Hello everybody. Hello. Welcome back to another episode of the Red Letter Days podcast. We are your host. I'm Sean.
SPEAKER_02I'm Michaela.
SPEAKER_05And we are so happy that you're here with us today.
SPEAKER_02It's been a minute.
SPEAKER_05It has. Well, we I came downstairs this morning and I I had a panic moment because I thought it was longer, but I I checked and our last upload was at the end of last month. So we're not too far off. It just feels like a lot has happened.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's been like two weeks, two and a half weeks, maybe.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, something like that. I can't remember.
SPEAKER_02But it's been like three months in those two and a half weeks, it feels like.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it looks yeah. But anyways, I I thought we should just we should get on here and and do something. And we've had a lot happening. So I think this episode is just gonna kind of be like updating and talking about the amazing weddings that we've done so far this season.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So we are totally winging it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we're gonna wait, just wait.
SPEAKER_02Like we have yeah, no topic. So this will be completely update. Yes. Yeah, yeah. And it's morning. Oh, like I think I'm halfway through my coffee.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I just brewed a cup. So mine's still hot.
SPEAKER_02So we'll see um how much sense I make.
SPEAKER_05Maybe you can uh update everybody on your almost dying from your allergy attacks and stuff. We won't name the venue. Obviously, it's not the venue's ball.
SPEAKER_02It's not, but it's outside.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It it really sucks being allergic to outside when that's like where you where you work, where where you want to be, like it's finally nice and yeah. But I've been allergic to outside my whole life, so it's nothing new. I have pretty bad palant allergies, but every season is a little bit different as far as intensity and man, this one already is a doozy. And I know it's not just me because I've heard this from several people.
SPEAKER_05Well, we saw it firsthand with one of our second shooters.
SPEAKER_02Poor guy.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh but yes, um, so being at the beginning of the season, I was just kind of blindsided by how intense it was gonna be because I was last year was kind of mild. So I I take like daily allergy medicine anyway, all year round. And I was taking that and I just thought that would cover it. But then like, oh my gosh, the first so the oh, it's so awful. It just you know, I'm not sick, I swear. Looks like, sounds like I'm sick, but I'm not. Um, yeah. So we shot a wedding uh the last day of May. It was beautiful, wonderful wedding on a um basically a farm. I mean, so giant hayfield, all the trees. I'm allergic to every grass and tree, basically. Um and uh it was nice and slightly windy, and that's just a recipe for disaster.
SPEAKER_05And you've I don't know if you knew this beforehand, but you had mentioned that um it releases like the max release for pollen or whatever is right around sunset, and that's you usually when we take our couples out and do like a a session because that's when the light is the best and everything.
SPEAKER_02And this reception is like two feet from a hayfield. And that's not an exaggeration, it's literally two feet from a hayfield. So um, yeah, needless to say, that evening after the wedding was a bit rough just from that. It triggered some sort of flare in me that just kind of like inflammation, whatever, I don't even know. So I have since in the last two weeks been trying to figure out how to get that to settle all the while going out to shoot in it every so many days again. So yeah, I think I'm I think I've turned the corner. I feel good about it, but man, for everyone else who's out there suffering from the same thing, like I would love to know what you do. I've heard honey works, I've tried honey like years ago, but I think it has to be a very specific, like almost to the exact um like the code that you're in. Like, because it has to be the same plants that the bees are pollinating.
SPEAKER_05Okay, I see. I see what you're saying. Um interesting.
SPEAKER_02And I don't love honey, so there's that, but I mean I would do it. I would do it.
SPEAKER_05That seems like a small price to pay if there's benefits there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but yes. I'm currently taking several like weird variations of medication to try and tamper down the yeah, but hey, you know what? You just power through. And if you see me and I'm uh sniffling or sneezing or tr I will try my best to not make it obvious, but it's hard to hide.
SPEAKER_05She powers through.
SPEAKER_02I do power through.
SPEAKER_05I feel so bad because I don't struggle with it.
unknownLucky.
SPEAKER_05But yeah. Rylan, our son, he gets it pretty bad sometimes.
SPEAKER_02He does, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Although he doesn't seem to struggle quite as much as you with it. I don't know if Emma our our daughter really has it too much.
SPEAKER_02Very mild. Yeah. But mine as a kid were much more mild. Like I think I think we talked about this where some people, as you get older, your allergies can get worse, like it just intensifies. And sometimes it's the opposite for people where they have them worse as a kid and they get better.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Um or develop them at all. Yeah. I've heard from people that I've never had allergies and all of a sudden this year.
SPEAKER_02That's true.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I don't know if you remember when we were younger, uh, there was a commercial for I think it was Claritin. And it was basically this guy getting attacked by a giant flower.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's what it actually feels like. Like you're just getting pummeled by this giant flower. That's what I feel like. Like I just got a one-two punch, and then you fall over and you just barely get back up, and you're just like, wham. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_05Brutal. I'm sorry. It's okay. You made it through. But we did come back from was it that weekend that you had said, I'm not going outside, or was it like the week week after or something like that? You're like, I'm not going outside.
