Tonight’s topic is a condition that doesn’t get enough attention…

Huntington’s Disease.

This is a genetic neurological disorder…

That affects:

• movement
 • cognition
 • behavior

Over time, it can lead to:

• involuntary movements
 • difficulty speaking
 • memory decline
 • emotional changes

This is not just a condition.

This is a life-altering diagnosis—for individuals and families.

So the question becomes:

Where does cannabis fit into neurological conditions like this?

SPEAKER_00

All right, welcome friends, stoners, and Canada fans to the latest episode of The Cannabis Chronicles. I'm your boy, Dr. Bong, and uh coming to you live from the Black Unicorn Division Studios, Bronx, New York, and uh having a good time here. Uh nice warm spring night here in the Bronx. And um, as I said, we are the Cannabis Chronicles, and uh opening uh we got one of our many friends of the show, hopping on with us. We're looking for our boy Joseph, aka JQ. So we look forward to hearing from him. Big shout out to our friend, the one and only WoW Bill Waffert, and sending uh healing prayers and energy to WoW Bill, uh Wow Bill's dad, Mr. Waffert. We're sending him uh energy so he gets better and he heals. So Wow Bill, uh Professor Waffles will not be joining us today on today's show. But as I said, we still got a nice show headed up for you. Um as I said, I'm your boy, Dr. Bond. We are the cannabis chronicles. So welcome, friends, stoners, and can of fam. This is the cannabis chronicles presented by Star Enterprises. I'm Dr. Bond. And here we educate, elevate, and advocate because cannabis is medicine. So tonight's topic is a condition that doesn't get, doesn't get enough attention, you know. Um, and one of the things we do here at the cannabis chronicles is because we talk about medical cannabis, we also talk about different subjects, different things that folks might not, you know, be talking about. We're not talking about the latest strain, even though we talk about that as well. We sprinkle that into the show later on. But we talk about these medical conditions that many of us, many of our friends, family, uh, and our friends, family, and Canada fam are suffering from. And again, like I said, tonight's topic is a condition that doesn't get enough attention. We're going to give it something today, and it's called Huntington's disease. Now, this is a genetic neurological disorder. Let me see that again, a genetic neurological disorder. And it affects movement, cognition, and behavior. Now, over time, it can it can cause some problems. It can lead to uh involuntary movements. Um, some folks experience difficulty speaking, memory decline, emotional changes. And so we we see this is not just this is not just a condition, but it is a life-altering diagnosis for not only individuals, but for their families. So where we come in is uh so where the question lies is where does cannabis fit into neurological conditions like Huntington's disease? Tonight we're going to explore this through um uh four different lenses. We're gonna check it out through business, um, culture, health, and my favorite uh segment, popourri. So uh let's begin. The cannabis industry is evolving into something more than retail, and we're seeing increased focus on uh neurological conditions, symptom management, and patient-centered care. If you remember the uh the topic the uh last week, two weeks ago, we talked about how now the bud tenders are more informed and they're better able to answer questions because you're not only gonna get those questions about retail products, about those retail questions, but sometimes you're gonna get sprinkled in some uh medical questions and you should be able to answer them. But as we say all the time, I am not a doctor. I am I play a doctor on this particular role, but uh I am not your doctor. If you feel you want to uh if you want to find out more about medical cannabis, you can start out with your uh PCP, your primary care physician, and then you can uh transition and go to the Office of Cannabis Management website. Um they have an extensive website if you want to do some research before you jump into it, or you want to find out where you can find a physician in your neighborhood, in your area, to um to help you get certified with your medical cannabis if that's what you choose to do. So we're seeing increases in uh you know uh patient-centered care, neurological conditions, and symptom management. So an article um from marijuana moment, it highlighted that you know, cannabis cells are rising, and on the other hand, alcohol consumption is declining. So um that's been something that I've seen throughout, you know, throughout my experience with with cannabis. Um the fact that, you know, um at places that introduce uh or become adult use 21 over, they um they find an increase in um or excuse me, a decrease in alcohol consumption. And and conversely, you know, we would think that the the information is trying to lead folks to believe that with more um looser regulations with cannabis, that more uh younger people will get involved. And that's just not the case. That's just not how it's it's panning out. You know, it it does definitely uh, I think it warrants some more research and some more things to I mean, we there's so many more things to ferret out. So uh the key takeaways from this for me and maybe for you guys, uh, is