Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief - Wednesday, Jan 21 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Wednesday, January 21st, 2026. And welcome to another episode of Good Morning Quincy. This is your daily local update for George Quincy, Winchester and Crescent Bar. If it matters to our community, we are talking about it. And in the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school, sports and activities, school, city police, fire, church, and local business news.

Whether you're heading to work, getting kids out the door or just easing into your day, we are here to help you stay connected with what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for the day, and let's start with the day's forecast. Slightly colder this morning. Currently about 26 with a lot of humidity in the air, meaning watch out for that.

Signature morning for Austin and Quincy. Give [00:01:00] yourself a few extra minutes this morning to account for defrosting your car, or some slick spots on the road. Cloudy skies early than partly cloudy this afternoon with a high round 32 winds, light and variable. Remember a coat or a sweatshirt as you go out the door this morning, ladies and gentlemen is it is chilly rough night last night in Jack's wrestling with our jacks giving their best but overall losses to Othello last night with the Jackson Lady Jacks wrestling team.

But they're back at it tonight, and we'll have more of that in just a few minutes For all of you looking for a day to celebrate this hump day. It's National Squirrel Day, and well, we don't see a whole lot of squirrels here in Quincy most of the time. But if that's not your cup of tea, it's also national hug day.

Be sure and give a hug to somebody you love with the caveat. Make sure it's okay to give them a hug to the person you're giving a hug. Don't walk around hugging your [00:02:00] coworkers, so that's not a normal office thing. That would be weird and you might get into some trouble. So we can't say do that. But give a hug to those people you love today.

Let 'em know you care about 'em and enjoy National Hug Day. It's also National Granola Bar Day. I tried some new ones yesterday. Get ahead of the curve. Uh, one of the companies I to enjoy for pancake batter and other stuff. Release a new granola bark. Kodiak pancakes. Gave it a try yesterday. Gonna say, not a bad generic granola bar.

Not great, but hey, it was Nat. It is National Granola Bar Day today, so I had to get ahead of the curve on that going on today. And guys, we have a lot happening in Quincy today. The Quincy Senior Center hosts several weekly events that all are welcome to attend, but today we got bridge at 1230. For crafters, there's that chat [00:03:00] and stitch that they like to do at 1:00 PM today.

Senior Center monthly board meeting is scheduled today for 2:00 PM I don't have much information about that, but it is on their calendar. So Senior Center Monthly board meeting is scheduled for today, 2:00 PM The Quincy Adult Cornhole League Hole League is playing tonight, uh, for their six week tournament run for another five weeks.

It costs $40 a team, although, I dunno that you can still sign up at this point, but that's going on. Hey. Go to Pioneering Elementary this evening, six to 8:00 PM Check out the Corn Hole League, sit back, cheer your friends on, and have a little fun. For teens and adults who enjoy discussing films that have been adapted from books, the George Public Library is offering movie, a movie showing today at 4:00 PM to five 30 with a discussion on the adaption to the book.

From the book on February 18th. If you love complaining about how they screwed up [00:04:00] your favorite book by turning into a movie, or vice versa, this one's for you. Bacon's Market announced they're having partnered with Ace Sushi franchises and that offering will start today with fresh daily rolled sushi, sushi offerings.

Our here, ladies and gentlemen of you're a sushi fan. I've never worked with a company, but I saw them setting up yesterday. Rolls will be made daily with sustainable fresh sushi grade fish. They'll also be featuring $6 rolls on every Wednesday. I actually talked to the team that was sitting up yesterday at Aikens, and they're setting up their area at the end of the deli, backed by the case that has the meats like sausage and bacon in it on that end of the deli, and they're looking forward to starting today.

It was a pleasure to meet them yesterday. So guys, go try this new offering in our town and, uh, I can't wait to try the sushi. [00:05:00] Now I know we have to start with our favorite bad jokes. 'cause of the day just is a little bit funnier when you start with a laugh. So why do golfers wear two pairs of pants in case they get a hole in one?

Yes, yes. The jokes are that bad and I promise they will keep coming every morning. Upcoming this week are soon in Quincy. The city rec department is hosting player sized program. It's happening each Thursday from eight 30 to 10:30 AM and it's free for all preschool age children at the rec department building near downtown.

Ladies, gentlemen, if you've got preschool kids and you just need to get together with some other parents and let your kids do something. Active indoors. Uh, despite the cold temperatures outside, this is an opportunity for you to let your kids get some activity and to connect with some other parents in the community of [00:06:00] the same age.

