Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Thursday, May 28 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Thursday, May 28th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, schools, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.

Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for the day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently sixty-four here at the studio. Slightly cooler in George.

Slightly warmer along the river communities as usual. It's [00:01:00] gonna be a hot one today with a high in the low nineties. Increasing clouds with calm wind becoming north around six miles an hour, which we all know is almost non-existent here. I hope all the tow trucks are in good shape today for the concert traffic.

I can guarantee there's gonna be some Coasties coming over who are not prepared, and they're gonna sit there with their ACs on and overheat their cars along the I-90 traffic issues. Uh, I'm also a little worried that EMS is gonna have a really busy day for the same reason, so I hope you guys are in fine form and ready to go.

This afternoon's gonna get really busy with the delays on I-90 and sitting in traffic. Tonight, showers and thunderstorms before 11:00 PM, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11:00 PM and 2:00 AM, then a slight chance of showers after 2:00 AM. [00:02:00] Some of the storms could be severe. Low around fifty-nine with northwest winds five to fifteen miles per hour.

Becoming southwest in the evening. Winds could gust as high as twenty-four. Chance of precipitation is eighty. Basically, summer has shown us she's here and unpredictable, so do pay attention. There's definitely gonna be some weather to be aware of today. Uh, make sure and drink lots of water. Stay hydrated today with the temperatures going up to the nineties.

We all know what that's like if you live out here, but we're gonna have some visitors in town who do not. So make sure you're staying hydrated, so EMS, when they're busy with all the Coasties, isn't having to worry about you. No sports to recap today. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is not only National Brisket Day, which is pretty stinking awesome on its own, it's also [00:03:00] National and International Burger Day.

Can anyone say barbecue? Like, seriously, time to fire up the grill. Like, this is the day for it. Apparently, someone planned this out well. Uh, so fire up that grill today and, uh, enjoy some brisket and some burgers. Like, yeah, I'm a meat guy, so this is a good day. Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center has an exercise class at 1:00 PM, Pinochle at 3:00 PM, and they also play Mexican Train at 6:30 PM after dinner.

There's a special event tonight at the senior center. It's Golden Prom happening from 4:30 to 5:30 PM

The Quincy Rotary Club will be meeting at 12:10 today at Jack's Restaurant at Quincy Market. Riverside Store and Restaurant down in Sunland Estates is hosting trivia night at 6:00 PM. [00:04:00] And the library has a special event going on. For you and the people you love, join us for an empowering community session on brain health and dementia awareness presented by the Latino Civic Alliance today from 4:00 to 5:30 PM at the Quincy Public Library.

It's never too early or too late to take steps to support a healthier brain. Come learn, reflect, and connect with others who care about building a stronger, more informed community. During this session, you'll explore what brain health looks like in our communities, learn about modifiable risk factors and why early detection matters, discover resources for continuing learning and support and action, and gain tools to help yourself and your loved ones thrive.

You're also invited tonight to come celebrate with us at the B Street Bash. It's Microsoft's twentieth anniversary in Quincy, Washington today. Microsoft is hosting a huge community celebration with free food, a beer garden, live music, free desserts, games, [00:05:00] giveaways, and so much more. It's gonna be a good night.

Uh, honestly, the construction of Microsoft is what brought me here almost twenty years ago, and has been a huge part of my wife and I's life. We were both working at the data center when my oldest daughter was born in different capacities, and so Microsoft has been part of our lives and our stories here and our community our entire lives here, and I think that's been pretty standard for a lot of us in the last twenty years.

They've got a lot of things going on tonight. It's gonna be a big event down on B Street. It's gonna be a whole lot of fun. Come out tonight from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM out to B Street. Come for the fun, stay for the community

It's Thursday. The week is going by, but we gotta have that reason to smile in the mornings because let's face it, starting your day with a smile and a slight chuckle makes the day a whole lot [00:06:00] better. So here's your daily dad joke. Out of all the inventions in the last 100 years, the dry erase board has to be the most remarkable

In upcoming events, the She's Strong Run Club is back for an evening run walk on May 29th at 7:00 PM. Grab your girls and come and get some miles in with us. Run leader Jenny Sandoval, good vibes, music by DJ Mazzy, apparently she's pretty great, and drinks available for purchase by WIP. Enjoy some cardio therapy, get some miles in with your friends, and have an amazing night.

