SPEAKER_02

Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome to another episode of Talkin' Supes. I'm Ed from Ways of the Sith.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm Onde Got You. What's going on to New York fans and New York Knicks fans only? We finally fucking did it. Let's go, Nick.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna start it off with with Knicks in five, baby. Um so those of you guys that don't know, um, Andy is a part-time New Yorker, he goes back and forth. I live in New Jersey, so we're right here. Um, it's been incredible to see the Knicks win over the past weekend and just to see the celebration of the people. Like everybody seems in a good mood. Everybody's saying hello to everybody, which is something that doesn't occur over here very often. So at all. Um shout out to the Knicks. It's been cool. We're gonna have the parade coming up, so it should be it should be awesome over here. We got the World Cup going on too, so it's it's it's kind of all kinds of sports. I'm not a big sports person, but this has just been awesome to see, especially like after all of this time that they went without winning a championship. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

So like they energy is just so in infectious, you can't not want to be a part of it.

SPEAKER_02

And like we we've had we've seen the Yankees win multiple times, we've seen the Giants win now a couple times. And like the the Giants moments in recent, like against the Patriots, those will live on in like New York infamy. But I feel like this next one is like top of the list. It's it's just amazing to see the city and see the celebration. We were talking before we even started recording. There's like a live video from like a balcony looking down on the city when the buzzer hits, and you can literally hear the entire city like erupt all at one time, and it's it's kind of the coolest thing I've ever seen. So really, really awesome. But I know you're not here to hear it.

SPEAKER_01

So it's just like a sports.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I just want to give you just one more tidbit, y'all. So, like, just to just for you guys can understand why, because I know we have a lot of like international people that watch the pod, so like you guys would kind of get an idea of what this means. So, like, the last time the Knicks won a championship was in 1953, which is like the year my mom was born. So, like, and then she was only a baby at that. So, like, my mom didn't even get to see a championship, like, and remember it. And in my lifetime, I was able to see that. So, you guys could take that for what it is, but it's just an amazing time to be in New York and a New Yorker. I'm gonna leave it like that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's it's great to see. Um, but like I said, you guys aren't here to hear us talk about sports. Uh, we are a movie and television and comic book podcast, uh, talking soups. We have a YouTube channel, we have the audio podcast on everywhere you listen podcast. So if you're listening right now, please make sure to give us a follow, like, comment, and subscribe. So this way, you know, more people will get to see the show and tune in. But we got a lot of stuff to talk about this week. So the Spider-Man brand new day trailer dropped. We've been we've been waiting on this. It's it's not the official drop, but we've seen now the I think I heard so I heard the audio first before I even actually saw like the the the other trailer that hit. You know what I mean? So like I got to listen to the audio and kind of like picture it as it was going along, which was kind of fun to do. Like it's not something you know normally we do with a trailer. But then then the the leaked version hit, and you know what I mean? You got to see it, it's it's pretty clear. Like there's nothing really hidden from the trailer. There is like a watermark over the middle of the trailer, but you can see the whole entire thing start to finish. So, um, what were your initial thoughts about this trailer like once you saw it? And and does it make you more excited for this movie, or are you still kind of like gotta wait and see?

SPEAKER_00

So initially, because this was it was not like an official job, but like it's pretty damn clear like they were just planning to drop this any danny moment. Um initially, I was like, wow, this is this is this is dope. I'm I'm liking what I'm seeing here. Um tidbits, we got tidbits of I really think we're going organic webbing in this, which is something that like I spoke about earlier earlier on the pot in the pods days of like how I would love to see Tom Holland coming out. Um and um the Hulk scene was just like we're getting it what it seems like a a real Hulk back black in action and getting rid of that like that stupid freaking smart hawks, smart Hulk stuff. And um overall, like I'm loving this this the the the connection with him and MJ. That that is something that I'm I'm really liking how they're trying to bring that back together. And um yeah, it's just really interesting. Um it also gives a lot of like there's a lot of uh senses that we might be getting is the more of that man spider um stuff that we were talking about before, but also like I feel like this is also a setup for the black suit in a way as as well. I don't know. We overall I loved it.

SPEAKER_02

Uh if they add the black suit into this on top of everything, like the symbiote suit, uh it's this movie has way too much stuff going on for me, uh, just based off the trailer alone. Like so Sadie Sink a hundred percent is Gene Gray in this movie. Um I don't know what they're doing with her power set and why it looks the way it does with her jumping bodies and stuff like that. It's very strange. Um the whole thing with Hulk kind of seems like it's gonna be like a throwaway plot in the movie, so like he's just kind of an appearance in this movie. Um But it seems like he's helping him with his with his issue right now. My guess though is is like you were saying, I'm assuming we're probably gonna get man spider Peter Parker vs Savage Hulk. Like that's probably what you're gonna get in this movie. Like he's mutating. You can see he's mutating. He's waking up in cocoons, like you said, he's got the organic webbing now all of a sudden. So like his his his DNA is mutating, and and I'm guessing I wouldn't be shocked to see them turn him into a mutant and like go with that storyline. In the comics, they you know, there is a s a famous storyline where it it's actually from the animated series uh Spider-Man and his amazing friends with Firestar and Bobby, where like he introduces himself to Professor X and like talks about his power set, and Charles kind of hints that it could be a mutation, and then there's a later storyline in the comics where like they go through all of that. Um, and it's it's kind of determined that he's not a mutant, but it is like a mutation to his to how he got his powers. So it it's interesting that they're going this route by introducing Gene. I I I'm very interested to see how she's gonna come across in this movie because it almost seems like she's the villain in a sense in this movie, while damage control is like really the big bad. You know what I mean? Like it's almost gonna be they're gonna you're gonna be you're gonna be pursuing Gene Gray the whole entire movie, but because she's doing whatever she's doing, but in the end it's damage control who's like really gonna be the villains in in all of it. And it looks like she's the one who like turns Hulk on him, which is interesting. Like I don't know. I'm I'm I don't know if this trailer made me more excited for the movie, if that makes any sense. I kind of saw this and was just like I got confirmation of what I had been saying about this movie previously on the podcast here about how I just feel like there's a lot going on, there's a lot of characters that are involved in this. You have Scorpion, you have Boomerang, you have Tombstone, the Hand Ninjas for whatever reason. Like, there's a lot going on. Punisher, you know, like it's just a lot of stuff going on at one time. So that's what I'm saying. Like, I don't if they can weave this story all together, great. Plus, plus, like you said, all the net and mj stuff. So, like if if they can weave this together, great, but otherwise it kind of seems like 10 pounds of shit packed in a five-pound bag.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's it's funny to see like all all all that stuff that they're like to see like that scene with um with Scorpion, because I was like, okay, like Scorpion seems like he might be like an actual villain in this. Um because uh uh just yeah, but like the villain, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_02

He's not the villain, he's he's one of the the villains, though. Yeah, he's one of the main players in this movie. He's the the whole premise of him going after Spider-Man, knowing who, you know, you know, dealing with him from the first original movie, that's all coming back into play. So that's what I'm saying. You have that, yeah, yeah. You have boomerang and tarantula that are shown in the in the opening, which could just be a montage thing in the early on. You have Tombstone, who's gonna be supposedly playing a big role in this. And then there was also talks of of uh another character being involved as like the big bad over, like the overall arching big bad, like behind the hand. And the the rumor that I was hearing, which sounds crazy to me, is um Wolverine's like ex-lover, like Mariko Yoshida, um being in charge of the hand. And I thought that was very interesting. I was like, yo, like she is a mutant character, you could bring her in if you're doing the X-Men, but that that again just sounds like even more stuff you have to now unpack. Like, I don't know. I like I said, This movie is like three movies in one. All like wrapped up, and like, you know, we talked about it last week with with Tom Holland, like calling from the set of the Odyssey and basically telling them, like, we gotta have a clear direction of where this movie's going. You know, Christopher Nolan's doing things this way, we should be doing things this way. Like, I don't want to have to come piece a movie together like they've been doing in the past. So hopefully they they figured out a way to like incorporate all of these things and into this movie. Like I said, it just seems like it's a lot. It it going in, like, it's a lot.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you're right about that. It it is a lot, and um well, but besides besides that, I I am still excited to see this movie over what doomsday has been shown, which is nothing. Yeah, and yeah, I agree with you there, and then that and that stuff. So this is one of the Marvel things that I've actually been looking forward to. Although we've got a good uh a lot in this trailer, I still feel like there are things that I don't know about, and um for a leak, that's very that's very good. Like a Daredevil appearance, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That that is one of them.

