Morgan Talks Comics
Welcome to Morgan Talks Comics, a podcast that is a deep dive into comics from the past and the present. I really started collecting comics and also really started making them in the 80s, and still collect and make them now! Each week, I’ll be picking out some of the unknown gems and cult favourites the world of comics have to offer, and taking an in-depth look at what makes them worthy of being a cult comic in my eyes.
Let me introduce myself… I’m Morgan Gleave, a professional cartoonist and comic junkie! I’ve been drawing cartoons and comics for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been reading them for as long as I can remember too - I was lucky to have had some really cool comics and graphic novels bought for me when I was young, which grew into a real love of comics and cartoons of all shapes and sizes.
I really love comics and cartoons, so I hope you enjoy listening to the show, and have as much fun hearing it as I have making it!

EPISODE 15: STARSHIP GODZILLA
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Short but sweet this week - it's definitely quality over quantity!
This week, we're looking at STARSHIP GODZILLA, a new title from IDW, and one of three new GODZILLA titles they started publishing last year. It's a great, fast paced crime caper set on the skeleton of MECHA GODZILLA, who has been turned into a starship, crewed by a bunch of lovable space crooks.
We're looking at issue one, the start of the whole story, and a real scene setter, introducing the cast and tone of the stories.
Also listen out for Eliza-Mariah being a bit cheeky this week as Morgan tries to hold the show together... Enjoy!
Um welcome back to Morgan Talks Comics. This week we are looking at Starship Godzilla, which is a fairly new title from IDW Publishing. Uh joining me this week, as always, is Elizabeth Chamberlain.
SPEAKER_02Hello, and could I remind you of something?
SPEAKER_00Please do.
SPEAKER_02Your phone is up there taking a video.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I haven't lost my phone.
SPEAKER_02So when you can't find it, you know where it is. And I would have to admit that I didn't realise either when you were looking for it. Not that I was looking for it, I was running my own business, but absolutely. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00We all make mistakes. Yes, we do. Um, yeah, so this is a fairly new title. Started last year, we're up to about issue six now. Um I was quite excited when IDW announced they were going to be doing a line of Godzilla comics because I've been a huge Godzilla fan since I was really little. I love the original films. Um was lucky enough to see quite a few of them when they were re-screened at a local cinema last year. And I love Mechagodzilla probably more than Godzilla himself. I think Godzilla's a him.
SPEAKER_02What's Mechagodzilla?
SPEAKER_00So Mechagodzilla is a robot Godzilla that that was built to sort of fight and destroy him, but it didn't happen like that because Godzilla just destroyed Mechagodzilla.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's sad. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But then Godzilla always wins in the films, so there's no point in watching it then. There is because it's great fun. It's really great fun. I just I just love the way they're put together. Anyway, um yeah, Starship Godzilla is one of three titles, Godzilla-related titles that IDW is publishing. Uh they started three new titles last year. There's a a main Godzilla title, the Starship Godzilla, and then they did a shorter series called Into the Dead Zone. It's all about radioactivity and wastelands and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_02I'm looking oh sorry, I'll mark the colour.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, please do.
SPEAKER_02I'm looking at the cover now. Is that a her or a hing?
SPEAKER_00It's a her. Right, yeah. Yeah. So um you're gonna say something.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what what's with the cat?
SPEAKER_00He's the ship's cat. So the premise of this of this comic is that the they've taken Mecca Godzilla and can sort of turn him into a he's turned him into a spaceship. He can fly anyway, because he's got like rockets and stuff. Um Eliza Mariah's looking despairingly at all of this.
SPEAKER_02I want to know about the cat more. I haven't I don't haven't found everything I want to know about the cat. Is it something like super cat or something?
SPEAKER_00Not that I'm aware of, I think he's just a cat.
SPEAKER_02You guess on the front page.
SPEAKER_00Guess on the front page. What's the case? I guess I don't know. I don't know. I guess uh Oliver Owner, who's the artist here, um really likes cats.
SPEAKER_02It's probably his cat.