SPEAKER_02Uh I I don't remember. It was probably this last week.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah. After Thursday, I think you were like, I'm not, I'm not going outside.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And you hadn't you haven't really gone outside too much.
SPEAKER_02I did one shoot on Friday, and then I was like, okay, I'm I'm actually quarantining myself inside because I need like to relieve my system from exposure. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Order new filters for everything.
SPEAKER_02I was like so close to just asking you guys all to as soon as you come home from outside, like go shower. Yeah. Change your clothes, please.
SPEAKER_04Like, yeah.
SPEAKER_02But it ended up being fine because the filters and uh as long as I keep myself like wash my hair. Apparently, Paul and loves hair.
SPEAKER_05Makes sense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Anyways, I feel like this is a long time to give Paul in the spotlight.
SPEAKER_05But well, it was a big deal because that was the biggest attack I've I think I've ever seen. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Okay. I need another.
SPEAKER_02Have a drink of coffee. Um, honestly, yeah, it's it's been one of the worst ones that I've had, and for sure, in like years. I remember once as a teenager, um, this is when I really figured out it was Hay or Timothy Grass. I had gone out with some friends into the field to take pictures. Yeah. And no joke, my eyes like went swollen shut. Oh. And I like couldn't I can always breathe. It's not like anaphylactic, you know. But it's like it sounds like you can't because you're just like drowning. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh man.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, and that was the first time. Like, that was a really bad one too. That was like when I was like, okay, it's definitely outside.
SPEAKER_05Anyways, you survived, you've done better.
SPEAKER_02And now I'm like, I'm rolling in with a whole kit every time I go outside to try and just prevent anything from taking me out.
SPEAKER_05That's good. That's good. Now you know.
SPEAKER_01Now the more you know.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. But um besides that, we we've had some fantastic weddings that we've been a little bit a part of already this season. But like we we kicked it off with a bang, I I I feel like, because I think it was just video for Josh and I uh at the beginning of May.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Josh and I went and shot at, and this is a new venue for me, uh although he I think he's been there before. Um, but this is the Griffin House in in the in the Columbia River Gorge, like right down the road from the Gorge Hotel.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um and holy smokes, like this place is gorgeous, just fantastic. And everything is close together.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05And it's for like smaller wedding.
SPEAKER_02It's a dream.
SPEAKER_05Oh man, it was great. So that first one, um, it was the one the one rough thing there is the wind. Yeah. That's like the trade-off out there, is you get that those high winds uh because you're right on the bluffs of the gorge. And so that one in particular, although the one we just did was a little windier than I was expecting, but this uh this first one, we hit wind speeds of like 45 miles an hour at points.
SPEAKER_02That's like hold on to your children.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah. And the DJ, uh Jason, who is there quite quite often, he was saying how he's probably only seen one other wedding that's been windier than that one.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow.
SPEAKER_05And that one he would act because he's a windsurfer, I guess. And so he would he's uh he's able to look down at the water and kind of tell based on how the water breaks and stuff like that. Um and so uh yeah, that was that was insane that day, the the win, but um, but it actually translated really beautifully in the in the film up there. And speaking of which, you edited their film, sweetheart. You did so good.
SPEAKER_01Thank you.
SPEAKER_05And it turned out it turned out so good. And um I had a lot of fun. Yeah, why don't you tell us a little bit about your experience doing that?
SPEAKER_02Okay. Um uh well fun fact is back in the day, like before I ever started doing photos, um, like at with a comp building the company, I did work in video stuff. Video uh I don't want to call it production, but like in on a video team.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And also did video stuff for I would say it was a video production team. You think so? Okay.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well it was for church. So you guys were producing videos.
SPEAKER_02We were oh, that's true. Yeah. That is what that means. That was literally what it was. It was just there was no production uh like as far as prep elements to it at all. It was literally get your assignment, shoot it that day, and then mm like rush edit.
SPEAKER_05So it was maybe video scramble team.
SPEAKER_02There you go. That feels more accurate. Um and editing was a small part of what I did, but but I edited a lot of our own videos for a ministry that we did, and that was always very fun. My brain likes to see stories like that, like um even like this stuff we just did with Groove Nation likes to plot them out and like create that way.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I well, obviously I love doing photos, it's not the same at all. So um, I haven't done anything like that in a long time. And I attempted to start one last season because I was like, oh, that sounds really fun. And it was like our our last local wedding of the season. And in case you don't know, like when you're shooting weddings, multiple weddings every weekend, all summer and all fall, like the backlog gets higher and higher the further.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it happens real quick. Already had.
SPEAKER_02So I started it, and you're like, let me help.
SPEAKER_05You got the ball rolling.