SPEAKER_02

Um I noticed one thing they did change is the hand scene. Um so in the first trailer that we saw, it's all outside. In this scene, it's all enclosed. So it's the same exact scene, but they definitely changed the whole setting of the scene. So I don't know if that's to try to hide Matt Murdoch and where they are, or if that's because they they realized like the the only thing people cared about is if Daredevil's in this movie, and maybe this is them like trying to steer away from that of like, oh no, it's just Hulk and and Peter fighting, you know, or Punisher and and you know, I don't know. It's gonna be interesting. I like I said, I just I feel like it's a lot. I feel like they're they're they're trying to do a lot with this, and maybe maybe it all makes sense in the end because of of whatever how however they're gonna do this movie, they're not gonna have time to do another Spider-Man movie in between to set you up for Secret Wars. So, like, you're gonna have this and then Doomsday this year. Um my assumption would be there's something at the end of this movie that ties him into Doomsday, or like would kind of let you know of like why he's not in Doomsday. You know what I mean? Like, because they have said that like that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, does he take place in this next Doomsday or Secret Wars? Yeah, they gotta do that.

SPEAKER_02

Just just kind of I'm gonna be very upset if they don't. You know, th there's gonna my guess is there's something at the end of this movie to kind of show you of like, oh well, this is why Peter's not in Doomsday, because he's dealing with this or whatever. So I I am looking forward to seeing the movie eventually whenever it comes out, but um I I am a little bit like I I think it's gonna do well. I I think just because it's Spider-Man, it's it's gonna gain people, you know, in there you're gonna have kids going to see this and everything like that. But if it's a great movie, I I'll be happy. Um, but I'm interested to see. Like I said, I I just kind of feel like it's a lot.

SPEAKER_00

It is. Yeah, I'm not gonna lie, it is, but it's Spider-Man at the end of the day, so Yeah, that's what I'm saying. We love we love him.

SPEAKER_02

So we're gonna it's gonna it's gonna do good good things. That's why I think it's still gonna do well, like box office-wise. Um, but yeah, it's it's got me a little a little bit worried about like how how this compares to the previous three, I guess if that makes more sense. You know what I mean? Like I don't know. I I'm interested to to see how it all plays out. Speaking of movies at the box office, I did get a chance to see uh He-Man and Masters of the Universe. Um, I liked it. I I so again, I don't know anything about He-Man, any of the lore, anything going into He-Man. Um, only thing I've watched are the Kevin Smith ones, which everybody hates. So, but I like them. Well, everybody hates everything he does. Like, so I I I watched this. Um, shout out to Jono, you know, Irish channel. I watched this and um it was great. I I liked it, I really enjoyed it. And um I I gotta say, Jared Leto's performance was was pretty good. The the the criticisms that people did have for it, I was kind of like, all right, like I kind of was able to ignore all of that. Um I think the fact that he's completely covered up and you don't see it's Jared Leto, like totally removes that for me because of it the way he did the accent and did the voice. Like, I didn't think I wasn't looking at the character like oh that's Jared Leto, you know what I mean? So it was better. Um, I really, really liked Taylor. I thought that actress was really good, and I couldn't remember for the life of me. I was I kept watching the movie, like, where do I know her from? Like, what other thing has she been in before this? And it was Riverdale, uh, the Archie show that was on CW. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So um that's why that's where I knew her from. Um, but she was really good in it. I like the dude that played He-Man, like I was cool with it, and I'd be here for another one. Um surprisingly though, it it didn't do as great. Um, it it had a push from fans, like trying to get people to go see the movie again this this past week because disclosure day did just hit, and you know that that kind of took the number one spot this past weekend. Um, but surprisingly for He-Man, it it kind of proved the point that I had said originally of like He-Man's even before my time as a kid, and and I'm older than Andy, so like it's before Andy's time, but um 11% of the audience for He-Man was under 18. So that's that kind of tells you that like it it did miss the mark on like transferring over as being like a beloved kid show. It's almost like G.I. Joe, because G.I. Joe is in the same boat. Um kids don't know what G.I. Joe is. Kids, it's not a cartoon that like kids go and watch. It you know, unless you're a fan of G.I. Joe and they're showing it to your kids, kids don't know what G.I. Joe is. So I almost feel like He-Man's in that same boat of like, unless you're somebody who's actively showing your kids like these older cartoons, those properties aren't gonna continue to live on like like they lived on for us through multiple generations. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, He-Man is a very niche type of um, I don't know what you want to call it, cartoon or like part of history. Um, and like on us, unless you kind of like grew up with it and had people that were like heavily invested invested into your life uh growing up, I don't think many people are gonna be into it. Where opposed if you go and when we go see Spider-Man, I think the number this number was gonna be way bigger because it's fucking Spider-Man, it's like everybody's fucking first uh superhero they're ever introduced to. So like that and Superman, you know what I mean? So um it it's it's very niche, and I think they did a great job for what He-Man for what they did. Um it could have been there. There are some things that were a little cheesy to me about the movie, but like other than that, like I I really enjoy the the stuff that's going on. The I um there were some gritty cool post scenes um uh that I'm really expected, so they really are at least I know they're they're really trying to dig into like keeping this going as well. They're trying to.

SPEAKER_02

I we'll see if they do. Amazon's the one behind it. Um, so Amazon's got money, they're looking for IP. I wouldn't be shocked to see them like pour the money out to do this. I mean, based off international and like what what it overall lands, if it if it makes money in the long run, I could 100% see them coming back to do the sequel. I could still maybe even see them chancing the sequel just off the sheer fact of like they know they're gonna get the same audience back again and maybe cut back on some of the costs and figure some of that out, but we'll see what happens with the property. I I could even see like you know, uh almost doing what they're planning on doing with Wheel of Time of like turning it into an animated show. I could 100% just see like this cast kind of voicing you know the animated shows and movies they want to do out of this, and it would be considerably cheaper. So we'll see what happens. But something something that's in the total opposite sphere, um, something we've been very excited for here on the show is X-Men 97 season two, and it debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival. We also got a bunch of critics that were able to see the whole entire season first. Um it's going to debut on July 1st on Disney Plus, but so far it's sitting at a perfect hundred percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, so that's a good sign. Um, I read some of the reviews, I actually went through like on a couple of the people that I I follow and interact with on Twitter were at the Tribeca. Um, so I got like a live reaction from that. Um everything I heard sounds incredible, and it was cool to watch. Um, I watched a clip of Brad Winterbaum talking about this season earlier today. He's the head of Marvel Television. He's now actually got promoted now to to be overseeing the comic books as well. So he was on the carpet and he was talking about the diversity of this season and how you're you're looking at the different teams in the different timelines and how each team is a different philosophy, and that's kind of how they built this show and how they built this season. So, from some of their early reviews that I read, um, a lot of people had expected, like, oh, we're gonna get the Gambit Death reveal early on, and from everything I've heard, like it's totally different than like anybody expected. So that's cool.

SPEAKER_00

Um do you think we're gonna get like an X4 spin-off show at some point? No, because of so much X-Men that's in this one season, like, and then they're introducing them.

