Like always, hard to get those guys together because one of them lives so far away, and then Jeremy, he's on call every other weekend. Talk about a little high school basketball tonight. So where me and my other co-host Tim here we went to high school, our girls got beat in their first round of their sectionals and uh really looked kind of bad in that game. They tried, but they look looked uh you know, kind of bad a little bit there. Really, Gibson Southern really didn't have an outside shooter like they've had in the past years for the girls' side. What do you think?

I think you're exactly right. No outside shooting. No, in that game in particular, of course it's been a few weeks ago, there was no sense of urgency whatsoever. Uh yeah, I mean they didn't, you know, they got behind, and it was the same offense that they were running at those 20 points up. But you know, when you got down in the last three or four minutes, there was no they weren't shooting the ball. No emergency, they're just passing it, and nobody was looking for the shot. And yeah. It was their doom.

Yeah, and it seems like the boys, because that it's it's kind of a fresh game because we just watched it several nights ago, and uh they just got outphysicaled by uh the team called Jasper, just outphysical at every every position, and we were bigger, if not the same size at every position in that game, and they were freaking soft. There was no no intensity, and you know, I don't know, they didn't have very many open looks because you know the other team, hell, they were right up in their face the whole night.

You know, Gift Sutter had three calls that you know it didn't, it didn't really cost them the game, but three pretty bad calls that they just didn't mentally recover from.

Silly shots, taking yeah, taking 35-foot three-pointers and not, you know, just not defensively didn't play very well, left their shooters open all night, the second half. Uh so yeah, there was some sus in my opinion, suspect defense. Yeah. Uh but you know, you live and die by the three-pointer, and when they're on, they're on. When they're not, it's not a very good night.

So Andy know they just they you know they shot free throws a little bit better, but you know, missed some when cruising.

I I I thought in the first half, especially the first quarter, they went in and they were they were getting the ball inside a little bit better. They were taking advantage of their height difference from the second quarter on, they just didn't, it just seemed like they just abandoned it and didn't try to do it.

Uh so you think uh got a question to ask you. You know my opinion on it, because I've said it all the time. Just want to kind of hear yours on there. Uh seems like either coast, the boys or the girls, they know how to adjust when they uh hit a little adversary.

I don't know. It's kind of hard to say they don't because we're not in the huddle. Yeah. We don't know what they're telling them. Uh I I there's been games where I thought he's adjusted well, but then there's been games that again, he may be trying to get it to adjust, and they're just not doing it. They're not doing it, yeah. You know, or whatever. But uh there's been there were two or three games this year. I thought, you know, we didn't play well the first half, and second half he made some adjustments, and yeah, and they started playing better. But uh yeah, I don't know. I don't want to come out and say don't know how to don't know what he's doing. Um don't know how to do adjustments because I again we're not in a huddle, don't know what's going on. So to God he's got coaches on the staff that you know they're helping out, and we know a few of them, so um that's my opinion on it. I think he does make adjustments, but you know, you know, they're 16, 15, 16, 17-year-old kids, and sometimes they don't get the message across real well.

So yeah, and they were you know, they were uh the boys were uh, you know, the girls, like I said, they were lacking an outside, I mean a legit out outside shooter like they had when they won their state championship. They had a girl that just didn't miss. When it came crunch time, she was money almost all the time, you know. And they've not had anything like that in a couple of years. They got that big 6'3 girl in her middle. That's the best three-point shooter they got, the best three-point shooter they got, and she was lighting it up. You know, the boys great outside shooters, but man, it seems like they need to go inside outside to kind of open that up.

And they're streaky. The the boys' guys are streaky. They're again, like I said a while ago, they're either on or they're off. Yeah, there's no in-between. Yeah, uh Schmidt played pretty decent uh uh runy. I I just he struggled, but I I thought the kid was put on defense that was in his face all night long, couldn't get a shot off, so that had a lot to do with the defense. So you know, I I thought uh Jasper played a little bit more aggressive, especially defensively. Oh yeah.

You know in the fourth quarter, you know, you you leave their you leave their shooters open three times down the floor, and then you know, boom, there you are, you're down six, eight points and trying to trying to come back, trying to come back.

You gotta foul them, you know, let them shoot free throws and they didn't miss. They didn't miss all night, so yeah. So so it is, you know, gets the southern one and done. Uh this, you know, they this was a uh rare year for that.

