So since 1982, one players champion has gone on to win the Masters in the same year. Do you have any guess who?
SPEAKER_02I'd probably guess Tiger Woods.
SPEAKER_00Of course. All these legendary stats are going to be Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods in guess what year? 1997. It's got to be the 01 year. Tiger Woods in 01 took down the players, and then four weeks later, took down the Masters. So Cam Young obviously just took down the players. What do we think of his chances in Augusta?
SPEAKER_02I think his chances are very good. He's always been the guy that people know he's going to pop off and just start winning tournaments. So for as good as he's playing, Augusta is on his radar. You can't grow golf if people are chunking it into the weeds all day.
SPEAKER_01Scratch player?
SPEAKER_00Hey everybody, it's Dez and welcome back to the Hack and Scratch podcast, episode number nine. We're almost to double digits. Casey, how are you doing?
SPEAKER_02I'm doing great. We are really in full swing mode in the the PGA tour and live and TGL. It's it's just gonna be a great couple months.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we're we're really in for something special. I think kicking off, you know, the the major part of the season with last week's players' championship and the way it unfolded, uh, I think it's time to buckle up. We're in for a good season, I think, is what that is saying.
SPEAKER_02Yep, definitely. And and what what an exciting players championship. What uh like as it kind of always is. Great tournament to watch, great finish overall, lots of drama, and just one of the tournaments where the entertainment value was very high. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I love that 17 was a factor. I think that is always something to like tip the cap to to sawgrass and to the players. Um that shot that Cam hit on 17 was ballsy. It was perfect. Uh, it was it was awesome. I know right now everyone's talking about that 375-yard drive on 18 as they should. Um, but damn, that that approach to uh to 17 was incredible.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and just overall, so calm and cool throughout the whole thing. You saw the wind just ripping across all of the course. And that destroyed a few players, but and it can easily destroy anybody. So the fact that Cam was able to keep his cool and finish it out at that caliber and still just play very well in those conditions, just super impressive. For sure.
SPEAKER_00So Cam cashes in at the players, wins at minus 13, a par on the 18th to win it, wins one over Fitzpatrick, who honestly had a valiant fight. Who really, I mean, give him credit, started the comeback. You know, maybe Oberg and everyone up top started to feel that. And so give Fitzy some credit there. Almost pulled off a at least a playoff run, but but couldn't do it. I came up with a bogey on the last after going into the pine. Sad story of the day, obviously, final pairing group did not have a stellar day. Oberg and and Thor did not have their stuff on Sunday. I really actually thought Oberg was gonna do it, which scared me because I had a bet after 36 holes that Oberg wasn't gonna do it. So I took a big bet that anybody would win except Oberg. I just didn't know if he had the stuff to close it. Luckily, I was I was right. I needed to collapse, sadly, on the back nine on Sunday. But thank you, Cam Young, who picked me up a little bit extra money this week. So that was good.
SPEAKER_02Definitely. Considering that final group did have a rough day, do you what do you make of that? Do you factor in the mental game? You know, two incredible players that were poised to probably lead the charge, but they just couldn't get it together. Do you think that's more mental?
SPEAKER_00I'm trying to remember if Oberg won on the final group at Tory for the Genesis. I'm really struggling to remember. I know Thor has never been in that situation really before uh in his professional career. So, you know, that's that's a tough thing. The the good news is like when you step into that, I think the people that quote like the more times you put yourself in those situations, the more normal they become. And I think as a competitor, that's that's what matters most is when that starts to feel normal, that's when you can really achieve something. And honestly, look at Cam Young. I know he wasn't in the final group, but had a shot at it. He has come close a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot. This is by far his biggest win ever. And what an amazing win. And while we talked about him having chances at Augusta, I don't think he gets it done at Augusta this year, but watch out for the PGA in the US Open because I think he bags one of those.
SPEAKER_02Wow. All right. You heard it here first. I I want to come back to that because that's a bold statement, but I I could see that happening as well. Yeah. There was a lot of there were a was a lot of good that came out of the players. One and and again, last thing on Cam Smith. Like the thing I love about the players, five-year exemption on the PGA tour if you win. I don't think we realize as fans like how valuable that is, and how some players fight to keep their tour card, and Cam Smith doesn't Cam Young, Cam Smith, Cam Young doesn't have to worry about that for five more years. Cam Smith definitely has to worry about that. Cam Smith does have to worry. You're right. But I just think that's so cool. I think that's a great perk of winning this tournament. So yeah, I was I was happy for him.
SPEAKER_00It's huge. It's financially huge, solidifies your career for the next five years. It's it's massive. We have nothing else really like it in sports, right? So there's no guarantee you're gonna get to play in the MLB for the next five years. If it was, that would be a huge thing. So pretty yeah, pretty special. Speaking of special, I think it's fantastic that me waking up from the nap that I just took on uh on a Saturday afternoon and Cam Young winning the players is about the same amount of emotion. It's a lot of kind of confusion, a little yawn, a little little excitement, maybe a little rise smile, but they're they're pretty equivalent, Mc.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just pretty stoic. And it's funny because everybody had kind of picked up on that in the in the interview. But hey, if that's it, was it his wife too that made the comment was of like this is exactly how I expected him to react or something like that? Yeah, pretty, pretty funny that those are one and the same for such a big event.
SPEAKER_00For sure. Yeah, I don't I don't think anything. I I now I almost it's a good strategy for him because now I definitely want to see him win the Masters to see if he gets any emotion. I mean, that's basically the only thing that could be pretty much greater than this, maybe a a writer cup away win. I hope he hope we get to see that. But uh yeah, I mean he needs to win the green jacket just so I can see if it really brings out the emotion. Yeah, definitely. That that would be fun to see. Nice. Well, anything before we move on to the live headline for the week.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, actually, a couple things that I noticed. One that just popped in my head, Justin Thomas played incredibly. And I thought that was such a big deal considering he played so poorly the week prior. So it was like, okay, Justin Thomas is getting his form back, which is great to see because those that were looking at him at the last week were probably a little bit concerned, but he had it all together and he he played great. So that was awesome. My favorite storyline of the week, though, was this rookie, and I'm going to try to pronounce his name correctly, Sudar Shaw Miraj. Yellow Miraju. Incredible. I have not stopped reading about this guy, and I absolutely love him. He basically has never taken a lesson. He learned to play golf from watching clips on YouTube. Amazing. And that is the type of stuff that I love to read about in golf. And it's why it makes golf so special. It's like you can't just jump into a tournament and go play for a baseball team or a basketball team. You know, there, there's there's a process. But he just worked his way up and hit uh posted the right scores at the right time to get in here and netted almost in a million dollar payday. It's incredible.