SPEAKER_02

No, I think uh X-Men 97 is it. Um, he spoke about the possibility of season four and um how the MCU reboot or anything like that, the act actually live-action movie, would affect the show, and he said nothing will affect this show. He said this show is it's in its own continuality, in its own pocket universe, and we're not gonna cross it over with anything else other than like the X-Men 97 property. So fans of this show don't have to worry about like synergy between the MCU or this eventually becoming part of the MCU. It's it's not gonna happen. Um so I'm really interested to see how this season plays out with Apocalypse being the main villain in multiple timelines. Um, but yeah, I don't think we're getting any kind of spin-offs out of this show. We're not getting a Spider-Man 93 either. Um, they're gonna continue with their Spider-Man show that they're doing. So, yeah, I don't see like any kind of possibility for spin-offs. Like everything's everything will take place in this show with all of these teams and X Factor and X-Force and everything, and we'll just kind of bounce around. And then my guess is going forward, they'll they'll be involved in other storylines, but it'll just dictate, you know, they'll they'll have crossover episodes probably like in the other seasons.

SPEAKER_00

So, like, based off of what you're seeing right now, like through trailers and stuff like that, because you might know you you do know more than me as far as X Men with this like the Jinosha event that happened, because that was like basically like 9 11 in this turn this show's term. Um what would you think like the next big thing can happen with with them? Um besides like because yeah, but like because I know like Ginosha was like horrible, so like apocalypse will be the next best thing.

SPEAKER_02

As the show starts off, and as we saw in the last trailer, you have students like Quentin Choir and Monet and some of the younger mutants that are looking for the X-Men. They're they're going to the mansion for sanctuary, and the mansion's not there, like there's no X-Men there. So you're seeing that and if you're if you picked up the uh the the the comic that went along, like as the preview, you're seeing that basically since Genosha, now you're seeing more increased crimes against mutants and more people hunting down mutants and you know, violence that's going on because these people now are are public figures. So it that's mainly why Cable puts together X-Force and stops fucking around because he's like, I'm not dealing with all this shit. Um and Angels Angel's right Angel and Silock are his first two recruits, and then he sees Beto and uh Jubilee, so that's how like that team's gonna form, essentially. But um, yeah, I I I think the Jenosha event is the Jenosha event. That's part of the Grant Morrison run. Um it's in the comics, it's Cassandra Nova that has the event, like she's the one who triggers the whole entire you know, Jenosha event. But Apocalypse now, you're gonna be dealing with him in the past, present, and future. I don't from what I had heard from uh the previous showrunner, all the age of apocalypse stuff was supposed to be kind of cut out of this season, but I don't I don't know if it is or not, and it might have in place of X Factor and X-Force, which I'm fine with if that's the case. I don't need to go back to Age of Apocalypse. We did that in Wolverine and the X-Men uh for a whole season pretty much. So I'm kind of good on that. This will tie in though. If if like if you haven't gone back and watched like the original 90s series, I highly recommend going back and watching the 12 uh episodes from from the early 90s season 90 seasons. I think there's two parts to it, the 12 part one and the 12 part two. Um it's Bishop out of time. There's like a whole storyline that revolves around like the 12 storyline from the comics. And from what I've seen on the footage that has been shown off, the 12 storyline is gonna come back into play in this apocalypse storyline because there's a mural art behind him that shows Magneto and Charles and the rest of the 12. So it it's it's definitely gonna come back full circle. Like they're they're definitely gonna pull stuff from the original series and have it continue to play out here. Archangel, all the stuff that happened to him in the original series, is all still canon through here. So him wanting his revenge on Apocalypse for what he did to him in the in the original show and turning him into Archangel, like that's all gonna be in play. Uh Scyllock, like we had said previously, not sure if she's Betsy or if she's Kwanin. Um, but either way, it seems they're gonna still stick to that like Warren Cylock love story. So I'm excited. Uh X Factor and seeing Havoc and and Cyclops and like we were talking about last week, that storyline was never resolved in the show. So like I don't think they know that they're brothers. Um, I just know that they know their powers don't work on one another. So I I'm interested to see like if Val Cooper is the one who tells Havoc that like it's your brother, and then I'm also interested in the Polaris storyline. Uh Lorna Lorna's gonna be like the main player of this whole season. Her storyline kind of pulls everything together, and especially because you're gonna see like flashbacks to when she was on the team originally, and then how she's gonna go from X Factor to eventually becoming back to be part of this new Morrison team when this show is at the end of its you know, season. Because uh she's one of the X-Men that are in the Grant Morrison suits with Cyclops and Beast and Bishop and Rogue, I think is the other one. So, yeah, it looks like we're gonna have like uh um you know a a a core X-Men team by the time this season ends. So should be cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, through the trailers, I really can tell, like we will get that Bishop story you were talking about, because it seems like in the trailers he's a lot more playing a bigger leadership role than than normal than the last season.

SPEAKER_02

He's leading the main team in in the current day, like he he's the main leader of the team for for the current day.

SPEAKER_00

So I'm excited to see that. Um, because I think Bishop needs more love these days than than he's ever gotten. So it's good to see him.

SPEAKER_02

It's true. Um, but yeah, it it's gonna be cool to see. I mean, I'm really interested to see how it all plays out. I don't know what the release schedule is gonna be like. I don't know if they're dropping this all at once. I don't know if it's gonna be a weekly thing. Um, but it's gonna be Yeah, and I think there's only eight episodes this time. I it wouldn't shock me because that's all they do for all of these shows now, which is disappointing. Um I I would sit here for 22 episodes of this show like the old days. But um it's it's disappointing that you only get you only get eight episodes now for or six if you're lucky, eight if you're if it you know they really like the show. One of yeah. So but yeah, uh X-Men 97 will debut on July 1st. The comic uh came out last week, was the first issue, so I believe there's five issues of that that will fully tie in, you know, leading you up to season two. Um so first issue was really great. I I'm looking forward to seeing how they kind of continue that and and you know what other tidbits we get from the comic that we're not gonna get in the show. So talking about Star Wars, this is more of a a rumor thing that that was kind of going around. Um it wasn't a surprise that Dave Falone wasn't a fan of Andor. He kind of felt like the tone wasn't Star Wars and that it shifted and was more of an adult thing. Star Wars is for everybody. But the speculation is that Dave Falone didn't want to make Starfighter either. So what do you what do you think about that?

SPEAKER_00

Well, given the fact that he is the the the guy in the big chair over there at Lucas and for Star Wars. Well he wasn't at the time.

SPEAKER_02

Remember that. He wasn't at the time. This is a cath Kathleen Kennedy decision. This is not him. He was just Dave Filone working at Lucasfilm. He wasn't in charge.

SPEAKER_00

Well, so this that was he was saying this back then, like before before it was even announced.

SPEAKER_02

Supposedly when this movie was being pitched and kicked around of being developed, because this movie got fast tracked if if in if you didn't know, this movie was never supposed to happen. This wasn't one of the movies Kathleen Kennedy announced. She announced three other movies that have never taken place and from what it seems like are never gonna happen. This Sean Levy movie was fast-tracked after the success of Deadpool and Wolverine. She quickly scrambled and put this together because Sean Levy had this pitch for this story and they put this together. It's built as being a fully standalone movie set after the rise of Skywalker, as we know. Um, but from everything we know about this movie, it's not essentially a standalone. It's a slingshot movie, it's a standalone that's gonna take you into the next era of Star Wars. So So apparently from from what they were saying was that when this idea was pitched, Feloni wasn't a fan of making it. Like it just this wasn't one of the movies that he thought they should go forward with. And again, this is speculation, this is a rumor, this is something that was going around like on some of the trades.

SPEAKER_00

So, my only thing that makes me feel like he he feels like that is because it wasn't in line with what he has planned for Star Wars, and would kind of backtrack them from what his initial road platform that he has going forward. I can see that. Um, and also that it that it's probably just that and every little tidbit that comes with it, down to like the tone of the movie, to the actors and the directors that are doing this, knowing how uh Kennedy was was was was was doing the leadership over there, and just like she's just like not with what the community is coming is trying to to be with. Um and so yeah, I that's just the only thing that comes to mind when when I think about him not liking it.

