So Hogan's Alley famously refers to Riviera Country Club, but it also refers to two other courses. Do you know which ones?
SPEAKER_00I have no idea.
SPEAKER_01If you had to guess of the events going on this week, where do you think one would be?
SPEAKER_00I would you're right. I buried the colonial is one.
SPEAKER_01Yes, colonial is one, and then specifically the sixth hole at Carnusti. It's much more difficult, but that is also referred to Hogan's Alley, which leads me to believe there's a lot of places being called Hogan's Alley. Which one is the real Hogan's Alley?
SPEAKER_00It's good. It's like which one's the real Statue of Liberty.
SPEAKER_01That's right. If I had my vote, it'd probably be Colonial because that's where Ben Hogan grew up. But uh I don't know. There are a lot of Hogan's Alleys out there in the world. That is funny.
SPEAKER_00Well, when you're that good of a golfer, you just get stuff named after you.
SPEAKER_01A local municipal golf course says it's been overrun by what some are calling quote golfers. Has the game grown too much? Do we need more scratch golfers? I'm telling you, hack slow the game down. You can't grow golf if people are chunking it into the weeds all day. Scratch player?
SPEAKER_00Hey everybody, it's Des and welcome back to the Hack and Scratch podcast, episode number 18. Excited to be back. Casey, how are you doing?
SPEAKER_01I'm doing well. Coming off a long weekend of watching a ton of golf. My newborn had me up very early in the morning, so I was able to watch the CJ Cup basically from 5 a.m. onward Thursday, Friday, which was pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00Wait till that comes in handy for early Ryder Cup, away rider cups when they get you up early. And it then it's really worth it. Speaking of which, did you uh do you feel that we should delay a day and have this thing end on Memorial Day? This tournament? Yeah, the the CJ. Push it a day and have it actually end on Memorial Day.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, why not? Don't they invite a lot of current and active and uh former military to attend the tournament as well?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think they should. I just I feel like there's no reason not to. Everyone has a day off. There's no real other sports during this Monday day. Um, it just seems like a real cool thing to do. I, you know, I love I love that uh a lot of golfing events end on kind of big holidays, you know, Father's Day, and and this would be really cool to add another holiday in there.
SPEAKER_01That would be cool. Good idea.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, let's get to the results because we had quite a stunner. Unbelievable that the the tournament was run what won at 30 under par and none other than Wyndham Clark. What do you think about that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's so funny because I read a stat of I think the course invested like a hundred million dollars to make it more difficult and they only dropped it down by one stroke from 31 under to 30, which is pretty hilarious. But Wyndham Clark just completely owned that back nine. The putting was out of control. Siwoo had a pretty comfortable lead going into the final round, but because players can go so low at this course, it's still anybody's tournament. If you just have an off day, somebody can overtake you, and that's kind of what happened.
SPEAKER_00For sure. I think it was like probably at hole 14 or 13. I thought to myself, okay, I think Siwu's pretty firmly in the driver's seat here. I think he gets it done. And then Wyndham went on a tear. That crazy 45 put 45 foot putt, like down a slope was was insane. And he knocked, I mean, everything all the way up until the finish. Unbelievable. So yeah, gets home at 28. It's insane. Yeah, but there was a couple other great performances during the week. I mean, obviously, Scotty tried to defend his title as best he could and and was nearly flawless in it, and but didn't quite pull it off. A lot of top fives for for Scotty this year, and and honestly, top twos, and in in most cases this week, it was a little further back, but yeah, comes up short yet again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, one of my favorite stats from this tournament, and I had to go look it up because I heard the the announcer say it, but I didn't believe it. Uh it was, I think, on the back nine, he made a five. And it would the commentator said that was his first five all week. And I was like, no way, that's not true. So I go and look back at his scorecard, and sure enough, he had one single five. And I I need to find the stat again, but apparently that hasn't been done or without anything less than a five in a tournament in like 50 years or something like that. So pretty pretty unbelievable. I don't know. I just thought that was a cool stat.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that is insane. There's one stat you hear, you just like you said, you just don't believe it. There's no way, yeah. It just doesn't even make sense. That's crazy. But yeah, unbelievable. Another highlight who I will never scare shy away from highlighting since he's been my pick for breakout star since the beginning of this year, is Blades Brown. Earns his special temporary membership on the PGA tour. He's gonna be in, I think the next event is the Canadian Open, next one he'll be in. But uh yeah, amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, he just he played incredibly, and you could tell kind of I think it was on like the 12th hole. If he just hung on and parred out the rest of the way, like he was good to get in that top 23 or whatever he needed. So great for him to just keep his composure on that second half and just finish it out and get what I think he finished uh ninth or something like that. Like really T9. T nine, I think. Yeah, really cool. So he's gonna be in a lot of tournaments the this year. I think he's gonna get those sponsors' exemptions. So it should be fun to watch.
