Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome back to another episode of Talking Soups. I'm your host, uh Ed from Ways of the Sith, and with me today is my co-host. Andy, what's going on, everybody? We got the he he waits for it now, so this way we we we get it. I love it.
SPEAKER_02I do, I swear to God, because I'm like, I know it's when it's coming, and I'm like, let's just go. So we're getting better at it. I like it. Yeah, I never know.
SPEAKER_00I watch other YouTube shows that I watch. I always see like sometimes they introduce the guest, and then the guest just comes on and says something, and then sometimes, you know, like the the co-host, I mean, like they that's how they usually like introduce us, like with me today is and then they introduce them and then you know give you the time to talk after that. So I how we do it is fine. I'm just saying it's it's it's always uh it's always fun to start off the show. But this week we have a ton, and when I say a ton, a ton of stuff to talk about. Uh we have the brand new Spider-Man trailer, we have Dune 3 trailer, which I'm excited to talk about because that looks incredible. We have the Maul trailer, which that's how you do a Star Wars trailer. Let's let's just start it at that. Um, and then we got a ton of quick hits, bunch of comic book stuff. So let's get right into it. So we got the Spider-Man trailer. We've been talking about this for, I don't know, probably since the show started, honestly. I want to say, like in the first episode, we started talking about Spider-Man rumors and news. Um so we have the official trailer, and what were your thoughts? Like, how excited and how did you feel once you saw this trailer? Let's let's start with there, and then we'll get into like dissecting the trailer.
SPEAKER_02Dude, so it's a whole like day worth of like just excitement because my 24 hours started with me waking up at 7 o'clock in the morning and seeing the trailer right there in front of my face. Boom! I was just like, holy shit, I didn't think it was gonna actually come, but it we we're here now. So I get it, we watch, and I'm just so fucking excited for this. They're taking like uh strictly pages ripped out of from the comics, and mainly more so from the animated series, and just overall thoughts visually, this movie looks probably the best from any of the Tom Holland Spider-Mans ever. Yeah, I gotta remember that it just it it it just looks so fucking good. And um, I did go to the movies this weekend, we'll talk about that later, but I got to see it on the big screen as well, and and it just made me even more hype. So I'm I'm so I'm I'm sold on this shit. I I cannot wait to watch this movie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I agree with you about the special effects. I feel like um there's one scene where Peter's like running through a building and then he hops on like a box and like spins out, and like once he spins out, he's jumping off the side of the building. There's that shot, like you can clearly see where it's Tom Holland practical running through the scene, and then the the blend of the the digital effect along with like the physical effect. I thought that was beautifully done. And like in some of the other movies, we talked about it with Fantastic Four and and some of the other stuff that's come out, like you can kind of see the green screen work, the special effects haven't been the greatest. So to see like something like that where like it blended seamlessly and I didn't like point it out where I was like, oh, that's special effects right there. It it really like sold me on that. It it did make me excited. I do have one gripe with all of this, and we'll talk about it as we talk about like dissecting this this trailer. I'm wondering if there's too much stuff in this movie. Like, do you do you think that's a that's a reasonable like concern about this?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, man. So yeah, I do I do feel you on that part, and and that can become kind of overwhelming. Um but from what I'm seeing here, I think they're just putting this in the trailer just to show us like what he's been up to. Um I don't really feel like we're getting a like every character is gonna have its solo like fight scene or be that much of a main character in this. Um and I just feel like um like like like for example, we still haven't seen uh tombstone that's in this movie as well. And and and so like I I I don't I do feel that just what by initially seeing the trailer, like this might be too much, but I I don't I don't think we're getting all of them, so I I think we'll be fine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh it looks like like some of the other villains, uh Boomerang and Tarantula and some of those like quick hits are gonna be the opening scene of the movie of just like showing you, hey, he's been dealing with all of these people throughout the last couple years. And then also the interesting thing, it seems that him and Frank have a uh pretty established relationship already. Like Frank knows who he is, and he knows who Frank is, and they've interacted, it seems, a bunch over the past couple years. Because I love that like little scene where Frank's like, get out of my way, and he shoots him, and then Peter bounces back and kicks him right out of the car, and like you know, basically tells him to fuck off. Like, I thought that was cool.
SPEAKER_02So yo, pause there for a second, too, because to even see the Punisher's van in this, and if you remember it from like, I mean, obviously, I remember it from the animated series. You know, this is damn near the fucking Batmobile. So, like, to even see like he has a van in this, he's got the whole cut out in front of the windshield for the gun to go through. Like, I thought that was cool. Yeah, yeah, very interesting stuff here. Um, I'm super excited to see. I've heard this.
SPEAKER_00I've heard multiple things. I've heard that like uh Frank is protecting the Sadie Sink character, and like that's why him and Peter keep crossing paths, and like that's gonna kind of be the the push and pull of the movie. I don't know. Again, we have no idea who Sadie Sink is playing, and I know you saw it in the trailer where like Peter seems to open the door, there's an older lady like in like a vault or like a encased in like a a ship or like a console.
SPEAKER_02There's it's like a the car or whatever, the tank or whatever that is.
SPEAKER_00There's clearly like a control panel behind her and stuff like that. So like she's encased in something that Peter like rips off the door, and you see her like you see whatever's inside of her jump to another body of that one of the soldiers and then jump up into one of the other soldiers up top. That doesn't look like a Gene Gray thing to me.
SPEAKER_02Like that, like same, same, and people keep telling trying to force it down my throat that this is gonna be Gene. And I don't know, I just don't really I don't I don't remember Jean Gray powers specifically being that. Like I know she can control people's minds and stuff like that, but to be like phasing through people like that, like I don't that's not really her thing.
SPEAKER_00That could be the way that they're gonna do Mr. Negative's powers. Um he has like the power to influence people, but like it's not necessarily like body hopping and jumping like that. So I thought that was an interesting way of if like that's how they're gonna show it on screen for like how it happens. Um that's a possibility. I did hear like originally there was other rumors of like Rachel Gray and this and that. Like I'm wondering like if people just got it confused and it's Madeline Pryor, it's like Jean's clone, you know, like from the animated series. That would be like an interesting thing, but there's like a weird shot of Sadie Sink in like what looks like a laboratory, and she's got like her hands raised with the hood up over her shoulders. So like I don't know who she is. Like, that doesn't give me again Gene vibes. You don't see any shots of her like otherwise in the trailer besides that. You see her hands like in a chair, and then you see her in that lab shot where like she's got her back turned.
SPEAKER_02So And Gene hasn't really been like the type of person to be like a villain like that, where she's fucking up with military people and just like you know, like she's she wasn't uh a a rebel to that extent. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00Like if they're doing stuff with her powers and they found her. If they're doing a storyline though, where like Frank's protecting her and she's being hunted by damage control, I could easily see that being like the the where she's the antagonist, but not really the antagonist, you know what I mean? Like, and you're gonna get some more kind of swerve. Also, they're they're obviously doing the Peter mutating storyline, like we saw, with him going to speak to Dr. Banner and kind of find out what's going on. Also, we get the voiceover at the end by Keith David, which I'm wondering who is he in this movie? Like, we didn't have any inclination that he was even involved in this. So um that was a surprise to me. And I'm wondering, like, if Sadie Sink is Gene, is it a possibility he's Professor X? Like, we're gonna, you know, like that would be fun. I'm I'm here for it. He's a fantastic actor. He voiced, you know, uh the main gargoyle and gargoyles. Like, I would I'm I'm here for that if that's the case.
SPEAKER_02I'm I I I'm here for it to too, but to an extent, because I just can't see him as Professor X.
SPEAKER_00There's also to be fair and add to this theory, there's also a shot of a girl on a bus who who looks like Rogue. A lot of people are pointing to the fact that she looks like Rogue. Yeah, I've seen that shit. I'm just saying those those there's three coincidences there that kind of connect the dots. I'm wondering, like, maybe they're gonna go for it. I I don't know. Like to me, that would be that would be not only a lot more to pack into this movie on top of like all the other stuff that we've seen so far, but that would be kind of a big swing to take with this this movie.
SPEAKER_02And and there's also some just to throw them all in there in one where and you know, Sadie Singh is still supposed to be playing her role, she's supposed to be coming back for Avengers uh doomsday.
SPEAKER_00So like supposedly we don't know that for sure. That's just the rumor going around that like she's she signed on for Secret Wars.
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah. So, but I mean if they're gonna do if that's if the rumor's true and they're gonna do that. I mean, you that's let's get the ball rolling for the with the X-Men shit. I mean, they're we already kind of did, but that would be a that would be the a good way to say this is it, like this is the stand we're here now.