SPEAKER_00It's probably his cat, yeah. Um so yeah, they it's basically it's a it's a ragtag bunch of of slightly disreputable people who have us who are using the using Mechagodzilla as a starship, so they fly they fly through the universe sort of doing missions and stuff. I've got another question. What's this? Looks like a pineapple to me, or it might be an egg. I think there's I think we'll get to some eggs later in the world. What are these things? They could just be little planets or little missiles. There's not much difference between planets and missiles, is there?
unknownNo. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Uh anyway, before we dive in, uh a little bit of background on the creative team. So Oliver Ono is an artist I became aware of a couple of years ago, um did a really lovely graphic novel called uh Monster Island Summer Camp, and it was about a group of like young students having a hot having a summer holiday on Monster Island. Monster Island is where Godzilla and everybody lives. That was silly of them, wasn't it? Well it this there was a summer camp set up and and it features Minilla, who's the the the offspring of Godzilla, is like Godzilla Jr. But it's a really it's really love beautifully drawn. I really like Oliver's style.
SPEAKER_02I'm probably really showing my ignorance here, but what exactly is Godzilla?
SPEAKER_00So to the to do even more of a deep dive, Godzilla is uh the original film came out in 1954. Uh it's a Japanese film, and it's basically a protest film against nuclear weapons.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but what is he?
SPEAKER_00Godzilla is like a big is like a dinosaur, like a big lizard, uh, who was affected by all the radioac radioactivity of the nuclear testing in the 40s and 50s and grows to an enormous size and sort of goes on the rampage destroying things.
SPEAKER_02Right, get it now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And is this the the um what you have here is the one that was supposed to be. So this is Mechagod's. That's what I was trying to remember.
SPEAKER_00This is a slightly later version. The original version appeared in 1974. That there were who's that? This is another one of the crew members here.
SPEAKER_02Right, so we find out more about him or her later.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, as we dive in.
SPEAKER_02Okay, dive in.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um yeah, so Oliver and O yeah, really like his style. It's it's he's uh works in kind of a bit of a manga anime style. What's the matter?
SPEAKER_02I'm ready to dive.
SPEAKER_00Oh it's a shame the camera wasn't pointing the other way then, because that was quite funny. Um yeah, so and Chris Gooch, who is the writer on on this on this title, he is also an artist as well. What he does, what usually happens is that Chris does a variant cover for this because variant covers are really popular. Liz Mariah's rolling her eyes at this because it's all commercialism of making money.
SPEAKER_02Well, I haven't got a problem with that, but I wouldn't fall into the trap of buying more than one.
SPEAKER_00No. But I like I like Oliver's work, so I'm quite happy to have the the standard cover, which is which is Oliver's stuff. So we'll dive in.
SPEAKER_02Right. I like the colour of the first yeah.
SPEAKER_00So we've got like a uh a title spread page to introducing the creative team and giving all the details of IDW. Uh they have the license from Toho, Toho Pictures are a Japanese film company who make all the Godzilla films. Um IDW have the licence to publish Godzilla in comic book form.
SPEAKER_02Right. What's this person's name? Did you tell me? I can't remember.
SPEAKER_00No, we haven't we haven't actually found out yet.
SPEAKER_02Oh don't you know?
SPEAKER_00So we jump no, we just jumped straight into the action.
SPEAKER_02Oh sorry. What's going on? You're having a Barney?
SPEAKER_00So basic yeah, having a Barney. Um we we jump straight into the action, so we jump straight into a fight scene and they're trying to capture one of the uh crew of of Starship Godzilla. Um but they they try they're making a break for it.
SPEAKER_02Uh could I uh clarify something? It's called Starship Godzilla. Yeah. Is that because Godzilla is on it? No, no, it's because that other pretend meta.
SPEAKER_00Because Mecha Godzilla is actually is being used as a starship, so a spaceship.
SPEAKER_02Oh dear. Yes, okay, okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay, and then we carry on through and we see the two two characters here, and they've actually they've come to take what looks like eggs. So I think they're actually supposed to be kaiju or monster eggs.
SPEAKER_02Right, what sort of monster?
SPEAKER_00Don't know yet because they haven't hatched.
SPEAKER_02Oh my they I'll tell you what they look like, they look like the sorts of things you get from Cadbury's or something that they used to tell. Little mini eggs. Yeah. I like those.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so they're talking over like uh sort of walkie-talkie to somebody who's actually on the s on their ship. Um yeah, and they said it's kaiju eggs, so it's monster eggs. Yeah, and they they said that they're rare, so they've all they've been they've been sent out to get these eggs, they've been paid a price to get these eggs. But they they missed one of the guards on the other ship or wherever they are, and he sets off an alarm.
SPEAKER_02No, hang on. I've got this confused. He's they've gone from the mon from Mecca Godzilla. And they've gone on to a different ship, have they, to get those cabbage cream eggs, but not cream eggs, not the eggs. Yes.
