Open golf championship controversy , penalty on Dechambeau hole 5
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Dechambeau 2 stroke penalty, was it fair. Would it have been called on Scheffler or McElroy or any other PGA player.
All right, four clueless dudes here. Uh just two of us here today. And a dog. And a dog. My daughter's dog. They went to uh Nashville, both of them, and my wife and some friends. My youngest one's getting married a couple months, so they had to have a bachelorette party down in Nashville. So I got stuck watching this damn dog. He's a good dog. But anyway, today we're gonna talk about the Bryson DeChambeau issue at the uh Yopen Championship. What's your thoughts on that two-stroke penalty you got? Well, I can see it both ways. It did look bad when he went in there and started trampling around on it. But you know, you have to get behind the ball and line up your shot. So I don't know how you're not supposed to step on any grass. The Marshalls had to get in there to find the ball. I'm sure they didn't trample down any grass. But when I when you watch the video, it really wasn't conclusive, but it did look like the patch that he trampled down did not affect his backswing at all because it looked like the kind of shot he played, he swung from the outside in. Yeah. So I don't that's what he was trying to explain to them when they went back out there, I believe. Because you kept showing in, he kept and going on coming from the outside in. But I mean, like I said, I can see where they would do it. It did look bad. But then again, are you gonna call that on some other golfers if they were in that situation? I don't think they would have. You think they would have called it on a Rory or Scotty Scheffler or anybody like that? No, not at all. If they were, you know, like a shot behind the lead, you don't know.
unknownYeah, no, I don't think they would have.
SPEAKER_00Uh the US Open, Wendham Clark did the exact same thing, only it was even worse. Yeah. And they didn't call them anything. Of course, that's different rules. The RA is different from the USGA. So but you could tell there's an old, whoever that old guy was, that was the rules guy. He he seemed like he was one of those old square guys. Oh, what I say goes. Yeah, he also came out and said it wasn't intentional, so you know, just kind of stay faced a little bit to give him that two-stroke penalty. So they were talking about they were in the they were in that office for a long time, and I think that was probably something that they came up with where Bryson said, Well, you go out there and you tell them I didn't do it intentionally. Yeah, yeah. And then, you know, I wonder if he really said that, well, if they give me the two-stroke penalty, I won't play tomorrow. I wanna well I wonder if he said that or somebody just started saying that shit. I saw another YouTube video, I think it was Trey Wingo has a site now where he does Yeah. And he was showing an up close view, and you could read his lips. It looked like he said, Well, I'm not gonna accept it, you'll just have to DQ me. Yeah. Okay, so that didn't mean he wasn't playing, he said he's not gonna accept it. Right. Well, and used to you did get DQ for signing the wrong card. Yeah, you know, but again, well, he didn't sign it yet, apparently. Yeah, so but they got it all worked out. Yeah, and you don't know who all been trampling in that area when he hit that shot. I mean, you know, there like you said the Marshalls over there looking for it, they could have stomped that down, you know, you just don't know. So what uh all I know is when we go out and play and about every hole that we're in the deep stuff, I'm trampling the shit down. It seems like if you're trampling that stuff down, it's gonna it's not gonna improve your life, it's gonna make it worse. It's gonna make the ball settle deeper into that shit. They're more worried about the backswing. Yeah, I know. But no, it ain't helping your backswing. It's just it's probably a rule that's been in the RNA for 200 years, and you know, they gotta, you know, like I said, I don't think if it had been a you know uh uh Rory or Scotty Shreffler or uh uh what's the other dude from Ireland? I don't like him either. I think he's a dick. Oh uh Shane Lowry, I don't think it'd been any of those guys, you know, Matthew Fitzpatrick. They wouldn't call that on him. Not at all. Oh, they wouldn't have. And you see a lot of the uh, you know, I seen a lot of articles today of uh a lot of American players, Max Homer, Xander Shoffley and some others coming out in defense of, you know, Bryson, you know, saying that should have never been called. Then you got douchebag Roy McElroy. Fuck you, Roy. Come out there on the golf channel and say it was obvious he committed a penalty, and I don't like him very well. Well, so what, Roy? Uh you're also the fucking guy in the U.S. Open when you got your ass beat and you wouldn't even stick around and congratulate Shambeau for winning. Yeah, so that tells you about sportsmanship right there. So uh you've changed, Roy's changed since then and since the uh Lib Golf has come around, you know. You know, my personal thing, it's uh it's not anybody's business, but that player why they chose to go to Lib Golf, and they use the excuse that it's Saudi Arabia and some of those other countries, blood and money, bullshit. You know, PGA