Like he just lives there in a in a black shirt and black shorts. And like when you when he's not training me, he just gets plugged in in the back and then he comes. The Patchouli Problem

KristinBut it can. It can be done right for a certain type of person, but it does not belong anywhere near me, you know? In any circumstance.
KellyI actually think I'm allergic to it.
KristinI mean, you could be, but yeah, like patchouli, I don't know where it got that's like, oh, it's calming. No, it makes me want to scratch my nose off.
KellyIt is not the chamomile of sense.
KristinNo, and it doesn't belong everywhere. It doesn't belong anywhere. If you were to give me the power to snap my fingers and thanos something off the face of the earth, it would be the smell of patchouli.
KellyYeah, I don't like patchy, especially when you walk into a store and it's like patchouli stanking, like you just get that wave. I usually immediately just turn around and walk out. Yeah, because it's not for me.
KristinAnd like maybe it's not this way anymore, but patchouli, when we were growing up, always came with the second smell of body odor. Whoever had patchouli on also had Bio. And so I just I just equate patchouli with BO. That's what it is. Wait, is it you go I go or you go?

KellyIf I had to describe your personality in stores, Barnes and Noble and Starbucks. And not because you go to those two stores, but because I feel like they're not, I I wouldn't describe you as a clothing store or like a home store. I feel like you have a lot of interest, you know, like knowledge type things. Let me start over. Barnes. You're like, actually, I don't know you at all. No, they're those two stores, but I it's like your energy level. Is books and coffee? Yeah. Like if I could say independent bookstore with a coffee shop inside.
KristinSo now I'm only one store. Like I just keep wanting to.

KristinThe most me purchase I've ever made. I don't know. It's hard because I'm not a shopper, right? I'm not like a things person. So it's very hard for me. Okay, it's the thing that keeps coming back over and over again that I've thought about, and I still actually have these, is my Doc Martins with the ribbon laces. The Fights That Turn Into Lore

KellyThe one that I keep thinking about was when we like went at it so hard that we like went down the stairs.

KristinI mean, now it is. You know what that one I think of? It's the one where we were driving to the airport. Mom was driving. Yeah, you were remembered. Fighting with whatever. I was in the back seat, you were in the front seat, and you were like punching me from the front seat. Mom's like, knock it off.
KellyThat was when I was wearing all my clothes.
KristinAnd you put on all of your clothes, every single item in her closet, including boots. She was like, I'm leaving. And then you then you left somewhere. You just walked away.
KellyI was running away. I ran away to McDonald's, and then they had to give me a cheeseburger because I didn't have any money.
KristinNo, I thought all you had was a hundred-dollar bill.
KellyAll I had was a hundred dollar bill. Which celebrity would make the best substitute teacher? Dwayne the Rock Johnson. I think he'd be a fun sub like I would I'd take his class for the day. That came out of nowhere, but I totally agree.

Grown Up Purchases And Weird Beliefs
KristinWhat purchase under $100 has had the biggest impact on your life? And again, you can't say animals. I have never paid under $100 for an animal.
KellyMaybe a hamster. We can go up to $500 if you want. I'm trying to think of what this would be. Like an actual like piece of furniture that I bought and thought, like, oh look, I'm a grown-up. I just bought furniture.
KristinThat black couch.
KellyThe black one in our old house.
KristinYou were very proud of that couch when you bought it. You should have been. I'm not, I'm not giving, I'm not throwing shade at the couch. I'm just saying that was the first time that I think you were like, I bought this couch. I bought this couch from like a furniture store, not from like the.
KellySo that wasn't under a hundred dollars, but it was probably like the turning point to oh look, I can purchase a thing. You know what else? The first real mattress I bought myself because I had back pain. And so I took mom to more furniture and I fought with her in more furniture because she was like, You're gonna pay four thousand dollars for a mattress, and I was like, Yes, I can't even stand up in the morning. Yeah, I'm gonna pay for a mattress. And so I fought with mom and then I brought it home, and then I brought beef home the next day, and she peed on it. And then I had to run water at three in the morning through the mattress and stand it up on the wall for three weeks so it would dry off. But that I was so proud of buying my own mattress again, not under a hundred dollars, it was four thousand dollars, but I think it counts.