that consumers are becoming more intentional. They're not just going to a dispensary, you know, and throwing a dart at the dartboard, aka the menu, and just or any meeny miny mo and you know, trying to find a product that works for them that way, where they're actually doing their research before they go into the dispensary. And they're more educated consumers, which for me as a butt tender was always uh very, very valuable. I for me I didn't rally I didn't rel I didn't uh I relished, excuse me, uh the conversation because it it transitioned from that, and it was primarily primarily that in the very beginning, in the beginning of the medical cannabis um program here in New York, you know, 70 to 80, 90 percent of my my conversations, my consultations, what we called them back then, were based on uh medical conditions that that particular individual was dealing with or having to deal with. And so we were coming up and helping them find out ways to improve the quality of their life by relieving the conditions associated with those conditions and diseases. So as I said, you know, um can consumers, cannabis consumers are definitely becoming more intentional. They um for me, like I said, the um the key for me is, you know, when I can educate somebody, when I can then that person, that patient, that client, however you want to classify them, when that person can come back and have a positive effect, if and then that experience be a positive effect, then I'm all for that. I'm 100% for that. Because then that means that, you know, I I did my job right. You know, when you just when you just kind of take a shot in the dark, I don't think, you know, that kind of works sometimes. So it you know, for me, and it happened over time, is that you know, when cannabis moved from uh it moves from products to purpose-driven consumption. Like people are taking, using and consuming these products for a purpose. Um and again, if that purpose is to improve the quality of their life, then all right, who are we not to be, you know, 100% excuse me, for for for that, for that individual to improve the quality of their life? Because again, for a chronic condition such as chronic pain, which was what I suffer from, which many patients suffer from, like every person has their own pain tolerance, their own pain threshold. For me, as I explained many times, um for me, because I didn't have, I don't have a high tolerance for pain medications, then unfortunately I get debilitated by those products. And unfortunately, that gives me, you know, um that that's an issue for me. So uh what would happen is that you know I would take a product and I would become debilitated and I couldn't function in a normal way. So that kind of, you know, that kind of uh experience is my experience. But other people have similar experiences, or they that it doesn't work, that the medication that they're taking isn't strong enough. So, you know, um we we just have to make sure that we we factor that in because uh when you deal with cannabis, when you deal with any kind of medication, you want to make sure that you have uh understanding what you're doing. And I want to sp I also want to say this cannabis is holistic medication. Holistic medication is medication from the earth, from the um that are that are natural medications, that are natural products. Cannabis is a natural product, yes, people do create different strains from them, but uh that and uh organically it is still the medication, it is still a natural product. So um big shout out to uh friends of the show. Um long time, long, long, long time friends of the show. Shout out to um Best Buds Magazine. Uh you can check them out at bestbudsmagazine.com. Um and there you can check out uh some of our old shows uh where we were um on Instagram live, so I guess you would call that a vlog. So that was pretty cool. That was fun um to see those old outtakes from the old studio. We're getting things set up here where we're going to be able to do that and record because what I do is I upload this. It's probably a good time to pr to plug these as well. Um, but I take this recording, so um, and then I preserve it for future playback, and you can check this out on our plot our podcast platforms. Um we're on Apple Podcasts, we're on Spotify, we're on Amazon Music, we're on iHeart Podcast, we're on Podcast Index, Buzz Sprout, and you can check me out on YouTube. Uh that is BrotherBong420. All right, best buds. All right, Can of Fan. Let's take another poll at uh Perspective. Um, you know, another shout out to uh to uh I wanted to, you know what, I want to change that line. So let's just go to this uh Sage Genetics, shout out to our friends um at Sage Genetics. Um you can't check them out, you can check them out, excuse me, on Instagram. They are at uh uh sage underscore genetics, and that's I on Instagram, let me spell that for you, it's S-A-G-E underscore G-E-N-E-T-I-X, and that's at Instagram, and you can check out some classes. Um, he has a book coming out, and check out some of the really cool pictures of the plants that he shows and he has on his platform. So check them out. All right, Canada Fam, let's take another puff of perspective as we're going as we light this one up. So um, as I said, we can check out our our subject from four different perspectives uh business, culture, health, and potpourri. So uh