Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Monday, June 22 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Monday, June 22nd, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy Washington Newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Southern Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. We wanna take this moment and wish all of you fathers a belated happy Father's Day.
We hope you had a great day with your loved ones yesterday. We don't do the show on Sundays, so we didn't get a chance to say it then. So to all the fathers out there, thank you, and happy belated happy Father's Day. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, and community local business news.
Whether you're heading to work or just easing into your day, we're [00:01:00] here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently in the mid-60s here at the studio, slightly cooler in George, slightly warmer along the river communities.
Today, sunny with a high near 89. North wind 5 to 14 miles an hour with gusts as high as 24. Pretty standard stuff here around the 9848. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 61. In other weather news, yesterday officially marked the summer solstice, the longest day of our year with little over 17 hours of sunlight in our area.
Uh, the days get shorter from here, but they're gonna take their time. You know, beautiful summer weather, but yesterday was officially the longest day of the year
If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, I know it's Monday morning, but it is National Onion Ring Day. And so here is my question for you, [00:02:00] 'cause I've had onion rings a few places here in the area. Who makes the very best onion rings in the 9848? I really wanna know. Sound off in the comments. Maybe I'll see about putting up some kinda, you know, uh, voting on the website.
I'll see if I can do that. But it's also National Chocolate Eclair Day, which chocolate eclairs are amazing. If you've never had one, you've missed out. The ones out of the freezer section don't count. We need somebody... Maybe we can get Crazy Lady Kitchen or someone wonderful like that who's got baking talent to make chocolate eclairs.
There's an idea. Let's, let's get people to do that. We don't have any good ones in the area. But I really, really wanna know who makes the best onion rings in the 9848. Put it to the test. If you've got a suggestion, let us know. I wanna find out Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center is hosting a coffee hour at 10:00 AM and line dancing at 1:00 [00:03:00] PM.
They also host Bridge on some Mondays, but I'm not seeing it on their schedule for today, so don't bank on that one. We're starting the week a little slower. It is Monday. Everybody's coming down from the big weekend. There was lots of excitement this weekend, lots of things to do. Really, really busy weekend.
Uh, so we're, we're easing into our week this week. The summer library program is running in full swing, and they've got a full summer season of reading, creativity, and fun at the Quincy Public Library. Stop by the library to sign up or join anytime. Now, it is Monday, and I know that's a little hard for some people. Like I said, I, I do worse on [00:05:00] Tuesdays. I don't know what it is. But I know you're looking for a reason to smile, and we won't leave you hanging because we've got your Daily Dad Joke for you. So here you go. Here's your reason to smile this morning and start out the day a little better.
What do you call a pony with a sore throat? A little horse
In upcoming events, Crafternoon for Kids is back for summer fun. Calling all young artists and creators, get ready to make something amazing. Join the library on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 PM, starting June 16th through August 11th for hands-on creativity. Each week features a brand-new craft with all supplies provided.
Kids can create and explore, kids can create and explore their imaginations in a welcoming and safe space. Crafts are geared towards school-aged kids, but younger children are welcome too. They just may need a little extra help from their grownups, and that's a great way to [00:06:00] spend some time with your kids.
Space is limited, so be sure to come early, grab your spot, and let's get crafty together this summer. For our local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs, the Grant County Economic Development Council and the Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce are hosting a free small business resource and requirements workshop on Wednesday, June 24th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with doors opening at 8:30 AM at Skill Source in Moses Lake.
Representatives from state agencies and local organizations, including but not limited to SBDC, Department of Revenue, Labor & Industry, the Department of Commerce will be there to answer questions and connect you with free resources to help you plan, start, and grow your business. This is a great community resource.
I do believe you have to sign up and register for it. Head over to the Grant County Economic Development Council website. Uh, I think you can also sign [00:07:00] up at the Skill Source website for the Moses Lake Skill Source. This is gonna be a great opportunity for our aspiring business owners and young entrepreneurs.

In church events, here's your summer VBS schedule. Faith Community Church VBS starts tonight, June 22nd, and goes through June 25th from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Faith Community Church. They've got a lot of kids going and still room for more, so if you're interested in that, be sure and connect with them. St.