KellyI just it I felt like a grown-up, like yeah, it's life changing.

KellyLike I think you care way too much about not caring. Oh like I think you care way too much about I have to just not care. It's all fine, it's all fine and like in a people-pleasing way though. Like in a in yourself, like if there's something big, you immediately go to no, it's fine, I don't care. And it seems like because you care so much, you need to not care.
KristinOkay. I mean, I don't think that's wrong, especially like in in the past. You're better now. I am better now. I am, yeah, but I definitely think that I had a aversion to caring about things because I do feel like God made me tough. I had a lot of things that like would not be.
KellyIf the bottom fell out, I'm not saying there's not reasons for it.
KristinNo, no, no. But I don't think that my not caring helped those situations. Like, you know what I mean? Like it wasn't it wasn't a helpful coping mechanism that I and then it leaked into other things, exactly, exactly. Yeah, yeah. No, I I get it, I accept that. It's a good one. I like it.

KellyI feel like, oh wow, you just feel good, like a little tree, yeah, or like the desert after it rains, or like when I walk welly and the the wind is blowing just right and the light is just right, that's a little shady, magic.

KellyYou just wait because when you take the top off that bronco, magic. It's like you're free. It's the best feeling. And I don't even like wind. I'm like scared, like legit scared of wind. And I love the broncos'. The windows are tall enough, yeah. And then you put that little mesh thing on and it diffuses it all, but the it still hits you a little bit. When I listen to Robin hang with me at top volume with my top not my top off, but the Broncos top off. One gets you arrested, the other one just gets you looked at. Your turn.

KellyThat I had in my 30s or 40s?

KellyLike it could be like your 30s to your 40s or your 20s to your 30s, whatever, 20s to 40s. Doesn't matter. What opinion have I changed my mind about? That walls should be colors. I don't believe they should be. Like when mom was talking this morning at breakfast about that lady painting the one wall mauve and I wanted to like puke in my breakfast burrito.

KellyNo, she was mom was on one, but I don't know. I don't think like a wall should be, I don't an accent wall shouldn't. I'm like, it just doesn't, I can't get I agree with you.
KristinI don't believe in accent walls anymore. I think that's a terrible idea. Don't ever do it. But clearly I used to. Yeah, no, I I'm with you on that one. Like, I think a nice neutral tone all over, that's one thing. But like a blue room and an orange room and a red wall.

KristinWhen we painted that whole room pink pink, yeah. And then we did the Tiffany's blue in the kitchen. Yeah. And it was like even when you turned the lights off, it looked like the light was like.

KristinBecause it was so neon. Like it was very aggressive. The pink was very aggressive too, but it was one of those room that nobody stayed in. Yeah. So I think we just shut the door and didn't care. But yeah, no, I I totally agree with you. I'm I'm I'm not about accent walls or color.
KellyBut I used to think that that was great.

KellyNot anymore. No. I hate painting rooms. I hate painting.
KristinOh, it's worse. Because I think it's like one of those tasks where you're like, I could just do it myself. Yeah.
KellyAnd then you're like halfway through two days later and you're dirty, you've forgot paint all over. You have like everything dries out. You have to wash everything out. No, painting's the worst.
KristinIt is. No, it's it's one of those things, it's like moving where you think you can do it yourself. So you're like, why waste money on that? And it's like, no, get movers, get movers, movers, and let them move all of your shit.
KellyI almost killed those firefighter movers. It was like a hundred degrees that day in Seattle, which is hot.
KristinThat is very hot up there.
KellyAnd three-floor walk up, and they ran their asses up and down those stairs. The one guy crumpled onto the side.
KristinOh, you almost killed them just from their from asking them to move you. I thought they had done something, and you almost no, no, no.
KellyThey're great movers. They're yeah, no, they were really good. But they I almost they almost, I think they all thought they were like, we're tough. And I tested that.

