Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome to another episode of Talkin' Supes. I'm Ed from Ways of the Saint. And I'm Onday Gotcha. What's going on, everybody? What's going on? We are back for another fantastic week. We got a lot to talk about on this episode. If this is your first time listening, we are a comic book, movie, and television podcast. We discuss all things nerd fandom uh going on in Hollywood, rumors, news, all of that good stuff. So if you're just tuning in for the first time, please make sure to like, comment, subscribe, give us a follow. If you're listening on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, or if you're watching us on YouTube, please make sure to give us a follow and leave a comment. Sir So uh first and foremost, I wanted to get this out of the way at the beginning of the show. I saw this trailer months ago. Um nothing about this is different, but I know it's a big point for for Anday, and I know it's something that he's excited about. So the Doomsday trailer finally came out to the public. And um, so go ahead, give us your your thoughts and your reaction on this this trailer.

SPEAKER_01

So, yes, the doomsday trailer finally came out. Um, the screen is I'm so happy that we can finally stop complaining about us not getting a trailer, and it's here now. So I was hyped for this. Um, I'm I've I got my ticket, I'm seated, I'm ready to go already for it. Um and I just seeing all these characters on screen for the first time is well, not for the first time, I would say. Well, yeah, yeah, it is because we never seen uh the Fantastic Four and the Wakandens all together like this. Um, so this that part of this is was what has me the most hype. And uh I gotta say, Robbie Dona Jr. and his accent on this. I mean, why would we ever think that he wouldn't be able to do something like this when this is the guy who played uh African American Tropic Thunder? So um he's he's killing it. If this is the the that's his voice. Um and uh I just I'm I just can't wait to see what this movie goes. Um, there's a lot of nostalgic bait that they put into this, and I know that's a controversial take for some people, but for me, I'm I'm in love with it. Um, I'm here for the fun of this movie and everything else that may come with it, but yeah, I was I was satisfied with what the trailer brought me. Um, I know it is the same as the the Cinemacon stuff, but I did notice well from what people said that they added the Loki scene, that was a little bit different, but other than that, it was pretty the same.

SPEAKER_00

So you know when you're dating a girl and you guys break up and she tells you all the things she wants in a guy, and then you try to get her back by being that guy, that's what this fucking trailer is. That's exactly what this trailer is. This trailer is hey, we lost three-quarters of the audience, so let's try to bait you and and and get you to come see this movie because you haven't come to see the last couple things that we've done. Um the CGI is not finished in this trailer. The the doom scene you can clearly tell that the CGI is not done. Um, we're what four months out from this movie being released to the public. That's a horrible look. Um, everything in this trailer is green screen and CGI. There's one shot, I think, of a practical set, the rest of it is all CGI and green screen. Um we're gonna talk about it, but we both just saw the Odyssey. I cannot, in good conscience, go see the Odyssey and then come look at this trailer and be like, oh, this is the best thing I ever seen, because it's not. The Odyssey was the best thing I've ever seen. Um this just I feel like everything we saw in this trailer is the movie. I don't think there's there's much else that they have in this for this movie set up other than everything that we saw in this trailer. Um you're gonna see some cool little fights between some of the X-Men characters and some of the Avengers, and you're gonna see, you know, Cassie Lang with her dad, and you're gonna see Steve Rogers, who to me that was the only good part of this trailer. Um that final scene and with Thor and Cap to me was the only thing that I was like, all right, that's cool. I I'm interested to see Cap's storyline for this movie. Otherwise, nothing else about this movie hooks me. You're going in with a team of Avengers that most people don't know who they are. A majority of the audience had not seen Thunderbolts, a majority of the audience had not seen Fantastic Four, a majority of the audience really didn't come out to see Black Panther 2. So you're gonna have all of these characters and cast, and then you're going back to bring all the X-Men back. I don't know how that's gonna do for mainstream audiences. I can tell you I saw a ton of fake accounts that were commenting on Marvel's post because Marvel, I see you. You got a ton and ton of bots that follow your pages, and you you post these little bot replies to all your stuff. It's very clear as somebody who's like on social media, I can see who's a bot and who's not. Um there was at least I want to say at least 2,000 comments from just straight bots on their their post today for the trailer. So, like, this is what they did for Fantastic Four, this is what they did for the Marvels. They they faked audience engagement to try to get people to see it, and it it still didn't turn out well. What happens now with this? Um because I'll be honest, it came and went on social media, it was a big thing for all of maybe an hour, and then after that, it that was it. It it's it's not something people are still talking about and still going on about. I think it's a little too late at this point for this. Um, this was a trailer that should have been shown off at Cinemacon. This should have been a whole new trailer than the trailer that was shown at CinemaCon. And uh yeah, that's all I really gotta say about this. I'm not excited about this movie. I I really have no interest in going to see it, honestly. Um, I'm going to see Dune 3 that day. That's that's my decision. That's where I'll be. This, I'll either get to it when I get to it or I'll get to it when it comes on Disney Plus. I'm in no rush to go see this. Even my buddy who who went with me to go see the Odyssey the other day, we were talking about this, we were talking about Spider-Man. He doesn't have an interest in seeing either one of those movies. And and this is somebody who's like a comic fan. We go to the same comic book shop and have been for the past 20 years. So this is an active comic book fan that's like, nah, man, I'm good on all that shit. Like, I'm I'm I'm I don't need to see it. So I I I don't know how this does for them. I don't know if it tracks the way they think it's going.

SPEAKER_01

One one thing I would say what you said was like I don't see any that like the Odyssey as a is a is a what is it's just like a different beast in itself because that movie can step on anything. So like as far as visually, like you can't you can't compare those two, and plus they're both totally different genres of movies. So it's like they're like apples to apples to oranges in a sense.

SPEAKER_00

It's it's it's not though. We're talking about the same thing. It is the same thing. We're talking about two of Hollywood's best directors. You have the Russo brothers and you have Christopher Nolan. You're talking about cinematography and shots. When we talk about the Odyssey, the Odyssey doesn't have CGI all over it. But nothing in that movie was green screen. Those are all practical locations, actual boats, actual.

SPEAKER_01

But that was Nolan's decision to do that. Yeah. That's not what the Russo and the Russo make a comic loop.

SPEAKER_00

And what the Russos are doing, it's green screen and CGI. To me, that's not movie making, guys. Like that's not cinematography, that's not some big vision. I can go do that in my garage. I can literally set up a green screen and make myself do whatever the fuck I want. That's not like acting, that's not cinematography, that's not high caliber shit. What we saw in the Odyssey was high caliber movie making from top to bottom, across the board.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but we weren't saying this type of stuff when the Mandalorian came out with the fucking vision. So it's like the same scenario.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I did say this stuff with the Mandalorian, though, that it was all green screen, it was shot on the volume. What are we talking about?

SPEAKER_01

But I didn't take away from what the I didn't take away from the greenness of it and how how good it was.

SPEAKER_00

It it did take away from a lot of a lot of the movie though, because you could spot out when it was the volume, when it was practical effects, and when it was all CGI. Like some of the CGI in that movie looked bad. We talked about it on this show, so yeah, we did. I pointed it out very clearly that I had issues with a lot of the CGI and stuff that was in Mandalorian. Because that this is what we're talking about. There's there's movie making, and then there's this, and this stuff quickly becomes hey, we're just gonna let AI go do it. And because we don't actually need people to go do it, we can go do this in a in a AI setting. What Christopher Nolan did is there's a difference.

SPEAKER_01

And it is, and it is, but I don't just don't think that takes away from the type of movie it is, you know. Like I feel like it has been around for forever. Yeah, it's but it it's it's doing it. And for the average person, that's not something that they're looking at, though. Like for movie buffs like us, of course, we'll we're seeing each and everything, but for average people, that's not the first thing. That's what I'm talking about.

SPEAKER_00

I don't necessarily want to go see a movie that's all green screen. Like, I don't. I really don't. I don't want to sit there. Fantastic four. I could literally point out the green screen in all of the shots. Oh, that's a green screen. Oh, that's a green screen. You could see it. To me, that takes me completely out of the movie, dude. Like once I see something like that in a movie, I'm done. I don't, I'm not tuned in, I'm not locked in, I don't care. Like, same thing with this. I watch this trailer, it's all green screen. There's maybe a couple things that are actual sets, like where Thor and Cap are. Otherwise, it's all fucking CGI. Like, all right, great, I can do that in my garage.