SPEAKER_02

I could I could I could see your point about the the backtracking and about going back and maybe interfering with some of his plans, and and I think, you know, depending on the style of this movie and how it's done, does it fit Star Wars? Is it is it the is it the George treatment or is it Sean Levy movie? You know what I mean, just in Star Wars. So like that's gonna be the interesting thing to see is like when this movie actually comes out. But it seems like this is the big thing, like Disney thinks this is a home run, this is the one, this is the Star Wars movie they're banking everything on, and Mando was just kind of the soft opening. I based off Mando and how quickly that came and went, and nobody like unfortunately, guys, like that movie got knocked out of the top five in less than ten days. And while I enjoyed the movie, that that speaks horribly to how people feel about Star Wars, like general audiences. If if they didn't go see the the cute Grogu that like merchandising-wise, their kids love, everybody kind of loves. Does Ryan Gosling do it to get people in the door? I don't know. And like I I just I mean I'm very intrigued to see like when that comes out, the reception to it, how the movie is, and and how that performs, because that's really gonna be the tell-all. Because Ahsoka now is is pushed back to the beginning of next year. We're not gonna see any kind of results of Ahsoka or how that response goes until that eventually comes out. Uh, we got Maul that's critically acclaimed. We have season two of that coming. We have celebration coming next year, which hopefully they plan on announcing a few more things at. But as of right now, like Starfighter is it.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, for me, the what they have to do is put the promotion uh at a top-tier level and not do the same things that they did with Mando. Um, I feel like if they uh promote this as like a Star Wars meets Top Gun movie, um, plus, you know, with Rosin Gosl Ryan Goslin as the main character in this, people love him from Barbie and his wittiness and all that other charm that he has in his other movies. I feel like that will be their selling point. But they have to do the promotion, I feel like, in that type of way, because that would make it a lot more general and make it more like um uh relatable to to to to fans and people who know both properties and can kind of like be cool with knowing like oh this is something like that.

SPEAKER_02

And yeah, I I just think not having characters that anybody knows and just starting fresh is not the like for me that's not the benefit for Star Wars. You know, you want you want the you want somebody that people recognize and kind of go along with and and I don't know. I I I've I've heard both sides. I I've heard from the fandom they want new stories and new characters and new timelines and all of this stuff. But to me, like I lose more interest with more brand new characters and brand new storylines. Like a lot of those shows that they've tried now and taken swings on with these brand new characters, a lot of people haven't cared. So to me, it it shows me the opposite where like if you went and did an end uh a show with Luke Khan and Leia and you recast them or a movie with them, I think you're getting people in the door because it's like, oh, Luke's back. It's we're going to see Luke Skywalker. Like, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Like and it makes it more relatable. The more you new characters you add to it, the more you further push from the main plot and the the original stories um furthering. So yeah, I just agree with you on that one.

SPEAKER_02

At this point, Star Wars is the Skywalker saga, like whether people want to admit it or not, and these Simon Kinberg movies are more than likely gonna be, you know, continuing the Skywalker saga, but it's with Ray. So I don't know. I I'm just I'm very interested to see how this all plays out because it could go either way. People could absolutely love this movie and like this is what they want, but the the the division now kind of almost comes from the people that loved Andor. The people that loved Andor now are like, well, we want more stuff like Andor. And it's like that unfortunately, guys, like I don't think you're getting anything more like Andor because Andor was made by somebody outside of Lucasfilm who had this vision for something and worked out the deal and and got what he wanted out of it because Star Wars was desperate and needed content, essentially. Like, that's what happened in the long run. How Tony Gilroy got got two seasons greenlit. Because had they gone off the previous method, the first season of Andor's ratings, it would have gotten cancelled, it would have never came back based on how much money it cost to make. So that was a genius move by Tony Gilroy. He got the show he wanted made done for the budget he needed and for the two seasons that he needed to tell the story. I I can't see a lot of other directors unless you're Christopher Nolan or you're like some big Steven Spielberg coming in to do something like those are the types of people that can like make those types of deals. I I I think I don't know. I really, I really just don't know. Like it's gonna be so interesting because I really do. I feel like almost the whole franchise as a whole, like we can have our animated shows and we can have our our comic books and all the other stuff in the Star Wars universe, but as for mainstream media and mainstream audiences and people who aren't fans of all of that other stuff to go see a Star Wars movie, I I kind of feel like Starfighter will be the the tell-off. If if if that comes out and that doesn't get the you know, that doesn't hit a billion dollars and isn't this big blockbuster like they want it to be. I I think we're having another conversation next year about like the whole state of Star Wars and what they can do at this point.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you're right. And you know, you mentioned Ray, and is it's funny enough, like the more uh we speak about her and the the continuation of that whole saga, I'm noticing more people that were actually uh like liking the the Force Awakens and the rest of the Skywarker stuff that she was in, which is pretty surprising because for all I knew was that everybody hated it. But now I'm starting to see this resurge of people that are like in love with it.

SPEAKER_02

It's really not necessarily Ray that's the problem, it's it's the other movie. So like the whole the whole I guess controversy around the sequel trilogy is that they had no plan when they went in to make the movies. They went in and they made episode you know nine, and it's it it is what it is, you know, like or episode seven, I'm sorry, like Force Awakens, you know, like they went in and made Force Awakens, and Force Awakens is essentially New Hope, just redone. It's it's the same movie, same plot line, same premise, everything. When they came in to make Last Jedi, they had no plan of where the story was gonna go or what they wanted to do. They didn't even have the same director. Their plan was to have three separate directors direct all three movies, and that didn't happen because Rain Johnson came in, did Last Jedi, and that's what really split the fandom even more down the middle. It was like, all right, Force Awakens was cool. Most people will watch Force Awakens, but Last Jedi is where the controversy comes whether you either love that movie or you fucking hate that movie and feel that it ruins Star Wars. And then you have the other crowd who liked Last Jedi, but then hates the fucking final one and feels like JJ Abrams was the one who fucked this all up. So it's like you can't win with either one of two final movies. Um yeah, basically, I think I think Starfighter is gonna be the main thing that's going to determine the future of Fran the franchise and where they end ultimately end up going.

SPEAKER_00

I'm seeing this whole new resurgence, and it's just really like surprising to me because I didn't know that was even a thing. Um Starfighter, we'll see what happens with that, but yeah, we'll go ahead.

