You don’t need a fancy venue to throw a memorable celebration, you need a space that feels like yours. We’re talking all things private parties at Painting with a Twist: what makes them different from a public paint and sip class, how much you can customize, and how we help you turn “I’m planning something” into a smooth, fun event your guests will actually talk about afterward.

We walk through the moments that matter for real planning, like arriving early to decorate, bringing your own food and drinks, and choosing a painting that fits your group. You’ll hear what we see most often in our studios across Jensen Beach, Orlando, Lake Mary, and Clermont, especially birthday parties and corporate team building events. We also share some of the most surprising requests we’ve gotten, from quirky catering to creative setups that split one party into two different paintings at the same time.

If you’re wondering about group size, private rooms, or hosting an off-site painting event at your own location, we cover that too, along with drink options like BYOB and arranging custom cocktails in advance. We also explain the easiest way to book online, what details to include in your request, and why a “paint your pet” party could be the perfect twist for animal lovers. Subscribe for more tips, share this with your favorite planner, and leave a review with the kind of party you want to host next.

Why Book A Private Party

SPEAKER_01

Whether you are celebrating team building or just gathering your favorite people, there's a way to make the studio your own. Welcome everyone. I'm Julie Schwenzer, co-host and producer with Shelby Rocker, the communications manager at Painting with a Twist. Shelby, it's so great to chat with you. Thanks for your time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no problem. It's great

Decorating Food And Games Allowed

SPEAKER_02

to chat with you, Julie. I'm really excited about today's topics.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this is so fun. I love what you're doing for people. And you have a very cool name, by the way. So I love that too. Thank you. So yeah, if you could just take us into today's topic, is do you do private parties and just expand on what that, you know, what those experiences are like?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, no problem. Uh we have our public events and that's like our main attraction. But I think it'd be obvious, like you want to have a painting class all to yourself sometimes. Birthday parties, bridal showers, or just like family gatherings, or even business events. We can have you uh sign up and get your own private room with us. And the advantages of that versus just booking a public class, you can come in 30 minutes before your class starts and you can set up decorations. We even have tables that we can put cloths on that you can bring food, drinks, even games. We've had people with uh children's birthday parties do like catch the balloon game. So we want to make sure that this space feels like yours. And we work with uh the party planner to uh pick a painting that works. We have over, oh, I want to say like 10,000 different painting options, which we can narrow down for you. You can give us a rough idea of like, hey, what do you like? Like, do you want flowers or like trees? And then we can send you a much narrower list for you to pick from.

Top Occasions We Host

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's fantastic. And when someone books a private party, most frequently, what kind of occasions do you guys see at the studio?

SPEAKER_02

Um, birthday parties, I think, are the number one. It's a really unique uh memory because you can have the cake there, you can open the presents and inviting friends over to a public event, you just send them the address and head over. I would say our second most popular is corporate parties, uh, or just like uh team building exercises, which when I first started working there, I thought that those weren't gonna be as frequent, but we're more than happy to even set up a TV if you want to have a slideshow for your company, you know, like uh just like things to look forward to for the next quarter, stuff like that. And yeah, we're very accommodating for whatever kind of party you want to throw.

SPEAKER_01

And I know that you were a teacher before they're like active in person, and you say you still do

Custom Requests We Can Handle

SPEAKER_01

some things remotely. Do you handle any of the private parties remotely?

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, I answer emails and lots of questions. We've had people say, Hey, could I do a blacklight birthday party? And I'll answer that email. Uh, could I have my party start an hour earlier for extra mingling time? And yeah, we can do that. Just pretty much any questions we have uh with private parties. We want to be as accommodating as possible. Like make this your event.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it sounds like you make it super customizable, which is really great. I mean, it sounds so much fun.

Wild Party Stories From The Studio

SPEAKER_01

Um, what are some of the maybe the funniest or most outlandish requests you've ever had?

SPEAKER_02

Um, we had one party, I think it was a family of four who wanted to buy enough seats to handle the whole private party. And for their catering, they got McDonald's breakfast. And I hadn't eaten that morning. So when I came in, I was the happiest I could be because they said help yourself. So I was eating my McDonald's and I said, All right, let's paint. And I was able to give everybody this like set uh instructions. I think that was one of my favorites. We've had an outlandish request. Uh oh, what was it? I think it was a combo bridal and uh groom shower. So they had all the grooms on one side doing one painting and all the uh bridesmaid on the other side doing a different painting. And the way we do that is our sets where uh I would be up on stage painting both of them at the same time and making sure everyone was following along. I think that one was really fun.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, that sounds amazing. Do you miss being there in

Why We Love Kids Classes

SPEAKER_01

person for a lot of the events? And I'm sure you were fantastic.

