Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Wednesday, April 1 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Wednesday, April 1st, 2026, and welcome to another Hump Day edition of Good Morning Quincy WA Newscast. This is your daily local update for Quincy George Winchester Present Bar Southern Estates, and all of the 9 8 8 4 8. If it matters to our community, we're talking about it.

In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school, sports, and activities. School, city council, police, fire, church community, and local business news. Whether you're heading to work, getting kids out the door, which I hope not since it's still spring break, or just easy into the day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community.

Grab your coffee, get ready for the day, and let's start with today's forecast. Starting off a little warmer today. Currently right around [00:01:00] 40, give or take a few degrees for in town versus outside of town. Highs near 50 today. Rain on and off throughout the day. Light east, wind becoming southwest, five to nine miles per hour in the morning.

Chance of part participation. We'll see if I can say that this morning. Precipitation is 80%. Like I said, rain is actually forecasted on and off periodically throughout the whole day. Whether we get all that or not, we'll see, but there stands a good chance tonight. Rain mainly. 4:11 PM low around 35 tonight with winds south Southwest at eight miles per hour becoming northwest in the evening and the chance of chance of participation at 90%.

So dress with a little extra layer in case you get caught in the rain today. Uh, it is actually a real possibility, which I know. Doesn't happen all the time here, but [00:02:00] it does happen on occasion. Ready for this

in your Jack Sports recap. The Jack C soccer team lost a grand view at home last night. Our Jacks JB soccer team won last night against Grand View on our X RC soccer team. Won in overtime last night against Grand U. Jack's golf team played in Ellensburg and the Jacks and Lady Jacks tennis teams also played in Ellensburg yesterday.

Go Jack.

Today is National Sourdough Bread Day. It's great if you love sourdough. If you don't, that's okay. We have other reasons to celebrate today. It's National Walk to Work Day. And reading is funny. I'm not sure exactly what reading is Funny Day is about. Maybe it's for people who like comics. Maybe it's people for people who like [00:03:00] comedies.

I'm not really sure, but hey, you know, maybe walk to work today, read something hilarious like our joke later in the show. But yes, it is also April Fool's Day, so be on your guard today. Watch out for that colleague. Friend relative who likes to get the best of you and likes to teach you. I know I gotta be on my toes all day today 'cause my children are all about April Fool's day, and so I fully expect to be messed with all day periodically, and you should probably be alert of that as well.

Today around town, the senior center has bridge at 12:30 PM and for crafters, there's their chat and stitch at 1:00 PM. And I will try and grab the lunch menu. I don't have this month's calendar of menus, but I will try my best to go grab it this morning so we can get it posted up on the note section of the welcome Quincy wall.com website tonight.

Gather with the group friends and have a great time learning something new with the [00:04:00] city of George. Hosting their dancing Lessons for beginners, or sorry, line Dancing Lessons for Beginners that they offer on Wednesday evenings from six to 7:30 PM at the George Communities Call is $10 for each lesson, and it's a good time to go learn something new, have some fun, meet with some friends, and get out of the house for a little while.

The Quincy Recreation Department wants to know if you're looking for something fun to do with the kids during spring break. It is not too late to join them for their spring puzzle hustle. Pick up a puzzle from the activity center anytime between the 30th and the third at 2:30 PM and submit your photo of your family with your completed puzzle by Sunday, April 5th at 11:59 PM The cost is $20.

Play to play for an in city resident and 24 for out city resident. The family puzzle. Race is a great way to spend time together and one lucky family will win a [00:05:00] family season. Pass to the new Quincy Aquatic Center for, uh, five members of their household. Big thank you to Abbott Construction for generously donate generously donating this prize and supporting our recreation program and Aquatics Center this year.

They truly appreciate it and spots are limited, so don't wait. Uh, I have not confirmed with Russ. I saw him last night whether. They are filled up for this or not, but I'll bet they still have a couple slots open. Register at Quincy Washington, us, or just by the rec center and talk to 'em. Today is $6 SU sushi rolls at Aikens in the new sushi department.

I know I had sushi for dinner last night and it was delicious. Love this new feature over at Aikens. Uh, thanks guys for bringing that in. I've been enjoying a lot. The Quincy Rec Department also announces that the spring Mega Q hunt has begun, sponsored by Abbott [00:06:00] Construction. There are two digital hunts per week starting today and any on April 30th.

For more details, you can follow their Facebook page or follow them on the reminder app, get the info sent straight to your phone. It is basically a big geocaching game. If you don't understand what that is, there are details on their Facebook. But they're gonna hide cues around town, always in safe areas.

And you go, you find it, you scan it, and it registers you for a chance to win something. It's a, it's a very cool little thing that's going on, uh, with a recordation department. And if you've never done geocaching, this kind of game is a whole lot of fun, guys. Go check that out. Get involved. It's something new and different and it's a lot of fun to do with a group of friends.

Now it's time to put that smile on your face with our daily bad joke. 'cause you made it all the way to Hump Day. So here's a good reason to [00:07:00] start the day with the grin. What kind of music scares, balloons? Pop music

in upcoming events. The Department of Licensing to go mobile units coming to Quincy, the Department of Licensing's, department of licensing to go mobile unit will be here at the library tomorrow, April 2nd, 2020 to six from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM walk-in appointments will be cut off at 4:30 PM Services available.