SPEAKER_01

That's not there's not you're you're completely right because because of today's technology and all that that comes with it. But as far as what the movie is bringing to us with the characters, and I feel like story-wise, I I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. That shot with Thor and fucking Dr. Doom looks sick as sh it looks sick, and I want to see where that goes. I also feel like it's not even like a real thing. I think Doom is fucking with him, but still, like this the shot is amazing. I know they the Roosters brothers said it the Roosters brothers themselves said that they're gonna be working on this till like the last fucking.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because they're not done with the special effects. They fired half their crew, that's why they were gonna work on this till the last minute. You can see it in the trailer. The special effects still aren't done for the the trailer that they showed to the world. Like, this is just to me, already has a bad taste, and everything that we keep hearing about this X-Men shit and whatever's planned next, it just keeps adding that bad taste in my mouth of like, I don't care what you're fucking doing. Give me X-Men 97 where I can be happy and watch something that I have nostalgia for, and the rest of it I could give two fucks about. Like, I really do not care about this movie whatsoever. And I'm sorry that you do, but I don't. Um, Robert Downey Jr. sounds like that. That's your own opinion, dude. Robert Downey Jr. Like should have never came back to play Doom. I understand what they're doing, it should have never happened. Um, this whole thing, it's based around Chris Hermsworth and and Steve Rogers being the two main characters of this whole movie because they're the only two characters that anybody knows. I'm sorry, nobody gives a fuck about it. But that's not a bad thing. That's not a bad thing. That's not a bad thing. Whatever they're gonna fucking do. Like, they could wipe out this whole cast in the beginning of this movie, and I don't think anybody would care. Like, that's the sad part. All that X-Men cast is gone in the beginning of the movie. Like, I can guarantee you that. They're not sticking around for the whole fucking thing. Most of them are gonna die. I wouldn't be shocked to see most of the some of these other characters, like I said, some of the Thunderbolts, some of these other like low C level, D level characters that you don't need to tell this story, easily just take them off the board and have Doom kill them early on in the movie and just move the fuck on and give us the actual Avengers that people want to see. You have Spider-Man, you have Hulk, you have the main characters that are not in this movie. Get rid of the characters that don't belong in this shit and give us the characters that people want to see. Maybe Secret Wars will be a different thing, but I can tell you as somebody who already knows what this plot line and what this layout is of this movie, they gave you what this movie is in this fucking trailer, and that's a sad fucking thing coming from a Marvel project. Like that trailer is the movie, and and I don't I without sitting here and breaking it down to you, that's it. Like, that's what you're getting.

SPEAKER_01

I know you I know you because you talked about this last you talked about this last episode, how you see in the leaks script, but it's still like it's a rumor. You don't really know if that's really the leaks script or not. No, but the thing too I wanted to ask you is is do you from what you heard, if you're hearing from what Robbie Donner Jr. is bringing to this role and off of what you heard in the trailer, the you don't think that's like magnificent or like pretty like shocking to hear him acting that way?

SPEAKER_00

No, because you know he can do that, or because sounds like Sherlock Holmes. He sounds exactly how he did in the Sherlock Holmes movie. But Doom is is what like from Europe, so he's supposed to have an accent. He's Latvarian. He's supposed to, he's supposed to be Latvarian, supposed to have a heavy accent.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't know what the hell he Robert Downey Jr. is. The fact that he can but the fact that he's doing that, and you wouldn't, I would I didn't know how he was gonna sound because I couldn't even imagine if he can even take it there with that in a performance. So to hear that is like, wow, okay, this is dope. Like they're actually going accurate with him. Does nothing for me.

SPEAKER_00

Like, I don't he could not be in this movie, and I wouldn't give a shit either way. Like, it doesn't really that's what I'm saying.

SPEAKER_01

His presence in this, but that's why people want to see the movie too. For his his presence and do and depends on them and uh Evans coming back is Evans is the only thing that has me interested.

SPEAKER_00

Like I said, that's the only interesting storyline for this whole entire movie. You could have done a whole Chris Evans movie, and I would have loved to go see that, but I don't care about this. Like, don't do not care, have no excitement. I'm at a zero for this movie, absolute zero. Like, do not care. Especially after coming out of the theater last night, which is what we're gonna go into now. I went and saw the Odyssey last night, you went and saw it over the weekend. Coming out of this theater, I'm I'm really like high on this movie. Like, it is literally in my top four movies of all time. This story alone, The Odyssey and the Iliad, are two of my favorite stories ever done in literature. Um, I've read them multiple times. I said this on the last podcast. I'm a big Greek mythology person, so like the history of Greece, the the myths, all the things that go on in the stories are something that like I study, I I read about, I watch documentaries all the time. To see the Odyssey done in this way, just absolute fucking perfection. I have a couple little things that are you know nitpicks, but again, like I just said, the fact that this whole movie was done with minimal CGI, that these were all real location shot. Those were all real ships on water, those were all real sets that they built or real castles or real things that they they found locations for. I'm sorry, you can you cannot talk about top directors of all time without putting Christopher Nolan at the top of that fucking list right now. Um, especially when you read down his resume of movies, you can't argue it anymore. You could have argued it maybe a couple movies ago, but I think the argument is done with Oppenheimer being his last one, and then this let the man do whatever he wants from here on out, which supposedly is gonna be a horror movie next. That's that's kind of what he keeps talking about, is that he he had fun doing this and that he wants to do a horror movie next.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so you it's funny you pointed that out because um in this movie I got little glimpse and peeps of how a horror movie would be by Nolan, and it's pretty uh psychedelic for the most part. Um, but as far as my opinions on the Odyssey, I I can't I agree with you with that 100%. Nolan is is goaded as far as directors right now. Um and I can't wait to see what he comes out with next. But this movie was really fucking amazing. Um I don't I'm now I'm not as um diversed into the Odyssey story. I do remember it in like we did we read about the Odyssey in like high school or something like that, I remember. But uh that's as far as it went for me. Um and then other than that, um whatchamacallit, uh just the performance in here was was great. Um I loved I saw this in IMAX. Um not 40 millimeter, but just regular IMAX regular like laser IMAX. Yeah. And um it did it justice. Um and I still feel like if I was to go see the movie regular in this normal AMC or Regal somewhere, I still think the movie would do justice. Yeah, it did. It did.

SPEAKER_00

I don't have an I don't have an IMAX theater anywhere near me. Like the closest IMAX theater is is over two hours away from me. So um I went and saw this in regular format. I loved it. Like we we went uh we got like it was in the big theater in my Plex, and um so the screen was gigantic, it was awesome. Like the pack theater, which I haven't experienced for a movie in quite some time, which was pretty fucking awesome. Yeah. Just to hear, you know, like you you you kind of get a better gauge for like how people are enjoying it when you can kind of look around and just see people's reactions or or hear, you know, their reactions to things. And and the last couple movies I saw, I haven't gotten to see that. Like, you know, Toy Story, I went late at night, had an empty theater, Supergirl, same thing. Um, Mandalorian and Grogu, there was nobody there for both showings. So, like this was the first time I actually got to see like a mostly a mostly packed theater that like was just loving this movie from start to finish. And like they did do some things out of order from the book, like some of the events take place in different order. Um, they did skip a couple of the stops like along the way and and some of the things that happen. I I felt like so, like initially, the initial review that I heard going into the movie was like the first 45 minutes has a little bit of slow slowness to it, and then the movie picks up. I I kind of felt that way. Like there were a couple bits in the initial 45 minutes where I was like, all right, you could maybe speed this along a little bit, or maybe cut this out, or kind of get, you know, a little bit more. And then the other thing for me was was Troy. I was like, why are they not showing what actually happened at Troy? And then they saved it for the last hour and a half of the movie to kind of break up the movie a little bit more with the story. Um so I love that. And the the crazy the crazy part for this was that Christopher Nolan was originally supposed to direct Troy, the Brad Pitt movie that that happened. Uh in what was that, early 2000s? Um, whatever happened, there was some kind of thing with the rights deal, and the original guy bought the rights back, and he's the one who ended up making Troy. Christopher Nolan, as a result, got the Dark Knight trilogy, and that's how he ended up making the Dark Knight trilogy. So, because of the success of Oppenheimer, he was able to circle back around to come back to this Odyssey story and do it the way he wanted to do it, and incorporate Troy in the story, which it is in the book, um, but obviously from the Troy standpoint, you were watching it from Achilles rather than Odysseus. You know what I mean? You were seeing the different sides. And Achilles was not somebody that they featured in this movie, which I would have loved to see a Brad Pitt cameo, but he is a little a lot older than he was at the time. So, like that would have been fun to like have a Brad Pitt cameo in this movie playing Achilles, but to two things to what you said.

