Cody drifting on a breeze. Hey, what's going on, everybody? Welcome to another episode of Talkin' Supes. I'm Ed from Ways of the Sith. And I'm Onde Gache. What's going on? What's going on? San Diego Comic-Con was this past weekend, so we have a ton of news to report on going from that. We also got House of the Dragons, which aired last night, which was another fucking fantastic episode. X-Men 97 this week, we'll talk about it. And we have some major, major news for the Paramount Warner Brothers deal. So first and foremost, I feel like we should probably start with House of the Dragon. That's fresh in my mind. I just re-watched the episode uh because last night I only caught like bits and pieces of it. But uh we had talked about it last week. This was kind of the setup for Kristen Cole. Um, and this episode started off with Kristen Cole meeting his aunt.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Um, did you feel like he was gonna fight? Did you like expect like a big battle?
SPEAKER_01Well, like we were talking about it before, and also like I know I've been listening to other people talk about it before from like the book's perspective and stuff. So I just had a feeling that this was gonna be the end for him. So especially when Gail was like, you think I'm gonna pull my sword out for you, man? Like, that's not happening. So it was only a matter of a time.
SPEAKER_04The uh the Northerners really showed like their their prowess here by like setting up the trap with the dead bodies. And in the books, it is very different. Um, in the books, you kind of you kind of get the same thing, but in the books they have horses. So Kristen Cole and his group are like riding horses through through the encampment, and then the same thing kind of happens. Um in this, they kind of investigated a little bit more, like they were checking the bodies, they were kind of rummaging through, and then all of a sudden everybody popped up and like took action. So I I do I do love the nuance from the show compared to the book version, because obviously in the book version, it's being told secondhand. You're not getting like the the instances with each character. So in this, getting to see Kristen Cole pull out Allison's handkerchief and wrap it around his sword and like get ready. And he's like, I'll take two of you on. Like basically, two of your best men versus me. And at first, uh Tommy Flanagan is like all about it. He's like, All right, yeah, fuck yeah, we're here to die. Like, this is what the the winter wolves are all about. And the other chick was not having it. Um she put one in Kristen Cole's chest and then one in his throat, and then one in his eye. Um, well below in like his cheek.
SPEAKER_01In the most Puerto Rican's fashion, guy at de la boca.
SPEAKER_04He uh and that's it. Like that's his his dudes realize like they're fucked in the moment. They they know it at that point, like, oh shit.
SPEAKER_01I thought it was so funny how like way before he's about to like fight these guys, you see him pull out Rennera's uh napkin that he gave her.
SPEAKER_04Well, it was it was Allison's. It was Allison's. Yeah, it was it was Allison gave him before like as her blessing before he left King's Landing, she gave him that handkerchief and it's got her A sewn into the corner of it, and it's green, and it smells like her perfume. So that's why he kept sniffing it the whole entire time.
SPEAKER_00This guy is such a simple.
SPEAKER_04He he he got it bad. Like that's the that's the fuckery of it all for Kristen Cole, is like Kristen Cole won Rhineira's hand in the tournament. So technically, like he was supposed to marry Rhenira, but then the everything changed when Rhaenyra got got promoted to queen. When her father named her queen, Kristen Cole couldn't go forward with their relationship at that point. He's not highborn enough to be her her husband. So that's kind of like the the start of his downfall from there. Because, like, yeah, he was fucking Rhineera, and then you know, when things changed and he got close to Allison, he started having that relationship with her. And he just kind of got bounced around between the two of them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when when Nero uh like turned him down.
SPEAKER_04Well, she had to, because like I said, like at that point, like he's no longer he had her hand, he won it in the tournament in the first episode. And because of the fact of her being named heir, it changed everything. It meant she couldn't, she couldn't marry Kristen Cole. Like that was off the table at that point. So she had to move forward with with you know, actually finding a highborn, and then that's how it led to Damon eventually, because, you know, the Targaryens. But yeah, Cole, Cole really got the the shit end of the stick in this whole thing, and like, yeah, yeah, he's he's kind of an asshole. But at the end of the day, like he he he fell for two different chicks and got played by both of them at the end of the day. And like, that's why he wanted to go out because he realized, like, yo, none of these people give a fuck about me at the end of the day. Like, it doesn't matter. And that was kind of his big moment in this bat, in this, in the I I don't even want to call it a battle, in this scene. Um, he thought that he was gonna have this big, great, like epic stand, and that people would sing songs about him, and that they would write tales about, you know, Kristen Cole who stood against this whole army, and that chick was not having it. That's basically like what she says. Like in the books, I don't I don't know if she said it in the episode last night, but in the book, she says it like before she shoots him. She's like, I'll never let anybody sing a song about you, and like just fucking plucks him. So, and like you the the kid, I forget the kid's name that's like leading the charge. Um he he he wanted Cole's head. Like he he said, you know, for all the people you killed, and all I think it's the Tully. I think that's that's who he is. I I want to say the the kid who's next to the next to Tommy Flanagan in the scene. Um I think he's a Tully. I want to say he's like one of the fish. Um and that's why like he wants Cole because of all the Riverland people that like he killed. So it's um that to me was like the perfect way to go out. Um I I love the actor too, like wrote wrote a crazy ass post on Instagram, like, you know, kind of making fun of himself for all the hate that he's been getting for the past couple seasons. Because he's been getting a lot of hate like online. I felt bad for the dude at one point because like you're just playing a character, you shouldn't be like Joffrey didn't get this much hate. But um, so yeah, Kristen Cole is done off the table. Uh, we see Alicent and uh Helena basically get caught trying to escape, and Rhenira deals with them there. That whole interaction was fun. Um Alison seeing the tapestry that that Helena wove with Aamon in it. Did you pick up on that? Like she she had the vision of where he was and and that he was by himself, that Vagar wasn't there, and Alison like relays that information to to Rheneira.
SPEAKER_01I didn't pick up on it, but I'm glad thank you for put bringing it to my attention.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, when Alison picks up the the like after Helena says um something about like you can't keep me constrained here, da-da-da-da-da. She's she's finishing a tapestry and she's like been sewing, and she puts it down and walks away, and Alison picks it up, and Alison sees that the in the middle of the tapestry, it's it's aaman like huddled up like a child, and like he's he's in the weirwood tree. And that's basically like what she depicted in her drawing. And then she comes forth to Rhineer telling Ranera, like, Helena gets these visions that are mostly correct most of the time. And like for Rhineera, that's new information. She never knew about that. So it became Helena becomes important to her at that point. Helena's, that's why she that's why she kind of sticks with, well, I'll keep watch over Helena. Helena's gonna stay here, and you're gonna go to to Harrenhal and and deal with Eamon. Basically turn Eamon over to me. But as we see at the end of the episode, Alice Rivers got her hooks hooked into Eamon already and like is is already setting him up for for what we talked about last week. Um you know, Brendan Brendan Rivers being being the the three-eyed raven and setting all this into motion for the original Game of Thrones show.
SPEAKER_01My thing with that situation though is like I'm not sure if she is like really into him, or is she just doing this to get like a dragon? Or like and then they also alluded, I mean, because we talked about it, they alluded that they did it, so I'm like, they definitely did the did the birds and the bees situation.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, they got it on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I'm like, um, but yeah, that's this her other motives. I'm just so like unsurprisingly.
SPEAKER_04So she's like she's she's um she's a bastard of a highborn. So her that's why she's got the name Rivers. Um so technically, like, she can't really come into power for anything because she's technically a bastard. Um being that there's no one left at Harrenhall, she kind of became the ward of Harrenhall. And with Eamon at her side, she can actually rule Harrenhall. Um if if Aamon chooses to marry her and and puts a kid in her, then technically she kind of supersedes all of the the highborn, lowborn totem pole of stuff, and would technically be Queen of Harrenhall or Lord, um mistress of Harrenhall, I guess would be the title. Um, and that's what she wants. She wants Harrenhall. Like that's her home, that's what she wants to protect. She she and she wants Eamon to be, you know, to kind of give her that that next step of like validity in her claim. Um, and as we'll see, you know, with Brendan being born, like that's that's all the claim they need. Um one of the later Targaryens in the timeline makes Brendan and all these other Targaryen bastards uh legitimate heirs, which is what we see take place um come Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. So you kind of see how like all these things are being put into motion and how the events of Dance of the Dragons goes into Knights of the Seven Kingdoms, which eventually transitions into what happens in Game of Thrones. Um the one thing that a lot of people were speculating was the dragon eggs that she presents aiming. Um the fact that they very well could be the same dragon eggs that Daenerys gets in Game of Thrones. Um Damon saw that vision at the Weirwood Tree from Alice Rivers, like when she when she made him have the vision at the Weirwood Tree, Damon saw that Daenerys would hatch those eggs at some point. So it's a very, very probable thing that three of those eggs are Daenerys eggs.
SPEAKER_01Um My whole thing is like, is it I I I but there is theories that it's what you said, but from what my point of view, I was thinking because I know she does a lot of like magic and things. I was like, she like is this an illusion? Like, are they is he actually seeing these things?
SPEAKER_04Uh they're actual dragon eggs.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Because you know, Dame, I feel like what not Dame with Aamon, she kind of like Frankenstein to him. So what made me think that was because like he is she's controlling his mind, and I just feel like it was just like a whole like a hoax, like it's not a little bit of a little bit of a little bit.