That is the only way you can guarantee that you can get in because a lot of people in our community take advantage of this [00:08:00] great opportunity.

Uh, they had a lot of appointments the last time they came and. I know a lot of people who personally benefited from it to be able to take care of their licensing stuff here in town and not have to go over to Alfredo or wherever. To reserve your time slot, call 5 0 9 7 8 7 2 3 5 9 and take care of your licensing needs without count leaving town.

But I do urge you reserve your spot to guarantee that you can get through and take care of your licensing needs. While this great opportunity is here in town, it's gonna be a very busy day at the library because the caravan mobile healthcare is also coming to the Quincy Public Library. Mark your calendars on Thursday, April 2nd from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM The Caravan mobile health team will be at the Quincy Public Library bringing essential health services directly to our community.

Take a step towards the healthier community, community. Everyone is welcome to and spread. The word let people know is coming on Thursday, the Quincy Rotary Club will be meeting at 12:10 PM just outside the Jacks Rabbits restaurant at Quincy Market, uh, for their irregular [00:10:00] meeting in church events. Faith Community Church does not have youth group tonight during spring break.

I know I heard all about it from my kids. Uh, they were kind of bummed because they enjoy going to youth group there. St. Paul Lutheran Church offers their afterschool program every Wednesday on school days, so that shouldn't be there today, if I understand that right. Until 5:30 PM you can find registration form on Facebook or visit their office.

And the youth group is always welcoming young persons. Sixth grade through 12th grade, starting dinner at 5:30 PM followed by youth activities and Bible dive till 7:45 PM For the younger grades, the First Baptist Church hosts Ana, and that's for kindergarten through sixth grade at 6:00 PM It's similar to the Boy Scouts to Girl Scouts, but it's Bible base with the goal of painting a more depth, in depth knowledge of the Bible.

For both those programs, I was not able to [00:11:00] confirm, uh, whether or not they are active this week with Spring Break. Like I said, I confirmed Faith Community Church does not have youth group listed tonight, and I'm 99% positive. My kids told me last week that they weren't doing youth group this week for spring break.

Before you drop your kids off at St. Paul Lutheran Church or at Awana tonight, uh, reach out and verify since I could not with those programs, if you normally take your kids there, that they are actually having their programs tonight during spring break. Uh, it sounds like the afterschool programs should not be happening today because there is no school.

They only do it on school days. So you might wanna double check on the other two programs if you normally take your kids there. We posted our E Easter weekend in the 9, 8, 8 4 8 events. Listing over at Welcome to quincy wall.com over the weekend. And [00:12:00] if you're looking for Easter egg hunts, Easter parties, or Easter Sunday events, check it out.

And if you're hosting an Easter event or a special, please check it out and make sure that we found yours and the details are correct. If you know of one open community and it's not on the list or the details are wrong or missing, like the most club Easter egg hunt times, please email me at info@thefallibleman.com.

We will add it or update the listing so people are aware of what is going on this weekend. I know I added a new listing yesterday for a brunch, uh, that's going on out at Riverside this weekend. So. Please continue to reach out to me. Let's keep this updated so that way everybody is aware of all the incredible things going on over Easter weekend, and we'll make sure that we keep that up to date.

Before we jump into upcoming Quincy Jack's life, we're gonna cover city admin news and announcements, and then jump into Quincy Jack sports and events. The city of Quincy would like to inform the [00:13:00] community that a portion of Jackrabbit Street Northeast will be closed traffic due to construction work.

Being performed by the contractor of Jack Rabbit Estate, phase two. I'll be installing a sewer main alongside that portion of the road, starting just east of eighth Ave and ending just west of ninth. Work has already started and estimated to be completed by April 10th, that if you normally go down Jack Rabbit way, understand there will be some rerouting traffic there, so please plan ahead for that.

The Quincy Recreation Department is now accepting applications for lifeguards and swim instructors for the new aquatic center. Training is available and applicants must be 15 years old or older to apply. If you're ready to take on the role, that's equal parts, fun and responsibility, lifeguarding might be for you.

This isn't just a summer job, it's about safety, leadership and being someone others can count on. Apply today to be part of something exciting from day one. If you have questions, email Amanda at Quincy Washington [00:14:00] US, or call 5 0 9 7 8 7 3 5 2 3 extension five. I went to the Quincy Valley Regional Parks District board meeting last night to look at some updated plans for the Plex, and we'll bring be bringing you an article, planning hopefully later this week.

Uh, I'm waiting for some information from them, but I will hopefully be able to share that later this week on Welcome to quincy walls.com. Uh, there have been some revisions, some changes and things are still fluid, but it's very exciting, uh, what's going on with Plex and the planning of that, and I can't wait to hopefully be able to share with that with you guys a little bit later this week in school News.

Still spring break. Yep, it's Wednesday. We're still on spring break. Uh, there's always a lot going on. We've got some games this week, but kids are outta school, so pay attention. Please be aware that they're out and moving and there are more people on the road. There are [00:15:00] more people walking around and doing things outside of school times.

Y'all ready for this?
