Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Thursday, June 18 2026

Speaker: [00:00:00] Good Morning, Quincy. Today is Thursday, June 18th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, schools, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.

Whether you're heading to work or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 60 here at the studio. Today is sunny with a high near 86, north wind eight to 13 miles per hour, becoming light and variable in the afternoon.

Tonight, partly cloudy with a low around 60 and calm winds. Pretty nice day out here in [00:01:00] the basin. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is International Picnic Day. It's International Sushi Day and National Cherry Tart Day. So grab your favorite people, go for a beautiful picnic today on this beautiful basin day that we're gonna have.

Take some sushi, take a cherry tart, and enjoy a lovely summer day. Whether you head to one of our beautiful parks in the area or out to one of the wilderness areas like Quincy Lakes, go enjoy a nice picnic with some people you love and have a great day today. Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center has an exercise class today at 1:00 PM, Pinochle at 3:00 PM, and they also play Mexican Train at 6:30 PM after dinner.

The dinner menu will be posted in the notes section of the Welcome to Quincy Waa website as always. The Quincy Rotary Club will be meeting today at Jack's just outside of-- or just inside of the market at 1210, uh, for Rotary. Quincy Valley Medical Center is excited to offer the [00:02:00] QBMC Health and Wellness series, a new community education program designed to bring practical, easy-to-understand health information directly to the people of the nine eight four eight.

These free sessions will cover real-life health topics that affect many of us every day, from back pain and diabetes to heart health, women's health, injury prevention, and more. The first session will be today on back pain management at five thirty to seven PM at the Van Dyke Conference Room at QBMC.

That's up on the second floor. Go on in through the lobby, take the elevator to the second floor, and it's right there when you get off the elevator. This topic will be presented by Amanda Violet at DPT. She's DPT. Don't know what that actually means, but I assume that means she actually knows what she's talking about as opposed to me.

So go see what she has to say. Whether you're dealing with chronic pain, looking to stay healthier, or simply wanna learn more about your health, the series is for you. It's free to attend, it's open to the community, and questions are encouraged. At Quincy Valley Medical Center, they believe healthcare goes [00:03:00] beyond appoint-- beyond appointments and hospital walls.

It starts with education, prevention, and community connection. They hope to see you there. Tonight is business after hours for the Quincy Valley Chamber of Commerce out at Twen- Trinity Gardens Lavender Farm, and it's gonna be a beautiful night out there for it. If you're looking for a ride and don't wanna drive your car out there, hey, we got a great option.

The ladies over at Quincy Valley Shuttle are offering to drive members who wanna go out there for free. So you can park your har- car over by the chamber, connect with Heather or Sheriana, and tell them you want a ride, and then you can have a great evening out at the event without having to worry about driving back and forth.

It's Thursday, which is generally an unremarkable day, right? It's that weird day caught between hump day and, and Friday that we're all excited for. So let's start the day off right, 'cause I know I could use a smile this morning. I'm feeling a little tired. Here's your daily dad joke. Can a frog jump [00:04:00] higher than a house?

Of course, a house can't jump

In upcoming events, Monkey Around Pizza is hosting a bike night on Friday June 19th from 5:30 to 9:00 PM. All are welcome to bring their motorcycles and show them off, enjoy some great pizza and burgers, and come join the fun. Show off your bike. All riders are welcome. As a heads-up notice that tomorrow morning we'll let you know about several US World Cup watch parties in Quincy and Creston Bar.

Details are coming tomorrow. There's only three days left until our second farmer's market of the season. The first market didn't just fly by, it literally tried to take off at one point. If you were there when the wind hit, you know exactly what I meant. But even with the gusts, people showed up. It was a great day.

The people had great attitudes, the big smiles. It was a great community event with a lot of spirit, and they can't wait to do it again this Saturday. There [00:05:00] will be live entertainment, local makers, handmade goods, friendly faces, all with the small charm town you expect from a local market. Bring your friends, bring your dance moves, and let's make market two even better and hopefully a little less airborne this Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM out at Losure Park.

Sunland Estates is hosting a benefit for the Burned Children Recovery Foundation at Sunland Estates Park on Friday June 19th. Music starts at 7:00 PM featuring '80s dance rocking hits with DJ Roman Havens, a laser light show, house and EDM dance party, and then the party continues on Saturday June 20th with a golf tournament, a silent auction from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and a live auction from 7:30 to 8:30 PM, as well as music from Hell on Heels, Northwest premier country rock band.

