So the iconic prize in golf, the top prize in golf, started as a way to help people find the restroom. So at the Masters tournament, obviously this week, Rory got his second green jacket, but it was never even meant for champions. Do you know the origin of the green jacket? I have no idea. Okay. So Bobby Jones, the the founder of the co-founder of the club, saw captains, club captains, kind of like hosts, wearing jackets at the Royal Liverpool golf course so people could spot them and ask them questions, and they would just signify that they are members and captains at the place. So he saw that, loved it, brought it to Augusta National back in the 1930s. And early as I think 1937, members started wearing them to help identify themselves to the patrons to say, hey, the bathrooms this way, Pro Shop is this way, clubhouse this way, all this stuff. Um, and if you can only if you can believe it, it wasn't until 1949 that they decided to give one to the winner, and it suddenly became the most exclusive symbol in golf.

SPEAKER_01

That's so surprising because it's so simple. And we see Augusta National and a membership there as like just this elite thing, but it's like, nope, we're here to help. A local municipal golf course says it's been overrun by what some are calling quote golfers. Has the game grown too much? Do we need more scratch golfers? I'm telling you, hack slow the game down. You can't grow golf if people are choking it into the weeds all day.

SPEAKER_00

Scratch player?

SPEAKER_03

Hey everybody, it's Des and welcome back to the Hack and Scratch podcast, episode number 13. What a roller coaster this Master's Week turned out to be, ultimately ending in the place we probably thought it would get to on Friday night. But Casey, what are your thoughts on the week?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, uh another great, just entertaining, successful Master's week. I I really didn't think Rory was gonna hold on to it after those first couple days. You know, he was wavering a little bit, and I thought Cam Young was just barreling down and kind of ready to take care of it. And I was pulling for from my boy Justin Rose to finally get his jacket. And, you know, it didn't happen that way, but I'm still super impressed with Rory to be able to go back to back. Everybody saw last year as him completing the career grand slam. And then I think he made a comment a couple months ago that he's not done yet and he wants to accomplish other things. And this is another, you know, record that he's setting, which is pretty cool.

SPEAKER_03

I loved Fred's comment. I think on I think it was after Thursday's round of play, but he goes, he might never lose another one of these again. And, you know, until the collapse and you were like, oh, well, maybe the pressure has moved from winning one to now getting into this extra elite group of people who have won it back to back, and maybe that pressure will get to him. Now there's no pressure. There's no there's no pressure. If you thought he was playing freely this year, wait till he plays next year. It's gonna be crazy. I I really don't know. Between him and him and Scotty, I don't know if we're ever gonna get another champion for at least maybe three to four years. I I really uh I would bet on it.

SPEAKER_01

Wow. And you know, I I think some people struggle with that. I don't think they love that idea. I think they want to see somebody else. I saw a lot of comments on social media this week of like, of course he won. He's been playing the course for the past two weeks. And I'm like, I get what they're saying, but that doesn't change the difficulty of the course. You know, I don't totally buy it.

SPEAKER_03

Shout out to Kevin Kisner and the people at uh foreplay because he came out and was like, this storyline is horrible. If you think he has an unfair advantage, you're completely wrong. Kevin Kisner, who obviously amazing golfer, but doesn't have, you know, the access that Rory McElroy would seemingly have, he said he would play it 10 times a year leading up to the masters, maybe not all in a month's span. But you know, he's like, Rory's not living at the course, he just can easily get there because of his location. But as soon as you get your master's invite, as soon as you get it, you are allowed to book rounds with members. So as soon as you get your invite, you can call up and you can say, Hey, I would love to go out. Is there a member available to take me out? And even Rory, when he plays, he doesn't play by himself, he doesn't spend hours on hours with his caddy and and practicing chip shots. He just plays the course with a member. So I think people blew that story out of proportion. I'm surprised Rory said it, but I think people are blowing it way out of proportion.

SPEAKER_01

I think that makes sense. And I wish I didn't totally know that that once you have your invite, you can go there, get a feel of the the course and all that, which I think needs to be publicized more because then I think people would say, Oh, yeah, this is a non-issue. So I like that.

SPEAKER_03

I think it is funny that you do have to play it with a member, though. I mean, I know I know that's a rule and has come up a bunch of times, but I just love the fact that like even Tyre Woods has to play with a member. It's just so funny. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. One thing that I I heard somebody talking about specifically about Justin Rose was like people want him to win so bad. Like, especially the folks like you and me who have been watching this tournament for years know how close he's been, like almost every year. And somebody said it perfectly. They said they should at least invite him to the drinks before before the round starts, you know, like their drink ceremony. I'm like, well, no, that's still like an exclusive club, but I agree. Like, I want to see him there. So I hope we do get to see that.

SPEAKER_03

Well, him and Rory crashed the uh the dinner last year on Tuesday. You know, maybe he just needs to do that again next year and he'll find himself in a green jacket. I really, I felt myself getting mad that Rose wasn't winning. Like I was like, oh, he's so close. Please don't mess this up. And then some unfortunate short putt misses and just tiny misses on the back nine, a couple bogeys back to back, really killed him. But uh it was fun. I I have to say, I had bets live on all Rory, Cam, and Rose. And so that was a fantastic place to be in come Sunday, is I was just rooting for some good golf and um I got it. And it was an incredible day.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, definitely. What are some of your other highlights or takeaways of things that you you enjoyed from the weekend or the so I do have a little bit of a spicy take.