excuse me, Huntington's disease is often misunderstood. Now, what families face is they have they face emotional strain, they experience caregiving challenges, they also have long-term uncertainty. So um I checked out an ad um and I wanted to, you know, uh I wanted to deep dive and I found something that made me uh just made me like wow, scratch my head. First of all, um, you know, um cannabis uh sales are rising uh and alcohol consumption is declining. So that's just not um that's just not that's just not uh hyperbole, that's not just Dr. Bong talking. Those are true facts. You could take out that article in marijuana moment magazine. Um because what it is is cannabis is evolving into something that's so much more than retail. It is uh education, it is uh I think activism, I definitely think um uh of course my you know my attendance are activation, excuse me, being an activist, activism, excuse me, education, and um the culture. Uh but you know I milk, I milk, no, I I I what do you call that? I uh water it, I don't water it down. How do I say that? Um filter out, I know to stay in our lane. Our lane is the medical space. You want to talk to me about something medical? As a matter of fact, join you can leave a bubble, um, and I can answer your questions here on stereo, and then like I said, you can check us out on our other platforms, and you can follow us on all of those platforms. Like, subscribe, and share. So, as I said, families face emotional strain, caregiving challenges, and long-term uncertainty. So, in that article from Celebrity Stoners, um I uh I revisited, I came back on something that just made me like a wow. And it's been 55 years. It's been 55 years since um the first uh recordings of Chee Chinch. Now, for those of you who don't know who Chee Chinch is or are, they are the pioneers of cannabis comedy. And one of the first uh, I guess one of the first routine, that one of the first routines I heard was uh Dave's not here. Uh so you gotta check that out. Uh it's so funny. It's only like a minute and 45 seconds, but um you could check it out on YouTube. And uh it is actually the original title is Dave. Uh, but uh, you know how stoners are. We kind of took it on our own, made it our own, and um so now it's become Dave's not here. But it's funny, it kind of reminds me, and I'm I know I'm aging myself, dating myself, but uh there was a comedy duo back in the day called Abbott and Costello, and it reminded me of Abbott and Costello and how their delivery was one guy was you know was the uh comedy, and the other guy was very straight, and very, and so that was definitely Cheech and Chong. Uh uh Cheech Marin was the the comedy guy, the Abbott, uh the Costello uh character, and uh uh Tommy Chong was the Abbott character. So in that article, though, um, you know, it it made me think, it made me look at how and where we are now and how we've come from comedy to care. I mean, and like so many people talk about how they saw those, those that heard those routines, and it had to be clandestine to listen to them because it was illegal, you know, at that time, and I mean we talk about 55 years ago, it was illegal to consume cannabis. You couldn't, you know, you couldn't just that was definitely, definitely, definitely counterculture. But it's amazing how far we've come in my lifetime, because in that span of 55 years I've been on this earth. I'm looking at the big 6-0 this year. So, excuse me, um, that was not cool. I apologize. I hope I can I'm gonna edit that out before I put that into the show. Let's see how far we're in. 18 minutes. So I gotta look at 18 minutes in to see if I can get rid of that burp. All right, folks. So uh cannabis has always existed across many, many different spaces. Um, again, another shout out to friends of the show. Uh you know, uh, talk about spaces, talk about places. Shout out to our friends, and I just thought about this. Um went to the parade. I think you guys heard me talk about the first parade, the can uh uh what do you call that? Uh the cannabis day parade, where we walked down Fifth Avenue, ended up in uh not Washington Square Park, it was the other park. Uh anyway, walking down, but before we before we went, uh was March with Canonware, Canonware Society. Shout out to Canada Society, um, and shout out to our boy, my boy Grizz, Abe, Sam Starr, and Nori. Uh join the join the platoon. Um, become part of the Canonware Network. You can join the Canonware United Network at Canonware.org. That's C-A-N-N-A-W-A-R-E.org. You can become those boots on the ground for cannabis and the uh the ever-evolving, the ever-changing uh landscape that we see. Uh we talk about this, we talk about it during the show every week, and it's ever-changing. And if you want to be part of it, be part of the boots on the ground, be part of the real life activism, education, and connections. Check out Canonware Society, that's canonware.org. And also our good friends at Chill Pipes. My boy uh Justin and his team. If you want to check out some really cool uh uh paraphernalia pipes, uh uh I call them bonds, Dr. Bong, obviously. But if you want to check them out, check them out, check out chillstore.com. That's chillstore.com. And you could just get some really give I because I guess words for me, words can't describe these works of art, uh, by you know, works of art, uh no doubt about it. I um I worked with