SPEAKER_00Very good. Well, it was a fantastic tournament. I can't say I'm the biggest Windham Clark fan right now in general, but uh happy for him. It's pretty amazing anytime a player makes a comeback like that and gets back to the stage they once were. And you know, he was on such a tear, you know, a couple years ago and and uh seemingly fell off a little bit. But uh it's amazing, you know, get back up on the podium. He he'll probably go on to be threatening for the for the rest of the year as well.
SPEAKER_01Yep, definitely.
SPEAKER_00So we don't have a live tournament to speak about, but we got some continued live news. Uh one coming out of uh the DeChambeau camp, seemingly having quite a bit of an identity crisis. We're all kind of wondering to ourselves, is Bryson back to the old Bryson? And you know, it's it's interesting times.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I guess other folks will have the question did the old Bryson ever really go away? You know? And yeah, so he was on a podcast last week basically saying he didn't know if he was going to continue playing professional golf or focus fully on content creation. And I was just like, this is such a strange comment to to make. I don't know. I mean, it sure to each their own depends on what their goals are. But I'm like, dude, you if you stayed on the PJ tour, you'd probably be a top 10 ranked player in the world. You know, you you can be competitive with these guys. It just the way that I see it is it's like, well, who's gonna cater to me the best? And I'm like, come on, man, you're you're one of the top players in the world. Like, go go just show them how it's done. But that's not how he's doing it.
SPEAKER_00Francis from Barstool was kind of like, it's like he's doing that childish thing where he's like, Well, do you want me to play? Or, you know, it's like, you know, pandering to see if you, you know, and then all these comments about, well, I could either, you know, focus on YouTube full time or play professional golf. And the seemingly most popular comment from from everyone is, oh no, you can you can play on Thursday and Friday, miss the cut, and then do YouTube golf on the weekend. Perfect.
SPEAKER_01That that plan works, it makes sense.
SPEAKER_00It's crazy. Well, Liv isn't uh having anything easier on their side as well. They're looking for investment. I think they've upped it from 250 to now seeking 350 million. It just doesn't seem I I just can't imagine it happening. I don't know what entity would want to sink that much money into seemingly losing, you know, a business. And so yeah, it's uh it's interesting. But another comment from Bryson a couple weeks ago that I think just got buried beneath all of his ridiculous comments recently is he was very clear that he thought that his team, GC Crushers, and other teams could be bought solely up for for for upwards of 200 million dollars on their own. Like they were, you know, NBA franchises back in the day. Like you could buy these teams for 200 million. I mean, in in no possible realm is that even remotely true. Uh so just I don't know. It's it's all kind of a joke.
SPEAKER_01Well, and you also have to assume if you're gonna buy one, you need buyers for every team, or else you don't have a league. Yes. So that is for sure. Yeah. I mean, I I really think we're gonna have kind of a spirit airline situation where they're just gonna shut down at midnight one night and tell the players to fly back on United. So I don't know. It's an interesting, it's kind of we'll wait and see.
SPEAKER_00I am not gonna I am not gonna set up buy live.com or or whatever it was for spirit airlines. I don't I don't think that one works as well. Not not worth the 12 bucks. No, no. Well, cool. Uh we can shift to some YouTube golf. It was a busy week, and like we said, coming after PJ, you know, we thought we'd get a pretty busy week, and we did. Bob Dust Sports opened us up at major at Shinnicok. I think all the big channels will start doing U.S. Open content at Shinnnecock, and and Bob Dust Sports was first. Surprise of the century. Joey somehow out of nowhere wins it. Unbelievable. I I yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01He he had some great shots, he had some great putts, and he kind of kept his composure at a very difficult golf course. So I was also pretty surprised, but it was it was a good watch. Like I enjoyed seeing them kind of go through the the challenges of playing a U.S. Open venue, but I was very surprised.
