Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Wednesday, May 20 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sundland Estates, and the surrounding area. If it matters in the 98848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.
Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day. Let's start with today's forecast. Currently 50 here at the studio. Little cooler in George, little warmer in the river communities.
Today, partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny and having a high near [00:01:00] 76. North winds, six to nine miles per hour. Tonight, partly cloudy with a low of 51. North winds seven to 10 miles per hour. It's gonna be a pretty good day here in the basin area. Y'all ready for this?
In your Jack Sports recap, for the middle school, our Lady Jacks eighth grade softball team lost at Chelan Middle School, and our Lady Jacks seventh grade softball team lost against Endeavor Middle School at home. Our Jacks golf teams continue their tournaments out in their respective tournaments, and we can't wait to hear how they did.
Go Jacks.
If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is World Bee Day. It raises awareness for the pollinators that help make our food possible. It's something we certainly know in this area. It is springtime, and the [00:02:00] hives are out for pollination. Uh, if you live in this area, you can't help but be aware of bees, but do you understand just how very vital they are to our livelihoods and our food chain?
So, you know, avoid the roads that are crowded with bees for pollinating right now. But it is time to appreciate those amazing little animals. It's also National Rescue Dog Day, a perfect day to go find your next four-legged fam- family member, say, maybe over at the Quincy Animal Shelter, and, uh, find your forever friend that way.
And hey, it's also National Band Director Day, so give a shout-out to our local band directors. We are blessed in our community to have a great arts program, and we have some outstanding band directors in our community. And if your kids benefit from that, even if your kids aren't in that program- We benefit from that c- um, as a community, so be sure and give a shout-out to our band directors today and thank them [00:03:00] for the awesome job they do.
These awesome people help transfer ragtag groups of questionable sounds into wonderful concert musics, uh, like the one coming up this Thursday. Today at the Quincy Senior Center, bridge is at 12:30 PM. For crafters, there's a chat and stitch at 1:00 PM. There's also a board of directors meeting for the senior center at 2:00 PM, and the lunch menu is posted to the Notes section of the Welcome to Quincy WAA website, as always.
Tonight, the city of George is hosting line dancing lessons for beginners, offered at Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the George Community Hall for $10 a lesson. Gather a group of friends and have a great time learning something new. If you've never been line dancing, you're in for a treat.
And it's also six dollar sushi rolls, rolls at Eakins Sushi Department, so swing by, grab your favorite roll, and enjoy a bite to eat. It is hump day, and we [00:04:00] have just what you need to start your morning right with your daily dad joke. What do you call a sad cup of coffee? Depresso.
In upcoming events, registration is open for the second annual Crescent Bar Pickleball Tournament, which is held June 27th. Here's everything you need to know. The registration deadline is June 13th. Friday, June 26th, there's check-in at Tower Pizza from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, where you pick up your T-shirt, food, and drink specials.
Friday, June 26th at Hangar Pub, 7:00 to 9:00 with live music for Bo- with Bo Warren. And Saturday, June 27th is tournament day. Start times to be announced. The awards ceremony will be at 5:00 PM at Sunfire Grill and Lounge, Crescent Bar that night. 64 co-ed teams only is what they have space for. It's gonna be their biggest event ever.
You can find the registration over on their [00:05:00] Facebook page for the Greater Crescent Bar Association. There's a sip and shop at WIP. Join us Friday afternoon, the 22nd, for a little thrifting. Multiple girls, one massive yard sale. Come sip on your favorite WIP drink while you find some steals. Clothes, furniture, movies, and much, much more.
We'll also have strawberry Dubai cups for sale. And to top it off, Churro Man 509 will be selling hot, fresh, made-to-order churros. So come enjoy a little thrifting on Friday. Get ready for the summer library program to start. Summer's almost here, and they're gearing up for a season full of reading, creativity, and fun at the Quincy Public Library.
Kickoff day is Friday, June 5th. Stop by the library to sign up or join any time afterwards. And jump into a summer packed with activities, challenges, and prizes for our young people. Also, the library would like to share [00:06:00] Boost Your Brain Health for you and the people you love. Join us for an empowering community session on brain health and dementia awareness presented by the Latino Civic Alliance, May 28th from 4:00 to 5:30 PM.