a pharmacist a while back. Uh shout out to Sarah and how you doing? And hopefully you and wifey and baby are good. I heard that uh you guys were expecting, so, but that was a while ago, so I'm pretty sure you got a bundle of joy in their life. So, but yeah, she was definitely uh a collector and she uh was like me. She is like me. Uh I have a little Bond collection, just a small one, you know. It's just my thing. But uh shout out to Justin and his team. And if you want to start your collection, there's no better place to start than at Chill Pipes. And you can check them out at chillstore.com. Justin and the crew, thank you very much. Um, all right, Canada fam, let's take another puff on this one and have another little look and have another little puff of perspective. Our Huntington's disease does affect the brain. Uh according to normal, cannabinoids have been studied for motor control, neurological signaling, and inflammation. Now the key to this one is when the brain signaling is disrupted when the brain signal it's easy for me to say, when the brain's signaling is disrupted, everything else follows. But this is this is this is this is extremely important we say this every week cannabis is not a cure it it it it's it helps to deal with the conditions associated with certain conditions and diseases so shout out to our friends living soil dmv and uh gaitano uh hope the event a couple days ago for eleven uh went well in Rochester um and if you signed up let us know leave us a bubble and let us know and uh you can also if you check out the feed on Bud's feed you can also leave us um fan am and you can let us know how you like the show and all that kind of good good good good good stuff all right so can a family you know what I thought Joseph was gonna be on today and I don't know how to do this because if I leave this platform to text him I'm going to lose the show so I'm not going anywhere uh let's see here we go where you at Joseph where you at where you at Joseph where you at where you at Joseph all right uh so uh I just sent them that so friends of the show Living Soil and Buds Feed Weekly that's right Living Soil Gaetano uh hope you guys had a really cool event and uh last week um last Saturday and uh Buds Feed Weekly Justin and the company you can check Budsfeed out and if you want to check out some if you don't have time to like go through all of the all of the the the the uh information that I go through that I look through to bring you the show on a weekly basis check out uh check out Best Buds magazine and digest it yourself check out Budsfeed weekly and you can take them out at Buds that's Budsfeedweekly.com Budsfeed.com all right all right all right my friends so uh as we move along cannabis is it is very very um many many many times a lot of times we have things that I like to call uh anecdotal or urban legend uh I think my first understanding of that was when um heard somebody talk about glaucoma and it being helpful for uh people who had glaucoma and I didn't understand the now I understand the medical the physical uh relief that it so basically there's anti-inflammatory uh benefits from cannabis so one of and uh glaucoma is pressure behind the eyes that now pushes the eyes that pressure is relieved so then the patient feels relief and the cataracts I'm not too sure about the science on that one but the pressure from uh the other condition was something that benefits folks so we are the cannabis chronicles I am your boy Dr. Bond with weekly candid cannabis community conversation where we talk about cannabis but cannabis is more than just a product it's also a conversation so if you want to be part of the conversation leave us a bubble um and today we're talking about Huntington's disease which is a disease of uh neurological based and when it comes to the brain obviously the conversation is evolving but as I said there also have been um like I said anecdotal or um what you would call um urban legend so recent research into the endocannabinoid system ECS suggests cannabinoids may play a role in how the brain maintains balance so we'll talk about that we talk about pressure we talk about uh uh people who have um neurological conditions uh whether it be um seizures or that kind of stuff or uh would they have spasms would they have spasticity but some studies have explored something called neurogenesis now this process is a process of creating new neurons in the brain so it's neurogenesis so if you have any thoughts on neurogenesis please leave us a bubble and let us know we are the cannabis chronicles with your boy Dr. Baum weekly candid cannabis community conversation we fake is we we focus our conversation on medical perspectives of cannabis even though it's an evolving conversation throughout the nation and throughout our world and our I guess I want to say our health pharmacological life and what we're doing and what we're learning so some studies have said that that you know neurological neurogenesis is a benefit it primarily occurs in the hypocamus campus and these areas are uh linked to memory learning and emotional regulation the early research suggests that cannabinoids may reduce inflammation support neural protection and influence brain signaling but let's be clear about this let's be very clear about this this research is still evolving so we're not looking at a miracle we're