Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Monday, April 27 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Monday, April 27th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George Winchester, Crescent Bar, Southern States, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9 84 8, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school, sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church community, and local business news.
Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. It was a crazy busy weekend around the 9 8 8 4 8, whether you were at the caveman Roaring po, the Kite Festival, the boat show. Or any of the incredibly large number of [00:01:00] events that we're going on around our incredible area.
It is Monday, and so we're here to help you ease back into the week. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 43 here at the studio. A few clouds early, but gone pretty quick today. Sunny with a high near 67. Light variable winds from five to eight miles per hour in the afternoon Tonight, mostly clear with a low, around 42.
Northwest winds seven to 10 miles per hour. Y'all ready for this
in your Jack Sports recap. Our Jack's JV baseball team lost Sila on Friday and on Saturday. Some tough losses by our Jacks varsity baseball team. Our Lady Jack's JV and varsity softball team. That's okay. We'll get 'em next time. Jack's go, Jack,[00:02:00]
if you're looking for a reason to celebrate today is National Tell a Story Day, national Prime Rib Day and National Gummy Bear Day. Quite honestly, I'm not quite sure how to string this together. I am a huge fan of National Torts. Tell a story day. It's part of the reason that I work in radio, so go tell somebody's story, maybe have a great dinner, and I just can't help out with the gummy bears.
I'm just not a gummy bear person, so maybe get a nice set of gum. Bear gummy bears for somebody who loves gummy bears. I, I don't know, today around town, the Quincy Senior Center has coffee hour at 10:00 AM and line dancing at 1:00 PM. They also host Bridge at 2:15 PM. And if you'd like to know the menu for each day, we have it posted on our website over.
Welcome to quincy wa.com. In the note section at the library today, there's an English, English Citizenship study group. They [00:03:00] ask if you're thinking about becoming a US citizen, this is a great place for you. Join their free citizenship classes at the Quincy Public Library instructor. Julie Michelle. Mike Mitchell will guide you through the naturalization interview, exam prep, US history and civics and eligibility requirements.
All materials are provided. It starts at 4:30 PM and you can check the library for the schedule. Come learn, study, and prepare with us. Classes are taught in English only. Please contact the Quincy Public Library for any questions at 5 0 9 7 8 7 2 3 5 9.
Now it is Monday morning, so let's put a smile on that face because let's face it, coming off a big, exciting weekend like we had here in the 9 8 4 8, sometimes this is a little harder to get going on Monday morning, so this should help. How do you make a watered more bouncy? You add spring [00:04:00] water
in upcoming events. Heads up to the Gorge Fam. The Gorge Amphitheater is excited to announce they've been nominated for the best amphitheater for the USA's. Today's 10 Best Reader's Choice World Award. You can vote once per day until a ballots close on May 11th at 11:59 PM. We'll try and find some links for that to put in the show notes.
I haven't seen the yet, but you can check out the gorgeous Facebook page for more information. And like I said, we'll see what we can do about getting some of that added to the show notes or something. The 2026 Pike Meadow Derby will be held on May 15th through the 17th. Register at the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce or online@www.quincyvalley.com.
You can also register at Quincy Hardware and Lumber and hooked on toys in Wenatchee. There's upcoming soccer clubs, [00:05:00] tryouts, Quincy United and JS Football. Would like to invite you to open tryouts for the 20 26 20 27 season. They have in-person registrations and they'll also have someone each day to answer any questions.
You might have some great news coming in the following days. Open tryouts are May 11th through the 19th, five 30 to 7:00 PM at Lozier Park.
Just a reminder for you if you're out on the road, uh, along the highway. The paving project on I 90 from Vantage to George is well underway. Contractors are working for Wado mostly at night from 7:00 PM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, each week through August. This is gonna be a long project, bringing it down to single lane traffic.
So especially if you're traveling at night and we all know that. It doesn't necessarily get packed away during the day entirely, so it can also slow you down during the day. Give yourself [00:06:00] a little extra cushion. Remember, it's going to be down to single lanes at times, so just be aware if you're heading back and forth across I 90, down by Vantage, that goes from George all the way across the bridge.
Now, before we jump into upcoming Jack Sports and events, we're gonna cover city admin news, school news. Announcements and then we'll jump into Jack. Sports and events happening today and tomorrow. Early bird season passes are open still for the Quincy Aquatics Center. They're available at 15% discount through April 30th.