SPEAKER_00To get the eggs, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And one of the guards done an alarm on there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay, right, moving on. So they've turned around and say, We need an extraction now, and they're they're gonna run off with the with the eggs. And it looks like this is inside, so it could actually be inside like a big insider city. There's kind of a cityscape here with like roots and stuff growing out of it. Mmm, looks very odd. Yeah, and we have a full page of stuff of the starship Mecha Godzilla.
SPEAKER_02What does that say?
SPEAKER_00It says carash.
SPEAKER_02Oh well that's the the monstery thingy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right. So they come diving in, the two crew members here down at the bottom. So we get a get a nice shot of the actual ship coming into the uh into the page.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, they're not. The the city thing isn't in the ship. No, the ship is actually landing. Now hang on, which ship's there?
SPEAKER_00That's this is Starship Godzilla, this is Mecca Godzilla coming in here at the top.
SPEAKER_02What's the where's the other ship gone? The one with the I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I thought I said they could be in a ship, but it they might actually be on a planet. So there's like a city here. Right. So they've they've gone on onto the gone into wherever this city is to get the eggs.
SPEAKER_02I shouldn't be listening to you then, should I?
SPEAKER_00No, I don't know what's going on. I don't know what's going on at all. And then we have a big splash with the title, Starship Godzilla.
SPEAKER_02Reminds me of Star Trek, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It has got a bit of a Star Trek vibe to it. Oh, this looks interesting. So, next page, we've got to see a a big shot of the whole of Starship Godzilla, so you can see how they fitted sort of like a ship, Starship bit onto the actual skeleton. They say it's the skeleton of Mechagodzilla, but it's metal, so exoskeleton they meant, don't they? Yeah, exoskeleton, yeah. I remember a little bit of biology from stool. And we've got our two characters here. Um about they're talking about the canister where the eggs are, but one of the eggs has actually hatched.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. It's got chicken it.
SPEAKER_00But do we know her name yet? No, not yet.
SPEAKER_02Oh sorry.
SPEAKER_00No, sorry. She's saying sorry there as well, because all of a sudden there's loads of holes through the hull of the ship, so clearly whatever was in the egg has eaten their way through the ship.
SPEAKER_02Right, that's a bit of a calamity.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, what's this in the is that what so here's the cat.
SPEAKER_00I think so. If we just go back a page, I think uh and the the the lead character here says, you know how much Ralphie loves anything warm, and I think Ralphie is the cat, so he's curled up around the eggs. Yeah, you can see him here, he's curled up around the eggs.
SPEAKER_02What colour is brown in there?
SPEAKER_00It's because it's because the glass of the canister is sort of like it's tinted, yeah. Yeah, so Ralphie the cat is curled up around the one that around the eggs, and one of the eggs is hatched, and whatever was in the egg is is eating its way through the hull of the ship.
SPEAKER_02So naughty Ralphie actually made a hole in here.
SPEAKER_00Or opened the door. He opened the door and went in with the eggs where it was warm, yeah. Because we know what cats love to say love to stay warm.
SPEAKER_02Oh yes.
SPEAKER_00Now he's really stuck in there. Now he's really stuck in there. So the captain is off is um calling for a uh shipwide lockdown, um return to your quarters, and then he's called upon this monkey-like character who's I believe he's called Lyff. Uh, and he says, Meet me on level nine, bring your gun. And then you can see all these hatches closing throughout the ship.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00And then there's there's another uh seated white.
SPEAKER_02I had a big drink not very long ago, not middle spoken.
SPEAKER_00Somebody's got a little bit of a rumbly tumbly.
SPEAKER_02I do apologise if you could hear that. I'll hold my hat suck through it.
SPEAKER_00So the captain's looking here, and um there's a hole through the bottom through the floor of the deck here, and he's saying still hot. I mean, it must be close. Yeah. So they're looking around the ship.
SPEAKER_02Oh this I don't quite get this picture.
SPEAKER_00So this is just sort of mechan electronic mechanical stuff, maybe down in the engine room. We'll see. And the Lyft character is uh is saying that he's gonna take take him out with a laser bolt between the eyes, and the other the other character saying no, we're not killing anything.
SPEAKER_02Quite right, so or is it the woman that's saying she's not gonna kill anything? Quite right, so she's she does look a little bit of a harden up, but maybe she has got some brains in there somewhere.
SPEAKER_00So they're they're all they're all coming together into one point, they're tracking down where the creature is.
SPEAKER_01What's this? Is this the club?