SPEAKER_02

Like I said, with the sequel trilogy, it's either it's either Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker are the dilemma. It's it's you know, either you hate both movies, you like one and don't like the other, and that whole mess that comes with it of what happened to Luke and the Emperor coming back and just all of that is shattering for a lot of people who the original trilogy, you know, was their story. That's why I think like if you were to come back with Luke, Han Leia in this Mando era and include them in what you have going on with Ahsoka and all these other characters, you could do something with it. You could actually have something interesting that fans are gonna gravitate towards. But yeah, Starfighter and going back to Rise of Skywalker, I I kind of feel like I I I you're shooting yourself in the foot a little bit by going back to that. And like I said, there are people that like Ray. Ray's a popular character, she's the the Disney princess, she's essentially a you know considered a Disney princess. Yeah. So I didn't know that. Yeah, like there's girls that love Ray, like she's in the Disney park, like you you know, there's tons of pictures of of kids running up to her and like wanting to meet her. So I'm not surprised. And like you're gonna have that audience that for me, the the the prequel movies were like hated by most audiences when they came out. Like, if you were an original Star Wars fan, a lot of original Star Wars fans didn't like the prequels. I grew up on the prequels, those movies came out when I was of age. So I was able to go to the movie theater and watch those movies as they came out without knowing what was gonna happen to the next one. You're gonna have that with the sequels at some point of a whole generation of people where like those were those their Star Wars movies. They they had seen the other ones, or maybe they had only seen the sequel trilogy and then went back and watched the original ones. And like, it's gonna happen, it's bound to happen. It happens with everything, but I don't know how strong that audience is to carry a box office, I guess is what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we'll still have to wait and see because this this Star Wars resurgence is it's it's gotta come back somewhere, somehow. The Mando stuff was really telling, and like we said from before, the promo gotta be on point with what they do next with Starfire. Because if it's not, I just don't feel like people are not gonna are gonna pay attention to Star Wars unless you are a main Star Wars fan. And and that's just it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And like I said, celebration should should be some more announcements of of what's gonna come or or you know what's next after Starfighter. If they announce the Kinberg trilogy, I wouldn't be surprised. Like if they roll out Ray and roll out the cast of of who's gonna be a part of that movie. Um, but we'll just have to wait till then to see. We got a ton of DC news. Um, so Jason Momoa is doing press for one um for Supergirl. Uh he was on with Coi John Drew on the DC podcast, uh, was talking about how you know the rumor was true. He uh as soon as he heard James Gunn got the job, his first text was Lobo only. He didn't say anything else, he just wrote Lobo. Yeah. And um, so yeah, James Gunn made it happen right away. And so it's a dream roll for him, he said. And he's they asked him who his team up would be if he had the opportunity, and he said, you know, I think a Wonder Woman and Lobo movie would be really cool. So hinting at the more possibility that his his girlfriend and uh and you know partner is in fact Wonder Woman, and uh there was some grilling on the script writer, though the woman who's been writing a lot of the DC scripts lately, and she was getting asked almost the same questions of like Maxima or Wonder Woman? Maxima or Wonder Woman, and she was shying away from everything. Also, a rumor of a Teen Titans. Uh, I don't know if it's gonna be a show or a movie, but that's been kind of being kicked around a little bit too, is like kind of picking up traction on the rumor mill, uh, which would make sense based off like the timeline and what they're doing. Also, a Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grad show. And this is the one I'm confused about Gorilla Grad.

SPEAKER_00

Uh so it's I know about the Jimmy one, but Gorilla Grad has been added to this.

SPEAKER_02

So it's it's gonna be called American Villain, is the name of the show, and uh It's gonna involve Jimmy Olson and Gorilla Grad. And supposedly it's going to tease a lot of future stuff for the DC universe. So I wouldn't have expected a Jimmy Olson show to be where you're gonna tease stuff and and move forward, but I I don't know, man. I I give up on trying to predict like what they're doing with the DCU at this point. A lot of the things that they're picking are not things that I would pick to make movies and make shows around. Um, but apparently they feel like this is going into production very soon and this is ready to go. So I I I I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

So two things you mentioned the the what the Jimmy um the Jimmy Olson, the Jason Mamon thing, like you've been saying it the whole time, like that she is gonna his his girl's gonna be Wonder Woman. So like hearing these and bets uh are like so on point, and the fact that they're doing that is almost like a dead is a dead giveaway, like this is what it's gonna be. And as a Puerto Rican, I'm very happy to see that happen. So yeah, I'm all for it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I think she'd be great, and and like I like we were talking about last week, those picks she posted like in the gym, she's jacked, like she's cut up, she's perfect for the role. So, like if if he doesn't cast her in the role now and she is Maxima, I'm gonna feel like he wasted like a perfect Wonder Woman. Um, but just these these decisions are interesting to me. And like even Supergirl, so like the the projections, the opening projections for that movie now have dropped from 70 to 80 million now to 50 million for opening. So like I just for me, my worry is about one of the other topics that we're going to get to is this paramount merger. Um I he's he's filming Man of Tomorrow right now. He's not even far with Man of Tomorrow, they're still doing early principal photography and all kinds of stuff, like while we're starting filming. So he's got that. We got lanterns coming in August. We have Supergirl, we have Clayface, we're gonna have a Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Garage show, and we're still not gonna have a Batman. Um where we may have a Wonder Woman, that's that's part of it. Um but I don't know, some of these choices to me just seem very, very off the wall. And like an another thing that we could talk about, we've been talking about Batman too. There's all kinds of changes now to those rumors and and things that we were talking about a couple weeks ago.

SPEAKER_00

Um Yeah, those were interesting. Um, especially the Sebastian Stan stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Like So Sebastian Stan, it uh confirmed by Jeff Snyder of the In Snyder, he was the one who leaked all of these castings originally when they were coming out. He was just kinda kind of putting names to faces as he was hearing the names who were casted to the movie. And uh the other day he came out and kind of backtracked his story and cleaned up some of it. Um so it seems like Sebastian Stan, who was originally you know talked about as playing Harvey Dent Two-Face, is actually gonna be playing Victor Zaz. Uh, for those of you guys that don't know Zaz, he's kind of like a C-level Batman character. He's a serial killer who kills people and then c puts uh notches on his body. So he's scarred up from head to toe basically on how many people that he's he's killed and or helped transition because he views it that he's helping people who it's almost like a jigsaw um from Saw the Saw movies, where he views it as he's helping people who who squander their lives or or you know take their lives for granted. So there was shots of Sebastian Stan getting bulked up and with a shaved head.

SPEAKER_00

So I mean Zaz makes sense, but I don't know, like Yeah, yeah, it just doesn't seem like the right choice, like as both from being him being two-faced. Like I I imagine him two-faced once we said that. Now you're telling me Zaz is you're like really like putting up a sour taste in my mouth when I hear that.

SPEAKER_02

Now see there's there's there's always a possibility that this is hush and and people aren't getting like the information right. Um because I could I could see Sebastian Stan being Tommy and and like that whole story, but a lot of people keep forgetting that like the whole Tommy Elliott car crash was part of the Riddler story in the beginning, and I think they killed Tommy Elliott in in Reeves's universe in the first movie. Like I think Tommy's parents, like Tommy died in the car crash with his parents, if I'm not mistaken. I never go back and watch the Batman. It honestly, it's not in my top Batman movies. I don't, it's not something like I've watched I've seen that movie maybe twice and never gone back to it again. So um I wouldn't mind going back to watching it. And it's it's not that I don't like it, it's just it's it I'd rather watch Dark Knight if I'm gonna go watch a Batman movie or you know, one of one of the Nolan movies or or the animated series or something else, you know, the Keaton stuff before I go straight.

SPEAKER_00

Literally anything but the reuse Batman.

SPEAKER_02

But I did find this interesting because, like, alright, so maybe you're gonna elevate the character of Victor Zaz, you're gonna take a big swing on him and like make him try to make him like an A-list A-list villain, I guess, and like position him maybe like in that hush positioning, but have it be Zaz rather than Tommy. You could do something like that. The the thing for me that like now is the more interesting part is Brian Tyree Henry is gonna be the one who's actually playing Harvey Dent and Two Face. Um he was in Eternals, he was in Bullet Train, he was in the Godzilla movies. Like it's very interesting. I I know this is getting backlash because people are like, oh, well, why do you have to race swap two-face? And if for those of you guys that don't know, Billy D. Williams was originally supposed to play Two Face. Um Billy D. Williams was originally supposed to play Two Face in the Burton universe. So Too Face was supposed to be an African American character back then. It's it's it's gonna be interesting to see this take, and and and I think he's a fantastic actor. I think he's especially based on his performances in the past, the fact that he's gonna be able to play the two personalities of Two-Face, I think he's gonna fucking kill that part of the role. Um, but now it's also been tossed around that, like, so originally it was rumored that Charles Dance was gonna be playing um Harvey's father and Scarlett was gonna be playing Hilt Gilda Dent. That is not the case anymore, as well. Like Scarlett Johansson and Dance apparently are playing a father and daughter duo. So whether she is Andrea Beaumont, whether it's part of the court of owls, the court of owls is being teased as being like involved in this whole entire movie. So I wouldn't be shocked to see Charles Dance be like the head guy of the Court of Owls, Scarlet be Andrea Beaumont, and they spin the Phantasm story into the Court of Owls and do it that way without having a talon. The the Talon would be Phantasm. I I could 100% see that, or uh Victor's Az is the talon for the Court of Owls, however, they're gonna do it. But it does seem like it's almost a combination of a bunch of different stories. It seems like the Long Halloween is gonna be involved in this, it seems like the Court of Owls story is gonna be involved in this, and then it seems like he's also leaning into the hush of it all because apparently Barry Keegan is is coming back to play Joker. Um, and surprisingly, Colin Farrell is only gonna be involved in this movie for a couple scenes. Um he's he's not really involved in the story, and they've decided not to move forward on a season two of Penguin. So uh That's the L.

