Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Monday, May 25 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Friday, May 25th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Summerlin Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. Today is Memorial Day, and we invite you to stay for the entire show, as we'll end the show a little bit differently today.

In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news. Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community.

Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 53 here at the studio. A little warmer in George and the river [00:01:00] communities. High around 80 today. Partly sunny, breezy, with light variable winds becoming west 8 to 23 miles per hour in the mornings, with possible wind gusts as high as 33.

Tonight, a 40% chance of showers, cloudy with a low around 48, and continued winds throughout the day. Y'all ready for this?

In your Jack Sports recap, you're gonna have to tap the golf team and ask how they did. There's no results posted as they went through day two of the tournament. But if you know somebody on the golf team, be sure to check in with them and see how that went. Otherwise, there were no sports for the Jacks over the weekend.

Today is M- Memorial Day. It was originally founded back in 1868 as Decoration Day to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers who defended our country, and later it changed to Memorial Day and [00:02:00] adopted as a federal holiday in 1971. Today is the day to remember all those who gave their lives in the ultimate sacrifice that you and I can enjoy the freedoms of this great nation, and that's more than enough reason to celebrate.

We live in an amazing country because of the incredible men and women who have laid down their lives for us. Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center hosts Coffee Hour at 10:00 A.M., line dancing at 1:00 P.M. They also host bridge on Mondays at 2:15 P.M. If you'd like to know the menu for each day, we have it posted on the website, welcomeToQuincyWA.com in the notes section.

The community is invited to help raise veterans' flags this morning at 7:00 A.M. over at the Quincy Cemetery. They'll also need help taking them down at 5:00 P.M. if you would like to help in that honor. Today, the American Legion Post 183 is hosting a Memorial Day service at 12:30 P.M. at the Quincy Valley Cemetery.[00:03:00]

Veterans Operation Creation singers will be in attendance. There will be luminaries set out at the cemetery remembering those we've lost. While some people are off today, I know a lot of us are still going to work, and you gotta start with that smile on your face. It is Monday. We need a reason to smile.

So here's your daily dad joke to put a smile on your face. I once wrote a song about tortillas. Well, I guess actually it's more of a wrap.

In upcoming events for you and people you love, join us for an empowering community session on brain health and dementia awareness presented by the Latino Civic Alliance on Thursday, May 28th at 4:00 to 5:30 PM at the Quincy Public Library. It's never too early and it's never too late to take steps to support a healthier brain.

Come learn, reflect, and connect with others who care about building a stronger, more informed community. During this session, you'll explore what the brain health-- what brain health actually looks like in our community, [00:04:00] learn about modifiable risk factors and why early detection matters. Discover resources for continuing learning and support in action, gain tools to help yourself and loved ones with their brain health You're also invited to come celebrate with us at the B Street Bash, Microsoft's 20th anniversary in Quincy on May 28th.

Microsoft is hosting a huge community celebration with free food, a beer garden, live music, free desserts, games, and so much more. That's Thursday, May 28th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on B Street, Quincy, Washington. Come for fun, stay for the community. It's why we're all here. We posted several stories over the weekend to catch up on information for events going on around town and news stories as well. Now before we jump into upcoming Jack's sports and events, we're gonna cover city admin news, school news and announcements, and then we'll jump into Jack's sports and events happening today and tomorrow.

In city news, the city offices are closed in honor of Memorial Day, as well as the banks and several other businesses. So do realize that there will be several things closed around town today if you're out and about and looking for-- to take care of things. In school [00:08:00] news, there's no school today, so please don't try and send your kids to school or out to the bus stops.

No one's coming for them. There is no school. It is Memorial Day. Also, there is a school board meeting tomorrow at five thirty PM at the school district office. In Jack's sports and events, it looks like we don't have anything coming up today or tomorrow. But check back tomorrow, and we'll see what's coming later down this week Today we'll wrap up the show with a quote from President George H.

Bush. "We who are left must nurture the sacred memory of those who paid the ultimate price, and we must let their sacrifices give meaning and purpose to our nation's future." I told you at the beginning of the show we're gonna wrap this one up just a little bit different today. So I'm going to ask you to take just one minute of silence, one minute to think about those who have gone and laid [00:09:00] down their lives for this country.

I know you've got a busy day ahead of you, but will you spend one minute of quiet for all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and then we'll wrap the show out[00:10:00]

Thank you for spending one minute of silence. I know you've got a busy day today, and we get busy. It's hard to set aside these holidays that are so very important. But thank you for starting your day out by spending just a minute to honor those who have paid that ultimate sacrifice for our nation. It's a great way to start your busy day.