SPEAKER_02I did, but then I got overwhelmed. So um this year I was like, I want to try again, I want to do it. Let me start at the beginning of the season because then I don't have the backlog. So that was perfect. Um, and it was very fun. I I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot because it's everything's different and uh obviously a different space than what I used to do, and and um it's just been a long time. So yeah, and that was very fun. It is interesting doing that when I wasn't there on the day. Like so there there was like a little bit of maybe a different factor there that I was trying to interpret things, you know, without actually being there feeling it and all that kind of stuff. But but yeah, I enjoyed it. I would like to do it again, but we'll see if I haven't have the time for it, yeah.
SPEAKER_05We'll figure that out, but you did really well. I mean, I had I had minimal input, I think, on this one, and um, you know, just helped on finessing a a couple things when you got stuck on some things. But yeah, as far as my efforts in it, I it was really nice to just get that whole thing basically done from you and just kind of clean up, you know, a little things, and then obviously color grade and final sound and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, I mean you're downplaying your effort because what you do is very important, like it definitely like finesses the whole thing. I was trying to explain it to my mom because she was like, wait, so you you did it or Sean did it? I was like, I it's basically like I built it and you like painted it, put all the finishing touches. Like if it was carpentry, like a house, you would do all of the finishing stuff, you know.
SPEAKER_05It was an excellent foundation and structure and everything, and it was all ready for me, which is really nice. Which sometimes that you know doesn't even happen for my own edits. Sure. And so yeah, you did you did a great job, sweetheart. And I'm really, really pleased with how it turned out.
SPEAKER_02Oh good. I hope they like it.
SPEAKER_05I think they'll love it. Yeah, I think they'll love it. But anyways, that venue was that was my first experience there. And um Amanda, uh our our our dear friend Amanda was the coordinator of that day, and she's amazing. She's she's one of my favorites for we have many favorites, but she's she's one of my favorites because obviously we we know her.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_05Um, but she just uh she brings a very calm energy with her um on on wedding days, which like it's a it's a big deal uh for a coordinator because they can they can kind of set the tone for sure themselves with with how they carry themselves on the day and how they interact with people and and direct things and stuff like that. And she just is so professional, so kind, just so that that calm energy, just laid back, but yeah, but getting things done. Like you can tell, obviously, that she's getting everything done.
SPEAKER_02She's put in all the work and everything, but um I feel like she's so prepared and she is so like she anticipates everything and prepares whatever she anticipates ahead of time that she's able to just be there you go chill and in the moment. I I love her so much. Um, fun fact, we used to be like neighbors basically. So I I love that I've seen her do her mom thing, yeah, and then see her just crushing it, you know.
SPEAKER_05So girl, yeah, you go so good. I love it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh and I am so excited to have worked with her this last week because over the years, like there have been so many weddings that we've worked with her that I personally haven't been there. So like I help I I help set the team up with all the back end with her, you know, and then it's like go play and it just I'm sad and have FOMO. Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_05She was sad that you weren't there that day. But like you said, we were just with her again back at the Griffin House.
SPEAKER_02Yes, okay. So just so people aren't getting confused, we had a wedding the beginning of May.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_02Video only with you and Josh shot it, and that was at the Griffin House. Then this last week, so um this was mid-June, June 11th, I think it was, or something like that. We were back there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um for a second time.
SPEAKER_02Yes, and this time it was photo and video. We had the Bermans with us, and it was awesome.
SPEAKER_05It was great.
SPEAKER_02Yes. But before that, we did three other weddings.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We had done a lot of weddings within two weeks. I think it was within like 10 days. Um that was awesome. Was it four? No, four total within ten days, I think. No. I need more coffee.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, because I did um I know I did a f photo only with you.
SPEAKER_02We did two.
SPEAKER_05Two photo only. Yeah. Oh yeah. Addie and Addy and Alex. Alex.
SPEAKER_02And then Presley and Brandon.
SPEAKER_05Presley and Brandon.
SPEAKER_02And then Daphne and Louise was uh yes, and then Michael and Hannah was also within that two-week period.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah. Holy moly. Yeah, that was a lot.
SPEAKER_02It was a whirlwind, but I loved it.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, yeah. They were on a Sunday.
SPEAKER_02They were on a Sunday, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Okay, so I need I need we need to fill in like what we've been doing here, because okay. So let me go back.
SPEAKER_02Okay, let's fill in our own brain. So yeah.
SPEAKER_05And and I need to um give a shout out to one of our newest members of our of our team, yeah, Jonathan, who um I've known their family, we've known their family for a long time through church and everything. Um, but uh, but he um I haven't seen him in a long time. I think he used to come to to church back when he was younger and everything, but I hadn't seen him in a long time and I didn't really know him. But his brother reached out to me at an event that I was uh shooting and wanted to get us connected. So he did. Went down to Lava Jabba.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Shout out Lava Java, had a little meeting, and and like the very next day, I got him connected with Amplify, who is who I contract with for all my real estate stuff, and so got him some work doing that. He came out with me for training on a shoot. Um, and then we actually got him connected to shoot a wedding for a friend of ours that we couldn't be there for and everything. And then he came out and second uh second shot for us on that Sunday, so May 31st at Hannah Michael's wedding. Yeah. That was his first wedding with us, and he did a great job.
