Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Wednesday, April 8 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, and welcome to another Hump Day edition of Good Morning Quincy WA Newscast. This is your local daily update for Quincy George Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland States, and all of the 9 8 8 4 8. If it matters to our community. We're talking about it.
In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school, sports and activity, school, city council, police, fire, church community, and local business news. Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community.
Grab your coffee, get ready for your today, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 42 here at the studio, colder out towards George or down by the river and with clear skies. It's [00:01:00] actually definitely feeling colder this morning than it actually is. Today's supposed to be sunny with a high near 67.
Gentle wins today and tonight we're gonna be mostly clear with a low around 41. Y'all ready for this
in your Jack Sports Recap. Our Jacks baseball team took a loss at home last night against Othello. Track and field. Our lady Jacks barely lost by two while our jacks won 81 46 in soccer last night. We had the Battle of the Basin and our Jacks varsity team won three to two while our JV team won five zero Go Jack Jazz.
If you are looking for a reason to celebrate, although we have a pretty good [00:02:00] start for that with our win, the Battle of the Bass last night, today is National Pygmy Hippo Day. Yes, they're adorable. If you don't know what a pygmy hippie hippo is, be sure to google that 'cause it's just a cuter, smaller version of a hippo, which is good because real hippos are kind of horrifying.
It is also National Empanada Day and it's National Zoo Lovers Day. Now, I was contemplating on how we can put this together, and it did occur to me that Woodland Park Zoo over in Seattle is open currently. So if you can find the right stand, maybe you can enjoy the zoo while viewing pygmy hippos if they have them.
I'm not positive on that, and if you find the right stand, get an empanada to enjoy while you're there. Maybe I'm stretching on that, but honestly, it sounds like a great day to me. So, you know, [00:03:00] maybe we'll head to Zoo today. Who knows? Today Around Town, the Senior Center has bridge at 12:30 PM for Crafters.
There's a chat and Stitch at 1:00 PM and the lunch menu is posted on the notes section of the Welcome to Quincy wall.com website. Tonight you can gather a group of friends and have great time learning something new. The City of George hosts line dancing Lessons for Beginners offered on Wednesday evenings from six to 7:30 PM at the George Community Hall for $10 per lesson.
It's a great opportunity to go learn a new skill, meet some new people, and have some fun. It's $6 sushi roses at rolls at Aikens today, which hey, that's always a good day. I love $6 sushi rolls Monkey around pizza is temporary clothes for a couple days due to some water damage. So you might need to shift your lunch and dinner plans for a couple days.
We'll keep you posted and hopefully David Cheryl can get that wrapped up and it doesn't cost them much and they can get back on their feet pretty [00:04:00] quick. Because we're missing our monkeying around pizza. Our friends over at Waled Bank are hosting a fun giveaway. Stop by Waled Quincy Branch and drop off your business card in the box for a chance to win lunch at Murphy's Corner, another one of our amazing chamber members here in the Quincy area.
The winner will be announced on April 13th. Good luck, Quincy. The Port of Quincy commissioner meeting is tonight at 4:00 PM and it's open to the public. Over at the Port of Quincy and meeting area, Quincy Rec department is inviting you to join their spring Mega Q Hunt, sponsored by ABT Construction.
There are two digital hunts per week during the month of April, and it ends on April 30th. For more details, you can follow their Facebook page or follow them on the Remind app, get info sent straight to your phone. I saw yesterday's clue on Facebook, so the question is. Are you feeling pretty clever for this geocaching style hunt?[00:05:00]
Because there are possibilities of winning pretty big on this one. It is Wednesday and hey, we need our bad joke to get through the week. So why shouldn't you play poker in the jungle? There's too many cheetahs.
Upcoming events. The George Community Hall is excited to announce that Carter Junction, a band playing folk Americana and Irish. Traditional music will be performing there on Saturday, April 18th. Doors open at 5:30 PM with a concert starting at six. A mission is $5 per person with a quiz. Kids 12 and under.
Attending for free. There will be refreshments served at the halftime. Uh, bring some friends and get ready for some good music and a good time. Are you ready for Quincy's first ever battle at the net four versus four code volleyball tournament? [00:06:00] It's happening this Saturday. The fun starts at 9:00 AM at the Quincy Middle Middle School.
I just heard an update from our rec department on this. They got 10 teams lined up. Russ is really positive. They're looking forward to a really great day. Come cheer on the teams. I don't know if you've ever watched small team volleyball, but it gets pretty wild, pretty quick. It's gonna be a good time.
Come join the fund at Murphy's Corner on Sunday, April 12th at 12:30 PM They're excited to partner with a seed covered nursery for a special event called Plant and Sip. It's a hands-on planting class and coffee experience. Create something beautiful. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon. Spend time with friends at Murphy's Corner.
Limited spots are available, so reserve yours today by calling or texting 5 0 9 7 9 7 0 7 9 2. It's also Girl Scout cookie season and only for a couple more weeks will you be able to find your favorite cookies in [00:07:00] the world. I know sometimes it seems like we're going from Girl Scout season to Girl Scout season and other times it can't get here fast enough.
We all love our Girl Scout cookies. Cookies will be available on the April 10th, Friday, April 10th, and Friday April 17th from four to seven at Aikens and Quincy. Get out there and support local Alfredo, Quincy Girl Scout troop. Grab your favorite snack. You know you love them, whether you like your thin mints, or you're like me and you're a tag alongs person.
We all have our weakness. They'll be there on this Friday and next Friday. Get your fix what you can. I know for a fact these troops are the very last troops to have cookies still available in the state every year. So this is it. This is your one chance this Friday and next Friday, and then it is over the gayman roar and Port Trail, run and walk and wine tasting event is coming [00:08:00] up quickly.
The event is Saturday, April 25th. The last day to register is Friday, April 17th. It's coming up. Quick. Grab your friends, go out. Be silly. Have some fun. This is a really friendly 5K, so if you're still working on that New Year's resolution to get healthier this year, or just trying to get out and move a little more because you sit too much at work, the caveman Roaring Poor is a great event to just go and have some fun.
The trail will challenge you a little, but not too much. This is very beginner friendly. Go take some friends, encourage each other, have some fun. It really doesn't feel like a workout at all, especially with everybody drinking wine afterwards. I in church events, faith Community Church has youth group tonight at 6:30 PM Tonight is open to all sixth through 12th graders.
Junior high and high [00:09:00] schoolers gathered to spend time with friends, eat together and hear the word and play some awesome games. I know my kids were really bummed over spring break 'cause they didn't have youth group because they love going to youth group. They're back on. My kids are super excited to see all their friends and hang out.
It's gonna be a good time. St. Paul Lutheran Church offers an afterschool program every Wednesday on school days from after school until 5:30 PM. You can find the registration form for that on Facebook or visit their office. And their youth group is always welcoming young people from sixth to 12th grade, starting dinner at 5:30 PM followed by Youth Activities Bible till 7:45 PM for the younger grades.
The first Baptist of church hosts wanis for grades kindergarten through six. It's Bible Club similar to the Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts. With the goal of obtaining a more in-depth knowledge of the Bible. You are gonna have to double check whether that program is running right now or not. [00:10:00] It runs in shorter segments than some of these other youth groups
