Have you ever thought on a Saturday night, “I am not going to
church tomorrow, no one will even notice if I am not there.”
A visitor arrived in a small French village. Evening was drawing
near and the people were rushing around town. The traveler
discovered that everyone carried a small, personal lamp. When he
asked one local resident, he was told, "We are going to the house of
worship."
It's Wednesday Today's topic Providing Shade for Others Luke thirteen, eighteen and nineteen. He said, Therefore, what is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garment garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds there made their nest in its branches. Have you ever thought on a Saturday night? I'm not going to church tomorrow. No one will even notice if I'm not there. A visitor arrived at a small French village. Evening was drawing near and the people are rushing around town. The traveler discovered that everyone carried a small personal lamp. When he asked one local resident, he was told, We are going to the house of worship. When the church was built, they decided that each person would bring their own light. Everyone understood that if they were not present, the building would remain dark. When he arrived at the church building, the traveler noticed that every seat had a place for hanging the small lamps. As more people showed up, the building grew brighter. The choice to go to church on Sunday is made on Saturday night. It does not happen by accident. It's been said you'll never know which missed assembly of the Lord's church could have changed your life. I want to take it a step further and say, you never know which service of the Lord's people, people that you missed would be the one that changed someone else for the better. I once to have a man who never taught a class, never preached a sermon, or took a public role in worship, but he was always present. I suspect he'll never know the impact he had. Today I will show up for someone to be their shade tree of refuge. Welcome to the Living Word, a daily devotional from the Jenkins Institute. This is week 19, the Parable of the Muskard Steve.