The Quincy Public Library would like to say it's never too early and never too late to take steps to support a healthier brain. Come learn, reflect, and connect with others who care about building a stronger, more infing- informed community. During this session, you will explore what the brain health looks like in our communities, learn modifiable risk factors and why early detection matters, and discover resources for continued learning and support and action.
Gain tools to help yourself and loved ones. Also in upcoming events, come celebrate with us the B Street Bash, Microsoft's 20th anniversary in Quincy, May 28th. Microsoft is hosting a huge community celebration with free food, a beer garden, live music, free desserts, games, and so much more. Thursday, May [00:07:00] 28th, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, B Street, Quincy, Washington.
Come for fun, stay for the community. In church events, Faith Community Church has youth group at 6:30 PM tonight, open to all sixth through 12th graders. Junior high and high schoolers gather to spend time with friends, eat together, hear the word, and play awesome games. In community highlights and safety announcements, Vantage Road Southwest is closed indefinitely to both motorists and pedestrians at Silik Road Southwest due to a rockslide that occurred May 15th.
They thought they would have it cleaned up by now, but they're not completely sure because they think it's done some damage. Not only are there rocks still on the road, but the slide area is dangerous and there's some unknown damage to the roadway they're still inspecting and trying to work out, so that whole area is closed off.
The Sheriff's Race Forum comes to Quincy this Thursday. One of the most important races in Grant County is coming directly to this community [00:08:00] Thursday. Welcome to Quincy WADA News, alongside the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce and with the support of the Port of Quincy, we'll be hosting the Grant County Sheriff's Race Candidate Forum this Thursday, May 21st from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Quincy Valley Business and Events Center.
This is an opportunity for people here in the 98848 and across Grant County to hear directly from the candidates about public safety, law enforcement priorities, community concerns, and the direction they believe the sheriff's office should be taking moving forward. All candidates have been invited and accepted, and the event is being held as a nonpartisan community forum focused on giving voters clear information before the ballots go out.
We also want this conversation shaped by the people who actually live here, so if you have questions, concerns, or issues you want addressed during the forum, send them to info@thefallibleman.com. This is the last day that we are taking- Input from the community as we finalize the questions for the event.
Community input will help guide the discussion and make sure the topics reflect what matters most to [00:09:00] local residents. Whether you plan to attend in person or watch the live stream, this is your chance to be part of the conversation before Grant County chooses its next sheriff. Now, before we jump into upcoming Jack sports and events, we're gonna cover city admin news, school news, and announcements, and then we'll cover Quincy Jack sports and events happening today and tomorrow.
In city offices, last night the City Council of Quincy voted to offer a cash reward to individuals providing critical and credible evidence leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the graffiti tagging plaguing our fair town. The reward is set at $1,000, and more information is available from the police department.
City offices, like many other businesses in town, will be closed on Memorial Day, that's next Monday, uh, along with federal offices and so on and such forth. So be prepared for that on Monday. In school news, the Quincy Booster Club for Music invites you to come eat tacos and support the band. Join them today for [00:10:00] dinner at Rich's Tacos.
50% of proceeds will be donated to the QHS band today from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. The special is $10 for three tacos, side of rice and beans, and canned drinks. You're invited to the QHS music department's final concert on Thursday, May 21st at the QHS PAC. New to this year, they will be having two separate concerts due to the capacity constraints in the PAC, and we learned lessons on the last event.
Concert number one with the QHS Choir is at 6:00 PM, doors open at 5:30. Concert number two with the QHS Band is at 7:30, doors open at 7:00 PM. Please join us to celebrate the hard work of our student musicians at these family-friendly fun concerts. These concerts also act as our senior night and award ceremony.
We hope to see you there in person, but a live stream will also be available at the QSD YouTube page. Don't forget, this Friday is early release from school, and there will be no [00:11:00] school on Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Y'all ready for this?
In Jack sports and events today and tomorrow, our middle school Jack soccer team, seventh and eighth grade, play at Pioneer Middle School in Wenatchee. And in high school sports, our Jacks and Lady Jacks varsity golf teams continue their tournaments at Tumwater Valley Golf Course and Riverside Golf Course.