SPEAKER_00So good.
SPEAKER_05Great job.
SPEAKER_00Uh so proud of you. You did awesome.
SPEAKER_05I know he did so good. It's quite different because he he is very talented, uh, very talented photographer. He does music videos. Um, he actually just recently uh finished up a music video project for a friend of ours, Garrett, who uh who opened um his uh barber shop downtown Ridgefield, actually, um, like on June 1st or something like that.
SPEAKER_02Busy, busy.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So, but anyways, that's a very different style than weddings, obviously. And and he has some experience shooting photos for weddings, um, but he didn't have any experience shooting video for weddings. So that was a new experience for him.
SPEAKER_02So perfect.
SPEAKER_05Uh he did a great job. And um, but uh the day before that I went out and did like a drone-only shoot for like a car show type thing, type event, which was uh unique. That's not something I normally do, but um, it's always fun to do different things. So that was a lot of fun. And then you've been crazy busy doing all sorts of shoots too. Um and uh We're in it. Yeah, we are fully in it. Like that first week of June was insanity. We had that Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, finally had a break on Thursday, another shoot on Friday, then double wedding weekend, and then we then we had a a breather on Monday, June 8th, and then uh back into it for uh a few things for the rest of the week. And then this last weekend, we had nothing on the calendar for Saturday.
SPEAKER_02That was the craziest thing, and great, because I was quarantined.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. But yeah, oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02I think I think God knew he was like, Yeah, yeah, you need this weekend off.
SPEAKER_05Need a breather.
SPEAKER_02Otherwise, like you're gonna just go crazy with these.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that was calling. It was it was a needed break for sure.
SPEAKER_02Plus, it was like 90 degrees.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it was warm. Yeah, it was really warm. And then we served at church yesterday.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_05Um that morning, which was it's always great to go serve and uh and be in the house of the Lord. Amen. It was a good it was a good day yesterday.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It was really good day.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I really enjoyed all of it. Um and uh Okay, can we go back and talk about these weddings just a yeah?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I yeah, I I would love to. I was just trying to wrap my brain around all that whirlwind of a it is a whirlwind.
SPEAKER_02And I was just telling Sean this morning, like now my goal this week, because I have a few days where there's no shoots, is to just like lock in and edit. Cause like you guys gotta remember with all of these shoots comes like a whole like whole backlog.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, hours and hours and hours.
SPEAKER_02Which they were all so great that I'm actually really excited.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So um uh I mean if we go into depth about each of these weddings, it's gonna take yeah forever. We won't have to go. So maybe we can just tell like an overview of each one, and then maybe like each of us can mention one or one of our favorite things that day.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, okay.
SPEAKER_05So should we start with which one do you want to start with?
SPEAKER_02Let's start with Michael and Hannah's because I think that's all that's happened since the last time we did a podcast.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_02Um so first of all, I love those two so much. Like so sweet. They are so sweet. I just it's a huge blessing that like the Lord kind of brought us all together. And they like even in their inquiry with us, um, you know, they reached out because well, we work at the venue a lot, so yeah, um, they got our info there, but also they saw on our website, you know, that we love Jesus and they were just really like excited to have that connection. And so that makes me happy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um same. And we had a blast on their engagement shoot, so I knew the wedding was gonna be fun. Um, and it it was a blast. Like the guys were so fun, they did so many fun things. Um, the the girls were hilarious, they were just always being so fun with each other and cracking little jokes and cute kids running around. Oh my gosh, so many cute kids. Yeah, yeah. Um, the weather was fantastic.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it was it was sunny, but it wasn't too hot.
SPEAKER_02It was like 65 or something. It was perfect.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, and I'm trying to think of like what I would say was I mean, they are my favorite part about the day, but I I think with uh and the the officiant mentioned it in this at the ceremony, but they were just very intentional throughout the whole day about about everything that they were doing.
SPEAKER_05Yes, not that you know couples aren't aren't intentional, obviously, but I think intentional as far as keeping Christ at the center of everything that they were doing was was something that they were very intentional about, like not kissing before the ceremony. Um which I got in trouble because I'm like I I get in the I get in my mode of getting all my shots and stuff like that, you know, and I'm doing this movement around them, it's beautiful. And I'm like, okay, now kiss. And they're like, everybody's like, err, we're not kissing before the ceremony. I'm like, oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01Well, how do you know? I mean, we didn't isn't that something we ask of.
SPEAKER_05Well, as soon as I said it, I'm like, I bet they're not gonna kiss before the ceremony. So I knew it. I just I I it was a reflex. That's okay.