SPEAKER_04She's really not though. She's just manipulating him. Like it's it's not really so much a spell as it is just she already knows who he is and like what he's about, and she's using his weakness to to get what she wants, and and she's manipulating him, and that's what she's doing. Like, she she knows he's got mommy issues, he likes older women, she's an older woman. Um, she knows that if he if he knocks her up, number one, he's not gonna hurt her, he's not gonna kill her. He could have killed her already and didn't, so she's safe on that part for the most part. Plus, whatever witchcraft she can do, she can hold her own more than then. We saw in this episode she slit dude's throat without even thinking twice. Um so she can hold her own. It's just more so like her position, because she knows, like in the books, she kind of knows what's gonna happen to Eamon. Just like Helena kind of knows the ultimate end game of Eamon. So, like, for her, if she can get pregnant with the kid, she solidifies her place in in the whole grand scheme of things. And and regardless if something happens to Aamon, regardless of what happens, she's got a Targaryen heir inside of her, and that's all she really needs to make a claim for anything. Um I'm not exactly sure what happens to Alice Rivers. It's never kind of said in the books like her ultimate fate. Um a lot of speculation is that, you know, her and Melisandra could be the same person, that like Alice Rivers could be Melisandra years before. That's that's always been like a popular theory in the Game of Thrones community. I don't think it necessarily has any validity, or you probably would have cast the same actress back to play her, you know what I mean? Or or maybe a younger actress that looked more like her. Um, we do know that Melisandra changed her appearance, though, and she was like a very old woman come the actual Game of Thrones, you know, show. So it's it's always a possibility, I guess, that that Alice Rivers could end up being Melisandre down the line. Um but yeah, that whole angle for her is is basically just a play to solidify herself and give herself a a space where like she can she can kind of inherit Heron Hall, and that's all she cares about. And the story she told um Eamon about the the the Targaryen that came to Haronhall and left the eggs, that is a true story. Like that is part of the the Westeros history book. Um, she had no kids, she hatched all these dragon eggs and basically died in the castle, and that was the last Targaryen that inhabited Haronhall. Um so those eggs have been sitting there since. They've been cold because they haven't had a dragon at Haronhall to try to hatch them. These eggs also could play into Knights of the Seven Kingdoms. Um there's always a possibility that one of these eggs or or a couple of these eggs or or the whole set of them could actually be the eggs that Eegon hatches in Knight of the Seven Kingdoms much later on, uh, when he when he brings them into the castle and sets the castle on fire trying to like trying to hatch these eggs. So there's two options for these. Um they they both could save serve the same purpose. There were six eggs in the crate, so it's very possible that like three of those eggs end up as Danny's eggs, and the other three eggs are the eggs that Amen try uh Aegon tries to hatch, you know, with when he dies ultimately. So it's it's there's a strong possibility like this this chest could work for both stories and literally like tee you up for both of the other shows, which is pretty cool in my opinion. I I think that's been the biggest thing for me with House of the Dragon is the fact that this season they're they're weaving in so much of that history from the other two shows and really kind of connecting them all so it does feel like it's one world and that it's all taking place at the same time. Uh, because it is. It's all a history that ties in with one another, and George R. Martin does that in the books a lot. But for them to do it in the show, I think really says a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it does.
SPEAKER_04Especially because we weren't getting these tie-ins from from uh Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Like Ira Parker wasn't doing this in in his show. So like to see that this guy's taking the initiative of like, no, I'm gonna connect all three shows. I I like that. And I can understand why that would anger George R. Martin a little bit, but at the same time, I feel like this showrunner is is doing what he needs to do to deliver this season because as we spoke about, this book isn't very long. Like the novella for this is is kind of short. Um, it's just a history book. There's there's not a lot of story and meat, meat to the bones of this story um that they've managed to drag out now for four seasons. So like what should have been like a two-season show now got dragged out to four. And that's because of the showrunner making the changes that he made and and kind of implementing some new things into the story.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're you're right about that. I I I totally agree because I believe when when season two came out, it I felt like it just became like it was like a slow ride. Which in in a way I feel like how this is right now, but they all there's a because the plot was so great in the beginning, these couple episodes, it it's holding me on a lot more longer than where last season I just felt like was kind of boring. Invested in the show, so yeah.
SPEAKER_04There's only two more. Um we're already at six, you know, so there's two more episodes. We're already, we're already there. And then we gotta wait till till uh two years before we get the next season of this. So the way, like we said on uh on a previous episode of this show, uh, we're gonna get Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in the in the spring again next year, and then we're gonna have to wait another year for for House of the Dragons. The shows are gonna kind of alternate between years. So last season of House of the Dragon will be next uh will be in 2028, and then Dunkin' Egg will be back to back. So that'll run consistently for the next two years, basically. And George did announce um that he is work currently working on the fourth novella for Dunkin' the Egg, and that he plans to have it finished by the end of this year, hopefully. So um we we are getting more Dunkin' Egg. There, there's supposed to be six, I think, in total. So this will be four um or five, whatever it is. And then yeah, this next one should be really cool because I believe this next one he's writing should take place in Winterfell, if I'm not mistaken, the way the books go. So um, that'll be cool to kind of get to see Dunkin' Egg in in Winterfell, um and involve his brother into things and from the original show and stuff like that. So that'll be cool. But um, the other big thing in this more hints of the Dragon Riders. Uh Sir Oaf and Hammer um kind of doing their own thing, going against the rules. Um, we see Sir Oaf telling Hammer about the fact that he's not allowed to go to the bar anymore. Um Hammer basically stays behind and decides to go incognito so he can get inside the walls, and he does. He takes over one of the one of the shipping uh cargoes and you know, hops on the the horse and rides in and goes undercover basically to go see his wife. Um his wife ha wants nothing to do with him, and you're gonna see kind of what what's gonna happen with Hammer and how this is gonna all affect him and and you know, but I don't want to give too much about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a hard decision and in that scenario because I feel for her and how she doesn't want to leave her family because that would just make her as bad as like what her brother did. But at the same time, it's like your man basically is trying to take you out of this horrible situation for a better life. And I just feel like way things looking in the city and stuff, there is no other route for you. Like you just kinda like gotta be in reality and know, like, we have to leave, like we have to bounce. Yeah, because I feel that, but at the same time, it's hard.
SPEAKER_04At this point, there's a dragon outside of the castle, and like at any moment, they Renier could call in the dragons and burn the whole town down, and there's Hammer's wife inside that doesn't want to leave with her family. Um that's a very real possibility. Um, it could even be Hammer, maybe after this conversation, that decides to take it upon himself to go burn the the village and just take the village for himself. Um that's always a possibility too. I mean, he's got a dragon sitting outside. His wife just told him to fuck off. So, like, it's a very real possibility that he goes back to his dragon and is kind of upset and decides to rain fire upon upon the town. I'm just saying, that's a very real thing.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yo, okay, okay. That would that's gonna be freaking crazy if that happens.
SPEAKER_04Because just it's a possibility, right? I mean, that that that's a scenario that they painted in the show that could very well happen. Um and then and then you see the other side with Umph uh, and you know, Damon catches him. Damon goes undercover as one of the gold cloaks and bumps into him in the town and smacks the living shit out of him right in front of everybody. So now Umpf has even more of a disdain for both of them at this point because now Rainier is the one who kept him from going to the tavern, and now Damon just embarrassed him in front of all the regular people. You also see Ump's content for people who he who he deems lower than himself now. Um, so you can kind of see how like this knighthood is starting to get to his head and having a dragon is getting to his head because he literally like looked at Damon like he was nothing until he realized he was Damon. And then once he realized, oh shit, I just bumped into the prince, his whole attitude changed. And I I think you can very easily see like the the two of the three dragon riders are starting to uh starting to conf have conflicts of interest. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, for sure, because he's really butthurt about not being able to drink. Like it's the end of the world. He's really the only whole about that, and it's not even just the drinking, though.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and it's not even just the drinking, it's the fact that like he wants to fuck whores and and be in the brothel and like be in the bar with his people. Like that's what he wants to do. That's what he keeps talking about, is that the fact that he's being denied his simple pleasures of being a lord, and like what good is being a lord if I can't fuck whores in a brothel and and get free drinks? Like that's basically his mindset. And and that's to show like what a low born piece of shit he was at at one point and still kinda is, if if like him getting the title and getting the dragon didn't do anything. Um you even see it. In the conversation with Hammer, like he just whistles at his dragon like a dog. Like, he don't give a shit about the dragon, he don't give a shit about the titles, he don't he just gives a shit about like what it's gonna get him. And and ultimately that makes him somebody very easily to to kind of take off the board. Um, you you see that money only matters to somebody and titles only matter to somebody, it's very easy to sway them. I get the crazy part of uh we're gonna call him Coralus, even though he didn't get the title of Valerian. Um but his son, the bald son, hooking up with his grandniece, niece sister? I'm still not sure.
SPEAKER_01Well, like yeah, actual son, so that would be like his sister.
SPEAKER_04And then that's his Coralus' granddaughter, so it's yeah, it's his grandniece essentially that he's hooking up with.
SPEAKER_01So that's weird. Yeah, that's weird. It's very weird. And you know, when I thought that we didn't get enough incest in this show, they proved me wrong because Yeah, we got it back again. Brought it right back to full circle.