SPEAKER_03

All right. Okay, let's hear it. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Hao Tong Lee humor. Okay, I think he is so funny, I think he's very real. But let me say this with utmost certainty if roar if Scotty is playing with anybody but how tong on Sunday, he wins that thing outright in regulation. I think you're right. Are you saying he was just too distracting? You cannot play your best golf when someone's shooting a 10 and takes 20 minutes to find a ball. He had Scotty had to walk up to the green three separate times from his chip because he had nothing else to do. And Hao Tong was just like that. He wasn't intentionally doing it, nothing like that. But I truly believe if he's playing with anybody but Hao Tong, he takes that thing home on Sunday.

SPEAKER_01

I get what you mean, because I mean, not comparing my skill level to Scotty and then playing with, you know, some random guys on the weekend at my local course. Yeah, but there are times where it grates on me. I'm like, oh man, I've been standing here forever and they've been looking at their ball, but I'm not playing in a competition, you know? And so to me, I'm just annoyed. I wonder if Scotty's experience like allows him to not think about that, or the side of it of like, come on, man, this is a major championship. We got to get it together. I see both kind of both angles to it. Either way, I'm sure he would prefer to not have to wait five minutes to hit a shot. So I I get what you're saying.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I um I think based on that clip I saw on Saturday of Scotty, he definitely has a little bite, little edge to him. Feels like he probably should have done better this week. So I do think maybe come Sunday that was reeling up and and he was feeling it. Shout out to Scotty. He never mentioned it once, never said anything about bad playing partner or anything like that, which you know you'd never expect him to, but I truly never will. I think he would have shot maybe six, seven under come Sunday if he uh if he played with anyone else. But it wasn't to be. The golf cods decided Rory's gonna get his second jacket. I am sure that Scotty will have his chance to go not only win another one, but probably back to back in in similar years or similar ways. So, you know, I'm sure they will reward Scotty in the end. But it was it was a wonderful tournament. I thought it was great that that Amen Corner decided really the tournament. I mean, you rarely ever see that where the birdie on 12 makes the difference. You always see it as where the double bogey makes the difference and someone loses. It was incredible to see Rory hit that shot. I think that's the one shot people will replay for years is that that just ball right at the flag on 12 on Sunday.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it reminds me a lot of Tiger Woods' shot in 2019 on 12. Like it was kind of almost the same exact thing. And to see that again, it was like, man, he's he's in control here. So that was a cool moment.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Sergio, we got to talk about it. What the hell was going on with Sergio? I mean, it was bad. It was, it was, I I almost that was one of the first clips I saw and was like, aye, someone, there's no way. I didn't I didn't see that live on the broadcast. I was like, there's no way. That can't be real. And then to see him carrying Rom's bag, don't know why he decided to do that. I guess it was out of class, which I mean, very nice move. But at that time, I think his mind was just swirling and spinning. I cannot believe he swung a driver at a bench.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, that's crazy. Yeah. It was not a good look, especially considering Liv didn't have a good week, and you kind of want representation among your colleagues to say, hey, no, we we deserve to be here and all this. Kind of surprising, too, from a past winner. Like, what are you doing? You know, in my mind, but we've always known this about Sergio. He runs hot, he always has, especially when he gets into big competitions, like we saw it a lot with Tiger. Yeah, it was kind of frustrating and annoying. I'm just like, come on, man. Like you, you're not my favorite player, but don't make me really not like you. Sure. I don't think people were happy with that at all.

SPEAKER_03

No, I I mean, obviously, it's the craziest thing. Anyone else probably get like a ban or sub suspension from Augusta? Obviously, being a champion, I'm sure they can't do anything about it. Um, but not a good look. Hopefully, hopefully he feels a little remorse about it. Um so we'll we'll see. Um, but the last thing I'll say about the tournament, what a beautiful moment on 18 to see Rory's dad. Again, the father-son embrace, the family being there this year. His mom and dad were not there last year for for the final day, and getting to see him this year and that embrace, that was that was really cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that was one of the the best moments from that that ceremony and all that. Uh especially after watching, I don't know, did you catch the Rory documentary that came out like two weeks ago? I I saw the one, so there was two.

