Running to the Comforter — Inspired by Dr. Laurette Wills

When you hear the question, “What’s the most fun way to exercise?” your mind might go to dancing, sports, or a walk with friends. And those are all wonderful.

But what if the most fun—and most transformative—way to exercise is something deeper?

What if it’s worship?

When Exercise Becomes Worship

According to Dr. Laurette Wills, exercise doesn’t have to be separate from your spiritual life. In fact, it can become one of the most powerful expressions of it.

Through PraiseMoves, she introduces a refreshing idea: combining physical movement with Scripture and praise. Instead of just counting reps or calories, you engage your whole being—body, mind, and spirit.

Suddenly, exercise is no longer a chore.

It becomes joyful, meaningful, and deeply refreshing.

And that’s where the “fun” begins.

Why Most Exercise Doesn’t Last

Let’s be honest—many people struggle to stay consistent with exercise.

Why?

Because it often feels like:

Pressure instead of pleasure

Obligation instead of inspiration

Routine instead of relationship

But when movement becomes an act of worship, everything shifts. You’re no longer just trying to stay fit—you’re connecting with God.

That connection brings joy. And joy makes consistency natural.

Running to the Comforter (Not Comfort Food)

One of the most practical insights Dr. Wills shares is this:

Many times we run to comfort food instead of running to the Comforter.

This applies not only to eating habits, but also to stress, anger, and emotional struggles. When pressure rises, we tend to look for quick relief.

But there’s a better way.

Instead of reacting impulsively, you can:

Pause

Turn to God

Engage with His Word

Move your body in praise

This simple shift transforms cravings into opportunities for connection.

A Fun and Powerful Technique

Imagine this scenario:

You feel a craving—food, frustration, or even anger rising.

Instead of giving in immediately:

You take a moment to breathe

You recall a Scripture

You stretch, move, or hold a posture of praise

You focus your mind on God

This is where tools like Christian Meditation Kit come in—helping you anchor your thoughts in truth while your body participates in worship.

What seemed like a moment of weakness becomes a moment of strength.

And surprisingly… it becomes enjoyable.

The Biblical Foundation

The Bible reminds us:

“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable for me...”

— 1 Corinthians 6:12

Fun, in the truest sense, is not just about what feels good in the moment—it’s about what builds you up.

When your exercise strengthens both your body and your spirit, that’s a deeper kind of joy. That’s lasting fulfillment.

When God’s Power Takes Over

Here’s the beautiful outcome of this approach:

You’re no longer relying on willpower alone.

As you engage with God’s Word and presence, His power begins to rise within you. The struggle lessens. The craving weakens. The burden lifts.

You’re not just exercising—you’re being transformed.

Here in the 40 Days of Reconciliation podcast, we are hosting Dr. Rorette. And she's a passionate daughter of Christ, the founder of Praise Moves. Soon I'm going to ask her to tell us how people can join Praise Moves. Can people start this in their country? But I want you, as you listen to her, as she's speaking to us, is the Lord is giving you this opportunity to also revive your faith in Him. And thank you, Dr. Ritt. Before we continue, would you like to tell us about uh praise moves and how can people get into praise moves and learn and put it in practice in their own countries?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, absolutely. Well, I'd say the first step would be to go to praisemoves.com, and it's just like what it sounds like, you know, and probably also in the show notes. Moves.com. And I love saying, remember, praise moves God deeply. So keep praising the Lord. And it's these moves of praise transforming our workouts into worship because of the word of God being on the inside of us and speaking out the word of God. You can find free workshops there, free workouts as well that are recorded. And then you can also look to see, wow, I wonder if there's anyone in my country. And if not, the Lord may be calling you to be an instructor. And you can look under training, and there are some, you know, videos and you'll learn a lot about wow, I can actually train to be an instructor, a fitness minister online. Yes, we have women and men, ages 18 to our fitness ministers all over the world. And I even have a free gift for you, too. So if you're someone that says, Well, you know, you mentioned something earlier about losing weight or something like that, I would like to know about that. I have a free gift, it's called Christian Weight Loss Kit. And in it, I have a great exercise for you. And if we have a few moments before we close today, it is a bilateral brain stimulation technique with the word of God that cuts cravings in 10 to 15 seconds. And I'll show you how to do that. Now, if you say, Well, I don't know, I don't have to worry about weight or anything, but how do you meditate on the word of God? I've heard about meditation, but I don't want to do that empty your mind stuff. No, that's not what we do. I invite you to go to Christian Meditationkit.com and you will learn how to meditate on the Word of God in three simple steps. Now, Brother Emmanuel, do we have time to show that quick exercise that helps you cut cravings in 10 to 15 seconds? Yes. Okay. All right, let's do it. I'm excited. Yes, sir. All right. Now, all you need is a pen or a key or a stone or just something small in your hand. Now, again, if you are driving, don't try to do this exercise now, but come back later for it. I want you to think of, now we're going to talk about from food, although it works for other cravings as well. But let's say there's a certain food that you always go to when you're craving something. And it's not because you're hungry. For me, it would be like, oh, I'd be working on something. It's like, oh, I want a snack and I just wanted to get away. So think of that food and you know exactly where it is. Maybe it's in the refrigerator or the freezer or the cupboard or the pantry, the drawer. You know where that food is. And maybe you're even, you know, getting a little excited about it, thinking about it, because that's where the chemicals are released in the anticipation of it. But don't worry, we're gonna cut it right now. Act as if you're going for that food, that comfort food. See, that's the problem with us who gain weight. Many times we go to the comfort food instead of to the comforter, the Holy Spirit. And so this is what we learn how to do instead. So see yourself reaching for that food. Do you have it? Do you know what it is? You have it in your your head, you're not actually doing it physically, but you're seeing yourself do it. Okay, you're reaching for it. Now take that pen or whatever it is in your hand and bring it from one hand to the other. One hand to the other, one hand to the other, five, four, three, two, one, and repeat after me. All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. First Corinthians six, twelve. Okay. Where's the craving, Brother Emmanuel? Did your craving go away?