SPEAKER_04Can't go wrong with the incest, um, especially in the Targaryen family and the Coralus family. So yeah, he's he's gonna fuck his his grandniece or yeah, um, second niece, whatever she ends up being.
SPEAKER_01It's like it's half-sister's daughter, good move for the when the other son was like trying to like get with her, she didn't want nothing to do with him. But then this guy who just got introduced into the family, mind you, your husband just died maybe like a month ago, and you're already out here doing thoughtful activity.
SPEAKER_00Unacceptable.
SPEAKER_04She's it's she's in a vulnerable place. That's the whole thing. She understands that she's the one who kind of caused everything to happen. Um, and because of that, now she's kind of paying for it, if that makes any sense. Um, and so now, yeah, she's kind of going through it a little bit and acting out a little bit because of what happened. Um, and then we see her sister with Sheep Stealer, you know, getting reamed out by the veil as to like, what are you fucking doing showing yourself? You were supposed to stay in your cave. And uh she kind of gets put in her place a little bit too. And uh, we're gonna see how kind of the role she's gonna end up playing in in things here and and how she's gonna end up getting her into the mix of things. Um again, I don't know how different they're gonna do this because the nettle storyline ends in the veil. Um so they they've kind of almost like put her in the veil now to to kind of see, I guess, what role she's gonna play in things going forward. Um, but you can see like she's unraveling too during it. And then we get like the ending of the episode, which was shocking. Um Lord Coralus basically rallies up his men and says, Hey, we're going back to King's Landing. You guys are all gonna be fucking the night the the the city watch. Um, the queen needs us. And in that moment, uh, Coralus gets ambushed by the dude from Andor and uh the right-hand man to uh the high tower. So that's gonna be interesting. Now they got now they got Coralus and uh the sea snake. And yeah, I I I told you from the jump that uh there's a reason why his house is no longer around, come the original Game of Thrones. And the like I said, the fact that his sons were never named legitimate heirs, it's gonna come back around to bite Rhenira because once Coralus goes, that's it, the whole fucking kingdom's gone of Driftmark.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_04That is so there we go. Um that's kind of gonna be uh another threat that they're throwing in. Um, like we said, we only have two more episodes. Um I have a feeling they're gonna they're gonna save both big things, I think, for the be for next season. I have a feeling the way this is playing out. Um there is a possibility that I guess maybe in two episodes they can do one of the storylines. Um, but it would feel a bit rushed in my opinion if they did. Um I think we need the beginning of next season to be like the beginning of this season where it shocks the living shit out of everybody. We get the big moment down the line of uh of kind of the wrap-up of how this all takes place. Um but there there is a very real possibility that they do it before the end of this season. And to me, that would be disappointing simply because I don't feel like we're there yet with with two of the characters. We're we're getting there, but we're not there yet. I feel like there's still a lot that needs to be fleshed out between two of the characters um before they have their confrontation. Um we also see Aegon kind of growing a little bit more. Um he listens to listens to the Lannister, he listens to Clubfoot, and he decides to go with Clubfoot's thing because he realizes that Clubfoot's not gonna bullshit him. Um he told him how much he hated him, how much of a bad king he was, and the Lannister just sat there and fucking lied to Aegon's face. So Aegon decides to go with Clubfoot and then kind of moves forward with that. So yeah, they're setting up everything for these last two episodes. Um I again, I I I kind of feel like they're gonna save the two biggest things for next season, but uh it's gonna be interesting to to kind of see.
SPEAKER_01That that happened in the book where they kidnap him.
SPEAKER_04Uh, I don't really remember. I I I just know that that pretty much everybody in his bloodline is is completely fucked. Um that's what I remember from the book. As as I said, in the book, it's it's not a first-person story. It's not like Game of Thrones where you hop around between all these different characters. You're being told the story of House of Dragons through a jester and witnesses and people who were there at the time. It's just kind of a secondhand story. So that that's kind of why the show is so different, because the show's giving you more insight into things that you don't have in the books because it's being told from an outside perspective of somebody who wasn't actually there or present. Um, a lot of it's being told like almost like a history book rather than from first hand accounts or or like viewpoints. You know what I mean? So but uh it should be fun. Like I said, two more episodes left, and uh and then we're wrapping up this season, and then we gotta wait for for Dunkin' Egg for season two, which uh Ira Parker did say that they're done, and it should be delivered in the spring of uh of next year. So we'll definitely have that to look forward to. And then he's going back to shoot season three like right away. Um I think they get like a couple week break and then they're going right back into shoot season three.
SPEAKER_01So that's good though, because then they stay in character for for a while and they can get shit done.
SPEAKER_04And you can get a lot done with Dexter being as young as he is. Um I I feel like if you if you're taking like a couple years to film this, Dexter's gonna grow up a little too much and and not be right for Egg anymore. So I feel like you kind of have to keep the show on a yearly schedule of like, we're filming, we're putting it out, we're filming, we're putting it out. I think at this point, the show will probably exceed George R.R. Martin's books. And like Ira Parker does know what George has planned for the rest of the story and to get us to where we need to. I still think it would be cool if they did like what the original idea was of like do the do the first initial novellas and then take a couple years off and then wait for them to age and then bring them back to go do like the the the end of the dunk tale, which um you very well could, but I have a feeling HBO is gonna like probably recast um at that point. I I would assume. But we'll see what happens. Um another big show that we had this week was X-Men 97. Uh some some news from Comic-Con surrounding X-Men 97. So season three is done already. It's in the can. They did show off a clip of season three with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and Serge being a part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, which is completely different. Like Serge is a new mutants character. So the fact that she's part of the Brotherhood is something totally different that that is not from the comics, not from anything in continuality. So that's a that's a reach. Um, she's got a different costume too, which is interesting. But yeah, they're gonna have her be part of the main squad with the Brotherhood for season three. And season four is is starting production right after Comic-Con. Uh so they're already two seasons ahead, pretty much, at this point, uh, which is great news for this show. Uh they this is they're gonna keep this on a yearly schedule going forwards. I think that's fantastic for X-Men.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I love that as well because they're like Brad Winbarr said, they wanted to do 10 C's, and so it's good to know that they're really standing on that and delivering that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and the and the fact that they're they're putting the time and effort to make it happen for me is is important. This episode for me, again, was a little bit of too much into one episode. Um I did love I did love the polyer story. I love the fact that she knows Magneto's her father. They didn't go through the whole episode of like her not knowing and then getting the bombshell dropped and all of that. I love that Chuck was also the one to like imprint Magneto's mind into her. So like she knew what her father thought of her, she knew how her father felt about her, she knew how her father felt in his dying moments, and like all of that was put on put into her mind so she can feel him in a sense. And then she tapped in and kind of achieved her full potential of her power, which was really cool to see. Um incorporating the danger storyline in this was a little bit much for me.
SPEAKER_01Um that story for that though, I feel like that was because um, so this weekend we got the beta open beta for Marvel Tokom's fighting game, and danger is a character in there. So I felt like in Plus Bakama Con going on, and they were there, I felt like that was a thing like to promote the character. Like you may not know her in the game, but now you will now once you see this episode. Yeah, it makes sense. And they'll be throwing, like I said, clips of each episode before they come out in Marvel Rivals. So that whole universe is just like working in unison, I think.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, um, it seems like next week, too, is gonna be another collaboration because we're getting um Colossus and Fabian Cortez and that whole group along with the Savage Land, like combined. So it's gonna be another like combined uh episode, I guess. And then we have two episodes as the wrap-up for this, which again, I feel like it's gonna be a lot to pack in, especially with the Gambit stuff. Um, we did get that reveal in this episode, which was really cool. And I I love the fact that they changed from playing cards to tarot cards, and then at Comic-Con, they handed out the tarot cards to everybody as part of the panel, which I thought was really cool.
SPEAKER_01Well, the actual ones?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they actually handed out like the death card, the the lover's card, um, the uh they they had like a bunch of different ones that they were handing out to people, like a tarot deck. So I'm I'm sure we're probably gonna get an X-Men tarot deck at some point from Marvel. Like that Marvel's already done a tarot deck before, so I wouldn't be shocked to see them like push out this specialized X-Men one as like an actual official release. Um, it wouldn't shock me one bit. But I love that. I love that the fact that it was the tarot cards, you got the lovers, you got the ten uh ten of pentacles, you got different things that like play into the Gambit story, which I thought was fun. Um we're we're definitely gonna fuck with Rogue in these next in these last two episodes when she sees him, and that is the lead up to the episode. I think the second to last episode is is named like for Gambit. So um my guess is that's when they'll have like that conversation with him. Um I I did I I did love the spotlight on Lorna though. Um I I love the fact that she went back to the mansion and her room's untouched, and there's still a picture of her and Bobby, and then her and the girls. Um, in the original continuality of the show, Bobby's not gay in in the show, at least he wasn't in the original '97 series. Um so him at him and Lorna had a relationship and were together originally in the series before she went and joined X Factor. She left Xavier. Uh Bobby was in in the X-Men team at the time, and they split. Um I don't know where Bobby stands in in this show yet. I really expected, like, seeing Lorna and seeing Angel back that we would have had Bobby involved in this season. So it is kind of shocking that they decided to like shy away from that because it would have been nice to have him included in this.