looking at a mechanism worth understanding and I am your boy Dr. Bond we are the cannabis chronicles i um we are a weekly candid cannabis community conversation where we try to take our conversation from stigma to science to deeper questions friends of the show big gas dispensary and pen game publishing you can check big gas dispensary at biggas dispensary.com and new polse uh if you're in new polse you could actually check out the dispensary and let us know how your experience was at the dispensary shout out to Ream and his team at Big Gas Dispensary in New Pulse New York great college I love new polls when I was in college I'm a SUNY I'm a SUNY uh graduate shout out to my alma mater uh SUNY Orange although I was trying to fill something out and I couldn't find them listed I had to actually put my alma mater in uh manually it wasn't uh it wasn't a choice to choose from it was um not in the listing and uh looked under SUNY Orange or looked under SUNY uh Orange County Community College it was not there so I feel some kind of way about that we are the cannabis chronicles I'm your boy brother Bong we are weekly candid Cannabis community conversation and if you want to drop us a bubble please feel free to do so and you can also check us out on our platforms we are on Apple we are on Spotify Amazon Music iHeart Podcast Podcast Index Buzz Sprout and also YouTube like I said we are not looking at a miracle we're looking for at a mechanism worth understanding so we go from stigma to science to deeper questions and deeper understandings shout out to our friends at Big Gas Worldwide and Pen Game Publishing if you have kids in your life if you want to marry the two worlds which I think is really cool I think uh DC and his team at Pen Game Publishing really did a great job by marrying two things that you know reading has been around my whole life you know reading's been around for very obviously a very very long time but marrying the technology with this VR this virtual reality technology with the books where you know I don't think I've seen many children now who don't have a either an iPad or you know a tablet or a phone but what these books do is you could point you could point the the uh direct the camera at the book and it brings the book to life so you're marrying and you're introducing folks who may you know children who you know they want to introduce them to um the love of reading and capture them or keep them with the technology from the VR books. So shout out to Pen Game Publishing and uh one of the books I really dig for the young ones in my life is Nyla and the number garden and uh like I said the rest of them are educational and technological library at our friends from our friends at Pen Game Publishing. All right Can of fam let's take another puff of this perspective the cult of our the cult of our spotlight for this week and if you smoke them if you got them smoke them and let us know what you're consuming on. Tonight we are consuming um well as I said we don't consume in this studio consuming is not um allowed in the studio but uh before the show I was consuming a um really cool um offering from our friends from um Sage Genetics called Gorilla Glue Cake. So I'm gonna assume that it's a uh combination a crossing of Gorilla Glue and some kind of cake whether it be wedding cake or any of the other cakes but I got to say uh it's been a long time since I and I don't want to put anything bad karma in the universe but uh you know Sage Genetics has been really just hitting it out the park with their options with their offerings for us and our humble little team here for our review and like I said I review that as five stars uh I would definitely recommend it to my friends and if you want to check it out you can check out uh Leafly and uh Leafly has a breakdown of Strains if you want to check it out but the cultivar spotlight for us and this is one you can check out for yourself is called Harlequin it's balance clear and calming balance without the overwhelm balance without the overwhelm because so many people and I had a funny thing happen um speaking about getting overwhelmed a person can get overwhelmed very quickly um an individual came to me years ago and she was a grandmother and she had said that you know before coming to the dispensary she you know explained to her grandson that she had her medical cannabis card and he began to laugh because he said grandma you don't need to go there I I can take care of you so she uh had deciphered with her grandson uh she started consuming what her grandson had shared with her and he got a phone call in the middle of the session he walked away left her with what he had rolled up she continued to smoke never decided to put it out by the time he came back she had consumed most of it herself subsequently she started to have a bad experience so reluctantly she then came into the dispensary and then um thank thankfully she had me now I'm not too my own horn but again because I had to be in and answer those questions in front of people in public facing and I'm not a person who likes to seem or sound or feel like I don't know you know my product uh any good salesperson is going to tell you that you need to know your product and because there was no guideline and because there was no book I had to go by my instincts I had to go by okay well how did I do this and how did I do