SPEAKER_03

I saw the one that, yeah, the one that came out on Netflix, I did watch, but I think there was one that ran right before the Masters that was maybe different. And I guess that must be different then. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the one I watched was on Amazon Prime and it was basically it wasn't on Netflix, it was Prime.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay. Yeah, it it was an incredible documentary as well. I thought it was so well done, but we really got to know his parents. And I was thinking the whole time, like, wow, I can't believe they didn't get to be there to see this. Yeah. And but you're right, like that for them to be there this time and for him to still to win again just like made it that much sweeter. And uh shout out to the photographers, uh, aka maybe Ken Griffey Jr. You know, there's a photo of Rory's mom sitting at the ceremony, or maybe on the the 18th green, and she has a bag, and the bag is made out of uh his front page cover of winning the career grand slam from last year. And I'm like, that is so cool. Like, what a cool family, what a beautiful story. Just I love it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it's really good. The documentary will really make you a fan of that whole family and the sacrifice it took to put Rory in that position. And it's just awesome. It's it's a great story. So hey, you you can't script them like this. They're just so good. The masters do such an incredible job at highlighting these wonderful stories. I guess that would be the only thing that we didn't really get this year was like kind of a no-namer coming out of nowhere and being in the hunt and getting the backstory there. But other than that, I mean, phenomenal production this year, and I just cannot wait for the next masters. Hopefully, we're there. Hopefully, we somehow get there. Okay. I love it. Yeah, put it on the mood board. It seems crazy to switch topics from from uh masters, but YouTube golf had a very quiet week, and I think intentionally so, even though, you know, we were doing quite well on the socials and tried to run, you know, ride the wave of the masters. The the uh the legends in the business of the YouTube golf uh took a week off. They didn't they didn't post too much, kind of kept quiet. It makes sense, you know, everyone's focused on the masters, but there were three videos I want to talk about. So Grant Horvat had Justin Rose on for the one-on-one competition where he starts five strokes ahead, so starts at five under and sees if Rose can catch him. It was a great I mean, gosh, if I mean Justin Rose is just all class, like he's just such a nice person, so down-to-earth, really great. And the conversation between him and Grant was phenomenal throughout the round. Grant did have his highlight, it's his first hole in one on camera. The only part that was kind of funny is I think almost anyone else you have on the channel probably gets a little bit more excited than Justin. It was he was like really nice about it, but you could tell that Grant was like, man, I really wanted that moment of like running down the fairway, chasing after my ball, going crazy, you know, a chest bump, something insane to signify the moment. And you know, Justin Rose was like, Oh man, that's a great moment, like happy for you, and then just like kind of daffed him up. And I was like, Oh, I bet, I bet Grant is just itching to just like lose his mind right now. But in front of all class Justin Rose, he's keeping it together.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was pretty cool. It's so different than uh probably what he was expecting to run down the the fairway with Bobby Berger and Fat Perez uh just screaming and throwing habitats. So he'll get there though. He'll get one.

SPEAKER_03

He definitely wanted it. I guess the internet is on fire with theories that he mentioned that he does have another hole in one, but he can't talk about it. And there's been long time speculation that him and the Brian Bros somehow got on to film at Augusta. Um and one of the biggest theories right now because there's a clip of George going, Oh, I left my glove at or I left my towel at Ug and the camera just cuts it off. It's like he's just about to say Augusta before it cuts it off. But we'll see. It could be all very well-planned conjecture leading up to them playing at the Augusta Municipal and the patch. So we'll see. We'll see.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, that or you heard Fred Ridley to say we shouldn't have let Dude Perfect come on here, you know. So maybe they did let them go on and film to realize never mind this dude perfect thing didn't work out too well.

SPEAKER_03

So I did not I did not love seeing that. I'll be honest, I felt like such a boomer being like, I'm not really a big fan of Frisbee's flying down A-Men Corner right now. Yeah, feels weird. Feels weird. Kind of takes a little bit off.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, well, if you had to guess, let's say they played Augusto, where did he get his hole in one, you think?

SPEAKER_03

On 16. 16? I would say they have Sunday pins and he spun one back in the 16. Yeah. I feel like that's kind of the only one. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see. Or we may never see. I don't know. We may not. Yeah. We may never see. Augusta might, you know, just can that as soon as the dude perfect people have uh gotten some major flack for it. So yeah. We may never see. But who knows? Trent uh from Fort Play had to break 85, didn't quite do it, but honestly played some great golf. Did his best yet, and I think he probably will break 85 coming up pretty soon. You asked the frequency in which they're doing these, and it seems like they're doing way more frequent than like the once a month they were previously doing, which I I think is probably the way to do it, right? So it didn't quite do it, but it had some good moments. The latest video that kicked off are people are doing series now where it's like one part, two part, three part on people's different channels. So the Brian Bros started off with nine holes on their channel, but it's man, I'm gonna forget the people. It's Ryan Ruffles, great Australian golfer who was kind of premiere amateur um a few years ago. Jason Day, who's obviously a great Australian golfer, and then a non-Australian, his name is oh man. I'm totally blanking right now, but damn, I I can't remember his name. But he he he what it was great is he oh, it's uh Evans. Something Evans, but he is a phenomenal personality. Like if I could if I could invest, now I know he's a professional golfer and he probably won't he probably won't take the YouTube, but if I could invest in a person becoming famous on YouTube golf, it would be this guy. He is like one of the funniest personalities, naturally funny, big body guy. So like just physical comedy about it. It's he's just so funny and had great rapport. And and then another guy names Bats, I believe. I don't know who he is, but it was yeah, great nine-hole competition. It's basically pros. Um, and yeah, uh, I think Grant is tied with Jason Day and Wesley is in third. Nice. So yeah, we'll see how this progresses, but but great, great video so far. Loved it. Um, very, very competitive scramble golf. So nice.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I love the idea of doing series stuff. Like I like the breaking 85 or all that, and it makes me want to do it personally. I would love to do a breaking 70 again, but I I like that idea of keeping them like coming back or making it part of a larger, larger you know, production. That's cool.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. I know we're doing stuff behind the camera this way, but I know you have the itch to get out and film some some on-the-course golf. So we'll make it happen eventually.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we need a we need a videographer or someone because I I can't do it on my own. That's right.