SPEAKER_00I'll say this, you know, I I talk a lot of stuff against and Joey and been honestly just more frustrated about his golf game uh than anything, but he plays with confidence, he's like a typical, like very, you know, kind of when he's when he's on, when he's playing with confidence, he's doing quite well. And I think just as we all go through major slumps, he's been struggling with that confidence recently. And so he has not been that same golfer. So nice to see him get it back, I'll be honest.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. Well, we'll see if it if he can hang on to it.
SPEAKER_00So we also have Busta Golfs, which is obviously Mason Nutt, and he has started a brand new series, which you put me on to, which is double the golf budget, and that's Mace basically meaning the tea time golf budget every single episode. So I think it's he wants to do like five. So he'll start from uh I think it's a $50 round all the way up to an $800 round or something like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think that's what it was. And so he just released the first one, which is like the $50 round. And it was so funny because I'm I watched the whole thing, and by the end, I'm like, I'm good. I don't need to double it. Like this is kind of my kind of golf, just like a local Muni. You get a hot dog and you call it a day. But he gave it a really good review overall. Like I think he he ranked everything or gave it a score based on the value of it, uh, the food item he got, the signature hole, which this one didn't really have one, and then the clubhouse. And overall, I think it got like an 8.2 or something. So, you know, kind of a cool idea. Uh, there's somebody on Instagram right now that is kind of reviewing all the LA courses and does it in like two minutes, and it's that type of stuff that I like. So you kind of know going in what the experience is going to be like. So maybe that's kind of what he's going for here. But yeah, it was just kind of more lighter entertainment for me. I didn't really focus much on the golf, rather more the vibe.
SPEAKER_00Only thing I really missed, and I think is like the the heart of YouTube golf is having that playing partner. So he does these videos solo, which I think is just interesting. You know, I I always he he's if anyone can carry a a solo vid, it's honestly a person like Mason Nunn. He did a great job doing it, but I just feel like it's so much better when you have someone to bounce stuff off of and and just that discussion in the cart cams and all that good stuff. Um, so I kind of missed him having a playing partner. So um, but other than that, great, great video. Uh, then for play put out a really big one also at Shinnecock, which is can the three of them hold a lead against Kevin Kisner chasing them down? And I can't remember what Frankie and Riggs started at. I think it was like 15, maybe somewhere around 15 shot lead. And then Trent got 25. And Kevin Kisner caught every single one of them except Trent. Trent pulled it off on the very last hole, had a putt for 99 to beat Kevin by one, and he pulled it off.
SPEAKER_01It was great. I was very happy to see that. I thought it looked a little dicey toward the end and didn't know if he was really gonna pull it off, but really fun to watch and you know, good for him. Overall, though, like I just thought the production quality was solid. The footage they had of Shinncock was really cool. I liked that they got kind of the sunset and then into the the evening. I don't know, just one of those very well done videos, kind of like the internet invitational that we've talked about before.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, it was that was fun. I do agree. I you know, now that you mentioned, I do feel like production quality and just the transitions and everything was was really heightened for that. Uh that's funny that you mentioned that. Yeah, great video. Awesome to see Trent do well. It's hard. I mean, as an 1820 candy capper to shoot to break 100 on US open soil, incredible.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So good for Trent, man. The last one, which I'll just mention, I went on a deep dive. I think I saw initially a Brian Bros video with D'Angelo Russell, who's a former basketball player, one-time NBA All-Star, as he'll say. Really great, though. He's played with, I mean, he's played with LeBron. He's played with, I think he caught the tail end of uh man, I feel like he caught the tail end of Kobe as well, or at some point was linked with Kobe. So yeah, it's just unbelievable kind of history and and stories that he has. But wow, just a super down-to-earth guy. I I know I talk about loving to hear like a professional sports competitive edge and stuff like that. He he has it, but not in the same way as other people. He is very much down-to-earth and just really enjoyed his video with Brian Bros. And I went on a tear. I watched everything, almost everything he has on backyard golf. So shout out to uh D'Angelo Russell doing some really cool things and and just seemingly some great golf content. And yeah, very cool. All right, that takes us away from YouTube golf and back to professional golf. We have the man, what section are we gonna eventually put these all these YouTube golf tours in? Is it professional golf? Is it YouTube golf? We we gotta decide. Great question. Yeah, I know. Um, but for now we'll stick to the Charles Schwab at Colonial. Pretty decent field. We are missing, you know, two best golfers in the world, uh Rory and Scotty. But we have a great host of uh of golfers as well. So what do you think is uh gonna go down this week?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, uh this course requires you to be pretty accurate, but also for scoring, you know, your strokes gang putting needs to be on. So I I don't have like a lot of insight other than what I've seen from players in the past few weeks. So my pick is Ben Griffin. Like I one, I've I've watched his full swing episode last week as well. So I I'm kind of rooting for him lately, but strokes gang putting very good. And I mean, he has been playing very well. So I wouldn't be surprised if he were able to pull off a win. Uh Akshay Bhatia hasn't had the best start overall, but I think his putting has been so solid that this suits him well for this course, also. Then kind of my wild card, just because he played so well last week was Tony Finao. I feel like we haven't seen him in a while, and Tony is always up there. So I'm hoping that he kind of is getting back into the groove and can put up the scores that make him one of the best in the world. So we'll see.