that and how did this work in this particular situation and how did that what did that outcome do for me in that particular situation. So again went from you know my lived past experience learned to you know first of all listen to the customerslash patient at that time because again I was coming at it from a salesman's perspective and not looking at it from a health professional even though I had a health healthcare background it wasn't and it was my my patient public uh patient slash public facing experience was very limited and if it was it was to either finish a transaction begin a transaction finish a transaction or explain the transaction uh based on being a pharmacy technician I would have to take in the prescription then process that product I would either then be then in another instance I could be the puller who's pulling taking that uh now that uh prescription has now play uh been uh what do you call that transcribed into the system um uh label made uh manufactured all that kind of stuff already has been chosen if it's one of those products that's actually in because the the fast uh moving products or the products that there are a lot of moving um uh prescriptions they're in the a safe I'm not a safe excuse me a robot and that robot fills those those like I said those uh prescriptions that uh that particular pharmacy gets a lot of and then uh or then you could be the in the middle or you're the picker and I'm pulling the prescriptions on that particular uh order then uh making sure that they match up with what the uh the prescription writes what the or has or have um excuse me that it matches as the prescription has been written then the pharmacist would do the counting da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da so um you have a process and so for me the process when it became when it the product became cannabis I had to again then you know what do you call that um dissect that process and then insert a new product and then be able to now take that product and say oh okay you have a uh certification for a medical cannabis so what is it that you're looking for what is it that you're comfortable with that's my first question always always always always what are you comfortable with and what is your experience with cannabis I don't want to have a patient come back like and thank God that I was able to bring that uh grandmother back she became a regular patient of ours and she found the relief that she was looking for medical cannabis but I don't want to be one of those people who doesn't listen didn't listen to my patient and gave them the wrong thing or not uh recommended the wrong thing not gave them the wrong thing recommended the wrong thing and have a negative experience because I mean and uh my track record is I'm not bad in a thousand you know I have had people who were unhappy with uh that particular product oh I was I know what I was talking about and I wanted to say uh with chill pipes in Canada that event at that march we all met and that's when I first met Justin I think for the first time had seen him at places but met him and so we all met at that uh march and during that march because I was right after Governor Cuomo had signed it and allowed uh medical cannabis to be legal in New York State and we were marching down Fifth Avenue smoking our brains out shout out to my boy Green Cuisine uh and also you know what I have I had been um it had been so long uh I had tried to get on TikTok and I was not on TikTok and now I am and you can check me out brother Bong on TikTok as well so Huntington disease fellows folks fam is i it's complex and just as complex as Huntington's disease is the conversations must be as complex as well because they matter they matter those people who we talk about those people are people those are not just statistics those are not just numbers those are people um you know how do the disease affects brains so what I mean how do you quantify that how do you quantify being you know losing the ability to do certain things that you are used to or that you're accustomed to in your life um you know so as I said we advocate for those people who can't advocate for themselves we speak for those people who can't speak for themselves or don't are reluctant to speak for themselves or don't know what to say when they speak for themselves. But my friends we're here to have some IT We're here to have that conversation we're here to be that uh place where you can maybe not be um maybe not be shy you know because many folks you know don't really want to talk to their physicians about certain things you know um uh they what is that uh they call it the uh the white coat syndrome where you know unfortunately some doctors take on a persona that just is a little you know omnipresent you know they have a god complex and studies have shown that folks will follow the instructions of someone who and they may not even verify that this individual is an actual doctor but the fact that they had on a white coat uh gave them for some reason a perceived authority in uh in in the eyes of the general public and I can honestly honestly say I experienced that as I said I have worked in as a in a pharmacy uh no longer around but I worked for RiteAid for a few years and it's interesting but I'm not if you look at my avatar I'm not the youngest person you're going to meet in that particular