SPEAKER_00

That's right.

SPEAKER_03

Well, like I said, it was a quiet week on the YouTube golf scene, but um, some good videos to go check out. We do have a new tournament coming up this week. Uh, it's always kind of the forgotten jacket that people forget about. And uh it's the RBC Heritage. I say the forgotten jacket because the winner also takes home a jacket of sorts, except this one is in tartan plaid. So it sticks out like a sore thumb, not as prestigious as the Augusta National green jacket, but a jacket nonetheless. Hilariously enough, Wesley Bryan, also a winner at RBC Heritage. I think it's his one win at on the tour, but a course that requires just kind of all around game to kind of sync up. It's not really uh a bomber's course, although bombers have won it in the past. So yeah, I think Justin Thomas won it last year, but we'll see who wins it this year. Um, a pretty decent field to follow up the Masters. So who do you like this week?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, this is always such an interesting tournament because the guys are prepping for the majors, right? Like they want to be in top form at the Masters, and you know, the guys that do well at the Masters typically play well in this tournament the week after because they've figured out whatever it is that they need. So the first person I have is Patrick Cantley, uh, one, because he actually played pretty well, and he always does play pretty well at Augusta. So I, you know, he's had some some good rounds at this tournament in the past. And I think he's probably one of the top-ranked people at this course or for this tournament in the past. So he's my first one. Jordan Spief as well. You know, he's won it before. He knows what he's doing here. Also had a pretty good week last week for all intents and purposes. And lastly, Siwuk Siwoo Kim, who honestly I actually don't know how he did last week. But again, I feel like I've been picking SiWu Kim every other week, and he always does good on the weeks that I don't pick him. So I'm picking him again in hopes that he does do well.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So we'll see. I can't even believe we have consensus on Cantley. I mean, I am a person that would never waste money like that in in my life, hasn't won in a fortnight. So I am shocked that we're both on him, but I just feel like it's a weird time for like comeback headlines, and there would be no better. One right now, maybe than Cantley, who hasn't won in a very, very long time, uh, but found some form for sure last week. Going to a very couple uh a place he feels very comfortable at uh at the RBC. And I yeah, I think he's primed to do very well. Uh I would say that I will try to find the best number possible, but I want some money on Scotty this week. I just think I think he's probably getting like a little bit frustrated getting so close. Uh, there's no question his weekend was anything short of phenomenal. And if he just even barely continues that into this week, it's it's game over. So well, and is Hao Tong Lee playing? Exactly. I will probably take Scotty to win by like a pretty large margin, and that's how I'll get some decent odds. So I might do like a Scotty, like yeah, three better than the field. So we'll see. But I I really, yeah, I I rarely put money on such chalky things like Scotty, but this week I think is good. And then I'm gonna take one more stab closer to the Cantley range, which is Maverick McNeely. He had some great golf last week as well, likes RBC Heritage. I think it fits for him. He's his game's been shaping up. So I'll I'll throw a little sprinkle on on Maverick at much higher odds. But uh yeah, those are my three this week. Nice, like it. And thanks to the masters, I have a little extra cash to splash. Um there you go. That'll be nice. Uh yeah. Continuing to talk about the masters, we're I promised next week we're gonna drop it, but this last week. No, let's run it back. Let's keep talking about it. We're gonna go to a different segment of the Pro Shop drop, but we're gonna give out awards. So I'm giving out awards to the best merch that we saw throughout the masters season. So here are the categories. First is the best on-property apparel. I thought it was pretty bad this year. It definitely seemed a little bit more just like let's throw everything we can at it, let's give them all different designs. So I didn't have a ton that I like to pick from. Honorable mention would have been the tech puffer. I thought was good. I know finance bros are gonna go crazy after that one. But the one I really liked was actually a women's sweater. I just love the design. It was a rope kind of cursive embroidery of the master's tournament logo, and it looked great. It looked fantastic. I think it was very emblematic of the masters, and it's a little bit classier with the embroidery. So that's that's the number one item that stuck out to me after seeing all these. I mean, maybe you saw on social media, but these master halls were like every other one of my scrolls. It was crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. No, I think this is a great pick. Very simple. I think some of the things that bothers that bothers me about some of the masters merch is we're trying to do too much. And to be honest, like I'm not a huge fan of just the egg salad hat. Like, all right, you know, I like this. It's classy. My wife would wear it, and it looks comfy. So yeah, I like it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I agree. The number one talked about item besides the gnomes by far and away was the mahjong set. Now, this was only available in Berkman's, the clubhouse. Um, so you had to be the elite of the elite to get this. And I think they only had about a hundred a day. I think the resale value on these on eBay right now are $4,000. And I only think the set was $200. So I, yeah, I don't, yeah, I'm pretty sure it was like that's yeah, quite a markup to $4,000. Um really cool design. I will say, like, knocked it out of the park. Uh, I am not a mahjong player, but I do know that they freaking nailed their target audience. I hate to say this, but every trad wife in the world right now is playing Mahjong on Thursday nights in the South. It has just become a huge, huge thing in the South right now to hold Mahjong parties, and this is gonna be the desire of every single housewife in the southern area of this world. So, yeah, shoutouts to them. They nailed their target audience there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this is perfect. And I love Mahjong, it's a great game. My sister-in-law taught me. Oh, yeah, we've we've played my sister-in-law plays uh with some friends uh where they live, and she taught us a couple years ago. I love it. I just I think it's awesome. And to if I were to be able to play with this set, that would be awesome too. Well, sorry, you're not getting it.

