Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Wednesday, May 27 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 98848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, schools, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.
Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for the day, and let's start with today's forecast Currently 58 here at the studio. Slightly cooler in George, slightly warmer along the river communities.
[00:01:00] Gonna be a warmer day for your hump day today. Mostly sunny with a high near 85. North winds 6 to 10 miles per hour. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 59. Light breezes. No sports recap for you today. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, it's National Grape Popsicle Day. I don't know what it is about fake grape flavoring.
I grew up in the era where Dimetapp was the answer for pretty much everything a kid got, and so I love synthetic grape flavoring. But that's just me. I was a Dimetapp kid. I had sinus issues, and so I took Dimetapp all the time. Now I still love grape soda and grape popsicles, so hey, National Grape Popsicle Day.
Super excited about that this morning. But if that doesn't do, do it for you, it's World Otter Day, and let's face it, they're cute. [00:02:00] You can pretend they're not, but they're cute. They just are. And it's National Flip-Flop Day. I've never liked flip-flops, but I know a lot of people wear them, so if that's your thing, hey, it's National Flip-Flop Day.
I'd say wear 'em to work, but of course, follow the footwear guidelines for wherever you work. I know some places you can't wear flip-flops to work. Uh, steel-toe boots come to mind. So, you know, probably don't wear them there. But after you get off work, throw on the flip-flops, get yourself a popsicle, and, you know, look at pictures of otters on your phone or something.
Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center has bridge at 12:30 PM, and for crafters, there's a chat and stitch at 1:00 PM. Tonight, there's also a movie and pizza at 6:00 PM, and lunch menus posted on the notes section of the walkmanquincywa.com website. Tonight, the city of George is hosting line dancing lessons for beginners offered on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the [00:03:00] George Community Hall for $10 each lesson.
Gather a group of friends and go have a great time learning something new. If you don't know line dancing or if you just like to line dance, go on down, have some fun, get out tonight, and do something different. Today is also $6 sushi roll at Eikens' new sushi department. Uh, that's been going good if you haven't tried it.
And hey, if you wanna expand Sushi Yaki... Sushi Yaki, sorry about that, is now open at its r- regular location, so there's always sushi over there, and I'm hearing great things about that food as well. You're invited to the official campaign launch of Shannon Durfee for the Grant County Commissioner Position Three.
That's happening today at the Jack's Banquet Room at the Quincy Public Market at 5:30 PM. There's light appetizers and drinks being served. Bring a friend, show your support, and help make an impact. If you don't know who Shannon Durfee is, this is a great chance to go and meet one [00:04:00] of our four candidates for Grant County Commissioner.
That's happening right here in town, and you certainly wanna get to know the candidates for this before you vote If you're looking for a reason to smile today because it is hump day, we have the dad joke you need. Why did the magazine company go out of business? They had too many issues
If you're looking for upcoming events, there's a lot coming up. List is getting pretty long these days. For you and the people you love, join us for an empowering community session on brain health and dementia awareness presented by the Latino Civic Alliance on Thursday, May 28th from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at the Quincy Public Library.

[00:05:00] During the session, you'll explore what brain health looks like, learn about modifiable risk factor- modifiable risk factors, and why early detection matters.
Discover resources for continued learning, support, and action. Gain tools to help yourself and your loved ones thrive. Come celebrate with us at the B Street Bash. Microsoft's 20th anniversary in Quincy, Washington is tomorrow, May 28th, and Microsoft is hosting a huge community celebration with free food, a beer garden, live music, free desserts, games, and so much more out at B Street.
I was reading about it. It sounds like the school's gonna be there performing some music as well. It's gonna be a really, really big night. Come join us down on B Street tomorrow night, May 28th, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. It's gonna be a really great night. It's gonna be a really great event. Quincy Valley Shuttle and Tours is booking round-trip shuttle seats for the Brandi Carlile concert weekend. Uh, I was looking at the ticket. She's got a lot of great performers with her this weekend on top of herself, of course. And there's only a few seats remaining for those shuttles, so reach out and talk to Quincy Valley Shuttle and Tours if you wanna head out and have an easy ride out there and back and not worry about parking out at the Gorge.
They're also booking round-trip tickets for excursions from the campgrounds if people are staying out in the campgrounds to local [00:07:00] attractions like the tasting, a bourbon tasting at Woodenville Whiskey and Jones Winery at the Quincy Public Market and more. So this is a great opportunity for people who are out camping to come back into the community and connect with some of the amazing things we have going on here in our area.
In community highlights and safety announcements, from the Gorge Amphitheatre, please plan for congestion on I-90 East on Thursday, Friday and Saturday due to construction on the Vanish Bridge and concert traffic. Traffic could back up up to four hours during peak times, so please adjust your departure time if you're heading this way across I- I-90.
Locally, that means heavy traffic on Baseline and Silica Road will be backed up. The Gorge has said it will open additional screening lanes to accommodate camping guests arriving at the same time and will add even more screening lanes to both the campground and the venue to help alleviate [00:08:00] traffic so we have less of a problem than we did for the last concert series.
But do be aware, it's going to be a big concert weekend. Traffic will start coming in on Thursday, and Baseline and Silica are going to back up. Per the Grant County Fire District 3, burn restrictions begin June 1st. That's burn restrictions begin June 1st for the area. If you're planning to burn yard debris or conduct outdoor burning, this is the week to get it done before seasonal burn restrictions take effect.
Please burn safely, keep water and tools nearby, and never, ever leave a fire unattended. For complete burn restrictions information, permitted burning guidelines and updates, visit gcfd3.net. That's gcfd3.net. Before we jump into upcoming Jack sports and events, we're gonna cover city admin news, school news and announcements, and then [00:09:00] cover Quincy Jack sports and events happening today and tomorrow There's not a lot in the way of city news.
I was at the Quincy Valley Regional Parks District board meeting last night, and will let you guys have an update as soon as I've got it written up. I'll write that up just as soon as the presentation gets sent over, uh, from the good people over at the city. They're nice enough to share that with us so that we can share that with you.
So I'll get that out to you in the next couple days as soon as I get a copy of that. In school news, and there is a lot, Quincy Middle School is holding their final music concert of the year tonight at se- 7:00 PM.