SPEAKER_01

So for me, when I first walked in, uh I it started at one, and then I went to get something to drink. So then I walked in at 1.08 to the movie, and it had already started already. So I was thinking the same thing of like uh I know this is about like the Trojan horse and all that stuff. Like, why are why did I miss that part or not? So I was worried about that. So then when when I'm watching the movie and I noticed like they say that for the end, I was happy that to know that I didn't finish that. Um and then the second thing the second thing I wanted to announce is the the um I really appreciate them uh having the dialogue be so straightforward and it not being like in that poetic uh way like how we're used to hearing in like these no Norse mythology or even like in like Game of Thrones to an ascent to an extent. Um that really made the movie seem uh with the times now, but also still like in its own time period as well. And I really appreciated that because I think it made the movie it made the movie more understanding and engaging.

SPEAKER_00

Even having Travis Scott as the poet um was was a way to like do it differently. Um and he he put on an accent, which I was surprised because like me and my buddy were talking about this after the movie. People like Pattinson, people like Tom Holland, who have English accents, didn't use the English accent, they used their American accent, which I thought was weird. Um I would have expected them to do more of like the English or try to like mimic the Greek a little bit, but that was one thing like you said about this movie that yeah, no one did accents, no one put them on. Even Matt Damon's crew was was all different races and minorities that like wouldn't have been there at the time. Um so it was it was different, it was interesting. Uh the fact that they used Elliot Page um in in that role was was interesting to me too. Um and and Helen, the the big controversy around Loop Lupa playing Helen of Troy really was a uh a nothing burger simply because the fact she's in the movie for a whole 10 minutes. Like they don't even focus on her for the Troy story. They don't even kind of they don't dive into the reason of why Troy happens in the first place in this movie. It's just kind of like you're you kind of just go into it from Odysseus' standpoint rather than from like the Troy standpoint of like why the war started, why they went there, how they were trying to get into the gates of Troy. You just basically start from the Trojan horse and then work your way forward. So, like the kind of the backstory is Helena Troy was the most beautiful woman in in all of the world. Um, she was set to marry one of the kings. She fell in love with one of the other uh princes and ended up running off with him to Troy. And basically, in Troy, the their actual location for Troy is not in Greece itself, it's in Turkey, which is one of the neighboring countries. Um Troy was actually the legitimate spot for Troy was in Turkey, and it was basically a fortified uh castle that was kind of built into a mountain. So basically, you couldn't get in. It was impenetrable. It was one of the most safest cities that there was at that time that were like you could attack Troy all you want, but you couldn't get in. So hence the idea for the Trojan horse, and hence the idea for why they decided to pull their armies back, act like they all packed up and left the shore, and left this big giant horse as like a gift, and snuck themselves into the city so this way they could get in. And you know, that's that's the whole kind of premise of of why Troy and the Trojan horse, you know, exist in that essence. So it was cool that like that's where they started from, but it would have been nice to get a little bit more of like the the backstory of of why, especially if you weren't familiar, you know, as as to like what actually happened.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Well the politics and all that. Yeah, you're right. I would like to see that too. Now that I'm more interested in the story and to see what's gonna happen next.

SPEAKER_00

And you meet both the characters, you meet John Bernthal's character, and then you meet um the the king at the beginning. So, like who's got the black with the the gold down the back?

SPEAKER_01

Um so you get which by the way, I think there's a lot of like Nolan Easter eggs in this, and with that one specifically, if you're looking at it like from that angle, like from the front, that shit looks straight up like the Batman mask. Yeah, yeah, it does. It's like without a doubt. And I love that.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm wondering, I'm wondering if that was intentional. There, there were a lot of choices that were taken, like liberties with the armor, liberties with the the different the different stuff that they did. Like, and I could understand why like some of the Greek culture could be upset about this film because it it didn't pay homage to any of that. It it they kind of did their own interpretation of things um from top to bottom, just from the cast, from from everything. I I will say this did a lot for me with Tom Holland. Uh um Tom Holland, I I felt like he did a much better job in like a serious role. I'm so used to seeing him as Spider-Man, I'm so used to seeing him in other things that like where he's always comedic, he's always funny. To see him like play Odysseus's son in this role was was really good, I I thought. Um It was interesting to see Batman and Spider-Man talking about Batman trying to trying to bang his mom. Like that was a that was a fun thing that I kept like thinking about in the back of my head. I was like, Batman and Spider-Man are having a conversation right now. How could you not? With with the former catwoman, like as the mom. So it's just like a clusterfuck of shit there, like where your your mind's kind of like going, like, oh yeah, Ann Athaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson. Okay. Um and then the Punisher. Yeah, and Burndhal wasn't really in the movie as much as I thought he was gonna be either. I thought I originally I thought he was playing the Ryan Hearst character, um, which we'll talk more about Ryan Hearst later on in this episode. Um, which I thought, again, he was phenomenal being Tom Holland's like boy and and his training partner and like helping him along until he got poisoned later on in the in the film. Um, for me though, the standout performance in this whole entire thing, like Matt Damon fucking killed it. Matt Damon, phenomenal acting. I I want to say this might be Matt Damon's best movie that he's ever done. Like, honestly, performance-wise, I love The Martian, I love Goodwill Hunting. There's some other stuff that I've seen him in that I I love his performance in, but I really like felt he he put this whole thing on his back and carried this whole entire movie from start to finish and just did such a fantastic job. Um, but for me, John Leguizamo. Um, I didn't know he was in this movie to start off. So, like, that was a pleasant surprise when I saw him. And I just felt like me and my buddy were actually talking about John Leguizamo like maybe a couple weeks ago. And we were talking about, hey, remember like that run he went on? Like, you know, he did Super Mario Brothers, he did Spawn, he did uh Romeo and Juliet with uh Kate Winslit and Leonardo DiCaprio, like all these, all these classic movies like back in the day and just went on a tear, and then kind of uh didn't do much for a long time, but like to see him in this role and just killing it from top to bottom, like from the moment he's introduced to the very end of the movie, like I feel like he's gotta be nominated for Best Supporting Actor in this. Like, I would give him the nod over Tom Holland or Robert Pattinson when it comes down to it. Of like, if you have to pick one out of this movie, it would be John Liguazamo for me a hundred percent. Like, I just walked away like man, I I still love that guy. Like, I he's such a great actor, and I wish I want to see him in more stuff going forward. Like, I really now like am clamoring for John Liguazamo to get more roles going forward.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. With with John with John Lismo, um, I I met him two years ago at Comic-Con. He he actually has a comic that I had no idea about, so I had bought it and we took a pick, whatever. Amazing guy. Um, but I can't you I share the same sentiments with you here too. Um, didn't know he was in the movie as well, and you know, he has been underneath the radar for a long time. And to see him in this role, and from a friend of mine who did an interview with him uh on High 97 told me that like he has been on the low, but he has some shit cooking up. He definitely has some shit cooking off when you see him in this movie. Because wow, and um, I just this is just like a personal thing. I just love him and his like when he talks about you know the things that go on with Latino communities and always standing up for us in that regard, and he's just looking amazing actor. So to see when he's in person and then an amazing actor in this is this that combination is just bravo, give him his Oscar.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I I I feel like uh him and and Anne Hathaway would probably like for supporting actress. Um, Ann Hathaway. I know a lot of people had talked, like, so I I like her. I'm I've always been a fan of her, but I I know a lot of people in her last couple movies had kind of said that they felt like she kind of phoned it in a little bit. She wasn't like doing her best. In this, I feel like she she knocked it out of the park. I was really surprised to see um uh what what is her name? Mia Goth be like the handmaiden. I didn't expect that. I thought that was an interesting choice because like you you cast you cast a pretty big actress just to play like the side role. Um, there are some things that are different, obviously, from the book and from from this, like Odysseus, uh, spoiler alert. So if you want to fast forward, um Odysseus like doesn't take on all those guys at the end of the Odyssey. Um they just burn the house down, basically, with all the people in it. Um, so all of those people just end up getting burned, and Odysseus basically just lights the whole castle on fire, and like that's kind of the difference for the book versus the the the movie. Um this was cool for me. What really got me was the the story between Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon. Um, the the love story and how somebody could go so far and go through so much just to get back to the person that meant the most to him, and she and the fact that she waited as long as she did for him. She waited 17 years. Um so the because they were at war for 10 and then it took him seven another seven to get back. I will say I would would not have minded though being stuck on an island with Charlie Styron for for seven years. Um can't can't complain about that. Hers Calypso was fun too. Yeah, that was that was a fun bit. Um I I I will say though, and my buddy brought it up too and kind of made me think back. So in the in the in the last iteration of the Odyssey that they did, which I guess was a TV movie, it was like a two-parter for like sci-fi and NBC at the time. Um what is her name? Vanessa Williams plays um plays calypso. And I feel like she she might she maybe did a better job at it than Charlize Theron because there are elements of like in the books, especially too, it's more of like a sexual perversion than it is her giving him the lotus flower. Like in the in the movie, they did it where she just keeps feeding him the lotus flower and then he forgets everything. Right. In in the book, it's it's them knocking boots. Like every time he has sex with her, he forgets everything and kind of goes back to just being timid. So like there is some difference in in some of the way the story was presented, but I loved it. I I thought this whole entire thing was just fantastic from from start to finish.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, with the Ann with Anne Hathaway's performance, um uh and I really thought that it was like this her scene where sh where the Odyssey where Odysseus and well he's telling her basically like I'm gonna do this thing and I need you to be ready to to for it and I'm gonna come back home. And when she Yeah, and then when she smacks him, though that that like in instantly engagement. I was like, oh shit. Like that whole scene right there was was really fucking peaked.