opened your books. Let's see where your money's coming from before you start calling that stuff. So uh I want to see where your money's coming from, your books. So but we'll get off of that right now. But uh yeah, and then you know, Bryson played really well. Did he play well today after the controversy? He had like one or two bogeys there, and then three or four birdies. I was hoping he'd really come back and try to stick it up their ass. He may do that tomorrow. His playing partner played well. Burned the guy, he played really well. And again, Rory, I've seen where he uh what was it? Oh, Ho eight or ho nine, he chipped in for an eagle and those uh the commentators, oh, they got all giddy, you know, got hard-ons for Rory. So he's gonna kill it on the backside. Yeah, he fucking sucked on the backside, just like he sucks in real life. You know, you cheated on your fucking wife with uh that Amanda, whatever the hell her name is. So, yeah, you don't have any right to tell anybody anything, Rory. Allegedly. Allegedly, you know. We're not saying that he got rights. He was long dicking her, and you know he was. Probably probably there's probably several pros that are doing that. I mean, she got married, and within what was it, four or five months, she was divorced. Yeah, because of Rory. So don't, I mean, I I I you know I dislike Rory. I just don't like him, don't like his character. You know, he's changed over the years. He's a great golfer. And, you know, do like uh some of the other great golfers in the past, keep your mouth shut and play golf. Tiger Woods. He always kept his mouth shut and he played golf. Now his extracurricular stuff on the outside of golf got him in trouble, but you know, Tiger kept his mouth shut, and I respect Tiger, and he kept his mouth shut and he played golf. John Daly, you know, same thing. He's great. He's probably even Tiger Woods said John Daly's probably the probably the one golfer that's got the uh uh most skill as a golfer. He just god-given skill. He just doesn't work on it. He don't work on it, but I mean, and then he, you know, he was a train wreck off the course too, you know, with the drinking and the smoking and the women and you know all that. It'd been interesting to see how how he would have done if if that had well you think that early success hurt him? No. You don't think winning, you know, you're one of your. Oh, I think what hurt him was he quit womanizing and quit all that stuff and trying to do it the right way. And it's a tiger or you're talking about John Daly? I'm talking about tiger. Okay, okay, okay. I'm sorry. I'm talking about John Daly. John Daly and do you think winning the uh was it uh was it the US Open? No, it's the PJ won the first one. Do you think him winning that kind of that early success kind of hurt him a little bit? I don't think so, because he came back and won the open. Yeah, he won that. That's just you know, the only two majors, he won a couple other tournaments, you know. He just didn't. He was the kind of guy that he didn't come in work on his crack expecting to win, you know. He just wanted to go out there and play. And yeah. If he wasn't playing good, he wasn't playing good. I'll tell you. Yeah, I think if I if I had if they come out with a thing and said, Mike, one golfer you could play one round with, who would it be? That would be tough. I think either him or Bill Mickelson. I think I I would that would be my two choices. You know, Jack Nichols and his prime, maybe, you know, but I think John Dalics, I think that would be and that Dallas Cowboy golf cart with the cooler. Yeah, that would be a that'd be a trip to the case. I'll tell you one person I'd like to go play around with is he seems like he's a funny guy. That's Terrell Atten. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I like Terrell too. So, but you look at the leaderboard today. Well, guess who's up there? You got one, two, you got three live golfers that are in the top ten, you know. So that you know, the big thing was they only play three rounds and they can compete, but yet every time they do a major, it seems like there's one, two, or three live golfers in the top ten and sometimes winning it. So you know, the PGA is just mad because they had the monopoly for so many years. You know, somebody come and pushed them. So they're playing four rounds now, you know, and now the uh DP World Tour are allowing those guys to come back on there. And you know, it's kind of I think, you know, I would like to see why they let Brooks Kep go back on there. You know, you know, what's what what was the stipulation he got to just, you know, his contract with Liv run out and he got to come right back on the next week and play on the PGA tour. Uh they showed what they showed what he had to do, but I can't remember what it was. Yeah, and then of course you got Patrick Reed, but I think he's back on he's a he's playing in the DP, isn't he? They let him back on the DP and then he can play in the majors, but you know another cheater. Yeah, I mean he's a cheater. You see you see him on the course fucking cheating. Yeah, you know, but you know, Bryson, I you know, Bryson's not a cheater. He just, you know, it could be a subconscious mistake, or you know, what are you supposed to do? I don't know. Anyway, I just so I don't know. Do you remember back in the nineties when Tiger was playing? I