Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Wednesday, June 10 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Today is Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.
Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door, or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Warning. Warning
Before we go all the way down the rabbit hole, I wanted to remind everybody up front, today is the last day of school, so if you're getting your kids ready to go out the door, it's the last day [00:01:00] before summer break, and it is a half day. Most schools will dismiss around 11:30. So please make sure you are picking up your kids, are, are aware they're coming home early.
And also, for all of us who don't have kids that are getting out at 11:30, please be aware as you're out for lunch or whatever your work day takes you through, the school buses will, will be rolling, the kids will be walking, and it's gonna get real busy around lunchtime, so just take a moment and be a little more aware when you're driving, and let's make sure all the kids head home safe today as they start summer break.
Now, grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with the forecast. Strange day here in the basin. Starting out kind of chilly this morning for, especially for, uh, June. It's about 45 here at the studio. Slightly warmer in George and the river communities. But a strange [00:02:00] day indeed as June is in the middle, or maybe not quite in the middle, and it's feeling kinda cold.
In fact, the feels like temperature is dropping us closer to 39 or 40 this morning. Five different sources don't agree on any of it. They do agree the pollen count is really high for grass pollen today. But the simple is, it's feeling downright chilly this morning, so if you're heading out early, whether you're getting the kids ready for school for that last time, and if they're walking to school or heading to school early this morning, or whether your day is starting pretty early, it's a little chilly this morning, so you might wanna layer.
Grab that sweatshirt and put on that extra layer 'cause the morning's not gonna be real fun if you're gonna be outside. The rest of the day is supposed to be sunny with a high near 71. Pretty, pretty solid weather for June. Breezy with a northwest wind 10 to 10, 10 to 18 miles per hour. [00:03:00] And tonight is mostly clear with a low back down around 45.
Like I said, the low is a little, little chilly for June. Today is National Iced Tea Day, if you're looking for a reason to celebrate. We're an iced tea household, so I know what I'm doing today. It's also National Egg Roll Day. And did you know that a black cow is a nickname for a root beer float? Yep, it's also National Black Cow Day.
I had no idea until I looked this up on those silly little calendars about reasons to celebrate. But they called a root beer float a black c- black cow. But you know what? I'm thinking we're having Black Cows for dessert tonight 'cause that just sounds really good. I miss- does anybody else miss A&W? Like, I know there are a few still in existence, but does anybody else miss old A&Ws, like the old school, original restaurant [00:04:00] and their amazing root beer floats?
Man, I do. They, they had the best Black Cows. So whether you're drinking some iced tea all day, 'cause that's our household, or finding some great egg rolls, and if you find good egg rolls be sure and let me know where you got those, 'cause I love a good egg roll. Or you're having Black Cows for dessert, there's a lot of reasons to celebrate today, and let's dive into what's going on around town.
Today at the Quincy Senior Center there's bridge at 12:30 PM. For crafters there's the Chat & Stitch today at 1:00 PM. After 108 episodes I can actually say that without messing it up every time and having to re-record it. I'm very proud about that fact. And the lunch menu is posted on the notes section of the welcome2quincywad.com website, as always.
Tonight the City of George is hosting line dancing for beginners, offered at Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 at the George Community Hall for $10 per lesson. Gather a group of friends, have a great time learning something new. [00:05:00] Hey, what else are you gonna do on a Wednesday? Go kick up your heels, have a little fun.
Anybody can learn to line dance. I've done line dancing before. I promise if I can do it with my uncoordinated feet, anybody can learn to line dance. You're gonna have a good time. Take some friends with you. It's a great way to laugh and do something different. Today is $6 sushi rolls at Akin's. And whether you're trying out the sushi at Akin's, grabbing a slice at Monkey Around Pizza, or getting teriyaki at Sushiyaki, maybe that's grabbing a bite down at the Riverside Restaurant and Store or something out in George, they have the Scale House out there is amazing.
We have a lot of great food in our area. So skip the cleanup tonight, head out to one of our fine local dining establishments, the 984 has a lot of great options, and go out and try something new. Or eat something you [00:06:00] already love, but let's support 9848 restaurants. Well, you've gotten all the way to hump day and hopefully you've done it with a smile on your face every morning with our daily dad joke, but this one is bound to put a smile on everybody's face.
My wife was really proud of this one when she found it. What is the best way to catch a fish? Ask someone to throw it to you
