been addressing, though, is we acknowledge the reality that the world is not as it should be. 00:01:08.640 --> 00:01:19.200 But the promise of the Bible, the promise of the gospels, the promise of Jesus, the promise of the book of Revelation is that one day all things will be as they should be. 00:01:19.280 --> 00:01:27.120 So we live in this tension that we know it's not as it should be, but we know that one day Jesus will return and everything will be made as it should be. 00:01:27.280 --> 00:01:30.640 And the question in the book of Revelation is not when will that happen? 00:01:30.879 not a timeline of things you should do, but a number of things that the Bible says, the Revelation says you should do in the ways that you should follow Jesus so that you are ready when that day Last week we kind of landed in chapter seven. 00:03:48.400 --> 00:03:55.680 Chapter seven is this really powerful chapter that falls at the tail end of the opening of the seven seals. 00:03:56.319 --> 00:03:59.199 When you're in chapter seven, only six of them have been opened. 00:03:59.360 --> 00:04:02.159 Today we're going to show you what happens when the seventh one is open. 00:04:02.400 --> 00:04:05.840 But what you'll see in Revelation is that there's groups of seven. 00:04:05.919 --> 00:04:15.840 There's seven seals, there's seven trumpets, or seven bowls, and every time after the sixth one is open or revealed or utilized, there is a break in the action of sorts. 00:04:15.919 --> 00:04:19.920 There is an interlude, if you will, before the seventh one is engaged with. 00:04:20.480 --> 00:04:22.480 In chapter seven is that break. 00:04:22.639 --> 00:04:27.120 You see, in the first six seals, we saw these horses, right? 00:04:27.199 --> 00:04:31.120 These different color horses with horsemen on the backs, and they would come in. 00:04:31.199 --> 00:04:34.959 And it was kind of this sign of judgment that was happening on the world. 00:04:35.120 --> 00:04:38.720 And you get into the sixth seal, and you're like, oh my gosh, the end is coming. 00:04:38.879 --> 00:04:42.399 Number seven is upon us, the final judgment is about to happen. 00:04:42.480 --> 00:04:44.959 And John says, pause for a second. 00:04:45.199 --> 00:04:51.839 And in chapter seven, he says, the four angels stand at the four corners of the earth, and they are holding back the winds. 00:04:51.920 --> 00:04:54.959 The winds in scripture always represent the judgment of God. 00:04:55.120 --> 00:05:05.600 So the angels are holding back the judgment of God so that the Bible says they can mark the faithful upon the foreheads with the mark of God. 00:05:05.839 --> 00:05:07.360 This is not the mark of the beast. 00:05:07.439 --> 00:05:14.720 We're going to talk about that next week, but before there was a mark of the beast, there was a mark of God upon the foreheads of the faithful. 00:05:14.879 --> 00:05:17.120 This is straight out of the book of Ezekiel. 00:05:17.439 --> 00:05:27.199 So the angel said, Before we can destroy, before the final judgment happens, let us go through the earth and mark the people who have given their lives over to Jesus on their faithful, and this is so important because it's gonna come up in chapter 9 on why this is important. 00:05:48.879 --> 00:05:55.680 But what we need to know at this point is before the seventh seal is opened, the angel said, Hold on, wait a minute, let me mark the faithful. 00:05:55.920 --> 00:05:59.279 And this is when we see the number 144,000. 00:05:59.519 --> 00:06:06.879 That is not an arithmetic thing, that is not a specific number, that is a representation of the people of Israel. 00:06:07.120 --> 00:06:16.399 But John also turns and he sees not just Jewish people, but he sees people from every tongue, every tribe, and every nation who are also being marked on their foreheads. 00:06:16.480 --> 00:06:19.680 This huge multitude is the word that he uses in chapter seven. important to understand where we're at. 00:06:29.839 --> 00:06:31.600 We we just got through six seals. 00:06:31.759 --> 00:06:34.160 It feels like the final judgment is upon us. 00:06:34.319 --> 00:06:36.079 The angels have marked the faithful. 00:06:36.240 --> 00:06:38.240 It feels like we're gonna get into chapter eight. 00:06:38.399 --> 00:06:41.199 That seventh seal is gonna be open and it's done. 00:06:41.680 --> 00:06:43.279 Listen to how it starts. 