SPEAKER_01Uh he was on the wallet poster at the end of the last season.
SPEAKER_04So he was a part of the original show. He was in two episodes of the original show. So um he's out there, he's part of this universe. It's just, you know, for whatever reason, they didn't incorporate him into the season. Maybe next season, maybe season three or or four, Bobby kind of comes rolling back around. Um but the thing for me in this episode that was the coolest thing, I think, was the fact that we got to see Cinc, Monet, and Choir kind of get a spotlight in this episode. I knew they were going to be part of the show. Um, but the fact that we actually get to see Monet turn, uh, we get to see choir kind of be a smartass and and wear his Magneto is right shirt, um, which I love the the detail of that because that's something straight from the comics. Um, and getting to see Sink kind of be part of this team, like that Gen X team and then like all these kids in the comics are from different eras of X-Men. Like they're all students, but at different times. So the fact that 97 took like three errors or four errors of new mutants essentially and rolled them all in as the new class, I'm cool with that. Like for me, it makes perfect sense. Um and having them all kind of be there at the same time. My hope is going forward, as maybe season three and four come about, we start to get some of the Grant Morrison storylines with some of those kids involved. Uh, there's a big storyline with Glob Herman and Quentin Choir from the comics from the Grant Morrison early 2000s that they could use, which is right at Xavier's. Um, I would love to see that, especially since we do have five cuckoos in the show. They showed five in the original thing. Um, it would be fun to see how two of those cuckoos end up disappearing. Um I hope as the show continues to go on. I know in this season we probably won't get too much more of the kids simply because of the apocalypse stuff and everything else that they have to go on. But I'm glad that that the kids are are getting a role in this, especially those kids, because they are some of my favorite characters in X-Men currently. They're all grown up, they're all officially members of the X-Men teams in the books. Um, so to see them kind of being used in that right way is is awesome for me as an X-Men fan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I really love this episode, mainly because um I I I didn't know the mo most about Polaris. Like we said before, I told about my origins of Polaris, and we're not we don't have to speak about that. But but uh yeah, so seeing her and her power set in this episode was really freaking cool because we really learned that she is her father's twin to to like the team, but just ten times more better.
SPEAKER_04Um that's the only difference. Omega. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And her skill set though was really crazy. Like some of the moves they had her doing in this, I was like, I felt like I was playing a fighting game myself because she was going in. Um, and I really love the fact that we finally got to see the X-Corp's uh suits as well. Um I thought that was really dope the way they used it, but yeah, they're the Grant Morrison suits.
SPEAKER_04It's not X-Corp. X-Corp is something that comes much later in the comics. Um it's actually some an ongoing that was going on during Kirkoa written by Teeny Howard. So the fact that they incorporated that this early and did it this way to me was was pretty cool. And yeah, we kind of have now the Grant Morrison era X-Men team in the show, which is cool. Um, it's not the exact team from Grant Morrison's run. They they did kind of add rogue, nightcrawler, bishop, and polaris. They're not original members of that team. But um, yeah, we get to see them rocking the Grant Morrison suits and getting the looks, and uh, we see Gene and Cyclops from that shot from the trailer where Gene makes the the Wolverine claws and cyc uses his powers to blast it off, which was really cool to see.
SPEAKER_01Another thing for me, I feel like and this might be where they're going or not, is when they first when Polaris first meets uh Xavier and they're having that conversation and he's trying to tell her so much about her dad and stuff like that. Um I feel like at some point they might do a switcheroo and make them the way we get onslaught. Because she's the only way but it feels like that's what they were taunting because I feel there was a scene where like I think like they put them side by side in like their heads, and it kind of looked like an onslaught helmet.
SPEAKER_04I'm glad they skipped over the onslaught story because it's an awful story. Um, it's one of the worst stories in the comic books. That whole time period of X-Men is some of the worst X-Men ever written to this day. Um, so I'm glad that like I hope they they ignore all that. Just like they ignored Savage Wolverine. We got Savage Wolverine for one episode. Thank God. Um, if we would have kept going this whole season with Savage Wolverine, Wolverine would have been obsolete and run into the ground by the end of this season. So the the fact that he's kind of separate from the rest, him and Morph and are doing their thing. Storm is headmaster, so she's not taking part in the X-Corp stuff. She's taking care of the kids. Um that's kind of preparing you for the change of the team because you're seeing that, like, we're getting a whole new team when this is all said and done. They're in their the Grant Morrison suits. We also have X-Force and X-Factor who are gonna play a role in the end of this season. So we'll see how the team ends up looking like when it the season is actually done. We might go to a red and blue, uh, blue and gold team when this is all said and done, where we have two X-Men teams. Uh, we might go with X-Corp and the X-Men. Um, it's gonna be interesting to see how they play this off, especially with season three and season four. I don't know what's in the cards as far as far as like who's gonna be mainly on the team or if they're gonna want to do blue and gold, so then this way they can kind of swap and mix and match and kind of have a couple teams running around. Um, that's always a possibility. So, but uh yeah, only only uh three more episodes left to X-Men 97. It's gonna be disappointing when that's over.
SPEAKER_00Um I I do wish eight uh for this show.
SPEAKER_04I I think it would do them a lot more justice to be able to pack a little bit more into this this season, especially story-wise. Um, but yeah, we'll we'll see what happens from from there. But I am looking forward to the next episode with Colossus and um yeah, seeing how they're gonna incorporate that whole squad. I I forget the name of uh of Corsair's group, the Acolytes. The Acolytes, that's what they are. So Colossus is part of the Acolytes team. Um, so we'll probably see Frenzy, we'll probably see Chuck's old girlfriend, um, and probably Cortez and them, because now Magneto's dead, so they're gonna be kind of enacting his will. It could set up a Joseph storyline for season three. Uh, I wouldn't be shocked to see them do that. Um, that's kind of what I anticipated when they did end up killing Magneto, that like we're probably gonna get the Joseph storyline at some point. So I I could fully see that happening with like Cortez and them being involved in the next episode. I also know from the teaser that there's gonna be a flashback to what happens with Ileana. So we're actually gonna see like what happened with Illy in this in the X-Men 97 universe and why Colossus joined the the Acolytes. Um because in the comics that's a big thing of why he ends up joining them. Because Ileana dies and then he he joins them out of spite, essentially.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's interesting because I don't know this side of Colossus, so this is this episode's gonna be like totally brand new to me. So I'm excited to see what what does what it's all about.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and it's another way for them to kind of finish out the Acolytes team in in figure form. They started with Cortez already, so like it's another way for them to just kind of squeak out a couple things. Which by the way, there were no X-Men 97 stuff shown off at Comic-Con outside of Beast, um, which we already knew was coming. So kind of weird that that no more 97 stuff was shown off. I was really expecting like a whole nother wave or two for 97 and it didn't come. Um, but yeah, I'm looking forward to the to seeing how this season's gonna wrap up and seeing how they're gonna put this all together and then go from there. Um as we were saying at the beginning of the show, some big news with the Paramount deal. Um, so the Paramount deal is now officially on hold until June of 2027. Um basically, Paramount asked for this extension to to basically till the time it goes to court. So this could be resolved sooner, but if it the deal doesn't go through by the end of this year, Paramount is gonna have to pay the $1.7 billion to Warner Brothers. At that point, the deal essentially could be dissolved totally, and this could all be a MOOC point. The reports coming out today from Variety is that a number of Warner Brothers employees and executives do not want to see this deal go through at this point. They're aware that most of them are gonna lose their jobs. Um They're aware that David Ellison is pretty much gonna cut clean house. Um, and at this point, even though they accepted the merger, they don't want it to go through. They want these states to hold it up. The UK did sign off on it, but now there is a lot of pushback from residents of the UK and from some big-time Hollywood actors in the UK, such as Benedict Cumberpatch, uh, Doctor Strange, uh, Benedict Wong. There was another one from the EU that wrote a letter to the EU basically hoping that this deal does, basically saying this is all the detriment of why this deal shouldn't go through, and that you guys should rethink your decision, all the layoffs that are gonna come from this, the fact that Paramount's gonna be billions of dollars in debt that they're never gonna be able to get out of. They talked about making a slate of however many movies. And because they're so in debt, they're not gonna be able to produce that many movies a year because they don't have the money. Um, as this deal gets pushed further and further, the whole premise from a certain administration that's in power right now wanted this all to be done before the midterm elections. Um, because they can use CNN and they can use all these outlets as a way to influence the election. If this deal doesn't go through by the midterms, this whole thing could be thrown out completely. Um, so there is a very real possibility that this merger does not happen. And when it doesn't happen, guess who swoops in like a like a shining night? Ted Serandos, and he gets WB for half the price that he was originally going to pay. And WB states its own thing. Netflix owns all the rights, and we're we're golden. We get theatrical releases from Netflix. We're, we're, we're right where we should have been. And all these cable networks probably end up to Paramount at the end of the day. Um, because I don't think Warner Brothers doesn't give a shit about CNN or all those fucking channels. They were going to split those away from the deal. Netflix doesn't care about them at all. They don't want any of those properties. I think Warner Brothers running as its own thing and being able to continue running as its own thing is the much better option. Um, Netflix entering the theatrical market at that point, you know, going strong with it. I just think that's a benefit overall for Hollywood as a whole, getting a whole nother studio in the in the theatrical game rather than losing one of the biggest studios that we have. Um if this deal does go through by chance, if the fact that Paramount does have to pay the $1.7 billion, you know who's gonna have to pay that back, right? It's gonna be the consumer. So when HBO and Paramount roll into one and go to their streaming service, we're not looking at a $14 a month streaming service. We're looking at a $30, $40 a month streaming service to balance out for the money that they had to pay. So I want people to be aware of that. Like this deal is is gonna do damage across the board in so many aspects that it's better off that it doesn't happen. Where we all should hope and pray that Paramount has to pay the $1.7 billion. This deal gets null and void, and we can just move on with our lives and let Netflix go by it and let's move on. Um because it it's I think it's in the best interest of everybody that Netflix is the one that ends up with this at the end of the day. Um, we we all know Paramount's influence. We all know where they're coming from and the things that they want to do. The amount of jobs, the amount of people that are gonna be out of work, unable to work for one of the biggest studios in Hollywood at that point. It's just the whole stack of dominoes, uh, on top of the monopoly that they're gonna have on the news media and the coverage and all these other things. So, in the best interest of everybody, we we should all be writing to our senators, writing to our congressmen. The states that already filed the injunctions are are have a great case. Um, my state being one of them, New York being another one. Um I hope they keep applying pressure. I hope they they come correct with all their facts when it comes to in front of a judge, and hopefully we can get this whole deal axed so it doesn't happen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. My state is on some bullshit.