SPEAKER_03

No, don't don't even think about birthday, Christmas. It's not coming. I'll promise you that.

SPEAKER_01

I think it would be cheaper for me to create my own knockoff version than to try to buy an original one. But it was such a cool idea.

SPEAKER_03

It looks great. The graphics they use look phenomenal. Yeah, it's great. Perfect. All right. This next category is the best bag for the season opener trend. And, you know, ghost golf put out a crazy one, highly detailed. I just you you brought up the point earlier, just too much emphasis on the ghost golf part. The logo was way too big. I like the staff bags this year. I actually probably would have given the staff bag to Strixon. Um, they Strixon just put together a really nice simple bag with some some details. I thought, I thought um Taylor Maids was maybe a little too over the top, but I gave the the award to the vessel, a season opener bag. And it's a stand bag, it's not even a staff bag, but it just clean, nice, subtle nods. Uh, the zipper poles are like emblematic of the Augusta flags, gator style leather on on the main bag itself. Just just seemed to be like a really nice, simplistic design with nods to Augusta. So I loved it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's a great bag. Totally my style. Like I've mentioned before, the Ghost Golf, trying to do too much and throwing the logo on there. Vessel knows that they don't have to do that and that they just need to create a very sleek, simple design. Throw the vessel name somewhere and looks like this is just the like above the pocket there. It's perfect. And I I like when they make things just very classy like that. So not surprised that Vessel has perfected this bag.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Now, the best equipment, I actually gave it to a a probably uh a low or long shot here. Um wasn't clubs, wasn't wedges, wasn't anything like that. Uh it was the Fuky Jura uh pimento shafts in uh Augusta Green with the pimento sandwich on it. I don't normally fall for like gimmicky stuff like this, but I just thought I had never seen shafts like this. Um, I think it's pretty cool. And honestly, Fujijura is like one of the premier kind of custom shaft makers in the industry. So it's a quality shaft. It's not like just garbage, it's the the the ventus shafts, which everyone knows about. But yeah, with a with a not as not so subtle nod to the pimento cheese sandwich, but I thought it was great.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, I love it. I have the Fujikura Ventus Blue, I think, and it's just the best shaft. But uh what I love about the one that I'm looking at right now is it's a 6X, which like that's a pro shaft right there. That is not a senior flex. So they really made it seem like the pros are really using this, which they're probably not, but very cool indeed.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, definitely. Best shoe was like an easy one for me this year. I just thought they nailed it and they didn't go heavy on like the azaleas or like the flower. Well, they did go floral, but the azaleas specifically, a lot of people try to infuse a lot of pink or or you know, heavy on the green. They actually went with a classic white shoe with a subtle nod on the the sole of it. So the Sunday Red Pioneer Willows have more of a kind of yellow feel to the Augusta yellow feel to it. And uh yeah, I just thought it's very clean-looking shoe, doesn't like scream over the top scream Augusta, but very cool nods. So I gotta give it to Sunday Red for that one.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, I like it too, and I could afford probably a quarter of one of those shoes. Yeah, exactly. The spike, the the front lift spike.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. All right. Well, that was the uh that was a pro shop drop, wrapped up the merch for season opener for the masters. Yeah, I I think uh this is only a segment that's gonna grow and grow and grow. And so I'm excited to see what they come up with next year.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. I'm gonna miss talking about the masters. I feel like we've been talking about it for a couple weeks and like we have to wave goodbye until next year.

SPEAKER_03

But we got some I think especially this year, the lineup is great. AaronMink and then um Shinnecock. I think those two are our fantastic um venues for the PGA in the US Open. Um, and so yeah, I think we we have a couple great things to keep us occupied going forward, but always uh a little post-Christmas feeling to get past the Masters and think you gotta wait another 361 days uh to get back to the start of it. Yep, definitely. Alrighty, we got our games today. We're gonna start off with a new segment for us, and I think I think it's gonna be one of our more popular ones going forward. So this game is called Okay, I'll switch. I'm gonna give you two items, and you're gonna pick one, and then I'm gonna keep adding items to the thing you don't pick until you are willing to switch. Are you ready? I got it. Yeah, let's do it. All right. You can either win the Masters or the RBC Heritage. Which one are you going?

SPEAKER_01

I really do want to know if someone would pick RBC Heritage over this. No one would ever pick RBC Heritage. I know, but I want if somebody does, I want to know your reasoning. I respect your decision. You're wrong, but I respect your decision, so I choose the masters.

SPEAKER_03

All right, great. So adding to the RBC Heritage win, you're gonna win the RBC Heritage plus the ATT Pebble Beach. Are you switching yet?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you're stacking it. I see. Win the ATT Pebble Beach? No, I'm still gonna say no. I'm gonna say no. Okay. So this next one, I'm gonna add the Genesis. See, now you're just trying to get to me directly. I'm guessing the Genesis is at Riviera. Yeah, not at Tori Pi. Right. No. No. I still I'd still want to win the Masters. It's the Masters. It's the Masters. I want to choose my champion's dinner.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Immortalized forever.

