Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Tuesday, July 7 2026
Speaker: [00:00:00] Today is Tuesday, July 7th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. Just a quick shout-out to Team USA. Uh, the Team USA's journey has come to an end for the World Cup, but just a shout-out to those guys.
We're really proud of you as a country. You represented us very well. Well played. Congratulations, and we're all proud of you. Thank you for being an outstanding group of men and representing us in the World Cup, and well done on your journey. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city [00:01:00] council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.
Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Low 60s here at the studio. A little cooler in George, a little warmer in the river communities. I checked five different sources, and not a single one could agree on exactly what the actual temperature is right now. I got everything ranging from 56 to 65.
But it's somewhere in there this morning, but it's gonna get warm today, so we'll just jump to that high point. It's gonna get warm today. Today's gonna be sunny with a high near 95, light and variable wind becoming south nine to 14 miles per hour this afternoon with the occasional gust. We are moving into a red flag warning going into effect this afternoon at 1:00 all the way through 11 o'clock tonight.
Uh, those windy conditions are just going to increase throughout the day. It's gonna be hot. It's gonna be dry. Please, please, please be careful. We already [00:02:00] got enough fires going on without more starting. Please be very careful today. Be very cognizant. Don't park your cars in dry fields, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
You guys live here. You know how to do it. Usually it's not a local starting fires, but please be aware it is under ideal conditions and our amazing firefighters have their work cut out for them already. Tonight, partly cloudy with a low around 64. Breezy, with those winds continuing to pick up throughout the evening.
If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today is filled with sweetness and great tunes as it's World Chocolate Day, National Rock 'n' Roll Day, and National Strawberry Sundae Day. So start your day off with a rockin' jam, treat yourself to a strawberry sundae, and maybe pick up some chocolate from a different part of the world.
Believe it or not, it actually does taste different depending on where you get it from. If you never played that game, you should absolutely try that out. Uh, chocolate tastes different [00:03:00] depending on where it's made in the world Today around town, the Quincy Senior Youth Center has an exercise class at 1:00 PM.
They play Mexican Train at 6:30 PM after dinner, and of course we'll have the dinner menu up, up on welcome2quincywa.com in the notes section. Here's a highlight of one of our wonderful community resources. The Quincy Community Food Bank is open on Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and again from 4:30 to 6:00 PM.
The food bank is located, located at 210 First Avenue Southeast in Quincy, and can be reached at 509-787-4963, or quincyfoodbank@gmail.com. The food bank also welcomes volunteers, so feel free to reach out to see how you can be of service. Summer meals are in full swing for the Quincy School District.
Children ages zero to 18, I still can't get over the whole zero thing, can enjoy free meals this summer through the Sit and Eat program or the Pick Up Meal [00:04:00] program. The Sit and Eat sites are Quincy City Parks or the rec building from June 23rd through August 8th, Monday through Fridays. Breakfast is 7:30 to 8:00 AM, and lunches are 11:30 to 12:15.
Crafternoon for kids is going on today over at the library. Join them today from 2:30 to 3:30 PM for hands-on creativity. Each week through August 11th they're featuring brand-new crafts with all supplies provided. Kids can create and explore their imaginations in a welcoming and safe space. Crafts are geared towards school-aged kids, but younger children are welcome.
They just may need a little extra help from their grown-ups. Space is limited, so be sure and come early and grab your spot. Let's get crafty together all summer long. See Strong Studio has Zumba classes on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM for all of their members. And if you're looking for something for your kid to learn this year, maybe they can learn pickleball.
For ages six to 12, [00:05:00] the rec department is running a program for kids who wanna learn pickleball using high repetition drills and games that develop confidence and technique with a focus on safety first using age-appropriate equipment, structured warmups, and positive environments. Camps runs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM- It runs from June 30th through July 23rd, located at Leisure Park.
This camp is brought to you by the Rec Department, and for questions, you can call 509-787-3523, extension five, or email recreation@quincywashington.us Now let's put that smile on your face this morning and start the day off right with your daily dad joke. What did the big flower say to the little flower?
Hi, bud

Don't shorten it Calling on all young squires and maidens, join us in Camelot for some medieval merriment. This summer, Adventure in the Castle, AKA The Heritage Barn, includes dragons, knights, and princesses.