SPEAKER_00It's incredible. It it truly is a wow story. And uh yes, to to never have taken a golf lesson ever, you just have to imagine. Obviously, his drive and dedication are a huge part of it, but the natural talent of that guy is just dripping out of him. I mean, that's crazy to get at that level. And he was handling the pressure. You know, he had an incredible start to his round in Sunday, but then, you know, he had a little adversity, bounced right back, had some key birdies at the end to make a top 10.
SPEAKER_02Did yeah, just phenomenal. Yeah, that was by far, honestly, I'll say it, my favorite storyline so far of the year. I just think it's so cool. And it's one of those stories that makes you think you're just crazy enough that I could do that, you know? But he he's just got the talent. So that was really cool. And then the last thing, there is there's an Instagram account account that I follow that covers Monday qualifying. And it's also one of my favorite accounts to follow because they'll do some uh backstory reporting on some of these guys who are trying to Monday qualify. And that's actually how Cam Young got onto the PGA tour. He he didn't go through the traditional Q school and work his way up through there. He was able to make cuts in Monday qualifying and get earn his tour card that way. And there's been a lot of talk about just completely getting rid of all Monday qualifying forever. And I think that is a huge mistake. I love to see it because some guys don't have the money to just go through Q school, but they might have the talent to really rip everybody else on a Monday and get into the tournament on Thursday. So it's it worked for Cam Young, and it's gonna keep working for more players. So I hope they keep it.
SPEAKER_00That's incredible. Yeah. Hmm. We'll see with the the you know, the stage that winning the players allows. I wonder if he gets a little vocal about that. Um, maybe not, maybe, but we'll see.
SPEAKER_02We'll see.
SPEAKER_00All right. Well, we shift uh to live, and they are running a nice little string of big heavyweights and headliners winning. They have AK, then they have Rom. It's almost like it's staged. Uh, but it's uh yeah, they have AK, then Rom, and then Bryson. I mean, you couldn't script it better. Uh so Bryson uh takes down Singapore. He obviously didn't win uh the past couple weeks, came very, very, very close. Uh, but he wins in Singapore, wins in a playoff. Did you catch the final putt for poor Mr. Richard T. Lee?
SPEAKER_02I unfortunately did. And you could tell by the look on Bryson's face, he didn't want to win that way. And I don't blame him. It's tough to miss a putt like that when that was the biggest putt of his career. I would have liked to see it go to an extra hole.
SPEAKER_00Sure. Now, I don't follow it too closely, but Richard T. Lee, I believe, was a wild card for the tournament. So again, you talk about these come from, you know, out of nowhere stories. Richard T. Lee was very much one of those stories this week. And yes, you can see that it was a little bit of heartbreak, a little bit of bittersweet in in Bryson's eyes, as that putt just barely, I mean, I can't that can't have been for more than three feet, right? No, not really.
SPEAKER_01Brutal.
SPEAKER_00But nonetheless, gives way for Bryson's first win, individual win, I think for a couple at least, at least a year, maybe almost two years. So that that's that's important, and especially going into going into this uh next season, this this major season, which he'll be a very much a part of. I am one of those people who are rooting for Bryson to take down Augusta. You know, it means so much to him. I know he previously, in in his earlier version of Bryson DeChambeau, called it a pitch and putting. But um, I think he's come a long way from an individual development standpoint, and I know how much that course and and that tournament means to him. So I, you know, I'm rooting for him. So I love all this momentum. It feels like all this momentum is building, the storylines are starting to interweave and write itself just in time for the masters.
SPEAKER_02That's I would say that that take on him, you wanting him to win, is probably 50-50 with the rest of the public. I think it would be great if he won, but I think people have a lot of bitterness towards Bryson still because of all the live stuff. I think people were a little unhappy with how he talked about was it Rory in in at Augusta? Is that is that what I'm thinking? Him, him and Rory? And he said Rory didn't talk to him the whole time or something, and he was getting frustrated that he was like, hey man, I think Rory's just trying to bag his last remaining tournament. So, you know, people I think were a little bit bothered by that. But yeah, I I I would not be surprised if Bryson won. I'll say that. Sure. He has it.
SPEAKER_00Nice. All right, so we move on to TGL. We didn't have a match since the last time we recorded. However, it's playoffs, it's officially down to the last four. Who do you think takes it all?
SPEAKER_02I mean, I'm hoping my LA golf club takes it all. I really hope they do. But I mean, you know, Atlanta Drive, they got to beat them, and they've played well all season, of course. And then it's Jupiter Lynx first Boston Common, and then the winners of those will go head to head for for the final. So yeah, I'm rootman rooting for my LA golf club. My saw at the gala and Justin Rose, but we'll see. They got they got some good teams stacked up, stacked up against them.
SPEAKER_00One of the uh things that Cam attributed to his win and his confidence this week was TGL. Getting to play alongside Matt Fitzpatrick as a teammate in TGL said it made it very comfortable pairing and and kind of a fun thing for that day. So um shout out to TGL. Take note, players helps helps you in the real thing too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. I mean, I can definitely see how it would make you more comfortable after playing a much more relaxed style of golf with said person that you end up challenging on the final day. So yeah, it'll be fun. The TGL someboyer did announce that Tiger will not be playing with Jupiter Lynx tomorrow, which was kind of expected. I I don't think the first return to golf uh for Tiger Woods we're gonna see is gonna be at TGL. But there were a bunch of other rumors swirling as well, as his jet was spotted in Augusta um last week. So some people speculating that he's checking the course out, some people speculating that he was just there on business. Either way, it makes for some fun speculation. What do you think?