SPEAKER_00And then look then they look up and the actual the creature is that's come out of the egg is actually above on the roof, and it comes bashing down, crashing down in between in between all of them. Lif is threatening to shoot, and uh the other character says, Don't shoot. Yeah, yeah, and then because they're in out of space and shot the glass, they're saying there's one the reason not to shoot, is they've shot through the glass that's in the ship, and it's like gonna causing a vacuum because the fact space is a vacuum. Understand that yeah, you understand that bit. So about the only bit you have understood so far. I've got an exoskeleton. You've not got a skeleton on the outside. That's an exoskeleton. That's what we were talking about minutes ago. But you've not got an exoskeleton.
SPEAKER_01I never said I had.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. We're getting very we're getting very confused this episode. You've been drinking. No. So they see you off the hole, so and then they catch the little the little creature that's come out of the eggs, and uh the lead character dies and stops Lyff from uh shooting it.
SPEAKER_02I said I've I got exoskeleton, not I have got exoskeleton. It took a while for me to this is a good picture there, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, really I really like Oli uh Oliver's style. It's uh really nice artwork.
SPEAKER_02But some of it isn't as realistic, is it?
SPEAKER_00No, it it's drawn in kind of the ma in a in you know more of a manga style, so they're like a Japanese style. But so it could it could work as an as an animated stuff.
SPEAKER_02But this is different, isn't it? This is like a proper piece, proper piece of art.
SPEAKER_00You're saying the rest of the art isn't proper.
SPEAKER_02I didn't say that.
SPEAKER_00So they're all in in like a lift here. You can see the you can see there's a long thin panel here of them go in the lift shaft.
SPEAKER_02Many years ago I used to see women walking out of a factory looking like that with scarves on their heads. That's her hair. Yeah, I had realised over there, but that was my first thought. I don't know if they do it now. I might be so showing my age.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, there's the cat.
SPEAKER_00So this is Ralphie the cat here, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, he's out the uh whatever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's having some treats. He doesn't deserve those. No, he doesn't really. So they're talking about the creature and saying that it looks scared, and then they said, but it is dangerous. IN is the character's name. I am IN, yeah. A Y A N.
SPEAKER_02Not I am is that the cat food.
SPEAKER_00Not by IAMs, the cat food, no, definitely not.
SPEAKER_02I N.
SPEAKER_00But you say, what if it attacks one of the crew or destroys the O2 tanks, oxygen tanks? And he's saying, but we have to kill it for the good of the ship. Why can't they just catch it? Well I think that's I think that's what they're gonna try and do. And then the the sh the creature has actually managed to get away and it's actually come up onto the onto the bridge of the s of uh of the ship. So they make an emergency stop. Climbs out of the top of the uh lift. What does this say? It's a scrit noise or something. Grating to a hole. Mm-hmm. And we say we see uh Anya and uh Ralphie climbing up the ropes, the cables on the lift. And she's trying to get to the creature before the other ones do because she wants to save it, the other ones want to kill it. We see the creature at the end of the page here.
SPEAKER_01What's this saying?
SPEAKER_00It's it's hit it's S' so it's like it's hissing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like a like a hissy thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean that says smash, does it?
SPEAKER_00That's a smash.
SPEAKER_02She's looking quite pleased with herself.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And then the creatures the creatures actually turn round and they realise that the creature's actually quite cute and friendly in the end of it. And it says see. I told you she was friendly. Oh, it's a she. It's a she. So uh then come back and there's another another nice shot of the whole of Mechagodzilla, the the starship. And uh the captain's talking to Ilsa, this other character here, who I think is his girlfriend, I think. Um talking about how are you feeling, and they're talking about the eggs and everything else. No wonder no wonder no wonder someone's paying us a small fortune to steal them, because these guys are mercenaries. Yeah, kind of mercenary criminals, sorry. What's that say, black? But then the captain bre um treacherously shoots Ilsa. His girlfriend. His girlfriend. I think they I think it's supposed to be his girlfriend. Not anymore, huh? Not anymore. It's not the best sort of boyfriend I have. So he's clearly a bit of a rogue.
SPEAKER_02He is.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00So it's just setting the scene. It's like setting the scene for what's going to happen moving forward. So then the following page, we've got like a a news page about the whole line of comics that they're doing. So there's advertising. Yeah, preview of the next issue. They're talking about the other two titles, the Dead Zone and the ongoing Godzilla title.
SPEAKER_02Which are all I've noticed. Oh, sorry.