Register now for the Junior Jacks Bas- Basketball Kids Camp for pre-K and third to third grade on June 15th and 16th at Ancient Links Elementary. Price for the camp is $40. Your kids will have the opportunity to participate in fun skill-building basketball activities and [00:07:00] games. Make sure your kid brings water bottles...

A water bottle, sorry, wears athletic clothing and sneakers. Bring a basketball if you have one. To register, go to quincyyouthbasketball.com. Quincy Valley Shuttle and Tours is booking round-trip shuttle seats for the Brandi Carlile concert this weekend. Only a few seats are remaining. Uh, there's a lot of great performers at the Gr- Brandi Carlile weekend.

I thought it was just her, but I was looking at the show schedule and she's got some great friends coming along for the event. They also are booking round-trip tickets for excursions from the campground into the local attractions, like tasting at the Woodinville Whiskey and Jones Winery at the Quincy Public Market, and stops off to fuel up on that water, 'cause people are gonna need it, at Aikens as well, and a few other things.

So reach out to Quincy Valley Shuttle and Tours if you're looking for that safe ride out to the Gorge this weekend for the concert. Have [00:08:00] fun. Don't sit in traffic by yourself. Hey, go ride the shuttle. They get preferential treatment anyways

In safety announcements, the Gorge Amphitheatre reminds everybody heading from the west side to plan ahead for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday due to construction on the Vanish Bridge. Traffic could back up up to four hours during peak time, so be sure to adjust your department departure times for that.

More meaningfully, that would be meaning traffic on Baseline and Silica roads will be backed up as well. The Gorge has said it will open up additional screening lanes to accommodate camping guests arriving at the same time. They'll also add more screening lanes to both the campground and the venue to help alleviate traffic.

The Gorge is doing everything they can to alleviate the traffic issues so we don't have a repeat, repeat of weekend before last. Um, [00:09:00] they are updating their plans. They did not expect that traffic two weeks ago, and so they have made some adjustments and hope to make this weekend go a whole lot smoother with the adjustments they made for their parking and traffic issues out there.

But just be aware there are probably gonna be some delays. It is the first night for the campground to open for the big weekend, and it's gonna be a big event this weekend. For the Grant County Fire District, burn restrictions begin June 1st, so if you're planning to burn yard debris or conduct outdoor burning, this is the week to get it done before the seasonal burn restrictions take effect.

If you are burning, please burn safely. Keep water and tools nearby at all times. Never leave a fire unattended. For complete burn restrictions and information, permitted burning guidelines, and updates, visit gcfd3.net. That's gcfd3.net. [00:10:00] Use some common sense and some good practices. Let's make sure that doesn't turn into anything more than getting rid of some waste in your yard.

Before we jump into upcoming Jack Sports and events, we're gonna cover city admin news, school news, and announcements, and then we'll jump into Jack Sports and events happening today and tomorrow. From the city offices, Quincy Recreation Department would like everyone to know that summer day camp registrations are open.

Sign up your kiddo for lots of summer fun, field trips, swimming, games, crafts, library time, and other fun they can schedule for the kids. Camp hours will be from eight AM to five PM, with a drop-off starting at seven thirty AM and pick-up ending at five thirty PM each weekday. This camp is for kids ages five to 12 years old.

For more information, please contact the rec department at 509-787-3523, extension five In school [00:11:00] news, the middle school has its sixth grade move-up parent night tonight. So if your kids are moving up, hopefully you've got that information. Uh, go check out the event this evening

No update on, uh, the state meet right now, so we'll move to the quote of the day to wrap us out. From Robert Balt- Ralph, "Take the time to enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were actually the big things." That's your local update for today.
