Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Friday, May 1 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Friday, May 1st, 2026, and that's hard to believe. I can't believe it's already May. This is the Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, some of the states, and all the surrounding area. If it matters in the 98348, you'll hear it here.
In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, schools, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news. Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door or just easing your day, we're here to help you stay connected with what's happening in our community.
Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently, 48 here at the studio, gonna dip just a few degrees and start climbing pretty rapidly this morning. Today's [00:01:00] supposed to be sunny with a high near 80. Light, variable wins, but nothing to write home about. Tonight, mostly cloudy with low around 55 and some light wins.
Speaker 2: Y'all ready for this?
Speaker: And your Jack Sports recap. The JV baseball team had no score posted, sorry about that. On the 3:00 game at least, but they won the five o'clock game five to one. The Lady Jack's JB Softball lost one and won one 12 11 against Omac. No score for tennis. Our Jack Soccer C team lost. The Lady Jack softball team varsity lost one and won one.
1715 against Grandview. Go Jack.
If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is officially Mayday. That's right, that age old, been around forever holiday [00:02:00] that no one actually seems to sell today anymore. But it is Mayday, like I said, I cannot believe it's already May 1st. It's also national chocolate parfait day and there's never a bad day with a parfait.
And if you're looking for something a little more fun, it's National No Pants Day. I do caution you, you should probably wear pants to wherever you're going today. People won't take that well if you show up with no pants, but if you're just hanging around the house today, it is national, no, no pants day.
So put on some pants, go grab a parfait, and then come home and take off your pants and just hang out and have a good day. Sounds like a good day to me. Maybe I'll try it. Maybe you will. But, you know, if you're looking for a little fun, why not? Today around town, there's a lot going around in the 98848, so listen closely because there are sure to be several events for you today and this weekend.
The Back of the Jacks auction and dinner [00:03:00] is tonight at 5:00 PM at the Quincy Business and Event Center. It's sponsored by the Quincy Booster Club, and this event will include delicious food, exciting auctions, both silent and live, and so much more, all for a fantastic cause. Proceeds will go directly to the Quincy Booster Club athletics and activities and ensure our students are having the resources they need to thrive as athletes.
Tonight, there's the Riverside Listening Room experience, which is designed to provide both intimate and immersive experiences for the artists and the guests down in Sunland States. This week's performing artist is Joel Gibson Jr. Tickets are $25 in spaces limited. I went out to the Riverside restaurant and store for the last listening room experience, and it was spectacular.
I had a great time. Riverside asked the guests to arrive before 7:00 PM as the show will promptly begin at 7:30. You're gonna have a good time. There's a full menu and the food is great and the bar will be available. [00:04:00] If you're looking for a great evening tonight, it's an incredible option in our area to go out to Sunland Estates, the Riverside restaurant and store, and enjoy this intimate venue.
I promise you are gonna have an amazing time. The Quincy Record Department also presents a free drop-in adult volleyball open gym tonight for 18 and older at 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the Quincy Middle School gym. And if you're looking for a summer gig, the gorgeous is hiring their 2026 seasonal staff.
Security and event staff, you have to be 18 or older, campground ticket takers are 60 year older. Head out to their job fair today from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM to learn more about these opportunities. And tonight is drum fi- Friday in the Anderlos. This May 1st, the party is gonna be lit with Tomboras Al Toronto.
Everybody gets in free. The [00:05:00] kitchen's open all night. DJ Anteloves will be live. The atmosphere of music and vibes will not be repeated later. It's a 21 year older event from 90 PM to 1:45 AM at the Antelope at 9:15 Central Avenue South. Come with your people, dance, enjoy, and live the Antelou's experience.
It is Friday and you've finally gotten there, but you still need to smile to start the day, and you're gonna love this dad joke. Why was Cinderella so bad as soccer? She kept running away from the fall.
And upcoming events, both this weekend and heading into next week, the Quincy Police Department and Grant County Fire District three invites Quincy to join them for their second annual Quincy Police versus Fire Charity Softball game. This fun family-friendly event is a great opportunity to meet your local first responders while supporting a meaningful cause.
Missions free, [00:06:00] they're just asking for donations to benefit a local charity. This year, they'll be donating all the money raised to the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation. Their focus is providing support, services, encouragement, and information to patients and families currently battling cancer within Grant and Adams County.
Donations can be made at the event cash will be accepted or via the GCFD number three volunteer groups Venmo. This event happens Monday, May 4th at 5:30 PM for opening ceremonies and the first pitch happening at 6:00 PM at the Quincy Middle School baseball field behind the school. This event, once again, is free with the opportunity to donate to a local charity, so bring your lawn chairs, get ready for a great time.