The Quincy Valley Historical Society Museum is hosting an event called Camelot Quest this Friday and Saturday only from 11:00 AM to 4:00 AM for elementary-aged kids. This is a one-weekend event. It will not be a two-weekend event like the dinosaur event was. This is just this coming Friday and Saturday.
It's from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, [00:07:00] and it's designed for elementary-aged kids. Gonna be a lot of fun. The dinosaur program was amazing. They did such an incredible job with that, and so many young people had fun. That's coming up this weekend. It's a new week for VBS. This week, you can find Vacation Bible School at two different churches.
St. Paul Lutheran Church's VBS will be from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. That started yesterday, and it goes each day through Friday, and it's located at 716 3rd Avenue Southeast here in Quincy. If you're looking for a VBS option for the evenings, First Baptist Church's VBS is being held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, also started yesterday, going through Friday, located at 707 J Street Southwest here in Quincy.
Quincy Free Methodist Church will be running their VBS next week, July 13th through 17th, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM daily as well. And your local safety announcements and tips. Here's another summer [00:08:00] cooling tip. Sun-facing rooms can heat up really fast. Curtains, shades, and better airflow can keep those spaces more comfortable.
And don't forget to reverse your ceiling fans. Set ceiling fans to spin counterclockwise during the summer. This pushes air downward, creating a wind chill effect that can make the room feel cooler without actually lowering the thermostat or the temperature in the room, but it does feel a whole lot better.
And if you don't know how to reverse your fan, A, make sure it's going the way you want it to. If it's not, there is that little black switch Up on the top base that you've basically ignored most of your life with the fan, that's how you change the direction. Make sure it's off when you do that Did you know that most modern web browsers on your computer or phone will change the language of a web page for you?
It's built right into modern web browsers anymore. So all of our articles on welcome2quincy.com can be read in Spanish or a number of other languages as well as English. Whatever floats your [00:09:00] boat, we want everybody to be up on the news, and so we're really glad that that feature is built in for everybody.
Now let's move into city admin news, school announcements, and a handful of summer opportunities from camps to recreation programs that are happening around the 9848. Tonight there's a City of Quincy Council meeting. Meetings are open to the public and are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 104 B Street Southwest.
This summer there's something for everyone at the Quincy Aquatic Center. Now that we've got it open, the Quincy Rec Department has done an incredible job at filling the calendar of events for the Aquatic Center, and a lot of people have no idea what's going on out there. So whether you're looking to get a workout in, enjoy some quiet time, meet some new people, or just have some fun with friends, they've got a program for you.
They have a lap swim program where you can get your laps in during their dedicated swim times. They've got a water walking program, [00:10:00] which is a low impact way to stay active and cool off and get your steps in with a little bit more resistance than just walking out of the water. They've got a book club at the pool.
You have to be 13 or older. Bring a book, any book, float, relax, read, and enjoy some peaceful time by the water. They've got the Next Wave Future Lifeguard Club, ages 12 to 16. It's a free program for teens interested in building some swimming skills, confidence, leadership, and preparing for a future with lifeguarding.
And they've got their Friday night swim for ages 13 plus. Your Friday night plans are officially covered. Hang out with friends, swim, listen to music, and enjoy the pool. That is really aimed at the ages 13 through high school age group. So there is something for everybody going on over at the Aquatic Center This week in Jack's Life, the QHS alumni soccer game is this Friday.
The wait's almost over. Kickoff is at [00:11:00] 7:00 PM this Friday, July 10th, as our Quincy High School soccer alumni return to the pitch for an evening of great soccer memories and community at Jackrabbit Stadium. Alumni registration is closed. They will not be accepting any additional player registrations. Come out and support our alumni, reconnect with familiar faces, and enjoy a great night of soccer.
They can't wait to see everybody this Friday. The Quincy swim team will have their first of only two home meets this Thursday night, the 9th, at 6:00 PM at the Quincy Aquatic Center. It's a really short season. They've only got two home meets. Come cheer 'em on this Thursday night at 6:00 PM at the Aquatic Center.
I was a swimmer in high school. Swim meets are a whole lot better when you have a whole lot of people cheering and yelling loudly for you from the side of the pool. I know this firsthand, so come cheer on these young athletes. Let's wrap out today with a [00:12:00] quote from Indira Gandhi: "You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist."