Paul Lutheran's Church VBS is July 6th through July 10th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM each day, and the First Baptist Church's VBS is July 6th through July 10th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM each day. Quincy Val- sorry, Quincy Free Methodist Church's VBS is July 13th through the 17th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM each day In safety [00:09:00] announcements and community highlights, the Grant County Fire Marshal reminds you the annual burn ban is in effect and reckless burning is a crime.
So please be very careful this weekend. We're already b- fighting a lot of fires, battling a lot of blazes out there. Uh, we have one of the best fire departments in the country, honestly, in our area, and they are working in overtime, guys. It's gonna be a really dry, long fire season, so please be responsible.
We had a fire recently started by a dragging chain. Someone didn't secure their chain, uh, for their trailer, and it's caused some havoc already. So please, please, please be careful out there. Pet owners, here's a quick reminder. It's Microchip Mondays are back at the Grant County Animal Outreach throughout the month of June.
Every Monday from 10 AM to 2 PM, you can get your pet microchipped for just $15, and that includes free registration. No appointments needed, just stop by the shelter. Remember to keep pets on a leash or in the [00:10:00] carrier and in the vehicle, and check in with staff before removing the ve- animals from your vehicle.
Be prepared to pay at the time of service. If you ever get a lost pet, a microchip can make all the difference in getting them home safely. We're looking forward to helping everybody. Let's get those m- animals microchipped before July 4th weekend. While a lot of us enjoy July 4th, we all know our pets do not.
The Quincy Partnership for Youth is still looking to get people to take the community survey. It's now open, and they want to understand better youth substance in our community, and they need your voice. They need to know what you're seeing, what you're experiencing, what you're hearing. This short survey is for community members age 18 and up, and help us learn about current issues, and make sure local prevention programs are focused on what the community actually needs.
It takes five to seven minutes. It's completely anonymous. As a thank you, participants can enter a prize drawing for a [00:11:00] chance to enter to win one adult bike and one youth bike, generously donated by Microsoft. From the city offices, notice is [00:12:00] hereby given that construction is starting and A Street Northeast will be closed for a while.
Uh, A Street Northeast from the intersection of Third Avenue to Sixth Avenue will be closed, as well as its intersecting streets as they start work today, and that work is scheduled to go through September. For more information, please contact Hurst Construction at five o nine six six four zero one seven three, or the city of Quincy at five o nine seven eight seven three five two three extension two five eight.
They apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as they work on fixing all the damage of this road. If you've ever been on A Street, you know A Street is pretty beat up and could use the upgrade. So please plan to go a different direction. A Street is actually very busy and is used on a regular basis.
Just [00:13:00] understand that you're going to have to reroute for a little while. Quincy Rec Department asks, "Please help us preserve the integrity of our new park and splash pad located at Sixth Avenue and E Street by abiding by the following rules. No bikes, scooters, skateboards, s- skates or similar items are allowed within the padded play areas.
These areas can be damaged, the brand-new padding, so please help keep our playground clean." We appreciate everyone helping with this, and keep all of the things like bikes and scooters and skates off the padded area and where they actually belong. Also, no motorized vehicles. There is no reason to have any kind of motorized vehicle in parks, period.
Please help keep the playground clean. We don't wanna see it beat up. We have this new beautiful facility, and people are already trying to trash it, so please help [00:14:00] us keep it clean. Swim lesson registration is open for the year on the city's website. If you're interested in swim lessons that will begin in July, then head over to the city website to sign up for swim lessons at the new Aquatic Center.
And tentative dates for the opening of the new Quincy Aquatic Center are set for this coming weekend. The City of Quincy is asking all residents to voluntarily adhere to the watering schedule they posted on their website as Washington heads into its fourth year of drought. You can find it on the city website, but essentially no watering from 10 to 7. Even addresses are asked to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays.
Odds are asked to water only on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday with no watering on Mondays. [00:15:00] Watering schedule does not apply to newly planted landscapes or vegetable gardens.