SPEAKER_00

The scene for me between the two of them that got me was when he comes back and he's talking to her through the screen, and she knows it's him and he knows and and and he knows too, but he can't say it, and like neither one of them communicated to one another, but she knows the moment he's got the he tells the story about the pin, he wore this pin, and he's the first person that can tell her that he was wearing that pin, and like goes back to the conversation that you just said where she gave him the pin and told him, That's how I'll know if anyone's lying, because if they don't mention the pin, it's not you. And so, like, I love that. Like, it just it just shows like the strength of their bond and and a love that doesn't exist anymore, and it it's it's beautiful, you know what I mean? Like as somebody who has read the books and reads a lot of books, like to to see that type of love presented this way in this in this story was just fantastic.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I've really my favorite part of this whole movie was the cyclops scene because off of just seeing what I saw in the trailers, you just saw like glimpse of what the cyclops may look like. But then when you see the movie, you actually see it, and it's like basically like a a like an old man, like a real old man with just an eye on his head. It it it made it more like realistic to me of like, damn, maybe Cyclops can be real back in like in our history some type of way. But the part with uh specifically that I like the most is when um they get out, they they fake, they fake it out the cave or whatever to the sheeps, and the cyclops looks at him and he finally gets his get back and he hits him in the eye, and the cyclops goes crazy. I was just so happy that he got his get back in that situation. I mean, granted, he almost fucking got his whole crew killed. Well, he did get some of his crew killed, but it is what it is.

SPEAKER_00

And and that's that's why like their journey gets fucked up, is because the cyclops in the the Odyssey is the son of Poseidon. Um, so that's kind of what happens, is they and and that's kind of the common theme throughout this whole entire thing. It's it's the the laws of Zeus, it's basically the fact that anybody could be a god, and you never know who can be a god in disguise. So you have to enact these these rules of courtesy to people just in case somebody is a god in disguise. And you watch how these guys basically violate that that law at every chance they get. They violate it when they when they sneak into Troy by going into the horse, they violate it by killing and pillaging Troy and destroying the most beautiful city in the world. They violate it by spilling that girl's blood who Zendaya played in on the Temple of Athena and cutting off the head of Athena's statue. You desecrated the gods. You you you basically besmirched everything that's important to them. And I love that fact that Nolan Nolan could have incorporated all of the gods into this. They they could have actually had a presence in this movie, but they don't. The reason he sees Athena is because he he's thinking about that girl that he watched lose her head at Athena's temple. So in his mind, that's what Athena looks like is that girl that he watched die at the temple because he's trying to make amends because in that moment, when that happens, he realizes that he fucked up and that they shouldn't be here. Like this is a the he this is violating the rules. This is something that they shouldn't be doing. And it kind of catches up to him. And then you kind of see is like each each time he goes, he gets told, only you're gonna make it back. Your crew is gonna fuck up at every chance you they can get, and they're going to do it. And basically, you know, he's like, No, I'm gonna save them. We're all gonna go home. And you see that, like, no, the the the prophecies that he's told are right. Like his guys, you know, fuck up when they get to Cersei and get turned into pigs. They fuck up when they go to Apollo's Apollo's cattle, and they they kill Apollos Apollo's cattle, like all these little things. Even the the the Cyclops thing, they were ready to kill the Cyclops in the cave immediately, and then they realize, oh fuck, if we kill him, we can't get out. We're trapped, we can't budge that rock. So we have to wait now. And then they start going through the the procedure of how they're gonna get out of there. Um, and then yeah, like Matt Damon shooting that arrow into his eye is another thing, and then they get punished on their trip by Poseidon with the storms and the water. And like the whole entire thing leads to him eventually, you know, even when he's told at the at the whirlpool, like he tells them to go into the whirlpool because he knows that they're all gonna die in the whirlpool if they go into the whirlpool and that they have to be the ones to make the decision. So they make the decision to go into the pass, and he already knows that six of them are gonna perish in that moment once they make the pass, and that's exactly what happens, and then so forth. He he tries every step of the way to try to save these guys and and and keep them alive, and they fuck it up every chance they get because at the end of the day, they're they're they're soldiers, they're being paid, they're hungry, they're they don't have food, they've been out on sea for weeks. It just kind of equates and eventually catches up to Odysseus.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, my favorite scenes in this movie are the scenes where he's on um where they're well, they're just on sea in general. Like the this these scenes with like the storm part you were talking about, and just whenever they're on the ocean, this movie just looks amazing. And you mentioned Cersei, and I was right, and you mentioned Cersei, and I was gonna say, like, she says it herself, like I turned them into pigs, which was insane, and that's what I mean with the horror stuff. It is I turned yeah, because that's what they are, and I was just like that's that's that's that was dope. Like that concept and the symbolism behind that.

SPEAKER_00

Um same thing with the cats, same thing with the lion, the tiger, and the panther. Those were right, right, right. I wish they would have explained that better, but those those three characters all play an important role in like the actual story. Like, so like it would have been interesting, and then you see that her sister is the bird in the cage.

SPEAKER_01

But but with the high with like the hydro monster or whatever that was, I I I don't even know what the what that was. I'm calling it a hydro monster. But it scared the shit out of me when it popped up. I I didn't jump the whole movie, but that gave me a jump scare.

SPEAKER_00

No, the girl and the and I was dope. The girl next to me jumped like jumped like 10 feet out of her seat when it happened. Like I and the popcorn went full of the colour. That was me. I was like, oh shit, okay. Um but if you're if you're to tie it into comics, if you're reading Absolute Wonder Woman, you know who Cersei is because that's the story they're telling. That what Diana was raised by that Cersei, same Cersei. So it's it's cool. Like if you're you know, if you're a fan of Greek mythology and you're reading some of these comics, like it's definitely being used and being tied into things. So like that was a cool, cool bit. Um I I love the you know, the point when when basically Calypso tells him, like, Poseidon, Poseidon's gonna judge you, and he's gonna deal as punishment for your ride home, but Zeus won't let you die. Um in the book, Zeus, it's alluded to that Zeus is one of the other beggars, and Zeus is kind of present with him the whole entire time, um, and like watching him and protecting him because Zeus doesn't want him to die. Zeus wants him to just serve as punishment for what they did. Um so that that's like another tidbit that like was cool for them to touch on and and impede and show that like he basically had to give up himself and just let let the sea take him back to where he needed to go, and that's what happened. Poseidon eventually delivers him back on the shore. And you know, the the sad part for me was the the whole interaction with the dog, um, seeing that the dog was 20 years old, w waiting waiting for him to come back, and then the dog dies the moment he comes back, and that's how Tom Holland knows it's him. Um that whole interaction was great. Um, I I it it did, you know, it did choke me up a little bit though when it when it got to that point. Um Yeah. But I I love that one more.