SPEAKER_00I oddly, man, he he almost shouldn't, but I think maybe he pulls it off. Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I kind of feel similarly.
SPEAKER_00Like I it it feels early. And I just he doesn't need to. He doesn't need to. He can he can play and and train and recover for for next year, but man, wouldn't that be something? Yeah, I don't know. So we'll see. What what's your what's your guess? Is he gonna play or is he not gonna play? I'm curious now what the prediction markets are saying. I go he doesn't play.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. I say he will. Pessimism. Nice optimism.
SPEAKER_01Classic battle.
SPEAKER_00All right, we'll see. I hope I hope I'm wrong. I hope you're right. Uh that'll be cool. Big week, not many videos, but big news in the golf YouTube uh space. We have a uh we have a first uh resignation from the Bob Das Sports crew, which I mean, man, if you could sign up to work for with any golf YouTube crew right now, I'm pretty sure it's Bob Does Sports. And one of their biggest kind of founding members, one of their one of the biggest pieces to their success, truly. I mean, it with production is is ticket, uh, aka Neil, aka uh gosh, pop. He has so many nicknames. So yeah, uh, huge farewell. I was just curious, did you see any of this?
SPEAKER_02I think I had just read something. I didn't see any other things around it, other than, you know, this makes me think of other groups like good, good and things like that. Bob does sports is big now. They're very big, they have a lot going on. It's not the kind of boutique, homegrown channel that it once was. And so with that, it brings a lot more responsibility, a lot more time, probably just a lot more work overall. So, you know, you can only keep that going for so long. So I I get it if he wants to move on to other things.
SPEAKER_00So I've watched all the announcements and all the videos around it, and it seems like it just boils down to personal life stuff. You know, he is entered in a serious relationship. He wants time to spend on that. Obviously, I can imagine that Obdo Sports takes up a lot of time, and especially if you're the one that has to go home after the golf and then edit the whole thing and and talk about production and all that stuff. So, you know, I I can imagine the burnout's pretty high. It's just so crazy to think you'd leave at the peak. Not maybe not the peak, but at least where it's been the peak. Um, and you could tell from all the announcements, everyone is genuinely shocked and maybe even a little angry about it. And so while they're not angry at Ticket, maybe they're angry at the situation. They probably disagree on his willingness to leave it. So yeah, it's it's kind of crazy. I mean, that that is the that is the golden crew right now, and uh a huge part of that team is leaving. Luckily, they have a great understudy person. It's almost like they've, you know, planned for this. They have a great understudy in production, and I'm sure Jensen will do well, but nonetheless, pretty big news. Pretty big news. Yeah, I'm sure their HR team has a whole succession plan, so they'll they'll be good. Yeah, gosh. Bob does sports with an HR team. I'll volunteer. Yeah, I just it's so funny to think that like really they started like four years ago. That's it. Four years ago. Yeah. And this built up this big of an empire. Pretty amazing. Other news in the YouTube space, uh, Grant Horvat had one of the more, I will say, and I love Grant Horvat stuff, one of the more cringier videos I've ever seen put out. Like, I actually had to stop the video maybe two or three times and then come back to it because I just couldn't get through it. Uh so out of character, but Grant decided to do a pranking golf video where he was gonna pretend to be a bad golfer, go to a couple PGA instructors and convince them that he was a bad golfer, and then just turn the switch to make them think that their lessons were really working. Just honestly, the whole thing seemed very out of place for for Grant to do. He was bad at it. He's bad at lying. He's he's a good person, he's bad at lying. And like one of the PGA professionals like just looked directly at the camera and was like, Oh, is this for a bit? And it's just it was rough. It was a really rough watch. I doubt we ever see any videos like this anymore, but hats off to trying new things, but I don't think it was working.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I agree with you. Especially I feel the same about Grant. He's just a good, genuine guy, and this wasn't his forte. And it was so funny because I think the thing that I'll criticize is that I think they underestimated the the coaches there. These guys have been coaching players for years. They know when you're screwing around or when you know what you're doing. And I think both of them had an idea that this kid knows what he's doing, at least somewhat. And then he just starts smoking drive. So you're like, okay. So I thought that was pretty funny. But yeah, I think he needed a better exit strategy to be like, oh, by the way, I'm a professional golfer.
SPEAKER_00No kidding, no kidding. So that was that video. Uh, Bob DeSports did put out a video against the Mets. So three members of the Mets organization. Pretty cool. I I do actually like these scrambles versus celebrities trope that that Bob DeSports has been doing. They pulled out a win with a huge asterisk against the Mets, but they did pull out a win. But I will just say Luke Weaver is a frickin' dog. That dude is good at golf. And not only is it good at golf, but you got a very little insight into what a major league competitive pitcher's mindset is like. I mean, it is it is a very heated competitive mindset and um just fascinating. I think pro athletes are some of the fascinate most fascinating minds to get into. That dude is a dog. Uh, and yeah, he he was carrying the team, absolutely carrying the team for for the Mets. Phenomenal golfer. I I hope I see him on the uh the ATT Pro Am or the one that Steph won a couple years ago, the the other uh amateur one that runs alongside. Um he's a solid golfer. So yeah. Uh anyways, did you did you catch any of that?
SPEAKER_02I did, and I I mean, I loved it. It was kind of like what you said. I loved that it was with athletes. So there was that competitive edge to it, and they they weren't messing around. They wanted to win because that's what they do. Yeah, like just some great golf. And I was like, oh my God, they're gonna take them. They're like Bob and this crew are not gonna be able to hold them off, but just a lot of missed putts that didn't go their way. But what I loved uh about it too is it was getting dark, and at the end, they they were finishing 15 and had to replay it basically in almost complete lights.
SPEAKER_00Like crazy.