SPEAKER_00

Well, that could work when we're fasting, and the mind says go ahead and take something.

SPEAKER_01

You can, you absolutely can. So getting that word of God and that first Corinthians six twelve is so powerful. You can use that for for any any craving. You can use that for, like, let's say maybe you're someone who well, maybe explodes in anger sometimes. Maybe that happens, or maybe you find yourself, oh, I just have to, I have to have to scroll on Facebook, on my phone, or you know, something like that. And it's like, you know what? All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. First Corinthians 6 12, that's the New King James Version. When you're saying it, you can't just think it, you have to say it. The power of God rises up on the inside of you through the word of God, and you can put that thing back, and it gives you that fullness and peace that you were really looking for.

SPEAKER_00

Praise the Lord. Thank you. Well, I I wanted to ask you to leave us with one tip, and that is one golden tip. Yeah, and I'm sure there is a lot to learn from your website, from you, and from your website. And I know that God has actually transformed you so mightly. So these questions I'm asking you, they may not be a personal, but somebody out there is going to be helped. So I have the next personal question. It says, Have you ever had a situation in life that made you think God doesn't care anymore? And you felt like you felt alone about it.

SPEAKER_01

I actually haven't. I know that maybe that sounds odd, and I really haven't. I have not.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, and that is where now we would like you to share with us your walk with Christ. What are those moments that have helped you grasp the knowledge about him much better? You are so profound in the knowledge of Christ. What has helped you achieve that?

SPEAKER_01

When I was a practicing alcoholic before Jesus saved me, and I lived in New York City, and I was a I was an actor, I was a comedian, I did improvisational comedy, laughing on the outside, but empty on the inside. And I drank every day, really every day, from ages 13 till I was 29. And uh I had I had blackouts running through New York City. You know, when someone has that, I believe their body is inhabited by a demon when that happens, you know? Because I didn't know the Lord, right? I was in the new age, I was a psychic, I was a channel, which means allowing demonic spirits to speak through me. I mean stuff like that, but I and I thought I was serving God. I was so deceived. The enemy has studied us for a long, long time. He's evil, but he's not stupid. He knows what works. And one of the most profound things that he does with people is make them think that he's not even there. And he deceives people that way. I would say that one of the most profound things that really changed my life. Four years after I got saved, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in other tongues. And suddenly the word of God just exploded on the inside of me. It was like this is what I've been looking for my whole life. I had studied so many things. I'd spent thousands of dollars. I traveled around to countries all over the world, so-called sacred sites, looking for God in all the wrong places. But it's through his word. I love the word of God. Jesus is the word of God. John 1.1 and 1.14 and Revelation 19, 13. If you're taking notes, see it for yourself. Just know that the Lord loves you so very, very much that he gave himself for you. Being saved is so that you can have God Himself living on the inside of you through His Holy Spirit. That is how you know you are truly born again.

SPEAKER_00

Amen. Hallelujah. And that brings us to the end of this episode. Please come next time. Dr. Red will be talking to us in the next episode.