SPEAKER_01

No, just say what you're gonna say. No, I was just gonna say, like, lately in Hollywood, they gotta stop with the animal abuse stuff on on screen because it's starting to come a little bit too much for me. And I know you are were a dog owner and I am too, so like, and there's a lot of people out there that have dogs and stuff like that. And I just think recently they just are doing it too much, and it's taking a secure pill.

SPEAKER_00

Not not for nothing, but before this movie, I watched two movie trailers that had dogs in them. Uh the one with Brad Pitt and his service dog, and then another one with a dog. So, like, it kind of seemed to be a theme for this movie that, like, hey, we got a lot of movies coming out with dogs in them. And then the dog obviously plays the role in this. Um, and that that's supposed to be like the tale is that the dog dies the moment he comes back and realizes it's him. And then that's how Tom Holland knows that it's it's his dad because the dog waited for his owner to die. Um John Leguzamo makes that comment at the very beginning of the film that the dog's 20 years old when he's talking to Tom Holland, and Tom Holland's training with Ryan Hearst. Um so incorporating all of that into this story was just fantastic. The whole way it plays out. For me, though, I will say the the one actor that I didn't like in this movie was Robert Pattinson. Um I just I would have loved to see anybody else in this role besides Robert Pattinson. Um I'm just I realize more and more, like I'm just not a big fan of his. Um even with this Batman 2 stuff, like I don't it's it's another movie I don't really care about one way or another. Um and I I I'm starting to equate it more to him that like I just don't connect with him as an actor, and I I don't really love any of his performances so far. So like for me, it was just like, alright, cool, like it's Pattinson, it's Batman and Spider-Man, like I said, and and Catwoman, and you know, it's it's that's that's basically just how I viewed it. It just was like, alright, cool, whatever. But um, yeah, yeah, yeah. I love this movie. I would highly recommend going to see it if you haven't yet. Um, I will definitely probably go see it at least one more time. I will probably definitely buy this on DVD and and run it back a couple more times when it comes out. Um but I I absolutely love this. I would highly, highly recommend going to check it out because it was just it's up there for me for for it was the I've only rated one other movie five stars on Letterboxd, and it was Dark Knight. So Christopher Nolan currently has two of my highest rated movies with two five star movies with Dark Knight and this. Um can't can't really sum it up much more than that.

SPEAKER_01

I would I agree with you on on that tip with Nolan stuff. Um for me though, I feel like Matt Damon, uh, as as well as he did a good job, he did a great job in this movie, and it's probably will be his best. But at the same token, though, I do feel like at times he's like a little too like uh like uneased. Like it's just like a rec it's like his acting is just like regular. It's like he's not in the moment at some times. And I feel like it and that's been like his whole that's just like his in his whole career for me, I think. Uh except for Born Identity. I think that's born identity is him and him only, so he kills that shit. Um but so that would be my only takeaway. Uh, and I don't even feel like doing a negative because uh that's that's just a thing I think across the industry people have said about him. Um and um I didn't feel that way about this at all. Not for that well, I mean not for this, well in this, but uh in his his other roles and just his acting, the way he acts in general. Um but yeah, I definitely would will see this again. Uh I don't know about C in IMAX because there are a lot of movies coming out that I'm really interested to see, so I don't know if I have the time for that. But I I will see it again when it comes out on streaming or on DVD and all that good stuff.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um, like I said, I I I would highly recommend this to everybody. If you haven't seen it, uh go check it out. Go bring your friends, bring your girlfriend, uh, go check it out because uh I'm sure everyone. One across the board will probably enjoy this. It's not maybe the kids. Um, it's not a kids' movie at all, but it was it was phenomenal. Um yeah, I I can't gush about this movie enough. Um something else we we had this past week was X-Men 97, and this was the Wolverine standalone episode. Um I know this was the episode you were most looking forward to um for this season. What did you think overall? Like were you were you happy with the end result of of what you got in this?

SPEAKER_01

Um, so there were some things I said last week that I was hoping that happened, and they happened, but not exactly, but they still happened. So I was happy for that. Yeah, you got you got Omega Led, which didn't make sense.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I don't know why he was in this episode at all, but whatever. We'll talk about that, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But yes, I I did enjoy this episode for what it was. Um it was a full it was a little rushed, and that's the one thing I feel like I wish we would have gotten more more of weapon X's, um just storyline and just with those characters and stuff like that, because they already committed to us Yeah, they're already committed to us not um like we're not gonna go too outer space and we're already like here, so like let's just chill and just tell me the story and just be what it is. Um the Easter eggs in this were cool. Um and um I think the end result with how Morph views um Wolverine and us as the viewer being able to see that in real time really was dope for people to really know like Wolverine is selfish and he only cares about his one thing. And um, yeah, I overall I did like this move this episode with the cameos and the characters that we got. I thought it was dope.

SPEAKER_00

I think this was the episode where it really weighed on me how old Cal Dot is. I love Cal Dodd, he I'll always be Wolverine, but this was the episode for me that I was like, I don't know if he can continue. Like I would almost rather see Steve Bloom take over and play Wolverine going forward. Um Sabretooth for me, like I think this was the whole episode for me, was the voice acting took me out of the whole episode. Um Sabretooth is not the original voice actor from the original series. He doesn't even try to sound like him. Like Sabretooth talked like a regular person this whole entire episode, and it bothered the living shit out of me. Um Maverick has a German accent and sounds like Nightcrawler, which in the original series, Maverick never had a German accent. Maverick is from Germany, but even in the comic books, Chris Claremont never wrote him with an accent. Like he so I don't know where that came from or why that was a choice, but that was a really odd choice for me. Um Morph was the standout in this whole episode, but I feel like they packed 10 pounds of shit into a five-pound bag with this episode. Like, I agree with you. This should have been a standalone Weapon X episode. The brood should have not been involved in this. If you were gonna do Omega Red, Omega Red should have been the villain for the episode and just call it a day. You did way too much and had way too much going on for what this should have been. Um, it should have been very just focused on Weapon X, it should have been focused on Weapon Plus. We got to see all the tapes there. We did get my boy Phantom X shown on one of the cassette tapes as one of the weapons. They do show all of the weapons, so it's all the way up. Laura is even on one of the tapes. Um, so all of the Weapon X projects were shown on those cassette tapes. Um, yeah, Bucky, who is technically a Weapon X project, is is part of that too. Um, Cap was was on there too. So I would have rather seen them face off against Dr. Cornelius and Omega Red and have a full Weapon X storyline rather than the brood coming into this for whatever reason. They just did this to get Brood Wolverine, and that's all they wanted to do. They just really wanted to have that visual because the action figure came out. And so, like, they wanted to capitalize on the fact of hey, we have this two-pack with Brood Wolverine, let's try to get Brood Wolverine into this episode, and that's exactly what they did. Um, I I didn't like how it all played out, I didn't like how rushed it felt, and the voice acting, like I said, completely took me out of the episode multiple times. This was my least favorite episode of the entire series so far with both seasons. Um, I just kind of felt like it was it was very out of place for what the storyline currently for the season is. We only have so many episodes like this, just this could have been reworked a totally different way. It would have been a lot more fun to have Natasha or Steve be involved in this versus versus what they did. And and Kane had no purpose in this episode at all. They just killed him as Canon Fodder at the very beginning. So Yeah, they were done from the jump. I just again, I just I I love the show, but this was the first time like I openly criticized it because yeah, some of these characters probably need new voice actors. I'm sorry. I I love the original voice actors, I'm glad they were able to get a lot of them back, but in certain aspects like Rogue and Wolverine, it just eventually does not come across well. Um and and I'm sorry if if that's you know offends anybody.

SPEAKER_01

But does this somebody I think you're the second person to tell me that that Rogue doesn't sound like her normal self? Like she doesn't have a southern elephant accent before.