SPEAKER_02And it's so funny because I think it really captured the moment because we've all been there when we're trying to scrape out that last hole when we you can't see a dang thing. And I'm like, I know this feeling where it's like it's much harder to play this way, but you just you gotta finish it. And so I'm I'm glad they did, but it was kind of a tough way to win. They could have made one of those putts, but it was it was a fun watch. I would love for them to do something like that again. Yeah. Um, I I Also, I would like to see some other teams though, because there are other golfers that are also athletes that could take them on. The first person that came to my mind when I was watching this Mets one was Mookie Betts. And he's a great golfer. And I know a few others on the Dodgers are, and I'm a huge Dodger fan, so I would love to see them do that. But like I'm thinking about all these other people, basketball players, that would absolutely jump on the opportunity to play with them. So I'm hoping that happens soon. One video that I did come across was the Taylor-made one from a few days ago is a three-hole showdown of Rory vs. Scotty, which I like this better than the one they did at Genesis because they were actually filming it like end to end, and you got to see them tee off when they were playing together and all that. But I was halfway through the video, and what I loved about it is we're watching the number one and the number two ranked golfer in the world just play in a friendly match, which like you don't get to see that in any other sports too often. And I just thought it was awesome. The conversation was great. The thing that stood out to me is they both seemed so relaxed and in their element, and especially Rory. You know, Rory's very serious. And when he's talking to the media, you know, people think he can come off as a bit abrasive. But when he's talking to Scotty, like it's just his bud and his competitor. And it was really cool because you really got to see him in his element, in the place where he feels comfortable. So these types of videos I love to watch just because it's the kind of more of the real world of what these guys are living, maybe when they're doing a practice round. So I love this type of stuff. And Scotty won the second hole, and Rory missed his butt to win the third hole. So technically, Scotty won that one and he whispered like and subscribe to the camera, which I thought was funny. So that is funny. Yeah, it was it was good. I think they're gonna keep doing these because they they seem to be doing pretty well.
SPEAKER_00YouTube golf content, I'm telling you, it's quality. That's that's uh that's awesome. I love Taylor Maid, I've said it a million times. Their social media, their digital media group is second to none. They are phenomenal. So this week we are going to Copperhead course at Innisbrook, which is the snake pit, which we talked about a few times the last couple weeks when we're talking about iconic stretches. Going to the snake pit, Hovlins defending his championship from last year. We got a pretty solid field. Not that this doesn't always have a great field, but you know, definitely a little bit of a recess from from players. And as it builds up to the Masters, you know, this doesn't always get the the field. So it's great to see Xanders in here, JT's trying to work himself back from injury, Cantley is in here, Kepka, another nice name to see on this, played quite well last week. And then Jordan, who's also coming alive as well. So really good. What do you think of this tournament and who do you think has a good shot this week?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, like I've said before, I the lot of things that I look at, even beyond the how the course is playing and how that is geared toward in each individual player, is I like to look at how they did the week prior. And Xander Shoffley has just been on the cusp of winning several times now. And I think his form looks so good. And so he's at the top of my list of taking this tournament. I just think he's playing consistently well and he's ready for his his next win. And that's kind of how I feel about Justin Thomas as well, based on how well he played at Sawgrass, being a difficult course in difficult conditions, is probably going to be somewhat similar. So if he can play the way that he did at Sawgrass, he would be just fine. And then the last one I was when I was looking through some of the stats was Lucas Glover, who I've always been a huge fan of. And he has done consistently well in this tournament almost every year and just better and better every year. Looks like he tied for fourth the last year. So I like also to see players who have done well at this specific location just because they seem to be a little bit more comfortable. They've played the course a few times. So yeah, those are my picks.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, honestly, if I didn't pick Billy Horschel for those same reasons of great history here, decent, recent form, uh, I probably would have picked Lucas Glover. So I put Billy Ho in there at a kind of long shot, uh, likes this track and you know has been playing decent. Oh, uh, that's my longest shot on the board. I took two middle tier stabs this week. Honestly, we shouldn't take my advice for any of this because my biggest wins are when I bet something after the first 36 holes. So clearly I have no idea what's gonna happen, but have a great sense of how it's gonna finish once it's started. But for the outrights this week, I'm looking at Ryo Hisatsune, who's been playing phenomenal for the first a little bit of the season here, uh, also likes this track, has had at least one really, really good finish here last year. And then Corey Connors, who's also been playing some solid golf, played some great golf uh past couple weeks, and also likes this track. So I'm a little bit coarse horse heavy this week, which is kind of interesting, but those are my kind of three stabs for the week. I like it.
SPEAKER_02I I feel like we've been somewhat off with our picks, but I I like what we've chosen this time. I'm I'm curious to see how it plays out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I told you I I faded uh Oberg after 36. It was tough because for one of my contests where you pick one golfer each week, can't repeat. I had Ludwig in there as the golfer that week. So I felt really smart picking him for the one and done, but uh, unfortunately, you know, he had to let go. But it's good. The betting win paid for all my entries for the one and done. So, you know, you take the take the wins where they come. All right. Well, hopefully we have a great tournament. We're seeing some great golf. I just get really excited this time in the season. Everything's like I said, all the storylines are building, the momentum's there. Um, and I can't wait to see what major season brings. All right. So as we move on, we haven't done uh a ton of these lately, but one of my favorite times or favorite parts of you know, master season coming is these limited releases targeted towards these special tournaments. And obviously with the masters leading off, we got our first Azalea Magnolia, whatever you want to call it, theme drop. Um, and we got it from Callaway's Chrome Tour Ball. They just released their Azalea Masters ball with the line being Azalea's. What do you think of these in general limited release drops for these special tournaments?
SPEAKER_02I generally love them. Like I always think they come up with something a little bit uh a little bit different every year. My favorite one in recent history was the tailor-made staff bags that they've done, which look very similar, honestly, to this color scheme and kind of the design, obviously. But little stuff like this too. Like I, if I had if I found this golf ball in the woods, I would keep it because I think that's cool. So I I kind of love stuff like this because it's temporary. We don't see it for too long, but it's just fun enough to make you want to buy something from it. What do you think?