day so I look like I could be a pharmacist so when we f like I said when it first started we all wore the same white smocks so I just regular Dr. Bong aka Jeffrey was coming into work excuse me doing my own thing you know minding my own business when I punched in got to work was on this floor in my white smock and a nice older excuse me 43 18 and 43 um a nice older woman came over to me and asked for my help so I being the person who wants to help people and being the person who wants to help a you know a senior citizen whatever I can do to help I'll there to help excuse me so when this individual and I started to talk she started to ask me questions and I started to oh okay this is here this is there this is that and then it went to something that for me was rather personal and that was hemorrhoids and what to do about said hemorrhoids. Now I'm turning as red as I could possibly turn as you know the complexion that I am and I don't know what to say to question because now I realize that this person oh she thinks I'm a pharmacist she doesn't see that I am just Jeffrey not pharmacist under my name and so now I'm like what do you call I'm in betwe I'm in a between a rock and a hard place. Like how do I Say, oh, by the way, I'm not a pharmacist. I'm actually looking for my water. I need some water right now, so don't mind me. You can hear the chair rolling. So I can actually say, my friends, that I have experienced the white coat syndrome myself because this person saw me in a dispensary wearing a white coat and thought that I, Jeffrey, was a pharmacist. We are the Cannabis Chronicles. I'm your boy, Dr. Bong, a weekly candid cannabis community conversation. Today's this week's topic, we've been talking about Huntington's disease, and we've been looking at it from the perspective of the Chronicles crew. Uh again, I'm Dr. Bong, and we just tried to make sure that we let folks know that cannabis is just is an alternative. It's a supplement. We're not looking for a miracle. We're not looking for a miracle. We're just we're just folks are just looking for relief. Folks are just looking for help. And you know, I uh was looking come across another uh subject, another uh article. Between 2016 and 2020, the enrollment in medical cannabis programs increased by more than four-fold. Study published in the Annals of International Internal Medicine highlighted that stat and found that enrollment grew in states where only medical cannabis was legal, but declined in states that also allowed recreational use. So, in the modern context, because that information is a few years old, since then the landscape has continued to evolve. Excuse me, as more states have legalized adult use cannabis, many patients no longer feel the need to remain informal medical programs because they got the information that they got. But for me, I know that people are coming to medical cannabis every day, naive. They're coming cannabis naive. And again, I would rather a patient get the right information, get the right education so that they have a positive experience so they continue to be a patient and they continue to try to understand the benefits of this wonderful, wonderful, wonderful plan. Because a negative experience, what happens? Now you're gonna turn it down and have that negative experience, and you're gonna share that negative experience with everyone that you know. Because as they said, bad news travels fast. So since the landscape has been, you know, has been continue to evolve, let's evolve with it. That doesn't mean medical use is declining. What that means is access has changed. Patients are now redirecting and self-directing their use. They're choosing retail over registration and they're navigating cannabis without formal program structures. System didn't disappear, folks. It just shifted. Just like we had to shift when COVID locked us all down. We had to make sure that, and for me, I had to make sure that we continue to share the information about cannabis with our friends, with our with our listeners, with you guys, because the most important thing is that the information got to you. And uh we couldn't do that when we were in lockdown because we couldn't couldn't congregate, couldn't do the things that you know makes cannabis the social thing that it is. I mean, um we all talk about ciphers, and if you've been a medical or excuse me, a uh recreational cannabis consumer, then you know what a cipher is. It's a group of people getting together to consume, whether you're sharing, whether you're comparing, or whether you're just chilling. That's what we do. That's the culture. That's the cannabis. Shout out to, speaking of culture, shout out to my friends at um, excuse me, oh man, excuse me. Shout out to uh good friends at Happy Monkey. Happy Monkey, Happy Monkey, Happy Monkey. First, uh uh didn't look at the note, kind of eluded me. Um, first swag I ever got in the industry was to uh Happy Monkey chilling at a can uh can a gather event and chilling outside and met the wonderful guy Ramon from the uh one and only Happy Monkey. So check them out. If you're in New York and you're in the uh Washington Heights area, you can check them out. They're also in Brooklyn. They reopened their dispensary in Brooklyn. So as I said, we are the Cannabis Chronicles. I'm your boy, Dr. Bom. We are weekly Candid Cannabis Community Conversation, and