This is the last weekend to get them at that discount of prices. Come enjoy the brand new facility when they get open this summer. Buy your pass, gain your member card. Come and swim. That's right. There's gonna be cards this year. This is a new feature. If you're used to going to the Quincy Aquatic Center, you just give them your name that is getting updated, so you'll actually have a PA Physical Pass.[00:07:00]
So if you'd like to get your passes for the new Aquatic Center, get them now while they're discounted at 15% off. The qui rec department is accepting applications for lifeguards and swim instructors for the new aquatic center. Training is available and applicants must be 15 years or older to apply. If you're ready to take on a role, this equal parts fun and responsibility lifeguarding might be for you.
I loved lifeguarding when I was a kid, and I know quite a few of our lifeguards over the last few years here in area. It's a great summer job. Apply today and be part of something exciting from day one. If you have questions, you can email amanda@quincywashington.us or call 5 0 9 7 8 7 3 5 2 3 extension five.
The new park over on six is. Almost done was sitting in the city meetings last week and they intend to get that open pretty quickly. Uh, if you have not [00:08:00] driven by there and seen that landscaping is almost done. It's a beautiful new addition to our city, so be sure and check that out and look for the opening in the coming weeks.
The Quincy Animal Shelter reminds you that they're a great place to adopt an animal. If you're looking for, for your friend, stop by the animal shelter, and you may just find the perfect friend. I know personally, our family dog came from the Quincy Animal Shelter, and she has been such a huge blessing to our lives.
We love our timber. She's an amazing animal, and she is a shelter dog from right here at the shelter. Uh. And she has just been such a loving animal and they have some great animals over there. If you're considering getting a new animal, whether a cat or dog, be sure to check out the animal shelter.
They've got some great dogs over there and cats. They also ask that you check their Facebook page and help 'em get some of their lost animals back to their families as well. I know I've seen some posts on Facebook recently [00:09:00] about a missing cat, so. If you know somebody who's missing their animal, or even if you don't, go check out the Quincy Facebook aunt page for the animal shelter and see if you recognize some of the animals they're posting.
They like to share them there so that way people can get out and actually look and see if you recognize any of the animals there. Let's get 'em home in school news. The kindergartners at Monument Elementary are looking for shoe boxes for a project, and they'd be grateful if you could donate any You have.
If you have a student at Monument, you can just send them with your student, and even if they're not in the kindergarten class, they can bring them by the office. Or if you have a bunch of shoe boxes around your house and you don't have a student there, I have no doubt that you can call the amazing team over at Monument Elementaries office and ask them about donating the shoe boxes to see if they still, how many they need or if you can bring them by and they could help you with that.
It's a great opportunity to [00:10:00] share with the school if you have excess shoe boxes. I know sometimes that you get stuck stacked up around my house and I forget to throw them away, or I hold onto them for a while. So if you have some extra shoe boxes, be sure and reach out to the office over at Monument Elementary and let them know.
Obviously they have to be in decent shape. We don't want a bunch of smelly beat up shoe boxes, but if you got some good ones, they'd love to. Have those, if you don't mind sharing. On Tuesday, there's a game night scheduled at the Quincy Middle School from five to 7:30 PM way to go to our Quincy High School music department who sent two ensembles and four soloists to the state solo ensemble contest this year.
It was an incredible representation of the musical excellence occurring at our school and in North Central Washington. The following students and ensembles received an overall superior rating. At State Spectrum [00:11:00] Choir are a large mix ensemble. Owen Yates are Bass soloists, Juan Rera, our tenor soloists, all received superior ratings.
Great job. I. The following, students in ensembles received an overall excellent rating of two, and these are small jumps from excellent to superior. It's hard when you're judging that many kids with excellent ratings. The Bach Babes, which is Ruby Gonzalez and Bella Rollins for small treble ensemble. Juan Rera for a trumpet, trumpet soloist, and Emmanuel Santiago clarinet soloist.
Congratulations to our student musicians for all their work and dedication. You make us proud and a special thank you to Mr. Kevin Courtier quarter. Sorry if I'm saying that wrong, for accompanying our students and solo us and do us as well. [00:12:00] Go jazz.

My family and I went to several of the events this weekend 'cause we had so many incredible events going around the area. But one of the things we found talking to people at various events this weekend is we had a lot of people in our area who had no idea that there was an event other than the event they were at going on around our community.
We had well over a half dozen major events going on just on Saturday alone. I talked to a large amount of people who had no idea of any of these events except for the one they were currently at, which is one of the reasons we're doing this show, and one of the reasons we're asking you to share this with friends, the more people we share this with, the more people who are in the know about all the amazing things happening, and our incredible area here in the 9 8 8 4 8.