SPEAKER_00Especially if Peter, if they're gonna do Peter's a mutant, if they're gonna do that in the MCU, if you if that's like where you're going with this story, now you have Kamala Khan and Peter Parker now who you're establishing as mutants in the MCU, which would be interesting to kind of now, okay, now we introduce the rest of the X-Men. Maybe something happens during Secret Wars or Doomsday that like unlocks the mutant gene in people. I I don't know how they're gonna do it. Like, we saw that there's Professor Hulk in here, obviously. Um, we ha we didn't see him as Hulk in the trailer, but there is some other stuff I want to talk about that's in this trailer. Um, what did you think about seeing like Hulk? And what did you think about you know what role he's gonna play in this?
SPEAKER_02Um I I did like I did like seeing him in it. It's been a minute since we've seen him. Um I'm I I noticed he still has the bracelet on him, so he's still trying to contain himself from becoming the Hulk. So She Hulk. That's that's good if yeah, that's good to know. Um But yeah, um Did you say Professor Hulk a couple seconds ago? I never got that in class. I didn't think that I was like, he looks like he's teaching.
SPEAKER_00He looks like he's teaching in a class. Like he looks like he's he's one of the teachers at their school. Like in in the original comic, um, it's it's Reed Richards in that position where like Reed's the teacher and Peter goes to him about the symbiote, and that's kind of where you know that how the like those events unfold. So it seems like he's almost playing that role, but again, we don't they were very careful not to show him as Hulk in this trailer. So I'm wondering if they're trying to keep it hidden for like because we did hear rumors he was gonna be Savage Hulk, or was he gonna be more, you know, on a rampage or something. My guess is probably whatever that thing is jumping around between the bodies is probably gonna jump into Hulk and possess him, and then he rages out, and then he gets uh uh arrested by damage control because as we see later on, they're in a prison fighting the hand. Um that's Peter's in like a jail and the hand in that first initial scene, and then there's that aerial shot of Peter jumping out of the building with the hand. Now, there's a lot of extra there's a lot of extra space in that frame. They did it with the last Spider-Man movie where they edited out Toby and they edited out Andrew Mc uh Andrew Garfield. What do you think? I didn't realize how this timeline thing was gonna go. So let me break this down real quick before we get into our speculation. Daredevil's coming before Spider-Man. We're gonna end we're gonna end the Daredevil season with Spider-Man taking place after Daredevil happens. So you do see in this trailer, spoiler, um, that mayorfisk is not Mayor Fisk anymore. It's uh Rivera who is in charge as as the mayor from Daredevil. So I'm wondering. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I didn't think that's who's those two together, is right?
SPEAKER_00Hypothetically, if Matt Murdoch ends up being revealed as Daredevil at the end of season two, Matt Murdoch ends up in jail, or Hulk ends up in jail from damage control, and that's who they're editing out of that shot. Because it would make a lot of sense if the hand is involved and Daredevil's involved, like they go together. 1000%. You know what I mean? So is it Daredevil that's edited out of that shot? Is it Peter and and Matt jumping out of the prison after after the hand? Is it Peter and the Hulk? Is it Peter and Gene Gray? Like, and she's floating him. Like, there's so many different people that because there's so many people in this movie that like you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Uh so I wasn't even thinking of the Hulk of being in that shot. So that's now that's that's a lot of space. That's why I was saying originally.
SPEAKER_00I was like, I wouldn't be surprised to see like it beat Hulk and Peter like jumping off of Hulk's shoulders, or you get Daredevil underneath, or it's all three of them, or who knows? You know what I'm saying? Maybe it's Gene like floating them.
SPEAKER_02I was I was I was gonna go and just gun-ho it, and I was gonna say it was Daredevil was definitely in my mind, but the other person I was thinking was possibly Miles Morales, because you know, we still if we get Miles in this movie too, on top of everything else, I I would say this is gonna be a bad movie.
SPEAKER_00Only because you gotta dedicate so much time to establishing who Miles is and his background and everything. I know we got Uncle Aaron in the first one, but it's it's way too much to pack in on top of everything else.
SPEAKER_02But we also still have what's the what's that girl? I forget the actor's name, but she was in The Bear and she pays those she's a Spanish girl who's spoke who also does the voice for Miles Morales and the freaking the the the anime the the movie. So that's why I was like, we still don't we still haven't even seen who she plays as, and when I as soon as I seen her be announced for the movie. So you ever watched The Bear?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so you remember the lady in the bear that the the main chef he sends her to go to cooking school to learn how to cook and stuff like that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. That girl that you're talking about, I don't I I didn't see her involved in this trailer at all. So I I don't think No, she's not in the trailer, right?
SPEAKER_02But she's she's in the movie. Nobody knows who she's playing as, but she's in the movie.
SPEAKER_00I would be I would be skeptical to see her be anything big with everything else that's involved because even we have um my boy Amon Espondi, shout out to Amon. He is uh Ezra Bridger in Star Wars Rebels, right? He is playing Paul in this movie, and you see him clearly in the shot with MJ. So Paul, who's MJ's boyfriend in the current run, well, up until recently in the current run. Um so I thought that was cool to have like him involved. You see that Ned and MJ are like living together and basically just like hanging out all the time. So there's there's a lot involved in this movie, and like I didn't even think Ned and MJ were gonna be a big part of it. I thought maybe we just a little bit of them, but it looks like they're gonna be involved in the whole entire thing. So it's it's a lot to pack in. I I would highly, highly doubt, and Kevin Feige even said that there's no plans for anything with Miles Morales at this point.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it also what makes it even more crazy, and I don't even want him to be it, but the the dude from Stranger Things, how ironic that right before all this trailer comes out, they were like pushing him as being Miles Morales and he would be able to get the hard GOAT, they I know, but even for the movie GOAT, they did like a behind the like a featurette thing where like they they stopped and they showed him the the Spider-Man Miles Morales studio over there in Sony and everything, and then like they made it like they made it a point to make it seem as if this is something that's gonna be happening. So I was just like, how I how ironic everything is dropping at this time and all this stuff is going on.
SPEAKER_00No, no way. And and if he is cast as Miles Morales, it's a horrible fucking casting.
SPEAKER_02Um no, I don't I don't want that. I I don't want him either.
SPEAKER_00If you're gonna cast if you're gonna cast a Miles Morales, it should be the kid from Cobra Kai. Um the kid that came on in the third season and the fourth season. He's he's probably your best bet. The kid can actually move, he he can do all kinds of gymnastics like Tom Holland can do, and he looks like Miles Morales. Um but I like that one kid from blackish. I would highly doubt even like we don't even have to talk about Miles Morales because he's not gonna be in this movie. Like I would a hundred percent guarantee Miles Morales has nothing to do with this movie. Um I'm really just there's too much going on with this movie to to for it to knock it out of the park for me, and that's what I'm skeptical about. When usually like it's cool to see all these elements being brought in, but overall that would be my only critique of this is I just feel like this is a lot of stuff going on, and then if you're gonna somehow tie this into whatever happens in Doomsday 2, this is this is a lot, and then you're asking a lot from people that are going to see this if that's the case. Because you you if you haven't been watching Daredevil, if you haven't been like keeping up on those shows, you don't even know Frank and who Frank Castle is or who Punisher is. Like you're like, oh, Punisher? Okay. Like And he's getting his own spin-off too. Yeah, he's getting something, but I don't think it's coming till the end of this year. So that's what I'm saying. So like you're you you're already asking for some people to to kind of know what's going on going into the movie, and and a majority of your fan base will. I just I feel like it's a lot to keep track of, especially with all these characters and Mr. Negative and Tombstone, who we still haven't seen. So it just seems like a lot. And then you have Scorpion thrown in there too. It it's it's a lot. That's a lot of stuff going on.
SPEAKER_02It is, it it is, but I I have no fear in um in what they're doing because based off of what uh I forget, oh my god, I wish I knew the director's name. But based off of what he did in in Wonder Man and what he did in freaking well, besides Shang-Chi, but Wonder Man, uh, it was amazing, and I feel like those that movie will somewhat play a role in this movie as well.