SPEAKER_04Um, so yeah, we'll see what happens. But we did have San Diego Comic-Con this past week, and we got quite a lot to get through real quick. Um so first and foremost, Todd McFarland uh did a whole panel uh like he always does every year at Comic-Con. And this year, I don't know if Todd was drinking or just he just felt really comfortable with the host. Um but Todd basically said he's rejected numerous scripts for Spawn and he still wants writers that'll work with him. He said every time he hands the project off to a writer, he tells them what he wants them to do and then gets the script back, makes it a couple pages through, and doesn't end up it's not his vision. It's not what he wants them to do. Um so he wants a uh a team of writers that will actually work hand in hand with him to write the script specifically, and this way we can get the Jamie Foxx movie made that that's been in, you know, in in production technically, but has not gone anywhere.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_04The interesting thing he also said is is you know that Jamie is signed on, that that Jamie has a contract through Todd and and McFarland itself to be part of this movie. So like he already got the actor and he already he just needs the script and they can go. You know what I mean? So that's pretty much the only thing holding it up at this point. He did say though that he has a completed animated movie with Keith David and Mark Hamill. Uh Keith David is playing Spawn and Mark Hamill is voicing one of the villains. Um, he said it's done and ready to go. Um, he's just kind of shopping it around to see like where it's gonna end up. So there's a possibility we could get that animated spawn movie from McFarland first, but uh his main goal is to get another live action into theaters.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a good thing that he is independent because in my brain I would have thought that would have automatically once a warner because the spawn show is on there right now. But because he's been independent, you can pick wherever he wants it to go. Um and then the other thing too is that like um I just I just find it funny, like for all these years, this is the thing that's been holding him back from having the movie done. And I just feel like holding you from being a part of that situation. It's just uh that's just my whole thing with when I heard it.
SPEAKER_04Because otherwise, because he's Todd's not a part of Hollywood. Todd's Todd's a comic guy, he's a toy guy. Um it's a very different atmosphere. So when you're when you're talking to these companies and you're writing a script, you're gonna you're gonna give them the ideas and you're they're gonna go write the script, and then they're gonna come back to you with the ideas. It's it's not like a handholding process. Those guys are independent contractors that are being paid to write a script, so that's what they're gonna do. Um Todd's just very particular about what he wants and what he wants this this to be. So at that point, that um that becomes a little bit of a a speed bump. That obviously is why this movie has not gone forward or not been pushed through. But I hope it does. I would like to see Jamie get a shot to play Spawn. I I would like to see a live-action spawn movie after all these years. I still like the original one, um, even though it's horrible, but it's still good. It's like one of those movies that it's bad.
SPEAKER_01It's a cult classic to an extent.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah. Um, we did get a landing.
SPEAKER_01He's actually having the role is is cool. Like I I didn't think that that was gonna be the thing. I thought he was just sh shopping around still, but to get the confirmation was was nice.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we um, you know, that that that's been kind of the standing rumor with all the health issues with Jamie Foxx, didn't know if he was gonna be able to, but it seems that, you know, that's all good. Um, we did get a panel for lanterns at Comic-Con. That was pretty much the only DC, you know, thing to come out for DC Studios. Uh, they showed off a trailer for the show. It debuts in a couple weeks. Um, and we kind of found out that the girl who we all anticipated was playing Carol Ferris is actually playing one of the guardians. So she's actually one of the guardians just in human form, which uh I didn't really care for. Um I I would have liked her to play Carol more, but it seems she's gonna be the one that's gonna be mentoring John. It seems like Hal is probably gonna die in the first or second episode of the show, and then kind of have flashbacks to Hal throughout the rest of the show. Uh that that's kind of what it seems. Nathan Filion was shown in the clip. Um, they were all there and they recited the oath together, which I thought was fun. Um and uh if you watch Jordan, that guy that throws his glasses on Instagram or TikTok or any of those places, there's a really funny thing with Aaron Pierre that they they filmed there at Comic-Con. Uh because Jordan is a big Green Lantern fan. He's he's got one of the official rings that he wears all the time. Um, so I thought that was fun. That was a fun little video that they put out filming for Comic-Con. There's a lot of like uh East um beat takes where like they they just lost it and were cracking up hysterical like as they were filming it. So that was that was pretty fun. But yeah, lanterns looks like it's gonna be cool. We we did get our look at Sinestro too, so that was that was cool to see the first look at Sinestro.
SPEAKER_01It's so crazy how I was so like whatever about this show. And then once I saw this trailer, just something about well, there isn't that's everything about it. It's the fact that we actually got to see them doing Green Lantern stuff, and it just got me so hype. I am so ready for this to drop. Uh, also because like I feel like like like what I said before, my lantern is getting the the the shine that I feel like he deserves, knowing that we also we're gonna see him again in Man of Tomorrow, too. So I'm uh I'm ecstatic. He embodies uh John so freaking well, like just off of trailers, it's and hearing what he had to say about playing the character, it it got me hype. I'm I'm so ready for the show. Like, give it to me now.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I I'm I'm still Jerry's still out. I have to wait till I see the show. The the trailer really didn't do much for me. I've been kind of at a consistent basis with this, um, just because of like how everything's going with DC currently. So I'm gonna watch the show, but I I I'm not like, oh my god, I can't wait for the show. It's it's one of those things where it's like, I don't know. I'm still holding judgment until we actually get to see it.
SPEAKER_01I thought it was very interesting that we didn't see James Gunn at the convention, at the panel for this. And I feel like it was a very critical like um idea on his part not to be there. I know he's working on Man of Tomorrow, but I feel like Yeah, I know it's I know it it's it was probably another thing of like just let's get Lantern the press and promo it deserves, because if I'm there, we know they're gonna ask me a million fajillion questions and the number one question.
SPEAKER_04Probably had probably had something to do with it, but he's he's off shooting the movie, and as his wife said, like he's not leaving shooting a movie unless it's something important. So um, yeah, I just think it's kinda kind of a double-edged thing where, like, yeah, he's he's working on Man of Tomorrow. He didn't need to be there. Um, they handled it without him, and that was kind of it. Um, I also do feel like he's probably seeing all the criticism that he's getting and taking a step back. I could very easily see like not being front and center and kind of letting Peter Saffron do that job because that's Peter Saffron's job. Um, to be there, be front and center. Coy was there doing the panel. Um so yeah, it was it was cool to see. Um big things that took place was the Marvel panel. Um we got another trailer of Doomsday, which from what I've heard is a better trailer than the one we got originally. Um they introduced everybody on stage for all of the Avengers and everybody who's part of this movie. And then out of the crowd, uh, Mystery Man came walking into the theater and got a microphone. And that mystery man ended up being no one other, none other than Ryan Reynolds in a Deadpool suit. Um, funny thing, for those of you guys that didn't realize, he was wearing the X-Force suit. But there was something particular about his X-Force suit. The particular color of his X-Force suit is actually titled Gene Gray. Um, so the the color of the suit is is Gene Gray. Um nice little fun Easter egg from Brian Reynolds.
SPEAKER_00That's dope.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, if you go to Home Depot or Lowe's and you bring one of the swash things with you, it's it's called Gene Gray on the on the the swatch.
SPEAKER_00What the heck? I never even thought of that.
