Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Friday, June 19 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Today is Friday, June 19th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update, Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, schools, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.
Whether you're heading to work or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 60 here at the studio. Today, partly sunny with gradually becoming completely sunny with a high near 90.
It's gonna be warm. North wind, five to seven miles per hour. Light, variable. You're not really [00:01:00] gonna notice. Tonight mostly clear with a low around 62. For your weekend, looks like mid to upper 80s during the day Saturday and Sunday, that 86, 87 range. Really, really quite pleasant with a little stronger winds on Saturday evening and into Saturday night.
The nights are gonna be right around 60. We are under a fire watch Saturday with a low humidity in the area and dry winds. This spread fires really quickly. Please be careful. Please be safe this weekend. Uh, and let's not make the boys over at the fire department work any harder than they already are.
They've already got their hands full for fire season starting already. So please be careful if you're out and about, if you're barbecuing, if you're doing something that can cause sparks. But otherwise, it's gonna be a pretty beautiful weekend here in the basin. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is National Flip Flop Day and, yep, not sure why that's a [00:02:00] thing.
It's National Garfield the Cat Day and National Wear Blue Day. I'm not too excited about most of that, but I grew up on Garfield, like old school in the newspaper Garfield the Cat comics, and it's kind of a key factor in my growth. It probably describes a lot of the reason the way I am the way I am. So yeah, National Garfield the Cat Day is pretty great.
If your kids don't know who Garfield is, not the stupid movie they did, but the actual old school, school comics, you can get entire books from the library. They may have to order them in, or they just have stores of the old Garfield comics. And seriously, do your kids a favor and get them something that's actually funny by ordering one of those.
Today Around Town is brought to you by Quincy Partnership for Youth, helping connect young people, families, and community partners to create healthier, stronger futures for the 9848. The Quincy Valley Historic [00:03:00] Society is, and Museum, is proud to bring you Prehistoric Portals on June 19th and 20th, that's this weekend, and also next weekend, the 26th and the 27th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
This event features a dino library, fossil fun, scavenger hunt, rock talk, dino puzzles and games, paleontology dig, dino habitat play, dino color drawing. There will be photo opportunities, dino Play-Doh, and soccer with dinos. Admission is free. Obviously, this is for the younger group. But come on, what kid doesn't love a dino-themed adventure?
It's gonna be an awesome weekend over at the Historical Society. Be sure and take advantage of this with the kids out of school. This will be a great, fun way to spend a weekend with them and do a lot of really cool things. And like I said, every child goes through that dino phase, and they say they grow out of it, but honest to goodness, my 14-year-old still thinks dinosaurs are pretty stinking cool.
Monkey Around Pizza [00:04:00] is hosting Bike Night on Friday, June 19th, tonight from 5:30 to 9:00 PM. All are welcome to bring their motorcycles and show them off. Enjoy some great pizza and burgers. Come join the fun, show off your bike. All riders are welcome. It's gonna be a great night out at Monkey Around Pizza.
This Friday at Annaliese, All Trade & Drum live with DJ Angel- Anna Louise. Free entry from 9:00 PM to 1:45 PM. The kitchen will be open all night. Gather your friends, enjoy a night filled with music, dancing, and the best vibes in Quincy. For inch- information, you can call 509-787-3213. This is a 21 and over event.
Sunland Estates is hosting a benefit for the Burn Children Recovery Foundation, starting tonight at Sunland Estates Park, Friday, June 19th. Music starts at 7:00 PM, featuring '80s dance and rock hits with DJ Ramon Havens, laser light show, house and EDM dance party. They know how to party [00:05:00] at Sunland Estates.
If you haven't been out for a party out there, it's gonna be a s- wild night out there. Also, on Saturday, they continue the fun with a golf tournament. They've got a silent auction Saturday night and a live auction, and live music from Hell on Heels, Northwest premier country rock band. So come on out, enjoy some live music, auctions, golf.