SPEAKER_00But if he's in this too, that's a whole that's a whole nother cluster fuck of shit if you add him into this movie too, though. That's what I'm saying. Like at some point you gotta curb this and you gotta I know like you only have so many movies that you're putting out before Doomsday and Secret Wars, and you gotta kind of have it all connect and play play a big role, but and this is gonna be that one. Yeah, this is what I'm saying. You're you're stuffing your whole connectivity into this Spider-Man movie to try to make it fit for what's gonna happen for Secret Wars. So that's what I'm saying. Like, you're you're asking a lot from people to try to like understand all of this and what's going on. I'm sure it's probably gonna be a good movie. Like I said, it the trailer looked fantastic. I'm excited for the movie. I'm way more excited for this than I am for Doomsday. I I still am at like minimal interest for Doomsday. Um I don't have I'm still like not sold on the you know the the little teasers that they gave us for that. But this this I've been interested in since you know we started talking about it on the podcast, and I'm I'm looking forward to it.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah, man. I I I'm loving everything that they're showing us with this, and I I cannot wait.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um another big trailer that we got this week was the Dune 3 trailer. Um I was on record, I think, last week or a couple weeks ago, talking about like Dune and saying how I didn't like how they ended the second one. I that I love the movies, I love the first two movies. For me, it's just the ending of the second one. It feels like it doesn't have like an ending, it just feels like it kind of cuts off. So I'm glad that this trailer seems to cover the time jump because this movie is gonna have like a 15 or 17 year time jump involved in it at some point. Uh we're gonna basically we're basically gonna take off from the end of the last movie. We're gonna see the events of Paul's uh genocide, I guess you can call it, because that's essentially what it is. And then um we're gonna have the time jump. So his kids are gonna be involved in the story. His little sister, uh, who's gonna be played by Anya Taylor Joy, is gonna be a big part of this story. If you've ever watched the original Dune movie, um she's involved heavily in in the plot line, but she's a little kid at the time. Uh, they opted not to do that with the with the first two Dunes, and they just kind of had her be the voice that Paul hears in his dream while while his mom's pregnant. So it's gonna be cool to see her like get to be a character. She's almost like a Messiah character, too, where like she has like a religion and a statue built for her and like people that are that follow her and like worship her. So it it's gonna be cool to see how this all plays out. Florence Pugh and uh Zendana doing you know another banger of a movie this year. Just like, you know, it it it seems like it's gonna be her year. You got Euphoria season three coming out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah to the words right out of my mouth. Zendaya is on a run. We got her she's in this she's in Spider-Man she's in freaking euphoria she's in uh the the the movie with Robert Patterson drama like this in and she's in the Odyssey. Oh my god that's she's in the Odyssey I didn't even realize that yeah both of them are her and Tom Holland yeah and Tom Holland right and uh and John Bernthal who plays podcast and John Burns oh my god these guys have must have like the same agents or something because how you get booked for that many movies that many movies that are the same.
SPEAKER_00Well the Odyssey cast is insane the Odyssey cast is basically every big actor in Hollywood you can think of and that's that's my number one most anticipated movie for this year. But Dune 3 looks like it's gonna be fantastic. I'm I'm here for it. I wonder what they're gonna do to try to top the popcorn bucket from Dune 2. That seemed to be like a big big topic online. That's it so it'll be it'll be funny it'll be funny to see like if they try to one up themselves this year with like something different. It's gonna be cool. I'm interested to see this Dune 3 gets like crazy in the books especially Children of Dune. I only have the graphic novels so I only know like what happens in in those versions. I I haven't read Children of Dune but I know enough about like what happens and what goes on to know that like it gets a little fucking weird and a little crazy. Jason Momoa's character is going to come back um from the the first one uh it's like a clone of him involved in this one and um he's a big part of this Robert Pattinson's a big part of this movie too he's kind of the the the villain of the movie uh per se. Oh my god and Florence Pugh is is kind of also like another antagonist of this movie. So it's gonna be interesting to see like how this plays out. I just know it's gonna be it's gonna look beautiful. The trailer itself like looked incredible. The last two movies were shot amazingly so this is gonna be cool. And you get to see like a bunch of other tribes and a bunch of other planets and stuff like that because Paul's like you know taking his his his mission all across the galaxy now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah yeah yeah I'm I'm excited for this movie as well I I told you this in DMs but I was saying here on the pod but like I just find it funny how you know we this is a good segue too as a matter of fact but I still I find it funny how when um Timothy Chalamo didn't get the best outcome at the Oscars and he just fucking let his ace of spades out and was like doom three trail and everybody's just like oh my god let's go totally totally back on back on top of the of of Hollywood after that.
SPEAKER_00I just um I I don't even concern myself with any of that type of stuff that that that type of stuff's for like journalists and and you know Hollywood people I don't I don't care about like what they do in their personal lives and what goes on outside of the movies. But I'm here for for Dune 3. I'm excited for it. It looked looked great to me. So another trailer that dropped this week uh another show that we've been talking about and I personally cannot wait for this. I was listening to some interviews with Sam Whitware on Pod of the Rebellion which is a Rebels we rewatch podcast with the cast from Star Wars Rebels. They were just covering the the Twilight of the apprentice uh episodes part one and part two and Sam came on because Maul that's when Maul is revealed in Star Wars Rebels. So Sam really went in depth talking about Maul and the character and like what's going on for this season of this show. It was revealed that Vanessa Marshall who played Harrison Doula on Star Wars Rebels is actually going to be voicing Rook Cast the the other the Mandalorian that's that's one of Maul's uh soldiers and like his general essentially okay so she was more quiet on the show. As soon as Sam like started talking about it she just was like we can't talk about this Sam we're not supposed to say anything and she just stayed quiet and Sam opened up and talked about a bunch of stuff. So this is taking place a year after the last time that we saw Maul so the where where it ends in Clone Wars where he takes the ship and leaves Ahsoka behind this is going to be a full year in between there. We did get the prequel comic that came out that kind of sets up what's going on and the premise of of how the show's gonna be they introduced us to the to the um the cop that's gonna be the other like main focal point of this show but it it almost seems to me from seeing this trailer that Maul's playing almost like a Batman role in on this planet. This planet's called Janix it's a backwater planet on the outer rim it's basically a lot of crime it's like another Tatooine except it's more of a city environment like Coruscant is so you have a lot of underworld you have a lot of goings on and as of right now the empire is not on this planet. It is it is just like a planet that's governed by the police almost like what you saw in Andor where you know that the the first planet he's on is just kind of guarded by their own patrol and their own cops that they have going on. The Empire comes there because of the murders and is drawn there. And that's almost what happens here once the stuff starts happening and these these people start showing up dead and then they get word that it's somebody with a lightsaber then the empire descends on this Janix planet and it's almost like Maul is Sam broke it down saying when you look at Tapeteen Tapeteen's like a hundred percent bad guy right Vader he's probably like a 98 point nine you know he's right there unless you're unless you're Luke Skywalker maul's probably about like a 97% 94% like he's not all the way bad and Sam made reference to the fact of like Maul's taking that into consideration of like I'm gonna do things my way and not the way that Palpatine would do things. So I thought that was like an interesting insight into the character and and what we're seeing. We're also introduced to um Devin Azara who's gonna be what we think is Talon it will eventually become Darth Talon um his apprentice. So so she is shown she's the Twilight the pink Twilight Jedi that's on the planet with her master they seem to be hiding on this planet from Order 66. So it seems like Maul's gonna use her as an influence. There's shots of her and him fighting Maroc and uh the crow, the 11th brother so we know those two inquisitors are going to be involved in this show. I'm really really excited for this like this is this looks incredible.
SPEAKER_02The visuals of this trailer look amazing the the color oh my god it's just it looks like the best Star Wars animation's ever been and it's a true sequel you know everybody that I've talked to about this are really hype happy about it and are really like like this is what we've been wanting from from Star Wars and Lucas films in general so I I'm I'm hyped for it it like you just said the visuals on this is stunning is it looks so amazing. I I can't wait to watch it on like the nicest TV ever but overall like this is this is we're getting good shit coming up and I and I like that we're getting on the right steps right now when it comes to Star Wars and where where the animation stuff is going.