SPEAKER_00I am such a poser because I seriously considered buying that frickin' Tailor-made Magnolia bag last year. I know exactly which one you're talking about. That staff bag that I have no business having. It was just perfect. Almost bought that one, and then I almost bought the Taylor made LA C C one from the a couple years ago with the sunset, uh like California sunset on the bag. That was that was another crazy moment. Almost pulled the trigger on that. No business having that. But yeah, so I love them. Any kind of cool design, anyone's creativity poured into these things, I love it. So yeah, big fan. Can't wait to see more. We're gonna see tons of Augusta themed releases in the next coming weeks. Going back to one who's got the easiest little trope design department right now, they're basically just taking every single, not even iconic, but every single look that Tiger has ever worn in the 90s and then redoing it just a little bit for the modern day. And I have to say, half our misses, half our hits. I love this one. It's an i it's it's an incredible shot of a young tiger in like 1990. So he can't be more than like 14 years old, rocking like jean shorts, almost like jean shorts, and then this striped polo, horizontal striped polo in like a really neon pink and blue. But yeah, Sunday Sunday Red just released this uh 1990s polo. Uh, what do you think of this whole kind of release scheme?
SPEAKER_02You know, you know what's so funny? Like the the first thing I think of when I see this is I think of the red and gray one, I think from Riviera. And I I absolutely love them. I don't know if I would ever wear it. Like I just think I I don't think I would pull it off. I might look out of place, feel out of place because it's kind of a busier shirt. Then again, love the hat, simple gray with the the blue rope, and then the very classy white shoes. Like the look is just awesome. But you're right, it's all just repeated stuff from the 90s. So it they they are just gonna, you know, go through his photo album and see what else he was wearing at that time. But design-wise, like I love it. And it does make me want to throw out my entire wardrobe and try to wear things a little bit more sophisticated, but I can't afford to even try it on to see if it'll work, you know what I mean? But yeah, I like it a lot. I'm just not sure if I would wear it. What about you?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So I'm I'm a player that believes uh look good, play good, even though it never works that way. So that's at least what I tell myself. But no, I I do like it, but would I wear it? Probably not. But I do I do like it. And I I do like that the 90s golf attire and aesthetic is coming back into focus. I think it's a golden age for sure for for golf and just golf culture. So I I'm I'm a big fan of it, just not something I'm I'm ready to pull off on the golf course yet. Yeah, makes sense. All right. Well, we are into our next part, which is some having some fun, doing some golf-related games. We got a great slate today. All right, so for the first game that we have today, it's off based off the news of Ticket leaving Bob D Sports. And it got me thinking, what the hell is Ticket gonna do now? He's got a huge, you know, milestone in his resume, about as good as a thing as you could have in the golf YouTube space. What the hell is he gonna do? And then I thought, well, you know, it won't happen. But if you had to recreate Bob Das Sports around Ticket, give him a whole new crew, face it, I guess in Philadelphia for his sake. Um, but if you had to recreate Bob Das Sports with those kind of archetypal uh figures, what would you do? So for this first game, we are drafting a new Bob Das Sports crew. And the rules are you have to have an FP style player, a solid golfer, Joey slot, an average golfer, uh, and Bob Slot, comic relief, and honestly, on the upswing golfer, and your editor is locked in as ticket. So we'll go back and forth. I'll let you start and then we'll snake it. Not that we'll have the same people, but uh there's no chance we'll have the same people. But being the gentleman, you you start first.
SPEAKER_02Okay, sounds good. Thank you. For the solid golfer, I'm going to take Steph Curry. He's he's competitive, he's solid. FP is kind of more reserved, and I think Steph probably is too on the golf course. Maybe not all the time. He gets pretty excited, but that's who I would want as my solid golfer.
SPEAKER_00I love that. Yes. I mean, as far as non-professional golfers go and non-like big YouTube names, Steph is an amazing guest, obviously, to have on a YouTube golf, but also just an incredible golfer. Fantastic selection. Always usually give you crap about the first selection. That's a good one. I am gonna go with someone who is lesser known, but who I really fell in love with during the internet invitational. And then more recently, now that he is a Bob Desports actual athlete, which is crazy, but I would have probably said this guy before, which is this guy named Mason Nutt. So he used to run uh co-run busted jack golf. Mason Nutt is a phenomenal player, honestly, very similar to FP in in playing quality, but also personality, a little bit you know, reserved, but can drop the one-liners, just seems like a really nice guy. So I went with Mason Nutt as my solid golfer. I like that one a lot. That's a good one. Yeah. So snaking around, I will take my average golfer. And my average golfer also runs a pretty notable YouTube channel, but most mostly you'd see him on TikTok, and you've probably seen him from all these like skits. He's a big guy involved with skits, but he runs the Bev Boys golf channel. Um, and his nick or his name is Nick Bonilla, really funny guy, but also a decent golfer, not a great golfer, not a horrible golfer, somewhere in the middle, really good knowledge of golf, I think, as well. And then um, yeah, I think you know, so much of what Bob does sports is like good chemistry. And I was trying to, I spent way too much time thinking about this, but I think chemistry would be there. So that's my average golfer.
SPEAKER_02That's a great one. I I like that one a lot too. Um, you're right though. We don't have any overlap yet, which is good. Okay, so for my average golfer now, I I'm having trouble finding his name. Pretty sure his name is Benji, but he is the guy from Instagram and YouTube from the Cheeky Golf Club.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Wasn't always the best golfer, but you know, they play golf every day until he gets 18 pars in a row, and they finally did it sometime last year. I think he's a great guy. He's a really nice guy to watch. He's funny and he's an averagely good golfer. The only difference is like, I think Joey has some haters. Nobody really hates this guy.