SPEAKER_00

And and to I'm not moving forward with a season two of this of the of the of the penguin is crazy. Don't put him don't put him in the movie, great, but no season two is nuts.

SPEAKER_02

No, the the the nuts thing would be is you based your whole decision to move forward with Reeves Batman because Penguin season two did so well. So the fact that you're you're you brought all this back to do this second movie that not a lot of people were clamoring for. I don't think there was a huge audience like, oh, I can't wait for the Batman 2. Um But the success of Penguin is what made people say, Oh, you know what, I kind of want to stay in this universe a little bit longer, I want to continue to see this. And them not moving forward with that is kind of interesting. I I did hear like Snyder was talking about rumors of a potential Poison Ivy series that they were gonna do, but I I I don't I don't see that being tied to the Reeves stuff. Like if they're gonna do a Poison Ivy series, I think that would probably be more guns wheelhouse than than Matt Reeves, because she wouldn't fit in to this universe unless you made her like an eco-terrorist or something.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I feel like people were more so happy to see Batman 2 because of the ending of the penguin. Um, no wanting to know if like they will like like does Batman know about the stuff penguins have been doing, and and basically I wanted I wanted to see Batman 2 to see we get revenge for what he did to what's his face that he killed in the penguin. Um Dominican brother. I can't remember his name. But I wanted to see Batman give him revenge for that. So that's why I've been so kind of hyped to see Batman 2 and whatever was gonna come out, uh, mainly because of that. But then now we were getting these new stuff, the stuff that's going on and these changes, it's very uh confusing for one, because you just completely uh bamboos with me. Uh you you got me there, Reeves. But uh other than that, like seeing Brian uh Tyree as two-faced instead, it's very like uh I don't care about the controversial part of it. To me, it's more so like and and it's possible for him to get fit for it, but I've just never seen him fit enough for a two-faced role, or if not fit skinnier than what he's normally been. Like it's very possible, but I just I don't know, it's just it's just gotta see what his uh work ethic is and how they depict him that way, but is that's just the only confusing part about it for me, and just seeing him in that role. I'm all for you know, we getting uh an African-American uh two-faced. We need more of that in media, but it's just that that's just my only thing. So we're just gonna have to see what he does on this and going forward. I really hope I really wanted to see Scarlet as the talent. Guess she's not, but it is what it is.

SPEAKER_02

I would have really liked Brian Tyree Henry to play uh Harvey Bullock. I thought that would have been like when he was cast originally, that was the rumor that was going around. So I was like, oh, him with Jeffrey Wright as as Commissioner Gordon, like I love that duo for them. That sounds amazing. I'm here for him to play two-faced. I think he's gonna be able to pull it off, especially because I've seen him be serious in certain roles, and I've seen him be comedic in certain roles, and I think his his two-faced is gonna have a little bit of that in it. I think you're gonna see like the other side of him be a little bit more fucking out there and like all over the place rather than like composed like he probably will be. So um it's gonna be interesting. I for all for all I know, like they could kill Harvey Bullock and not even do the two-faced story. I don't know. Like, I I don't know what Reeves has planned for this movie. I don't know other than like Court of Owls seems like the safe bet for whatever the ultimate thing is gonna be. Did they say when this movie comes out? Uh I don't think until 2028. I I don't think, because it's it's it's just starting shooting now. They literally just started shooting two days ago. So I I think it's a 2028 release, if I'm not mistaken, or end of December 2027, something like that. So Yeah. Yeah. Um I won't get a trailer until like next summer or something. I'm not clamoring for this movie. I still would have opted to get a DCU Batman movie or him included in the universe rather than then them coming back to do this. Um, but we'll see how it goes. It's been however many years since it's been. It took them four years just to write this script, and then there's talks of a potential third one, which has me even more like, oh, we're never getting a DCU Batman. Like, this is gonna be what we're stuck with is Batman for a while. Um so yeah, there's there's rumors of a third one that that you know the whole plan is to do a Reeves trilogy. And cool, like if you like this version of Batman, all the power to you, but it's it's not Batman for me. Like the the real world element is is cool for people who want to see that, but and it it's a groundbreaking take on the character, like it's not something anyone's ever done with Batman before. We're outside of like the Keaton stuff. But I I'm here for for the more inline Batman stuff, especially with with Guns DC Universe. It's it's time. You gotta pull that trigger. You can't you gotta stop shying away from it, in my opinion. Um you want to get into the Paramount stuff next, or yeah, so um the Department of Justice did approve the Paramount deal for $111 billion. Uh no surprise there, as we know the Ellisons are very much uh close with the White House and the administration. But New York, California have opted to sue Paramount to try to stop the merger from happening. Uh the UK will also weigh in. They have uh delayed the the merger at least until 2027 because they need time to review all the facts. But it does violate antitrust laws in the UK, and they will probably if if if we have any chance of stopping this merger from happening, the United Kingdom is pretty much our number one shot of possibly making that happen. Um, it doesn't seem like our senators and congressmen give a shit regarding this, but at least New York and California both did opt to sue to try to stop this from happening because it's going to result in a lot of job loss for a lot of people, and it's gonna result in an industry where a lot of people can no longer work at two of the biggest studios in the entire country. So you're gonna be cutting off not only actors, your staff, writers, audio engineers, people that work behind the scenes, set designers, makeup artists, like all of these people and all of these careers are gonna literally be slashed in half because now you have one less studio. So it's gonna be interesting. Um, it's it's definitely going to affect things. It's it's definitely gonna have an impact having one company control that much of the nation's media under under one place. So yeah, I I you know I hope this gets stopped, but we'll see what happens.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I hope it gets stopped too. You said it, you said it just as well as I probably would have put it up to together. So they they need to get it together, and I'm glad New York is stinking in their New York state of mind.

SPEAKER_02

I'm sure I'm sure New Jersey will jump in on it too, because um Yeah, exactly. She seems to be more in line with like New York and what they're doing for the most part. Um, but it'll be interesting to see if any other states jump in on this and and try to try to stop it from happening. It we're gonna see. It's gonna play out at least until 2027 with the UK. Um and whatever other delays may come, this this could get held up by Congress. They they could decide to to want to vote on this, but the Department of Justice did sign off on it completely. So they're they're not gonna have any issues regarding it. But that's what you know the administration had told the Ellisons originally was they weren't gonna have any interference if they did this, that this whole deal would go through, and so far that's what we're seeing happen. So more than likely this is gonna happen. Um, it's just a matter of time, but we'll we'll see. We can always hope that for some reason this deal falls through and and or gets stopped by one of these entities. Um in DC News, we we I still had a couple more things I wanted to talk about. Um Absolute Absolute Batgirl was announced uh from Scott Snyder. So um she's gonna be popping up. Barbara's been involved in the absolute comics universe now since pretty much Batman 1 or Batman 2. Um, so he showed off design work for what she's gonna look like, pretty much the same as Bruce, just in a trench coat. Um, and she's got some different gadgets and stuff like that. So that'll be interesting. Yeah, I like that. That'll be interesting to see uh her debut. And then we also got some more information on my adventures with Green Lantern. Um I I'm gonna have a hard time. I'm gonna butcher the shit out of this name. Aluli Caravino is gonna voice Jessica Cruz. Um she's going to appear in this new season of My Adventures with Superman as a fan, a teen girl who's a fan of Superman, and then her show will spin off from there of her getting the ring and becoming a superhero. So it's gonna be like a teen, Jessica Cruz. Um, that's gonna be the portrayal for that. So we'll see how that that goes. Uh Kilowak and Kyle are also supposed to be part of the show, so it it it's gonna be interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, I'm really excited for the My Adventures of Green Lantern. Um, I do have my report, and uh, I guess we'll all talk more about that on the what we're watching uh for the first episode of uh My Adventures of Superman and just seeing seeing this go forward. Um I'm really I'm just really excited. Um one thing I didn't know about the adventures of Superman, real quick, is that I didn't know James was the executive producer on this.