SPEAKER_00We know what happens to the 11th brother he gets killed in in Tales of the Jedi Ahsoka kills him um later on but we we saw Marok in Ahsoka when he gets killed in Ahsoka though it's revealed that he's just like Night Sister Magic is just like green smoke that comes out of his armor when he when Ahsoka kills him so I'm assuming we're gonna see Maul kill him in this show or Devon kill him in this show. It would make more sense if it's Devon who gives the killing blow to him and then Maul uses that as like a way to to like get his talons into her of like he influenced her to kill this guy and then kind of the the influence of the dark side and him turning her kind of starts from there. But I definitely think this is where we're gonna see Marok get killed and then later on you know at some point Morgan Ellsbeth is going to end up with his body and repossess him and use him in her effort like we saw in Ahsoka. I think that's the way they're gonna go because it wouldn't it wouldn't make sense to see Maul you know both these inquisitors walk away from Maul and and Devin it would make more sense if like the crow gets knocked off the train that they're fighting on and it's Marok who ends up getting you know killed by the both of them.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00I also I also am predicting this um I'm at like a 95% prediction rate this is this is reckl reckless speculation as the the my boys over on Children of the Watch always say I guarantee we're gonna get Darth Vader in this show. That's a big that's a big reckless speculation but I like it I guarantee um because there's a moment in Star Wars Rebels where Maul and they were talking about it on the pot of the rebellion which led me to believe of like oh yeah that is a big important thing that Maul says um in that episode when he's shown he basically knows Vader's coming and he's scared of Vader and he and he says to Ezra and Kane and sp and Ahsoka specifically like I can't take him alone almost like he knows like he fought Vader at one point and and knows that Vader's like way more powerful than him. So I'm wondering if we're gonna get that as like the the finale of so like the the episode list did come out for this show. We're getting two episodes a week as this show's gonna come out. So it'll it'll I think it's 12 episodes in total but it's gonna come it's gonna end by May 4th. The finale is May 4th. So I and the finale episode is the only episode we do not have a title for they left the title off of it and it just says finale. I would put money on that being the dark because now think about it okay if they find out Maul's here right all Vader dispatches the inquisitors to this planet. The inquisitors go the inquisitors end up getting killed at least one of them does. Now we do have inquisitors now you're sending the big the big guns in with Vader to confront this problem and deal with it. And you're gonna have the crime syndicates involved in this too because you're gonna be seeing how Maul is rebuilding Crimson Dawn like we saw in solo. So at some point we're gonna get to that timeline too of like the things going on around where you see him in the solo movie. But for now this is going to be before that. So it's gonna be interesting. I'm really excited I'm really looking forward to seeing uh Devin's character and how she's gonna evolve and hopefully become Darth Talon that was George's original plan for the sequel trilogy before he sold it to Disney it was supposed to be Darth Maul and Darth Talon with as his apprentice that were going to be the villains for for the sequel trilogy that he had played so if anybody would know like George's ideas and uh Sam has made reference to it before too as well that you know Dave had these plans that him and George discussed that like he wasn't even privy to until this show was brought up so it's gonna be interesting to see like this flushed out because this is like the middle of Maul story. We saw the beginning in Phantom Menace we saw when he got cut in half we saw through Clone Wars like him coming back and you know finding his brother and like that whole arc the the the Sabine um the Sateen arc with with uh Obi-Wan Kenobi and Mandalore and all of that stuff and then now we're getting here uh with us you know we saw the stuff with Ahsoka and Clone Wars and now we're here to see this and we know how his story ends we we see you know how he dies in Star Wars Rapbles. So it it's it's interesting to see like what they're gonna do with this chunk of story and how it's all gonna play out. And it it also looks like he's got like some Zabrak brothers from his planet that are like his uh gonna be some other like main characters. I forget the names of them but they were shown in the trailer like fighting on the train. So I thought that was pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah it's all it's all really dope and I just I just can't wait. I just want to indulge.
SPEAKER_00Yeah yeah and and I like that it's gonna end on May 4th. I think for it to end for it you pointed that out just now I didn't notice for it it to end on May 4th leads me to believe they got something big for that finale planned and the fact that they left the name of the title out. I I think that would be that would be a lot of fun. Especially especially if we do get the Vader cameo I think that would be epic. That's a no-brainer now that you say that last week when we were recording the Oscars were taking place um we did kind of keep up on it as we were recording we were kind of talking about it as off air um you know what was going on some of the awards going on but what were your thoughts about the overall show and how happy were you with you know how everything played out um overall though um I was I was I was pleasant I was okay with it I was I was happy to see Michael B.
SPEAKER_02Jordan get his awards um it was a hard it was a hard battle no no pun intended to it was one battle after another right it really was though because both movies were really good movies um but I don't know me personally I just felt like Sinners was more culturally impactful than the one than the other one so I in a way I do feel like they riled them a little bit but they gave them everything else but the big ones so yeah so it was almost like like you know you want to give it to them but we gotta give these people something too so it's what it is but and to be fair Delroy Lindo probably should have won first supporting actor um especially because Sean Penn wasn't there um I I still I I didn't think like that was the right thing like especially if you're not gonna show you probably should have gave the award to some to somebody who's there and like who deserved it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah they they got composing with uh Ludwig Gordon uh he he got that uh they got director and cinematography right um was the first female cinematographer to win the award and then Michael B. Jordan for Best Actors I was so happy to see him up there. Uh those of you that don't know he's from Norc New Jersey so so we support him on this show. He's a he's a fellow jersey um so it was really really happy to see that I again I would have loved to see them win Best Picture too I I feel like when when you see the resume of all the awards they've won and all of the you know all the different award shows that took place it's it's undeniable that that is the movie of last year. Like with with with that resume of awards there's there's no way you can deny that so I feel I feel like they deserved Best Picture to just like cap it off and put the icing on the cake but yeah unfortunately one battle after another is the one that got got that and you know what that and I'm kind of okay with that because you know the people's choice is the choice that matters the most and if you ask people that it will everybody most people would say it's centers. So well and that's the thing the the the academy is the academy they're they're voting on different things. When it came to the Screen Actors Guild um the Screen Actors Guild and the actors awards they won Best Picture he won Best Actor Delroy Lindo one won best uh supporting so like they got it from their peers which is kind of the important thing um and then the Academy is the academy they they're getting paid by the studios they're you know doing things based off of other outside influences so yeah money money money yeah I I wasn't a big fan of uh Conan O'Brien hosting the awards though this year I kind of thought a lot of his stuff was was really just not great. Um even the bit with Grogu like the the bit they did for Mandalorian with Segorny Weavers just seeing Grogu though was kind of funny Oh my God I Pedro Pedro like I I guess is is um I don't I don't even know how to say it without like coming across weird but yeah Pedro's going through something um you could tell like he just gets weirder and weirder every time you see him and just kinda kinda just seems seems like a creep. Like he comes across like a weirdo every time he talks and is in public. Even that thing like with Segorny Weaver I almost peed myself I was like what the fuck is wrong with you dude like I I got the the the the uh alien reference like I thought that was that was okay funny but like that was the spot to do with Grogu like get away from him you bitch it's it's a kids movie that you're trying to trying to build and like I don't know it just kind kind of came across really bad to me and I a lot of his jokes just didn't nobody nobody really seemed to care.
SPEAKER_02Yeah yeah he also has a whole new facial thing going on too he got rid of the mustache too so that was like one thing that was like oh this is different. But um yeah I I get I get I get what you're saying one one 100% um I just yeah I I don't know he's going through but the movie is coming out and I just hate that he's in a weird predicament based off of the promo that the the movie has already been getting I was I was shocked to even think that they would even give it any thought to even have Grogu at the Oscars right now or anything like that.
SPEAKER_00You want to know something promo in a way but you want to know something I found interesting today so when I um I posted like something on on my on the Ways of the Sith Instagram today that had to do like with the Mandalorian it was like the new the new Mandalorian figure that came out um I was searching the hashtag and I noticed that like the Mandalorian and Grogu hashtag only has like a couple thousand you know shares. So like I was like that that was kind that was kind of alarming when I saw that I was like oh wow like I expected at least like a hundred thousand a couple hundred thousand you know yeah because as a hashtag you would imagine yeah that people are using it to promote the film and that like people are excited about the film and talking about it. And when I noticed that it was like I just feel it was only a couple thousand I was like ooh that's kind of kind of rough like and and a lot of people I I still don't think a lot of people outside of like people like us who are like involved in in all of this stuff and and constantly are watching trailers constantly keeping up with what's going on I still don't think a lot of people know that like the movie's coming. I I I still don't think it's like a a mainstream thing for people.
SPEAKER_02I will say though and thank God for Project Hail Mary that is bringing a lot of people to the movie theaters right now and being able to see these trailers I think now people are gonna start being like oh shit there is a freaking there's an Star Wars movie coming out. Oh shit there's a Spider-Man so I feel like the momentum it's been a minute since I feel like a lot of people have been in the movie theaters for me it's been a minute I haven't been there since I saw Demon Slayer the movie so like being able to come back to it this weekend was was amazing and I and I love it being there. But yeah I I feel like it's spring it just became spring you know people are gonna be more outside and stuff like that so they'll be able to catch people with like little you know their little pop-ups and just more promotions people will be looking at billboards and stuff like that. So I think they're gonna start ramping things up now. Well they better start ramping things up now and uh I I think I think we we'll be it'll do okay but I mean still like it's crazy that we're not even the the the hashtag thing is is really telling to me too that's that's that's crazy.