SPEAKER_04Oh Ryan Reynolds also spent the entire day in costume walking the floor. He took tons of pictures and videos with everybody that was on the on the show floor, and none of these people had any idea it was Ryan Reynolds walking around. That that's what makes it so great. This is the second time he's done that. He did that originally in the Deadpool suit, but now doing it in this. Um, it was really cool to see. He had like a whole montage that he put up on his social media, which was awesome to see. And uh the interaction was fun. So he asked Paul Rudd uh his first question. Uh Robert Downey Jr. said, you know, why don't we get who's this guy with the swords? Why don't we get him a microphone? And he said, I already have one. Um and he said, My first question is for Paul Rudd. Paul Wy is Thor Crying. And um Paul Rudd responded with, because he's a Wrexham fan, which is Ryan Reynolds' soccer team. Um that was hilarious. And then Deadpool, Deadpool also said, uh, so when's this movie shooting? Like this is a this is an odd way to announce a movie shooting. And Robert Downey Jr. said, Well, the movie's already done. And Ryan Reynolds said, So principal photography's already done. Like, there's no extra ways to to to film anything whatsoever. So you could pretty much gather that Deadpool will be appearing at some point in the film. Um, I kind of already knew he was in the film. Um he he only he has like, I think one scene in the whole movie. It's just a quick cameo from him and Hugh Jackman. You basically you're gonna find out what him and Hugh Jackman are up to during the movie. Um it's just a quick little scene during during Doomsday. That's all they're in it for. But they're that's kind of the the only role they play in the movie, essentially.
SPEAKER_01I heard a rumor, not not that this is real, no, but I a thing that like that Deadpool was gonna be like the new Stan Lee and like the Marvel movies. So when this movie was coming out, and plus what we saw in Deadpool versus Wolverine, I always they like they core they coordinated with each other, so I was like, this might be the beginning of that. But going forward, if that's a true rumor, I I would not mind that. That would be actually pretty dope. Because I think that's what it would help them interview.
SPEAKER_04The the standing rumor is that Ryan Reynolds has been working on Deadpool 4. Um, the idea going around is that it's gonna be an X-Force movie with Deadpool. Um Deadpool 4. Um I would like to see them do that, but I I don't know uh how it's gonna go because I I don't know who they're gonna introduce. It does sound like Hugh Jackman is sticking around even after Secret Wars. That's why they're not gonna recast a Wolverine. Um, it sounds like Hugh Jackman will continue to play Wolverine going forward for at least a little while. Um, but yeah, uh the the big two announcements that they did have. Um, the first one was the one for me that honestly I had been saying on this show, I had been talking about it on Twitter for months, um, that Ryan Gosling should be Ghost Rider. And boy, did they deliver. Kevin Feige brought Ryan Ryan Gosling right out on stage, announced Ghost Rider, and then the double whammy of it all was that Sean Levy is gonna be directing it. So now this is gonna be their second movie back to back. They just filmed Starfighter for Star Wars. Um Ryan Gosling, if you go watch Project Hail Mary, which I did this past week, um he is Johnny, he like he's ghostwriter in that movie, essentially. Like his punk rock aura and like the way he goes about that movie, I feel like he's gonna be perfect. Um, I really didn't need a solo ghost rider movie, though. I would have loved this to be Midnight Suns and Sean Levy directing Midnight Suns with Oscar Isaac and the Werewolf by Nightcast. I feel like that was the play here rather than rather than doing a standalone Ghost Rider movie, but they're gonna fast track this Ghost Rider movie to get it out next year. Um basically, it's gonna start filming soon, and they're gonna have this out in 2028 to be done. So uh yeah, it's it's on the fast track. For me, this was great news. I I really like this casting. Like I really feel like he's perfect for this role. This is something he's wanted to do. Um, also, it's a fun, fun tie-in with his wife. Uh, if you don't know, he's married to Eva Mendez. She was in the original Ghost Rider movie with Nicolas Cage. Um, it's Ryan Gosling's wife. That's um, so that was a cool thing. I don't know if she'll pop back up in in you know his version or not, but that'll be a fun little thing to see. Um, the other announcement that came was Black Panther 3, which we kind of already knew. Denzel Washington is officially gonna be part of this. He wasn't brought out on stage, though, which was an odd move considering he was in San Diego. Um, so I didn't understand that. He had already announced that he was part of this movie a year ago, maybe two years ago now at this point. The the big news was that David Johnson is gonna be the new Black Panther. Um, if you guys don't know who he is, he's an alien Romulus and he's in the long walk. He puts on two great performances in both those movies. And he will be playing T'Challa's son all grown up. So there will be some sort of time jump thing that's gonna happen with him to age him up significantly, and he will be taking the role of Black Panther over. Uh Shuri, who was also part of the announcement, didn't look too thrilled when she was on stage. And and basically, I'm not sure if that spells that she's gonna die in Doomsday. Um, because if I were them, I would kill her off in Doomsday. But let's see if she's around for Black Panther 3 or not.
SPEAKER_01To me, for with her, I felt like that was more so of like like the grief part and like in reality that like we are moving forward now, and this isn't Jadwick anymore. So that's how I felt like it was like a full circle movement. So I I can imagine the energy was a lot for her in that moment. So that that could have been it. Um But also I would like to see her in this, at least in the beginning, just kind of like to show him the ranks and like to to kind of like give like a true like passing of the torch, because she was she's been a part of the series since the beginning.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I could I could give or take her. Like they could they could kill her off and it wouldn't wouldn't matter a a s a one bit to me in in Doomsday. Like I would just be like, okay. Um I feel like Umbaku would probably play the role of like the mentor better for the the the series, especially like with T'Challo Jr., the son. I feel like Umbaku makes the more sense to to be the one to guide him. Um, but they could do whatever they want. I honestly, again, this is not something I really need. I didn't need a Black Panther three. I would have liked to just see him rolled into Secret Wars and call it a day. Um, but the fact that Kugler's coming back to do it, cool. Um, I'm not a fan of Black Panther 2. I don't like the movie. Um, I don't really need a third one, honestly.
SPEAKER_01Um so to see it in that is gonna be really dope. But as y'all see, I love Black Panther, so give me another one. I haven't seen David Johnson's work yet, so I've um my agenda is to come on here and tell you I've watched a long walk because I've heard good things about that.
SPEAKER_04So Yeah, Romulus, Romulus is fantastic. He plays Andy and Romulus, he plays one of the androids, and he does a fantastic job. And he's supposed to come back for the second one, but as we talked about on the show, the second one's being held up in production currently because they don't have a director. So but yeah, he's a good actor. Uh both both performances in both those movies are fantastic. Um, so I'm cool with that. I have said from the beginning they should have recast it to Chala from the jump. Um, so I'm glad that they finally made the, you know, pulled the trigger and are and are gonna move forward. Um I again, I both of these announcements, while I'm happy for both the announcements, I could have done without the solo movies. Um for me, this this would have worked better. Just, hey, David Johnson's the new Black Panther in Secret Wars. Cool. Ryan Gosling's gonna play Ghost Rider in Secret Wars, or we're gonna do a Midnight Suns, much better. Um I think the Sean Levy thing will be cool. I think they're gonna kill it. Um obviously, this goes to show what they think of Starfighter. Um, if they have that much faith in the two of them together again, they must think they have a a top Star Wars movie with Starfighter, which has me happy about that. It's like, all right, well, if they're gonna run them back again for a second movie, that means Starfighter has to be that good. Um, or or they wouldn't have done this. So we'll see what happens. I'm here for it. Um, Ghost Rider's the one for me. Like, I'm I'm more excited about Ghost Rider than I am for Doomsday. Um, again, all the stuff from Doomsday just kind of seems like a repetitive tread of like, hey, we're gonna release it in Infinity Vision, this new thing. And shout out to Ice. I heard Ice talking about it on the Joe Button podcast um this past week. And Ice was like, I don't even know what Infinity Vision is. Ice, it's nothing. There's no, there's no real infinity. Division. Infinity Vision does not mean anything. Um, it's basically a regular theater that you're going to go into that has nothing different to it. They're just going to tweak some audio and tell you that it's Infinity Vision certified. So yeah, that that's the whole scam of this. They have no IMAX theater, so they're trying to do something different and make people feel like, oh, uh, come see it in this. And it's nothing. It means absolutely nothing.
SPEAKER_01Um, the with the Ghost Rider thing, I'm I'm excited because I feel like this will be the introduction to Midnight Suns. Um, it's like like Kevin Foggy says also that like he feels like so bad about um not being able to get Blade to work. So hearing him say that was was telling in one one way, but also I just feel like then you announced this. I just feel like this is the layup for that whole thing that we were supposed to get with Midnight Sons, anyways.
SPEAKER_04Um Blade is Blade is dead in the water, officially. It's not happening.
SPEAKER_01I thought it was still like in limbo, but not dead.
SPEAKER_04No, Blade is dead. That movie is dead. That is a door now, and that's why Kevin Foggy was regretting and saying what he said. Because the movie's dead, it's not moving forward. Um so that's why they pivoted to Ghost Rider. They already have Ryan Gosling, they already have Sean Levy, boom, easy layup, easy pivot. Not just having I think at this point it's gonna be Wesley Snipes. If you're gonna see Blade in Secret Wars or you're gonna see Blade in a Midnight Suns, I don't think it's gonna be McCurshaw Ali. I think it's gonna be Wesley Snipes. I think they realize that, that the demand for him in Wolverine and Deadpool was and the the response for him was tremendous. Hence why they brought Channing Tatum back for another movie. Like Channing Tatum wasn't supposed to still play Gambit. That was just because people liked him and they wanted him back. Um I feel like that's gonna be the same thing with this. I feel like even if they move forward with Midnight Suns, it's probably not gonna be McCurshaw Ali. It'll be anchored by Ryan Gosling with Oscar Isaac and Wesley Snipes. And then you have the Midnight, uh, you have the Werewolf by Night cast, which is Man Thing, Werewolf by Night, and Elsa Bloodstone. There's your Midnight Suns right there. The story I would have done, hypothetically, which I've talked about on Twitter, I've talked about it on my channel. I would have liked to see them do while Secret Wars is going on, you have Mephisto take over Las Vegas and do that story from the comic books. And you almost have while the Avengers are doing this, the Midnight Suns assemble over here on the West Coast to take on Mephisto. And simultaneously, while that's going on, you have this going on, and this new group of heroes that came together that are all the fucking monsters and all the hideous people.
