Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Wednesday, May 6 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, and welcome to another hump day edition of the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local updates for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and the surrounding area. If it matters in the 98848, you'll hear it here.

In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, schools, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news. Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community.

Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 60 here at the studio. Little cooler in George and down by the river communities. Today, sunny with a high near [00:01:00] 86. It's gonna be warm. Breezy with light and variable winds becoming 13 to 18 miles per hour in the afternoon, with the occasional hard gust because, hey, it's the 98848.

Tonight, mostly cloudy then becoming mostly clear with a low around 53. Heavy winds throughout the night. Y'all ready for this?

In your Jacks sports recap, the Jacks varsity soccer team lost against Graham U last night at home. But our Jacks h- varsity baseball team won 5-4 against Graham U High School last night. Go Jacks.

If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, besides one of our teams winning, today is National Nurses Day, and we have some tremendous nurses here in our community. It's National Skilled Trades Day, and we all need those to make [00:02:00] life work around here. We have a lot of great trades and a lot of great trade companies here in the area.

And it's also National Tourist Appreciation Day. I'm sure some people are better appreciating that than I am, but I guess they do help pay the bills, so we should ... in that area. Today around town, it's definitely a Wednesday. A little shorter list today. The Quincy Senior Center has bridge at 12:30 PM. For crafters, there's the Chat & Stitch at 1:00 PM, and I am still working on the whole menu thing.

I'm sorry, guys. I just totally have blown that beginning of this month so far.

Tonight, gather a group of friends and have a great time learning something new. The City of George is hosting line dancing lessons for beginners, offered on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the George Community Hall. $10 for each lesson. Today is $6 sushi rolls at Akins in the sushi department.

Love [00:03:00] $6 sushi day, so go over and get you something yummy today. And it's Wednesday, so we definitely need to start the day with a smile. So here's your daily dad joke to start the day. What do you call a happy cowboy? A jolly rancher.

In upcoming events, this is a long list, so listen up because there's a lot coming up pretty soon. Tower Pizza and Crescent Bar will be hosting a comedy show on Saturday, May 9th at 7:00 PM. Also on Saturday, May 9th, the Quincy Public Market presents a pop-up market and car show from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

There will be food and vendors, along with some gorgeous vintage automobiles to admire. There may be some vendor spots still available. You're gonna have to double-check. If interested, call Sierra over at 509-794-3445. Gorge [00:04:00] Fam, the support is still going. If you've heard us talk about it once, hopefully you've heard it several times and have been voting.

I have been voting every day. The Gorge Amphitheatre is excited that they've been nominated for the Best Amphitheatre in the USA Today's 10 Best Reader Choice Award- Awards. You can vote once per day until ballot closes on May 11th at 11:59 PM, AM Eastern Time. So go over, click it. I've been seeing it on Facebook.

It's a quick less than 30 seconds of your life to support a major local part of our community. The 2026 Pike Meadow Derby will be held on May 15th through 17th. Register at Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce or online at quincyvalley.com. You can also register at Quincy Hardware & Lumber or Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee.

On May 11th through the [00:05:00] 19th, we've got open tryouts for the Quincy United and JS football soccer clubs, and they'd love to invite you to their open tryouts for the 2026-2027. They'll have in-person registrations and someone each day to answer questions. Tryouts are from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Loser Park.

That's May 11th through the 19th. The Greater Qu- Crescent Bar Association's second annual Crescent Bar Tick- Pickleball Tournament is here, and it's time to rally. The event is June 27th, 2026, and they have open slots for 64 teams. It will be the biggest tournament they've ever done. Co-ed teams only.

Whether you're coming back to defend your title or stepping on the court for the first time, this is your moment. Grab your partner, bring your A-game, and get ready for an unforgettable day of competition, fun, and Crescent Bar vibes. Spots will fill very quickly. Don't wait. [00:06:00] Register now and secure your place in the tournament.

Let's make this year even bigger, louder, and more competitive. See you guys on the court. Grab your friends and join us for a cozy creative even- evening at an adults-only craft and sip on May 12th at 5:00 PM at the Jones Washington Taste Room inside Quincy Public Market. If you're ready for a fun night out, treat yourself to an evening of creativity, wine, and good company at the Jones Winery Tasting Room at the Quincy Public Market.

This special adults only event brings together the best of both worlds. Spring-themed crafts taught by the talented Kim Bacon, led by your local Quincy Public Library staff. Delicious wine available for purchase from Jones. A relaxed social atmosphere perfect for unwinding with friends. Perfect for a date night, a girls' night, or a solo unwind.

All craft supplies are provided. Just bring your creativity. No registration is needed, but space and supplies are limited, so arriving early is a good [00:07:00] idea. Huge thank you to the Quin- Quincy Friends of the Library for supporting the community favorite. Come sip, craft, and bring a friend or meet some new ones and make something beautiful to welcome spring.