SPEAKER_00We we still have like two months before it actually drops. So I mean there is still plenty of time for it to take off and like get you know really really them get pumping on stuff. I'm wondering when the ride is getting I know smuggler's run is getting like a complete overhaul currently I'm wondering when that's supposed to debut um because that is going to be part of the Mandalorian movie. The the story for Smuggler's Run is going to completely change to be tied into the Mandalorian movie um in like a separate adventure. So I'm interested to see like when does that start? When can we start to get some some footage and some videos of that like and and some leaks from people that have experienced it and then maybe we'll get more involved on the plot and like what's going on. Alex and Mac from Children of the Watch uh shout out to them. They're a great Star Wars podcast they've been doing their Mandalorian rewatch so they've been like literally going through episode by episode of Mandalorian the past couple months pretty much since last year and they're at the finale now for season three before you know we get into Maul and then we get into the eventual Mandalorian movie. But they brought up promo shots from the Empire magazine and they were talking about how one of the lieutenants uh one of the the shadow council people who we saw at the end of season three and in you know the the hologram Moff Gideon talks to all of them and they're talking about Thrawn and stuff like that. Yeah Thrawn and stuff one of those one of those Shadow Lords is in the arena and he's got like Grogu in a cage next to him while Din's in the gladiator pit fighting against Rada. So a lot of they were speculating that he could possibly be like the the the the villain of this movie quote unquote like along with the twins along with Embo and stuff like that that the Shadow Lords and and the Shadow Council could be the people that Din's like picking off as the movie's going on. So like he's hunting them down and that's kind of his his mission for this movie per se and and then gets up with the hot stuff and gets mixed up with Mbo and everything Because my guess would be that the that the twins are probably funneling the Empire, like whatever's left of the Empire, they're still gonna need money, they're still gonna need resources. It would make sense for the Huts to like be involved and like their crime lords too, so why wouldn't they help out the Empire since they kind of had a relationship previously? It it would make sense for it all to kind of tie together that way of like Din's hunting down these these Shadow Council members and the Huts intervene because now he's fucking with their business and and Rada and and all of that kind of comes into play.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that would that would that would that would make a lot that would make a lot of sense. Um and and that would be and that would make like make sense with him being in like these different places that are like kind of like underground cities and like messing with the ATV stuff and like the higher up things like that that would make a lot of sense. So yeah, good good point.
SPEAKER_00And then Sigourney Weaver being like the captain that he's getting the missions from uh Carson Teva is not in this movie because apparently he was shooting um Avatar during this time. So he said that he's not in this movie. Katie Sackoff said she's not in this, as we talked about last week. Uh Tam Morrison says Boba Fett has been put on the shelf, so he won't be appearing in this movie. So it's gonna be interesting to see. Like, do we get any color cameos from anybody else other than like maybe Pelimoto? Or is this just strictly, you know, Mando and Grogu, and that's it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean, but we also have the guy from from Rebels.
SPEAKER_00Um Yeah, Zeb's gonna be involved. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, Zeb's gonna be a big part. It's gonna be like basically his his co-star for the movie, along with the Babu Fricks, they're gonna be back for this. Um, and then they're also introducing the droids that are running around at Galaxy's Edge, the little B BD droids that are like walking around on their own. Yeah, I know, yeah. So they're gonna be involved in this movie too at some point. Um, so it's gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out. Uh, we will hopefully get some more promo and some more information as we get closer to it. But uh the Mandalorian figures did drop today. Today was like their release date. So uh they they came back a couple years ago, they did first edition things that like basically they were in white boxes, and you know, they had a limited supply of those. So if you got those, they were kind of the collector's edition that had some value. Unfortunately, the Star Wars figures don't really hold value, but um I did get them, the the Din Mandalorian figure from the new wave, and he's pretty cool. So uh it comes with like some some new stuff that I guess we're gonna see debut in the movie A Vibrosword and uh new type of rifle, which is pretty cool. And like Grogu kind of seems like he's more paling around on Din's back. Like the that's kind of how it seems like Grogu's gonna be traveling a lot in this movie.
SPEAKER_02Awesome. Did you get your hands on them on them or they just dropped?
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, no, I got it. I I had it ordered from Amazon, so it shipped out. Uh today was the release date, and I got it on my doorstep this morning. Um they did pop up in Target's today, and uh uh I saw a lot of people like grabbing the first editions. I I don't really care for that because again, the the the Black Series stuff doesn't really have like any value to it. So I was gonna open it either way, so it didn't really didn't really matter to me. But um we got a bunch of quick hits for this week. Um we got another trailer for disclosure day. Did you get a chance to see that at all or no? Um, you know what?
SPEAKER_02That's why I say thank God for these movies coming back because when I went to see Hail Mary, I checked it out there.
SPEAKER_00So yes, I didn't know. Okay. Um I I this one involved Eve Houston, which is Bono's daughter, um, a lot more. I love her. She's a fantastic actress. I would love to see her in more stuff. Um, I would love to see her involved in something DC. Like her eyes are hypnotizing when you watch her on screen. She was in the perfect couple on Netflix. If you haven't seen that, that's a fantastic show with Nicole Kidman and uh Dakota Fanning. Um, her eyes are just like hypnotizing, and I would love to see her like play uh somebody in DC. You know, like it's just like a villain-ness or something like that. Like, I feel like she would be perfect casting for that. Um it's interesting to see her in this role. It seems like she could be one of the like I I'm still under the I'm still not sure what the whole premise of. It seems like uh she uncovers this whole thing, and the the guy that uncovers the whole thing kinda kind of lets it lets it loose, but then it almost seems like there's some people in the world already that are like part of this alien langu like and can understand this alien language and like don't know that they're aliens. So I thought that was kind of crazy of like, yo, what would what would you do if like that was the case? Like this big news news broadcast aired, and all of a sudden some of you understood what was just said on TV, and the rest of you were just like, wait, what the fuck just happened? Like everyone would freak out and lose their minds. So, like, I'm here for this movie. This movie looks fantastic. Um, I'm definitely it's a Steven Spielberg flick, so of course I'm gonna go check it out. But just seeing how the cast and how these trailers have been rolling out for it, it has me like really excited and like, oh yeah, this might be really fucking cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, man, like and you know what's crazy? Like the way how these alien movies are popping up more and more. It's crazy to say this, but these are things that I don't find to be far from not being reality. The more that we this world continues to just evolve and just things start coming out, like it feels like they're prepping us for something, like they're they're getting ready to tell us something. Exactly, exactly what I'm trying to say. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's crazy. In some other news, this is news I'm really excited about. A couple episodes ago, I was talking about watching the Wheel of Time and reading the books and stuff like that. Uh, it seems that there is hope. Uh the show got cancelled by Amazon, the live action series, because it cost too much to make and they weren't getting enough viewers. Plus, they had Rings of Power. They were kind of the same type of show that was going on simultaneously with big budgets and fantasy elements. But it was announced the other day that the Wheel of Time is gonna continue in an animation format. Now, I don't know if any of I'm hoping all of the actors from the show are gonna come back and that they're just gonna like literally pick up from where the show ended and just kind of continue the rest of it in animation, like they're doing with Firefly and and like we talked about last week with Firefly, how that's getting an animated adaptation to just kind of continue the show. So I'm excited for this. I'm I'm really interested to see where it's gonna end up and how it's gonna look and like where it's gonna land. But I feel like this is the the avenue for this show. It it there's so much going on, there's so much magic and so much like big-scale war and stuff like that. Like in animation, this is the best way to pull it off without having to spend crazy money.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and you know, like I I just see it more and more of like when shows that be can't become live action because of budgets or whatever, it's just like animation is the next step, and I'm just glad that animation, especially us as as nerds, the where people are starting to accept watching things in animation more, and it's becoming a lot more mainstream, and it's it's been a long time coming, so it's just doing it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, especially especially if you're gearing it like towards adults, you know what I mean? If you're if you're doing like this fancy show, like that's you know, Game of Thrones, but it's animated, and we're even getting like the animated version of um the Sea Sakes tale from Game of Thrones or from House of Dragons, I should say. So like it's it's cool to see these these adult animations being adapted, and and hopefully it's gonna look cool. That I just hope it's not like an anime style. I hope it's like like done something different than that. But I'm excited for that. Um now we kind of get into some comics stuff along with comics of the week. Uh Supergirl one shot special was announced, so the Supergirl one shot is gonna drop the same week as the movie. So that'll be cool to have like this oversized Supergirl one-shot issue, you know, as the movie's dropping, give you something to kind of go hand in hand with it. And the cool thing I thought about this was so Lobo's gonna be involved in this supergirl special that they're doing. Uh Gail Simone is gonna be writing a story, it's gonna have a bunch of different creators like writing different supergirl stories. But I thought it was cool. The the Lobo store the Lobo comic just dropped this past week as part of the DC new level stuff. Um, the Lobo issue for that week is gonna be the opposite perspective. So you're basically gonna see the same the same story from the Supergirl special from Lobo's perspective. So I thought that was kind of cool way to sell you on like another comic. You know what I mean? It's like, oh, you can read the story this way, but now you can read the story from Lobo's perspective too, which I I thought was a pretty cool way of doing things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I completely I was gonna skip Lobo to be honest. But now that you tell me that, it makes me want to go back and get one now for I can I can see this and make it make it all make sense.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because I mean you're you're it's gonna be issue, I think, three or four at that time, uh, by the time we get to Supergirl. So yeah, I mean you might want to just pick it up and kind of roll with it and see what's going on. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I didn't pick up Lobo this week either, but but uh we'll we'll talk about comics uh a little in a little bit. Um Ryan Gosling, since you were talking about uh Project Hail Mary and going to see that, Ryan Gosling was asked about Ghost Rider on the red carpet, and he gave some comments that kinda were interesting. So he said that he has had talks with Marvel regarding Ghost Rider, and his only response was it's a complicated situation. So I'm not sure what that means or or how to take that in in any way. Um I would love to to me, like like we've said on this show, to me the way to go about this is fuck your doing your solo blade movie. Fuck all that at this point. You've you've botched that, it's it's past that point. Do Midnight Suns. You have Blade, you have Moon Knight, you have uh Man Thing, you have Werewolf by Night and Elsa Bloodstone, who you've already introduced. So you have the whole team set up already. The only character you really have to introduce is Blade and Ghost Rider, and everybody kind of knows who Ghost Rider is, so it's a very easy thing, especially if it is Ryan Gosling, like popping up as as you know, as Johnny. Like to me, that's the movie, and you do you can even do it set during whatever's going on in Doomsday or whatever's going on in Secret Wars, it's Mephisto taking over Las Vegas, you do that story from the comics, and the Midnight Suns assembling for the first time, because they're all drawn here because they're magic characters, you know what I mean? And then they assemble and take on Sasha Baron Cohen's Mephisto and their shit movie. Like it's a simple layup for them to do and make that enticing and like make it lean into the rated R, make it a graphic like over the top, them fighting zombies and vampires and all kinds of crazy you know, crazy demons stuff. Yeah, yeah, and like just lean into it and make it an adult Marvel movie. I think it would be really cool to see.