Great fun for a great cause, and help raise some money for a spectacular celebration. If you wanna know more about it, I wrote a story about it over on our website, welcomeToQuincyWA.com, and you can find out a lot more about the Burn Children Recovery Foundation, why they do this. This is their, I b- believe, 10th year doing this, raising money for this foundation.
It is a great local charity. Go read all about it, and then go have an amazing time out at Sunland Estates this weekend. For all of you soccer fans, the USA World Cup watch party locations in our area, Tower Pizza down in Crescent [00:06:00] Bar, and the Lavender Man just above Crescent Bar in Trinidad. There's probably a few other locations.
Those are the ones I could find online, but I did promise to share where World Cup party watch locations would be in our area in case you don't have that channel or whatever they're streaming that on. There you go. There's a couple places to go watch the game
I know it's Friday and we're already doing pretty good 'cause you made it through another week or almost done with another week. But here's that dad joke, put a smile on your face and start the day off right Two windmills were sitting on a hill. One asked the other, "Do you have a favorite song?" The other replies, "Well, all my life I've been a heavy metal fan
In upcoming events, tomorrow is our second farmers market of the season. The first market didn't just fly by, it literally tried to take off. And if you were there when the wind hit, you know [00:07:00] exactly what we mean by that. It was a great event. But even with the gusts, people showed up with the best attitudes, smiles, and community spirit, and it's gonna be another spectacular event tomorrow on the 20th.
Live entertainment, local makers, handcrafted goods, fa- friendly faces, and all the small-town charm that reflects our community. Bring your friends, bring your dance moves, and let's make market two even better, and a little less airborne hopefully than the last one. That's this Saturday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and we'll keep you posted as we go through the summer on, uh, farmers markets dates.
Chris Daniels Winery is hosting a Father's Day Saturday pop-up on June 20th from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM with local artists, live music from The Walker Brothers, and Riverside Dogs will be out bringing some great food There's night golf at the Crescent Bar [00:08:00] Golf Course on Saturday, June 20th. Enjoy a glow-in-the-dark golf fundraising event by the Quincy Booster Club Choir.
There are nine holes with the glow balls and necklaces included. Check-in's 8:30 PM with a shotgun start at 9:00 PM. It's limited to 54 golfers. I haven't seen that they've closed registration, so if you're interested, call the CBRA Pro Shop at 509-754-5002 to reserve your spot to play glow-in-the-dark golf tomorrow night In church events, your summer VBS schedule looks like this so far.
Faith Community Church VBS is June 22nd to June 25th, that's next week, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. St. Paul Lutheran Church's VBS is July 6th to July 10th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the First Baptist Church VBS at July 6th through July 10th, same week, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, so you can actually go [00:09:00] to both.
And Quincy Free Methodist VBS is at July 13th through July 17th, 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Also, it- we are heading into the weekend, and around the 9848, we have a lot of great houses of worship. Be sure and check in with your local church, whatever is in l- in alignment where you need to be, and connect deeply with people who are in community over your faith.
And I promise, it just makes life better to be deeply rooted In safety announcements and community highlights, Washington State Department of Transportation is gonna start working on those I-90 bridges that they've talked about for a long time. The Hanson Road overpass at milepost 174 demolition is scheduled to start in early July.
I believe it's actually starting this next week, and followed by immediate construction. So if you're heading that direction towards Moses Lake, understand there's gonna be [00:10:00] some work. There's also still work at night on I-90 right here in our own little area from the bridge all the way up towards George, so you know, single lane road closures.
I think we're pretty used to it by now, but just in case you forgot, still happening at night. State Route 20, the North Cascades Highway, is fully reopened for the season after extensive repairs in the early part of the season. And the Grant County Fire Marshal reminds you that the annual burn ban is in effect, and reckless burning is a crime, uh, that has a nasty fine and up to a year in jail.
It's gonna be a really dry, long fire season that's already well underway, so please, please be safe as we go into fire season. And if you have upcoming events, be sure not just to send them to us, but list them on the local community calendar over at 98848vision.org. It's a great free sor- resource to share your event.
