To be compassionate is to be sympathetic toward someone. Out of the
Samaritan’s pity, he provided help. Being a good neighbor cares, even
when it costs.
The Samaritan went to the wounded man, poured oil and wine onto his
wounds, and bandaged him. He was practicing the golden rule (Matthew
7:12). He was doing for this man what he would have wanted someone to
do for him if he were in the same situation.

SPEAKER_00Week 27, Wednesday, the parable of the Good Samaritan, Luke 10, 30 through 37 by Russ Crosswite. I'm Dale Hubbard. Compassionate. Today's scripture, Luke 10, 29 through 37. To be compassionate is to be sympathetic towards someone. Out of the Samaritan's pity, he provided help. Being a good neighbor cares even when it costs. The Samaritan went to the wounded man, poured oil and wine onto his wounds, and banished him. He was practicing the golden rule, Matthew chapter 7 and verse 12. He was doing for this man what he would have wanted someone to do for him if he were in the same situation. The world does indeed need more compassion. It needs doctors, engineers, professional business people, etcetera. And it needs men and women with big hearts. Jesus said, Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Matthew chapter 5 and verse 7. Put on then as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, and above all these things, put on love which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians chapter 3, verses 12 and 14. The Samaritan demonstrated compassion. Often we are like the priest and the Levite. No doubt they could have listed a hundred reasons why they did not stop and render aid. We too hesitant and make excuses for not helping others. Some say they do not deserve any help. The Lord emphasizes in this parable is not who deserves help, but who needs our help. Which one do we apply consistently? And the Lord could have said we don't deserve salvation, but he knew we needed it. Jesus was willing to provide the help we need by means of the cross. Look at the price. He was willing to pay his blood for what we needed. We must learn to weep with those that weep and attempt to feel for others. The Samaritans saw him and went to him. He saw, he felt, and he was moved with compassionate action. It was costly and risky, but he showed mercy and did what was necessary to help this hurting man. Today I will look around me to see who is hurting and therefore needs compassion.
