Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Thursday, May 21 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Thursday, May 21st, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the area. If it matters in the 98848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.

Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 50 here at the studio. A little cooler in George, a little warmer in the river communities.

Today, increasing clouds with a high near 76. North winds five to 70 m- uh, five to seven, not 70. Five [00:01:00] to seven miles per hour, becoming south in the afternoon. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 52. South winds five to seven miles per hour. Y'all ready for this?

Seeing your Jack Sports recap for the middle school, our Jack seventh grade team, no results posted against their Pioneer game. Not sure what happened there. Uh, be sure and ask one of them if you have a seventh grader or if you know a seventh grader. And our Jack's eighth-grade team tied 1-1 against Pioneer Middle School.

Go Jacks.

If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is National Strawberries and Cream Day, and I gotta say, that's pretty hard to beat with some, like, angel food cake or something. You know, I got a weak spot for strawberries and cream. But if you're looking for an even better reason to celebrate, today is National Mmm, [00:02:00] Talk Like Yoda Day.

Drive your friends crazy, you will. That's my best Yoda im- imitation at 4:00 in the morning, guys. I can't promise it was a good one, but I hope it made, made you smile. Drive your friends crazy. Drive your coworkers a little bit crazy today. Talk like Yoda. Do your best Yoda impersonations. Light up Facebook.

If you're listening to this, do me a favor, light up Facebook. Do a little selfie video and talk like Yoda, and do Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast in your best Yoda voice. I would love to see that. It would absolutely make my day. Uh, so let's light up Facebook and other social media today, and share that with us.

Tag us. I'm just Brent Dowlen over at Facebook, but I'd love to see that today. It would just be a hilarious day to make my day a little brighter. And you're gonna make other people laugh, 'cause let's face it, we all like to do our best Yoda impersonation. Today around [00:03:00] town, there's some important things going on, uh, sprinkled throughout the show this morning.

But we're gonna start with the Quincy Senior Center has an exercise class today at 1:00 PM, Pinochle at 3:00 PM, and they're also playing Mexican Train at 6:30 after dinner. The Quincy Rotary Club will be meeting at 12:10 today, uh, at Jack's Restaurant over at Quincy Market. The Riverside Store and Restaurant in Sunland Estates is hosting trivia tonight, tonight at 6:00 PM.

And be sure and register now for the Junior Jacks Basketball Kids Camp for pre-K through third grade kids. It's on June 15th through... and 16th at Ancient Lakes Elementary. The price for the camp is $40. Your kids will have the opportunity to participate in fun, skill-building basketball activities and games.

Make sure your child brings a water bottle, wears athletic clothing and sneakers, and brings a basketball if they have one. To register, go to quincyyouthbasketball.com. But if you wanna be involved in that, you need to get your kids registered. [00:04:00] Registration will close soon. It's Thursday. You've almost made it through the week, but we all need that smile, and if you didn't smile at my Yoda impersonation, you obviously have no sense of humor.

No, I'm just kidding. But here's another reason. Here's your Daily Dad Joke. A cop started crying while he was writing me a ticket. I asked him why, and he said, "It's a moving violation."

In upcoming events, there's a sip and shop at Whipped. Join us Friday afternoon the 22nd for a little thrifting. Multiple girls, one massive yard sale. Come sip your favorite Whipped drink while you find some steals. Clothes, furniture, movies, and much more. There's be all kinds of options. They'll also have their strawberry Dubai cups for sale.

And to top it off, Churro Man 509 will be selling hot, fresh made or to order churros. Also, Friday the 22nd, Sushi Yaki is reopening for the season over between the Farmers Insurance and Kwan Family Dentistry, and it's bringing [00:05:00] back their teriyaki along with their fresh premium sushi rolls that they've been working on in this off season.

In community highlights, the Sheriff's Race Forum comes to Quincy tonight. One of the most important races in Grant County is happening right here in Quincy tonight. Welcome to Quincy Wild News, along with the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Port of Quincy will host the Grant County Sheriff's Race Candidate Forum tonight from 5:30 to 6- or 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Quincy Valley Business and Event Center.

This is an opportunity for people here in the 9848 and across Grant County to hear directly from the candidates about public safety, law enforcement priorities, community concerns, and the future direction of the sheriff's office. All candidates are attending, and the event is being held as a non-partisan community forum focused on helping voters make informed decisions before ballots go out.

We know there's a lot of events and commitments happening this time of year, and that includes today. This conversation impacts every community across Grant County for the [00:06:00] next four years. The forum will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend, but we strongly encourage people to come in person if possible.

Community conversations matter more when the community shows up. It's at the Quincy Valley Business and Event Center tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Whether you attend in per- in person or watch online on our YouTube channel at Good Morning Quincy Wild Newscast, this is your chance to be part of the conversation before Grant County chooses the next sheriff.

Before we jump into upcoming Jack sports and events, we're gonna cover city administration news, school news, and announcements, and then cover Quincy Jack sports events happening today and tomorrow. In city offices, the Quincy Animal Shelter reminds you, adopt, don't shop.

They're open Monday through [00:07:00] Saturday, 9:00 to 4:00, and have a lot of great animals looking for their forever families. My dog came from the shelter here, and it's been a loved part of our family for years. Uh, I just... I love my dog. I'm such a dog person, and she has just been such a spectacular animal. I found her there at the animal shelter when she was a puppy, and she has just been a part of our lives, and puts a smile on our face every day.

We all love our puppy. So if you're interested in adopting, please don't hesitate to call at 509-787-4718, extension 2. Also in city news, we're seeing a lot of comments on our piece we ran about graffiti, and the fact that the city is posting a reward for, uh, information leading to the arrest of people involved with graffiti in our community.

You can find that story over on our website, welcome2quincywa.com. In school news, you're invited to the QHS Musical Department's [00:08:00] final concert tonight in QHS PAC. New this time, they're gonna have two separate concerts due to the capacity constraints of the PAC, because the last joint concert was busting at the seams.

Concert one with the QHS Choir is at 6:00 PM, with the doors opening at 5:30 PM. Concert two with the QHS Band is at 7:30 PM, with the doors opening at 7:00. Please join us to celebrate the hard work of our student musicians at these family-friendly, fun concerts. These concerts also act as our senior night and awards ceremony.

We hope to see you there in person, but a live stream will also be available at the QSD YouTube page. For Jackrabbits football, if y- you're a student and you're thinking about playing football next season, come meet the Quincy High School football coaches. Ask questions, connect with players, and learn what Jackrabbit football is all about.

That's happening today in Quincy High School, room G203, during both lunches. All interested future [00:09:00] football players are welcome. Bring a friend, grab some lunch. Come check it out. Learn what Jackrabbit football is all about. Don't forget, this Friday is early release from school as we move into Memorial Day weekend.

There is no school on Monday. So please make sure that is marked on your calendar, and you understand if you have a younger kid, they will not be in school all day, not just out of school Monday, but they will have early release Friday as well. Y'all ready for this?

In your Jack sports and events, there's no games scheduled for middle school or high school today. Tomorrow, our varsity Jacks and Lady Jacks track team host day two of the 2026 WIAA Classic 2A District 5 Championships at Quincy Jackrabbit Stadium starting at 3:30 PM. Go Jacks.

As we wrap out today's show, let's leave it [00:10:00] with a quote from Catherine Pulsifer. "If we haven't the attitude that it's going to be a great day, it usually is."