forgot what tournament was, but he hit that drive behind that great big boulder. And then he had all the fans come out there and push that boulder out of the way because it was uh they deemed it a movable object or something like that, however, that however it's worded in the movable, yeah, a boulder to weigh 10,000 pounds. So yeah, they had a bunch of fans and everything pushing on the boulder to move it more. That's not right. Yeah, no. That's crazy. You're you're improving your life. Yeah. Because you're moving, you know, you're moving a obstacle there. That's just like, you know, you go out there and you you we when we play sometimes and you hit it over, you know, out of the fairway and you're behind a fucking pine cone. You can't touch the pine cone because you're improving your life. When we go out and play, I pay to play. I'm moving the pine cone. And I'm setting my ball up on the hungry grass. Because if your ball is leaning up against the pine cone and you to pick that pine cone up or that stick, the ball's moving. So then you're it's a two-stroke penalty. I don't have their kind of money if I if I ruin my club, I can't just go get another one. Yeah, you just can't go to the club maker there that next day and get you one fitted, grip fitted, don't like good shit. But yeah, it it's gonna be interesting tomorrow to see uh to see how Bryson plays. I hope he comes out and plays well. Uh I'm going to predict that C when Kim is going to win. I don't know. He he's he's always up there now. He's really coming into his zone, it seems like. He was hurting a little bit though earlier. That first eight or nine holes, he was definitely. I think he's what in second or third place? He's like eight hundred. Eight, seven or eight hundred. Ryson, well, he dropped back five, didn't he? Then he bogeyed that 18th hole. Yeah, he's five. So he's ten shots back. I mean, I mean there's there's a ton of guys that can win it, but yeah. They're just gonna have to make putts.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Nobody was making pets today. Hey uh, you know, I mean even when Rory came on there before he you know made his comments about Bryson. Uh he said that the course changed because when he got first got out there there was uh low humidity and you know no wind, and then the humidity came up and wind picked up, so it just changed how the golf course was going to push the wings course, there's no trees, there's you know nothing to block the wind. So but yeah, I just wanted to kind of get your thoughts on that. I just uh yeah, I kind of think Bryson kind of got a I think they just a roll. Yeah, they took that too far out. And it was on TV. That's it. Did it have anything to do? Did it have it didn't change anything? No, no, it didn't change anything. He could have come out and shot uh, you know, a two over around, you know, you just don't know. I mean, you know, he only shot what he shot he shot even far because he stayed at what five? Yeah, so it didn't that didn't change anything. So I mean he I'm talking about the actual situation. Did it affect the shot? No, no, not one bit. Not one bit. And I see, you know, I like I said, I was watching the uh Sky, the golf there too, washed it on. And then those three people that were uh you know talking there at the end were sitting this they said, well we're right next to the golf channel, and Brandle Chamblee and Paul McGinley are getting ready to come on. And uh so I said, You know what? I'm gonna flip it over and see what they say real quick. And man, so they come on. First thing Shambleak did. It was obvious he cheated, he deserved this like this. Shambleep, like you, you're just pissed because you don't have the skill, and you tried to come out on a senior tour and you couldn't hack it. Yeah, and then they tried and tried with Smiley Kaufman to go out there and recreate him stepping on this and stepping on that. You can't recreate that. All the people that's walked through there. I mean, you made yourself look stupid. So uh it's just you know, Shamblee, for some reason he doesn't like Shambo. I don't know if it's because he left for the live or he's different, whatever. I mean, he's you know. So have you heard about the new thing the Shambo's got now? So he 3D printed some golf clubs, and he finally got them approved to use. So he's using 3D printed irons. So is that the irons he's using? Is that the irons he's using? He went back to steel shaft. Yeah. Yeah, that's what Chambly was talking about. That was about the only only good thing he had to say about De Chambeau was his iron plate had been really good in the last two days. So uh, yeah, I mean he's he's uh he's a different human being, you know. He's always you know tinkering and tweaking his uh his shot there and all that stuff. What are you whining for back here, man? That putter is strange. Yeah. It's almost like it's straight up and down. Yeah, I think it's got like one or one and a half degree bend where it's legal. Yeah, they tried that too to say that that putter was illegal, so many. You know, so yeah, anyway, it's just uh tiger ain't come out and said anything, but tiger, he knows he knows better. With his uh with what's happened to him in the last, you know, he probably just needs to stay under the radar until he gets his life. Tiger's tiger's done. Get him out of the spotlight, move on. He's not gonna