SPEAKER_00Oh, he's super likable. I love that guy. I you know, I didn't think about him when I was drafting, but he is definitely someone I would have drafted. That's a great pick.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I I remember seeing like one of their first Instagram reels that they ever posted. I was like, oh man, I'd want this guy's life if he's able to do this. Uh and then they just grew on me. And then they did it and they started doing new challenges. I'm like, this guy's cool. I'll watch him for a while.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. A lot of heartbreak on those par runs. Come down the last whole lipouts. It was brutal.
SPEAKER_02Definitely. Okay, so I'm moving on to my comic relief spot. Um, I went back and forth for a lot of these ones, but I think I'll have to go Adam Sandler going back to true comedy, true golf. True. And I just think, how much fun would that be to watch these three guys putting around a golf course, hitting, throwing darts and throwing darts at each other. You know, it's just I think that would be super fun.
SPEAKER_00Ticket would have his handful with that. Do you know how hard the editing would have to be on that? Oh my gosh, the one-liners being dropped. Oh, the commentary, that that would be a lot of work for Ticket, but it would make for some great entertainment. Definitely. So for my third pick, I really wanted to inject like a celebrity. Like, that's initially where I started. And then I just got too hung up on like the vibes aspect, and I just ended up sticking to like all YouTube golf, which is not the way I thought I was gonna go. This one is a little bit outside of YouTube golf, but related to Barstool sports. But I went PFT, another person who had to battle adversity in the internet, invitational being paired up with Luke Kwan and then getting it in the shins once Luke Kwan rejoined him. But you know, he battled, he played some okay golf the next day. And you know, I I he was one of those people that was just easy to root for and and pretty likable. And that's honestly what I think Bob's secret sauce is is he's just so likable. So yeah, I went with PFT.
SPEAKER_02Very solid choice. I think the YouTube gods would look fondly upon that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So those are our new Bob to Sports. If anything happens to them, God forbid, I don't want anything else to happen to that crew, but if God forbid, we got two solid options to replace to replace that slot in our hearts. So that's good. Um, all right. So this next one, pretty big, big topic. I think I've heard this brought up at least, I don't know, 10 times over the past couple years. Always a fascinating one. With the masters just around the corner, we are asking a very classic hypothetical, could you win the masters if? And I'm gonna run you through a couple scenarios in Casey. You just give me your quick, quick and dirty answer, yes or no. Could you win the masters if deal? Deal. Let's do it. All right. So could you win the masters if you start every hole a hundred yards out from the green? Yes. Coming out firing. Okay, I thought I was gonna get a no on that one. Okay, 100 yards out from the green.
SPEAKER_02I would think, yes. I would dang, now I'm rethinking it. But no, that was my answer. You I would have to score on par fives or else I'm done. Like there's there's just no way. If I'm not eagling every par five, I'm out. Like there's there's no way. I need to, I need to two-put every time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, even if you had a great eagle run on those par fives, you still got to get it done. The rest of the ones, the the things that are daunting is not getting that big of a head start on some of those par threes and then having to deal with those greens just as a pro does, those, those greens are tough.
SPEAKER_02I know. And I'm just thinking, I think, of hole three of where you know it's a shorter hole, but if you if you miss the green, even from a hundred yards out, you're good luck. You're you're back to the starting point, and now you're the worst golfer compared to everybody else. So yeah, no, I have confidence. I'm gonna I'm gonna roll with it.
SPEAKER_00That would have been a hard no for me. Okay, so this next one, you better answer yes. Start every hole from the farthest point on the green. Yes. Okay.
SPEAKER_02So by default, yes, I have to say.
SPEAKER_00Seeing Bob take down Grant that way, I think I I think even I could do that. So I would say yes.
SPEAKER_02Is that was that a video that they did?
SPEAKER_00Yes, that was a breaking Bob series where Bob started on the farthest point of the green and beat Grant handedly. Okay, good. Yeah. Um, all right. Could you win the masters if you play with coarse bumpers, meaning the ball cannot go out of bounds or in hazards, just ricochets off that invisible wall back into the field to play. Wow.
SPEAKER_02So hazards too. Water, are we calling bunkers hazards? Okay, I'm gonna say yes. Whoa.
SPEAKER_00Okay, okay, good, nice. I like it. I like it. Now you understand it is playing as long as it is. You just can't, you can't, okay.
SPEAKER_02I'm getting about 325 from my driver right now. I love it. I love it. I'm in good form.
SPEAKER_00This is an interesting one. I'm curious your take on this of how much it matters. Could you win the masters if the cup was four times the size of a normal cup? See, I'm gonna say no.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Because you that means I still need to be butting for birdie almost every hole, and that's just not reasonable. Yeah, yeah. No, for sure. If if you let me have the cup four times the size of the hole and I start on the farthest point from the green, yeah, I'm good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure. No combining these. Okay. So could you win the masters if all other players had to use kids' clubs, like the short, stubby kids' clubs?
SPEAKER_02I really don't think so, actually.
SPEAKER_00Good for you. You should go watch Bryson's video where he just tears up a course using these little Walmart kids' clubs.
SPEAKER_02I mean, yeah, like they they'll be able to get it, hit it straight, and just get it down there. And if that gives them an extra two strokes, a hole or something, that means I still need to be playing perfectly. So no, I don't think so.
SPEAKER_00And we haven't even talked about the mental side of this, like really putting yourself into the masters, like that is so crazy. Um, all right, this next one, tough one. Could you win the masters if each round you played with an 18-stroke handicap?
SPEAKER_02Was 18 the number that they estimated you would shoot over your handicap at Augusta?
SPEAKER_00No, but uh people who say like I've heard like a real hack golfer like shoot 90s and hundreds, they always say like 120, 125. So that's it's close. It's close.
SPEAKER_02So then like, yeah, then then no, because that means if I'm shooting like a 90, let's say, uh they're the rest of the players are shooting under par. Yeah. So no. I think just mathematically that won't work. Crazy.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, last one. Could you win the Masters if you get to play it as a scramble with me, your father-in-law, and the CEO of Urban Golf Performance?