SPEAKER_03

Think about it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Um, we're gonna add the Ryder a Ryder Cup win.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, dang.

SPEAKER_01

We might be cutting this short because I would say, yeah, I'd I'd want to win the Ryder Cup. Wow.

SPEAKER_03

You you would trade you would trade a master's win for the RBC, the ATT Pebble Beach, Genesis, and the Ryder Cup.

SPEAKER_01

The right I would choose it for the Ryder Cup if it was in the U.S. A home rider cup. Home Ryder Cup, yes.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Final answer. But I then I I still don't have a major championship though, do I? No. And you'll never get one. Okay, no.

SPEAKER_03

No. I I I want a major championship. Good. Be selfish. I like it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. All right.

SPEAKER_03

I'm selfish. Well, you have your first opportunity. You win all that plus the open championship.

SPEAKER_01

See, okay. I know people are gonna hate this, but the open champ open championship is not second to the masters for me, I don't believe.

SPEAKER_03

Amazing.

SPEAKER_01

So I'm gonna say no. Okay. But I'd still choose the masters.

SPEAKER_03

Wow.

SPEAKER_01

But I have a feeling what's coming next, so that might sway my decision. Are we gonna knock these out? The U.S. Open. Okay, so I win the U.S. Open and everything you said before instead of the Masters. I will take that because I've now won the Open Championship and the US Open. Two different parts of the world. I'm I have two majors. I'll take all those over. And I have my Ryder Cup win.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. You're an elite level golfer. You you are knocking on the door of the Hall of Fame. And you obviously, with all these major wins, you've guaranteed yourself to play, at least play the Masters many, many years. You're not gonna win it, but you're gonna play it.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, as long as I can be there. But you know, if I still chose the Masters after that, I'm kind of like a Danny Willett figure, and I don't, I don't much respect, but still that is funny.

SPEAKER_03

That is very Danny Willett, this this uh this question. All right, well, just for fun, the last two were gonna be the PGA, obviously, to round out all three majors besides masters, and then I was gonna throw the last ditch effort all of the PGA tournaments except the Masters. So every single one of them you'd have except except the Masters.

SPEAKER_01

That one's yeah, that one's even tough because you're like, it's just all or nothing. Yeah, it is, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That that literally is Rory's question. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Well, cool. Good, good deal. I think you may, I think you stopped at the right. I wouldn't have hated if you stopped at the open championship either. So just a question, your your second behind the masters is what?

SPEAKER_01

I go, I honestly go back and forth. It usually it's the US Open, but if the Open Championship were at St. Andrews, then I would choose uh fantastic. Okay. The the the Open Championship at St. Andrews is above US Open for me. Got it.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Makes sense. Um we're gonna do a little bit of blind ranking. Obviously, everyone took notice of the green jacket come Sunday. However, there are some great alternative trophies across the PGA, and so I'm gonna have you blind rank these uh PGA related trophies in the order you think best to worst. You got eight of them today.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, let's do it.

SPEAKER_03

All right. The first one is the Hero World Challenge, the tiger holding a globe.

SPEAKER_01

I love that one. That this is maybe it's not an underrated trophy, but I think it is. That is up there for me. I'm gonna say two, honestly. I think that one is so, but that's yeah, yeah, it's a fantastic.

SPEAKER_03

I you know, I didn't really know the depths of detail of this one until I did the research for this. Uh that's a crazy trophy. Okay. Good. We got we got two locked in. All right. Uh Pebble Beaches uh Crystal Cup.

SPEAKER_01

That is also a really cool one. I really like that one too. I'm gonna put that at a four. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

Two and four. The John Deere Jumping Deer Trophy. That's fine. I'll put it at seven.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Not not my favorite.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. The farmer's insurance open bonsai tree.

SPEAKER_01

See, that's a good one. That is a really good one.

SPEAKER_00

Um I don't think I gave a three yet. I'm gonna I'm gonna go three. Okay. Yeah. The Valero Texas open boots.

SPEAKER_01

Are they actual boots?

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Oh, you have to wear them. If you win, there's like a fantastic there's always fantastic videos of people putting on the boots. People that should not be in boots putting on boots.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's hilarious. Um, okay. I'll I'll leave some room at the bottom for for others. Five.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Five. Okay. The man, I think it's dang, I can't remember where it comes from now. Shoot, but okay. The I because it's not Sanderson Farms. Sanderson Farms used to have a great one, which was a wine barrel. The chicken. Oh, is it okay? No, no, it used to be a wine barrel. Or no, you're right. You're right. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I thought it's just always been a chicken.

