Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Monday, July 6 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Good morning, Quincy. Today is Monday, July 6th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here We're coming out of a big 4th of July weekend.
I hope you had an amazing holiday celebrating America's 250th birthday
And I hope you have all your fingers and toes still and didn't spend any time in the ER. Big shout out to Grant County Fire, who had a super busy weekend, and a huge just gratitude to all those guys and gals that take care of us and are fighting so hard right now. We got a lot of fires around us, folks.
In the next few [00:01:00] minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news. Everything you need to know coming out of your busy holiday weekend. Whether you're heading to work, getting the kids out the door off to a VBS or a summer camp or whatever they got going on this week, or maybe you're just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community.
Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Low 60s here in the studio. Little cooler in George, little warmer in the River communities. Six different sources can't quite agree what the actual temperature is right here where we live, so we're gonna say just low 60s for now.
Today, sunny with a high near 92. It's gonna be a warm one. Make sure and hydrate. Make sure and give yourself a break from the sunlight if you're outside a lot, and take care of that. After a big [00:02:00] weekend, it's really easy to take that sunburn to a whole nother level Northern breeze, but nothing to write home about.
Tonight, partly cloudy with a low around 63. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, even though we had a pretty big celebration this weekend, today we're going from the fryer to the flight tower to a little extra romance. There's a lot of reasons to celebrate. Today covers a broad ground, so we've got you covered pretty much.
It's National Fried Chicken Day. And come on, that's always a season- reason to celebrate. Like, I don't mean generic fried chicken, I mean actual fried chicken. If you've never made fried chicken at home, it is a lot of work, but it is absolutely worth it. It's also National Air Traffic Controller, and I have a deep appreciation of those lovely people who have a super high stressful job as I'm coming off vacation from last week.
A lot of flights. Very thankful for our air traffic controllers that land so many planes every day [00:03:00] all over our nation. And if you wanna have a little more fun, today is International Kissing Day, so maybe share a kiss with that someone you love. Here's the big challenge. If you've been married for more than a hot minute, actually spend some time kissing your spouse today.
I don't know what it is about marriage, but as we get busy, we tend to stop kissing our spouses as much. That's a general royal we. But you know what? Maybe it's been a little while since you got more than a peck on the cheek with that spouse. Pucker up. It's International Kissing Day. Share a kiss like you used to.
Promise it will brighten your day. Today around town, we're jumping right back into it. The Quincy Senior Center hosts a coffee hour at 10:00 AM. They've got line dancing at 1:00 PM, and they got bridge at 2:15. And the menu can be found on welcometoquincywa.com in the notes section for lunch. [00:04:00] There's a brand new group in Quincy called The Mom Walk Co.
I think I'm saying that right, where moms will be meeting several times a month and enjoying a walk or a playdate together. Their first walk playdate is today at 9:30 AM at Loescher Park. Every mom is welcome. Bring your stroller, bike, scooter, baby carrier, whatever will make this a little walk just a little bit more fun for you and your kiddos.
Be sure to have lots of water. It is gonna be a hot one today, and get ready to meet some new mom friends. You can also connect with them on their Facebook page. Today, Beyond Boundaries College Conversations is coming to the Quincy Public Library They'll be here this week and a couple more times this month.
They have drop-in support available from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, and also from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, with presentations at 3:00 PM. Big Bend Community College and Skill Source are offering this free college and career support for high school [00:05:00] students, recent graduates, and adults exploring their next steps. They'll cover things like college applications, FAFSA/WASFA assistance, scholarship support, financial literacy workshop, career and training pathway exploration.
No registration is needed. Just stop by and get personalized one-on-one assistance. This is a huge thing if you don't have a young person in this age group yet. Trust me, this is a huge thing for parents with kids in this age group, and it's always good to start planning ahead. The free Summer Meals Assistance program is back on with the Quincy School District today.
Uh, children ages zero to 18 can enjoy free meals this summer through our Sit & Eat or meal pickup program. There's only two pickups per week, except at Quincy Rec Center. Multiple meals at once, no need for children to be present for the pickup, and it's an easy drive-through service. The Sit & Eat sites are Quincy City Parks or the recreation building from June 23rd through August 8th, Monday through [00:06:00] Friday.
Breakfast is 7:30 to 8:00, and lunch is 11:30 to 12:15. Pickup sites are Quincy Middle School and George Elementary. That's June 22nd through July 30th for the pickups. Mondays are six meals per child, and Thursdays are eight meals per child, and that can be picked up from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Now it is Monday, and I know it's hard to come off a long weekend, right?
Who actually wants to go back to work? And I know the official holiday for workers was Friday, even though the holiday was Saturday, so that means everybody's going back to work today, and sometimes that can be a little rough. So I got you, though. We, we got your, we got your Daily Dad Joke right here. This one's a good one.
I'm pretty happy with this one, so tell me what you think. What's the difference between the bird flu and the swine flu? One requires tweetment, the [00:07:00] other requires an ointment
I thought it was funny. If you didn't, tell me in the comments. In upcoming events, the Quincy Public Library is announcing that Craft Afternoon for Kids is back for summer fun. They're calling all young artists and creators. Get ready to make something amazing. Join them tomorrow and each Tuesday this summer through August 11th from 2:30 to 3:30 PM for hands-on creativity.

Crafts are geared towards school-aged kids, but younger children are welcome too. They just may need a little extra help from their grownups. Space is limited, so be sure and come early, grab your spot, and let's get crafty together for the summer.
She Strong Studio has Zumba classes on Tuesdays for-- at 6:00 PM for all their members [00:08:00] And maybe your kid wants to pick up something new this summer. They can come learn to play pickleball for ages six through 12 using fun, high-repetition drills and games to develop confidence and technique with a focus on safety first using age-appropriate equipment, structured warm-ups, and a positive environment.

St. Paul [00:11:00] Lutheran Church's VBS will be from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM starting today and each day through Friday at 716 Third Avenue Southeast here in Quincy. For an evening VBS option, First Baptist Church VBS will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, also starting today and going through Friday, located at 707 J Street Southwest here in Quincy.
And then next week, Quincy Free Methodist Church's VBS is July 13th through the 17th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM In safety announcements, hey, here's another tip for keeping your house cooler as we head towards the 90s today. Close off any unused fireplace dampeners. An open fireplace damper can let cool indoor air escape up the chimney, so make sure the damper is fully closed when the fireplace is not in use.
Hate to have all your bought air flowing out through your flue. Also, check [00:12:00] your bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans. Exhaust fans pull air out of the house, which means hot air has to come in from somewhere to replace it. So use them when needed, but don't leave them running longer than necessary during the hottest parts of the day.
