Good Morning Quincy WA Daily Brief – Thursday, July 9 2026
[00:00:00] Quincy. Today is Thursday, July 9th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Summit Estates, and all the surrounding area. If it matters in the 9848, you'll hear it here. In the next few minutes, we'll cover today's weather, what's happening around town, school sports and activities, school, city council, police, fire, church, community, and local business news.
Whether you're heading to work or just easing into your day, we're here to help you stay connected to what's happening in our community. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently in the low to mid-60s around the studio, wildly different reports depending on what source you look at.
I looked at seven different sources and none of them actually agree on what the current temperature is. [00:01:00] It's kind of funny. Today, sunny with a high of about ninety-one. They did all agree on that. With northwest winds 6 to 10 miles per hour becoming southwest in the afternoon. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 62.
Northwest wind 9 to 15 miles per hour with gusts as high as 24 miles per hour. Pretty standard here in the basin area. If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, today should put a smile on your face as it's National Dimples Day. It's also National Sugar Cookie Day, so share some sugar cookies with your favorite smile and enjoy the rare trait of people with dimples today.
A smile for a smile. Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center has an exercise class today at 1 p.m., pinnacle at 3 p.m. Also, they play Mexican Train at 6:30 p.m. after dinner, and you're in for a special treat today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Old Time Fiddlers will be performing at the senior center today. [00:02:00] So there's a special event there from 4:30 to 5:30 for our seniors.
Quincy Rotary Club will be meeting at 12:10 today at the Jack's Restaurant, as they usually do over at the Quincy Public Market. And today at the library, summer story time is here. Join us for stories, songs, movement, and fun crafts or coloring activities for every session. Perfect for kids a-ages one to eleven and their grownups build early literacy skills and make summer memories together.
No registration is required. Just come in, learn, play, and create. There's still more remaining story time dates on the 9th, 15th, and the 19th, and also one in August. So they can't wait to see you this summer. But go enjoy summer story time today. If you've ever wondered what drug prevention looks like in our community, come check out Quincy Partnership for Youth meeting tonight, July 9th, at 5:00 PM.[00:03:00]
Port- happens at the Port of Quincy to learn more about the work they're doing, hear about updates on current projects, and discover ways to get involved in creating a healthier community for everyone. They'd love to see you there. They're always looking for people to come be involved. Come check out this work going on, and I'll see you there tonight.
Latino Civic Alliance will be at the public library today for a special community visit at 1:30 PM. They'll be there to share valuable information, resources, and support with our Quincy community. Their team will provide important information on fentanyl awareness and prevention, helping families stay informed and empowered.
There's also several impactful community programs that they talk about, including Building Future Leaders Indus- sorry, Building Future Industry Leaders, I Am a Jaguar, Supporting Small Business, Brain Health and Dementia Awareness, and Protect Yourself from Pesticides. The LCA represen- [00:04:00] representatives will be available to answer all your questions, offer guidance, and connect with individuals who may benefit from these programs.
Join them today for an opportunity to learn, engage, and strengthen our community together. Tonight at the Riverside from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, they have trivia night. Calling all trivia lovers. Grab your friends, test your knowledge, and join in for some fun, food, and friendly competition down at the Riverside in Sunland Estates.
The food there is awesome. The community there is a lot of fun, and they always have a good time down at the Riverside. If you've never been and you love trivia, this is a great opportunity. Go meet some of the spectacular people from the Sunland Estates community if you haven't yet. Make some new friends.
I promise it's gonna be a good night down there. It's Thursday. You're making it through the week pretty well. But just to make sure we're starting the day with a smile so you can appreciate those dimples, here's your daily dad joke. [00:05:00] Why did the math book look sad? because it had too many problems
In upcoming events, we're calling all young squires and maidens. Join us in Camelot for some med- medieval merriment. This summer adventure in the castle, AKA the Heritage Barn, includes dragons, knights, and princesses, the Sword of the Stone, and many more. The Quincy Valley Historical Society and Museum are hosting an event called Camelot Quest this Friday and Saturday only from 11 to 4 PM, from 11 AM to 4 PM for kids of ages elementary school Camelot Quest is a one-weekend event only, and it's designed for the elementary-aged kids.
It's not like their prehistoric program that they did a couple weeks ago. This is a one-weekend event. But that last event was so successful. It was [00:06:00] so cool to see the pictures coming out of that. It was so much fun. Uh, be sure and take your kids over this weekend, Friday and Saturday. It's 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
It's a great way to spend some time. They're gonna have a blast digging into this. I wanna go. I was reading the flyer yesterday. I'm a little too old, but I wanna go 'cause it looks that cool. There's a car wash and fundraiser event on Friday at AutoZone starting at 12:00 PM. The girls' soccer team will be participating in to raise money to help pay for their summer tournament fees.
Let's come out and support our local kids, the sports teams. I love hearing about these car washes. Please, please, if you're doing one of these events, let us know a couple days before. Don't trust that we're gonna find the event. Just let us know ahead of time so we can share it with the community. I love these events, whether they're car washes or other [00:07:00] fundraisers that our youth do.
We love supporting youth here in the area, and if nobody knows it's gonna happen, that's a problem. So if your car's looking a little gross, I park under trees, so, you know, apologies to the girls' soccer team ahead of time 'cause there's a lot of bird poop on my car. But I will definitely be going over to head over to the car wash.
It's a great way to get my car clean, and it's a great way to contribute to some of our young people and programs here in the area. So that's over at AutoZone on Friday starting at 12:00 PM. The Quincy Rotary Club is calling all pickleball players for their second annual Serve for Service Pickleball Tournament coming up on Saturday, August 15th at Losure Park.
Grab a partner for a day of fun, competition, and community with doubles play open to all skill levels for players 16 and older. Check-in begins at 8:00 AM. Play starts at 9:00 AM. The entry fee, entry fee is [00:08:00] $60 per team. Registration closes Monday, August 3rd. So sign up now while they got slots open. The Rotary Club is also looking for sponsors to help support the event, and proceeds benefiting local projects, youth programs, and community initiatives will stay right here in Quincy.
So you can find the registration and sponsorship information at the Quincy Rotary Club Facebook page. If you're looking for a fun night out with your friends, get ready for bingo with raffles and prizes on Friday night at 8:00 PM at Tower Pizza in Crescent Bar. That's right, head on down to Crescent Bar this weekend and play bingo down at Tower Pizza.
Have some fun. While you're down there, it's movie night under the stars at the Crescent Bar Campground. Grab your family, friends, blankets, and lawn chairs, and join in for a fun-filled evening on the golf course at Crescent Bar Campground on Saturday, July 11th. The movie starts at 9:30 PM on the golf course between tee box one and green nine.
Free popcorn while supplies [00:09:00] last. There's nothing better than a summer evening under the stars with a great movie, good company, and plenty of popcorn. Bring a blanket, chair, find your perfect spot, enjoy a relaxing night with the Crescent Bar community. Fun for all ages, family-friendly atmosphere. This week, our summer VBS schedule has continued, and St.
Paul Lutheran's Church has been running their VBS from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, uh, all week this week along with-- over at 716 Third Avenue Southeast here in Quincy, and First Baptist Church has been running theirs also from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, uh, over at 707 J Street Southwest here in Quincy. I've been hearing some great feedback from some of the kids involved with the two programs.
It's almost wrapped up for the week. It is Thursday, but you can catch the last day or two, or if you missed it entirely, Quincy Free Methodist Church VBS starts [00:10:00] next week, July 13th, and runs through the 17th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM every night. So we've got some great opportunities for the young people in the area