SPEAKER_02Do you think he says it's a complicated thing because uh he may not be doing the Johnny Blaze version and he might be doing what's the other Blaze uh Danny Cash Yeah, Danny Cash version?
SPEAKER_00Or or they might be going with the Robbie Reyes version with the car who like from Agents of Shield, who they've already introduced again. Um I wouldn't be mad at him coming back though either. Like he's a little older though now at this point. Like he's he's not a kid anymore, like he was when he was doing Agents of Shield. Like uh he's Pedro's brother on Last of Us. That's the same actor. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, right. So um it would be interesting to do that. To be Ghost Rider, though, in general. Whichever one he picked, they make him play at, I think he can do it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I would like to see it. Like, I'm here for it. Um I think he would bring a lot, like like obviously, like we talked about with Starfighter, he's bringing a lot of eyes to that Starfighter movie. All right. And and let's let's do it.
SPEAKER_02I was just gonna say, like, go ahead, go ahead, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like he is, he's bringing a lot of eyes to that starfighter movie. Let's, you know, you put him in a Marvel movie, and does he do the same thing? You know what I mean? And like look look at Project Hill Mary, like Project Hill Mary, people went and saw it because like not only is the book phenomenal, like I talked about that last week. The the book is great. Um, there's a lot of stuff left out from the movie, like from the book, from the movie, but the the adaptation for live action was done so well, and like it's getting rave reviews. It's probably gonna be a billion-dollar movie when it's all said and done, uh, or close to it, I would assume. But yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh, yeah, so like you you you hit it right in the nose with that. Um he's getting a lot of review a lot of views for for the for the the the Star Wars film that's coming out, and you know, having him in a movie like Project Mary already put me in my brain, like, okay, this is how I can envision him in space and doing space things and start start, yeah, the Star Wars worlds type of stuff. So yeah, I loved it. Also, real quick, that movie was fucking amazing. I wasn't I I never read the book, so I wasn't ready to be on a waterworks like they had me on. So I was like, yo, this is too much because they they tease you and then they don't, and then they tease you again, and I'm just like, come on, just leave, let's leave him alone at this point. Like, this is good. Um you already have me, like the the sea is drenched in water already. Let's just let's leave it alone.
SPEAKER_00It's very um, it's very interstellar Martian, like it's it's all kind of it's it's very similar to those two movies. And like so me and my buddy were having a conversation about this uh yesterday. And um, spoilers, if you have not seen the movie, maybe skip ahead 15, 30 seconds. Um we were wondering, and it's it's implied in the book too that it's possible that like he dies with his crew and that the whole entire thing is like a figment of his you know the afterlife, and like it's almost like very interstellar if you look at it that way.
SPEAKER_02Oh, like he already died with the crew, and this is just something the whole movie is based off of what he was just thinking in his brain. Yeah, yeah, because the ending of the movie is a little weird to like be like, so you went here? Like this isn't even Earth, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, yeah, that's that is a that's a good point. I didn't think about that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we were talking about we were talking about it and we were like speculating, like, I wonder, and I was like, I read the book, and I was like, I got that impression in the book that like he died, and it was the whole thing was kind of like uh uh they they imply that in the book? It's it's it's it's kind of it's kind of done the same way as it's done in the movie, where like you you're not you know, you you watch it happen and you see the events play out, but you're still not really sure like what's going on. Like he's he's speaking to an alien rock monster the whole entire time. Like it kind of gives you the impression that like he could be dreaming and imagining the whole entire thing.
SPEAKER_02And and his character his character as a just in general is a he's a little we he's weird as fuck. Like so like yeah, that would make that would make sense because oh my god, spoilers ahead, it's just this is it.
SPEAKER_00But and Ryan Gosling said that he like that they are that was actually a real puppet that they created for him to interact with and and work with. Yeah so it wasn't like special effects, it was actually like a physical puppet that was on set that he was you know performing with. So I thought that was interesting. He said it made it a lot easier than trying to just pretend that you know something. Talking to himself, yeah. Yeah, yeah. No, it was a good movie. I I liked it. I I don't want to get into too many spoilers because it just came out. I don't want to spoil the whole movie for people, but I just had to point that out because I thought it was an interesting point, you know, for for to give you kind of a new frame. Like even when you go back and watch it whenever it hits streaming, like you might reframe the way you look at it, just like you do when you watch Interstellar, like this when you after you watch Interstellar the first time and you go back and watch it knowing how the events play out, you reframe the movie differently and you you point out different things. So I'm wondering if this is gonna kind of have that same effect. They do have a big Lego set that I saw that they put out for it. So like Lego didn't miss the boat. They they were on it and they they got uh they got a Project Hail Mary Lego set out immediately. Um I know this is something you've been looking forward to, is the Avengers Armageddon uh event that's coming from Chip Sidarsky. They showed off the cover and the solicits for the first issue. Um they also revealed the lineup. It is just gonna be Avengers, from what it seems like. Um it's just the Avengers, and then Wolverine and Spider-Man are involved in the event, but they are the only other outside characters that seem to be part of it. It it's basically the whole premise of this event is gonna involve the fallout from the Doom story. So after Doom gave up being Sorcerer Supreme, Red Hulk kind of took over Latvaria and has been ruling Latvaria, and the Avengers are going in to basically deal with Red Hulk, and that's what this whole Avengers Armageddon event is essentially gonna be. So I was a little disappointed by that. I was hoping this was gonna be a full-blown Marvel crossover where it was like all hands on deck, it was gonna have different things for different books, and I'm sure you're gonna have little trickle-down things in some of those books, but like I was kind of bummed to be like, oh, the X-Men are not involved in this. But it's no surprise because, like we said last week, they're not involved doing anything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So but I will say though, like the story though, right now that's happening in Captain America and in Armageddon Wolverine, it it it is very compelling. And so, like right now, he is starting to to deal with the Hulk, I mean Red Hulk right now. So um it the story is great. I I I love Chips of Darcy's writing. I it if I feel like I'm reading a book sometimes, but I like that out of a comic because I think that's different. But it's it it's it's good. I mean, I know we would love to see the X-Men in this, but it doesn't make it not.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm not I'm not reading for for those of you guys that don't know, I'm not reading the Wolverine and the Captain America series. I will probably just pick up Armageddon when it drops and like jump in that way like most people will. Um Yeah, you can do that. I I'm not a solo Wolverine guy, I'm not a solo Captain American guy. As much as I like Chips writing and stuff like that, I'm not just gonna pick up those books just because he's writing them. Um but I I'm the event I was I was expecting more of like a KO type of thing. Yeah, yeah, kind of like a line-wide event. And to see that it's like a lot smaller, I'm interested. I I'm guessing this is gonna reframe basically the Avengers and like the the hierarchy there from the Avengers, and then just kind of let the after effects affect the rest of the Marvel universe from there. But I thought that was a little interesting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it also makes sense now, like when I think about that interview that he did a little bit ago when he's talked about like the books that he already has done for next year, and he was like, I I wasn't even trying to make this into an event, it's just this is what they they called it. So I get what he means now, yes.