00:06:43.519 --> 00:06:48.959 In chapter eight, verse one, he says, When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. 00:06:49.040 --> 00:06:50.399 This is different. 00:06:51.040 --> 00:06:55.759 This is this is not what we experienced with the six, because the six were these horses that were writing. 00:06:55.920 --> 00:07:02.560 So you got galloping horses, you got noise, you got chaos, and the seventh one starts, and there was silence in heaven. 00:07:03.120 --> 00:07:08.079 He said, I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. 00:07:08.399 --> 00:07:13.759 We'll get we'll get to the trumpets in a in a moment, but remember, seven angels were just given seven trumpets. 00:07:15.519 --> 00:07:19.360 Another angel who had a golden censer came and stood at the altar. 00:07:19.600 --> 00:07:25.439 He was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all God's people on the golden altar in front of the throne. 00:07:25.600 --> 00:07:32.800 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God's people, went up before God from the angel's hand. 00:07:32.959 --> 00:07:43.120 Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth, and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning, and an earthquake. 00:07:43.279 --> 00:07:48.480 Then the seven angels, who had the seven trumpets, prepared to sound them. 00:07:48.720 --> 00:08:03.360 Now, this language is really important because remember, we go into this thinking final destruction, final judgment is coming, and what we actually get is very intentional, different language. 00:08:03.920 --> 00:08:12.639 The picture that's being painted here with this angel and the golden censer and the incense is a direct picture of the Day of Atonement. 00:08:12.959 --> 00:08:24.879 And the day of atonement was when the high priest would enter into the Holy of Holies and offer a sacrifice on behalf of the people to find atonement, which is literally means at one moment. 00:08:25.040 --> 00:08:31.600 It is bringing together two people from a broken relationship, bringing together God and the people. 00:08:31.839 --> 00:08:38.559 And on the day of atonement, the priest would go with a golden censor in the book of Revelation. 00:08:38.720 --> 00:08:46.799 He would go with a golden censer, not a brass one that he used every other day of the year, but he would use a gold one on the day of atonement. 00:08:46.960 --> 00:08:48.879 That is the censer that the angel holds. 00:08:48.960 --> 00:08:54.399 And he wouldn't just take a little bit of incense, he would take handfuls of incense, as much as he can carry. 00:08:54.559 --> 00:08:57.039 He was given much incense. 00:08:57.519 --> 00:09:05.279 And he goes in and he throws the incense upon the coals, and smoke goes up to God along with the prayers of the people. 00:09:05.440 --> 00:09:07.440 This is atonement imagery. 00:09:08.399 --> 00:09:19.519 When we thought final judgment and destruction was coming, what we actually get is a picture of the atonement of Jesus Christ in our lives when the seventh seal is opened. 00:09:20.080 --> 00:09:22.240 But then there's these seven trumpets. 00:09:22.799 --> 00:09:27.039 These trumpets that were handed to all the angels, and they are ready to blow these trumpets. 00:09:27.120 --> 00:09:29.519 This is what's about to happen, we're about to dig into. 00:09:29.840 --> 00:09:35.360 Now, trumpets were, man, really important back then, more so than what they are for us today. 00:09:35.519 --> 00:09:47.840 You know the first time the people of God heard a trumpet blown was when God was meeting with Moses on Mount Sinai, and there were clouds and there was thunder, and the Bible tells us there was a sound of a trumpet. 00:09:48.240 --> 00:09:50.399 It was not blown by Moses or any man. 00:09:50.480 --> 00:09:52.799 It was this was a sound from heaven. 00:09:53.039 --> 00:09:58.559 The God was proclaiming his presence and his power and his majesty and his sovereignty. 00:09:58.960 --> 00:10:04.559 In Numbers chapter 10, God tells Moses to create two silver trumpets. 00:10:04.799 --> 00:10:07.440 When one of those trumpets is blown, the leaders would assemble. 00:10:07.600 --> 00:10:09.840 When both of them are blown, everyone would assemble. 00:10:09.919 --> 00:10:12.000 These were ways to communicate with the people. 00:10:12.159 --> 00:10:19.360 When it came to military, militaries would use trumpets to communicate to one another, to call people to action. 