Breezy with a west wind of 17 to 21 miles per hour. [00:01:00] We're out of the advisory, but still expect some winds today. Tonight, cooling off a bit, mostly cloudy during the evening, then gradually clearing with a low around 42. Little breezy with a northwest wind, 11, 20 mi- miles per hour. Y'all ready for this? In your Jack sports recap, for the middle school yesterday, our seventh grade Lady Jacks softball team had no score posted at the Icicle River Middle School.
Our eighth grade Jack soccer team lost 3-0 against Ephrata Middle School in a home game. Sorry for that, guys. And our seventh grade Jack soccer team tied 1-1 at home against Ephrata Middle School. Go Jacks.
If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is National Buttermilk Biscuit Day and Dance Like a Chicken Day. [00:02:00] Of course, thinking about biscuits makes me think L&R Cafe sounds really good for breakfast today. And if you're gonna dance like a chicken, be sure and record that and post that to social media so we can all smile or just laugh at you, or maybe just do that with your kids and have a little fun today.
Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center has an exercise class today at 1:00 p.m., pinochle at 3:00 p.m., and they also play Mexican Train after dinner at 6:30 p.m. The dinner menu will be posted over in the notes section on walkthroughquincywa.com if you're interested in that. The Quincy Rotary Club will be meeting at 12:10 today just inside Jack's Restaurant at the Quincy Market.
Ongoing soccer club tryouts with Quincy United Club Americana Football would like to invite you to their open tryouts for 2026, 2027. They have people there to help you register- Each day and to answer [00:03:00] questions that you may have about the club. Open tryouts will continue through the 19th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Loesjer Park.
Register now for the Junior Jacks Basketball Kids Camp for pre-K to third grade kids on June 15th and 16th at Ancient Lakes Elementaries. Price for the camp is $40. Your kids will have the opportunity to participate in fun skill-building basketball activities and games. Make sure your child brings a water bottle, wears athletic clothing and sneakers.

In upcoming events, there's live music at Monkeying Around Pizza this Friday night from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. Saturday, May 16th at the Quincy Middle School, come out and support the De La Rosa Boxing Club by attending their fourth annual Marciano De La Rosa Memorial Boxing Tournament. Doors open at 2:30 PM with an event starting at 3:00 PM. Admission is $12 for adults, and kids 8 and under are $6. This is a great community event.
Support one of our local clubs. [00:05:00] This Saturday, May 16th, George Washington Coffee House proudly presents a bluegrass concert by Five Mile Drive at the George Community Hall at 6:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Admission is $5 per person, and kids 12 and under are free. There will be refreshments served and a hat pass for the band.
Also, Saturday, May 16th is boat inspection day at Sunland Estates. From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Grant County Sheriff's Department Marine Unit will be conducting boat inspections. This is an educational event designed to inform you and keep you and your family safe. Get a boat inspection sticker for if you pass, which takes care of that necessity of having your boat out on the water in the state of Washington.
For your kiddos this weekend, the Recreation Department would like to invite you to A fairy camp for little ones ages three to eight from 1:00 to 3:30 on [00:06:00] Saturday the 16th at the Quincy Activity Center. Space is limited, so register now at quincywashington.us for fairy camp, once again, for kids ages three to eight.
Now, I know all of us older kids would love to go to fairy camp, but I'm sorry, you can't do that. But your three to eight-year-olds will absolutely love it. So go register now, and if you're lucky, you get to hang out for a little while and kind of enjoy it. The Riverside Store in Sunland Estates invites you to join them for Comedy & Mimosas, a live comedy show featuring Monica Neve this Sunday, May 17th, at 10:30 AM.

For parents, get ready for the Ready for Kinder event hosted by Pioneer Elementary. Ready for Kinder provides brief age-based parent workshops with take-home material and simple activities to help build children's early learning skills at home. The remaining 2026 workshops dates in English are today, Thursday, May 14th, and Tuesday, May 19th.
All classes are from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in the library at Pioneer Ele- Elementary. Children must be three or four years old to... for parents to register for the workshop.