SPEAKER_02It was a reflex. It's okay, but I loved it. Um yeah, they were great.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, probably one of my favorite moments was during their ceremony, they had worship. Like they had somebody playing, yeah, and and singing a song, and like all of all of them were worshiping.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, and it wasn't like just singing along, like there were yeah, there were worshipers there.
SPEAKER_02I loved that. I I um again very intentional, and I think that's something you probably don't get to see very often. I know we don't, but like it's just uh made my heart happy. Yeah, um it was great. It was a perfect amount of like joy and and fun and romantic and just all the things. I love it.
SPEAKER_05Um one funny thing that happened was when we have so many things going on, sometimes our schedules get mixed up, and so oh no, it wasn't that one. It wasn't that one that that we had uh messed up our our coverage time or whatever. But although uh we did an exit with them, um and uh they had the streamers and and stuff like that, and the lighting was oh, it's perfect. Oh my gosh. And this was the first time that I've actually put a light behind and like just shot straight through. Yeah. And there's there's many ways that I can go about how I set up the light and like what color temperature I set the light to to get a certain look and everything. And I decided to make it really warm to kind of simulate, you know, the um the sunset, you know, kind of glow, warm glow behind them. And that actually turned out really, really good. And so I was pretty happy with that. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That was beautiful. Yeah, it was a great time. Uh we got to work with Tara from I think it's Radiance. Oh gosh. Oh gosh, I think I need more coffee, but anyways, I know her name's Tara, and I she's lovely. I loved working with her. Um and yeah, the whole day was great. Yes. I'm a fan. The only the literally the only downside was pollen.
SPEAKER_05Yep. Um yeah, Jonathan was there with us on that day and he suffered as well.
SPEAKER_02Yes, we both were just yeah it was rough. Um, fun fact if you have one of those Listerine strips, you know, like oh yeah. For when you have bad breath, like if you put that to the roof of your mouth, uh-huh, that gives you temporarily like temporary relief. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Oh wow, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we were both like going through there. It was like, okay, it's wearing off. Here's another one. Yeah. So that's awesome. Yeah. I should order more of those. They don't, they're not fun, they're not very tasty. But anyways, it worked. Anyway, so that was a great day. Um okay, and then to the following weekend.
SPEAKER_05Addie and Alex was the next one. That was photo only.
SPEAKER_02This was um, again, another couple that I was super excited to work with. Um, we were connected through our buddy Zach, who's a phenomenal DJ.
SPEAKER_05This is another venue, new venue for us.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um, so it was way down in like Corvallis or something like that. Almost Corvallis. Almost Corvallis. Yeah, it was what's oh my gosh. Albany.
SPEAKER_05Albany.
SPEAKER_02That's it. I was like, it starts with an A.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like everything else. Addie, Alex, and Albany.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Um Alex and Albany.
SPEAKER_02Yes. And so um I had a blast with them on their engagement session too. So it was like, this is gonna be great. Um, this venue was uh a garden lakeside venue, and it was really pretty. It was the weather was crazy that day.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, that was crazy weather day. Because here at back home they had actually thunderstorms.
SPEAKER_02Yes, and like hail and stuff. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, which I'm thankful we didn't, yeah.
SPEAKER_02We get we didn't get that bad, but no, yeah, no, we got rain and like wind a bit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. But weather changed like five different times that day.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was like on a dime it would change. But it would we had sunshine too. It was kind of crazy. Yeah. Um, but I was actually really glad that we had cloud cover at some points because it made the the venue look so like all the colors just popped with it being in that light.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes, it was beautiful, beautiful place. Um honestly, everywhere we've been so far is like so pretty. Um, these two are just adorable together.
SPEAKER_05Super fun wedding parties with them. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So fun. Of course, the party part of it was yeah.
SPEAKER_05Well, I mean Zach is Zach is awesome.
SPEAKER_02We got to work with Cam again. She's 15 years old.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I love her.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was just again, like a smooth, like wonderful day.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Despite the weather.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Actually, the way that it fell, like, actually worked out pretty well because it did. Because all the big moments that we had them outside, like first look, yep. It was nice.
SPEAKER_00It was like sunny. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Ceremony for the majority of it was nice until the the recessional.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. When they walked out and then it started sprinkling a little bit, or like right at the end of the it was right when Zach was like, I pronounce you husband and wife, it started raining a little bit. Like, like it was confetti or something.
SPEAKER_05There's some photos of him just like looking up because he's like, Oh, it's raining.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And then it stopped.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah, he officiated. We we should even mention that because that's the first time he he's officiated. Obviously, he's not gonna do that for everybody. No, but I said, You better be careful because he recorded himself. Yeah, and he did a great job.
SPEAKER_03So good.
SPEAKER_05Don't be promoting that because you're gonna have couples, yeah. You're gonna have couples asking you to do that too, along with your DJ services.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, he did a great job. Yeah, um, yeah, that was that was great. Yeah. Um try to think of what my favorite parts were. I mean, all of it really great.