You can put that event out there way ahead of time so people see it and [00:11:00] know it's coming. It also makes it really easy. It's one of the places I check and look for events. So if you didn't know, we have a free community calendar at 98848vision.org, and it's a great resource if you wanna get your events out there for the community.
You're listening to the Good Morning Quincy, Washington Newscast, brought to you by our friends at Windermere Real Estate, Central Basin. If you're buying or selling a home around the Central Basin, Deb and her team are here to help you out with almost 40 years of experience right here in our community.
There's no one better to buy from or to work with than somebody who's lived here for years and years and years and knows the ins and outs of living in the basin. Now let's move on to City Admin news, school announcements, and a handful of summer opportunities from camps to recreation programs that are all beginning to take shape around the 98848.
Quincy's Recreation Department would like everyone to know that summer day camp registrations are still open. You can sign up your kiddo for lots of summer fun with field trips, swimming, games, crafts, library time, and other [00:12:00] fun that we can schedule for the kids. Camp hours will be from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with drop-off starting at 7:30 AM and pick-up ending at 5:30 PM each weekday.
This camp is for kids ages five to 12. For more information, please contact the Recreation Department at 509-787-3523, extension five. The splash pad on 6th Avenue Northeast, the new park, is up and live if you haven't heard about it yet. If you haven't heard that yet, uh, and the pictures are already rolling in.
Kids are having a great time. It is just an amazing new park. If you haven't been over to the new park on 6th Avenue Northeast, you've missed out already. But now the splash pad is officially on. The park hours will be 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, and we're asking the community to help us keep a watch on the park and notify us if something is broken or being misused or people are, are abusing it.
This is a brand-new facility, [00:13:00] and we want it to be around for years and years and years, and people are already being kind of tacky. We've had problems with people putting all-terrain vehicles on it and things that have no business being up on the new sod or around the toys. So if- You're there and see people damaging it, blatantly damaging the thing or whatever, please, please report it.
Let's not have the park shut down for maintenance for extended times because people are just being boneheads. The City of Quincy is asking all residents to voluntarily adhere to a watering schedule that they posted as Washington heads into its fourth year of drought. It's been posted on the city site, but essentially there's no watering between 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Even addresses are asked to water only on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and odd addresses are asked to only water on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday with no watering on Mondays. Watering schedule does not [00:14:00] apply to newly planted landscapes and vegetable gardens that have to be tended a little more closely, but mainly to yards.
The city composting facility is now operating on the summer hours, which are Tuesday through Saturday, 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM with an hour closer, closure at lunch from 11:15 to 12:15 PM so those guys can get a chance to eat. In school news, Ascending Track and Field presents Jackrabbit Youth Track and Field Summer Camp, a fun and positive engaging summer camp for elementary and middle school athletes of all abilities.
Learn new skills, build confidence, and fall in love with track and field. Camp dates are June 23rd, so starting next week, to July 31st with practices on Tuesday and Thursday starting at 8:00 or 9:00, depending on the age group. There's also three meets included with this event for athletes to compete on Saturday, July 18th, July 25th, and August 1st.
Cost is $35, and it's a great opportunity for Quincy athletes [00:15:00] to enter track and field and try it out, see if they love it, see if they wanna continue with it, learn all about it, try different things. It's a great opportunity for our young athletes. This week in Jack's Life, Quincy Youth Baseball sends this message out to all their players and parents.
The weather's looking prime for some water time today, so don't forget to wear your swimsuit under your uniform shirt and bring a towel. Parents may also consider bringing lawn chairs if you plan to stay for the festivities. The Quincy Babe Ruth field behind Quincy Middle School is where this is happening, 16th, 6th Avenue Southeast.
Closing ceremonies will begin promptly at 5:30 PM with some words from our president and vice president, followed by barbecue, baseball, and a lot of water games. So come ready to get wet as they wrap this out. Let's wrap out today's show with a quote from Amelia Earhart. "The most [00:16:00] difficult thing is the decision to act.
The rest is merely tenacity." That wraps up your week here on the Good Morning Quincy, Washington Newscast.