SPEAKER_00Which I'm also reading. I'm reading all three titles. Dead Zone has actually finished, but I believe there's going to be another story span off from that later. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I was going to say that in novels I've noticed they've started writing um the printing in it the first chapter of the sequel. Yeah, I don't like that. I never read it, I can order it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I generally yeah, if they have like previews and stuff like that, I tend to just skip across them because I'd rather read the story likewise. Issue by issue or chapter by chapter, you know, or or when the books are actually out. Yeah, so there's news page about what's coming out. Then there's the other variant cover, so there's the c the cover here by Chris Gooch, who's the the writer, and some other variant as a star Star Wars. Happy Star Wars Day, by the way. It's May the 4th today, as we're recording. Oh my word.
SPEAKER_02I'd forgotten about that when I saw the day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I like the the cover with the cat.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's yeah. Um, and then another like nice line of uh comics that uh IDW are bringing out at the moment is these Godzilla versus different cities of America, which and it's really great because they're getting artists and writers from those cities to create the stories.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_00So this is Godzilla versus Boston. So all of the artists and writers here all come from are originally came from or are based in Boston.
SPEAKER_02Do you reckon they'll do Godzilla in Fleckney?
SPEAKER_00Probably not. You could do it then. I could do that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. More advertising?
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, just a general because this came out in Oct this came out in October last year, or yeah, the beginning of October last year. Any letters pages or not a letters page as such, no. There usually is, isn't there? Sort of feedback. Quite often, yeah. Um IDW also have the license have the licence to publish the turtles. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
SPEAKER_02No, they're not called ninja, are they?
SPEAKER_00They are. They are now. They changed it for a while with the cartoon and the and the and stuff like that. They call them Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
SPEAKER_02That's right. That was for here, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because they thought ninja was too violent.
SPEAKER_02But they're not real, are they?
SPEAKER_00They're not real, but originally they were called teenage mutant ninja turtles.
SPEAKER_02Mm I liked their names.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And there's the turtles on the back page. Well, they look a bit more vicious than they used to. Yeah, they've they've kind of become a bit more um He-Man. Yeah. Actually, I think the artist who did this, um Freddie E. Williams, I think he actually did a Masters of the Universe, so he did a He-Man comic. There's been a crossover with the Turtles and and Masters of the Universe.
SPEAKER_02I seem to remember seeing them on wallpaper or something.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they've been everywhere. Much, much like Godzilla. Godzilla's been merchandised, like left, right, and centre.
SPEAKER_02I haven't seen it merchandise, I've just heard it from you. Again and again and again.
SPEAKER_00I do like, yeah, I do like the Godzilla films, especially especially the originals. I know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Can I get a bit of feedback on that one? Yeah. It could have been nice, but it was awfully dark drawn, wasn't it? Like I can't tell what's going on there.
SPEAKER_00I mean the colour the colours I suppose are are darker darker tones, but it's it's quite nice and bright.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't think so anyway. It's got all these mustardy yellow things on it, so but later on it gets even darker, doesn't it? That's quite nice.
SPEAKER_00So you've got nice colours there, yeah. That works really well.
SPEAKER_02It's a city.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I like that because it reminds me of Star Trek. See, this is quite dark, although I do like that image. I like what's this supposed to be here? Pipes.
SPEAKER_00They're pipes, yeah. So it's as the creature's bit eating its way through the ship, through the hull of the ship.
SPEAKER_02So I don't really like the darkness of it all the way going through.
SPEAKER_00So I guess it's supposed to say that it's got like subdued lighting. By this point, they come to a part of the ship where it's more like the engines and stuff, so it's generally darker down there. Yes.
SPEAKER_02It's like films in snow, don't like those either. Yeah. All the same. Yeah. I'm not struck on that, and of course, I've got my usual thing, they're uppercase.
SPEAKER_00They are.
SPEAKER_02So everything loses a point from being uppercase automatically.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Loses more points by being too dark, generally.
SPEAKER_00But is that a peculiarity of yours? Because you do have a problem with seeing images that are dark. So what if it is, I'm giving the numbers.
SPEAKER_02I'm just saying, just saying because just because I'm peculiar, I I will I still allow to take points off because it's peculiar. And the other thing is it's only a bit of a story, it's only actually a very small bit, and they've made a meal of it.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, but it's the it's the first issue, so they're setting the scene, introducing you to the characters and to the premise of the whole series. Yeah, so I think they're taking quite a sim quite a simple bit and spit. Yeah, but this is what comics do, they they have to stretch a story out to cover at least 20 pages of artwork.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I have noticed this. Somehow actually have good good stories.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Not too much fighting in that, was there? Not not much. No. So I think I'll give it about a seven out of ten. Excellent, good. I forgot to rate last week's ones and now I can't remember. So it was a non-event last week, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_00We did Supergirl.