SPEAKER_00Nice. You know, it's funny. I thought about Tony as well, and I haven't really even considered putting a bet on Tony for a very long time. And so yeah, that caught my eye as well. Yeah, just needing accuracy off the tee, decent wedges should should do the trick here. I am I'm going off a little bit of recency bias, but uh I threw out Keith Mitchell in there. He had a great performance last week, has done pretty well here in the past, so just to get that level of comfortability. Uh, one of my favorite bets is Keith Mitchell, first round leader, which I will be hammering this week. If the stars line, I'll be a very happy man come Thursday. I'm gonna also throw in Mac Meisner. I think his game is shaping in the right direction. If he can just putt, and I say this a lot as a cop out, but if he can just putt a little bit better, um, he's gonna be doing really well. So hopefully his putting game pops this week. And then going back to the well, I just feel like this guy's gonna eventually click one of these weeks, but I keep missing it, honestly, is Max Graserman. So hopefully he figures some things out, um, has a decent history in the past year. But yeah, I I think uh those are my three. I'm digging at the well this week. I kind of want a longer shot winner. If if I were the smart money, I think Ludwig's game is just unbelievable right now. I mean, you look at this field and it is comparatively it is unbelievable. Um I think so. I think he has like three top fives this year, but no wins. So I'd probably put the smart money on Ludwig, but I'm I'm digging at the well for a deeper shot. So we'll go Keith, uh Cashmere, Keith, Meisner, and Graserman. I like it. Nice. All right, let's focus on to some new uh Pro Shop drops. Uh, we got yet another zero torque putter. What do you think?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so this one uh is from Bedinardi. I always have a hard time saying that.
SPEAKER_00It looks more intimidating than it is. It is funny. It looks, and especially when they do their cursive thing, it looks very intimidating, but no, Bedinardi.
SPEAKER_01Perfect. Bedinardi. Uh I don't love the name of this putter, but it's the Antidote Hexperimental number seven, zero torque putter. It's just a mouthful. Sounds good. Yeah, it is expensive. I think it's like what $550 or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I I think it might even be more than that. It might be more.
SPEAKER_01These putters are always so expensive, but it looks pretty good. It's like a sawed off version of the the jailbird from Odyssey.
SPEAKER_00That's exactly what I thought of a blacked, really blacked-out jailbird. Yes, you just cut the the back end down. Yeah, that's literally what it is.
SPEAKER_01It's just a jailbird blade, basically. That's funny. But it looks good, and like these putters are super popular, but I don't know. I just don't. I think I'll stick with my Wilson Zero Torque putter for 200. There you go. Not that I have it, but I will. Yeah. So yeah, this comes out in a couple weeks. Wildly popular putters, always super expensive. Yeah. So that's that's the first one. Uh this one is actually near and dear to my heart. Cleveland is coming out for a limited time. They're 588 Tor Action wedges, which I have my 588 sitting right there, and I'm looking at it. I remember asking my coach when I was playing high school golf. I'm like, I need a sand wedge. What should I get? He's like, Tor action all day. And so I went and got a 588 from the used bin, and I'm still using it to this day. It is ridiculous that they're charging $588 for it because I would actually play with it again, but that's just you know, yeah, it's a little excessive.