SPEAKER_02

That's definitely what I miss. I love the children's classes because before uh I worked at painting with a twist, I used to be a kids' art teacher. And I definitely had some limits there because it's very uh set with a schedule. But with the classes, I encourage like creativity and I love seeing little kids say, Can I paint this flower purple instead of orange? And I go, Yes, I will go get you that paint right now.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's yeah, that's so sweet.

Group Sizes And Off Site Events

SPEAKER_01

I love that. And then what about the groups? Like, what kind of range of number um can you guys service for a private party?

SPEAKER_02

Um, usually we can handle at the most uh 40 with our uh main room. We also have a smaller private party room that can handle about 30. If you have a bigger event, we do off-sites uh where you can have us come to your location where we will set up the painting thing. And pretty much those numbers are unlimited as long as you have the space wherever you're having the event.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and we we talked about some of like the you know, the different occasions and some that stood out

Choosing The Right Painting

SPEAKER_01

to you. What about um the subject or the the work that they chose? Anything like that was really interesting or that surprised you that people wanted to paint?

SPEAKER_02

Um, we had uh one uh group of bridals paint, like we have uh this painting of like a topless guy with a towel wrapped around him. That was definitely an interesting one to paint. Uh lots of kid parties they'll try to request their favorite animal, which I love sending the kids. Like, we have so many paintings like elephants, uh, we have cats were pretty standard dogs. I'm trying to think of one of the most unique ones. We had a kid who wanted a like a lizard uh anything kind of reptile, which that one was a little bit harder to find, but we eventually did find a painting that they just fell in love with.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's really fun.

Bringing Drinks And Custom Cocktails

SPEAKER_01

And I know we have, of course, there's you know, painting and painting with a twist. So what can people do if they want to have like their own like special cocktail or they want to bring a bartender in? How do you guys, you know, work with that?

SPEAKER_02

Um, we are encouraged people to, you know, could they can bring their own drinks or they could let us know in advance what kind of cocktails they're looking for, and we'll be able to start our bar with some of those exclusive drinks for their party. Running back to we want to be as customizable as possible with our private parties.

How Booking Works Step By Step

SPEAKER_01

And then can you walk us through just like what somebody has to do to book with you? Um, do they need to go to your site and start from there? Do they call either way?

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, either way, I think the best way to do it is to go on our site and pick our locations. We've got Stuart, Orlando, Lake Mary, Clement. And when you go to the private party, you can click book a party. And you can even commit and not do the three-seat deposit yet. You can just send in a request with the party name, how many people you're expecting, what's it about, and then we can email back to you saying, okay, this is what your event will look like. This is how much it'll cost per person. And once we get through that in the three-seat deposit, we send them the list of paintings. They get to choose through all of that, and it's just like a walk in a park till your event.

SPEAKER_01

Do you have a lot of clients that maybe they first tried your public class and then they, you know, just to see what it was like, and then they, you know, immediately said, okay, now I gotta do my own event?

SPEAKER_02

Oh,

From Public Class To Private Party

SPEAKER_02

yeah, a lot of them. We like to advertise our private parties when we do our public class, especially when people are like, oh my gosh, my family would love this. Uh, we have a birthday party coming up. That's an immediate, like, hey, did you know you could book this room just for you and your family?

SPEAKER_01

And I

Paint Your Pet Party Idea

SPEAKER_01

do have to ask about pets. Um, do you have that as this? And I know you you have a cat, and your cat sounds adorable, a tuxedo cat. So have you painted your cat? I have to ask.

SPEAKER_02

And then um, I we do have paint your pet options available. So I could totally see uh painting your pet as a private party. I don't know if we've ever done that before, but I would be more than happy to set that up for somebody because it would be so easy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that would be fun. And I mean, oh my gosh, do we love pictures of our pets? And to make our own.

SPEAKER_02

Invite people over and be like, look what I painted.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, exactly. Exactly. Um, so I mean, I want to thank you so much, LB, for like walking us through the private events, and it sounds great. I wish you were closer to us. So well, thank you again for your time, and I look forward to the next episode with you.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you so much. It was wonderful talking with you.

SPEAKER_01

You as well.