SPEAKER_03

Right. It is a chicken. For sure. It is a yeah, it's it's a it's a big fat cock on top of a trophy. So yes, Sanderson Farms, the chicken. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Dang, I can't, like, I have to leave space for number one. And I think I've used all my others. I think I have six and eight and one. I'm gonna go six. I I think this one's so funny. Like, because I I think it might have been Sam Burns. His first tournament that he won was like the Sanderson Farms tournament. And I'm like, that is such a random thing. And I remember telling my wife, like, yeah, I'm watching the Sanderson Farms like championship. She's like, You're just making up tournament names. Like, no, this is a real thing. You win this chicken if you win, I swear. This is so funny.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Okay, good. Um, all right, this next one. I know where it's going. The Augusta National Green Jacket for the Masters.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's going number one. Also, because the trophy's incredible, too. Yeah, yeah. I've throwed at the bottom. Yeah. The the green jacket, timeless, classic, just forever. But the trophy is also very cool. I love the trophy as well. Clubhouse is fantastic.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, so number one. It's funny. You bookended the two jackets. The next one was the RBC Tartan jacket. Dang.

SPEAKER_01

Well, that does deserve to be higher, definitely, but I'm glad that I left number one. Nice.

SPEAKER_03

Well, that's great. No, those are some great ones. I love the creativity, doing the research. These ones are kind of active trophies. There were some great ones that were taken away and not used again. Like uh, I think the the one down in New Orleans was great. It used to be a gator swallowing a golf ball. Yeah. Like there was some there were some great trophies back in the day. The wine barrel I talked about. There was some Claret Jug wasn't on there either. So I tried to keep it to just the PGA. We'll we'll do some overseas ones as well.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. In the future. Yeah. Those like DP World Tour ones get pretty crazy too.

SPEAKER_03

They get pretty if you want to see some crazy stuff, go to Dubai. Their staff are wild. So yeah, we'll we'll do that. We'll do a global one next time. Yeah. Nice. All right. So this next game is would you rather? Familiar topic we've done here before, talking about some golf-related skills. So you got to pick one or the other. Would you rather have an elite wedge in spin control from about, you know, 100 to 150 yards out, or would you rather be able to shape draws and fades on command?

SPEAKER_01

That's a tough one because I feel like you you do this the similar shots pretty equally. But I would go elite spin wedge control. I just feel like you're set up with in that scenario so much more, whether you have to punch out and you're now you're, you know, much closer than you normally would. But to be precise within 10 to 120 yards is how you win tournaments, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. No, I I I tend to agree. And then also like elite spin control doesn't mean just, you know, you're great at spinning it back. It means you also can not spin it and and hit something dead and flat and and and have it. So yeah, I think I think that's probably the way to go. Would you rather never chunk a wedge or never slice or hook a drive?

SPEAKER_01

It's funny going from wedge control to this, but I think never slice or hook a drive. I think I I just get more confidence when you're you're good off the T. Yeah, I'd rather have that. I'll I'll deal with the chunked wedges every now and then. It happens.

SPEAKER_03

Sure. I wonder from a like a scoring standpoint, which one would be a bigger effect. Obviously, this question isn't slice and hook every drive.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

But yeah, I wonder just like if you you were magically to take those two out of your game, what would be the better scoring edge between those two? Kind of interesting. Clearly, you can win the masters slicing something way right.

SPEAKER_01

Clearly, yeah. We've we saw it firsthand.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Um, would you rather never use a rangefinder or never use a cart?

SPEAKER_01

Never use a cart. I I already enjoy walking the course. And not it, not even so much that I like using a rangefinder so much. More so that I'm okay if I don't have a cart, but I also do really like to use my rangefinder.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I feel like that's pretty essential. Um, would you rather be the best ball striker in the world or the best putter in the world?

SPEAKER_01

Definitely the best putter. I feel like right now in my game, putting is where I have the least confidence. And to just not have to worry about that would be very nice. Um yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You know what's just so crazy? And I know people talk about the greens at August all the time and the undulations, but what is more incredible, I think, for me, seeing the YouTube golfing scene explode is when you get a tour pro on these kind of easier, flatter courses. Oh my god, they're deadly from 15. Like it's it's automatic. Yeah. If it's a straight putt, these guys are automatic. It's only when you bring in the crazy lightning fast, undulating greens that you have on tour that it becomes a problem. But man, like Justin Rose on that that grand video was just dialed from 15 to 20 feet straight straight putts. It's crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And you know, when you when you're watching a tournament and it says like make percentage from this distance, and you know, it's like, okay, 50% from whatever feet has to increase by like at least 25% when you go and play like any other course where the it's like five marks slower than a normal course or than a Tournament course. So yeah, it's just a different, different game. Did they ever say on the broadcast what the what the greens were rolling on Sunday? I don't know if they did. We definitely saw people not being able to grip the green from their approaches more often on Sunday, but no, I don't think I recall a specific number. Yeah, I don't think they did either.

SPEAKER_03

Um, all right. Would you rather chip 20 yards uphill or hit a 20-foot putt downhill?

SPEAKER_01

That's tough because the chip uphill, if you don't get it, you could roll right back down to where you're going. But you could do the same with the putt, you hit it past, and now you're chipping. I'd rather chip 20 yards up. I always like whether I'm putting or chipping, having kind of that that backstop of going uphill is more comforting than having to control the speed downhill, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_03

What I found so interesting watching Sunday and really the whole week was how many people were hitting putter off the green. Like a lot of creative shots with the putter off the green. I always feel kind of like lame bringing out my Texas wedge when I'm playing and just be like, yeah, I'm so scared to chip this and duff it. But it was incredible to watch some of these shots that were putts. I mean, Rory's putt uh on the back nine on Sunday, oh my gosh, uh on 16 was unbelievable. Yeah. So yeah, that's a good question. Last one, would you rather play the Internet Invitational or the ATT Pro Am?