SPEAKER_00I get it. Um, it has a cult following like no other. Yeah. And, you know, they can do kitschy stuff like throw a 588 tag on it, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01Kind of like Odyssey selling the hockey stick from Happy Gilmore.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So, but nonetheless, gonna be great equipment.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. So those are the two new things that I found this week, which I I am looking forward to kind of trying out some of this stuff. It's been a while since I've played around with new equipment. But one thing that I did catch in the headline last week was that Tailormade is holding off on introducing a new driver either this year or next year, and they're gonna move to a two-year product cycle. I think it's just specifically for drivers, but it may be for everything. I think this is long overdue, personally. We were just talking a bit about it last week with Aaron Rye winning with an M6 driver. Like it's unnecessary, and it's it's almost scammy to be like, nope, you need this QI 4DX now, and you know, whatever. And I'm like, you don't. So I think it's an interesting approach. I'm hoping that means they can put a lot more effort into creating something even better every two years, but we'll see.
SPEAKER_00I love it. It makes all the sense. I'm surprised because it's not like iPhones making a two-year development gap, you know. It's just not great business. So I am happy with them choosing this. I think it's for the golfers, which is great. Yeah, I applaud them. All right, we got some fun games today. I'm really excited. We're gonna kick this off uh with a real exciting one. We're doing a draft. We are settling an age-old debate, which is what is the greatest golf game ever? And we're talking about video games, and so we're gonna do a snake draft uh style draft. Uh, if you're all right with that, I'm gonna start us off with I think the golden standard here, which is Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004. Classic that never ages.
SPEAKER_01That that was the best one. I actually never had it. I had 2003, but and I still have 2003, but just the best game. Like it's just I think that's the one that they put a lot of new stuff on to it, and it made it way more playable. I don't know, but great first pick.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_01Mine and every clubhouse, country club, not country club, but golf arcade person will love this is golden tea.
SPEAKER_00How could you not?
SPEAKER_01I so badly want to put one just right here. Like I just have wanted that big golden tea console in my house or my garage forever. So one day.
SPEAKER_00It still is five hundred dollars. It's not like two thousand, which is a the don't ask me how I know that exactly, but uh the going rate for a vintage golden tea game. But yeah, they're they're pretty sick. I I too would. Love to have one in the back and fun.
SPEAKER_01It'll go into our headquarters eventually. For sure.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Our uh Bob HQ.
SPEAKER_01That's right.
SPEAKER_00Um, all right. Well, you get another one. We're going snakes.
SPEAKER_01Right. So the next one I thought of was the candy stand.com mini golf game, which was just putt-putt mini golf with different types of candies around. It was like trolley gummies, lifesavers, all that stuff. I and my friends played that so much. And I haven't even looked. I hope it's still around if you can find like some sort of mod version of it somewhere. Yes. Yeah. But that was that was so fun and wanted made me want to get candy all the time.
SPEAKER_00I've played that so much online. I know exactly what you're talking about. I haven't thought about it in decades, but yeah. All right, cool. Back to me. I'm going to a more modern one, but just addictive. Like I remember downloading it and think I'm going to play this for like five minutes. And it was just when mobile games were getting hot, but golf clash. So much time spent dragging that ball back and then spinning it. I mean, it's it's it's a it's the mobile golden tee, and it's phenomenal. So golf clash was great. Uh, this next one I I doubt you've ever heard of before, and I I probably shocking a lot of people here, but it's very old. I would probably date it back to like late 90s. Sid Meyers Golf. And what it basically was was roller coaster tycoon for golf course development. So you opened up your own country club, created the holes, created everything, created the clubhouse, charged the prices, did all the stuff, everything for roller coaster tycoon, but for golf course management. It was phenomenal. I would, I would literally play it today if I could. I want to play that right now, actually.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's so funny because I think there was, I think I had golf resort tycoon. Nice. Okay. And I just remembered it. The only thing I remember about it is it got really hard when you had a gopher infestation and you had to go fix everything. That's so funny. I'll I want to check out Sid Meyer's golf. That's great. Nice. Okay, so I'll close this out with my last pick, which I I loved it. I never had, but enjoyed it at Friends' House was Wii Golf.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Kind of the classic Wii system, throwing the controller through the TV. But yeah, always a good time.