SPEAKER_00

No, she's got a southern accent, she just sounds like an 80-year-old woman, which is who's playing her, an 80-year-old woman. Right. So it's it's kind of visually just and same thing with Wolverine. You have an 80-something-year-old Cal Dot playing Wolverine still, and like it's you can hear it. He sounds like a geriatric Wolverine, and like I'm I'm again, I'm sorry, but that's what he sounds like, and you it's very noticeable. So, like, and and for Sabretooth to act so out of character in this whole entire episode, I was just I just kept like banging my head against the wall of like, what are they doing with Creed? Like, why is he following Wolverine? Why is he helping Wolverine? Like, Creed would never under any circumstances do that. And that that's why I feel like this would have been better served as just a Weapon X episode where you actually flushed out the storyline of why Wolverine got the how Wolverine got this team together in the first place. Because like you skipped over all of that. You just kind of went into here they are on the jet all together, and it's like, oh, they're going after Weapon X. So Sabretooth's gonna help Wolverine because of that. That's Death Strike's gonna help Wolverine because of that. Like Death Strike and Wolverine left on better terms than Sabretooth and Wolverine did. So like Creed to act completely out of character the whole entire episode was just like baffling to me. I was like, I don't know what they're doing with Sabretooth. Like, this is not how Sabretooth would ever portray himself or act.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I thought it was a little weird too how Sabretooth and Wolverine were so buddy buddy, like they're they're always butting buttonheads. Um, but apparently this the reason why Omega Red was even in this or was in that Weapon X uh facility is because like in the original X-Men, um, I guess the way they ended it with him is that the X-Men defeated him, and then this the Weapon X crew that they were going after in this episode took him in for I guess experiment or whatever. So they were just trying to continue it all from there. Um, but I wish they would have continued just that story and left the brood stuff out because Omega Red is amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but yeah, they should have they should have just had that be the focal point if that's what they wanted to do. It shouldn't have been the brood, it should have been all this other shit. It should have just been Weapon X and and Omega Red and whatever else. Um Yeah, that that that for me was was the downfall. And for however many episodes we're gonna get, now we wasted a whole episode on this. Like where I feel like we could have done Wolverine getting his claws back a totally different way rather than wasting a whole episode on this. Because now we we only have four more episodes for the season. There's we already know that one of the episodes is a Savage Land episode, one of the episodes is something else, and then you have the last two episodes which are gonna sum up the apocalypse story in two episodes. So I feel like they're gonna rush this and pack it all into the season finale again like they did the last time, and that's the Disney Plus model of shit, which which unfortunately I I I fucking hate. So I I I I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

With this episode though, I did like although we didn't get him to act, they did show us Deadpool. I don't Morph just turned into Deadpool, but for the cool to for a pointless reason. I know you guys, I know you guys want to see that X-Force, so we're like kind of hinting towards it, but yeah. Um, so I thought it was cool to see that. I thought it was cool to see Thing and see the 96 Spider-Man as well. Um and um so Marvel Rivals has this thing where you go into Times Square and you can watch like different trailers and stuff, and they had a clip for next week's episode, and it was heavily on Polaris. So I'm guessing we're gonna get more Polaris next episode. Um, yeah, they got her at this point.

SPEAKER_00

They gotta set her up for Magneto for Magneto. She's gotta replace him on the team, and that's what's gonna happen for the season. So yeah, um, like I said, the the next couple episodes, the titles are already there. You can already kind of see where we're going with it. Um, so yeah, it's gonna it's gonna be kind of packed into the last two episodes for the for the apocalypse wrap-up. We're gonna spend the next two episodes on like some other stuff and then you know get to Apocalypse. So let's see if they stick the landing. Um, I I really enjoyed the first three episodes, um, but this one for me was was a miss totally. Um from start to finish. I really just could have could have left this whole episode out and I would have been fine. Um, the other show that we have going on is House of the Dragon. Um I I did watch this episode late last night, so recounting it all is is a little bit mushed together with the Odyssey.

SPEAKER_01

There was a lot. There was I know there was a lot. I did the same thing, like on the Odyssey, and then I went to the House of Dragons stuff. So I was like, it's hard to get all that together.

SPEAKER_00

The main thing for this episode is you're slowly starting to see the face turn for Aegon, and you're seeing Rhaenyra slowly lose control. Um we see that Damon is trying to pay off his gold cloaks and trying to get them paid because they have no gold, they have no money. So he used some of the money from the the veil to basically try to take care of them and you know rein them in a little bit. But as we see in the end of the episode, his boys got fucked up and decapitated and yeah, are are basically dead in the where he found them. Um so that's not good. Damon lost half of his force. Uh, you're you're watching as Rhaenyra basically is trying to control things in King's Landing, and her council is unraveling. She's adding new members that probably don't belong there, but she's adding them as they go along. And you're slowly seeing how like she's losing control of the kingdom that she she thought was gonna be her rightful destiny, and you're seeing that you know, it's not what she thought it was gonna be. Um, the other storyline throughout this whole episode was the fact of Helena being pregnant and Alison basically trying to cover up. Uh the the white worm basically finds out about the the uh the moon tea or whatever the fuck it's called that they take to to try to get rid of uh a baby. And in the pro Alicent basically takes it and says it's for her. She says, Oh, I had an affair after Viserys died and so forth. But the white worm picks up on all this and catches her in both attempts to try to escape the castle. Um eventually she Alison can sway her to kind of keep it a secret, and you know, eventually it gets them somewhat to safety by the end of the episode. Um the the other interesting point here is we are so in the books, I'm gonna I'm gonna spoil something from the books here because it's important to the overall Game of Thrones and what we saw in this episode. So we're watching uh Rivers, Alice Rivers, basically nurture Eamon back to health. Um they're the only two in Harrenhall. There's nobody else left at Harrenhall. There's no army, there's no nothing. Uh but there's mercenaries that keep coming looking for Eamon. They found out that if they fuck around, they found out. Um came down, defended Alice Rivers, and killed all those dudes that fucking tried to take her. And if you notice where they were standing, they were underneath the Weirwood tree. Very important. That Weirwood tree, as we saw at the end of last season, is how Alice Rivers got Damon to see the future and see the vision of Daenerys. Basically, in the books, Alice Rivers and Aamon have a child together. We know who their child is. We've seen their child. Well, we're gonna see their child in season two of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms because there's a character from the original Game of Thrones named Brendan Rivers. He's a Targaryen, and he ends up becoming the three-eyed raven that teaches Bran everything. Brandon Rivers Blood Raven is Alice Rivers and Eamon's child. Um that's such an interesting standpoint that we're gonna probably see him conceived in this show. Um, especially because, like I said, in season two of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, he's gonna play a significant role in the whole entire season. In the future of Westeros, he plays an even more significant role when he becomes Blood Raven and goes above the wall. So I love how they're setting these things up. I love how they're continuing to tie all of these shows together because this is what they should have been doing all along. But I like that this showrunner is taking that initiative to do it. Um, a lot of the other shows I think just kind of laid those plot points out, and he's doing a good job paying attention to those other shows and taking those plot points and saying, no, I want to I want to emphasize that in this and I want to draw reference to that in this, and he's doing it so far. So I know George R. R. Martin has his issues with the showrunner and they don't get along, but so far I'm really loving this season. Um, the other big thing for this episode was Kristen Cole. Kristen Cole basically comes to the point where he realizes you know what? I spent my whole life fighting for all these fucking people that do not give a shit about me one way or another. I defended Rhenira until she fucked me over, and I defended Alison until she fucked me over. I defended Eamon on all these little fucking kids that fucked me over at the end. So now Kristen Cole decides that he's going to war. He's going to war for himself. He's not going to war for the blacks or the greens or anybody else. He's going to prove a point. And spoiler alert, it's not going to go well for Kristen Cole. Um, next episode will more than likely be the last time you see Kristen Cole in this show. Um Yeah. And the way this episode delivered it and set it up was perfect. I I love the conversation that he has with the dude where he basically tells him, like, you can fuck off and go back to wherever, you know, go back to the high towers and tell them that I'm doing this for me. I don't give a fuck about anybody else. And yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And you can see that here, um, with sit with Christian Cole, like he's like, this is his last mission, and that's it. And that's the vibe he's giving off, especially with what they're dealing with, with um going through the forest and the the killing the the traps with the horse and the bugs and all and all that stuff. Like, I what I love about the show is that they're giving you like the POV of what it's like to be a man in a world full of just dragons and just crazy shit that's going on that a normal man probably wouldn't ever have to have the balls to deal with, but this is what it looks like. And um uh as far as like what Ranera's doing, I think Ranera needs to start getting on like her Danny-ish and start using them dragons for what they need because right now nobody respects her, and I feel like the thing that's the difference between them, and I know she's trying to respect her father's wishes, but baby girl, you gotta start getting some respect in here and doing what you gotta do because it's looking bad.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, you're gonna see. You're gonna see how that all goes. Um, but yeah, that so far the season is shaping up. I'm very interested to see how they're gonna end this season. Um, there's one of two ways that they can go. My feeling is they're gonna end it with one of the big plot points. Um, if they don't, that's how they're gonna start off season four. But that's gonna be the interesting thing because we're we're almost there, we're halfway through the season already. Um I could very easily see another four episodes them them delivering one of the bigger moments of this story. Um, as we talked about last week, Aegon is is starting to make a face turn, if you haven't noticed. Um Aegon's realizing what it's like to live among the common people. He's realizing how hard it is for these people to go get food. He's realizing how hard these people have to work in order to get food or eat or have a place to sleep. He's still operating under the premise of I'm the motherfucking king. And you see that at the end of the episode when dude grabs his crown and he just he fucking stabs dude and just takes him out. But now they have a new ally, and it's the other Lannister that survived the ship fight. So that's who that was that showed up. That's the other twin that's not dead. We saw the one twin get his his head taken off by the by the north. This is the other Lannister twin now. And now so they have an affiliate, they have somebody who's got a lot of money and a lot of power in the kingdom, and basically, like he said, the the goal is now to get him to Lannisport, because if they get to Lannisport, they can kinda position themselves there and be safe and not have to fucking worry about shit. And I kind of have a feeling that Aegon's dragon will play a role in in what's coming, that like his dragon is not gonna be dead.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah, because you know, when we saw him, there was the flies around it, which necessarily doesn't mean that it's dead, because that's like what happens like with cattle. Like there's flies around like cows and stuff like that, but that doesn't mean they're dead. I just think it's an I just think Sunspot is knocked out, to be honest.