SPEAKER_05The couple intros um were pretty epic. Like they had lights and fog and everything, and all the couples would come in and do like a you know fun thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and it was um grand entrance. Who recorded it? It was someone.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, the announcer, um, oh gosh.
SPEAKER_02Was it somebody from the Mavericks?
SPEAKER_05What wait, yeah, maybe Dallas Mavericks. Yeah, I can't.
SPEAKER_02It was some team, like I'm sorry. I know that's a big deal to them, what whoever it was. Um I cannot remember who it was.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I uh I'm I'm blanking right now, but but it was cool.
SPEAKER_02It was like a professional announcer, had all of their information recorded it.
SPEAKER_05It was like a starting lineup kind of announcement thing, and it was really, really fun.
SPEAKER_02It was great, yeah.
SPEAKER_05It was really special.
SPEAKER_02Good day.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Long drive for us, but it was okay.
SPEAKER_05Yep, long drive.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, more time for Harry Potter audiobook.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, okay. So the next day we were back at Vintage Gardens, which is where we were before, which we loved Harry.
SPEAKER_04Oh.
SPEAKER_02It's an amazing place. It's uh home away from home.
SPEAKER_04Yep. I love Vintage Gardens.
SPEAKER_02And this was for Presley and Brandon's, who they are so sweet. We know them from church. And um they're just I I love the way they look at each other.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That was probably my favorite, like besides being like just a fun day. Like the two of them, whenever they were like apart from each other, they were they were fine, like having an okay time, but when they got together, you could tell.
SPEAKER_05It was just like everything is right with the world, melted.
SPEAKER_02Like it was so cool, so cute. Um, so that was really fun. We got to see a lot of people we knew there. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um kind of a culmination of Kessid Church where we attend now, and Vancouver Church, which I used to pastor at. And so that's where I first met Brandon way back then, because he was part of the youth way back then.
SPEAKER_02So like a reunion.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. And his family is long, long history at first church.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, yeah, very cool. Um, this one we got to work with some amazing people for this one too. Um, this is the one that Sean was saying. Funny story. We mixed up timelines. That would be my 41 and a half year old brain thing. When I try to remember it off the top of my head, occasionally it's not correct. So yes, please please call me out when I need to.
SPEAKER_05The day before we were like a half hour um earlier with our timeline.
SPEAKER_02So yes. So Saturday wedding and Sunday's weddings were almost a time frame, same time frame, only like an hour or a half hour shift.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And and so I locked it in my brain. And so at one point it was like, oh, it's time to do the staged exit or whatever.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because we're leaving. But we weren't.
SPEAKER_05It was like Yeah, we had another hour and a half.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, hour. So it's like I said the wrong time because I was just like mixing up the days or something like that. It ended up being fine and actually working out better because of light and because of a bunch of different things, but I'm it's okay.
SPEAKER_05Yay, 40.
SPEAKER_02And all that comes with that. Women will understand.
SPEAKER_05It was good. It worked out really well. The lighting was perfect, and they did bubbles at so. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and this is a perfect example of when you can do like a staged exit, and when you just announce it as a photo opportunity, basically, like so that people don't leave. And it was great because majority of people stayed, minus like the people who had like really young ones who needed to leave anyway, and they were still able to be a part of that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, and so we did their bubble thing, and then we're like, and now everybody follow them into the dance floor.
SPEAKER_05Actually, you're right, because there was a little bit of a lull, like in the reception happening at that time, and so it was like the perfect just interjection right there, uh, to gather everybody and to get everybody pumped up again. And then yeah, like we called them back in to go to the dance floor, and they just went in there and just started partying. And they did, they went all the way till till we left. Like, I wasn't expecting that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, but yeah, they went in there and they just they were having a great time.
SPEAKER_02I loved it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it worked out really well.
SPEAKER_02And they got married in so at Vintage Gardens, there's two ceremony spots, and these guys were back in the hidden forest area or hidden garden. Yeah, and that's just really, really beautiful back there. And so it was fun to kind of switch them up that between the two since we were there like a week apart, basically.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um and yeah, it was it was a good time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Love those guys, so happy for them.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so happy. Um last last one we just did back at um the Griffin House.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Okay, can I just say this venue has been on my bucket list for years, and just for whatever reason, it hasn't worked out to shoot a wedding there. We've had inquiries before, but they it's been like, oh, we're booked or whatever, you know. And so the fact that the stars aligned this time.
SPEAKER_04Yep. Love it.
SPEAKER_02I was just so pumped.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, yes, and I, my goodness, you probably could not do anything to keep me from getting there. So I was like, we gotta do this. I'm so excited. Yeah. Plus, the couple, Daphne and Luis, are um just a joy. I also, once again, got to do an engagement session with these guys, and it was so fun. Fun fact for that, is they brought their cat to the engagement session, which I've never had happen before. And I loved it. Um like they live up north several hours away, so they planned a whole weekend to come down to Portland area and uh like do a bunch of wedding stuff, and that's when we did their engagement session at like 8 30 on a Monday morning. No, like how awesome is that? Yeah, and they're like, and we're bringing our cat, and I'm like, okay. Uh and it was next to a waterfall.
