Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Tuesday, June 9 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Tuesday, June 9th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, schools, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.

Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into that day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for the day, and let's start with today's forecast Currently 52, a little cooler towards George. A little light rain this morning.

Today, a significant chance of light showers throughout the morning before 11:00 AM. [00:01:00] Nothing real heavy, just on and off. Cloudy throughout mid-morning, then gradually clearing up with a high near 68. Windy with a west wind, 10 to 15 miles per hour, increasing to 20 to 26 miles per hour in the afternoon, with wind gusts as high as up to 40 miles per hour.

Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 45, with some wind and big gusts possible in the evening. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is National Donald Duck Day. I thought I'd do something really clever, like do a good Donald Duck impersonation, but honestly, it's 4:30 in the morning and I am not capable of Donald Duck impersonation.

So, you know, dig out those old Donald Duck cartoons. The one, you know, the ones we grew up with where Donald Duck couldn't say anything clearly and we all laughed. You know, good cartoons before today's cartoons. And if you're looking for something else, it's National Str- Strawberry Rhubarb Pie today. I've never had strawberry rhubarb pie, [00:02:00] but if you know where I could get a good slice of strawberry rhubarb pie, be sure and drop that in the comments and let us know.

Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center has an exercise class at 1:00 PM, and they play Mexican Train at 6:30 PM after dinner. As always, the menu will be over on the welcometoquincywa.com website in the notes section. Highlighting one of our community resources, the Quincy Community Food Bank is open today from 9:30 to 12:00 PM and again from 4:30 to 6:00 PM to help out the community.

The food bank's located at 210 First Avenue Southeast in Quincy, and can be reached at 509-787-4963, or at quincyfoodbank@gmail.com. The food bank also welcomes volunteers, so feel free to reach out and see how you can be of service. And hey, follow up on that story we ran a couple months ago about the food bank.

The new building is being framed in right now, so be sure and swing by, uh, probably when they're not [00:03:00] serving the community on one of the off days, and check out the new construction as they work on their new warehouse space so they can expand their operations. She's Strong Studio has Zumba classes on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM for its members.

Quincy Valley Shuttle Tours invites locals to join us today for Taco Tuesday tasting tour. There are 13 different taco places in Quincy, Washington. I got that wrong yesterday. And they're gonna take bites at three restaurants at a time and find what's the best taco in Quincy. Each second Tuesday of the month from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, they're gonna drive to three different location.

Bring your questions, bring your neighbors, and be part of the conversation. In safety news, the Grant County Fire Marshal has posted it's been one week since the annual burn ban has gone into effect officially. In that [00:09:00] time, there have been 50 brush, grass, wildland fires in Grant County. 50. That's an average of six per day.

Recently, they had an individual who was grinding metal start one, he put it out, and he went back to grinding and started another one, which then rapidly spread. That earned a citation for reckless burning, which is a gross misdemeanor and punishable by up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine. This is not them messing around.

Our firefighters are already tired. Please just stop. It's really dry. Our firefighters are already exhausted, and they're up to eight citations on the burn ban counter already. Fire season's gonna be a rough one this year. Please think twice, be observant, be safe as you go through your day, and pay attention to what's going on.

Help our firefighters out. That's just a ridiculous amount of calls in a single day every day already. [00:10:00] Please be safe as we go into fire season Did you know that you can access welcomeToQuincyWA.com right on your phone? Now let's move into city admin news, school announcements, and a handful of summer opportunities from camps to recreation programs that are beginning to take shape around the 9848. Tonight there's a Quincy Valley Regional Parks District meeting at 5:00 PM at the Quincy City Hall. The city of Quincy is also asking residents to voluntarily adhere to a watering schedule they posted as Washington heads into its fourth year, I think, its third or fourth year of drought.[00:11:00]

It's been posted over on the city site, but essentially it's no watering between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Even addresses can water their lawns on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, odds on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with no watering on Mondays. Watering schedule does not apply to newly planted landscapes or vegetable gardens.

The city is asking for people to follow this on a voluntary basis, uh, as we head into a year with water being a little tighter before anybody has to actually ratchet it down and make this an official, "Oh, we have to do this." They're asking for you just to do it anyway, so they don't have to pass any silly ordinances just to take care of things.

The city council voted to offer a cash reward to individuals providing critical and credible evidence leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for graffiti tagging that's plaguing our fair town. The reward is $1,000 and you contact the Quincy Police Department [00:12:00] to share information. In school news, today is field day at George Elementary.

Today is also eighth grade promotion at Quincy Middle School. At Pi- Pioneer Elementary, they're having fifth grade promotion ceremony at 1:30 PM, and tonight there's a school board meeting at Ancient Lakes Elementary from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Also, don't forget tomorrow is early release and the last day of school, which brings us to the official countdown

There's only one more day of school until summer break. Yep, we're there. We'll wrap up today with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. "The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be." That's your local update for today.