SPEAKER_00

Aegon basically said that his dragon was he knew his dragon was still alive. Um, as we discussed last week, his his dragon plays a very important role in the story and what happened. So at this point, I don't think you have a choice but to have the dragon be alive. So we'll see what happens. I think the dragon's gonna wake up in a time of need for Aegon and and recap, and that's what we're gonna see.

SPEAKER_01

My other favorite thing about this episode is Orman. I think he is like showing masterclass villainy with what he's doing with Wernera and like picking at all her little flaws and just attacking her literally from the inside in and from the inside out um in the kingdom, and uh yeah, he he he is annoying, but he's a good villain.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, um again, we'll we'll see what happens with Orman and how that all plays out for him, trying to trying to raise up a new king. Um Rhaenyra got word of that. Ranier got the coin that they pressed, and you know, now we're gonna see what happens.

SPEAKER_01

And did you see when they were playing the chess game? Uh Darren, he takes the chess, and the last thing he had was a dragon, and that's when he pushes the whole game of the water.

SPEAKER_00

Well, because he won the game. He beat Orman.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I know. What a soul loser. Like, you you know what's about to happen, bro.

SPEAKER_00

Like, but that's that's where Orman's downfall is. Orman raised this kid. Orman taught this kid everything he knows, but the kid's also a Targaryen at the end of the day. He's not a fucking high tower, even though he was raised a high tower. So he's talking about I'm learning all this history, but nothing really important happened with the high towers. Like, I should be reading the Targaryen history, not the fucking high tower one. And yeah, so like you're seeing how raising this kid up is is not gonna be a good thing for for anybody. And now there's a third cont or a fourth contender for the crowd, essentially, because you have Eamon, you have Aegon, you have Darren, and Reneer. So yeah, eventually a couple of these characters are gonna have to get killed off. So yeah. Um I'm liking the season so far. I'm like I said, I'm very interested to see how they're gonna how they're gonna cap this this end of this season off. And I I again I would not be shocked to see it to see it be one of the big storylines that I can't talk about on the show because I'll I'll ruin it for everybody. Um so now we just got we just we just got some quick hits. Um in the Paramount merger, we got a gigantic W today. Uh the the six 13 states or 16 states, whatever it was, that filed the injunction prevailed in the federal court. Uh basically a federal judge looked over the case and basically said that the states have a a great case against this Paramount merger and for wanting it to stop. And so the judge put a temporary injunction on the hold. Uh so basically this deal is not going to go through right now. It's on temporary hold. Uh there's a date that's set for both parties to come back and meet. Basically, what Paramount's gonna have to do is if Paramount really wants this merger to go through, they're gonna have to subsidize some of these properties. More than likely, CNN is not gonna be part of the deal, which is one of the main things that Paramount wants in this deal because they want to control the nation's media. Um, a lot of those media companies will have to be dropped out of this deal. Some of the television entities like BET and some of the other channels that they're gonna incorporate, they're gonna have to drop these out of the deal in order to make this a more palatable merger. Um and I don't think that's gonna happen. So as of right now, I would say this is our best case for stopping this merger from happening completely. If they come back and meet, the judge already sided with the states and said the states have, you know, a total justified case that he believes they'll win. So if it goes to to a Supreme Court, it looks like this deal is gonna be shot down. There's too much money that's on the line and too much debt, and the fact that it's going to a foreign entity, it's it's I don't think it's gonna happen. Which eventually will probably lead to Netflix swooping in and taking the the WB deal like they originally wanted. All those cable networks will be sold off, and we'll live happily ever after, because that's what we all want. Nobody wants this Paramount deal to go through, nobody wants David Ellison and his father to be in control of this much, um, especially all the properties that they're gonna have control over. So honestly, I I've I'm so happy that this judge sided in in that way with the states, and we just got to continue to keep putting pressure on it to not make this deal go through.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah, kudos to the judge, and um great news on what they're what they're doing within merit here. Um, this is good, this is good to hear today.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, not so great news uh for Ryan Hearst, who we spoke about a little earlier. He had a great role in the Odyssey. Um, Ryan Hearst tore his bicep on the set of God of War. Originally they said they were gonna pause production on God of War, but now it sounds like they are gonna recast Kratos completely and that they're gonna reshoot the whole show. So they had half the show already done. Um it looks like they're not gonna take the break and and to give him time to heal, they're just gonna recast Kratos altogether, which is disappointing to me because I was really looking forward to seeing Ryan Hearst in this role, especially after watching him in the Odyssey yesterday. I was like, man, he's he's he's gonna be so perfect for Kratos, and now he's gonna miss his opportunity to get that. So that's unfortunate. Um, but yeah, God of War is moving forward without him, apparently.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I saw this, and it is unfortunate. Um, and I guess they do have to recast because he does have a very distinct look, especially in this live-action version of God of War. Um, but if I if I had a pick, I mean, I don't know why they don't just use the voice actor that plays him in the God of War Ragnarok. I mean, he's gonna have paint on his face, so you really can't see the skin color. And but it that doesn't even matter because he's kind of black anyways. But he would be perfect for that. Like if they have to pick somebody, I would I would shoot him the DM.

SPEAKER_00

He's a little too old to be Kratos in live action. Um, it wouldn't work. So I don't know who they're gonna cast. Um, but yeah, I'm I'm it kind of kind of ruins my hopes for this God of War show that that could have had a lot of potential now. I don't think it does. Um there was a nice interview with Scott Snyder um that that kind of came out. We have San Diego Comic-Con rolling around this upcoming week. Uh, if you're not following me over on Ways of the Sith, please do because I will be covering Comic-Con left and right, everything that's going on from top to bottom um over on my channel. So make sure to check that out. Uh but Scott Snyder did an interview basically talking about Absolute Batman, uh, talking about the animated series that's gonna be launching, basically giving a lot of tidbits on him and Dragata have a very long-term plan for this this book and this series, and uh it sounds like they have some more wild shit planned. So if you're an absolute Batman fan, just hang on to the roller coaster and uh and just just keep watching because apparently some of the stuff that they got coming is is just insane.