SPEAKER_01Um is Ryan Goslin gonna be uh Johnny Blaze? Because I think Kevin said he said he's gonna announce it when he wants to.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they didn't announce whether he's gonna be Johnny or Danny Ketch. I would assume he's probably gonna be Danny. He looks a little bit more like Danny. Um, plus we we've never gotten Danny. It also still leaves the door open for Nicolas Cage to appear as Johnny if they want to do that. So I feel like that's probably the better route. Um, a lot of people were still speculating that the possibility that we that he could be Robbie, because Ryan Gosling is Latino, for those of you guys that don't know. Um I don't think they're gonna go with him being Robbie Reyes. I just I don't. I think they're gonna go Danny catch. Uh that makes the most sense to me. But we'll see what happens. Especially because, like I said, they could leave the door open for Nicolas Cage to come back and and be his mentor, be the whisperer, you know, and kind of kind of play that role in the movie if they wanted to.
SPEAKER_01So I would have seen him being Danny if anything.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and and Danny's got a cool story, so like it it works. Plus, like I feel like if he's Robbie, um, it's a little too close to his stunt man uh movie that he did with Emily Blunt, and it it's kind of the same thing of drive or whatever it's called. So yeah, I I feel like that would be a little too close to call. So yeah, putting Ryan Reynolds as Danny probably makes the most sense at this point. But that was pretty much it from the the Marvel panel. Uh Kevin Feige did say that Nova's gonna be a movie, which again, I don't give a shit about a Nova movie. Um I'm pretty sure that kid from Stranger Things is gonna end up playing Nova. Um, who cares? Do do we really need a Nova movie? Absolutely not. Um yeah, so good for the kid from Stranger Things, but again, I I don't need these three movies. Like I could have done with these just being rolled into something else, and and that that's that. I'm I'm very happy about Gosling, but again, I I didn't really need a solo Ghost Rider movie.
SPEAKER_01I just feel like the if with the Nova thing, like we should have gotten that like um back when the hype for it was at its peak, probably after Iron Man 3, and that would have been better. So like adding it now is just it's just extra credit. Like it's just whatever.
SPEAKER_04It's it's useless. It's it's nothing. They'll they'll probably make him have some role in secret wars for whatever reason, but it's really not needed. It should be just be a Disney Plus thing or or fucking some shit along that. Call it any.
SPEAKER_02That would be cool.
SPEAKER_04And and they didn't show anything from Vision Quest because apparently the plan is all the TV stuff will be safe for D23. So this whole panel was no Marvel television whatsoever. That'll all be safe for D23 in September. Um, and yeah, so we'll get the Vision Quest stuff there, we'll get X-Men 97 some more stuff from that. Um Yeah, and by that point, X-Men 97 will be completely wrapped for this season, so they can go right ahead and tell us like what's gonna happen for season three.
SPEAKER_01With the Vision Quest stuff, I did see that they released it some Funko's for them. So you got to see Ultron and Vision in their Funko version of how they'll be in the show. So that'd be pretty good.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, Bill Spader's coming back. Um, I don't give a shit about Vision, I don't care about the show. Um, but I'm here for Bill Spader. Uh Bill Spader's a fantastic actor, and uh yeah. Regardless of how he's gonna portray it, if he's gonna be a human form of Ultron or whatever the case may be, um, yeah, I am definitely looking forward to seeing his performance. I have a feeling it's gonna tie into Doomsday because at the San Diego Comic-Con they showed off the Lavarian Witch costumes and they changed them out throughout the entire time that they were there. There's multiple ones. There's a purple one, there's a gold one, there's a green one. Um I can't spoil. I already know who the witches are in the movie. Um so yeah, use your common sense to think about magic people and who's not part of the witch.
SPEAKER_01Well, they've been talking about it too. I like people have been talking about it online.
SPEAKER_04I know for a fact of who's who's the witches and who's the so I don't wanna spoil it. That's the whole thing of why I'm not talking about it. Um but you can kind of gather the magic people in the Marvel universe, who was not announced for this movie, and put two and two together as to who those people are probably gonna be revealed as. Um, but that'll do it for the Marvel panel. Really wasn't much. Um if you're hyped for Doomsday, I guess maybe this did it for you. This did nothing for me, this whole Marvel panel. I just kind of was like, all right, cool, Gosling's Ghost Rider, other than that, David Johnson's Black Panther, cool, I'm here for it. But didn't didn't move my hype. The Doomsday stuff, listening to them talk and yap about this movie did nothing for me. Robert Downey Jr. trying to do everything to tell people how much of a great performance he put on for this does nothing for me. Um, the only person who keeps moving me about this movie is Chris Evans, unfortunately. And anytime he talks about it, anytime he talks about coming back, um, he's really the only storyline I care about from this movie, in all honesty. And and that's kind of sad. The Fantastic Four, I don't give a shit about. Uh the Wakanda stuff, I don't give a shit about. So yeah, the Steve stuff for me is probably gonna be the only thing that like I'm gonna care about in this movie. Um, everything else, like like I said, I I kind of already know what's gonna happen and what the layout for the movie is.
SPEAKER_01Because you mentioned Cap, um Haley uh Altwall said that she's gonna be in this as um, yeah, we knew that Peggy. So I'm I'm I don't know which version she's gonna do, but I thought that was interesting to hear that.
SPEAKER_04She's not Captain Carter, she's Peggy Carter. She's the one Cap went back to at the end. We saw this in the in the teaser. We saw Steve at the house with the baby. Like we knew that she was gonna be part of that. Steve didn't just have the baby on his own. No, they didn't show her because they didn't want to reveal that she's in the movie. But it you you could put two and two together when you see Steve with a baby that, like, yeah, Helly Atwell's in it. That's where he went. That was their house. Like, you're gonna see that probably in the endgame Encore, whatever the fuck they're calling it. So, yeah. And and by the way, adding a new title to that discredits them from getting any more profits on the original Endgame. So, not sure if they were aware of that or not, but now they can't break the record for the all-time thing because adding that other title to Endgame disqualifies that. It's a whole new movie, technically, now at this point. So, whatever they think they're gonna do for the box office for that, I don't fucking know. I'm not going out to the theater to watch Endgame again. I'll wait till it hits Disney Plus and watch it just to see the couple scenes that are different. I'm sure those scenes will be out on the internet and you can watch them on Twitter and not waste your time going to watch Endgame in a movie theater again. Um, but yeah, that does nothing for me again with the hype of this. Like my hype is at the same decimal pace for this. I'm so much more hype for Dune 2 or Dean 3. Uh, the more and more I I watch the panel of them at Comic-Con, the hearing Dennis Deli uh Denny Villan Villanueva talk about this movie, Dune 3 has me super hyped. I can't wait to watch this movie. Um, especially knowing Children of Dune and knowing how that's gonna wrap up. Yeah, they got my money that day. I'm going to see Dune. Uh I Doomsday.
SPEAKER_01I'm hyped for both.
