Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Thursday, January 29th, 2026, and this is your daily local update for Quincy, George Winchester and Crescent Bar. If it matters to our community, we're talking about it. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school, sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church community, and local business news.
Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Winter Weather Advisory, in effect this morning. Wintery mix of snow and freezing rain in some areas this morning with ice accumulation.
Possible light rain early, then remaining cloudy with showers in the [00:01:00] afternoon. Currently 30 raining here at the studio in the middle of Quincy High, near 40 winds, light and variable. Please, please, please give yourself some extra time this morning in case the roads become slick. Some areas they are actually expecting ice accumulation, so please be careful this morning.

In our Jack Sports Recap. Last night, the lady Jacks, or sorry, last night, the Quincy Lady Jacks ate a basketball team. One against Endeavor Middle School, 40 to 19. Go Jacks

In reasons to celebrate today's national Puzzle Day each year on January 29th, national Puzzle Day recognizes how exercising our brains with puzzles. It's just one of the many benefits that could be things like an actual puzzle, like a jigsaw puzzle, or things like Sudoku, crosswords, any kind of puzzle that activates your brain.
If puzzles aren't your thing, that's okay. It's National Corn chip day. So grab some queso, salsa, or whatever your favorite dip is. I like a good seven day layer dip and enjoy some corn chips today and brighten your day 'cause Who doesn't love chips and salsa today around Quincy. The city of Quincy's rec department is hosting player sized program.
It's now happening each Thursday from eight 30 to 10:30 AM and it's free for all preschool aged children at the rec department building near [00:03:00] downtown. If you're a preschool parent, hey, this is a great time to go get your kids outside 'cause the weather certainly isn't cooperating today. And give yourself a breather.
Go meet some other preschool parents and let your kids run around and play and get some of that energy out. The Quincy Senior Center has an exercise class today at 1:00 PM and p knuckle at 3:00 PM. Also, they play Mexican train at 6:30 PM after dinner. The senior center will also be welcoming Quincy High School Theater students for a special sneak peek today of their upcoming production of Footloose from four 30 to 5:30 PM You don't wanna miss that.
The Quincy Rec Center is hosting a community coloring contest this evening from six 30 to 8:00 PM this evening. It's family friendly and open to multiple age groups. Come color as much as you want and judging. And winners will be announced, I believe, at 7 45. [00:04:00] Now, a good morning doesn't start without a good, bad joke, so why shouldn't you trust Adams?
Because they make up everything.
Tomorrow the Quincy Rec Department is hosting adult volleyball at the open gym. Join us for some volleyball fun on Friday evenings from five 30 to 7:30 PM Meet some people, get active, have some fun. It's at Monument Elementary. The best part is totally free and great way to spend your Friday evening.
Also, tomorrow from Quincy Rec Department is a free online trivia night for you and your family to participate from the comfort of your own home. This event runs from seven to 9:00 PM. Maybe you wanna sit around and enjoy some popcorn and just play a game as a family. Here's your chance. Also, it's Thursday, so I want to check in with our art challenge. If you haven't been participating in our acts of Random Kindness challenge, do something nice for someone today just because you can't.
No other reason, no reward. Smile at people. Use please and thank you. Buy a stranger's coffee. A cup of coffee as you're going through the, one of our amazing coffee stands that we have, we have so many options here in Quincy. We're so blessed that way. So buy a stranger a cup of coffee while you're going through on the other side.

Remember to vote on the upcoming school levee extensions. It's not a new ad, it's not a new text, it's not a new anything. You are already paying. It's already part of our lives. It just replaces the existing levy that funds the schools. Now, I personally went through and looked at the list. Uh, Quincy has a great post, uh, on one of the school websites.
I believe it was in their school newspaper. That's right. I was reading the Quincy Jacks, uh, I think it's quarterly newspaper. And it has a full explanation of all the many things that this levy funds for our school system. It helps. [00:07:00] It helps so much, and it does so much for our community. Guys, you should have gotten your ballots in the mail by now.
Please, please, please show up. Let's keep our school funded and keep the many amazing things we have going on for our kids going, they need it. Please check the Facebook page for the Quincy Animal Shelter. We still have some family furry friends that have not found a home yet. There was a beautiful dog picked up just yesterday, and somebody's gonna be missing that puppy.

Ancient Lakes Elementary is hosting. No Cho, I'm gonna say this wrong. Noche, a fundraiser on put on by the parent committee featuring games in English and Spanish.
Doors open at 4:30 PM and [00:08:00] games start at five and end at seven. It's $5 per person. It gets you $5. It gets you three game tickets, light refreshments, and possible prizes. No cash prizes will be given. Childcare will be provided. Go support Ancient Lakes Elementary tonight. Tomorrow, January 30th. Ancient Lakes Elementary is hosting their winter pack meeting and health fair from five to 8:00 PM It's a fantastic opportunity for free health services like vision and hearing screening, blood pressure checks, and plenty of educational resources.
