Today is Tuesday, June 16th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sutherland Estates, and all of the 9848. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, local business news.

Whether you're heading to work or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently seventy here in the studio, starting a little warmer than it has been. A little cooler in George, but overall it's a nice warm morning.

[00:01:00] Today, patchy blowing dust after two PM, mostly sunny with a high near eighty-five. Windy with a northwest wind twenty to twenty-five miles per hour, increasing to twenty-seven to thirty-two miles per hour in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as forty-five miles an hour. It's gonna be a windy afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.

We're currently under a wind advisory for the afternoon, and more importantly, we're under a red flag warning. Conditions are ideal for spreading wildfires rapidly. Please be very mindful and aware of your actions today. Make sure any tow chains or hitches are firmly secure and not swinging. Make sure that if you're doing any kind of work outside that could spark anything, that you've taken care of the area and wetted it down, and make sure that you have done everything you can to make sure you don't accidentally start a fire.

Uh, today is a really bad day for it. Tonight, patchy blowing dust before eight [00:02:00] PM, mostly clear with a low around fifty-six. Very windy with a northwest wind of thirty-one to thirty-six miles per hour, decreasing slowly after midnight, but winds could gust as high as forty-nine before then. So we're definitely gonna get some wind let-- wind today, ladies and gentlemen.

Uh, so be very, very careful today. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is National Fudge Day, so celebrate today by making your favorite type of fudge and enjoy. I know we don't normally think of fudge in the summer. We generally think of it as a winter food, but I'm thinking it sounds pretty tasty about now, and, uh, it's something out of the norm for today.

So make some fudge. Why not? Treat yourself, have a little fun, have a little indulgence, and, uh, celebrate National Fudge Day today. Quincy Partnership for Youth will be out front of Aitken's today from 3:00 to 5:30 PM asking everyone to complete their five to seven-minute survey that helps guide the [00:04:00] future prevention programs and projects that they provide in our community. Fill out the survey if you can and support Quincy Partnership for Youth.

You could also win a youth bike or an adult bike. They have one of each to give away, uh, to thank you for taking the time to fill out the survey courtesy of Microsoft. So thank you Microsoft for supporting Quincy Partnership for Youth in that way as they work on building the best programs to support our community.

They really do a lot in the area, and they're required with their connections with the state to do this survey every year. And so let's try and help them get it done pretty quickly. They can meet their state requirements, you get a chance at a bike, and it helps our community. What a great connection, right?

Crafternoon for Kids is back for summer, summer fun. So we're calling out all young artists and creators. Get ready to make something amazing. Join us on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 PM starting June 16th, that's today, [00:05:00] through August 11th for hands-on creativity on Tuesdays. Each week features a brand-new craft with all the supplies provided.

Kids can create and explore their- with their imaginations in a welcoming and safe space. Crafts are geared towards school-aged kids, but younger kids are welcome too. They may just need a little extra help from their grown-ups. So be sure and come do this with your kids. Space is limited. Be sure and come early and grab your spot, and let's get crafty together for summer over at the library for Crafternoon for Kids.

She Strong Studio has Zumba classes on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM for its members. So if you're a member of She Strong Studio, maybe check out a Zumba class if you've never done it before. I've never done it. My wife said it's pretty cool though. So I generally trust her. Put a smile on that face as we head into your Tuesday.

There's an open house at the new aquatic center tomorrow, June 17th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. I got a sneak peek at it yesterday. We wrote up an article over on welcomeToQuincyWA.com.

That's coming tomorrow, June 17th, from 5:30 [00:07:00] to 7:30 PM at the Port of Quincy Business and Events Center. This is your opportunity to hear directly from the candidates, learn where they stand on issues, and ask questions that matter to our communities.

The event will feature both moderated le- le- led, moderator-led questions and live audience participation. But honestly, as the moderator, I am leaning towards your questions. So if enough people ask questions, I'm just gonna let you guys ask questions. This is your chance to talk to our candidates for county commissioner, and these people have a lot of say and a lot of impact on Grant County.

The first session will be on back pain management on June 18th from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Van Dykes Conference Room at QVMC.

Come join the fun and show off your bike. All riders are welcome. Sunland Estates is hosting a benefit for the Burned Children Recovery Foundation at Sunland Estates Park on Friday June 19th. Music starts at 7:00 PM featuring '80s dance and rock hits with DJ Roman Har- Havens, a laser light show. They're gonna have house and EDM dance party music.

On Saturday June 20th, they'll also be hosting a golf tournament, silent auctions at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and a [00:10:00] live auction from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. Music from Hell on Heels, Northwest premier country rock band. So come out, enjoy some live music, auctions, golf, fun for a great cause. Chris Daniels Winery is hosting a Father's Day Saturday pop-up event on June 20th from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM with local artists, live music from the Walker Brothers, and Riverside Dogs from Sunland Estates will be there as well.

Attention local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. The Grant County Economic Development Council and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce are coming together to host a free small business resources and requirements workshop on Wednesday June 24th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, with the doors opening at 8:30 AM at Skill Source in Moses Lake.

Representatives from state agencies and local organizations, including SBDC, Department of Revenue, Labor & Industries, Department of Commerce, and many more will be there to answer your questions and connect you with free [00:11:00] resources to help you plan, start, and grow your business. You're also invited on Saturday June 27th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at 1105 Northeast Columbia Way in Quincy to join and celebrate the grand opening of Garage Life, one of our newest businesses in Quincy. They're excited to announce the opening of Quincy's new luxury storage facility for RVs, boats, and vehicles.

Come be a part of the ribbon cutting. They hope to see you there In church events, here's your summer VBS schedule as we've seen it so far. Faith Community Church VBS is June 22nd through June 25th from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. St. Paul Lutheran Church's VBS is July 6th through July 10th, 9:00 AM through 12:00 PM.

First Baptist Church VBS is July 6th through July 10th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Ooh, you can double-dip there. And Quincy Free Methodist Church [00:12:00] VBS is July 13th through July 17th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. In safety announcements and community highlights, the Grant County Fire Marshal reminds you that annual burn event ban has gone into effect.

Reckless burning is a gross mi- misdemeanor and is punishable by a year in jail or up to a $5,000 fine, and there are other charges that are possible as well. It's a really dry fire season, already well underway. We're currently under red flag warnings with wind advisories, making fires not only more likely, but more dangerous and more likely to grow and spread quickly.

So please, please, please be responsible. Follow all the applicable laws. You can find them over at gcfd.org.

I think that's correct. I didn't have that written down in front of me, so you might have to double-check that, but I'm pretty sure that's Grant County's Fire District. Check it out, make sure that you are [00:13:00] following all the appropriate rules, and let's be safe this fire season. Uh, it's gonna be a long one.

Quincy Animal Shelter reminds you to adopt, don't shop. They're open on Mondays through Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and they have a lot of great animals that are looking for their forever families. My dog came from the shelter and has been a valuable part of our family for years. She brings a lot of joy and smiles in our house every single day, and life with her has been amazing, and she was just a puppy when I managed to scoop her up over at the shelter.

Uh, it was love at first sight. Honestly, I picked her up and fell in love and called my wife and told her I was bringing home a dog that day. [00:15:00] So head over to the shelter, find your forever friend, and also check their Facebook page, and let's get some of our wandering animals back to their families as soon as possible.
