Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Monday, May 18 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Monday, May 18th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 98848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.
Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day. Let's start with today's forecast. Currently about 50 degrees. Five different sources don't actually agree on the exact temperature, or even if it feels like it's warmer or cooler than that currently.
[00:01:00] Apparently, you know, that's the credibility of the weather industry. However, they all agree that today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny with a high near 72. Light and variable winds. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 46, with some wind and the occasional gust. Fairly normal Quincy weather.
Y'all ready for this?
In your Jack Sports recap, it appears as though our Jack Sports teams were given a much-deserved weekend off this last weekend, with the exception of our junior high track and field team. But they never post scores, so if you know anybody from that group, I'm sure those kids worked really hard. Be sure and show 'em some love and ask about how their meet went this last Saturday.
If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is National Dir- No Dirty Dishes Day. Give yourself a break from doing dirty dishes, or go out to eat, [00:02:00] or eat food that doesn't require dishes. Just give yourself a break from that monotony that is the everyday existence of being an adult. Yes, dishes have to be done, and that's just part of life.
So take a break today. Eat out. Eat food that doesn't require dishes. Do something. Give yourself a little love. It's also I Love Reese's Day. Now, I am a Reese's person. I understand that they're apparently really bad for us or something, if you follow all the food industry news, but I still have a weakness for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and a few other Reese's products.
So it's I Love Reese's Day, and I'm on board with that. It's also National Visit Your Relatives Day. I'll leave that right there. You can decide what you wanna do with that. Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center hosts coffee at 10:00 AM, line dancing at 1:00, and they also host bridge on Mondays at 2:15 PM if you play bridge.
If you'd like to know the menu for each day, we have it posted on our website, welcome2quincywa.com [00:03:00] In the notes section. Today is tips for seniors. Go to Whip anytime today. You'll find the seniors fundraising. They appreciate any tip. Every tip goes to their graduation par- party. It can be on a credit card or cash.
Come and grab your favorite drink, leave a little extra love in the tip jar, and help them celebrate seniors one sip at a time. Now it's Monday morning, so we know we need a little smile to start the week, and to start it off properly, here is your bad dad joke. How does cereal pay its bills? With checks.
In upcoming events, Quincy United, officially now Club Americana Quincy, is still hosting open tryouts for the 2026-2027 season. Open tryouts will continue through the 19th from 5:30 to 7 PM at Losure Park. [00:04:00] Register now for the Junior Jacks Basketball Camp for pre-K through third grade kids on June 15th and 16th at Ancient Lakes Elementary.
Price for the camp is $40. Your kids will have an opportunity to participate in fun, skill-building basketball activities and games. Make sure your child brings a water bottle, wears athletic clothes and sneakers. Bring a basketball if you have one. To register, go to quincyyouthbasketball.com. Tonight, Monkeying Around Pizza is hosting Music Bingo Night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Put a little fun tonight into your Monday night. Bring your friends for a great time. All you need to bring is your phone.
In community highlights and safety announcements, do you know someone who might love to share their creativity with the community? The Quincy Public Library is looking for local artists and photographers to display their artwork in their art gallery. If you or someone you know would be interested, please [00:05:00] email qvlf2011@gmail.
That's qvlf2011@gmail, and let us know what type of artwork you'd like to share. If you can send a picture or some examples, that'd be appreciated, along with your name and contact information. Later this week, the Sheriff's Race Candidate Forum is coming to Quincy. If you've been wanting to hear directly from our candidates running for the Grant County Sheriff, this is your opportunity.
Welcome to Quincy WAD News in partnership with the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Port of Quincy, is hosting the Sheriff's Race Candidate Forum on Thursday, May 21st from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Quincy Valley Business and Event Center. All candidates have been invited to participate and have confirmed, and the goal is simple: Give the community a chance to hear what each candidate stands for- What they're prioritizing, how they plan to serve the county, and more.
This is a non-partisan event, and [00:06:00] everyone in the community is welcome to attend. We also want this to reflect what you care about, and if you have specific current concerns, questions, or topics you'd like to see answered, email us at info@thefallibleman.com. We'll be using community input to help shape the questions for the forum.
If it matters to you, this is the chance to help guide the conversation and get to know these amazing candidates. I had someone tell me last week that they actually know nothing about all three of the candidates, and that is exactly why we're hosting this event this coming Thursday night, because you should not vote for such an important office without having some idea who these men are who are asking to serve the community for the next four years.
Please consider coming and being a part of this event. We'll also be live streaming the event on our YouTube channel in case you absolutely cannot make it. But I do encourage you to come in person. There's something different about being in the room. Now, before we jump into upcoming Jacks sports and events, we're gonna cover [00:07:00] city admin news, school news, and announcements, and then we'll cover Jacks sports and events happening today and tomorrow.
The Quincy Animal Shelter reminds you to adopt, don't shop. They're open from Monday through Saturday from nine AM to four PM, and have a lot of great animals looking for their forever families. My dog came from the shelter here in Quincy, and has been a loved part of our family for years. If you're interested in adopting, please do not hesitate to call 509-787-4718, extension two.
Tomorrow, there's a City of Quincy City Council meeting. Meetings are open to the public and are held on the first and third Thur- Tuesday of every month from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at City Hall, located at 104 B Street Southwest. In school news, for our parents, get ready for the Ready for Kinder event hosted by Pioneer Ele- Elementary.