SPEAKER_05Oh no.
SPEAKER_02And the cat just poor buddy, he just was not having it. So I don't blame him. He's an indoor cat. We had him on a leash for a little bit. It was so oh my gosh, it was I will probably forever remember that. But, anyways, they're beautiful, they're so sweet together, they just really love each other. And um, so that was exciting. And also, it was a Thursday wedding, which was awesome. Yeah, weekday weddings, yeah, and a destination wedding for them because they don't live here, they live up north. But most of their family is in like either California or Mexico, and so all of them came in again, smaller wedding because of the venue. Um, yeah, but those are my favorite ideas.
SPEAKER_05I know, yeah. It's great.
SPEAKER_02I love that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. And I think if the venue can comfortably support larger ones, then that's fine. But it's when the venue is like crammed to the max. Yeah. That's when it gets a little uncomfortable and it's a little harder to navigate. But this this wedding size was perfect for the Griffin House and how they had it laid out. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It was dreamy.
SPEAKER_05And she's a ballerina or I think so.
SPEAKER_02Um at least a dancer. I mean, she's a I mean, I'm pretty sure she was a ballerina, if not a skill. Like she has been trained.
SPEAKER_05That was clear.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_05Um, she just moves so elegantly.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Um in fact, when we did our engagement shoot within like two minutes of shooting, I I asked her, I was like, Are you a ballerina? Are you a dancer? Because she just immediately went into this pose.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That I was like, Okay, you're like almost on point. What is what is happening? Yeah. Um, and she, yeah, very graceful, very uh yeah. That and so that was very fun. And also, I love how true to herself she was with all of it. Like she made some both of them made choices in their wedding style that are not as like traditional, traditional, typical. She had a T-length dress, you know, a short veil. And yeah, we haven't seen stuff like that really. It's and so I loved that. She was like, No, I gotta be able to dance in it. Yeah, that was like her priority for the I love it.
SPEAKER_04I love it.
SPEAKER_02Um speaking of dance, oh my gosh, that might be one of the best parts about the day.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02My high like highlights-wise, you know, I don't know, it's hard to pick, but they had a whole choreographed first dance.
SPEAKER_05Um, that was amazing. And they wanted to make sure and send us as much info on it as possible. So we sent them the or we will send them the full cut of their of their first dance and everything. But they sent us a video of them rehearsing it at the studio. Um, they sent a diagram of their starting positions in the reception area, which all that was so helpful and exciting because I love that stuff. And so I and and actually when I was editing it, I was noticing that my experience now doing groove nation stuff really helped my decision making in the cuts that I would make and stuff like that. Because I've I've learned that you don't make cuts on the beat. You don't make cuts on the beat because typically they'll be doing a movement on the yeah on the beat.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, and so you don't want to cut that in half because you're kind of taking away from that. And so, but um, that was that was incredible by far like the most elegant first dance I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, even the DJ said, like in all his years of doing this, he's never and um yeah, and because it was choreographed, but it was four minutes 20 seconds choreographed, like it was a show.
SPEAKER_05Yes, yeah, four minutes 20 seconds long, yeah, first dance.
SPEAKER_02And they went through several styles of dancing within it. So that was it was just so fun. They they turned to like sorry, bless you, they turned to every like corner in the room, you know, and just Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I loved watching her facial expressions and everything when she would see her friends and family and everything. She's like a Disney princess.
SPEAKER_02She is.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Very animated.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_02Very joyful.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yes. I loved it. And of course the weather was beautiful.
SPEAKER_05It was windy, but not anywhere near as windy as not as windy, but it did get a little bit more windy than I was anticipating.
SPEAKER_02Um, here's another fun fact. Did you know that Hood River is the windsurfing capital of the world?
SPEAKER_05I kind of figured as much because whenever you drive through and you look into the the river there and you see all the windsurfers. Yes.
SPEAKER_02And there was a ton out that day.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah. I figured it was at least like of W Washington, Oregon. I mean, I guess Oregon, but it's on the border there, right?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But of the world.
SPEAKER_05That's crazy.
SPEAKER_02That is crazy. It also makes a lot of sense why it's so windy.
SPEAKER_05It's windy because they're there, or they're there because it's windy. Chicken and the egg.
SPEAKER_02Wow. I bet you a lot of them are praying for wind. Yeah. So maybe both. Like they're praying for wind while the people who are getting married are like, please don't read. Yeah, praying. They're praying. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Oh, uh, and the dance floor. Shout out to Amanda for coordinating and getting that dance floor there. Yeah. It was a black and white checkered dance floor and everything. And I got a couple drone shots from above that show showed it off.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Cool through the the tent, the see-through tent, which I love that tent.
SPEAKER_02That tent's amazing.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, a couple other fun things were it it was a World Cup. Oh, yeah. Like it is still now. Right, right.
