Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Monday, May 11 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Monday, May 11th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 98848, you'll hear it here. A special belated Mother's Day wish to all the amazing mothers out there putting in the work every single day.

I hope you had an amazing Mother's Day. You are seen, you are loved, and even when we forget to tell you, thank you for all you do. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.

Whether you're heading to work, getting kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. [00:01:00] Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 50 here at the studio, with the feels like temperature playing a little havoc on the senses, making it feel a little colder than it actually is, so it's got that chill to the morning.

Today, sunny with a high near 77. Northwest winds five to seven miles per hour, but pretty calm most of the day. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 50. Calm winds. Should be a pretty mild day all around. Y'all ready for this?

In your Jacks sports recap, it was a tough weekend for the Jacks varsity baseball team as they lost against Ellensburg at Othello on Saturday, ending their season with the quarterfinals. Great run, Jacks. We're proud of you. Go Jacks.

If you're looking for a [00:02:00] reason to celebrate, it's National Eat What You Want Day. Yep, have whatever you want, no guilt involved. It's also National Hostess Cupcake Day, so that kind of coincides really well. And to top it all off, it's National Bike to Work Week. I kinda think that was planned to help you with the other two, but hey, why not?

I used to ride my bike to work all the time, and it's a great way to start your morning. But if you're gonna do National Eat What You Want Day and National Hostess Cupcake Day, it's definitely a good time to dust off that bike and maybe start taking that to work. Today around town, we're easing back into the week.

The Quincy Senior Center hosts Coffee Hour at 10:00 AM, line dancing at 1:00 PM, and bridge at 2:15. If you're looking for the menu, you'll find it over on our website, welcomeToQuincyWA.com in the notes section a little bit later today At the library today, they have the English [00:03:00] Citizenship Study Group, and they invite you to join them for free classes at the Quincy Public Library.

Instructor Julie Michelle Mitchell will help guide you through the naturalization interview, exam prep, US history and civics, which always is confusing, and eligibility requirements. All materials are provided. It's at 4:30 PM, and you can check the library for the schedule. Come learn, study, and prepare with us.

Classes are taught in English only. Please contact Quincy Public Library for any questions at 509-787-2359. It's Monday. We all need that dad joke to start the week out right and put a smile on your face this morning, so here it is. What has keys but can't open locks? A piano.

In upcoming events, grab your friends and join us for a cozy creative evening at the [00:04:00] adults-only Craft and Sip on Tuesday, May 12th at 5:00 PM at the Jones Washington Tasting Room inside Quincy Public Market. If you're ready for a fun night out, this is a special adults only event to bring together the best of both worlds.

Spring-themed crafts taught by the talented Kim Bacon, led by your Quincy Public Library staff. Also, delicious wine available for purchase at Jones Winery. Relaxed social atmosphere perfect for unwinding with friends. It's perfect for date night, girls' night, or a solo unwind. No judgments. Whatever is good for you is good.

All craft supplies are provided. Just bring creativity. No registration is needed, but space is limited, so arriving early is a great idea. Huge thank you to the Quincy Friends of the Library for supporting this community favorite. Come sip, craft, and bring a friend or meet someone new, and make something beautiful to welcome in spring.

Heads up, Gorge [00:05:00] fam, the Gorge Ampitheatre is in the running for USA Today's 10 Best Reader Choice Awards for the Best Amphitheater, and voting ends tonight, but you can still get one more vote in today. I've been voting every day. I hope you have, too. Let's support this amazing venue that we have right here in our community that is such a big part of our community.

There will be someone there to answer questions, to do registration, and to help you figure out if this is the right thing for you.