SPEAKER_02Wasn't that in bits though?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's that's yeah, that were sections from the the graphic novel that's coming out in a couple in about a month's time.
SPEAKER_02I forgot to rate it, but at the same time, perhaps it doesn't deserve to be rated because it's just a bit of advertising, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00At the end of the day, yeah, it's it's a bit like we've just had sorry, um at time of recording, just this week the previous weekend, we've just gone come through. We had free comic book day on Saturday. Oh yes. So um obviously a lot of titles, and I I guess being a bit mu being a bit cynical about it, it is more about marketing, it's more food.
SPEAKER_02Many people have found marketing, that's oh yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER_00The best marketing's like that, actually.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you dressed up, didn't you?
SPEAKER_00I did dress up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I didn't see you dressed up, I saw a photograph.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I got I thought you were flipping your long hair back.
SPEAKER_00Apparently I was doing that all day. So I was wearing a long pink wig.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. So I think we've gone to the end of that, haven't we? Got to the end of that. Yeah. So it started with Godzilla, it's of the three Godzilla titles that have come out from IDW, it's it's my favourite title, mainly because I like Becca Godzilla so much as a character. Um I'm working on my own kaiju story at the moment, which will have a robot creature in there as well.
SPEAKER_01Are you allowed to do that? Yeah. We don't publish it. Because of course they're unlocked by the colour.
SPEAKER_00No, no, I I will be publishing it.
SPEAKER_01But it's aren't they?
SPEAKER_00It's copyrighted and I'm not I'm not um making it Godzilla and everything. My character's got different names and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_02It's all so don't give the game away. But you've stolen the idea from there.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I'm sorry, homage. It's so what it is, is somebody's teasing me here. I'm being I'm being picked on, I think. Um long story short, my my next graphic novel that I'm working on is a mixture of it's kind of it's got elements of Godzilla films in it, it's got some peanuts cartoons in there, and it's got um Action Man, who's which is a British to British military toy from the well started in the 60s and moved into the 70s. Had no bits, had no bits, yeah. So I've kind of taken things predominantly from my childhood and I've bumped I sort of squashed them all together to make like one one story.
SPEAKER_02Are you going to put your dog in it? The one that went a little bit loopy.
SPEAKER_00No, there's no there is a dog in it, but it's not uh it's not a Dalmatian, no.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we had a Dalmatian that ended up sadly we had to have her put down because she got uh Well, we now probably know she got she got canine dementia.
SPEAKER_02That is very sad, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00And because because me myself and my sister were quite young at the time, there was the there was a risk that that Katie, our Dalmatian, could have turned against us and hurt or killed us.
SPEAKER_01How old was she when she was?
SPEAKER_00I think Katie was about she would have been about five, about six or seven.
SPEAKER_02So oh using the bullshit time she died before she got.
SPEAKER_00She was a puppy when I was a baby, so yeah, she would have been about six or seven. Yeah. There you go. So that's this week's comic in a nutshell. Uh Sasha Godzilla, probably my favourite one at the moment. I funnily, when I get my comics, I buy my comics like each month. What do you see? Yeah, that's the captain, the one who shot.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I see. I thought he was a monster and that this was a and now I can see his face. Oh I ignore me, ignore me. Talking rubbish.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, um, yeah, so generally when I when I get my I buy my comics each month, and at the moment I keep this one till last because I've been really enjoying reading it, so I keep the best till last. So it's a really good way of in making sure I actually enjoy the comics. So there you go. So yeah, Starship Godzilla by Chris Gooch and Oliver Ono, published by DW. Uh, really good title. Uh, yeah, about six issues so far. So if you wanted to catch up on it, I suspect there'll probably be a trade paperback out fairly soon because they usually do that when there's six issues. So if you wanted to catch up on it, that'd be a really good place to start.
SPEAKER_02No, that's enough, thank you. Thank you very much. You're welcome.
SPEAKER_00I don't think Eliza Mariah was particularly bold over this week.
SPEAKER_02Well, no.
SPEAKER_00So we we'll say Cheerio and we'll see you next Wednesday.
SPEAKER_02Oh, Cheerio! Where did that come from?