Appliances With Big Egos

KristinIt's the biggest ego. See, like I want to say oven because technically you can survive without it. How do you survive without an oven? There's a microwave. There's there's there's food that doesn't need to be cooked. But I also kind of want to say a blender.

They're just stupid. I hate them. It's so true. Like you can have a barbecue. Like, like, think about how much better food is not in an oven. I mean, there's good oven food. Cookies. You can just use a convection oven. I can just I can I actually use a convection oven over.

KristinNo, not a convection oven, like a countertop oven. Like a Breville. Maybe that's why my big aggressive oven irks me so much, is because I have my counter oven that I use for everything because it's better, it's easier, and I can clean it. And I don't need, I don't need this big thing. Just got a big ego for no reason. You could just take them out of houses and no one would notice. Like half of the households in America wouldn't notice that they were missing an oven. And I'm not talking about the top, the stove. Yeah, I'm not talking about the stove, I'm talking about the oven. So very different things. You asked people for my opinion. Okay, but I want to know what do you think is the unsung hero of household appliances? The beverage fridge. Oh, that's a good one.
KellyNot everybody has one, but like I think like if you have one separates your stuff out so nice. If you don't have a beverage fridge, I'm not this is like you know, like first one problem stuff. But if you like having put a beverage fridge in in the remodel, yeah, you separate out all of the food. You separate the beverages from the fruit. Let me answer that again because you feel a little bougie. You feel a little bougie. No, no, it's not the bouginess. I just can't feel like I can articulate the the wait, why I think that way. Because he's kind of like in the corner, you know, like he's in the corner, but he does a lot. He holds the milk, he holds the wine.

KellyYeah, I do, and he's so cute and like compact, but it's like the TARDIS, like you open it up and there's like all this space. Who knew? And then all the beverages are in all the beverages because it's little, it can go exactly where you want it to go. So it goes right by your glasses.

KristinNo, she does it all the time. She thinks it's funny. All right. So our mom is cheap and she won't pay for her own Prime account. So years ago, I gave her my access to mine, which is fine. She doesn't like give me money for it. She just thinks it's like this free thing that she can enjoy. But anyway, she will do this thing where I will save things in the cart. I will save things in my cart. I'm like, oh, here's all the things that I want. She will go in there in the morning and she will delete everything I have in the cart. Is there a save for later? There is. And her stuff gets saved for later because I am considerate. My stuff gets deleted. And then she calls me and goes, I deleted your Amazon cart. Ha.
KellyWhat did, but what if she had to buy? Why doesn't she just say, hey, there's a bunch of stuff in your Amazon cart? Could you also add that? Save it for later.

KellyOff campus made me feel weird and great all at the same time. I love it. I think it's so cute. I'm also a romance reader, though. But it was like, it wasn't just spicy, it was like raunchy.
KristinWell, I mean, I don't know. I mean, they're they're naked, but I think that it's okay now that they're they're not just naked, they're like naked. They're like it's explicit sex scenes. Like yeah, I guess.
KellyIf you had those two dolls, people may call it porn.
KristinNo, no, no, but I I feel like I think the thing that they did very well, I was very surprised at first about how explicit it was, but I think they kept the story very sweet and grounded, and it didn't mind it after that. Like after you get into a couple episodes, it it's you're kind of like, okay, it's not just like Playboy and sex for sex sake. They've developed characters, it's not raunchy because there's the actual story there. Yeah, it there's a reason for the sex, yes, but it is a lot, there's a reason for it, but also like they're not treating it like something that is gross, you know? No, it's it's very just normal, yes, and it doesn't it it's not a gross thing for the characters either. It's not shock value, not shock value, no.
KellyNo, I think it's it's romance novel, it's exactly how the novel probably goes. Yes, it's very Which I'm now actually gonna go read.

