Today is Monday, July 13th, 2026, and this is the Good Morning Quincy, Washington newscast with your daily local update for Quincy, George, Winchester, Crescent Bar, Sunland Estates, and all of the surrounding area. Grab your coffee, get ready for your day, and let's start with today's forecast. Currently 58 here at the studio. Today, sunny with a high in the low 90s.
Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 10 miles per hour this afternoon. Winds could gust as high as [00:01:00] 20. Pretty typical wind here in the basin area. Tonight, mostly clear with a low around 63, and south winds 6 to 9 miles per hour becoming northwest after midnight. In club sports news, congratulations to the girls under 12 soccer team.
With only nine girls who-- for the whole tournament, zero subs, you're looking at the Starfire Cup GU12 champs. Fantastic job, players and coach. The team went four wins, zero losses, a battle at the finals going into penalty kicks, and with the big win to win the whole tournament. Congratulations to our Starfire Cup GU12 champs If you're looking for a reason to celebrate, toda- today we celebrate National Paul Day.
So I don't know why Paul gets his own special day, but if you've got a friend named Paul, treat him to a cup of coffee this morning. It's his day. It's [00:02:00] also Embrace Your Geekness Day. Now, you may not be a geek or think you're not, but geekness shows up in a lot of ways, whether you're a comic book person, a computer person, a movie person, a D&D person, a name your...
Maybe you're a card person. Whatever your geekness is, embrace your inner geekness today, have a little fun, and be who you are, because you're pretty spectacular that way. Today around town, the Quincy Senior Center hosts coffee at 10:30 this morning. They got line dancing at 1:00 PM, and the menu can be found over at walkintoquincy.com in the notes section as usual.
The Quincy School District Free Summer Meals program is in full swing, and your zero to 18s can enjoy free meals this summer through the Sit & Eat and the Pick-Up Meal program. There's only two pick-ups per week, except at the Quincy Rec Center, with multiple meals at once. No need for children to be [00:03:00] present for the pick-up.
Easy drive-through service. There's also the Sit & Eat sites at the Quincy City Park and the recreation building June 23rd through August 8th, Monday through Friday. Breakfast, 7:30 to 8:00 AM, and lunch, 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM. Pick-up sites are Quincy Middle School and George Elementary, June 22nd through July 30th.
Mondays are six meals per child, and Thursdays are eight meals per child. That pick-up time is 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The Quincy Rec Department is hosting water working... Sorry, water walking, not water working. That would be something totally different. Water walking on Mondays through Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, also on Saturdays, 10:30 to 12:30 PM at the Quincy Aquatic Center.
Water working it- water working, I can't get past that. Water walking is a low impact exercise with high benefits and improves circulation, builds strength. [00:04:00] It feels great. Water wo- walking is limited to the lazy river only. The Quincy Rec Department is also hosting their first Aqua Zumba classes at the Quincy Aquatic Center, taught by Zuma- Zumba Amy.
Starting tonight at July 13th at 8:30 PM. The cost is $30 per month or $7 per drop-in class. Season passes do not cover this class for the outside instructor teaching. Classes will be Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 each week, three weeks in July and three weeks in August. They hope you guys enjoy the class It's Monday, so let's start with a good smile on your face, 'cause I know Mondays can be a little difficult to start out with.

In upcoming events, Tuesday, Quincy Valley Shuttle and Tours is [00:05:00] having their second taco tasting tour event. You meet at Lozier Park at 5:30 PM. It's $10 for your seat. You buy your tacos and beverages at each restaurant as they go. Seats are limited to first come, first served. They're gonna pick three random taco places here in town that they have not been to.
They've done this once. They had a lot of fun. Come check out all of our various taco-serving restaurants here in town. It's a pick from the hat, I believe, and they're gonna pick three random restaurants, and they're gonna go have fun and eat some tacos and figure out who has the best tacos in town.
They've already gone through three candidates. Who will it be? Well, you can help find out. Tonight-- Or sorry, Tuesday night, be sure and sign up for that, 5:30 PM. It's $10 for your seat If your kid's starting to drive you crazy 'cause they're feeling the boredom of the summer, or if they actually just enjoy a good challenge, come learn a new sport for ages six to 12 and learn [00:06:00] pickleball.
They use high repetition drills and games to develop confidence and technique with a focus on safety first and using age-appropriate equipment. They got structured warmups and positive environment. Camps run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and runs from June 30th through Ju- uh, July 23rd at Lozier Park.

Pickleball is a great activity, and it gives your kids something to do, not just because they're bored, but because they're actually getting outside and doing something.
Let's get them off their screens. Let's put a pickleball racket in their hands and actually get some kids moving outside. The Quincy Rotary Club is calling all pickleball players, since we're on the subject of pickleball, for the second annual Serve for Service Pickleball Tournament coming up Saturday, August 15th at Lozier Park.
Grab a partner for a day of fun, competition, and [00:07:00] community with doubles play open to all skill levels from-- for players 16 and older. Check-in begins at 8:00 AM, play starts at 9:00, and entry fee is $60 per team. Registration closes August 3rd. The Rotary Club is looking for sponsors to help sup- support the event, and proceeds benefiting local projects, youth programs, and community initiatives right here in Quincy.
You can find registration and sponsorship information on the Quincy Rotary Club Facebook page. She Strong Studio says, "Who's up for a new challenge and a brand-new route?" Join them Saturday, July 18th. Meet at She Strong Studio at 7:30 AM. They'll head out together and their 5K run walk starts at 8:00 AM.
Caffeinated Sips will have drinks available for purchase before and after the run walk, and many, Mini Pancakes will be available for purchase afterward because you've earned a treat after conquering the challenge. This route includes crossing railroad tracks, so this is not an event for kids. Uh, [00:08:00] please keep that in mind.
Sorry, the wording was precisely this event is not kid-friendly, so I don't know if that impacts strollers or what because of the railroad tracks. But I'm sure if you reach out over to the people at She Strong Studio, they can clarify that 'cause I'm making a mess of it. But do note that. I know strollers and backpacks for kids were invited for the last one.
So check in with them, but I don't think this is gonna work that way with the railroad tracks. In church events, 20 twi- 26th summer VBS schedule. It's a new week for VBS. This week you can find Vacation Bible School at the Quincy Free Methodist Church from 5:30 to 7:30, starting today and each day from Friday, each day through Friday at 301 I Street here in Quincy.
Grant County Fire District is seeking dedicated people who want to make a difference in their community. With your commitment, you could be one of the select few who answer the [00:09:00] call when someone's having an emergency. In addition to assisting your neighbors, you'll be helping to keep your family safe, other families safe, and you'll develop job skills that could be valuable in your own workplace.
They're accepting applications for volunteer firefighters, resident firefighters, and support services. They also have a variety of food service openings, bus driver openings, and certificated teaching positions available through their district. Whether you're an experienced professional, an educator, or someone passionate about supporting students and families, we'd love to hear from you.