SPEAKER_02Wow. This is very specific. I do know the CEO of UGP is a very highly skilled golfer and played college golf.
SPEAKER_00I have a feeling you're gonna rely on him a lot more than me and your father-in-law.
SPEAKER_02He would be carrying the team. My father-in-law would be looking for golf balls in the creek scramble. Yeah, I'm gonna say yeah, I think we can do it. Four people, four person scramble. I think we could do it. I really, truly think we could do it.
SPEAKER_00I think so too.
SPEAKER_02Somebody's got a hit.
SPEAKER_00You get you and the CEO of UGP getting two looks at all the putts. I think you guys got this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, I think we can do it.
SPEAKER_00All right. Well, shoot, now we just gotta figure out how to make that happen.
SPEAKER_02I know. Oh man, I want to hear if people disagree or not, because I think some of these are pretty reasonable. Some of them might be a stretch, but I think I got them pretty accurately.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, the one that surprised me the most about your answers was the coarse bumpers. I just didn't think that would have any effect at all. Uh, like the hazards, you know, only come up probably three or four times in a round for a professional. Not even not even I mean, not even. Yeah, that's the only one that really surprised me. The other ones, I like it. You're a confident, good golfer, it makes sense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I guess you did say that it can't go out of bounds. Doesn't mean you can't be in the trees, right? Right. True. True. So yeah, that's a good point. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, cool. That was fun. I really like that. Maybe we'll add some more and do some more of those before the Masters.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Love it. All right. This next game. Very easy trivia. Do you think you can name all the top money leaders for the last 20 years in golf? I can try. Let's do it. Go for it. I think I know one. It's a uh Mr. Tiger Woods. And I'm just gonna tell you after everyone you guess, he's had it four times in the last 20 years.
SPEAKER_02Okay. And so this is the season-long money list.
SPEAKER_00Yes, season-long money list since 2006.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Um, Tiger Woods, Scotty Scheffler. Also has it four times, which is surprising. I know. Four times already? Wow. Yes. Okay. Rory McElroy?
SPEAKER_00Yes, he has it two times.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So how how far back did you say?
SPEAKER_00Uh 20 years. So uh you got three out of 11. Got it.
SPEAKER_02But I've covered like 10 years worth already. True.
SPEAKER_00Going back, maybe like a Justin Thomas. Justin Thomas has it twice, unbelievably. Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh going back, Dustin Johnson.
SPEAKER_00Yes. He also has it twice. All right. You've knocked out the uh multiple-time winners. Now you only have single-time winners.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Probably in the same realm of Justin Thomas, uh, Jordan Spieth.
SPEAKER_00He only has it one time, 2015.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Trying to think other people like in the early 2020s. Probably like a Brooks Kepka. Yep. He has in 2019. Okay. Maybe the year before, year after that, Bryson DeChambeau. Does not have it. Really? Not at all. No. That's your first ex. You get three of them. Okay. Probably not Xander Shoffley, even though he had a couple really good years there. Um Patrick Reed? No, he does not.
SPEAKER_00That's your second ex.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Probably John Rom.
SPEAKER_00Yes. He does have a 2021 John Rom. Gotcha.
SPEAKER_02Um, I feel like I'm missing an old one now. Like probably.
SPEAKER_00These are 2008 to 2011.
SPEAKER_02Oh, wow. 2008, 2007. Not a John Daly. Maybe a VJ Singh.
SPEAKER_00That's an incredible pull. I can't believe he's on this list. 2008 VJ Singh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I I I know he's his like career money list is insane. Dang. I think that might be.
SPEAKER_00Clearly good enough to get him back on tour this year.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_02He used that exemption, didn't he? Yes. Dang. Okay. The other ones, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Shoot, Phil Mickelson. I know you would have thought that was on there. He is not. That's your third ex. These two are pretty hard. In 2010, it was Matt Couture. And then in 2011, it was Luke Donald. Okay. Good for that. Good for that. Good for that. I am shocked. Phil is not on that list. That is crazy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I guess just the it's the tale as old as time being under the Tiger's shadow. So true.
SPEAKER_00Very true. Well, you did really well there. Vijay Singh was an incredible pull. We got one game to go.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So this one kind of is is based on a personal experience that I had last week. I was playing golf. Yeah. I was playing golf here, and it was last Sunday. So it was daylight savings. We got an extra hour. So it's like, sweet. I can go book Twilight, know I can finish, and not have to pay as much money. So I think I paid 28, 30 bucks to play at uh, what, two or three o'clock, expecting my round to be about four hours and maybe four hours and 30 minutes. And it ended up, I ended up getting through nine holes right on the three hour mark. And I thought to myself, I'm done. I'm gonna go home. I just I couldn't do it anymore. And what was frustrating is I was playing really good golf. I was one under through eight, and then I triple bogeyed nine because we were standing on a par three tee for what felt like an hour. And so I thought, we need to solve this. We need to solve slow play. So I'm gonna give you some ideas that I've had, things that I've read, and you're gonna tell me, is this going to solve slow play or not? I like it. Okay. So my first one, and this is what I was taught growing up at my local par three when I was six years old. Mandatory triple bogey. When you get triple bogey on a hole, you pick up, you're done.
SPEAKER_00Sadly, I speak from experience. I do this and it does not solve soap. Okay, okay. So even on like a par five, if you've triple max, taking that snowman and rolling with it. No, no matter what. No. Okay. Cause it's the it's the seven shots you take to get to that eighth shot that you finally pick up that take the long time.
SPEAKER_02That's fair. That's fair. Okay, so I've seen this before, and I thought it was I'll share my thoughts about it afterwards, but time markers on scorecards. So each I've seen before on scorecards, it has the number of minutes that it should take on each hole. And you basically add that amount of time to your tea time, and that's where you should be on pace based on the hole. What do you think?
SPEAKER_00Great idea, poorly executed, because the worst golfers, sometimes, not always, are the most drunk golfers, and you're not going to be able to add seven holes worth of time onto your starting time after you're two transfusions deep. So, no, I do not think this solves slow play.