Advice We Ignore And Karma Moments
KristinOkay, what's one piece of advice everyone gives that you've completely ignored?
KellyUm the one thing he's popping into my head is if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Say stuff. Maybe stuff like maybe stuff needs to be said. And maybe there's times the stuff doesn't need to be said, but maybe there's times the stuff does need to be said.
KristinI don't think it is necessarily always bad to talk a little trash.
KellyIt's not saying talk trash. I'm saying you weren't nice or you aren't worth my time. Don't be like mean just for mean sake. No, that's not what I'm saying.
KristinBut I think like if you meet somebody that needs to be knocked down a peg, it's okay to not take the high road every single time. That's all I'm saying. It's like sometimes karma puts you in those people's paths so that you can smack them upside their heads, and like it's okay to it's okay to do karma's will. KristinNope. I don't hate it. I don't hate barbecue sauce, but it's not like everyone loved barbecue sauce. It's not my like it I can go without it. Like if you're like, you love barbecue sauce or something else to dip your chicken nuggets in. I'm going something else every single time. But if there's nothing else and you hand me barbecue sauce, I will go ahead. But I also think it's suspicious because there's so many different types. There's hot ones, there's sweet ones, there's vinegary ones. It can't all be the same sauce, you know? Like it should have all of different names. I'm just not a fan.

KellyBecause it's a little bit jelly-like. Where does the jelly like come from? Like, how does the relish how where's the viscosity from? It's pickles, it's chopped up pickles, but they somehow it's a little bit gluey in how it comes together as one full blob of chunk pickles. I think I think it depends on the relish, but yeah, okay. I love relish. I will all kinds of relish, every single kind of relish.
KristinWhat I appreciate about relish is it names it what it is either sweet relish or dill relish. You know what you're getting.
KellyBarbecue sauce also does that. No, it does not. Every single barbecue sauce is a different name. No, yeah, there's there's all kinds of barbecue sauces.
KristinNo, just because it's named sweet baby raise, I don't know. Like, and then like sweet. So you you're you're there. Not necessarily not at the barbecue sauce.
KellyNo, it's like tangy sweet baby rays, and then it's not sweet, you know? It's tangy and sweet, like sweet and sour. I'm just saying, why is sweet sauce?
KristinIs it sour sauce buggy? No, it's not barbecue. It's it's in the name, sweet and sour. It's not like a barbecue-y. Sure, but it's in the name. It's not just barbecue sauce. Like, I just I just feel like any sauce that doesn't have a category, it's like go ahead and put it in a barbecue. Is sweet and sour sauce even sour? Or is it just sweet? No, there's a tang to it.
KellyThere's like a there's like a vinegar, but it's like a quality, like when everyone ate like pale food, that would have been tangy to them. It's not tangy anymore. I mean, I think it depends on the sweet and sauce. Sweet and sour, it's just sort of red sauce, red sticky sauce.
KristinNo, there's normally like a vinegar base to it. There's there's normally like a tasty, yeah.
KellySugar sauce. Sugar chicken. No, that's orange chicken. It's no, it's like it's a sugar chicken, though. But chicken with a sugar. Sugar chicken, but no, that's orange yellow sauce. Maybe not yellow. Red or orange.

Overrated To Own Underrated To Borrow

KristinSorry, overrated to own but underrated to borrow. I mean, what I'm I guess I'm having a hard time with what does underrated to borrow really mean? Does it mean that people don't borrow it often? Or that you don't think that you could borrow it? Because like immediately mine went to car, right? Like it's overrated to own a car. You know, they're expensive. There's a bunch of crap that you gotta fix on them all the time. Like it's but then again, though, you don't really borrow one either, though. Mine went to pickup truck. I'm gonna go with that, even though I'm not a hundred percent sure what underrated to borrow means.
KellyIf you own a pickup truck, then all of a sudden you're helping everybody. But I do think there's a lot of people that own pickup trucks that have no idea what to use them for.
KristinNo, that's why they jack them up. They jack them up and it's like you couldn't even get a trailer on the back of that. Yeah, it'd be like slanted, like like the front wheels wouldn't even touch the ground on the trailer, but then they have to crawl into that. Yeah. Okay. I'm gonna I'm gonna go with that one then. KellyI feel like you've walked in somewhere and then just walked out without an explanation and like just left. But I can see it in my head, but I can't remember the exact circumstance. It feels like not too long. It feels like every every interaction I've ever had. You walked in and in your head you go, nope, and then you just leave and you didn't say anything to anybody, you just go. And it can be it can be you you've left the building, or it can be you walked into the store and you just decided no, and you turned around and left, and then no one can find you. Maybe you're in another store, maybe you're not.
KristinI mean, like it's very on brand. I mean, I I couldn't, I don't know if I could even pinpoint one time that I've done that. It just feels like a thing that I do.