SPEAKER_00It makes sense because they're they're using it as the Avengers summer event, um, where DC we're getting the crisis, absolute crisis that's gonna be coming, where we're getting, you know, the the other event from Marvel, essentially, to rival it. So um uh speaking of DC, we got the next level stuff that started rolling out this week. Um, we could talk about it with along with our comics of the week. But um this week it was Batwoman, Lobo, and Deathstroke. And um, I did pick up Deathstroke, it's right here in front of me. I loved it. I thought it was a fantastic issue. Um Tony Fleaks, hats off to you, my friend. Um, fantastic, fantastic issue. I love the fact that Rose Wilson, his daughter, uh Ravenger, is gonna be a big part of this series. She's basically gonna be the co-star in in the book with him. Uh especially like we were talking about with the Nightfall stuff or knife fight, whatever it was with the the, you know, seeing Jason and Rose married in the future. I I'm hoping we get a little bit of red hood. You know, I would all up be always be up for some red hood, you know, hopping up in the this stroke book. But the way this first issue set things up, uh, it leads me to believe we're probably gonna see Jericho and Slade's other son possibly come back to life. So really cool. I thought it was great. Did you pick this up?
SPEAKER_02Yes, that's that's actually I'll just say that was gonna be my comic of the week. Uh because uh I love I loved it. I I thought it was like it's action-packed from the beginning of you from from the moment you started. Um and you know, for me, I I've never really followed Deathstroke other than what it happens with with him in Batman and just knowing him as Slade and Teen Titans, uh the TV show. So learning uh like all about about him and stuff like that, and also knowing like I also found found that they made him a lot even though he is like the original Deadpool, the way they rode him in this almost sounds like Deadpool to me. So and like kind of feels like Deadpool in a way. He's just not just not crazy, right? But he has like the snarky remarks and like the the the gun hole attitude of just like like the dude fucking drives off a fucking parking lot and just like this van and shit. So um I I I love I love this book. I I really can't wait to see what happens next. Um this this was a good book.
SPEAKER_00They really like went with the Terminator gimmick, which I thought was cool. Like he's constantly switching out weapons for every scenario as the issue goes on. And you know, the way the issue ends uh was really cool. The the guy who who like you know is is basically his handler, is is the guy who you see kind of at the end of the issue, and he's been like Death Strokes guy. He's the guy who like handles all his jobs and gives his. His bookings, he's kind of like his Jarvis if to Iron Man, if that makes any sense. So his his pennyworth to boots? Yeah, yeah. He's kind of his pennyworth. Um, except like he's the one who handles like, all right, I booked you a new mission. This is the target, this is the information you need to know. And he handles all the accounts, he handles all of the special ops missions. So that's why like at the end, it was so shocking to see like I'm coming for everything, Slade, and then Slade's literally watching as like all his bank accounts are emptying all around the all around the globe. And it's just like, oh shit. And so, like, yeah, I love the way this was. And and the crazy part is we're getting absolute death stroke that's gonna debut too in Batman coming up. So, like, Slade's really getting a push. I love the way he was written in this, though. I agree with you. Um, it gives you that that Deadpool vibe, Punisher vibe, where like he's all serious, there's no jokes, there's no nonsense. He's just like focused on his target and his mission, and then at the same time, you're not only dealing with like what's going on there, you're dealing with like him thinking about Rose and like his relationship with her and the you know his his his basically handler telling him like you have to repair that relationship, you have to fix that. Like she's the one you have, like she's the only one you have kind of left, Jericho. Um so I go back with Deathstroke to Teen Titans. Um Teen Titans and the uh I forget the the the the Judas effect is the big story that that or Judas contract that takes place with Deathstroke, and that that was my first introduction to him. I've never really read a solo book of his. Um I think when New 52 came out, I I picked up maybe the first issue of his series. Um but otherwise, like that's kind of it. I've I've read Deathstroke a lot in Batman. Um I have the the war with him and and uh Talia over Raja G Rajah Ghoul's estate in the The League of Shadows, that whole war that takes place uh in Paul Tomasi's run, I believe, or um I'm not sure. It was more of a couple years ago, or actually it was Josh Williamson. It was Joshua Williamson who did that death stroke crossover. Um so yeah, that's a great story, so it was really cool to see this and uh kind of go through. Did you have anything else for comics of the week this week?
SPEAKER_02Um, so that's my comic of the week for sure. But then I also did pick up the new uh Captain America with Chip Sudarski there, and then I also got issue number six of She-Hulk, uh, Planet She-Haulk. Okay. And I think that there's only like one more after this, and that's the that's the end of She-Hulk.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So um I picked up Wonder Woman this week. This starts off the Trinity War, which is pretty cool. It's the um Tom King introduced the daughter of Wonder Woman, and the issues were collected as like backup stories in the the run of Wonder Woman. They are collected now in a full trade that you can pick up and and just read all of them together. But basically you come to find out that Damien and Jonathan Kent, as they grow up and they become Damien becomes Batman, Jonathan becomes Superman, they're responsible for taking care of Trinity and looking after her Wonder Woman's daughter. And I love this issue. I saw a lot of people online talking a lot of shit about this issue and how they didn't like it, and it was too much stuff going on. I loved it. Anytime I get to see Damien be Batman, uh, and Jonathan grow up to be Superman, like the way this whole story takes place, it takes place in the past, present, and the future. So you're watching like the future play out on this mission to basically take down the matriarch, who's this other Amazon who Wonder Woman's daughter kind of grew up with on Themisera. So they set up like the threads throughout this whole entire thing of this story. And I just I thought it was really fucking awesome. I really loved it, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what continues. And then my other one for this week, we talked about it. I talk about it every time this series dropped. G.I. Joe, the first meeting of Optimus Prime and Duke. Uh, this was absolutely phenomenal, phenomenal issue. I can't recommend it enough. Um, it was so cool to see Clutch and Hound, who's um basically the Vamp Jeep. If you're a G.I. Joe fan, you remember like the Vamp is the classic Jeep that they drive around in. Their Jeep in this series is Hound, who's a transformer. So it makes it even cooler that like the Vamp is a transformer in itself. Um he basically sets up the meeting for Optimus and Duke to go meet each other for the first time. Uh while they're having their conversation, Hound and Clutch, who have really become really good friends as this series unfolded, they're like mimicking the conversation, which was really funny. And so like Clutch is like, what do you think he's telling them? And and he's like, he's like, Oh, he's probably telling them some quote about leadership, and then and then Clutch is like, Oh, yeah, I could see him eating that up. Like, so it was really cool. You got to like see Optimus and Duke having this conversation where they agree to be allies and go forward and start to like team up to go after Cobra. Um and then yeah, you get you get Hound basically deciding that he's gonna stay with the Joes. So I thought that was really cool, and I'm loving this series. The series just keeps getting better and better, and I cannot wait for the animated series of this. Like, once the animated series of this comes, it's gonna be fucking awesome.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that's what I was gonna ask because you know, because of the animated series that's coming out, do you do you feel like um whatchamacallit if somebody was to jump into this issue right here, would that be something that they would make it would make sense for them to get into it and they would understand all of that, or probably not. Or should they just wait for the TV show to come out?