SPEAKER_01

This guy can't can't lose. Like he's just all hits, no misses. Like, I don't know if this roller coaster will ever end. This is crazy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he was talking about the absolute universe and and talking about some of the pitches and some of the stuff that was going on, how um some other creators have some other pitches that you know they they probably will roll out for the absolute universe at some point. Um, we are gonna get a full DC panel for comics, uh not for movies. DC movies is not gonna be showing up at Comic-Con this year, but there is a whole next level panel. So there's gonna be some new titles that are announced. Um, a lot of showcasing of some new creators that are gonna be jumping on, so it should be fun. Um, speaking of Batman, the Batman 2 has been pushed back again to 2028. Matt Reeves apparently wanted six months of post-production work to do this, so they gave him four and pushed the movie back. It overhauled the whole entire Warner Brothers slate, so a bunch of movies got moved around, a couple movies got moved up, um, and now Batman is now pushed back another year to 2028. So the longer this goes, the longer I have no interest in it. Um, from what I've heard, the plan is to potentially shoot Batman 2 and 3 back to back and be done with it. Uh, that's hence why the extra six months on top of whatever this Poison Ivy spin-off show supposedly is gonna be. Uh, we talked about it last week that the the new rumor is that Scarlett Johansson perhaps could actually be Pamela Isley and playing Ivy for the for the show. Um, but yeah, it sounds like they're gonna try to shoot all of this together and just get both movies done and and be done with this Matt Reeves universe. But this spell's doomed for James Gunn because now it's another year that you can't do Batman. Um so I I don't I don't know what that says for for DC. Again, if this Paramount merger goes through, I don't think James Gunn stays on anyway. I think Man of Tomorrow could be his last hurrah. So I'm not sure what this means for for them overall. But again, I I don't this this Batman 2, the longer it goes, the longer I don't care about seeing it. Like it's just whatever. I don't like the first one. Like I'm not a big fan of the first one. This one, four or five years in between movies, like I'm good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's a bummer because we have been waiting some time for this, especially since we got that ending of the penguin. Like, I'm waiting to see where that goes uh with that. Um yeah, and um to see like with for gun, like you said, like this is just holding us back from getting us our DCU Batman. And not as if this is our DCU Batman. Yeah, so like it's it's it's just a bummer and whatever. I love I love the Matt Reeves Batman like world he's created. Robert Pattinson's um performance. I'm not that crazy on his Batman. Um uh my my favorite Batman is uh Nolan um Bayos, so that's that's that's where I'm at with that. But um, yeah, I I just love the world of this Gotham. So that's what I'm more excited to see with this whole thing coming out. Um, and yeah, we're just gonna see what happens, but it's a bummer on the DCU side.

SPEAKER_00

And in some Marvel news, Marvel hired a new editor-in-chief in Steven Wacker, and C.B. Sapolski is out as editor-in-chief. Um, along with this announcement, Marvel announced that they will be closing the New York offices after 90 years, um, and will be relocating Marvel to LA. So for 90 years, Marvel has been based in New York. DC made this move a couple years ago, and we got convergence out of it. Um, hopefully, they have no plans to do some shitty crossover to to bridge us over for this move. Um, I don't know what this spells. Steven Wacker has a a long-standing track record in comics, has has worked on a lot of good things. Um, he'll be good for the role, but I'm not sure what the synergy is. I'm not sure. I'm assuming the LA move is to have more synergy with the MCU and all the shit that they're doing. So expect that all to bleed over to the comics, unfortunately. Um Brad Winterbaum being in charge, and now, you know, the the new editor-in-chief answering to him. I I definitely feel like that's where we're headed with Marvel, which is kind of unfortunate. I like the two things being separate. Um, if you want to do movie versed comics, do your movie versed comics, but don't have it bleed into the actual continuality. And I kind of feel like that's where we're going with this. Um I don't like the fact that they're leaving New York after 90 years. Stan made New York the hub for a purpose. So the fact that they're just kind of ignoring all that and bringing it all to LA, I could take it or leave it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's like the fact that NYC Comic-Con is the more comic central uh Comic-Con b because of that reason, because this is where Stanley created all these characters, like Spider-Man is from New York, like like this is like the staple for when you think about superheroes in general. So, like that move, uh, I'm a little salty about it myself, I can't lie. Um, but it's definitely to be like you said, to merge the movies and the and the comics together. And yeah, we'll we'll just gotta see where where they where they take it. Um supposedly uh people say that the DC made that move and they've been fine. But DC had problems for a long time. Marvel hasn't had as many problems till recent. So they that was necessary on the DC side. So we'll we just gotta wait and see what what they do over there in LA.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm I'm interested to see, you know, how this is all gonna gel. But like I said, it's more for synergy with the MCU, and this way all their execs and everybody are on the same page. So yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see, you know, where we go from here. Um, another movie that was announced that's getting a sequel, surprisingly, is Jennifer's Body. Uh Megan Fox and Amanda Seafried are both gonna come back for a sequel. Um, nothing was revealed about the sequel, about the script, or who's doing it, or who's directing, other than the fact that both of them were coming back for it. So that's gonna definitely be cool if you're a fan of Jennifer's Body, the original one. It's been quite some time since since the original movie, so to see them come back after all this time is is gonna be cool.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I've never seen Jennifer's Body, so this is dope news for fans, so I hope you're happy to see this and shout out to Megan Fox.

SPEAKER_00

Good little uh good little horror flick. Um that's just kind of like a teen horror flick at the time, but it's it's from like the late 2000s when Megan Fox.

SPEAKER_01

Like some Jason-ish no, no, no, no. That's like with that type of teenage horror.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no. It's more like uh I know what you did last summer type vibe, but like with with a succubus and so yeah, it's uh it's a good movie if you go back and watch it. But yeah, I I I thought it was interesting that after all these years they're they're both gonna come back and and do another one. But uh, what do you got for comics of the week?

SPEAKER_01

So I have no comics. It was actually a light week, anyways. I'm not following Armageddon, so I just wanted that one issue. Uh, I still got my backlog that I was doing, so no comics on my end today.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I have Wonder Woman. I thought the Wonder War was over, but they decided to do another uh issue that's kind of an interlude. I'm not sure if the story is gonna continue with Trinity now in the book or what, but it they kind of almost set it up that way. But I was loving the Wonder War, so I had to continue to pick this up for as long as like it's still tied in with that. But once it goes back to a regular Wonder Woman book, I'm out. Um I just I love this story in the future. I thought it was a lot of fun. Uh X-Men this week, Magneto finally out of the chair doing something for once, which has been 33 issues of him sitting in a chair doing absolutely shit. So it was nice to see him finally up and and and doing something again. Uh they basically brought back Schwarzschild, who was one of the new X-Men characters that was created for this run. Uh he was seemingly killed by White Beast, and the X-Men found him, and Quentin Choir and Ben end up saving his life and bringing him back. We saw in the future Schwarzschild ends up becoming one of Scott's like prized X-Men. So I'm guessing they're gonna go with that route of like now, Schwarzschild is gonna end up joining Scott's team and you know, follow suit. But we're working towards the Fantastic Four crossover. I think it's coming up in another two issues, so uh that'll be next, and then I'll decide whether I'm sticking around for McKay's X-Men or not after this. Uh, it it was great to see Tony Daniel. I love Tony Daniel as an artist, so anytime he's drawing an X-Men book, like I'm I'm in on it. Um, so I will stick around for the Fantastic Four crossover, but after that, I'm probably gonna jump ship. Uh, New Titans was another one that I really liked. I like what they're doing with this, but the reason I'm putting this as a pull of the week is simply because of the last couple pages. Uh, we get our introduction of Static Shock joining the team. Uh Jonathan Kent being the one to go pick him up and and basically invite him to join. So, next issue, static should be part of this team going forward, and we'll see how this all shakes out. With a lot of the original Titans members leaving this book now, it's kind of centered on the new team, static joining that new team. So, we'll we'll go from there. Did you have anything that you're watching this week?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, I want to say with that being the case, that is definitely being on my poll list because I'll be read I if static's in it, I'm I'm in it, so I'll be adding that next week. Yeah, that's awesome. So, show wise, um, I mean, I went to the movies of Soul The Odyssey. I I have been watching my Avengers of Superman. Um, that show though, in general, it's it's always been just like a vengers of Superman, it is what it is. So you don't really have to really pay attention to what's going on, but I mean, for the what's going on, it's it's entertaining for what it is. Um, and then I don't know. I don't think I watched anything else that was that of importance. Um, yeah, uh, I've just been re-watching some of the Spidey movies to get ready for Spider-Man this week, and yeah, that's that's pretty much it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's interesting that that a lot of the cast from the Odyssey has another movie coming out in two weeks. Um, so yeah. You got you got three of the big actors in the movie coming out in Spider-Man than you know, two weeks. So Summer for All Them, and then Anna Athaway is having bangers too. She's got uh end of Oak Street coming out too, on top of Devil Works Prada. So seems like all the Odyssey cast is just taking over Hollywood this this summer. Um, I don't have anything that I caught up on. I had a busy week, I had a lot going on. Um, so yeah, I don't have anything that like I I tuned in on particularly. But uh yeah, that'll do it for another episode of Talkin' Supes. Thank you guys so much for checking us out. Uh again, please make sure to like, comment, subscribe, give us a follow, and leave us a review if you made it this far along. And uh until next week, we'll see you again.