Group Kids Family Game Night is tomorrow night as well at the Quincy Activity Center, AKA, the rec department, whatever they're calling the building now. Come play some games. Bring your own games, make some new friends, six 30 to 8:30 PM Come get your game on tomorrow, tonight. At the Quincy Activity Center, the Quincy Senior Center has an exercise class tomorrow at 1:00 PM.

They also play Mexican train at 6:30 PM at dinner. Quincy Public Library is having a retirement funds fundamentals, estate planning, wheels and trust workshop at 3:00 PM on Thursday. Please go to the library's website to reserve your spot or call 1 2 0 6 3 5 1 2 2 8 7 for questions about this event.

Next week, ancient Wake Lakes Elementary is holding a spaghetti feed for parents. The meeting will be on January 28th from three 30 to six. Now we're announcing it now because [00:07:00] they need some help. They need some volunteers to help with this big event. That's a lot of people to take care of and a lot of people to feed.

If you are involved with Asian Links Elementary and you are willing to help, please let them know. I don't have a contact for that. I don't know if you need to just call the secretary of the school or if you need to talk to the school district themselves, but I promise if you start offering to help, they'll find a way to plug you in.

And if you're willing to help with this, I'm sure that whoever you talk to will point you in the right direction. Faith Community Church Youth Group tonight at 7:00 PM Uh, minor change in the normal time. Uh, during this January, and they'll be back to their normal schedule on in February. Remember, as you go through this week, I actually watched this again with my children last night.

I challenge you to the art challenge. [00:08:00] Perform an a, a random act, kindness. Do something nice for someone today just because you can, just because that's the kind of community we wanna live in. Smile at people. Use please and thank you. Buy a stranger's coffee without saying a word. Let's make Quincy a better place.

By the way, we interact and preach each other every day, and it's already a pretty good place to be, and this will make it just that much better to live here. Now, before we jump into Quincy Jack's life and sports, we're gonna cover upcoming city administration news and announcements, and then we'll jump into Jack Sports.

Quincy Animal Shelter. Found a small chihuahua looking, I'm never sure where these I, I'd like to say it was a chihuahua, but I'm never sure where the pictures guys, honestly, I'm not good with small dogs, but they found a small Chihuahua esque dark dog over by the Pool Park area. Check out the Quincy Animal Shelter page on Facebook for an image and see if [00:09:00] you recognize this dog and let's see if we can get home.

Thank you guys, because last week. We announced two different dogs. One of them has been returned to their owners, and so thank you for helping out. Thank you for being part of our community and helping get that puppy back home. There's still another one that hasn't been claimed yet. At least they haven't marked as claimed, and now we have this Chihuahua guys head over their Facebook page.

I know I'm not a huge Facebook person. I don't love spending a lot of time there, but this is a great place to go. Check out what. Serve our community that way. Check out their Facebook play page, and let's make sure we're getting these puppies back home. On that note, please take care of your pets, make sure they're safely secured in your yard or wherever you keep them, or that they're chipped and tagged so we can get them back home to the people they belong to.

Remember, Quincy requires a license for all dogs inside the [00:10:00] city. So please make sure you're up code. Make sure your dogs have those identity collars on them so we can get these puppies home because a dog, let's face it, it's part of your family.

Now, today in Jack Sports, we got a lot going on. The Lady Jack's eight B team is playing Moses Lake at Quincy Min Middle School at 4:00 PM followed by the AA Lady Jack's team at five 30. Lady Jack seven B is playing at Ancient Lakes Elementary at four, followed by Lady Jack seven A at five 30. The Co-Ed Unified Jacks basketball team is playing at the high school gym at 5:00 PM against Alfreda.

And finally, lady Jacks Fari wrestling team is way at Shalan. Now, I can't confirm this guys, 'cause I've looked at three different schedules. One schedule says they're traveling to an invitational in Chelan. One schedule says they're not. [00:11:00] I'm not sure they're actually attending the Invitational because they have a really heavy schedule.

But someone let us know in the comments, uh, wherever you check this out, because I have conflicting information on this, but I don't think they're actually going to this invitational. I think it was scheduled as a possibility. So they may or may not be going to Le High School Invitational at 5:00 PM tonight.

The Jack's JV wrestling team is heading to Grandview High School. Thursday, meet at 6:00 PM along with the Lady Jack's JV wrestling team, and the Jacks Farsi wrestling team at Grandview at seven. Let's go Jacks