00:10:19.519 --> 00:10:25.200 They would blow trumpets in certain ways, and the army would know exactly what they needed to do in response to that trumpet. 00:10:25.360 --> 00:10:30.720 But there was one even more important way that the trumpets were used. 00:10:31.440 --> 00:10:40.080 In the seventh month of every year, the Jewish people would celebrate the Feast of Trumpets, also known as Rosh Hashanah. 00:10:40.559 --> 00:10:44.879 And during this time, the trumpets would be blown a hundred times. 00:10:45.120 --> 00:10:58.480 And this would be one of the ways that they would acknowledge the goodness of God, that they would send their prayers to God, but more importantly, it was a call to prepare ourselves to meet our God. 00:10:59.200 --> 00:11:05.679 It was a call at the blowing of the trumpets to repentance for the people of Israel. 00:11:06.879 --> 00:11:08.559 Friends, this is so important. 00:11:08.799 --> 00:11:17.600 We open up the seventh seal, and what we see is the day of atonement is upon us, and the trumpets are about to be blown, which are what? 00:11:17.840 --> 00:11:25.200 Immediately when John's readers would have heard this or read this, they would have said, This is a call to repentance. 00:11:26.240 --> 00:11:31.679 So as we enter into chapter 8 and chapter 9, what we see is not just destruction and judgment. 00:11:31.759 --> 00:11:46.240 Sure, we see judgment, but we also see a blatant call to all those who are striving to follow Jesus to repent flying in mid-air call out in a loud voice woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels. 00:14:11.440 --> 00:14:16.320 00:15:18.320 Now, let me just clarify what he's talking about here. 00:15:18.399 --> 00:15:22.639 In the book of Isaiah, Satan is referenced as a fallen star. 00:15:23.120 --> 00:15:30.639 So when John says he saw something like a star falling from the sky, what he's actually talking about, this is the fall of Satan from grace. 00:15:31.600 --> 00:15:36.720 And he receives a key to the pit, the shaft to the abyss. 00:15:36.879 --> 00:15:38.480 The abyss here means Hades. 00:15:38.720 --> 00:15:49.919 Now, I don't think this is the same key that's talked about in chapter one when Jesus has times we find ourselves just so deeply entrenched in our sin, we said, yes, it's destroying everything else, but I still don't need Jesus. 00:27:48.880 --> 00:27:51.039 The answer is simple, friends. 00:31:19.359 He was also an alcoholic. 00:31:20.079 --> 00:31:22.960 And that alcoholism began to be a growing problem. 00:31:23.119 --> 00:31:30.000 It it caused his career to suffer, it strained his marriage, it broke relationships, and it damaged his health severely. 00:31:30.079 --> 00:31:32.559 He spent multiple stints in the hospital. 00:31:32.880 --> 00:31:39.279 He talks about one stint in the hospital that he had that he was, he had told people time and time again he was going to quit and he never could. 00:31:39.440 --> 00:31:41.920 He never had the willpower, never had the strength to be able to do it. 00:31:42.000 --> 00:31:45.519 He kept finding himself in the hospital because of the alcohol. 00:31:46.160 --> 00:31:56.480 One day in the hospital, he was sitting alone and he just remembers crying out to God for help for the first time in his life, kind of surrendering himself to the idea that he can't do it himself, and he needs a higher power. 00:31:56.880 --> 00:32:00.880 And he says that was the moment that he experienced God in the most powerful way. 00:32:01.359 --> 00:32:03.200 He never experienced God like that before. 00:32:03.359 --> 00:32:09.039 have been helped by Alcoholics Anonymous because of his story. 00:32:26.079 --> 00:32:31.039 But what strikes me the most about Bill's story is that the consequences weren't enough. 00:32:31.440 --> 00:32:34.880 He saw the consequences, that didn't stop him. 00:32:35.200 --> 00:32:38.319 He saw the warnings, that wasn't enough. 00:32:38.640 --> 00:32:43.519 He experienced the pain, and that wasn't enough either. 00:32:43.839 --> 00:32:47.440 And I hear his story, and I'm like, man, this is Revelation 9. 00:32:48.000 --> 00:32:54.880 This is a world that watches the destruction around us, and for whatever reason, we still believe we don't need Jesus in our life. 00:32:55.680 --> 00:33:04.880 Because recognizing something is destroying you, and turning away from it are two very