SPEAKER_02

So he's the executive producer of everything, DC.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but I didn't know it would with the show, he would still be it, but that does make sense.

SPEAKER_02

Kevin McGee's back run. Yeah, they're the they're the president and vice president. They're they're executive producers on literally everything. Um yeah, I didn't get around to I'm uh it's an anime show, so it's not really my thing, um, even though it's super.

SPEAKER_00

It is, but it's not, but yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So um I've never watched it. I I couldn't give you any insight on it. All I know is that uh you know, her show will be spinning off of this this latest season. So look for that. I I don't really know when it's supposed to come out, but I'm assuming probably sometime soon. They didn't show like any concept or like they showed off concept art and stuff like that, and like I guess animation from her appearance, but they didn't, and they showed Kyle and Kilowag, but they were just still, so it wasn't a trailer. So I don't I'm my guess is they're probably not gonna talk about it too much until she appears in the Superman. Um, what do you got for Comics of the Week this week?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Comics of the Week, we have the third um issue of Daredevil. Um right now we well, like I said last time, Spider-Man just popped up out of nowhere. And um, since the events that happened with the the villain that they're going through, who kind of looks like is looks like a muse and like he knows all about um Matt, he um Spider-Man is he he made him kind of like forget his his memory and he hasn't been focused since then because he's been so shook on how cool this person is that knows Matt. And Spider-Man uh came in and is kind of giving him a pep talk on like kind of like to use your senses because they both have those keen senses and their abilities. And I I really found that part of the of the of this issue to be really cool. Um and overall, I'm just loving what Stephanie Phillips is doing with this. The colorists on this, I think it's Frank Miller, who also I think did some stuff in the um in the Captain America series that I also talk about a lot here. Um it's just it's just so different from for what Marvel's been doing. Um it does take a lot of like that inspiration from what I'm seeing colorist-wise in DC side um to to on uh to hear. And yeah, that's that's definitely my comic of the week. Um I also did pick up some other things, but uh uh I'll I'll let you go for right now before I go so I can check that out. But yeah, those that that Daredevil was my top.

SPEAKER_02

So so uh my number one for this week was uh absolute catwoman number one, um the Cuban version of Selena Kyle, which is really, really awesome uh to see. She's a refugee that came over as a child, and so that's the change to her story. Um, Scott Snyder, again, just absolutely killing this and doing a great job with this series. Um she was trained by Wayland in this book, just like everybody else who was, you know, part of the friend group that we've seen. She's also trained by Lady Shiva. Um, you're gonna come to find out that part of the League of Assassins uh was still that Joker thought he killed off. Uh Lady Shiva somehow survived and So did Cassandra Kane, and Cassandra Kane is part of this Catwoman group that uh you know she's facing off against. So that was the big reveal at the end that Cassandra Kane is one of the the other Catwoman, and we're getting a one-shot for Cassandra Kane that's gonna be coming uh as part of the absolute universe. So really cool. Highly recommend picking this up because it was really, really awesome. And then the other thing, um, I'm from New Jersey, I gotta support The Secret Stash and Jay and Silent Bob. Uh, this was a lot of fun. So I I follow Kevin Smith. Um, I've you know, I've been fortunate enough to meet him a bunch. I go to his movie theater a lot and and go watch movies with him a lot. Um, so I've heard him talk about this series quite a bit. Um, this was originally an idea that he pitched back in Maul Rats, so uh 1994, I believe, is when Maul Rats came out, 1996, something around that. Stan Lee's in the movie. So when he had Stan Lee there and got Stan Lee there, he had pitched this story to Stan. And Stan said, Well, if the movie's a hit, I'll I'll give you the shot to do it. And the movie flopped, and Kevin never got the chance to do the story. Fast forward all of these years later, you know, over 20 years later, and he got the shot to tell the story that he wanted to tell. So this was really fun. It's just a one shot. There's not any more issues to this. It's a one and done. You read the issue and it's over. It's a really, really fun crossover, especially if you're a fan of like the Kevin Smith movies and the universe. There's a lot of Easter eggs and callbacks to different movies. Uh, there's an Alan Alanis Morissette Jesus reference from from uh so all kinds of fun stuff. And believe it or not, um the way it all transpires is that Silent Bob creates a strain of marijuana that eventually will create world peace and it will make us susceptible to an alien invasion from outside because everyone on the planet will be using this strain in in food, in water, in all kinds of things. Um so the whole Marvel universe, Doom, tries to get told by Kang and basically tries to kill Silent Bob and Jay. And so they're being protected by some of the heroes of the Marvel universe. There's a fun bit with with uh uh Sue Storm and Jay and a lot of just funny references. So yeah, if you're a fan of like stuff like that and just laughing um you know at something crazy, definitely pick it up. It was fun.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome. Yeah, so the other one that I had, I'm not opening it, but I did I did read it online. But so it was Avengers Armageddon. Um I I did pick up the number one because it is the number one, and I wanted to have it. I do like the fact that they put it in a plastic and kind of make it feel like a like an event. So that was that was cool. Um, and surprisingly enough, I'm liking what I'm seeing here. Although it is very much the same thing we've seen in Doom in One World After Doom, and in pretty much like Civil War, and and like a lot of the same uh therasteries and like storyline tidbits that we're getting here.

SPEAKER_02

But it is a continuation of One World of Doom, yeah. It's but that's what I mean. It's like the same thing again. Yeah, that's all it is. It's just with Red Hulk now instead of Doom. That's why I didn't even bother it up. I I didn't even didn't even read it.

SPEAKER_00

The one thing I that I do feel like was is good might make this a little different is the fact that because I was also reading the Wolverine um Umbergett and stuff. The orange uh yeah, well, not the Origin box stuff, which is which is cool too. But the the fact that there's a new character in here, uh his name is like David Orman or something like that. But this guy is damn near like fucking Superman. And him and the other mutant that that they copied from Wolverine, he's he's not introduced yet, but I know he's in the background somewhere. But um, he's that guy that I talked about in the beginning, David. He's he's he is basically now with the Avengers, but at first he was considered a threat. But um, I think his character might add a lot to the story, and I just want to see where they go with it. Um, I'm not gonna pick it up again, but I will find a way to read issue two.

SPEAKER_02

But I did want to have issue now. The origin boxes are gonna come into play big time. They're they they come over from the ultimate universe and the the uh that whole event. Um there are gonna be some new heroes that are born out of this and villains that are born out of this using the origin boxes, and they're also gonna tweak some characters using the origin boxes. So some of these characters are gonna get power upgrades or changes in their appearance and stuff like that because they're gonna open the origin boxes. Um, and Miles brought them back from the ultimate universe, so it's kind of his responsibility to look after them, and he fucked it all up. So um, yeah, I I'm not reading the event. I I have no plans on tuning in on the event or even finding out like what happens in it. I I'm not reading the Avengers book that's gonna spin out of it, so like I'm good on all of that. But um yeah, right now, Marvel wise, I think Spider-Man is the only thing that like I'm really praising. Um, I really like the Joe Kelly run so far. I think it's been fun. Um, and then we're we're gearing up towards issue a thousand, so that'll be cool to see how that all plays out. Uh, what what were you watching this week? You got Superman, you said.