play. I don't see him playing tournament golf ever again. Yeah, I don't think physically he's able to. He's not gonna play on the championship. With the injuries, no. I don't think physically he could. So he might be able to go out and play a hole or two and uh unless you know he can ride in a cart, you never know. I mean he might be able to still not. But yeah. I don't think he would do that just because he he he's different. That's the word I'm looking for. He respects the game too much to ride in a cart. Yeah. He knows that that he doesn't want to get have everybody saying, well, it's an advantage for him. Well he wouldn't do that. But it it would be good for him with all the leg and back injuries he's had, you know. I don't think. I think it would be good for him. He he wouldn't want to do that. It would be good for the tour, yeah. But no, he he wouldn't do it. He's got too much progress but for the game. Yeah, so we'll see what happens if he's gonna be. But I do gotta say, those AI videos they make of him now are funny and shit. Yeah. SUV rolling over. They were making that within the hour of that wreck. Yeah, that was hilarious. He's probably the one that did it making all the money off of it. So hell, I'm gonna capitalize on golf anymore, and I'll capitalize on these videos. But no, going back to figure, it it kind of changed for him when his died dad passed. Yeah, you guess when it all went down again. Yeah. Yeah, it did. I mean, you know, dad kind of uh is you know military retired and kept him on the straight and narrow, and he just kind of went to hell, you know, and it's success. I mean, you know, coming out and being that successful that early and that young and you know, all that money you got. So uh so and you don't know where to go, you don't know if he gambled and you know, that kind of kind of tight-lipped and kept all that hush hush. So it's like Michael Jordan, you know, gambling all those years, you know, they kept that kind of hush-hush until he retired, and then it came out the millions of dollars that he gambled. So, hey, it's your money. He wants to gamble millions of dollars, and if he loses, he loses, he wins, he wins. You know, mind your own damn business. These leagues don't have nothing to say about that now with uh all the Draft Kings that they sponsor, and now they got pro teams in Las Vegas. I don't want to hear him talking about that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, don't don't talk about that gambling shit no more. Yeah, that's just crazy. So you got NBA teams with DraftKings on their jerseys. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00But Draft Kings probably sponsored some of them, giving them millions of dollars. I mean, it's just the it's not just you know the NBA pro sports, college sports is run to with uh oh, making money and then all the different stuff. So what's up, Casper? What's up, buddy? What's going on, buddy? All right, you know, get your two cents in. You're not getting no attention. I'm gonna get your two cents in. So anyway, yeah, so yeah, just quick thoughts on the old Bryson D-Shambo, Piasco, and any other stuff that we uh thing. I know our uh Bobby sent me a thing today about AI and baseball. You know, see that about you know, the Mets have been using it, how to position players and different things. I mean, I don't know how you would, you know, I just I don't think AI would work for that. I mean, you know, if AI's never played the game anymore. No, and it's just the pitch. Where's where the pitch is the swing and the angle of the bat, so you know, I don't know. I just I don't believe that AI would, you know, you know, they did that with that shift, you know, until the last couple years, and you know, now they've uh went back making them play mostly straight up. You still see a shift a little bit. Shortstop would be playing behind the bag and all that, and you know, they still get some hits, but back to the old way, making them play straight up. So just play the game. Just play the game, but they can't do that. They gotta tinker with every damn thing. Just like that, uh it's like the you know, he's watching that Baltimore and uh Houston game and starting to run around second base and extra innings, that's kind of stupid. High school don't even do that. So I don't know why they do that stupid shit, but I guess they started out in COVID to kind of help the games go quicker. Yeah, they just kept it and uh they just mess with the game. So but anyway, uh if you don't have anything else, we'll end on this and we'll uh try to get everybody together here one of these days and uh get all four of us in a room. Kind of tough with Bobby, he got a new job driving for a company that's at least uh Menard, so so he's out a little bit more. Tim's lazy ass. He's retiring here in a couple of months, so he might be more available. Uh I'm sure his wife didn't let him come over today because my wife's gone, and you know, the boys are here, and uh yeah, that ain't gonna happen. So he probably went to Evansville or something. I'm sure if Tonya and Tori would have gone down to Nashville with the rest of them to the Bachelorette party, he would have come over, but uh he said he'd call me, but he never did. So see how that is. Alright, well, if you don't have anything, we'll end on that. And we'll see you back for another episode here shortly. Peace out.