SPEAKER_05Mexico is playing.
SPEAKER_02Mexico was playing that day. And so like all of the men were watching the game. Yeah. And that was so cute. Like, yeah, whatever you call it. It's a game. It's still a game. Can you tell I don't watch soccer? Uh, anyways, but yeah, it was so cute. Uh coming down the stairs into like the gentleman's getting ready area, and they were all just glued to that TV. And uh, I'm like just quickly saying hi, you know, I don't want to interrupt. And one of them, I can't remember which one, it was like, we're winning. Uh it was great. And and they spoke Spanish, most of them, which I never learned I should have, but um, it was really cool to see like how yeah, how um everybody worked together, even the people who were English speaking or Spanish speaking. Yeah, um, like Jason the DJ did amazing. I was so impressed with him. Like he made every announcement in English and Spanish.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And he's like, and I'm not a fluent Spanish speaker. And I was like, Well, you fooled me because that was amazing.
SPEAKER_05He went above and beyond for that. That was really impressive.
SPEAKER_02Very cool. Um, and then the other thing was the eagle. Did you see the eagle? Yes, I did.
SPEAKER_05Okay, yes, I did.
SPEAKER_02So when we did their engagement session, there was a bald eagle that flew like really close to us and then landed uh on a tree right across the river and just hung out. And it was so cool. And then for the wedding, there was a bald eagle that kept flying like eye-level.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02He was there at least twice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And uh Daphne was freaking out because she loves birds, and that that particular bird is pretty incredible. So that was really cool.
SPEAKER_05I had to bring my drone back because the eagle was circling my drone.
SPEAKER_02I didn't even think about that.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Was it like, oh, a toy?
SPEAKER_05Just curious, and if need be, take it out. Right? So I was I was I had to go out there and quickly get what I needed to get and then bring it in.
SPEAKER_02Um and that's oh man, I didn't even think about that. Because also, you can't just like buy a new drone. Nope, I can't anymore. Not anymore. I don't know if anyone else who doesn't fly drones know knows that, but there's a bunch of regulations and there's a DJI ban now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So and DJI is like the top they have been, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like producer of drones in that category anyway. So we either need the band to go away or somebody else to step up and manufacture them in the country so that affordably. Affordably, yes, please. So that we can have backups.
SPEAKER_05Gosh.
SPEAKER_02But I didn't even think about the eagle. Yeah. I mean, there were birds all over the place, but that one was massive. And but it was pretty cool.
SPEAKER_05Um it was a great day.
SPEAKER_02I was trying to get a picture of it. It flew by right when we were doing family photos, and I was so mad because I had like they fly pretty fast, you know. And I had my camera with my 24 to 70 in my hand. Yeah. And I had it set up with like off-camera flash and all like just totally the wrong setup to capture a bird.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I just I I got it, but it's like a a speck right in my photo. Yeah. You know, you can zoom in, but you have to zoom in so much that it's like not very clear. And I'm like, she's like, did you get it? And I'm like, I did, but not the way I wanted to because I didn't know it was happening.
SPEAKER_05So sad.
SPEAKER_02The only time of the day where I'm set up that way. Yeah. Like I'm almost always on the other camera doing it.
SPEAKER_05It's okay. It's a memory they'll cherish in their hearts.
SPEAKER_02I just wanted him to come back so I could properly get that photo of him.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But whatever. It's fine. It is a memory.
SPEAKER_05Yep. Great memory.
SPEAKER_02Oh, so many good things. Like, seriously, all of the couples have been amazing. All of the the vendors were amazing.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But we didn't have too many hiccups.
SPEAKER_05No, it's been a really great start to the season.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. But yeah, that's our those are our updates. That's why it's been a while. It's been insanely busy around here. But now we have a little time this week to do some catch up.
SPEAKER_02A wee bit.
SPEAKER_05A wee bit.
SPEAKER_02Yep. And then back at it this weekend.
SPEAKER_05Yep. Back at it. Two two days in a row. Oh, the um, so we're at uh how do you say that again? Jaqua.
SPEAKER_01I think it's jaqua.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Jaqua vineyard. Um photo only on Saturday. And then we're at a new venue.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05Craig Rat Hut, which is another gorge uh venue.
SPEAKER_02Excited.
SPEAKER_05Which I think we booked that because of the the first um the Griffin House. Uh Griffin House wedding that we that we did, which is pretty cool. Um, and you're you're gonna be my second that day.
SPEAKER_02I'm so excited.
SPEAKER_05Father's Day wedding.
SPEAKER_02Yay.
SPEAKER_05So that would be fun.
SPEAKER_02It will be fun.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So anyways.
SPEAKER_01There it is. Yeah. Whoop, there it is. Whoop, there it is.
SPEAKER_04That's our update.
SPEAKER_01Are you entertained? Yay.
SPEAKER_05Thanks for joining us, guys. We'll see you in the next episode. Bye.
SPEAKER_01Bye.