SPEAKER_01

When you say ATT Pro Am, am I just playing as an amateur or am I competing as a pro? No. Okay. Fair enough. I'd probably play the internet invitational then. Feel like that will actually make me feel more like a pro than having to play the white tees at the pro am.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

No, I think so. Um, although, do you get to play no, you play spyglass, right? You don't play Cypress. Not anymore. Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. All right. Well, good. Thus, game of Would You Rather. We have one last thing in the hopper tonight. Um, and it's kind of ridiculous. So a lot of greats in golf have a nickname, and even more select lists have a nickname that just happens to be an animal. Today we are handing out nicknames to some of the greatest current golfers that do not have one. So obviously, I'm speaking about, you know, tiger's tiger, Jack is the bear, we got Greg Norman's the shark. We we got tons of animals out there. What would Rory be if he had one?

SPEAKER_01

Can't think of an animal. I just think of roars, which is funny because then you think of a tiger when you think of something roaring, but lion for Rory just doesn't the lion, I don't know. Maybe it needs to be something Irish. I don't know. What do you got?

SPEAKER_03

I I don't know. I like the lion only because it's the lion and the tiger and the bear. I mean, it's it's perfect. That's pretty good. So I I would I think it makes sense. And yeah, Roar, it's got roars on his on his ball. It's not spelled the same, but you know, it's a roar. And I think it fits. So I think we'd go lion. Wow. Okay. All right. I think it doesn't fit his personality, but I think it'd be good.

SPEAKER_01

How about Scotty? Scotty. I think it needs to be something a little bit silly, but that could also like kill you. Yeah, that's right. Something a little bit more of like an assassin, but he's just such a like a lovable guy, you know. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

So I went that route. I went that route. I went lovable, went but has the dog in him, so I'm gonna go the dog. So Scotty the dog. Scotty the dog. I I like that one. Yeah, okay. He can bark, he can bite. Exactly. All right, this next one would be Bryson. And I toyed around with this one a lot. Ultimately, I decided to not choose the animal that I initially thought because I'm gonna give it to someone else a little bit later. So I went with a real silly one here, and I went with the lab rat.

SPEAKER_01

That's good. That's relevant, though. That that makes a lot of sense. I I like that. For some reason, I had like hawk or eagle in my mind because he's big. Yeah, he's strong, but we know him as the scientist, and so I think lab rat's really good.

SPEAKER_03

The eagle does fit him, though. I mean, that that you're spot on with that. Okay, so John Rom, no question in my mind, this one's the perfect fit for him. He is the bull. Yeah, that's perfect. Spanish heritage, you got the bull. I it's just it's like picture perfect, hot, fiery personality, huge guy. It's no question he actually should be known.

SPEAKER_01

That's perfect because the thing that popped in my head was hippo, and I'm like, that doesn't fit well. That just seems kind of insulting. Bull works. That's that's so perfect. How is that not his nickname already? That just makes so much sense. It really does.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I I think it should be his legit nickname. He just maybe he just needs to break through and win a couple more majors, and we'll he'll put himself in the animal nickname talk.

SPEAKER_01

That's perfect. Yeah, we you gotta post that one and and get him on board.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I think he would be. It's great. That's good. All right, the next one, I it's a combination of two, so it's gotta be a duo. It's the combination of Speath and Thomas. Classic pairing for the last 15, 20 years. No, 15 years. I have an idea. What I have such an insulting idea, so I'll let you go first.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the one I'm thinking is like like Roadrunner and uh we got no Roadrunner and Coyote, like Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know? Well, that's a good one. That one, or what's what's the or Tom and Jerry? That's what I'm thinking of. Tom and always chasing each other. Yes, that is great. Honestly, they have their moments where they're friends, you know.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, man, that's a good one. Tom and Jerry, crap. That's a great one. I went much more insulting. I went the hyenas because they are always chirping. I mean, dude, yeah, even Speath was so vintage speed this weekend. He was just talking up a storm to himself. Yep. At Augusta. And JT's the way you know, JT's similar. He's very similar, and they're always talking, you know. So I went the hyenas, but I really love your Tom and Jerry. That's a good one.

SPEAKER_01

That Tom and Jerry's good. I do like hyenas too, though, because they're always talking. They're uh I I love the clips where it's like whenever I'm playing bad golf, I try to remember what Jordan Speeth said this one time, and he just yells the F-word like after his butt. I'm like, that's so funny. And that's what you think of because they're hilarious. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

These are great. I think I don't know how we lobby for these, but the we'll put it out there and maybe it'll come back to us.

SPEAKER_01

But I think we did good on these ones. We we gotta find some relevant companies that are associated with these animals or foundations and see if they can sponsor it.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, noble. Oh my god, Tom Brady's company, noble for for Rom. Get it, get a sponsor. Are you kidding? We we we we are the the brokers here. Exactly. We are John Rom's management team at this very moment, and we're crushing it. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

All right, dang, we're smart.

SPEAKER_03

We are. That's gonna do it for us. Thank you for joining. It was a great Master's week. See you next time.