Rare year. Normally they don't do I mean the boys more than the girls, but the girls are always usually in the championship game, or you know, they've won they've won what three regionals in a row up until this year, so you know.

Yeah, well, a state championship, a semi-state, yeah, and three regionals. Yeah, so they they've got three sectionals, so yeah. They might be good next year, too. We'll see. They'll be back next year. Uh the boys will be even better next year than they were this year. I mean, they lose lose their point guard and they lose, you know, a guard that came off the bench that gave them a little energy, you know. He was he was uh most athletic kid on team. Athletic team, but then they, you know, I think losing the Keister boy hurt him. I mean, that's uh that's a that's a rebounder, good defender, kid can jump out of the gym. Uh I'm assuming he, I don't remember. Was he a senior? Yes. Yeah, so that that hurt. Of course, his brother, he's got a brother coming up, about the same size, not as thick, but he can jump too, so coming up, so a lot of talent coming up for the boys.

Uh girls, you know, they don't lose anything really. I mean, they lost Spindler girl, but uh I think she was the only starter, wasn't she? The two loose. Yeah, Molly. She was a good defensive player, but she couldn't. But yeah, they they've got some talent. Coming up, and they go back down to 3A, so that that'll help. Yeah. Not that it, you know, in years past they would have drummed 4A schools, but and they did last year too. But you know, it was an off year.

Just ran into the state championship team last year up there at semi-state.

Yeah. Uh this year should have probably should have won the game, but didn't, so you know, neither here nor there.

They played a lot better against Wrights than they did in this sectional game than they did in the first game. First game, they got blitzed. Of course, when you when you shoot like 80% from the field, like Wrights did that first game, it's hard to beat any team.

Helps a whole bunch. So I know we had because you know, we had baseball practice Wednesday. Uh coach didn't say too much. The baseball coach didn't really say too much. He kind of let me run the show a little bit and wait, and we talked a little bit about it after uh lipping weights. About mental toughness. But then he really jumped our ass Friday morning and said he was pissed after again because he sat behind the students there Tuesday, and he kind of made the same comment that I made when we were sitting there and said they weren't they they were they were quiet. Yeah, you know, they of course, you know, Jasper had double the amount of students there than we did, but because they were a lot closer. But yeah, they were quiet, and he just kind of went over the the mental toughness like I did a couple days before, but you can't let a a referee or an umpire dictate the game. You know, they're gonna be bad calls, and if you you dwell on them, you're done. You gotta let them bad calls go. Uh gonna switch gears here to uh uh uh NFL, which you know you knew you know more about the NFL than I do, just because you're a you know old football coach. So I seen where Max Crosby signed with uh uh Baltimore. Scary.

If you're if you're in if you're in the AFC North, yeah. The quarterback, uh I would be getting uh my left tackle or right tackle, or if it depends on what which way you throw the ball, left or right-handed. Yeah. Uh head on a swivel. You know, Baltimore's always got a good defense anyway, so that just makes them a whole lot better. Um if I make Aaron Rodgers think about not coming back and then.

Pat he'll go on a Pat McAfee show and talk about different stuff. But damn Joey Bosa's a free agent. Yeah, there's a big pickup somebody with peace.

Do you think that so speaking of that, do you think that uh because it seems like we had four, five, six, seven years in the NFL where you had these little bitty, and I'm gonna call them little because I'm 6'7, 260, 270. And you know, I can remember the days in the NFL, your quarterbacks were 6'5, 240 pounds. And kind of it looked like the NFL kind of went away from that for several years, where they had your quarterbacks were 5'9, 5'10, and you know, 180 pounds. And you think that's gonna change where they're gonna go back?

Just go back. You're they're not they're you know, those those guys were okay for a while, but yeah they they just can't sustain the hits. You know, you look at Tua, you look at you look at him, uh they you know they're they just can't take hits, they're just not a lot there.

Uh but look at all the quarterbacks that have had success this year. The guy from uh Chicago, Caleb Williams, he's got what 6'3, 6'4, yeah, at least 225, 230 pounds. All bigger guys. The kid from Washington, he got hurt, but he came back. Yeah, you know, he could he was an Ohio State quarterback, wasn't he? Wasn't it Washington?

