Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Monday, June 15 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Monday, June 15th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Summit Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 98848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.

Whether you're heading to work or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 61 here at the studio, a little cooler in George, slightly warmer in the river communities.

Heat advisory in effect today with a high between 96 and 98 today. Partly sunny with a [00:01:00] hot, stagnant wind. Negligible breeze later in the afternoon, but just it's, it's that nice, hot, stagnant summer air coming in today. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 66. Breezy with a northwest wind 13 to 21 miles an hour later in the evening, with gusts as high as 31.

It's gonna be a warm one, ladies and gentlemen. Make sure you are hydrating. A huge congratulations to the 12U girls fast pitch softball team for winning the Columbia Basin Championship this last weekend. Go Jacks.

If you're looking for a reason to celebrate today, today is National Smile Power Day, National Photography Day, and National Megalodon Day. So give everyone around you a nice big smile today because you don't have to contend with a giant shark when you're out photographing nature. Today Around Town is brought to you by the Quincy [00:02:00] Partnership for Youth, helping connect peop- young people, families, and community partners to create healthier, stronger futures throughout the 9848.

Today, the Quincy Senior Center hosts a coffee hour at 10:00 AM, line dancing at 1:00 PM, and they also host bridge on Mondays at 2:15 PM. And as always, the menu will be over on welcome2quincywa.com in the notes section. We're starting the week a little bit slower after a big weekend, but there's still plenty to do around town.

The summer library program has begun. Summer is here, and they have a season full of reading, creativity, fun, and more at the Quincy Public Library. Stop by the library to sign up or join anytime, and jump into summer activities, challenges, and prizes that are sure to make the summer a little bit better.

ABT Fitness is starting their summer Youth Fundamentals program. Athletes gain better speed and quickness, balance and coordination, competitiveness, strength and endurance, teamwork development, and more. Athletic [00:03:00] Breakview is creating better athletes one day at a time with real programs and results. If you're interested in signing your youth up, you can connect with them via email on their social media page, or call 509-989-7340.

They have a 12-math athlete max, and this is for young athletes. If they have a high enough volume registration, they'll look at adding a second timeframe, but this is for our younger kids to help devel- develop their athletic prowess and help them as they move into sports The Junior Jacks Baseball Kids Camp for pre-K through third grade starts today.

It's today and tomorrow at Ancient Lakes Elementary at $40 a person- kid. Session one is pre-K and kindergarten, and that's 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Session two is first, second, and third grade. That's 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM. Your kids will have the opportunity to parti- participate in fun, skill-building basketball activities and games.

Make sure your child brings [00:04:00] water bottle, wears athletic clothing and sneakers. Bring a basketball if you have one. I'm not positive if you can still register for this. If you have not, then go to quincyyouthbasketball.com and find out if your kid is not registered and you want them to be, see if they still have spaces available.

But do it fast this morning and get those kids hopping on their basketball skill journey. It is Monday. I know it's a little harder for some people, so here's a dad joke to put a smile on your face to make sure we start right, because, hey, we don't have to worry about the megalodons, but still sometimes you need a little more reason to smile than that, I guess.

What invention allows us to see through walls? Windows

And upcoming events. Tomorrow afternoon, the Quincy Partnership for Youth will be out in front of Akins from 3:00 to 5:30 PM asking everyone to [00:05:00] complete their five to seven-minute community survey to help guide future prevention programs and projects here in the 9848. Fill out the survey and help them reach their goal of 180 surveys.

You could also win an adult bike or a youth bike. They've got bike- two bikes to give away that have been generously donated, uh, by Microsoft to help as they try and get this feat done. This is a requirement from one of the groups that they work with, and so we'll be out tomorrow, 3:00 to 5:30 PM. That's right, I'm gonna join them out there, and we're asking you to help them meet that 180-survey goal or more so they can create the best programs and projects possible to help the families here in the 9848.

Craft afternoon for kids is back for summer fun Young artists, creators, get ready to make something amazing. Join us on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 PM [00:06:00] starting June 16th through August 11th for hands-on creativity. Each week features a brand-new craft, and all supplies are provided. Kids can create and explore their im- with their imaginations in a welcoming and safe space.

Crafts are geared towards school-aged kids, but younger children are welcome too. They just may need a little extra help from their grown-ups. Space is limited, so be sure and come early and grab your spot, and let's get everybody crafting together. Another great program brought to you by our library here in town.

Everyone's been waiting. Here is your sneak peek. There's an open house at the Quincy Aquatic Center Wednesday the 17th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. There's no swimming, but you can come check things out, purchase your season pass, ask questions about swim lessons, and check out the facility rules, and g- get familiar with the facility.

There's free ice cream provided by WaFd Bank. Come and join the evening. Come early, and then head over [00:07:00] and come to the 2026 Grant County Commissioners District 3 candidate forum, also Wednesday June 17th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the Port of Quincy Business & Event Center. This is your opportunity to hear directly from the candidates, learn where they stand on issues, and ask questions that matter to our communities.

The event features both moderator-led questions and live audience participation. This forum is presented by Welcome to Quincy WA News in partnership with the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce, made possible through the support of the Port of Quincy. If you can't attend in person, we'll be live streaming the entire forum on Good Morning Quincy, Washington Newscast YouTube channel.

But that said, if you can make it in person, we encourage you to do so. There's something valuable about being in the room and hearing the candidate firsthand and participating in the conversation that's helped shape the community. Bring your questions, bring your neighbors, and be part of the conversation.

And hey, a big shout-out and thank you. Yes, I did in fact screw this up this weekend. I made a nice video, [00:08:00] uh, 10 reasons why you should attend this event. I totally got the dates wrong when I was writing the script. Somehow my autocorrect moved me from June to September. The dates are June 17th, that would be this Wednesday, not September 17th.

But thank you for everybody who caught that. Uh, please join us this Wednesday. It's gonna be an important event for you to get to know these people who have a huge effect on how things go here in Grant County.