we chop it up every week about medical cannabis, and we talk about a particular condition. This week's condition is Huntington's disease. So as I said, the system didn't disappear, folks, it just shifted. And medical programs still play a critical role for patient guidance, for uh dosing education. I mean, people come to me and they ask me, well, what should I do in this situation? How should I get this and what should I do that? So that that's guidance. That that's not disappearing. That's not gonna not be so that's not not for me. That's something that's gonna always be available. We're gonna be people who need that guidance. Um, dosing education and you know, how to take an oral solution, how to take a topical. What do you do if you have an adverse situation and you're uncomfortable with the condition that you um excuse me, that you or how you feel from that particular product. Again, those things are important. Um condition-specific care. Like if you have chronic pain, then yes, you could use a vape to to relieve your pain, but if you're using it medically, then and depending on your uh ratio, excuse me, your pain tolerance, you may have to use uh it a lot more than you would if you uh used a product the same ratio, but in a different form, because it acts differently in your body and longer acting product. And then you can also have a ratio, friends, that will have you not feel like you are elevated. Some folks love that feeling, some folks uh that's that's their thing about that's the thing that they love about cannabis. However, however, other folks don't particularly care for that feeling. They look for uh relief and they're not looking to feel like they're stoned. So if you have a ratio with uh a CBD dominant ratio, friend, you know the psychotropic effects of this of the THC are gonna level out. Now, are you gonna feel a little a little something? Right. Yes, you will, but you're not gonna feel you're not gonna feel what you feel from straight THC. Um so you know, we want to make sure that we understand that this is how we share and you know, um share our message because the message, the medical cannabis message, it is important. So enrollment, you know, how do I say this? Enrollment didn't stop or didn't drop because patients disappeared. No ma'am, no sir, they didn't do that, it dropped because access expanded. Because now you didn't have to go directly to a medical dispensary. So at that point, people were more comfortable, and as more and more adult use dispensaries open, then and the education of the bud tenders expands, then people can go into these adult use dispensaries and understand and be able to help and be able to understand and be able to be treated as they need to be treated. So as I said, Huntington's disease affects movement, memory, and behavior, and for many families it changes everything. But like I said, here's what most people are not talking about. The cannabis conversation is evolving. Research is exploring how cannabinoids interact with the brain, including areas linked to movement and neurological balance. And while cannabis is not a cure, it's becoming part of a larger conversation about the quality of life. So hopefully, this week on the cannabis chronicles, we broke it down for you because cannabis is medicine. Again, shout out to all of our friends of the show. Um shout out to uh Best Buds magazine. It's about a minute and 45 uh excuse me, about a minute and 24, 25 seconds, because 55 years ago they entered the conversation, they became the voice of cannabis culture in the United States and in the world. Um, but for me, I say this, I I want to ask you guys this question. Also, when and where is your favorite time to smoke? Where is your when and where is your favorite place to smoke? Now, for me, I enjoy uh right now, I enjoy gonna be going out there right after the show, enjoy the terrace, overlooking the uh the greenway, and uh just being outside for me. But my most favorite place, folks, my most favorite place, Canada Fam, is outside in like and I just said outside, but no, like outside like a a lake or outdoors experience where there's nobody around, just the outdoors. I am a I was an avid fisherman, I don't live in the area to fish anymore, but I love fishing. Let me say it again. I love fishing. And one of my favorite things in the whole wild world to do is I have a setup. I do a setup where I have um two different baits. Now I will use worms and I will use minnows. So both of those are you cast them and you kind of leave them alone. You just let, you know, the fish come to them. So I cast my minnow, I cast my minnow here, cast my worm there, right? Set my uh my rods up to uh let me know, alert me with my daubers or whatever that I have a fish on. But before all that, I've already set up my little space. So I got my seat, I'm sitting down, got my water, my soda, beer, whatever I'm drinking, and I have my cannabis. And literally, I have done this a hundred thousand times. Cast my rod, cast my reel, set my lines, sit down and light up and look at a big old lake, big old expanse of water, and just take in the beauty and just so that, my friends, is where your boy, Dr. Bomb, likes to consume. And I am going to enjoy my gorilla blue cake when we get out of here. Special shout out to our friends at DKEdibles. Um, DK Edibles, uh, DR King. You can check them out, DR.