SPEAKER_00

So, yeah, Superman, uh my Avengers of Superman was really great. Um, it's it still plays on all the great things that I loved about the the last two seasons. Um, we start off getting introduced to them being in the Fortress of Solitude, which I thought was really cool. Uh Kalel and Ka Kara is are are in this show. She was introduced in the second season, but yeah, so now they're like pretty much together. Um, and then uh they there was this the first episode basically goes through like her becoming more into what Earth is like and things of that nature. Um, we dealt with a lot of brainiac stuff in the season two, so I actually have to do some refreshing because there's a part of this that I didn't remember. The interesting part about this is that at the end of this, we get our first look at I think his name is Henry Hank Hangshaw, but he's basically like the cyborg Superman. See, like I have no idea about some Superman stuff, so I didn't even know that those two were two different people. I always thought that was just Clark as a cyborg.

SPEAKER_02

Um, the cyborg Superman and and Superboy and all that, they come in the death of Superman. They're the reign of of Superman.

SPEAKER_00

So they give you the the introduction of basically Lex uh is taking that scientist, Henry Henkshaw, whatever his name is, and he's basically gonna be bringing the cyborg Superman into the season. Um and Deathstroke is in this as well, so he's basically just like his henchman, like doing whatever he needs him to do. But overall, it was a good season. Uh, we also oh I forgot, we also got an introduction of Superboy as well. Um, the the one that's from Young Justice. Connor. Um Connor, yeah. He's in the Seekers Institution as well. So it's it's it's very fun. I uh what I love most about this is because of the fact that I'm not the biggest Superman person. So there's a lot of things that I get introduced to that are very brand new, and it kind of makes it feel refreshing for me because for all I know, is just the main, you know, Baniac, leg fucking uh steel. You gotta go those like very main level.

SPEAKER_02

You gotta go back and watch Superman. That's your reading, or watch go back and watch the movie. They did the whole movie. Okay. But overall, it's been great. So I finished White Lotus. Um overall, the first season for me was my favorite season of the show. The second season was better, the third season was bad. Um I'm interested. I'm interested to see what they do for this next season. Like I said, uh Chloe Bennett from Agency Shield is gonna be on the new season. So I'm excited for her to get that opportunity and get to see, you know, what they end up doing. I think it's in France for the next season. I'm also I'm assuming the one storyline is gonna continue to carry over because the one storyline seems to be the one consistent storyline that they've done through all three seasons so far. So I'm assuming we're gonna continue to see like the events of that or see some of those characters cross back over. But um, yeah, the the first season was great. The the second season had some ups and downs, and then the third season I thought Jason Isaacs and Goggins were gonna do it for me because they're both phenomenal actors, and I just found myself like tuning out with the third season and and didn't really care. So um check it out if you want to. I I wouldn't I I would recommend watching the show. It's just you know, that third season was tough to get through. Uh I kept like checking to see like where I'm at and what how many more episodes I had left before it was over.

SPEAKER_00

That's what I heard about the third season. I like I remember the the rave for season one and season two, and then season three it was kind of like radio silent, and I was like, oh that much me, it wasn't that great.

SPEAKER_02

The other thing I checked out was the vampire Lassat. Um so if you have not seen Interview with a Vampire that's on AMC, not the Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt one, the original one, go watch season one and two of Interview with a Vampire on Netflix. Um, it is a phenomenal show. Really great performances by by everybody who's involved in it. And this is the continuation of the show now with uh with Lesat. And you're you're dealing with his character and him being the main focal point of this new show. Um so far, up that I think two episodes have dropped, so I've watched the first two episodes, and um it's really good. If you've enjoyed Interview with the Vampire, I would definitely recommend checking this out and just continuing the story because it's essentially season three with a totally different name, just shifting focus over on the other character. So it's pretty cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's funny you say that. It's funny you say that because that's literally was on my agenda for what's what to watch next. Um that and I've been hearing really good things about um Widows Bay, yeah, Widows Bay on Apple TV. Um, I'm hearing really good things about that. So I don't watch a lot of the Apple shows.

SPEAKER_02

I have Apple, I just never check it to see what's on there. So like Shrinking and Monarch are like the only two shows I've ever watched on Apple. I never go to it to like watch movies or watch shows because I forget about it, honestly. But yeah, definitely. Yeah, they're located custom bangers on there. Definitely recommend going to check out Interview with a Vampire. That that show is really, really good, and and like I said, all the actors involved are are phenomenal. So this is essentially season three. So you if you're if you are going in to watch like the Lasat show, definitely go back and watch the first two seasons because you're gonna need to know everything that happened. Um, but really great so far.

SPEAKER_00

I also, besides of uh Superman, I did end up watching They Will Kill You with uh Zazi Beats. I turned it on. Um, I almost did too. But I was like, I want to I want to see where this goes because I started it. I needed, I want to just finish it so that way I can have a full experience and a full opinion on it. And you are right, this movie was fucking retarded, bro.

SPEAKER_02

I made it I made it less than a half an hour into it and turned it off and was like, and I never turn off movies, even bad movies, and I turned this off and I was like, this is garbage, like horrible fucking movie.

SPEAKER_00

So it's like a it was dead ass, a clone, well, a wannabe clone of Kill Bill. No, and that's the thing that pisses me off so much.

SPEAKER_02

It was a clone of Kill Bill and Ready or Not. They merged the two and did like their own own like B level version of it, and it's shit, man. It is a horrible fucking movie. Like it's on HBO Max. Uh, that was the new movie they released this week, and yeah, it was fucking awful. Um, definitely wouldn't have been people bothering it.

SPEAKER_00

It the the trailers were fire as fuck. So I remember when I was when it was coming out, I always said, like, damn, I don't want to watch that because the trailers look dope. Um, but like that's the thing that missing me off is because the fact that it is Zaza Beats um playing the main role and it has like that Tarantino sense to it, it it just makes me more upset of like, why haven't we got like a sequel to Kill Bill where the the bride's daughters come after uh what's her name? Uh very uh the Kill Bill's the main person from Kill Bill. Like, why hasn't why has yeah, why hasn't they made something like that? Because I'm looking at these two and I'm just like this is this is dumb, but it's not dumb.

SPEAKER_02

Tarantino's a weirdo, and rather start beef with people in Hollywood than than just continue to make shit. That's kind of basically the the gist of it. Yeah, it's been kicking around, there was rumors, there was rumors that he was gonna come back and do it, and it just never happened. Um kind of the same thing would happen like with Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he bailed on the sequel of that, and somebody else did it. So yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, the movie was was was not that great. I did write a review on it on Little Box, so there's that. Um and yeah, like I didn't even do that. What a fucking weird movie, man. What a weird movie.

SPEAKER_02

I I just I found it so hard to um to actually like watch and like just get in like the from the start of the movie, it was just all over the place, and I was just like, yeah, no, I'm out. Um I did watch uh Ready Player One for the first time the other day. Oh wow, you never that's awesome. No, um I it S Spielberg, I was trying to just like I was going through like Spielberg movies, and um I I had happened to never see that movie. I enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty decent. So that's up on HBO.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's the same way he's driving through well the that same way he's driving through the highway and you see like King Kong and like fucking iron robot iron robot and all that was was fun.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they they got the pairing of all the IPs. It was a cool concept. I liked it. I thought it was an interesting, interesting thing. You would definitely never know that it was a Steven Spielberg movie though, like without his name being all over it, just because of the the CGI and the animation and all that stuff. Like, that's not usually something that he does. So yeah, otherwise, um that'll pretty much do it for this episode of Talking Soups. Uh, like I said, if you made it this far, please make sure to like, comment, subscribe, give us a follow, uh, give us a review on Spotify or Apple or wherever you're listening to us. It'll greatly help. And we'll be back next week with another episode. Peace.
