, you know, sometimes it just rolls in and and that's fine. I said, but man, 45 minutes to an hour, I said, I I I think you get the you know, you're getting the cream of the crop.

SPEAKER_04

That's right. And I and I wanted to uh I don't I wanted to uh my damn headphones gotta go out. Sorry. My damn headphones wanna go out.

SPEAKER_01

Can you hear me? Yeah, I got you.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, no, I just wanted to pick his brain a little bit and and let's do something quick.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, I know the festival's a big deal and we we need it to we need it to be a big deal. After that deal. Oh shit at Earl's man. We we need some places to go.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, dude. Earl's a light, man.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Bad. Real bad. Yeah. And I mean it just you know, that's how that's how it is, you know, but at the same time, it's there's there's reasons why. And man, I get a lot of phone calls and stuff, and uh and a lot of it ain't my business, but I'm like, damn. You know, but that's how it goes.

SPEAKER_04

I forgot to ask in the damn uh inter money uh uh entries. I forgot to ask him.

SPEAKER_01

I'll uh whenever I see the the thing on it, I'll bring it up on the next one that that we do or whatever. I'll I'm gonna I'm gonna start pumping it up too for him on yeah on any of the episodes that we do. He he's always been good to us, you know.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, no, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Are y'all are y'all y'all coming to Hartwell this weekend?

SPEAKER_04

Uh God willing. God willing, I'll yeah, I know Carter is for sure uh uh McKenzie's going to actually an Ellerton right around the corner from Hartwell. She's going to uh a veterinary shot clinic for some dogs for if it was dependent on they don't gotta pay like a like a vet or a vet, what's it called? Consultation or whatever, they don't gotta pay a fee, they just get the shot for like five dollars.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_04

They're gonna like let those shots in uh Portacella and Raven's other. I think that's what they're giving out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I think we're gonna we're gonna try to hit I don't know if we're gonna be able to get there Friday night or if it's gonna be Saturday morning.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I mean that ain't no damn I mean because it's gonna be they're gonna be plot day into a damn before it hot, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh I know. I thought about bringing my little cur dogs and putting them in there. Those brindles, those brindle ones. No, I was gonna put them in a plot bay. Oh, hell yeah. Just to mess with because last year they kept saying, Well, those are plots. I was like, no, they're not. They can't be exploded. Remember them little beady puppies I brought? Yeah, yeah. Why didn't they come out with them? Them dudes are bad. I ain't lying. Like they I'm glad I kept them. They they take some powerhouses.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. You gonna bring you you gonna put any puppies in the puppy man?

SPEAKER_01

I've got a few. Uh I don't know. I gotta go back and look and make sure they're gonna be the right age, uh, or at least close to it, you know what I mean? I think I'm gonna bring some of my terriers, maybe. That'd be cool. I hadn't brought none in a long time, and I noticed the past couple of times. Mark's always had a terrier class, and uh you know, there's not really a bunch of people bringing them, so it's always Teresa or Kim, one of them winning it. And I mean, that's fine. I mean, I quit taking the the winnings years ago. Uh we were winning it all the time. But I had a terrier that was an actual that was an actual bay dog. And uh so it it was hard to beat him. Okay, it was hard, it was hard for a damn cur dog or any of them to beat him.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, Well, they're there's right now they're starting to hit their stride. I said, A lot of these bad dogs, they're like eight and ten years old. I said, Chaos and them are just now four coming four-year-old dogs, you know. Yeah. They were puppies when I first met y'all, and we've been knowing each other what about this be five years now. Yeah. Somewhere in there. So that's how old they were. They were 14 months old when I first bade them. So but anyway, uh they get they get out. Yeah, they get out, sure. Dude, and and the thing about it is like uh I don't uh I don't bay them a whole lot. You know, they I think uh I let Scott Lanier's boy bay him at the at the plot bay last year, and he got first place. Yeah uh for but that was a put you know the youth pay. And uh because I don't really bay him much. And so, but I'm gonna I'm gonna bring him and bae just to get him, just to get them to do something. We ain't got to hunt or nothing in two in about three weeks now. And I mean I owe it to the dog for him to work, you know. So but uh yeah, we'll good Lord willing, we'll see y'all there.
