Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Monday, May 4 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Monday, May 4th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Wad News cast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the area. If it matters in the 98848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.

Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door or just easing to your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. 60 here at the studio, a little cooler in George and down in the river communities.

Today is supposed to be sunny with a high near 85. A bit breezy with some north [00:01:00] winds, 13 to 18 miles per hour, and some big gusts are possible, but hey, it's the basin area. Who's surprised about that? Tonight, partly cloudy with a low around 55. North winds nine to 14 miles per hour, per hour. Folks, it's gonna be a warm week.

Spring, early, summer is making its presence known. We're gonna be in the 80s all week, so dress appropriately, and if you're going outside for a length of time, think about wearing a hat or whatever you need to. The sun is gonna be brutal. Think about that for the game this afternoon. We'll get to that in a few minutes.

Y'all ready for this.

In your Jack Sports Recap, our Jax Baseball and soccer team suffered some tough losses over the weekend. You'll get in next time, Jax.

If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, it's Star Wars Day. That's right. [00:02:00] May the 4th be with you. It is Star Wars Day. I know my kids are jamming today. All excited. They've got special treats planned. They're breaking out the classic episode four. Uh, early this morning, I'm pretty sure. It's also International Firefighters Day.

Now, that's not telling you who to cheer for this afternoon, but, you know, give our firefighters some love. They deserve it. They do amazing things for our community and absolutely incredible people. Come out and show some love tonight and support our firefighters. It's also National Kids Fitness Day. So, get the kiddos moving today.

Our kids sit around way more than we did growing up, and it has not been a positive improvement on their lives. So, get off the screens, get outside in this nice, beautiful weather we're having, and let's get kids moving today. Today around [00:03:00] town, the Quincy Senior Center has coffee hour at 10:00 AM and line dancing at 1:00 PM.

They also host Bridge at 2:15 on Mondays. I don't have this week's menu yet, so I will go by this morning and get it as soon as I can, but it's gonna be a little bit before it shows up on the website today. Once I have it, it will be over on the website. Welcome to quincywa.com in the note section like usual.

At the library today, the English Citizenship Study Group is gathering today to work on their citizenship classes at the Quincy Public Library. Instructor Julie Michelle Mitchell will guide you through the naturalization interview, exam prep, US history and civics and eligibility requirements. All materials are provided.

It's at 4:30 PM and you can check the library for this ongoing schedule. Come learn, study, and prepare with us. Classes are taught in English only. Please contact the Quincy Public Library for any questions at [00:04:00] 509-787-2359. The Quincy Police Department and the Grant County Fire District three invites you to join them today for their second annual Quincy Please versus Fire Charities softball game.

This fun family friendly event is a great opportunity to meet your local first responders while supporting a meaningful cause. A mission is free. There's no cost. They're just asking for donations to benefit a local charity. This year, they'll be donating all the money raised to the Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation.

Their focus is providing support, services, encouragement, and information to patients and families currently battling cancer within Grant Adams County. Donations can be made at the event cash is accepted, or via the Grant County Fire District's. Number three, volunteer groups, Venmo. This event is happening this evening, May 4th, at 5:30 PM.

We're opening ceremonies with the first pitch happening at 6:00 PM at the Quincy Middle School baseball fields behind the school. Like I said, this is a free [00:05:00] event with an opportunity to donate to local charities, so bring your lawn chair and get ready for a great time. Be sure and dress appropriately.

Like I said, it's gonna be a warm win today. Lots of sunshine. Wear your big floppy hats or whatever you need to, some loose shirts, uh, and avoid those sunburns. No point in getting burned while you're out having a good time. It's gonna be a great event. It was a lot of fun last year. We'll see you guys there.

I'd love to meet you. Be sure and stop and ... Stop me and say hi if you recognize me. Uh, I love to meet you guys and get to talk to you, so I'll be there with my family, and I can't wait to see you guys there. I'm split on this one because I have friends on the fire department and the police department, and so I kind of bounce back and forth between the two sides.

It's just a really great event. So come support whoever you want to, but it's gonna be a great event in the community. It's Monday, so let's start the day ... The way every day should start with a good laugh, with your [00:06:00] daily dad show. Why did the boy bring a ladder on the bus? He wanted to go to high school.

In upcoming events, Tower Pizza and Crescent Bar will be hosting a comedy show on Saturday, May 9th at 7:00 PM. Also, on Saturday, May 9th, the Quincy Public Market presents a pop-up market and car show from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There will be food and vendors along with some gorgeous finished automobiles to Meyer.

There may even be some vendor spots still available. If you're interested in that, call Syria ... Sorry, Sierra at 509-794-3445. Hey, heads up. If you enjoy having The Gorge here in the community, the Gorge Amp Theater is excited that they've been nominated for the best Amphitheater for USA Today's 10 Best Reader Choice Awards.

You can vote once per day until the ballots close on Monday, May [00:07:00] 11th at 11:59 AM. I've been voting every day. There's a quick link over on Facebook that pops up pretty easy. If you search for The Gorge. It takes less than 30 seconds. While I'm on Facebook, I click on it. I go vote. Yay. But it's a great way to support something that's a major part of our community, and it's pretty easy to do.

So go support the Gorge, vote for the Gorge. Our little piece of amazing area right there in USA's today's Best Reader Choice Awards. I'll have someone there to do in- person registration, also to answer any questions you may have.

So check it out if you're looking to play. That will be May 11th through the 19th. Just a reminder, as you're driving this week, we've got the paving project going on on I- 90 from Vantage to George. Contractors will be working primarily at night from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, but it is gonna bring it down to one lane each direction, Monday through Friday, and we all know what a bottleneck that is, so expect some delays.

Even if you're passing during the day, they're not gonna tear down all the construction zones, so expect some delays going through that area and plan appropriately. In community highlights, if you've always wanted to grow yummy garden vegetables for your family's meals, but don't have the space where you live, maybe you need a garden [00:09:00] bed.

Veterans Operation Creation would like you to know there's a community garden on Jack Rabbit Way across the street from LaQuincy High School. It's open to public use. It's free to use, but you do need to reserve a bed. To reserve your community garden bed, call Tom Parrish at 509-797-3495. And happy gardening.

It's always cool to see people attending their garden beds over there. Uh, it's a great little opportunity in our community. I know different groups have some reserve, but they have some openings. You can find out more on Facebook as well, or you can just call Tom. Congratulations to Quincy's mid-state U12 volleyball team.

For wrapping up an amazing season with the three tournament championships, an incredible 21 and 0 record in pool play and finishing the season ranked 11 out of 81 teams in the evergreen region. They also asked that you check their Facebook and help get some of our lost animals back to their families as well. Students audition with their favorite songs, and they put together a cover band of students, musicians, and bring these songs to life. They have 25 amazing covers prepared.