SPEAKER_00We I I brought all of my a good group of my fraternity brothers from Georgia all the way to California for spring break one year. And unlike it's ever been, it poured for six days straight. Nothing, nothing but rain, just downpouring, not even like a slight let up. And we found ourselves playing we golf endless amounts of hours during that week. And so, yes, that that is forever being my heart as a good thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a blessing in disguise, right there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Well, good. I love it. I'm sure there's stuff we left off. I know you mentioned like some crazy ones, like Y Lai Country Club had its own golf game, which I can't even imagine why they would use WLI as the the course for their game, but that's amazing. Yeah, that'll be good. Let us know what we missed. All right, so for our second game, I'm gonna run you through a blind ranking. This week, uh, I was very fortunate I got to see something at the Cosm in Los Angeles, which it's a smaller version of a of the sphere in Vegas, but for like theater and sports. And so I got to watch something there, absolutely blew my mind. It was pretty awesome. So I thought today we're gonna blind rank what is the best way to watch a golf tournament. Love it. All right. First one, we're gonna set the tone. There's seven today. Uh first one, we're gonna set the tone at home alone, just with the TV, with the feet kicked up, all alone.
SPEAKER_01I do like it, and that is generally usually how I spend most of my time watching golf. But there's a lot of better ways to do it. I'll put it at five. Okay, that's good.
SPEAKER_00I like the baseline. All right, at the clubhouse after a round.
SPEAKER_01I do like this. A lot of fun because everybody else is into it, just like casually. I'll I'll put that at a four. Okay.
SPEAKER_00I do, I've only done it a couple times because I just rarely play golf on Sunday before before the coverage. Um, but I've done it a couple times. It's great. You know, you just feel like it's funny when you watch golf, you feel like you have the itch to go play golf. So the fact that you just come in from playing golf, it's perfect. All the itch is gone. You've already done it. Now you just get to watch. It's amazing. All right. At the house, so you're back at the house, but now you got your friends, you got your guys with you.
SPEAKER_01See, that this is much better because, like, especially if everybody's into it, you're you're you're rooting for the same guys or different guys, makes it more fun. I like that. I'll I'll give I'll put that at two. That's definitely up there.
SPEAKER_00Cool. Nice. You go to the tournament, but you're sat at a single hole. So you just park it. You know what's funny?
SPEAKER_01I I don't like that. I don't like parking at a hole for too long. I'm gonna put that at seven because you can only see one hole. You can't really get a whole sense of what's going on in the in the tournament.
SPEAKER_00Sure. We we had that when we watched uh the Genesis for a little bit, we parked it on on uh on 16, 17, 16, 16, and uh yeah, I wanted to just get up and go. So I get you. Okay. Next one, which you haven't seen, but just imagine it for me the Cosm.
SPEAKER_01That's gotta be so cool. My parents would go to the Cosm to watch Rams games and they loved it. I I mean I love the sphere as well. So I'm gonna say three. Okay, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_00It's gotta be pretty engaging. I like that spot. The only thing is there is I hear I haven't seen a golf match there, but you're also sat at a single hole. It's not like you're moving around with the players, so it's a tough one. Yeah you might move around to different holes, but you're kind of you're kind of stuck. All right, the next one. You go to the tournament, but you're walking with the groups.
SPEAKER_01See, that that I like. Like, especially if you're walking kind of like we did on Sunday with the final group. Like that's as close to the action as you can get. I don't know what the last one is, but this one's pretty good. So I'm gonna put that in number one. Okay. It's good. I like that.
SPEAKER_00Uh what an incredible experience to do it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I love it. Uh, all right, this next one at a watch party with a big group.
SPEAKER_01Dang it. So that's gonna go at number six, but uh if I could flip it, I would want that higher up as well. I've always wanted to like have a master's party or go to a master's party. Never been able to do it, but I think that would be a ton of fun.
SPEAKER_00Highly, highly overrated. One of the worst. One of the worst. It's it's like it's so much going on. It's like Super Bowl parties. Like you tell yourself, God, I can't wait to enjoy the Super Bowl with everyone. But dude, it's like five percent of people are actually watching, and other 90 are like annoying you with questions. Like it's it's it's a tough, I it's a very tough way to watch a golf tournament.
SPEAKER_01Well, maybe number six makes sense then. Yeah, yeah, that works.
SPEAKER_00I kind of liked it. I kind of like the way it worked out. Yeah, I love it. Okay, nice. Well, this is a great list, and I I really agree with most of the the Yeah, anything you would flip around, like what what would your number one be? The only problem with like being on grounds is the crowds. The crowds just it's it's it's tough because we were we were following Jacob Bridgman, and you know, we were pretty close for a ton of he almost hit a ball at us. Yeah, and that was on like 14 in Hogan's Alley. But when we got to like 16, 17 and it was closing, we were 12 people back. It becomes very hard to enjoy it at that point. Um, that's the only thing. So I might have put like uh at the house with the guys, maybe at one, but very close.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, makes sense, like it's cool, nice.