I think you'll be seeing them go back to the more conventional type quarterbacks here for a long because it's it's heading that direction. Herbert is that kind of kid, and Darnold's, you know, once he got got away from New York and got a decent offensive line around him, you know, you've seen what he how he played, he wants to revolt. So yeah, I just think they're gonna go they're gonna go back to that more conventional. Not that these guys can't play because they can. Kyler Murray's had some moments.

Now, I as far as the general management coach goes, I I like what I heard. I listened to him, I sit and listen to an interview the other day. He's talking about trying to build the team from the inside out, which means work on the offense and defensive lines, get them structurally sound, and then work on the skill guys, which is probably what needs to be done to begin with. Now, they're Green Bay people, so that's what they do. So we'll see. I don't think we're gonna be big on in the free agency thing.

If you haven't, then okay, you you he'd be a good backup. So yeah, I I think I don't I don't know they will or not, because again, I'm not I've not heard him talk about quarterback much, so but I think they could I think I would at least give him a shot. Yeah. He he did enough in the three games I seen him play that he heard earned a chance to to start.

Yep, two will be gone. So they're gonna need a quarterback, receiver, linebackers, safety corners. You know, it's gonna be a total rebuild. So it's not ideal that you don't have a whole bunch of money because they're gonna have about 99 million tied up into two for the next year and a half, two years. Um so that's not that's not good, but you know, I don't know. I've seen teams come from nowhere to win divisions and stuff like that before.

So yeah, New England done it this year. Yeah, so they were what two and sixteen or four and fourteen last year and end up going what fourteen or sixteen and two or something like that, going to the Super Bowl with uh what second year quarterback to spent more time on his back than he did in the pocket. Well, Baltimore did that for for a couple of years where they had a quarterback that you know just said keep us in the game and the defense will win it for you. And uh somebody else, oh Seattle's kind of like that for a little, I think, wasn't they a little bit for with uh I can't think of the quarterback's name where they said just don't make mistakes and let the defense win the game for us. Yeah, which it did. Russell Wilson. Yeah. So yeah.

Russ could play a little bit too. He was he could he could he was a good quarterback. He could throw BBs, so but yeah, I don't know. There's uh my take on Miami, it's gonna be a bad year for them, but because they're gonna they are so scrapped for cash, and they don't have a whole lot of draft picks. They got one one, one, two, three threes, a four, I don't think any fives, and a couple sixes. So all this year? Yeah, so that's you know some good picks.

I mean, you never know. Not a whole lot of picks. There could be some diamonds in the rough out there in the third, fourth round. You never know. So look what happened with Tom Brady. You know, he was uh you know he was a good quarter, good college quarterback, but you know, didn't I don't know that in your just honest opinion, did you ever think he'd be what they what a lot of people classify as the goat? No, I didn't. I mean it it took an injury. If it took an injury, he would never be in the game. He probably wouldn't have played much, so just sometimes that's the way it happened. Kirk Warner, you know, it just with uh you know he's bagging groceries and goes for a tryout with the Rams. You just gotta be in the right place at the right time. Yep, yeah, so and he ends up winning the Super Bowl and going to two more, I think it was. Probably should have won that one in Arizona, but damn Antonio Brown for the Steelers just made an unbelievable catch in the end zone. Yeah. So then he turned into a fucking basket case. Yeah. So yeah. Uh yeah, I hope they do good this year. You know, my Chiefs, I hope they, you know, they big injury to their quarterback Pat Mahomes last year. But ACL, so we'll see what happens. They're not uh, you know, the I think the days of the Chiefs dominating the AFC are over. Oh yeah, there's too many good teams now. Yeah, unless they can rebuild. Lender's too old, you know. Who knows if Kelsey's gonna retire or come back? And how Pat Mahomes is gonna recover from that injury. You know, he is not 25 anymore.

So you know it is what it is. You've been watching any of the base world baseball classic? No, I've seen some of it. Not a whole lot. Yeah, it looked pretty good.

Puerto Rico's gonna be good, Cuba's good. Of course, probably the I don't know if Japan's it's just kind of hard because you know USA's got a lot of good players on there. And so does Puerto Rico and the Dominican and Yeah, so we'll see how see how they do. So I kind of hope the USA wins it, but we'll see what happens. Like I said, Dominican Republic usually the or Japan, you know, show hey. He's not pitching though in the world baseball classic, he's hitting only.
