A little, quick episode with my kiddos. They ask me a few questions about my business, and I give some answers about being a mom with a business.
Hey guys, it's Carrie Ann, your host of the Hub and a founding member of Thrivehub. Our mission at Thrive Hub is to empower new and inspiring entrepreneurs in our local community by connecting them with experienced business owners. Whether you need guidance on starting your venture, building your network, or tackling business challenges, we're here to help you get up and running. Hey guys, welcome back to the hub. And today I'm excited. And I have a fun episode because my kids are here and they're gonna tell you about me and my business, and I'm gonna ask them a few questions. We are celebrating Mother's Day next Saturday, so I thought this would be a fun episode to have them on. Okay, let's not waste any more time and get on with this. Okay, kiddos. I know you've watched me have my balloon business, and I'm your mom. What is one thing that you've noticed about my business that you like or that's really fun? Dorothy, what do you think?
SPEAKER_01That she does cool designs on the balloons. And Dean, what do you think? I like that my friend bought her balloons.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Thank you guys for those answers. One question I often get is what inspired me to start my own business? And the answer to that was my kids. I started doing balloons after Dorothy's first birthday, and for me it was wanting something flexible and a chance to pursue something creative that I loved. But I also wanted my kids to see that dreams are possible. What's been the biggest challenge for you? I think one of the biggest challenges I have, and you guys can say yes or no, is balancing time is really hard for me as a mom and a business owner, especially because you two are very active in sports, right? Dean, you have baseball games a lot on the weekends. Yep. And Dorothy has dance competitions and recitals on the weekends, and a lot of people have parties on the weekends, so it's very hard as a mom to balance that. Um, there are some days when I feel guilty for focusing on work, and other days when I wish I could put more time into my business. It's a constant act of balancing for me.
SPEAKER_01How do you manage stress and keeping yourself going?
SPEAKER_00I remind myself why I do this. The first thing it is for myself. The second reason it's for you guys, and it gives me the ability to give back to others a lot more.
SPEAKER_01Any advice for other moms thinking about starting a business?
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. I would say go for it. It will definitely be tough, but super rewarding. Building your support system, including your kids and family, if you can. I do. Those jobs do take a little longer when Dorothy helps me, right, baby? And there has also been at least two setups that I remember that I 1000% could not have done it without your helping. Um, so definitely ask for help when you need it. And remember that perfection isn't the goal, progress is. And I did talk about that in another episode. Can I ask you one more question, guys? What do you think about having a business of your own? Do you think you guys are gonna do balloon business when you're bigger or are you gonna do something else? Oh, something else. What about you, Dorothy? What are you gonna do when you're bigger? Do you want to have a balloon business too? No. What do you want to be when you grow up? Uh days. Okay. This was so much fun, guys.
