When we were in kindergarten, we learned that a dot does a lot when
we work with glue. When you consider the size of the mustard seed,
it is smaller than the periods found in this devotional.
James tells us in James 4:14 that life is a vapor. Some have said that
vapor lasts for three seconds. At the end of our time on earth, our
lives will seem smaller than a mustard seed. The question is, what
will you do with your three seconds? We can do a lot in our dot of
time on this Earth.
Welcome to Hearing God's Stories, a daily devotional on the parables presented by the Jenkins Institute. This week's devotionals written by Daniel Welker. It's week 19. It's Friday. A dot does a lot. Mark 4, 31 and 32. It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all seeds on the earth. Yet when it is sown, it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade. When we were in kindergarten, we learned that a dot does a lot when we work with glue. When you consider the size of a mustard seed, it is smaller than the periods found in this devotional. James tells us in James 4.14 that life is a vape vapor. Some have said that vapors last for three seconds. At the end of our time on earth, our lives will seem smaller than a mustard seed. The question is, what will you do with your three seconds? We can do a lot. We can do a lot in our diet of time on this earth. Dale Jekins made a point to me one time saying, Do not be the preacher no one remembers. As you go through your day today, seek out ways you can make your mark on the people you encounter. It may be holding the door for someone or asking someone about their day. You could smile at someone. You never know the difference. Or a smile can make for someone. For the younger among us, this coming Sunday, instead of running to talk to people your age, seek out the people with more experience in yourselves and ask them to tell stories about their growing up. You'll be amazed at the stories you will hear, and it will make their day. Today, I will go out of my way to make my dot do a lot on this earth.