SPEAKER_00All right, well, we're gonna close with a game of truth or bad lie. This has actually been a pretty good segment for us recently. So we're gonna we're gonna keep going.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, considering I got every one wrong last time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh, can't study up for these ones, so take it easy on Casey. So we're gonna give you a couple things if if you haven't realized, but golf companies kind of have a very interesting origin, some kind of surprisingly weird origin stories. And so today I thought, okay, let's make up some lies. We're gonna separate the true history from from the bad lies. So you ready? Okay. Mizuno started as a baseball focused sporting goods shop before becoming famous in golf.
SPEAKER_01You know, it's like I know Mizuno does other things, other sports. And I actually think I might have had a Mizuno glove growing up. So I'm gonna say that that's true.
SPEAKER_00Ding ding ding. That is true. Yes, they were a Japanese baseball company before they ever became famous in golf.
SPEAKER_01There you go. Nice. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Uh, next one. Titalist was created after a dentist x-rayed a golf ball and found that the core was off center.
SPEAKER_01I feel like we've talked about this. I also think that is true.
SPEAKER_00I tried to stump you to give you two in a row that were true. Okay, good. You're doing much better this week.
SPEAKER_01I remember the dentist piece. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yes, he was very frustrated that he missed a putt, probably right before his dental appointments that morning, and just decided, hey, let me bring this golf ball into my work today and x-ray it. And he found out the core was very off-center. Perfect. All right. This next one, dear and near and dear to your heart. Wilson traces its history back to the meat packing industry.
SPEAKER_01I have no context on this. I don't know, but for some reason I want to say yes. How could it be meat packing industry? No idea.
SPEAKER_00All right. Well, you got lucky. So Wilson very famously started off as a tennis company first, and they built rackets, and those rackets required fibers and strings. And those initial fibers and strings were taken from the excess of the meat packing industry. So the original company that eventually became Wilson was actually a company that took the excess of the meat packing industry and turned it into like materials like string and uh and fibers and things like that. Very cool.
SPEAKER_01I like that.
SPEAKER_00There you go. I gotta get you like a meat pack. I think it's called like Schlossenger and Sons meatpacking something. And that's like original Wilson. I gotta get you that t-shirt. Yeah, that's awesome. Um the next one. The Dossler family from Adidas or Adidas, as we say it here in America, originally made golf equipment before stepping into spiked running shoes.
SPEAKER_01I don't think that's true. For some reason, I thought they were origin soccer.
SPEAKER_00Man, you are on it. Yes, they do actually have their origin and running. Before they got to soccer, they were actually spiked running shoes, but for sprinting. Nice. Yes. All right, next one. PXG, started by Bob Parsons, who was a principal investor in Facebook.
SPEAKER_01I think this is true. I know he's super rich, and I hear the commercial of like, I'm Bob Parsons, blah, blah, blah.
SPEAKER_00I finally got you. I thought I would, I thought I would bait you being Silicon Valley and tech forward. Close, but it wasn't Facebook. It was Godaddy.com. He was the first one. That's right.
SPEAKER_01I did know that. I did know that. Yeah. You got me on that one.
SPEAKER_00I had to tweak it just a little bit to be. Okay. Last one. The women's writer cup equivalent, the Solheim Cup, honors the founder of Ping. I also think that's true. Yeah. I don't know why. I didn't know this, but Karsten Solheim, who obviously the Solheim Cup is named after, was the founder of Ping. Wow.
SPEAKER_01I I love that. Well, I'm surprised that it kind of focused on one manufacturer, but pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's true. Uh, do you have any idea who the Ryder Cup is based off of?
SPEAKER_01Not Sam Ryder. No, I have no idea.
SPEAKER_00No, I don't have any idea either. And as a person who co-hosts a podcast for golf, you would think we would know that, but yeah, we'll we'll do our research for next time.
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_00I cannot believe we don't know the Ryder Cup origins. That's horrible. All right. But, anyways, okay, you did phenomenal. What a comeback. You talk about that's much better than a minimum card level comeback. That's incredible. All right. Good stuff. Well, that's gonna do it for us. And thank you for joining and see you next time.