SPEAKER_04I don't really give a shit about uh comics news. We we did get some announcements. So from Marvel, really not shit outside of the midnight stuff that we already knew was coming. Um, the other big announcement is that Christopher Yost is coming back to write Maximum X-Men. Um, they're bringing Storm back to the X-Men team, which she's been in her own solo book. She's been part of the Avengers. Now Storm and Wolverine are gonna be leading a new X-Men team that consists of Firestar and Justice, which is gonna be interesting. Um, I love that Firestar is coming back. At first, when I saw the cover of this, I really thought it was gonna be Jerry uh Duggan writing this because that's kind of been his character now for the last couple runs. So the fact that Christopher Yost is coming back is is a big deal. If you don't know who Christopher Yost is, him and his partner actually created X-Men Evolution. They were the writers of that show, um, which was is still a big fan favorite television show. Uh, they did Uncanny X-Force, they did uh a whole bunch of slew of comics. They're the ones who actually brought X-23 into the comics because they were the ones that created her. So to see that Yasta's coming back is a big deal for Marvel. Um this X-Men team that he's got assembled for this looks cool. Again, though, the X-Men kind of the whole brand as a whole right now is is kind of just in a holding pattern. Um, so I'm not sure if he's gonna be able to come in and do what he wants to do, but having this team of mixed-matched characters kind of allows him to play around, I think, a little bit more in the sandbox. From DC, we got a ton of announcements. Uh Shadows of the Bat is announced with Dennis Camp coming over from Marvel. He's been the big writer on the ultimates. He's coming over to do Shadow of the Bat, a new Batman book. We're getting a demon book uh for the demon entry in. Uh it wasn't announced. Who's writing that? Jonah Hex is getting a new title. Um, and it's actually called Jonah Hex. It's not called All-Star Western, like the previous iterations have been. Uh, the writer for that was not announced. Doom Patrol is getting a new title that they're coming back. No writer announced. They were shown in the video. Uh Teen Titans with Red Hood is finally coming out. Uh, I thought this book got scrapped because it was not shown on any of the DC solicits for the year. This book was already supposed to be out a while ago. It sounds like Kyle Higgins went back and had to redo his whole pitch and kind of come up with a whole new idea because he caught a lot of backlash the last time he spoke about this book. So I hope whatever they have planned for Jason is something decent. Kyle did say that Jason's only gonna be part of this book for a little while, and they did tease that something's coming for Red Hood down the line. So I'm assuming we're gonna get an announcement of a new Red Hood title at some point. Um, I just don't know who's gonna be behind that. Legion of Superheroes is coming back with Josh Williamson, spinning out of what's going on with Superman and uh the absolute universe. So it only makes sense that Josh Williamson is the one writing that, considering he's been playing with them so much in Superman already. Um I'm sure Superboy Prime is probably gonna be part of this book. It just wasn't announced yet. Um we know already that the Superman title is gonna be shifting from Prime back to Clark at some point. So my guess would be Prime probably gets a spot in this Legion of Superheroes lineup, which would be fine with me. I do want to see Josh, though, continue to write Prime because that's been a phenomenal book. Uh now to respond to some of the backlash from losers like Blurred Without Fear and some of those channels that just are horrendous people. Um Vixen is being written by Stephanie Williams. So your whole boycott can go fuck off. It didn't do anything anyway, but this whole fake outrage and fake outcry did absolutely nothing because these books were already in the can. So all you people that wanted to boycott DC and there's no black creators, there's no black characters, you had them in the books already. Um DC was already planning on it. The other big announcement was static, uh, written by Cody Ziegler. So the two things everyone was clamoring for, DC already had on the back burner. You just had to wait and be patient. Um sometimes these the fake internet outrage gets a lot of clickbait, but doesn't actually do shit. And the people who are behind that boycott didn't do shit. Um, so I'm very happy for Cody Ziggler to write static. That's gonna be fucking awesome. Um, I will definitely be in on that. Vixen, I don't care about. I'm sorry. Um, but you got a great writer in Stephanie Williams writing it. So it should be a good book, regardless. Um, a lot of these announcements I'm not really keen on for DC. Like it really wasn't anything that moved me. The static announcement was the really the only thing that, like, all right, cool. I'm I'm here for static to get a solo book. Um, he did just uh get announced for Titans. Um, so it'll be a nice little crossover between the two books, pretty much.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was hyped for that announcement because uh I love Cody what he did on with Miles, and I was no although I don't really know too much about Vixen either, but with Stephanie Williams on that, I'm definitely all in on that. So these books from DC look really dope. Um first one you mentioned, um, was it Bat something you said, right?
SPEAKER_04Shadow of the Bat with Dennis Camp.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, um I think Stefan Green is on the on the art with one of those, or at least a variant, and I can't wait to see that. Um I'm hyped for static.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, uh again, this next level stuff is is just continuing on, and they they tease that there's more, like before the end of the year, that they have more announcements. So, like again, if if your favorite character or your favorite artist or writer is not doing a book currently, like crying on the internet isn't what's gonna get you a book because chances are they have something already in the works. Um, you just have to be patient and give it time for it to roll out. Um, this static thing was already planned. It's been in the works for, I want to say almost a year now. Um, but they there's a problem with the rights. I want to say there's a problem with Vixen's rights as well, where she's technically a milestone character. So, like, that's what these people gotta understand is there's a rights issue going on between because DC doesn't actually own the rights to the characters. It's a deal worked out through milestone. Um, so even though they bought milestone, the original creators of of the characters still have a say. So it it's it's all logistics and it's gotta be worked out. So they they can't just willy-nilly announce stuff and do whatever they want with some of these characters. That's not how it works. Um so yeah, I'm um DC was the only one who really had any kind of big things announced. Outside of that, there there wasn't really much comic news, which was kind of surprising. Usually there's a lot more announcements for new titles. Um, but Marvel seems to be focusing heavily on midnight, and that's kind of where they're they're they're putting their chips right now to try to combat the absolute universe. But yeah, and shout out to Scott Snyder. I saw Scott, Scott, um, they had to basically give out tickets for the Scott Snyder signing because the lines were so long. So they basically at the beginning of the day were handing out raffle tickets, and then once the tickets ran out, that that was it. So Scott was busy all weekend, so was Dragata, um, signing tons and tons of absolute Batman, I'm sure. So shout out to them.
SPEAKER_01Shout out.
SPEAKER_04What do you do you have anything for comics of the week this week?
SPEAKER_01This is another weak week for me. Um, I there was nothing that I was interested in, so I'm no, nothing.
SPEAKER_04I had a tremendous stack of books that I've been trying to work my way through. But I'm gonna spotlight Friend of the Show, Teeny Howard, her new book, Sicko, number one, just came out this past week. And uh for those of you guys that don't know Teeny, she's a phenomenal writer, um, mostly known for Gotham City Sirens that she's been writing for DC. She's been a writer at X-Men for quite some time. She's friends with Connor, uh, who did Mimi Green. So it's only right that we talk about Sicko. Uh, this was a great first issue. I really loved it. Um, I always try to pick up Teeny's work. Uh I I have a lot of her omnibuses. I have some of her work with Punchline. I have all her X-Men stuff, pretty much. So I always like her work. So to see her do like her own book, I had to give it a shot. And it's actually pretty cool. The artwork is phenomenal. Umilikar Pinha is the is the artist. Um, and this book just looks fucking phenomenal. So really cool concept. Uh again, kind of like a body horror, trippy kind of thing about this girl who's always sick. And it it it kind of unravels as the book goes on, which is pretty fucking cool. Um, so yeah, I definitely recommend picking it up. My shop only had one copy available. So I was literally the only person who got the book. Um a lot of things with these independents sometimes, uh, especially this is ignition press. It's not like Dark Horse or one of the bigger independents. So most shops do only order like a couple copies of it. So it might be hard to track down. Um, but I think Teeny does have it available from her store. So if you're looking for it, you can go pick it up from from her shop, I believe. Uh did you have anything that you watched this week?
SPEAKER_01So what has I been watching this week? Um not particularly. Um I've been on a binge with Spider-Man, like I said last week. Um I rewatched Spider-Man um No Way Home last last night, and I rewatched uh Spider-Man Toby McGuire, number one, and it's just so funny, like how much of MJ. She's so such a toxic woman, like in every way. Like it's just so crazy. Even down to the animated series, it made me think about her and her characters.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't even know if I'm gonna go watch it, but we'll see. Um, I'm kind of on the fence. Nothing at Comic-Con really did it for me with the trailer. I'm still just kind of like, all right, we'll we'll get around to it. Um, I did watch quite a bit. I watched Project Hail Mary, I watched Mortal Kombat 2, I watched Masters of the Universe, um Master Master of the Universe. I can't highly recommend going to watch Masters of the Universe again on Prime. Uh it's it's free if you're a Prime subscriber. Go run it back. Watching it the second time, I loved it. Uh, I actually watched it a third time too. I ran it back again after I watched it. So go check out Motu. It's the number one movie on Prime right now. Um, showing that Amazon's doing the right thing by coming back and making the sequel. I loved it. I thought it was fantastic watching it a second time. Um, Mortal Kombat 2 was another one. I did not go see it in theaters. So to see it on HBO Max was phenomenal. I loved it from start to finish. Um, I ran that back a second time and watched it again. So both those movies I highly recommend going to check out. Project Hell Mary was another great one. I caught that last week. Um, um, more so because I I loved Gosling's performance in it, and that's why like I felt he would be a perfect ghostwriter. So that coincide. Can't recommend going to watch Mortal Kombat 2. Like, that was the best Mortal Kombat movie they've ever done. Um, it was way better than the first one, and killing Cole off the way they killed him off was fantastic. Thank you for doing that, whoever wrote this. Um, but yeah, I'm I'm here for the next one. I can't wait. Uh Street Fighters rolling around. We got uh figures actually revealed for Street Fighter from Hasbro. Uh, there were quite a lot of announcements with Marvel Legends. Uh Todd basically showing off the last of his DC stuff before the license change over to Mattel. NECA and companies that learn that Mattel will be enacting the master license for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. So companies like NECA and Playmates will no longer be able to make Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toys. So all the stuff that they had planned is kind of wrapped up at the end of this year. And going into next year, the landscape for the toy market is gonna be significantly different. Mattel has a lot of rights. They're gonna have the DC master license, they're gonna have the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license on top of the Motu license, on top of the Demon Hunter's license and the Barbie license, and all of this stuff that they already accumulated. So gonna be a lot to shuffle around and see like what's gonna happen with the toy market and action figures and all of that cool stuff.
SPEAKER_01You mentioned Mattel, and we didn't talk about this, but uh they released that they're doing a matchbox uh movie with John Cena. Yeah, with John Cena.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they showed off the trailer for that, and uh a lot of people thought it looked like Battleship all over again. So we'll we'll see what happens. But yeah. Um, other than that, that'll pretty much wrap up our coverage of San Diego Comic-Con and what we got for this week. Thank you again for checking out another episode of Talking Soups. If you made it this far, please make sure to like, comment, subscribe, give us a review, and uh give us a follow. And till then, we'll see you next week.