SPEAKER_00I would there were 20 issues in at this point. Um, if I were you, like if you were looking to jump into this, I would just pick up the trades. Uh the trades are fairly cheap at this point. I think you can get them for all for probably like 10 bucks or or less, maybe on Amazon. I would grab the trades, catch up on this series, and then jump in from here. Um, I'm loving this. I I'm not reading the Transformers series, but a lot of the stuff like a lot of it all goes together. Really, you should be reading G.I. Joe, you should be reading Transformers, and you should be reading Void Void Rivals, I think is the other series. And all three of these titles are all in this Energon universe, and they all coincide. So all the events that are taking place are happening in all of the books at the same time. So there was some stuff that Optimus even talked about, like Starscream being killed. I didn't know Starscream got killed in the series. I I had only picked up um I had picked up the Starscream issue of Transformers and I loved it. I thought it was so cool and like the way they they framed Starscream in this show, um, or in the series, I mean. So I didn't know that he got killed because I'm not reading the Transformers book currently. So that was kind of a shocker to me. Optimus also talks about a couple other things that like I wasn't keen on or didn't know that was taking place. So for me, I I probably will have to like brush up on some of the Transformers stuff. Uh I'm interested to see what they do for the free comic book day issue this year and see how they kind of tie it in. And then the only other thing that I did pick up, uh I had some other books that I picked up, of course. Uh Titans came out this week, new Titans. I thought that was really great as part of the the DC new level, next level stuff. Um basically it didn't start as a number one, but it is a new creator, new team that's gonna be going on with the Titans book, and apparently the main Titans cast is gonna be moving on to something bigger that DC has plans for them. My guess would be promoting them to like Justice League level, would would make the most sense. Um so that's what I would assume to probably happen with the original Titans, and then we'll have this new Titans team kind of continuing the book. But um, I did have a little bit of FOMO and I decided to check out Dork, which is like the hottest selling book right now. Um the number one issue that number one issue is going for like a couple hundred dollars, ungraded. Um, it's insane for an indie book that just came out. It was actually it was actually a lot of fun. Um I this is the third print of the first issue, and then the first print of the second issue. Um, if you have a first print of this, this it's currently going for like four to five hundred dollars on eBay, which is insane. Um, this is uh uh uh indie comic from a creator that worked with Scotty Young. So him and Scotty Young had like a previous book, and then this is his own book that launched. I guess that's why it's got so much fanfare behind it. I don't know if I'm gonna be continuing reading this book like every month. Uh, but it was fun. It was kind of kind of cool to to check out and just see like what the hype was about. So I I did pick it up, uh, you know, issue one and two. I'll probably pick up issue three and just kind of see what happens, but it was it was kind of cool. He's basically uh half half a dwarf, half orc. Um and and that's kind of ogre, like an ogre? Yeah, so like it's he's like half and half, and uh it's it's pretty cool. A lot of magic and a lot of like stuff going on and like a whole world, like when you open up the first issue, there's like a whole map and a whole world that the guy created to like go along with it. So it was it was cool to kind of kind of check out and I guess see what the hype was about. Um do you have anything that you've been watching?
SPEAKER_02Um, so this is not comic related, but I I have been watching Will Trent lately. Um detective show. It's it's a very it's uh it's it's very ABC like, like it's like eight o'clock type of show, but it's been really great. Um besides that, recently with like the within this weekend, actually, I've been binging binging the One Piece live action. Okay, catch up on that because as everybody knows, One Piece has over a hundred episodes that there's people that live and buy die by that. They watched all of it, but not I. Not not not me. Yeah, I've never checked it out either.
SPEAKER_00I don't I've never watched the live action either. I just know Michaela is uh Tony Chopper in this season, and I'm very happy for her. She does she deserves all the success.
SPEAKER_02I I just I'm literally off the episode where they just introduced Chopper, so I'm excited to see what they do with that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the cool thing, the cool thing was they they not only got her voiced for for it, but they also mocapped her facial expression. So all of Chopper's stuff is actually like her actual reactions in the booth and facial expressions. So I thought that was cool. She's a fantastic actress, she's in Superman. Um, she plays Kat Grant in in Superman, she's blonde in that movie. Um she's a fantastic actress. It's good to see her finally getting like the shine between Superman and now getting this big role in One Piece as a fan favorite character. So very happy.
SPEAKER_02Chopper is a is a fan favorite for sure. But yeah, I've been loving it a lot. I love I love it because you know, One Piece is, and if you watch anime in general, there can be a lot of filler episodes, and what they're doing in the live action is taking all those filler parts and condensing I condensing it to be just one whole thing in the matter of like I think there's like nine to ten episodes. So it's been a great way to like catch up and understand what's ever been going on because for the most part it legit is one for one with what the anime is going is telling you. Okay. Um, so yeah, there's that. Um and what else have I been watching? Oh, just I just saw Project Hail Mary, so that was amazing. Um but other than that, I just it's been it's just been reruns and random YouTube videos for the most part.
SPEAKER_00I did um I did go back and watch the Dark Knight trilogy uh recently, and I have to say that is still probably the best live-action Batman trilogy. Um Dark Knight is probably still one of the greatest movies ever made. I'm not even talking superhero movies, I'm talking like one of the greatest movies ever made. Um, I do have my gripes with the third one still. Um that's kind of where I it loses me a little bit, but Batman Begins is very underrated, and Dark Knight is still like top of the game. But TV show wise, I think I've been watching DTF St. Louis, um, which has been really, really good so far. If you're not watching that, Jason Bateman um is fantastic so far in the show, and it's really been cool to see like how it's unfolding and how episode by episode you're kind of seeing like what actually took place and how the whole thing has was like a setup, but it's very much like your typical HBO crime drama, which I I'm enjoying, but it's got a lot of weird, funny stuff in it too. Mm-hmm. You've been watching that? Are you caught up on that?
SPEAKER_02I I have been watching it. I've I've just I've only seen the first two episodes. I think they're they're on three three now, right? Oh four. Yeah, uh I want to say the fourth episode comes out tonight, but I could be right. Tonight, yes. Yeah, no, you you I think I think you're right, right. Um so what I was gonna say was I've been I have to catch up on that, but I also forgot to mention they dropped the first three episodes of Invincible, which has been and have been it it is heating up in these invincible streets. That's all I will say.
SPEAKER_00Um I haven't watched it, I still haven't started it at all. So I don't I haven't caught up on any of it.
SPEAKER_02It's it's it's it's it's great. It's great. It's it's good stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the other one I I've really been getting into is Rooster. Um it's the Oh yes, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's the new Carell.
SPEAKER_00Uh Steve Carell show. Um for me, my head canon is that he's Michael Scott, much older after he divorced Holly, and and this is one of his kids with Holly. I I just for me, in that context, it makes the show so much more funnier because like that's just how I'm framing it in my head. And and I don't care if that's like not the case of the show. It's just how I'm framing it and how I'm enjoying the show. Um, I thought it was funny. Uh now they're setting up like him taking the job at the school to basically keep his daughter from getting fired. Um, so I thought that was pretty funny. And then like just the the whole cast of it. The the guy who's the from Scrubs who plays like the the dean of the school, and the guy who plays uh Melissa McCarthy's husband who plays the uh uh uh actually I'm sorry, it's not her husband, it's uh somebody who she's co-starred with. He plays with the cop in the town. Uh yeah. Yeah, it's just it's so funny. I'm really enjoying it. And it's it's low-key like become one of my favorite shows to watch.
SPEAKER_02No, yeah, for sure. I I I've actually enjoyed that one more than DTF right now, um, just because of that logic you just said right there about it being related to the office. And this is probably a Steve Carell. Yeah, this is probably a Steve Correll production, so I wouldn't put it past that he had that in his writing. Like that's where his brain was coming from when he put this this character together.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he is not Michael Scott, for those of you listening. Like he he he's a totally different character. He plays this author, like a book writer who's like a famous author, and his daughter is a teacher at this school, and he goes there to to give like a conference basically about like the last book that he wrote, and then the faculty he starts getting like friendly with some of the faculty. The dean of the school is like a big fan of his, so the dean's like trying to entice him, like taking a job at the campus. And basically, his daughter burns down like a historic house that happens to be where uh her and her ex-husband used to live, and then like all these events ensue out of that because she's going through the divorce and just like all this stuff. So he Steve Carrell just he he really behaves like a Michael Scott that's like more mature and more adult, and just like dealing, you know, dealing with being a parrot. And for me, framing it that way just makes the show much more fun to to enjoy. So, like I said, that's my headcanon, and that's what I'm I'm sticking to.
SPEAKER_02I love the part where he's like, um, well, he takes the girl out to to dinner and she's like, How about you come over? And then they just arguing about coming, going inside the house, and she's just like and he's like, Why don't you why don't you ask me again?
SPEAKER_00And and she's she asks him again, and then he denies her for a second time. She's like, Did you just shoot me down twice? And he's like, Yeah, I don't know why. Like, so yeah, it's it's to me, like, that's what I'm saying. Like, I get very much Michael Scott vibe, so I'm a huge office fan, so that's how I just view the show. I'm just like, Oh yeah, it's Michael Scott. I'm just yeah, fucking. But that'll do it for this week's episode of Talking Soups. Thank you guys so much for tuning in.