SPEAKER_02Totally agree. And I think you're right. Great idea in theory, but not enough to actually get it going.
SPEAKER_01Correct.
SPEAKER_02Okay, this next one. Marshall's on the course at all times, and they're tracking your pace based on your group tea time.
SPEAKER_00I feel like they are doing that. I played at what's that really nice course out? I played at one of the Laquinta country club courses on Palm Springs. It's freaking expensive. It's like$400,$300,$400 around. Dude, that Marshall was a Nazi. We were maybe at max 15 minutes behind pace, and he would just keep running by, keep running by. It got me so mad I almost said something and wanted to storm off the golf course and asked for my money back. It was it was that bad. So I will say, does this solve slow play? No, because we just kept playing around, even though we were a little bit behind. I mean, there's nothing we could do. We were waiting. So no, this this does not solve slow play. And I feel like they're doing that already.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I wonder how much plays into it if he's being such a jerk consistently. If you're like, well, now I'm not gonna play faster because you're making me upset.
SPEAKER_00Shout out to Mickey at La Quinta Golf Club. I'm I'm I'm calling you out. You gotta take a transfusion, Mickey. That's right.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so this one I've actually seen uh a lot more recently, either on the scorecard or on the first T. And it's basically a seven-iron chart. They put this chart in the ground on the first T saying uh a list of ranges of yardages based on how far you hit your seven iron. It says, How far do you hit your seven iron? And based on your distance, that's the T that you're assigned. So if I hit it between 170 and 180, I play the blues. If I hit it further, I play the blacks. What do you think about that?
SPEAKER_00I don't think that it would slow bait because it's not getting to the crux of who is slow playing, right? The the golfers who are trying to decide whether they play the blacks or the blues today are not the golfers you need to be worried about. It's the people that automatically go to the whites and are just gonna have a day. Those are the people you gotta worry about. So, no, cool concept. Never heard of this one, very cool concept, but yes, it does not no, it does not improve slope.
SPEAKER_02I also think, and I have been guilty of this, is that I played a much longer course last year. It was over 7,000 yards. And based on my seven iron, it was telling me to play the blues. I was like, I really want to play the tiffs. And so I could see that my own wanting to play the longer T, that's what others probably want to do. Okay, so this next one, require carts for everyone.
SPEAKER_00Again, it's not getting into the crux of who is slow playing. People who are walking, people who are taking a push cart, generally not the ones to slow the game down. So no, quick, quick, and easy one.
SPEAKER_02Okay. This next one I don't see as often as I used to when I was growing up, but yardage markers on all sprinkler heads. My thing is if I had this yardage, I wouldn't take the time to pull out my range finder. I would just hit it based on what I would do.
SPEAKER_00It does help. This one definitely does help. I just don't think it helps enough because now a lot of the golf carts have the yardage right in the cart. You step out, you don't need to shoot anything. It's right on the cart GPS, you're ready to go. And and some of those places, the nice places that have those carts, have five, five and a half hour rounds. So I would go no. Okay, so far we're not solving this. It's a hard problem. To be fair, it's a very hard problem to solve. And I think we're proving that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Okay, some of these are just things that I'm coming up with now. Okay, so absolutely no breakfast balls under any circumstance off the first off any T. No retees. No re-tees. It's a better way to say that.
SPEAKER_00It helps. It honestly helps. Yeah, it does help for sure. It does help. So we're talking lateral drop or drop by your friend. Yeah. Honestly, that would help. For sure that would help.
SPEAKER_02I think so too. Okay. If you hit your ball in the trees, you have to drop if you don't find it after searching for it for 60 seconds.
SPEAKER_00Ding ding ding. You have your winner. This is this would this would save America. Yes. 100%. This this helps a ton. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I I totally agree. I think this is one of the biggest things where they're like, I swear it was over here. Well, it's not.
SPEAKER_00Casey, here's how you implement it. That cart automatically starts moving after 60 seconds of being stopped by the trees. It just pulls over, you look for your ball, it starts counting down five, four, and it's just gonna start moving without you. That's that's how that's how you do it.
SPEAKER_02I think that's perfect. Okay, these last two are kind of crazy, but when I go to my local Muni, I have a player's card. So they can track me in their system. They can implement something. I'm a software engineer, so I can code this for them. That if they haven't watched this tutorial video on how to battle slow play, you cannot play that day. And they track each person's player's card.
SPEAKER_00I thought you were gonna say we're gonna start suspending golfers from playing courses if they play it too slow. This one, no, an intro video HR seminarslash pre-skydiving flight instructional video is not gonna improve slow.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Fair, fair enough, but I mean compliance training for golf. I'm gonna be clicking through the quiz just like I do for my work. That's true. No, you you watch them all the way through. I know you do. Okay. And this is my last suggestion, which I actually thought of years ago. So you have a button on each t-box, which when it press, when you press it, it starts a timer. And the timer doesn't stop until you press the button on the next T box. Okay. And so it tracks your time on each hole and reports back to the clubhouse. If you your pace is longer, you get charged more money at the end of the round.
SPEAKER_00Ding, ding, ding, rack it up. We can go home. This is gonna solve slow play. This is this is it. That's the winner. That that's it.
SPEAKER_02That's all it needs. I think that's basically speed golf in a very big brother type of way. I I think it could be a cool tech company that could be up and coming.
SPEAKER_00That is amazing. Now you missed my favorite one that I hope you're gonna put on here. Go for it. We replace the golf hat with the golf helmet. No waiting for golfers to clear. You just go right at that green. They're taking too long, you go right at them. Boom, hits their head, you're fine, you're wearing your golf helmet, not your golf hat, you're good to go.
SPEAKER_02We would be done in two hours. It'd be perfect.
SPEAKER_00It went ready. It went ready?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Amazing. And if you caught it, and if it was over 250 yards, you would break a world record. It seems like a win win. Yeah. Well, we've solved it. So now we gotta implement it.
SPEAKER_00All right. Well, that's gonna do it for us. Thank you for joining and see you next time.