So come out, enjoy some live music, auctions, golf, all for a great cause. Sunland Estates knows how to throw a party. It's gonna be an amazing weekend. [00:06:00] Chris Daniels Winery is hosting a Father's Day pop-up this Saturday June 20th from 12 to 4:00 PM with local artists, live music from the Local Brothers, and Riverside Dogs from Sunland Estates for some great snacks Ben and Carol Brian, the founders of the Gortam Theater, as they sh- are inviting people to share as they join their next visionary chapter, The Hilltop, a new cultural destination above the Columbia on Tuesday, June 23rd at 6:30 PM on the upper floor of the KB Estate Winery for an introduction to the vision for a mission-driven nonprofit, the future campus, and the upcoming SOAR Festival, launching this bold new era of arts, culture, and community in the 9848.

Members and potential stakeholders are welcome to attend In upcoming church events, here's your current 2026 summer VBS schedule. Faith Community Church VBS starts June [00:07:00] 22nd to June 25th, that's next week, from 6 PM to 8:30 PM each night. St. Paul Lutheran Church VBS is July 6th to July 10th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

And First Baptist Church's VBS is from July 6th through July 10th from 6 PM to 8 PM. And then Quincy Free Methodist has one July 13th through July 17th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM each evening. In community highlights, thanks to everyone who came out to the Grant County Commissioner's Forum for District 3 last night at the Port of Quincy Event Center, and made it a huge success by pr- participating.

It was a attendee-led question and answer with our four candidates for the Grant County Commissioner position district for District 3. We did have some technical difficulties with the streaming. Three-plus hours of troubleshooting on that. We thought we had saved it with a standalone recording to post later today, and I found out this morning that while we did catch the [00:08:00] video, there was no sound whatsoever on the recording, so the technical problems continued apparently.

My most sincere apologies. We're not gonna be able to share the event as we had planned. It was supposed to go to our YouTube page, but there was absolutely no audio on the backup recording whatsoever. Last night was just a comedy of technical errors, unfortunately. The rest of the event was spectacular.

A special thank you to the Port of Quincy for hosting the event, to Veterans Operation Creation for letting us use their sound system to ex- improve the experience for everybody. We had a much better event audio-wise with Veterans Operation Creation letting us use their sound system, and Andy Coyle running the sound.

And thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for partnering with us to make the event possible, and a huge shout-out to my daughters who spent their entire afternoon yesterday helping me set up the whole event and [00:09:00] working really hard, so thank you to my girls Of course, a big thank you to our sponsors over at Windermere Real Estate Central Basin and our RNCG group who make this all possible.

Without them, we couldn't do any of this. If you're buying or selling a home around the Central Basin or need property management, Deb and her team at Windermere Real Estate Central Basin are here to help you out. With almost 40 years of experience right here in our community, they know real estate in our region and property management.

So stop by at Windermere Real Estate Central Basin, let them know we sent you, and, uh, trust the experts with your home. Now let's move into city admin news, school announcements, and a handful of summer opportunities from camps to recreation programs that are beginning to take shape around the 9848.

Construction is estimated to start on June 22nd, 2026, on A Street Northeast, and will be completed by the first week of September 2026. At [00:10:00] least that is pr- the projection. It will impact all of A Street Northeast and any intersection that connects with it. So that means if you live or are traveling through that area regularly, you need to start planning ahead, 'cause next week, that's gonna get a little more complicated, and you're gonna want a different route.

For more information, please contact Hurst Construction LLC at 509-664-0173 or the City of Quincy at 509-787-3523, extension 258. They apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as they improve this really beat-up road that gets a lot of traffic during the year Grant County Fire District 3 is developing its next strategic plan.

They wanna hear from you. Over the past several months, they've been evaluating their services, identifying future challenges, and developing goals to help continue to provide exceptional emergency services to our community. Now it's your turn to help prioritize what matters most. Please take a few minutes to complete their community [00:11:00] strategic planning survey and share your thoughts on priorities that will guide the future of the fire district.

You can find the survey link over on their website or on their social media. Your feedback will help ensure our strategic plan reflects the needs and expectations of the community that they proudly serve. Thank you for helping us build a safer future together. In school news, Quincy School District would like to remind you all district buildings will be closed Friday, June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.

And starting Monday, June 22nd, district offices will begin their summer hour schedules. The district office will be open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM throughout the summer, and the school district will be closed also July 2nd, uh, in preparation for July 4th, of course. The district's offices will be available by appointment from July 13th through July 31st.

Please call 509-787-4571 to schedule an appointment.