Pick a side. It's gonna be alive, man. The last one was great. We'll see you there. A heads up from the Gorge Ampli Theater. Hey, Gorge Pham. The Gorgeam Theater is excited to announce they have been nominated for the best Ampli Theater for the USA. Today's 10 Best [00:07:00] Readers Choice Awards. You can vote once per day until ballots close on Monday, May 11th at 11:59 AM.
I've been going and voting. There are links on Facebook. Go support our local amphitheater. This is a major part of our community. Whether you go out to the concerts at The Gorge or whether you run a business and people are coming in from the Gorge and you benefit from that. This is part of our community here in the 98848.
So let's support them. It's really easy. It takes 30 seconds to click on the link and click vote. The 2026 Pike Minow Derby will be held on May 15th through the 17th. You can register at the Quincy Valley Valley Chamber of Commerce or online at www.quincyvalley.com. You can also register at Quincy Hardware and Lumber or hooked on toys in Wenatchee.
Soccer club tryouts for Quincy United and JS Football would like to invite you to their open tryouts for the 2026-2027 season. [00:08:00] They're gonna have in- person registrations. Also have someone each day to answer any questions you may have. Open tryouts will be May 11th through the 19th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Lowesure Park if you'd like to try out for the teams.
Tomorrow night, at the end we'll lose. May 2nd, come and enjoy with Band Australia's day so long. Atmosphere, live music, and the best vibes all night long. Free entry all night long. The kitchen will be open. It's 21 and only older, 21 and only event from 8:00 PM to 1:45 AM at the Antelose. Don't miss it, it's gonna be hot.
In upcoming church events, the Iron Sharpens Irons Men's Breakfast and Bible study hosted by Faith Community Church is on Saturday at 8:30 AM. Sunday the 3rd, there's groundbreaking prayer at Quincy Free Methodist Church at 9:30 AM. And there are church services at many [00:09:00] of the fine houses of worship here in 98848 community.
Connect with your local church of choice, enjoy some fellowship, worship, and connection deeper into our community. Just a reminder as you're driving this weekend, the paving project from I- 90 on I- 90 from Vanish to George is underway. And while the contractors are working primarily at night, Monday through Friday each week, seven, 70 PM to 60 AM.
We all know that it won't be totally cleaned up. And so be aware there will be some cones and stuff around. You might not have both lanes both ways. Be prepared for additional time on the road. There shouldn't be any active work, but that doesn't mean there won't be some congestion. So please be aware.
Also from the DOT, the eastern portion of the North Cascades Highway is set to reopen while part of the western section remains closed for some repairs. Be sure and check your [00:10:00] travel plans if you plan to go across Highway 20 because it is not totally open yet. Before we jump into upcoming Jack sports and events, we're gonna cover city admin news, school news, and announcements, and then we'll jump into Quincy Jack Sports Events happening today, tomorrow, and this weekend.
No updates from the city for this weekend. In school news, the Quincy High School Choir 8th annual scene concert is coming up quickly. This is a fundraiser concert with all of proceeds benefiting the QHS choir. Students audition with their favorite songs, and they put together a cover band of student musicians bring these songs to life.
They have 25 amazing covers prepared by students. It's a great way to support students doing what they actually sign up to do. Make music and sing. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for student, military or seniors. Tickets can be purchased. There's a link on Facebook as well as I'm sure you'll be able to find it from the [00:11:00] choir itself.
We'll have that posted later this week for you to be able to do as we go into next week. The concert is May 7th and Friday, May 8th in the QHS pack. Let's fill the pack for these kids. If you've been to our choir events, you know this is gonna be amazing. Uh, I've gone to sing the last couple years and it's always a fun event because most of the time, this is the kids just singing solos or duets at best.
They're singing covers of songs you know, and these kids really get to shine during this incredible event.
Speaker 2: Y'all ready for this.
Speaker: This week in Jack's sports and events, we got no games on the schedule tonight. Wow, it is a quiet night here in the 98848 for sports, but tomorrow, the Jax Varsity baseball team plays Grandview, and Jack's Varsity Soccer plays at Topanish. [00:12:00] Go Jack.
As you're heading into the weekend, let's leave you with a spectacular quote, "Put your mind right from Harry S. Truman." It's amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit. That wraps up your week here on Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast. Thank you for starting your morning with a good morning Quincy Washington Newscast, local news from the 98848 community.