New addition to the list today, Poetry Open Mic Night at the museum at 7:00 PM. Join us tomorrow evening and bring a poem to share at the Quincy Historic Society Poetry Open Mic Night at the museum at 7:00 PM tomorrow. In church events, Faith Community Church has youth group tonight at 6:30 PM, open to all sixth through 12th graders.

Junior high and high schoolers gather to spend time with friends, eat together, hear the word, and play some awesome games. St. Paul Lutheran Church offers an after-school program every Wednesday on school days from after school until 5:30 PM. You can find their registration form on Facebook or visit the office.

Their youth group is always welcoming young persons from sixth grade to 12th grade, starting at 5:30 PM, followed by youth group [00:08:00] activities and Bible until 7:45. And for younger grades, the First Baptist Church hosts Awana for grades kindergarten through six at 6:00 PM. It's a Bible club similar to Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts with the goal of obtaining more in-depth knowledge of the Bible.

In community highlights and announcements, just a reminder, as you're driving this week, the paving project on I-90 from Banish to George is ongoing at night from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Friday, each day of the week. Or, sorry, each week through August, bringing it down to a single lane of traffic.

Be prepared for additional time going on the roads, especially on Thursdays and Fridays. Have you ever wanted to grow yummy garden vegetables for your family's meals but don't have a space where you live? Would you like a garden bed? Veterans Operation Creation would like you to know there's a community garden on Jackrabbit Way across the street from the Quincy High School that's open for public use It's free to use, but you do need to reserve your bed.[00:09:00]

To reserve your community garden bed, call Tom Parrish at 509-797-3495, and happy gardening. Do you know someone who might love to share their creativity with the community? The Quincy Public Library is looking for local artists or photographers to display their artwork in the art gallery at the Quincy Public Library.

If you or someone you know would be interested, please email qvlf2011. Yep, that one's confusing. qvlf2011@gmail.com and let us know what type of artwork you'd like to share. In your PSAs, hey, it's five days to Mother's Day. Don't get caught unaware, and don't get your mom something lame. Mothers and fathers should be celebrated, but this one is Mother's Day, and so [00:10:00] with Mother's Day upcoming, don't get caught waiting till the last minute. Whether it's the mother of your children or your own mom, that special lady in your life deserves to be celebrated, and you got five days till it's officially Mother's Day.

Now, before we jump into upcoming Jack Sports and events, we're gonna cover city admin news, school news, and announcements, and then we'll jump into Jack Sports and events happening today and tomorrow. Under city offices, by popular demand, coming out of last night's city council meeting, the early bird season passes for Quincy's new aquatic center.

The discount is still active. In fact, it's being extended through May 15th. It was so popular and so many people are excited about the new aquatic center that the city council approved an extension on the fifteen percent discount through May 15th. So that gives you ten more days to get the fifteen percent discount on your [00:11:00] early bird season pass for the new aquatic center.

Come enjoy the brand-new facility when it gets open this summer. Buy your pass, get your member card, come in and swim. Trust me, it's where everybody's gonna be this summer. When it gets hot, we're all gonna be enjoying that new amazing aquatic center. I drive by it all the time. I'm super excited. It's gonna be a great summer.

In school news, the twenty twenty-six Quincy FFA plant sale has also been extended through today with large discounts of up to sixty to eighty percent off from three thirty PM to five PM. That's right. They've gotta get all the plants out. Everything must go sixty to eighty percent off, three thirty to five PM.

Cash or checks only. Support your local high school FFA chapter and get your garden growing. They're selling a variety of fresh herbs, vegetable plants Beautiful flowers all grown by the students. The greenhouse is located behind Quincy High School [00:12:00] between the Red Barn and the tennis co- courts. Hope to see you there this afternoon.

QHS Choir's eighth annual sing concert is almost here. In fact, it's tomorrow. This is a fundraising concert with all proceeds benefiting the QHS Choir. Students audition with their favorite songs, and they put together a cover band of student musicians with some adults to support them. They have 25 amazing covers prepared.

It's a great way to support students doing what they actually signed up to do, which is m- make music and sing. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, military, or senior. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or they have a gofan.co link that you can find over on Facebook. The concert is Thursday, May 7th, and there's another showing of it Friday, May 8th in the QHS PAC.

They really wanna fill the PAC to support these kids. They worked really hard, and guys, I've gone to this several times in the past, and it's always fun. It's [00:13:00] great to see some of these kids performing some incredible covers. You'll laugh. You'll have a lot of fun. You'll enjoy the evening. I'm looking forward to it.

I can't wait to go. I'll see you guys over for the eighth annual sing concert. A big congratulations to our Quincy School District students who competed at the Special Olympics East Regional Track and Field Competition this past weekend. We're proud to share that all of our athletes qualified for state competition by placing first and second in their events.