The Throw Pillow Manifesto
KellyYeah. Give me your hottest take on decorative pillows.
KristinDon't know why you open this can of worms. My hottest take on decorative pillows is that there was a um, well, there was a guy who sold me a couch once who would not let me pick my own decorative pillows, even though that was part of the experience. And he kept telling me they're not that important. And I was like, I don't care. I think it's important. I want to pick my pillows. It was at that place in um, do you remember the place in Snowhomish that we bought the first Oh McDonald's or something like that? Yeah, it wasn't McDonald's, it was like Kelvin's furniture or whatever, like whatever it was. But um, it was a smaller furniture store. But I went in there and it was it was kind of like what you were talking about earlier. It was like my first couch. It was the first couch I was buying with my own money. It's like a big deal. And I was like, what's all this fabric? Like, what's this this book of fabric that's sitting on a leather couch? And he was like, Oh, that's just for the throw pillows, it doesn't matter. And I was like, What do you mean? And he was like, Well, you can like you can like choose your throw pillows, and I was like, Well, I want to do, I want to do that. Like, let's let's do that. And he was like, They're just pillows, you're not gonna care. But what was he gonna just write something down? Yeah, I guess maybe like get the pillows that were like that were on the show. But he has to write a number down anyway. Why can't it be the number you want? You could tell he hated life. He was probably divorced at least once or twice. You're putting a lot of I do not like this man. He but he took something that was special to me. Like, I had to fight him. Did you pick your pillows? Yes, but I had to like fight for them. And I I picked some wonderful, like one was like a blue and cream chevron pillow, and the other one was like a um kind of like multicolored fabric, but it had like an orange, like a burnt orange undertone to it. They were beautiful, but he had to write now. I know, yeah, but no, he and he he literally argued with me longer than it longer than the time it took me to actually pick out the pillows I want. He did not want to show me the throw pillow things.

KristinI I don't know. This and this is this is where we get to the point of like he has a backstory in my mind that's just sad, you know? Just a sad man who tried to keep me from my pillow picking journey. And I loved those pillows. And you know what? Out of spite, like I hung on to those pillows longer than I had the couch for. I know that I'm not supposed to care about things, but I cared about that one thing. I wanted it, and I was gonna get it. I was gonna pick my own pillows, and he was like, you don't need to. So, like those things you fight for. Yeah, I've I will go to the mat for pillows, for for throw pillows. I will go to the mat. I will, and even honestly, even to this day, even like like I have these, I have these pillows that I put on the bed whenever we're gonna show the house. And Dal didn't put them out once. And I got mad, I got angry. I got angry that he kept the throw pillows in the closet. I was like, these need to go out there because it looks put together. This is how you look like a person who's put together. You know, people who aren't put together, but they don't have throw pillows. Go to the bathroom.

KristinPlastic hangers, you would have got the I don't care. Yeah, you would have got I don't care. You went throw pillows and like I have thoughts. I have thoughts and feelings, and like don't keep me from my throw pillows, don't do it. I don't want, I don't want them. I want them. They make me feel better about what you don't even have any throw pillows in your house. Well, not they're coming out slowly again after the years of puppy. I would not let the puppies get my throw pillows.

KristinYeah, normally I do as well, but not with the puppies. But now, because I couldn't, I couldn't handle them tearing them up. They like chewed the they chewed the the cabinets. They chewed they actually even chewed the um there's one uh dining room table chair that could no longer be sit in. Yeah, you I wouldn't sit in that chair if I was anybody who cared about my life. And I don't really care about that. I don't really care about any of those things. But my throw pillows, I don't know if I could handle my throw pillows all over the place. It would, it would really be sad. It would be a sad day for me.
